Ariana DeBose and Peter Dinklage added to Lear Rex ensemble

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana DeBose, Rachel Brosnahan and Peter Dinklage are among a host of stars to have been cast in ‘Lear Rex’.
The trio will join Al Pacino and Jessica Chastain in a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’.
Other actors added to the ensemble cast include LaKeith Stanfield, Chris Messina, Ted Levine, Danny Huston, Matthew Jacobs, Rhys Coiro and Stephen Dorff.
The movie is being written and directed by Bernard Rose with Barry Navidi producing in his fifth collaboration with Pacino. Principal photography is due to begin later this month in Los Angeles.
‘Lear Rex’ follows an ageing King Lear (Pacino) as he divides his land between his three daughters in an attempt to stop future conflict.
However, he rejects the young daughter who loves him and instead places his trust in her malevolent sisters – who take away his power and leave him condemned to a wasteland of horror and insanity.
Rose said: “It is enormously exciting to get the opportunity to work with this extraordinary cast that Al, Barry and Sharon (Howard-Field, casting director) have put together to tackle this radical, but accessible adaptation of Shakespeare’s greatest play.”
Navidi said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with Bernard Rose. His artistic vision, combined with a talented ensemble cast of players led by Al Pacino, promises to take us on a remarkable and unforgettable cinematic experience.
“We are merging the worlds of Shakespeare and Hollywood. This marks the commencement of an exciting new chapter, one that Al has poured his heart and soul into. It is a privilege for me to join forces with my dear friend once more, and to contribute to his enduring legacy.”

Danny Ramirez cast in Pursuit of Touch

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Ramirez is to star in ‘Pursuit of Touch’.
The 31-year-old actor is to play the lead role in the picture that he has also written and will produce with ‘Slave Play’ creator Jeremy O. Harris.
Ramirez will portray a reclusive Afghanistan War veteran who finds out that his favourite cam girl is caught up in a dangerous conspiracy and sets out to rescue her.
What begins as a bizarre man-on-a-mission tale develops into a moving story of human connection in a digital world.
The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ actor will produce with Niv Gafny and Tom Culliver through their Pinstripes banner alongside Jeremy and Josh Godfrey for their bb2 company.
No director is on board at present.
Meanwhile, Ramirez was recently cast opposite Joaquin Phoenix in a detective movie from director Todd Haynes.
The picture has been penned by Haynes together with Phoenix and Jon Raymond.
Details regarding the plot are scarce, but the flick is said to follow two men – one of whom is played by Phoenix – who are intense lovers and leave California for Mexico.
Haynes’ regular collaborator Christine Vachon is producing alongside Pam Koffler.
Danny starred as Lieutenant Mickey ‘Fanboy’ Garcia in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and explained that working with Tom Cruise has helped him develop in all facets of the film industry.
He said: “One of the biggest blessings of being in elite circles with the most brilliant minds in storytelling, is that you’re then endowed with all this knowledge that this small little group has, and they pass it down.
“So someone like Tom (Cruise), he is so accessible. If I have a pitch deck, I send it to him, he’s the first one to send me notes. Having that access then becomes a responsibility.
“My next step as a filmmaker is to be able to take that same knowledge that I’m learning and being able to pass it down, because experience is sometimes everything.”

Barney Walsh to star in hard-hitting sexual abuse storyline in ‘Casualty’

OHMYGOSSIP — Barney Walsh will be at the centre of a storyline about male sexual abuse in ‘Casualty’.
The 26-year-old actor, who has played nurse Cameron Mickelthwaite on the BBC show since last year, is set to explore his character’s traumatic past after childhood friend Bobby arrives at Holby City Hospital accusing new board member Jamie Cleveland (played by Ryan Hawley) of assaulting him as a child – bringing up dark memories of the abuse the nurse suffered as a teenager.
Barney said: “Research shows that one in six men are survivors of sexual abuse, so this is a very important story for us to tell. This storyline will see Cam having to confront the demons of his past, something he has desperately tried to avoid for many years and face up to the realisation that he experienced abuse.
“We want to help anyone who might be affected by abuse, and to highlight that survivors of abuse are not alone, there is always help and support available to them. It’s been a privilege to bring this storyline to screens.”
‘Casualty’ series producer Liza Melody added: “Viewers have been aware that Cam’s past has come back to haunt him with the arrival of Bobby and Jamie at Holby, but now the audience will discover just why Cam has been struggling so much. We hope this storyline will help to challenge the perceptions, the stigma, and the shame experienced by male survivors.”
The series of episodes tackling the abuse storyline, which are titled ‘Storm Damage’, will begin with Cameron opening up to Clinical Lead Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) about the abuse he suffered as a teenager at the hands of Jamie.
‘Casualty’ producers brought on the charities SurvivorsUK and We Are Survivors in an effort to ensure the upcoming storyline was handled considerately.
We Are Survivors founder and Chief Executive Officer Duncan Craig – who worked with the writing team on the scripts for the episodes – said he was “genuinely so proud” of Barney and the production for having the courage to run a storyline focusing on male victims of abuse.
He added: “I was so pleased to be contacted by the BBC again and this time to be asked by ‘Casualty’ to support the development of this storyline.
“I am genuinely so proud of Barney, and the team for being brave enough to highlight the silence of male victims and the need for male survivors’ stories to be heard.
“We know that when drama tells stories of male survivors, more people call helplines, contact us for support, and finally find a space to breathe.”

Rosie Jones ‘so mad and so angry’ as a child as she could never find books with disabled characters

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosie Jones was “so mad and so angry” as a child as she could never find disabled characters in the books she was reading.
The 34-year-old comedian, who is openly gay and has cerebral palsy, added she was driven to write her children’s novel ‘Moving On Up!’ as she wanted youngsters to have something that made them feel they could embrace their “individuality”.
She told the Metro: “I adored reading. I read everything but I never saw a character with a disability and that made me so sad and so angry because people didn’t think my story was worth telling.”
The comic also stressed she wrote the book with her 10-year-old self in mind as she would have done “anything to be just one of the crowd” when she was young, instead of accepting what made her unique.
She added: “The chapter I needed growing up was about feeling different, because especially when you’re a child it feels like the one thing you need to do is fit in and not be the odd one out.
“For me, being disabled and secretly having feelings for other girls and wondering if I was gay was terrifying. I would have done anything to be just one of the crowd.
“But writing a chapter about owning your difference, owning your individuality – because that will make you brilliant and wonderful and a person that you were always meant to be – is incredible.
“So if I’d had a chapter like that when I was little, it really would have changed how I thought about myself for the better.”
Rosie also revealed she doesn’t want to appear on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because she thinks her disability would mean she wouldn’t be “treated as an equal”.
She said: “I watch ‘Strictly’ every year and it really feels like a staple of our society, and (the dancers) have become more diverse, but I do think in terms of disability, there’s still a disparity.
“I can’t imagine being part of that, and being treated like an equal to all the other dancers, because even though I’ve got rhythm – I can dance, I can bust some moves — in terms of technicality, you’ve got to admit that my body cannot physically do the same as a non-disabled person’s body, and I wouldn’t want the judges to patronise me.”

Hannah Waddingham to narrate BBC’s flagship Christmas Day animation

OHMYGOSSIP — Hannah Waddingham will narrate the BBC’s flagship Christmas Day animation.
The ‘Ted Lasso’ actress, 50, famed for playing Rebecca Welton in the comedy show, has inked a deal to voice a festive adaptation of the ‘Tiddler’ rhyming picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, which tells of a tiny grey fish who loses its bearings in the ocean.
Hannah said: “Voicing the narrator for this Christmas special has been a real joy to record.
“‘Tiddler’ is the tale of the storyteller in all of us, and helps children understand what it’s like to be a small fish in a very big pond.
“I have loved reading the books by Julia and Axel to my daughter over the years and it’s so lovely to get to bring one of them to screen.”
Other characters in the film will be voiced by ‘Gavin and Stacey’ actor Rob Brydon, 59, comic Jayde Adams, 39, and 33-year-old ‘Ghosts’ actress Lolly Adefope.
Hannah is also set to star in a third ‘Hocus Pocus’ film, said to be still in its story development phase.
Disney confirmed in June 2023 another installment in the witch series was in development and screenwriter Jen D’Angelo, 36, has confirmed the plot is still being worked out.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “We’re still in the story phase – we’re still working on it.
“We’ve been working on some ideas. It’s been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore.
“We’ve only scratched the surface of Hannah Waddingham’s mother witch.”
Emmy-winning Hannah made her ‘Hocus Pocus’ debut in the second installment of the film franchise, released in 2022 on Disney+, in which she played Mother Witch, responsible for gifting a spell book to the series’ young Sanderson sisters.
It’s expected Bette Midler, 78, Sarah Jessica Parker, 59, and Kathy Najimy, 67, will also be approached to feature in ‘Hocus Pocus 3’.

Linda Robson snubbed deal to compete on ‘Dancing on Ice’

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Robson snubbed a deal to compete on ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The ‘Loose Women’ regular, 66, who has recently been opening up about how she has found a new lease of life after battling alcoholism and severe depression during her six-decade acting and presenting career, was offered a big-money contract to appear on the next series of the show in 2025.
But the mother-of-three was quoted in the Daily Star saying her children talked her out of signing up – adding: “I’ve just been asked to do ‘Dancing on Ice’, but I said no. My kids wouldn’t let me do it.
“They said, ‘No mum, you’re 66, you can’t do it’.”
Linda also admitted she is glad her kids stopped her as she fears she would have ended up cracking bones on the ice rink.
She went on: “They’re right to say I shouldn’t do it. I can’t dance and I can’t ice skate either.
“I would end up breaking my leg. Skating is dangerous!
“Joe Swash won it even though he’s got two left feet, but he did improve and the public love him.”
Linda has racked up other reality show appearances, with stints on ‘Celebs on the Farm’ and ‘Celebrity Coach Trip’.
She added: “Now I’m 66 I’ve been trying things I’ve never done before.
“I’m trying not to turn something down because it’s different.”
Her new lease of life is a huge change from her depression battle.
She said in May she had to stop recording the audiobook of her autobiography when a segment about her being put on suicide watch made her weep.
Linda was quoted in the Daily Mirror saying: “The depression and the suicide watch I was on was really hard, especially when I recorded the audio.
“I had to stop because I was crying my eyes out. They told me to go and sit down and have a nice cup of tea and then come back afterwards and I did.”
Linda has now beaten the blues and is four years sober, but was afflicted with depression in 2018 when she had a breakdown and went to rehab.

‘They overthink it’: Vince Vaughn blames Hollywood executives for comedy film decline

OHMYGOSSIP — Vince Vaughn has questioned Hollywood bosses for “overthinking” things when it comes to developing comedy films.
The 54-year-old star has previously featured in humorous flicks such as ‘Old School’ and ‘Wedding Crashers’ but thinks executives are too frightened to take risks on those types of pictures in the modern climate.
Speaking on Hot Ones, Vince said: “They (execs) just overthink it. And it’s like, it’s crazy, you get these rules, like, if you did geometry, and you said 87 degrees was a right angle, then all your answers are messed up, instead of 90 degrees. So there became some idea or concept, like, they would say something like, ‘You have to have an IP.'”
Vince feels that movie bosses are too reliant on IP when it comes to greenlighting projects – citing the 2012 box office flop ‘Battleship’ as something that got made because it was from a recognisable board game.
The ‘Dodgeball’ star said: “The people in charge don’t want to get fired more so than they’re looking to do something great, so they want to kind of follow a set of rules that somehow get set in stone, they don’t really translate.
“But as long as they follow them, they’re not going to lose their job because they can say, ‘Well, look I made a movie off the board game ‘Payday’ so even though the movie didn’t work, you can’t let me go, right?'”
Despite this, Vince is confident that the comedy genre will go through a revival at the cinema.
He said: “People want to laugh, people want to look at stuff that feels a little bit like it’s, you know, dangerous or pushing the envelope.
“I think you’re going to see more of it in the film space sooner than later, would be my guess.”

Matt Damon is grateful to still be making movies with the Affleck brothers

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Damon feels “really lucky” to still be making films with the Affleck brothers.
The 53-year-old actor features alongside Casey Affleck in the heist comedy ‘The Instigators’ – which has been produced by Ben Affleck – and is grateful that their childhood friendship has been preserved in Hollywood.
Matt told The Hollywood Reporter at the picture’s New York premiere on Wednesday (31.07.24): “I think just 43 years into this friendship, it’s just the joy of doing what we love, but being able to do it together. It just doesn’t get any better than that.
“I feel really lucky to be able to still be making movies at this level with the kind of people that I get to work with. But when some of them are the people that have been my closest and dearest friends for over four decades, it’s a really special thing.”
Damon explained that he took comfort from filming the Apple TV+ project in the “familiar” surroundings of Boston, the city in which he and the Affleck siblings grew up.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ actor said: “It feels really familiar to go home. The sensibility there, the sense of humour is something that just comes naturally to us. And it’s just a really comfortable place, it feels like going home every time.”
Doug Liman directs ‘The Instigators’ – over two decades after first working with Damon on ‘The Bourne Identity’ – and reflected on how the star has changed over the years.
He said: “Even though 20 years had elapsed, it felt like it was yesterday that Matt and I were just starting to work together.
“So it’s amazing in a way how little has changed, especially because Matt and I are still committed to doing something that’s original and that fits our sensibilities and not conforms to studio sensibilities – what’s amazing about Apple was how supportive they were of us.”
Liman continued: “There are other moments on the making of ‘The Instigators’ where I’d look at Matt and go, ‘Oh my God, he has matured so much’ – in terms of helping me as a director do my best work and understanding how he as an actor could help me.”

Matt Dillon retains a ‘bond’ with former co-stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Dillon shares a close “bond” with his ‘Outsiders’ co-stars.
The 60-year-old actor starred in the coming-of-age crime drama alongside the likes of Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, and Diane Lane, and Matt has admitted that he remains close to a lot of his former co-stars.
The actor told Total Film magazine: “I am always happy to see Ralph Macchio, Tom Cruise and C. Thomas Howell; I felt I developed a bond with the actors who came on that journey with me.”
Matt still has fond memories of shooting the movie, likening it to “being in college”.
He said: “I remember there were high jinks in the hotel we were staying in but I was not the instigator. You get a bunch of young guys in their late teens and early 20s and of course it’s going to be like being in college.”
The 1983 movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and Matt relished working with the legendary filmmaker.
The actor shared: “It was great to work with him on ‘The Outsiders’, but I got much closer to him on ‘Rumble Fish’.
“Looking back, he was just so filled with life, enthusiasm and energy. Francis is a brilliant visual filmmaker but he’s really in love with the people who populate his films. He has such a great affection for the characters in his stories.”
Meanwhile, Matt previously revealed that he’s always tried to follow his “own path” in the movie business.
The veteran actor told Parade magazine: “I don’t know how else to do it. l only know how to be true to myself.
“I mean, there are times when I wish I were more ambitious about this or that. But you have to follow your own path. It’s what I aspire to do.”

Hayley Mills thought her acting career was over before Trap

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayley Mills didn’t think she would star in a film ever again.
The 78-year-old ‘Parent Trap’ star was sure her acting days were behind her but when M. Night Shyamalan asked her to appear in his latest thriller ‘Trap’, she couldn’t say no.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “It was lovely to be on a movie set again. There’s more space, you can take deeper breaths… And certainly, on a movie of Night’s, you don’t rush.
“[‘Trap’] came completely unexpected, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever make another movie — I wasn’t shedding any tears. People often look at you and think, ‘This is a Disney actress, isn’t it?’ It’s a part I would have never expected to be considered for.
“He’s the complete movie maker, from the beginning, middle, and end,” . He understands the characters so very well. He knows their thought process. If you’re not thinking what he thinks your character should be thinking, he spots it instantly.”
“It’s a movie that’s written, directed and funded by one man. It’s his movie. The sound, the music, is wonderful. And for somebody who shoulders so much, he’s so relaxed and funny and lovely and warm and encouraging and appreciative on the set.”
Mills also praised her co-star Josh Hartnett for his “wonderful performance” as a serial killer trapped at a pop show.
She said: “On-screen, he can change from being lovely, charming, that lovely smile. And then it goes. You see the calculating, cold killer. It’s a wonderful performance.
““It’s quite challenging. It’s like actors who have to play Hitler, they have to find a way to like themselves playing Hitler. They have to find a way to really believe and justify who they are and what they’re doing. You have to burrow into your deepest, darkest places. There’s a resistance to doing that. But I think Josh does that so well. You’ll see. He gets a balance between that darkness but also because he’s a naturally charming person.”

Leigh Francis turned down I’m A Celeb

OHMYGOSSIP — Leigh Francis turned down ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
The 51-year-old comedian revealed he was previously approached by show bosses about competing in the ITV reality show but he declined the offer.
Speaking to fans on Instagram, he said: “No way. They did ask me, though. I took the meeting and they were nice people but I just don’t want to do it.”
He was also asked to take part in ‘Big Brother’ in 2006 but he told his agent: “No chance! I’d rather rip me eyes out.”
Meanwhile, Leigh recently admitted he believes the days of his alter-ego Keith Lemon hosting ‘Celebrity Juice’ are over for good.
The star – who fronted the iconic and outrageous X-rated game show from 2008 to 2022 – insisted the way comedy works has “changed” too much with comedians having to watch what they say.
He told the ‘How To Be In The Spotlight’ podcast: “The comedy landscape has changed. You can’t say things that you used to say.”
Leigh admitted being a father has also impacted his own goals, and he has grown up “a little bit” when it comes to the material he wants to present in public.
He explained: “Also, I grew up a little bit, I’ve got kids – it’s embarrassing when you go to do the school run when the night before you were running about in a studio with your big fat d*** out.”
Between a changing world and Leigh’s own personal growth, he believes the door is closed on ‘Celebrity Juice’.
He added: “I don’t think it will come back.”

Sam Quek for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Quek has signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former Olympian – who won a gold medal for hockey in the 2016 Rio Olympics – has signed up to compete in the upcoming series of the BBC One dance show.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “The show is really tapping into the buzz surrounding the Olympics this year, as well as heavily leaning into BBC talent – perhaps more than ever before.
“But Sam has very much become a star in her own right in recent years, and has been carving out a niche as a presenter.
“She’ll also bring some much-needed glamour to this year’s line-up.”
Following her success in Rio, Sam, 35, went on to present at the Tokyo Olympics and she also became a team captain on ‘A Question of Sport’.
She also appeared on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2016.
Meanwhile, Olympian Tom Dean – who won gold at the Paris Olympics as part of the British relay swim team – is also set to compete on this year’s ‘Strictly’.
A source told TV Biz: “It’s quite a coup for the producers to bag an Olympian fresh from winning gold in Paris, and swimmers have been shown to be great contestants.
“They tend to be a sensation as a result of their fitness, competitiveness and sheer determination to win — and Tom will still be pumped from his victory in France.
“He doesn’t quite have the same profile as other top-level swimmers yet but that’s likely to drastically change after his time on ‘Strictly’.”
Tom previously triumphed at the 2020 Tokyo Games in both the 200m freestyle and the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, making him the first British male swimmer to scoop two gold medals at the same Olympics in 113 years.
Other names expected to take part in the upcoming series include former Arsenal footballer Paul Merson, ‘Love Island’ beauty Tasha Ghouri, ‘EastEnders’ actor Jamie Borthwick, former ‘TOWIE’ star Pete Wicks, blind comedian Chris McCausland, and ‘DIY SOS’ presenter Nick Knowles.

Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan hope historical Love Island win makes change

OHMYGOSSIP — Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan hope their ‘Love Island’ win can help spark change in TV.
The pair made history when they recently became the first Black couple to win the reality show, and while the 24-year-old mental health nurse admitted she initially didn’t realise the significance of their victory, she’s proud to be inspiring others.
She told OK! magazine: “How it’s been in history, people from where we’re from, they never actually become winners.
“I keep saying it’s so surreal because I am just so thrilled to be part of history…
“We didn’t realise how much of the point that we’re making.
“I keep seeing Tweets about me and Josh [saying] this ‘is a win for all of us’ and that’s so real. I feel like everyone has just been uplifted and everyone feels like this could be a start of more change, especially in the TV scene, for recognition of Black history and the importance of Black culture being represented.”
Josh – who joined the show as a bombshell – believes viewers wanted him and Mimii to win because they believed in the “authenticity” of their romance and for the 29-year-old footballer, his focus wasn’t on victory but of building a strong relationship.
He said: “I think for me and Mimii our thing was just so authentic. We were never thinking about winning – winning was never in the plan. My main focus was trying to make my situation with Mimii good.”
She added: “We spoke about things that weren’t just surface level talks, we talked deeply and it would just flow every single time and it was an easy conversation for us to get into.
“We had similar interests, we like the same music and we’re passionate about the same things. We were just very compatible and people could see that. What we went through are things that you could potentially go through on the outside, during the
talking stage or when you’re dating someone. People could relate.”
While Josh was interested in Mimii from the outset, it took her some time to know he was her match.
She added: ““He got to know me from watching me before he came in and for me I was getting to know him fresh.
“So it was like, on the outside if someone was doing that within two days of meeting me, I’d be like, ‘Oh, not sure’, especially since I was also still dealing with a situation before that, that I was trying to get over as well. It was just a lot for me to take in.”

Shayne Ward set for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Shayne Ward is to take part in ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actor – who shot to fame when he won the second series of ‘The X Factor’ in 2005 – is set to take to the dancefloor for the upcoming Latin and ballroom contest and insiders believe he has what it takes to be a serious contender to lift the glitterball trophy.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Shayne is a previous winner of an audience-voted talent show so will have high hopes of doing it again. He is excited to begin training.
“He has some dancing experience so could be a contender for the glitterball trophy.
“He also has a whopping fan base from his years as a ‘Coronation Street’ hunk.”
Shayne could face competition on the show from former Olympic hockey player Sam Quek, who, like the ‘That’s My Goal’ hitmaker, has previously taken part in ITV rival ‘Dancing On Ice’.
A source said: “The show is really tapping into the buzz surrounding the Olympics this year, as well as heavily leaning into BBC talent – perhaps more than ever before.
“But Sam has very much become a star in her own right in recent years, and has been carving out a niche as a presenter.
“She’ll also bring some much-needed glamour to this year’s line-up.”
Olympic swimmer Tom Dean has already confirmed his involvement in the show following his success at the Paris Games.
He said: “Naturally you want to take a break after you’ve had a full Olympic cycle and the opportunity arose. I thought it would be really exciting to try something a bit different.
“I’ll be doing that and straight back into training after it…
“It’s something to look forward to and once I finish this, back home, relax a bit with the family and then we crack on end of August time. It’s exciting.”
Other names expected to take part in the upcoming series include former Arsenal footballer Paul Merson, ‘Love Island’ beauty Tasha Ghouri, ‘EastEnders’ actor Jamie Borthwick, former ‘TOWIE’ star Pete Wicks, blind comedian Chris McCausland, and ‘DIY SOS’ presenter Nick Knowles.
The first name will officially be announced on ‘This Morning’ on Monday (05.08.24).

Josh Hartnett modelled killer character on ‘people in our business’

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh Hartnett modelled his ‘Trap’ serial killer after certain “people in our business”.
The 46-year-old actor stars in M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie as Cooper, a father taking his daughter to a concert where people have set up a sting operation to take down The Butcher, his homicidal alter ego, and he explained he looked at “people who are at the top” for inspiration on his alter ego’s cold-blooded ruthlessness.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “There are a lot of CEOs, politicians, people in our business… a lot of people who are at the top.
“They don’t mind stepping over people or doing horrible things to get where they’re going, and not having any empathy is a pretty big sign of being a psychopath.
“Whether or not you’re murdering people, I’ve met people like this, you know what I mean? So it was easy to take it all a step further, make it a little bolder, and make his cover so intense.”
Josh praised the director for making a film that allowed the audience to empathise with his killer character.
He said: “Night being Night, he wants to give the audience a new experience.
“He’s been doing this his entire career. He’ll take a ghost story and tell it from the point of view of the ghost. He’ll take an alien invasion story and not really show the aliens.
“So this one is like a throwback thriller in a contained space from the perspective of the antagonist. It’s like Die Hard from Hans Gruber’s perspective.”
But the filmmaker explained he wanted to be “very careful” because he was making the movie “from the killer’s point of view”.
He said: “What is he feeling or not feeling? He’s an interesting character to be with because he’s coming alive when things get scary. He gets more playful when things are getting tighter. But with the close-ups, you show him starting to panic.
“As it goes, our close-ups get tighter and tighter, and it starts to become a nightmare.”
