Anne Hathaway praises ‘gift’ Princess Diaries

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Hathaway has hailed ‘The Princess Diaries’ as one of the “greatest gifts” of her life.
The 39-year-old actress shot to fame playing Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 Disney comedy and she will always treasure her experience working with director Gary Marshall to produce a movie that is still popular today.
She said: “That movie is one of the greatest gifts of my life and always will be. It’s really something to think how loved it is after all these years. It makes people feel comfort. It makes people feel safe. It makes people laugh and they keep discovering it even now. And I was so cared for by Garry Marshall.
“He watched out for me and was so lovely and made me feel like I had worth.
“I never experienced anything a 17-year-old shouldn’t experience nor was I ever put in a position that a 17-year-old shouldn’t be put in. That shouldn’t make you lucky – and it shouldn’t need to be said – but it was. And it does.”
Anne believes a lot of her career experiences are down to “luck”, starting from having a family who supported her ambitions because her mother was also an actress.
She told You magazine: “One of the luckiest breaks I had was being born into a family where acting wasn’t feared but respected and valued.
“Though at the same time, they saw first-hand that it’s not necessarily the most mentally healthy career for children.
“I mean, what exactly is a ‘mentally healthy career for children?’ ”
But the Oscar-winning star had to rely on a “con” to land her role in ‘Brokeback Mountain’.
She explained: “When I auditioned for ‘Brokeback Mountain’, the last question the director Ang Lee asked me was: ‘Can you ride a horse?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ And I couldn’t.
“I thought to myself, ‘I have a few weeks to learn.’
“I am very determined, took it very seriously, worked very hard, and learned how to ride well enough to do the film. But when I said that to get the part, was it true? It was not. Did I see a path where it could be true? Yes, I did. What’s the line? When does that become a con?”

Elizabeth McGovern doesn’t understand Downton Abbey’s popularity

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth McGovern “doesn’t understand” the popularity of ‘Downton Abbey’.
The 60-year-old actress will reprise her role as Cora Crawley, the Countess of Grantham, in ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’, and although she’s confident it will be a hit, Elizabeth is still unsure why it’s so successful.
Speaking to the UK edition of OK! magazine, she said: “People ask me why the show has succeeded over the years and I have no idea.
“I don’t understand it. I am just grateful. But viewers connect to it for different reasons.”
Elizabeth thought making the ‘Downton’ movies would be a bigger and better experience than working on the TV show. But the actress found there to be very little difference.
She said: “The funny thing is that it felt very similar.
“I thought the snacks on the [film] set would be better but no… they weren’t.
“We were in the same house, we were staying in the same little bed and breakfasts around [Highclere Castle].
“The film looked and felt so much bigger, expansive and more ambitious than the TV show, but the actual act of shooting it really feels the same.
“You are still having to hit your marks and say your lines. So that was kind of surprising to me.”
The American actress initially found the way of working on the show very “foreign”.
She said: “I do think there is a real cultural divide between the US and the UK.
“The way the English approach work was very foreign to me.
“I suppose it is as much to do with language as anything else.
“Sometimes I did feel like I was foreign and on another planet among all these very English actors, many of them coming from these traditions going back generations.”

Holly Willoughby tests positive for COVID

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby has tested positive for COVID-19.
The 41-year-old TV presenter will miss the ‘Dancing on Ice’ semi-final after returning a positive COVID test, but Holly hopes to return to the ITV show in time for the final.
A statement read: “Unfortunately, Holly Willoughby is unable to host tonight’s show after testing positive for COVID-19.
“We look forward to Holly returning for the ‘Dancing on Ice’ live final.”
Holly’s absence from the show means Phillip Schofield will host the semi-final on his own.
Phillip, 59 – who also co-hosts ‘This Morning’ alongside Holly – tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the series.
The veteran presenter confirmed the news via Instagram at the end of January, posting a snap of a positive lateral flow test on the photo-sharing platform.
However, Phillip also revealed that his symptoms were very mild.
He shared: “I’m fine. I haven’t even got a sore throat now. I’ve sneezed twice, and that’s it! I’ve got a slight temperature.
“This is not what I expected, I’ve got to say.”
In his absence, Stephen Mulhern co-hosted ‘Dancing on Ice’ alongside Holly.
And the 44-year-old presenter relished the opportunity.
He said at the time: “I’m very much looking forward to being back hosting alongside my good friend Holly this weekend. It’s big shoes to fill and I’m wishing Phillip a speedy recovery.
“I’m a big fan of ‘Dancing on Ice’ and for one night only I’m thrilled to be rink side watching the action unfold. It’s going to be unbelievable!”

Connor Ball and Kye Whyte exit Dancing on Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Connor Ball and Kye Whyte have both been voted off ‘Dancing on Ice’ at the semi-final stage.
The 25-year-old singer and Kye, 22, have both left the ITV show after the judges – Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean – opted to save Kimberly Wyatt instead.
Kye actually dedicated a routine to his mum – who is currently receiving treatment for cancer – but it failed to save him from an early exit.
He shared: “She’s currently in treatment and she’s finding it really hard. I’m really struggling to deal with it. I don’t talk about it at all.”
At the end of the routine, he reflected: “It was great. Obviously it was for my mum. Happy birthday mum.”
Oti, 31, was visibly moved by the emotional performance.
She said: “Regardless of what happens tonight, the fact you’re going through what you’re going through, you’ve been through so many skate-offs, you still manage to come out there – it’s making me emotional … you come out here every single week with a smile on your face and perform. You should be proud of yourself.”
Elsewhere, Regan Gascoigne and Brendan Cole both advanced straight into the final of this year’s competition, meaning they managed to avoid the dreaded skate-off.
Phillip Schofield hosted the show on his own this week after Holly Willoughby – his regular co-host – tested positive for COVID-19.
However, the 41-year-old presenter hopes to return to the show in time for the final.
A statement read: “Unfortunately, Holly Willoughby is unable to host tonight’s show after testing positive for COVID-19.

Coleen Nolan ‘feels sick’ when she hears Dancing on Ice theme

OHMYGOSSIP — Coleen Nolan admits hearing the ‘Dancing on Ice’ theme music makes her “feel sick”.
The ‘Loose Women’ panellist took part in the ITV figure skating show back in 2009, and just hearing the music is enough to scare the 57-year-old TV star, who will never return to the ice, though she credits the competition with making her “brave”.
She said: “The hardest part about the whole thing was the ice, it just hated me.”
Coleen continued: “I can’t believe it’s been 13 years since I did it, I still feel sick when I hear the music, however, ‘Dancing on Ice’ really taught me how to be brave and I’ve carried that with me since.
“The experience as a whole was absolutely amazing but also so so scary.”
Ahead of the final of this year’s series, the former Nolans singer is gunning for Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, 40, to win.
She told the Daily Star: “I think Either Brendan Cole or Kimberly Wyatt will win. But I hope it’s Kimberley as I worked with her a few years ago and she was so lovely, plus she skates beautifully.”
On who she sees leaving, she added: “I can’t imagine who will go out next as they’re all so good.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Patton Oswalt thinks that Marvel will eventually realise “that they had an amazing franchise” on Netflix.
The 53-year-old star explained that the blockbuster movie franchise – which was also a television venture for the streaming giant with shows such as ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ between 2013 and 2019 – predicted that Netflix bosses will eventually decide to do a “low stakes, gritty” revival with characters Misty Knight and Colleen Wing.
He said: “I think that Marvel is going to realize that they had an amazing franchise in their laps for free in their Netflix shows with Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, those two actors. Someone in five years, hopefully sooner, will realize, ‘Do that!’ A low stakes, gritty, street-level superhero noir with those two characters, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. They’re sitting right there! So I’m predicting that someone at Marvel will realize what they’ve got and they will run with it.”
The former Marvel Cinematic Universe star – who played Pip the Troll in ‘Eternals’ and also held a few roles during the MCU’s run on Netflix – is now starring in comedy film ‘I Love My Dad’ as a father who “catfishes” his son by pretending to be a waitress and admitted that he was drawn to the project because of its “ballsy script.”
He told Collider: “The script was fantastic and it really went where this story would go. There wasn’t any shying away from any of the cringey elements, but also the hilarious elements, a lot of which were hand in hand. And I’m a big film buff and I like working with newer voices, writers, directors, and especially when I read a script this ballsy. It had that feeling of, ‘I just want to see if we pull this off.”

The Power of the Dog named Best Picture at Critics Choice Awards 2022

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Power of the Dog’ was named Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards 2022.
Jane Campion’s acclaimed Western starring Benedict Cumberbatch – which has already bagged three Golden Globes and is heavily tipped for success at the Oscars – was nominated for 10 prizes and took home four, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Joining stars Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons and producer Roger Frappier on stage at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday night (13.03.22) to accept Best Picture, Jane quipped about being wounded by critics early on in her career.
She laughed: “I’ve still got some PTSD from critics going back to early in my career — ouch, some very deep wounds.
“But I’ve also been really championed. We are so proud and so grateful.”
Benedict – who portrays ranch owner Phil Burbank in the flick – was unable to attend as he attended the BAFTAs in London that night.
The film also won Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography (Ari Wagner).
The Best Actor prize went to Will Smith for ‘King Richard’ and his speech was so long the “please wrap up” signal was activated.
The ‘I Am Legend’ star quipped: “I think Best Actor should get a little more time.”
Will dedicated his win to tennis aces Serena and Venus Williams and their mother, Oracene Price, and thanked them for trusting him to tell their story.
The 53-year-old actor, who plays their father Richard Williams, said: “Thank you for entrusting me with your story.
“What your family was able to do inspired everyone in this room, everyone in this country and everyone around the world. You all define the American dream.”
Will also paid a special tribute to Aunjanue Ellis, who played Oracene.
He added: “Your father didn’t do it alone; it would be disingenuous for me to accept this award without acknowledging Aunjanue Ellis.”
Best Actress went to Ariana DeBose for ‘West Side Story’, however, the 31-year-old star was also at the BAFTAs.
Elsewhere, The Best Young Actor accolade went to Jude Hill, 11, for ‘Belfast’ and his on-screen dad Jamie Dornan (Pa) accepted the movie’s Best Acting Ensemble prize.
The 39-year-old star quipped: “Critics are not usually very nice to me. So this is a change.
“It doesn’t actually say ‘Belfast’ on this, can I just make this clear, so this might not be right.”
Sir Kenneth Branagh’s script based on his own childhood won Best Original Screenplay.
‘Dune’ also went home with three awards for Production Design, Visual Effects and Best Score.
Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer hosted the star-studded ceremony.

Brenda Blethyn thinks there is a ‘difference in the friendliness’ between the North and the South

OHMYGOSSIP — Brenda Blethyn thinks that there is a “difference in the friendliness” between the North and the South .
The 76-year-old actress – who is originally from Kent and is known for playing the title role on ITV drama series ‘Vera’, which is set and filmed in the North East – explained that she “loves” working in the North of England and finds a “difference” there when compared to the rest of the country.
She said: “I love it, I just love it – I love the people up there, too. There is a difference between the friendliness of the North and the South, I don’t care what anybody says.”
The BAFTA Award Winning actress has played the role of DCI Vera Stanhope for over a decade in the acclaimed series – which is based on the novels by Ann Cleeves – and thinks that the biggest “compliment” is that the show is popular in the area where it is set.
She told RadioTimes.com: “That’s the main compliment, really, that the people of the North East like Vera.”
The ‘Kate Koji’ actress then went on to reveal that the show is also making waves Down Under and that the latest series of ‘Vera’ even beat Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s address to the nation in the ratings.
She said: “I don’t know if you’ve clocked what’s been happening in Australia ?Season 11 has been going out in Australia on ABC and they’ve scheduled it against the Prime Minister’s [Scott Morrison] address to the nation… and Vera won! There will be tweets saying ‘Vera for Prime Minister!'”

TikTok star Sam Ryder to sing Space Man for UK at Eurovision 2022

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Ryder is to sing ‘Space Man’ for the UK at Eurovision 2022.
The 31-year-old TikTok star – who boasts 12 million followers on the video sharing app – will perform his self-penned song at the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2022 and insisted that he will not let the “stigma” of the UK finishing in last place for the past two years stop his enjoyment of taking part.
He said: “I love Eurovision. I think it’s such a privilege to be able to do. I don’t want to let the stigma or fear of coming at a certain place in a table stop me from doing something and being a part of something that I enjoy so much.”
The annual competition will take place Turin, Italy following the victory Italian rock band Måneskin during the 2021 contest which was held in Rotterdam.
The ‘Tiny Riot’ singer also explained that he will “do the best job [he] can” but knows that anything else is beyond his control and vowed to only remember his “gratitude” for the opportunity.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, he said: “As long as I can go to Eurovision and know in my heart of hearts I’m going to do the best job I can then everything else is out of my control. Music is about sharing and connection. The only thing I have in my power to do is remember kindness, gratitude for the opportunity and empathy.
Sam was chosen to represent the country after Tap Music – the company behind the careers of popstars such as Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding – came on board to find a new act to represent the UK after James Newman received zero points for his song ‘Embers.’

Gogglebox’s Malone family heartbroken over death of pet dog

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Gogglebox’ family The Malones have been left devastated after their beloved pet dog Lucy died.
The family – who made their debut on the programme in 2014 – have had four Rottweiler pooches throughout, Dave, Bob, Lucy and Izzey, but Tom Malone Jr, 28, has revealed their four-legged friend Lucy has passed away, seven months after losing another of their dogs, Izzey.
Tom shared a snap of him and Lucy together on his Instagram page, with a heartfelt caption that read: “Rest easy Lucy, you were a good girl”
Tom Snr and Julie also shared a snap on their Instagram of Tom Snr kissing Lucy on the head while she lay sleeping on a mat.
A post read: “Today we said goodbye to our beloved Lucy ,she fought right to the end to stay with us. Now reunited with her sister Izzey.
“There are no words to describe how much you meant to us .Rest In Peace Sweetheart, you will always be in our hearts. (sic)”
Several ‘Gogglebox’ co-stars shared their support with messages of condolences under the post.
Izzi Warner commented: “Rest in peace sweet girl. Thinking of you all.”
Stephen Webb wrote: “Sorry to hear this! Sending hugs (sic)”
Dave and Shirley Griffiths added: “Sorry to hear that Tom love dave and shirley. (sic)”
Charity Blue Cross also showed their support, writing: “Everyone at Blue Cross is sending their love to you and the family during this difficult time. We’ve enjoyed watching Lucy and the dogs for so long. We’re thinking of you all and, please know that our Bereavement team are always on hand if you ever need someone to talk to. RIP Lucy. (sic)”

Kate Garraway signs up for DNA Journey

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway has signed up to appear in ‘DNA Journey’.
The 54-year-old TV presenter – whose husband Derek Draper contracted COVID-19 in March 2020 and has suffered life-changing complications as a result of the disease ever since – will take part in the ITV series alongside a host of other stars as she embarks on an “emotional” journey to discover more about her biological history.
ITV Head of Entertainment Commissioning Katie Rawcliffe said: “‘DNA Journey’ is an enthralling combination of heart-warming, emotional and high octane all at the same time, and it’s great to welcome some of TV’s favourite faces onto the show to delve deeper into their family histories and secrets.”
Kate – who won a BAFTA for her 2021 documentary ‘Finding Derek’, which explored her husband’s battle with the virus – will appear alongside ‘This Morning’ presenter Alison Hammond as she discovers her own DNA history, in a series set to air in the autumn.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter joins a host of stars who have each signed up in pairs for an episode to explore their family’s background, including the likes of ‘Coronation Street’ actresses Maureen Lipman, 75, and Rula Lenska,74, as well as ‘Dancing on Ice’ stars Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and ‘The Chase’ favourites Anne Hegerty, 63 and Shaun Wallace, 61, whose episodes are set to air this spring.
Kate’s part of the series will air in autumn 2022 with on-screen ‘Gavin and Stacey’ couple Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb as well Joel Dommett and Tom Allen also taking part.
A spokesperson at Mitre Studios said “The great joy of ‘DNA Journey’ is that our stars have no idea where their trip is going to take them. It’s an absorbing, involving, voyage of discovery with a secret surprise or twist in every turn.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Riley wants to film an ‘Emmerdale’ episode in Ireland.
The 45-year-old actress – who plays Mandy Dingle in the show – recently went to the Emerald Isle during a break from filming, and it gave her an idea for the soap to shoot some scenes there.
She said: “I’d love to film some episodes in Ireland.
“The show has done it before – Paddy and Marlon went on location to Belfast when Paddy’s dad Bear was introduced.”
Mandy’s ex Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) and her cousin Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) took a trip to Northern Ireland to find out if wrestler Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) was Paddy’s real dad in 2019, and the pair headed to Belfast in real life to shoot some scenes.
Lisa thinks Mandy – who she has played since 1995 – would relish drinking in Ireland.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: “The Dingles have relatives in Ireland, I’m sure Mandy has a cousin in Galway. Then there’s the drinking – Mandy would love that!”
But Dales fans shouldn’t expect to see Lisa in Australia on TV anytime soon as last year the star admitted she wouldn’t be able to take part in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ – which has been filmed in Wales in the past two years – because she would be “so bored”.
She said: “I love playing Mandy so much, that’s why I keep turning down other good roles.
“They offer me ‘I’m A Celebrity’ every year and every year I say ‘no’. It’s not because of all the creepy crawlies or the challenges, I actually wouldn’t mind those.
“I would just be so bored in there. I have so much energy from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep.
“Being sat in camp all day would send me crazy. I would need to be stimulated all the time.”

Josh Peck added to Oppenheimer cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Josh Peck has become the latest star to join ‘Oppenheimer’.
The ‘Drake and Josh’ actor has been added to the all-star ensemble of Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic, which is set to be released in July 2023.
Josh will portray Kenneth Bainbridge, a scientist who was involved in the Manhattan Project – the code name for America’s effort to develop nuclear weapons during the conflict.
Cillian Murphy heads the cast as J. Robert Oppenheimer – the physicist whose contribution led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
He is joined by a range of stars including Emily Blunt as biologist and botanist Kitty Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as the Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves Jr. and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss, the founding commissioner of the US Atomic Energy Commission.
Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Alden Ehrenreich, Josh Hartnett and Sir Kenneth Branagh are all starring in the movie.
In addition to directing, Nolan is adapting the script from the award-winning book ‘American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer’ by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.
Cillian recently admitted that playing Oppenheimer felt both “immense” and “terrifying” but he enjoys the challenge of playing difficult roles.
The 45-year-old star said: “It does feel immense and it feels terrifying but if I felt it was easy, I wouldn’t be interested. I do get nervous, anxious and insecure, but then you go, ‘F*** it. I’ve been doing it for 25 years and I have done it before. So just keep going.'”

Hollyoaks launches new digital series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Hollyoaks’ has launched a brand-new digital project to highlight the daily precautions women have to take to ensure their safety.
The series, titled ‘Why Should I?’, begins with two powerful short films in which several cast members share their own experiences regarding their personal safety.
Alex Fletcher (Diane Hutchinson), Ruby O’Donnell (Peri Lomax) and Eva O’Hara (Verity Hutchinson), are included in the project alongside Lucy-Jo Hudson (Donna-Marie Quinn), Annie Wallace (Sally St. Claire), Vera Chok (Honour Chen-Williams), Lily Best (Lizzie Chen-Williams), Ariana Fraval (DI Cohen) and Dawn Hope (Pearl Anderson).
The second half of the project, which features an all male cast, will see them watch and discuss the issues raised in the first part.
Richard Blackwood (Felix Westwood), Owen Warner (Romeo Nightingale), Gregory Finnegan (James Nightingale), Gabriel Clark (Ollie Morgan), Dominic Power (Dave Chen-Williams), Chris Charles (Saul Reeves), and Matthew James-Bailey (Ethan Williams) are all featured in part two.
The campaign video for the short film debuted to a number of high profile women that where at attendance for a special International Women’s Day event in London. The short film itself premiered on Hollyoaks’ official YouTube channel.
This comes just days after the Channel 4 soap aired its International Women’s Day special.
The episode brought to light the unwanted experiences women are faced with on a daily basis, and highlighted the gender bias where women are branded unfairly and “s*** shammed”.
The show will continue to branch out and explore topics related to misogyny and women’s safety throughout the year.

Josie Gibson is bringing her son up as a ‘1930s gentleman’

OHMYGOSSIP — Josie Gibson is bringing her son up as a “1930s gentleman.”
The 37-year-old TV presenter is mum to three-year-old Reggie with ex boyfriend Terry, and she wants to raise the toddler to “respect” all women.
She said: “I’m very old fashioned, so he’s really got to respect any women who come through his life and be an absolute 1930s gentleman.”
However, Josie – who shot to fame as winner of Channel 4 reality series ‘Big Brother’ in 2011 – also went on to explain that parenting a “three-nager” has been “tricky” as his behaviour has been so inconsistent as of late and had to turn to a specialist for help.
She told new! magazine: “He was really naughty and the last couple of weeks he has been really good! It’s really tricky as he’s gone through the ‘three-nager’ stage [and] the meltdowns are horrendous. I took him to a homeopath – I always go down the natural route. We got some drops for him and he’s been brilliant ever since. He’s a really loving little boy, he’s more loving than me. I thought it would be the other way around. There’s nothing more special than the love between a woman and her son.”
Josie – who was recently praised when she was drafted in to present alongside Phillip Schofield on ‘This Morning’ at the last minute, despite usually presenting the live competition segments – was speaking on International Women’s Day and revealed her female colleagues at ITV Daytime as some of the most “inspirational” women in her life.
She said: “Alison [Hammond] and Holly [Willoughby] definitely inspire me. I’ve got so many inspiration women because I love strong women who aren’t afraid to go for it. Davina McCall, I love her. There are so many at ITV. Denise Welch always blows me away. She’s very strong and not afraid to speak up. Nadia Sawalha [is] so funny. I love them all.”

Danny Dyer put off colonic irrigation for life after car dump

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ star Danny Dyer has revealed he once pooped himself in his car – which has put him off colonic irrigations forever.
The 44-year-old actor recalled the embarrassing incident that occurred in his vehicle after he went for a procedure, which meant he had to endure a whole car journey home while sitting in his own dump.
Danny said: “I had a colonic once and I shat in my car didn’t I? I had to sit there in my own s***. Hence why I would never have one again.”
Despite pooping in his vehicle, the actor – who is the dad of former ‘Love Island’ winner Dani Dyer – admitted he finds flatulence funny.
Dani also finds it hilarious when someone breaks wind.
Speaking on their podcast ‘Sorted With the Dyers’, she said: “I find farting so funny. It never gets old, it’s just stupid.
“I’ve never farted in front of my boyfriends. I just can’t fart.”
This comes after Danny – who has played Mick Carter on the BBC soap for nearly a decade since joining in 2013 – recently revealed he is leaving the show later this year.
And earlier this week, the star admitted he would love to work with Dani more.
He said: “I want to work with my Dani a lot more. One of the reasons I’ve decided to leave the show is because I want to explore more work with my little Dan. I love her so much.
“I just think we’ve got such a natural chemistry and an interesting relationship, it needs to be explored more. So we’re excited about that, actually.”
