Adam Sandler to star in Netflix comedy alongside wife and daughters

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Sandler, his wife and their daughters are to star in Netflix film ‘You Are SO Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah!’.
The 55-year-old actor will join forces with his significant other Jackie Sandler, 47 – who has been married to the ‘Grown Ups’ star since 2003 – and their kids, Sadie, 16, and Sunny, 13, for the adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s YA novel of the same name.
It’s not yet been confirmed what roles the couple and their kids will have.
The movie will also see Sandler reunite with this ‘Uncut Gems’ co-star Idina Menzel.
The pair will star alongside Sarah Sherman, Luis Guzmán, Ido Mosseri, Samantha Lorraine, Dylan Hoffman, Dean Scott Vazquez, Miya Cech, Ivory Baker, Dylan Dash, Millie Thorpe, and Zaara Kuttemperoor in the film.
In the book, main character Stacey Friedman of White Plains, New York, is preparing for her bat mitzvah, but her world is turned upside down when she catches her best pal Lydia Katz smooching her crush Andy Goldfarb.
Sandler and Tim Herlihy will produce the movie for Happy Madison, alongside Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz. Barry Bernardi, Judit Maull and Kevin Grady are executive producing.
It comes after Netflix and Sandler’s Happy Madison signed a four-movie extension in 2020, after initially penning a deal in 2014.
They have so far produced movies ‘Sandy Wexler’, ‘Murder Mystery’, ‘The Do-Over’, ‘The Week Of’, ‘Hubie Halloween’, ‘The Ridiculous Six’ and ‘Hustle’, as well as comedy special ‘100% Fresh’.
Sandler and Menzel previously starred in his 2019 movie ‘Uncut Gems’, which told the story of New York City jeweller Howard Ratner (Sandler), who prepares to risk everything to stay alive.

Daniel Kaluuya not in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel Kaluuya has confirmed he won’t be in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
The 33-year-old actor portrayed W’Kabi in the first movie of the series but revealed scheduling conflicts with his upcoming film ‘Nope’ meant he was unable to sign on for the sequel.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I’m not in it. I was filming Nope. … I was always in prep and then the call came, and I wasn’t able to do it.”
Daniel insisted there are no hard feelings with him and Marvel and he “can’t wait” to see the finished movie because he knows it will pay tribute to late co-star Chadwick Boseman – who died following a secret battle with cancer in August 2020 – in an “incredible” way.
He added: “It’s love, man, but also, I’ve heard things and I know that they’re gonna do Chad an incredible, incredible, incredible service, so that’s what I really care about. I can’t wait to watch it.”
Daniel can next be seen in ‘Nope’ and while director Jordan Peele – who he previously worked with on 2017’s ‘Get Out’ – has been incredibly complimentary about his performance, branding the former ‘Skins’ star his “favourite actor” and the Robert De Niro to his Martin Scorsese, he won’t let it go to his head.
He said: “It’s flattering, ’cause I respect him so much as a filmmaker and as a voice, and also as an actor.
You forget, like, Jordan is an incredible actor.
“But like with all compliments, you accept it, love, and then you act cool.
“The work, like, don’t let it get to you, ’cause you can’t do anything with that, you know what I mean?… I am playing this guy. I am trying to talk to you, and this is what I mean in this moment.”
Keke Palmer plays Daniel’s sister in ‘Nope’ and they found their familial bond came “naturally” to them.
Daniel explained: “I always feel like, in a scene, she wants the best for me and I want the best for her.
“It’s like, ‘OK, so what makes sense for this scene? How do we vibe out?’ We really cared about making joyous moments between them, and having those moments where a brother and sister — or brother and brother or sister and sister — go, ‘That’s like me!’ ”

BBC need new partner to continue with Gentleman Jack

OHMYGOSSIP — The BBC are “certainly up for” continuing with ‘Gentleman Jack’ but need to find a new broadcast partner.
It was announced last week that the network’s co-producers, HBO won’t be moving forward with anymore episodes of the period drama – which stars Suranne Jones in the title role – and writer Sally Wainwright admitted she was left “gutted” by the decision, which came as a “surprise”.
She said: “Well, I think we all are [gutted]. It’s been a bit of a surprise really because it’s been doing really well, certainly in this country. We were ready to go again, the BBC certainly [is] up for going again.
“I think if HBO had been up for it, there’d have been no question. It’s been a very successful show in all areas for them – it’s had fantastic reviews, it’s had a very respectable audience and on top of that it’s had an impact on the community of gay women. We have the most extraordinary fanbase, they organise all sorts of events.”
And Sally admitted she doesn’t think the BBC will continue with the show as a solo production, though other options are being explored.
She told RadioTimes.com: “I think [the BBC] wouldn’t want to continue with it without it having the same production values.
“So we would need to find another partner who would stream it globally. You know, I think all those other options are being explored at the minute given that there is a desire to go on with it amongst quite a lot of people – the BBC, Lookout Point, myself, you know.”
Following the news that HBO had axed the show, the BBC confirmed a few days ago that they had been talking to Sally about their options to continue.
A spokesperson said last week: “We are tremendously proud of ‘Gentleman Jack’, a show which has made a huge cultural impact, and we are in discussions with Sally about what’s next.”

Tanya Reynolds confirms Sex Education exit and reveals reason for shock departure

OHMYGOSSIP — Tanya Reynolds is “very sad” to be leaving ‘Sex Education’.
The 30-year-old actress – who stars in upcoming Channel 4 comedy ‘I Hate You’ – won’t be returning for the fourth season of the Netflix comedy drama having played alien-loving student Lily Iglehart for the first three series.
She told RadioTimes.com: “I’m not [returning], actually, which is sad, very sad.
“It’s just the natural progression of these shows – when you have such big ensemble casts and so many characters, I think you have to let a few older characters go to make way for newer ones, which is absolutely the right thing, the way it should happen.”
Tanya – whose character delighted fans with her bold outfits and X-rated obsession with extra terrestrials – insisted she was leaving the show after the “perfect amount” of time.
She added: “I loved every minute of it and I loved Lily with my whole entire heart. Three seasons was just a really perfect amount for me.”
Her exit comes as cast mate Patricia Allison – who plays Ola Nyman, with whom Lily sparked an on-screen romance in season three – is also leaving the coming of age show.
She recently said: “I absolutely have loved being on ‘Sex Education’ so so much, and playing Ola but unfortunately, I won’t be joining the team for season four.”
She explained that the decision was made so she could focus on “some other little things” after being committed to the show for so long.
She revealed: “Some other opportunities have come up. So, I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve like genuinely loved it.”
‘Sex Education’ – which stars Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield as mother/son duo Otis and Jean Milburn – is currently filming its fourth season, although Netflix is yet to confirm a release date.

Ryan Gosling: Ken is having a rough time in Barbie

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Gosling’s Ken doll in the new ‘Barbie’ movie is going through a tough time.
The 41-year-old actor stars opposite Margot Robbie as the famous doll in the upcoming movie and revealed that Ken is going through a rougher time than his wanted spy character in the Netflix film ‘The Gray Man’ as he has no money or home.
Ryan told Entertainment Tonight: “That Ken life is even harder than the ‘Gray Man’ life, I think.
“Ken’s got no money, he’s got no job, he’s got no car, he’s got no house. He’s going through some stuff.”
The ‘La La Land’ star refused to give much away about the movie, with rumours suggesting that Margot and Ryan find themselves lost in the real world as Barbie and Ken.
Ryan said: “It’s not what you think it is, unless it is.
“And then you know what it is, but I don’t think that’s what you think it is. Wait, what are we talking about?”
Gosling joked that Mattel will come and “box me up” if he gave away any information about ‘Barbie’.
He said: “I can’t wait for people to see the film. That’s all I can say. Otherwise, Mattel will come in and box me up.”
Ryan features in ‘The Gray Man’ as CIA mercenary Court Gentry/Sierra Six, who is hunted by a team of government hitmen when he goes rogue, and was amazed by the amount of effort that it took to bring his character to life on screen.
He explained: “What I didn’t realise was just how many people it takes to make an action hero.
“It looks like it’s me doing all of those things, and yes, I do some of it. But we had an incredible stunt team, and an incredible special effects team.”

Joe Keery, Camila Morrone and Aldis Hodge cast in Marmalade

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Keery, Camila Morrone and Aldis Hodge have been cast in ‘Marmalade’.
The trio have been revealed as the stars of Keir O’Donnell’s romantic drama, which is set to wrap production in Minnesota.
The movie will mark O’Donnell’s directorial debut after numerous acting appearances – including ‘Wedding Crashers’, ‘American Sniper’ and ‘Ambulance’.
Cinematographer Polly Morgan, who has worked on the upcoming movies ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ and ‘The Woman King’, is also attached to the film.
O’Donnell has penned the script for ‘Marmalade’, which centres on a naive small-town man who ends up in prison and narrates the tale of a romantic bank heist to his cunning cellmate so he can escape and be reunited with the love of his life.
The flick is being produced by Tea Shop Productions’ James Harris and Mark Lane along with Sarah Gabriel and Marc Goldberg under the Signature Films banner.
Joe stars in the hit Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’ and also worked with Ryan Reynolds on the 2021 movie ‘Free Guy’ – where he was impressed with the ‘Deadpool’ star.
The 30-year-old star said: “I was pretty blown away because he just makes it look really easy.
“And what he’s doing, it’s hard. Not anyone can do it. It just gave me a really deep appreciation for him and all of his work that he’s done up until this point.”
Keery revealed how he paid close attention to the way Ryan conducted himself both in front of and behind the camera.
He explained: “As the kind of leading actor. (Ryan) just set a tone of collaboration really early on, and comfortability. I assume he’s probably aware that people are nervous to meet him. And, right away, he’s very disarming and really puts you at ease.”

Changing Rooms will be back but Anna Richardson isn’t returning as host

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Changing Rooms’ is returning for a second series of the Channel 4 reboot.
The classic interior design show – which was revived in August 2021 with Anna Richardson at the helm – will be back for another series this summer, with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen leading his team through more home makeovers.
He’ll be getting to work Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead of 2LG Studio, alongside two new interior designers, Michaela Sharp and Winnie Williams, but ‘Naked Attraction’ host Anna won’t be back as the ‘Changing Rooms’ presenter.
However, carpenter and joiner Tibby Singh will return to the home makeover show, which is made in partnership with Dulux.
In a statement, Laurence said: “Like Arnie in ‘The Terminator’ and Jack in ‘The Shining’, ‘Changing Rooms’ is back smashing down the doors of the nation’s most ‘meh’ interiors to let the colour and excitement of full fat decorating in.
“Having loved every minute of last year’s revival that coincided with The Changing Rooms Silver Jubilee, I’ve got some spectacular, nay superhuman, transformations planned.”
Jonny Rothery – commissioning editor for Channel 4 – added: “Last year’s reboot of ‘Changing Rooms’ was a highlight of the year, bringing the inimitable Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen back to UK screens and introducing the very talented Russell and Jordan to our viewers.
“I’m thrilled we’re doing it all again and welcoming more new faces to the ‘Changing Rooms’ family. I can’t wait to see the makeovers our brilliant designers come up with.”
Jon Swain – Managing Director at Shine TV – commented: “We’re delighted that ‘Changing Rooms’ is returning. It brought so much fun and colour into people’s living rooms last year, and we can’t wait to see what our brilliant designers will come up with for summer 2022.
“It’s the ultimate feelgood home show: funny, inspiring and always down to earth.”

Jacques O’Neill offered welfare support from former rugby club

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ star Jacques O’Neill has been offered support from his former rugby league club’s Welfare Officer following his time on the show.
The 23-year-old star quit the ITV2 programme this week after admitting he “couldn’t be himself” on the series, and his former side Castleford Tigers have confirmed the ex-Islander has been in talks with the Super League outfit.
A tweet on the club’s official Twitter account read: “Castleford Tigers can confirm that today, Jacques O’Neill has been in communication with the club, visited our First Team ahead of today’s training session and that O’Neill can receive support from our Welfare Officer should he wish.”
Castleford also admitted they were looking forward to welcoming Jacques and his mother to a game “very soon”.
A statement on their official website read: “In advance of appearing on the reality TV show Love Island, the Tigers’ Welfare Officer had communication with O’Neill, and this support will continue to be offered to him. Alongside the welcoming nature of our First Team environment, of which he has been a part since the age of 16.
“Castleford Tigers’ primary focus with Jacques at this stage will be to support him. All at the club look forward to welcoming Jacques and his mother Janet to The Mend-A-Hose Jungle for a Betfred Super League match very soon, to cheer on the Fords.
“The Club will make no further comment at this stage.”
Last month, Castleford revealed Jacques had been released from his contract ahead of his ‘Love Island’ appearance, but they had the first option to sign the hooker back if he wanted to return to the sport.
A statement read: “Castleford Tigers can confirm that the club has agreed to release Jacques O’Neill from his contract to allow him to pursue another opportunity.
“The Tigers have the first option to sign O’Neill back next year should he wish to return to rugby league.
“Known for a fearless attitude on the field by Castleford supporters, the Cumbrian-born 23-year-old is a proud product of the Tigers’ youth system having come through both our scholarship and academy programmes before making his Super League debut.
“Castleford Tigers would like to wish Jacques well with his new opportunity and thank him for his efforts as a Tiger so far.”
Jacques departed the villa shortly after bombshell Adam Collard – who took part in the show in 2018 – returned to the programme and set his sights on Paige Thorne, who the rugby player was coupled up with.
But relations between Jacques and Paige had been slightly strained since Casa Amor, when he kissed Cheyanne Kerr before deciding to recouple with the paramedic.

Rowan Atkinson reveals why he refuses to watch Line of Duty or read reviews of his own work

OHMYGOSSIP — Rowan Atkinson refuses to watch ‘Line of Duty’.
The ‘Blackadder’ legend admitted while he knows the BBC One police corruption drama is “a brilliant show”, he couldn’t bring himself to watch anything after the first series because it was “too stressful”.
Speaking at GQ Heroes in association with BMW at Soho Farmhouse, he said: “I don’t like stressful television … I can’t stand watching ‘Line of Duty’, which is a brilliant show.
“I watched the first series and thought it was absolutely brilliant, and then I started watching the second series and I found that I just couldn’t watch it because I was finding it too stressful because you know that things are going to go wrong.
“It’s brilliantly written and made but I don’t like that kind of TV.”
He was speaking during a session with Miranda Sawyer entitled ‘40 Years of Playing Extraordinary Fools’, as Rowan reflected on his storied career.
The 67-year-old star revealed he won’t read any reviews for his own films or TV shows because he isn’t making them for critics.
He added: “One of the reasons why I don’t listen to pundits or read reviews… is because I don’t feel the need, because they’re not the people I’m trying to entertain.
“The two parties I’m trying to entertain is me and the intended audience, the audience out there, the general public.
“Not the people who are making a noise between me and them.”
The comedy veteran previously admitted he also finds it “stressful and exhausting” playing his beloved Mr. Bean character because of the “weight of responsibility”.
Explaining the difference between the animated and live action versions, he said: “It’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually. I don’t much enjoy playing him.
“The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it.”

Fern Britton: Meeting someone would be icing on the cake

OHMYGOSSIP — Fern Britton says meeting someone would be the “icing on the cake” for her “perfect” life.
The former ‘This Morning’ presenter split from 60-year-old TV chef Phil Vickery in January 2020 after 20 years of marriage, and while the mother of four – who has twins Jack and Harry, 28, and daughter Grace, 25 from first marriage to Clive Jones, and daughter Winnie, 20, with Phil – admits she hasn’t thought about dating at the moment, but it “would be lovely” if a Mr. Right came along.
Fern, 64, who is the August cover star of Prima magazine, told the publication: “I’m not considering dating right now. I haven’t been seeing anyone and nobody has approached me, which is nice, too.
“If someone came along who was lovely and kind and we didn’t have to live together – if he had his life and I had mine – that might be perfect.
“But on the other hand, life is pretty bloody perfect right now and I’m happy with my company, so meeting someone would simply be icing on the cake.”
Fern went on to say that this new chapter has come at the right time of her life, but she doesn’t “want to be the poster girl for separation”.
She added: “This new chapter has come at the right time for me. I don’t want to be the poster girl for separation, though, because a lot of people go through the same thing.
“Often, the children leave home and you look at each other and go, ‘Ah, where do we go from here?’ I only wish I was the sort of person who could have persevered through that, but I couldn’t.”
The presenter, who lost her house when she split from TV chef husband, encouraged those in the same boat to “have courage”.
She said: “Get yourself financially independent, so you have the opportunity not to have to rely on anybody for anything. We can’t rely on somebody for our own happiness, let alone to look after us and keep us housed.
“Then, if you find yourself in a situation where you’re at a crossroads, have courage. Look into yourself and ask, ‘How do I feel?’ If the answer is, ‘Pretty depressed,’ you don’t have to conform just because you think other people want you to. Do it for yourself.”

Gemma Oaten almost died during battle with milk-alkali syndrome

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Oaten almost died during her battle with milk-alkali syndrome.
The former ‘Emmerdale’ star was hospitalised earlier this year before being diagnosed with the rare kidney condition, which sees a high level of calcium in the body and can lead to kidney failure and even death.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ on Thursday (14.07.22), Gemma told guest host Carol Vorderman “My calcium levels went to a dangerously high point…
“Effectively my body was poisoning itself.
“It was only two months ago that this all happened really.”
Gemma, 38, had “no idea” about the severity of the situation until she was taken to hospital, where she had 8 per cent kidney function and 20 per cent oxygen.
She said: “I had not been feeling well for a while to be honest but I didn’t practice what I preached and I just put it down to one side.
“We’d had a big funding cut for the charity that I am CEO of and I’d put it down to stress and the pressure of that.
“I was also doing a morning breakfast radio show so I was getting up early at half past four and doing my full time job and then auditions so I just put it down to nausea, feeling tired.”
She attributed symptoms – such as stomach cramps – to anxiety and stress, and after being struck down with COVID-19 she found out she had milk-alkali syndrome.
In hospital, she was told it was caused by years of taking too much calcium carbonate through Rennie tablets.
Asked why she was taking so many, she said: “I was poorly from the age of 10 with anorexia. That anorexia then led into bulimia and I was struggling for 13 years.”
Although she is now in recovery, there are some after effects which could be permanent, as she may not be able to have children due to the syndrome, while her teeth are “falling apart” after years of damage.
She added: “It’s such a difficult and toxic illness to battle. It’s a mental health illness. I think people think that it’s about vanity and just social media.
“It’s not, it’s about human beings struggling with pain.”

Kris Marshall: Death in Paradise spin-off series is really unique

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Death in Paradise’ star Kris Marshall says ‘Beyond Paradise’ is “really unique”.
The new series was announced by BBC late last month and will see the 49-year-old actor reprise his role as DI Humphrey Goodman, who he played the in the BBC drama ‘Death in Paradise’ from 2014 to 2017 before he was replaced by Ardal O’Hanlan.
The spin-off series will follow the detectives adventures as he returns to the UK from the fictional Lesser Antilles island of Saint Marie, to settle with Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), the tourist he fell in love with.
Unlike the previous show, which was filmed on the sunny Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, ‘Beyond Paradise’ is set in the British countryside, which according to Kris, gives it a “brand new spin”.
He told Digital Spy: “So, it’s set in a rural setting in the south west. We start filming imminently, in about three weeks.
“We’re in the process now, we’ve got most of the main cast but we’re sort of casting some of the supporting roles.
“What’s really lovely is everything about the new scripts are brand new, and yet they sort of remain … it’s a juxtaposition really of having what you’re used to and what we really love about ‘Death in Paradise’, but having a new spin on it.
“I think it’s really unique and like a comfy blanket as well. I think it’s going to be, I hope ‘Death in Paradise’ fans are going to take to it straight away.”
The ‘Sanditon’ star will also be returning for the second instalment of the Jane Austen inspired historical drama where he will reprise his role as Tom Parker.

She said: “Jacqui’s scripts are brilliant, and they perfectly capture how difficult it can be for women juggling family life, whilst under pressure at work, making critical life or death decisions.

Scott Derrickson considering a sequel to The Black Phone

OHMYGOSSIP — Scott Derrickson is considering making a sequel to ‘The Black Phone’.
The 55-year-old filmmaker directed the horror flick, which has proved to be a big success at the box office and features Ethan Hawke as serial killer The Grabber, and revealed that he would be open to doing more with the characters.
Speaking to TheWrap, Scott said: “It’s not something that is innately exciting to me, in the case of this story. I’m interested in the characters we created, and I think there’s a tone to the movie that is unique and can be expanded upon.
“So possibly, we’ll see. You never know, but I’m certainly not closed off to the idea.”
Derrickson feels that the horror genre lends itself well to the creation of new franchises and ‘The Black Phone’ is proof that audiences will embrace fresh characters and ideas.
He said: “It seems to be the one genre that original movies will then be so successful that you get ‘A Quiet Place’ that had a hugely successful sequel. That’s pretty common.
“The mainstream, big budget franchises that we have are mostly older franchises… all these things that have been around for a very long time are still the big heavyweights in the theatres.”
Scott believes that the uplifting ending of the horror flick is another reason behind its impressive performance at the box office – with fans said to have cheered and applauded at the conclusion.
The ‘Doctor Strange’ director said: “To make a movie like that is the ultimate satisfaction in some ways. I didn’t necessarily think it would do that.
“But I knew that it was the most emotional movie that I had made and the only movie with a really uplifting ending I had ever made. I think that has a lot to do with that.”

Dan Trachtenberg put Prey stars through bootcamp

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Trachtenberg put the cast of ‘Prey’ through their paces with a bootcamp.
The 41-year-old director has helmed the latest movie in the ‘Predator’ franchise – a prequel to the four previous movies – and wanted to put the emphasis on action by putting stars such as Amber Midthunder through physical preparation to make sure they could cope as Comanche warriors.
Dan told SFX magazine: “I always think the ‘Predator’, ‘Alien’ and ‘Terminator’ movies, despite having different directors, all feel like they’re of their own little genre.
“I think it’s in large part, mainly thinking of ‘Aliens’ over ‘Alien’, the action-horror mash-up, but with a real hankering for the military aspects feeling more authentic than not.
“There’s always this authentic blend of where you’re rooted in the real world, then the introduction of the sci-fi element, that (John) McTiernan and (James) Cameron were so deft at.”
The filmmaker continued: “I sort of wanted to take the same approach and be as authentic as we possibly could in a totally different way, in a more Terrence Malick way.
“In our movie, we put the cast through bootcamp to make sure they could function as a unit. The Comanche were sort of the SEAL Team Six of the era, they were the most fierce warriors at the time. So they learned how to move through the forest as a unit and communicate with each other non-verbally.”
Meanwhile, Amber revealed that she had to study hard to master the Comanche language for her role as the warrior Naru.
Asked about the skills she needed for ‘Prey’, the 25-year-old actress said: “The Comanche language, which is not easy. I’m familiar with my Lakota language, and they are not all the same.
“So learning and becoming familiar with the Comanche language and very, very cool getting to learn it. It is a really hard language. There’s a lot of vowels so your mouth is open for a long time and it’s very specific.”
Read the full interview with the cast and crew of ‘Prey’ in the new issue of SFX magazine, which is out now.
