Ashley Cain’s grandmother died on first day of Celebrity SAS filming

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashley Cain’s grandmother died on the first day of filming for ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.
The 31-year-old star – whose eight-month-old daughter Azaylia passed away in April 2021 – suffered more heartbreak less than a year later and he found out the devastating news as he headed in for the first challenge on the grueling Channel 4 reality show.
He told OK! magazine: “On that first episode, I got a phone call from home telling me that I lost my grandma, then we had to go straight to the first challenge.
“She passed away and they didn’t air that…”
The retired footballer admitted he was given the option of sitting out the first task, but he didn’t want to make “any excuses”.
He explained: “I had the option to pull out the first day or continue the show.
“Afterwards, when I got my head around losing my grandma, I said ‘No, I’m here. I’ve got to do it properly.
“‘I don’t want to cheat. I don’t want people to make exceptions for me, because in life you don’t get exceptions made for you.
“‘No one cares about your excuses. So I’m not going to have any excuses right now, while I’m in here.’ ”
He described the whole situation as a “tough experience all round”, and noted that producers decided not to air the incredibly personal scenes.
Ashley took part in the show to “combat the trauma” of his daughter’s death, and he admitted it was difficult not being able to have his daily visits to her grave during filming.
He said: “It was it was hard. Yeah, it was very difficult in extremely different aspects. Well, I guess that’s what I wanted to.”
‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’ continues on Channel 4 on Sunday (11.09.22) at 9pm.

Bob Mortimer wants to lose weight to reduce cancer risk

OHMYGOSSIP — Bob Mortimer wants to lose weight to reduce his risk of cancer.
The 63-year-old comedian – who appears with friend and co-star Paul Whitehouse on their hit BBC show ‘Gone Fishing’ – discusses his health in the new series and explains that if an area around your waist measures over 102cm, you could be prone to more than 20 cancers.
Bob – who is around 104cm – told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “We looked into it because we wondered a little bit, but it was true 22 cancers come on to the table if, as a fella, your waist is over 102cm, and it’s less if you’re Asian, 96 if you’re Asian.”
In the first episode of the new series, Bob can be seen with a tape measure at breakfast and says: “I am going to make it my mission to get under 102.”
As reported by the Daily Mirror newspaper, it’s thought they are referring to a study by Dr. Heinz Freisling in 2017 for the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
Freisling’s study suggested that your waist size can be just as good at predicting someone’s cancer risk as their body mass index, which is a radio of weight to height.
Meanwhile, Bob claimed the upcoming episodes are “a little bit more joyous and funnier” than previous ones.
He added: “It’s probably the prettiest, most breathtaking in terms of the places that we visit and we visit the most interesting accommodation.
“We don’t catch many fish but those that we caftch are spectacular. I think this series is actually a little bit more joyous and funnier than some earlier episodes.
“We were a little bit more confident this time to do funny stuff.”
He explained that while his show with ‘Fast Show’ comedian Paul wasn’t initially meant to be a “comedy commission”, it has evolved.
He explained: “In this series, I think we’ve had the confidence to be a bit naughtier, a bit sillier, you know?”

Hugh Jackman made a request to star in The Son

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Jackman contacted Florian Zeller directly to ask for a role in ‘The Son’.
The 53-year-old actor stars in Zeller’s prequel to the Oscar-winning movie ‘The Father’ and yearned to play the role of Peter as soon as he read the script.
Speaking at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Hugh said: “When I read ‘The Son’ I had a feeling like a fire in my gut. It’s a scary feeling to have, but it’s beautiful. You rarely get it as an actor, that this part is right for you at this part of your life and you must get it.
“I said, I don’t know if you’re dancing with someone on this, and I don’t want to cut in on that dance.”
‘The Son’ has been adapted from one of Zeller’s stage plays and centres on 17-year-old Nicholas (Zen McGrath), whose growing struggle with his mental health begins to devastate the lives of his father Peter (Jackman) and mother Kate (Laura Dern). Vanessa Kirby also stars as Peter’s new partner Beth and Nicholas considers her arrival responsible for his deteriorating condition.
Zeller hadn’t met with any other actor and decided to cast ‘The Greatest Showman’ star immediately after a Zoom meeting.
The 43-year-old filmmaker explained: “After 8 minutes I offered him the part. I felt something really strong about why he was connected to the story, and that we could explore really emotional territories. And it was the best decision I ever made, because from then on it was the most fruitful journey.”
Meanwhile, Dern felt that the film’s release was timely as a result of the mental health “epidemic” coming out of the coronavirus pandemic.
She said: “It’s frightening. Even when you feel powerless, even when you feel alone in shame, guilt and blame, you can turn to so many who have been there before and may advise you. We all long to feel community in this larger conversation we must be having about mental health.”

Ian Wright lands first major film role

OHMYGOSSIP — Ian Wright has landed his first role in a major movie.
The football legend will make a cameo appearance in Daniel Kaluuya’s futuristic Netflix film ‘The Kitchen’.
The former Arsenal striker was approached directly by Gunners supporter Daniel to appear in the movie and jumped at the chance.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Daniel is a massive Gooner, and a huge Ian Wright fan. He’s written this incredible thriller, and wanted Ian to appear.
“So he got in touch, and Ian was delighted – and leapt at the chance.
“He hasn’t had any acting lessons but after years appearing on ‘Match of the Day’ – and having recently shot a Marks and Spencer’s gig – he’s actually a natural in front of the camera. He has about four scenes.”
Daniel – who narrated the Amazon ‘All or Nothing’ documentary about Arsenal – has written the screenplay for ‘The Kitchen’, which is set in London in 2044 and takes place in a bleak futuristic world where the gap between the rich and the poor has been stretched to its limits.
With all forms of social housing having been eradicated, London’s working classes have been forced to live in temporary accommodation on the outskirts of the city.
The story revolves around local residents Izi, who is desperately trying to find a way out, and 12-year-old Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family, as they battle to survive in a system that is stacked against them.
Izi will be played by ‘Top Boy’ actor Kane ‘Kano’ Robinson and Benji is to be portrayed by young newcomer Jedaiah Bannerman.

Love Island star Gemma Owen set for series all about footballers’ daughters

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Owen is reportedly being lined up for a show about footballers’ daughters.
The 19-year-old star – whose famous father is retired Liverpool and England legend Michael Owen – made her name on ‘Love Island’ and now ‘TOWIE’ and ‘Celebs Go Dating’ production company Lime Pictures is said to have another big project in mind.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “This is being billed as a one-of-a-kind show which will reveal what it is really like to be the daughter of a famous football star.
“Lime is developing the concept now and ITV has shown a real interest in it. Gemma is top of their casting wish list.
“Her dad Michael is one of England’s most famous footballing stars, and given her huge popularity since she appeared on ‘Love Island’ she is the person that they want signed up.”
She could be in good company, with Paul Gascoigne’s daughter Bianca also “approached about appearing” on the show.
The series is set to focus on the girls’ everyday lives with the “highs and lows” of having a famous footballer for a dad.
The source added: “The series will follow the women’s daily lives and will look at the highs and lows of being related to a big-name footballer.
“It will see the girls following their dreams and show the barriers they face when trying to make a name for themselves.
“Anyone who thinks being a footballer’s daughter is an easy ride is in for a shock.”
Meanwhile, the report comes after Gemma – who came second on ‘Love Island’ with partner Luca Bish – recently signed a six-figure deal with clothing brand PrettyLittleThings which will see her designing her own PLT collections and helping the brand to launch its new resale platform PLT Marketplace.
She said: “This really is a dream come true for me.”

Xochitl Gomez reveals Patrick Stewart advice on Doctor Strange 2 set

OHMYGOSSIP — Xochitl Gomez will “carry on” Sir Patrick Stewart’s advice from ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
The 16-year-old actress – who played America Chavez in the hit Marvel blockbuster – was grateful for the opportunity to star alongside the ‘X-Men’ legend as he made a crossover appearance in the movie reprising the role of Professor Charles Xavier.
Reflecting on the experience for Colliders Ladies Night, she said: “Patrick Stewart gave me great advice, and it’s something that I will like carry on with me because it was just something that I know I needed when I first came in…
“He was like, you know, just make sure to pay it forward, and you know, be very welcoming to newer people…
“His main thing was that like, sometimes you never know, the person who’s in front of you might be the hugest star, and you don’t even know it.”
Gomez admitted his tip “really hit her”, and she wants to be “available” for anyone who might need her during her acting career.
She added: “And I’m like, yeah, I mean, it’s always important to just be kind to everyone and, you know, treat everyone with kindness and respect people.
“And it just really hit me that it was like, yeah, whoever is coming into this and joining it, I really, I want to make sure that I reach out and let them know that I’m – you want to grab coffee? I’m, I’m available.”
Meanwhile, the teen star previously teased that there’s a lot more to come from her character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
She said: “I mean, I haven’t got told anything yet.
“But obviously there’s a lot more to America. I think we’ve only seen a brief introduction to America, and I’m very proud of how she’s been received and that people love her and want to see more of her.
“And it just really warms my heart, because I feel like she’s got lots of backstory that’s just kind of waiting to be told, and she’s got more to discover about herself and her powers.”

Strictly’s Gorka Marquez’s little girl is a dancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Gorka Marquez says his and Gemma Atkinson’s little girl is constantly dancing and would make a great actress.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional, 32, and the former ‘Hollyoaks’ star’s three-year-old daughter Mia is already showing signs of having the same talents as her famous parents, who met on the BBC One Latin and ballroom contest.
He told OK!: “Mia’s only three but ever since she learned to walk she’s never stopped dancing.
“Whenever there’s music on, she wants to dance. I was on the phone to her before this and she was like: ‘Look Papa,’ and she started dancing. It’s very cute.
“I think she will have a career in dancing, musical theatre or singing, and she loves acting. I think she gets a lot from Gemma [Atkinson].”
Gemma and Gorka got engaged in February 2021 and had planned to tie the knot later this year, but were forced to cancel their plans due to Gorka’s hectic touring schedule.
The Hits Radio DJ said in May: “Gorka is literally on tour all of this year. We’ve only got four days off together. He’s got the two ‘Strictly’ tours back to back, and then he’ll be going on Strictly in the autumn. We don’t even have a minute to sit down and begin making plans.”
The soap star – who has been in a relationship with Gorka since 2017 – previously revealed that the pair are planning to get married abroad in her fiancé’s native Spain because his family don’t speak English.
She said: “We’re obviously not going to do it this year given everything that is going on, the only thing we have agreed on so far is that we are going to do it abroad.. Gorka wants his family to be able to order drinks at the bar and understand the waiters. His family don’t speak English and my family don’t speak Spanish, so we’ve said that we’ll meet halfway.”

Kaye Adams ‘surprised’ to learn she needs two hearing aids

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams was “surprised” to learn that she needs two hearing aids.
The 59-year-old journalist had her “suspicions” when she made an appointment with the audiologist but initially thought her hearing was waning in just one ear.
She said: “You don’t go for a test without having your suspicions, so it didn’t come completely out of the blue. But I suppose what did come as a surprise was the advice to have two. In my head, I was reconciled to needing one, not two. It makes sense. And I think getting a good understanding of it all is a really big part of accepting it.”
The ‘Loose Women’ star is set to take part in this year’s edition of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ alongside the likes of 80s pop star Matt Goss and ex-‘Corrie’ actress Kym Marsh but Kaye believes it will be after she completed her run on the BBC ballroom competition that she manages to get her hearing aids fitted.
She told The Mirror: “Life has just become extremely busy, so realistically I think it’ll be after ‘Strictly’ by the time I get them. I’m totally reconciled to it and it’s not for any vanity reason, it’s just down to practicalities and timing.”
Kaye – who has been in a relationship with tennis coach Ian Campbell since 1995 and has daughters Charley, 19, and 15-year-old Bonnie with him – went on to explain that although a hearing aid would be more “discreet” than the earpiece she wears while presenting, there is still a “stigma” around hearing loss because of how much it is associated with “old age” even though it can come at any time.
She added: “I actually had a fitting at my appointment where I was able to hear the difference and it was really interesting. On TV I wear an earpiece anyway and, if anything, I felt like they were more discreet. I think there’s so much negativity around hearing aids that doesn’t really exist around other things like specs, for example, which are considered cool.
“I think hearing loss can be associated quite a lot with old age, even though there are loads of reasons you could have it at any age.
“And, actually, when you start to understand it a bit more and how your own experience can be improved, you don’t have that knee-jerk reaction against them.”

Prue Leith is ‘more likely’ to use a cake recipe by Mary Berry than one by Paul Hollywood

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Prue Leith is “more likely” to use a cake recipe by Dame Mary Berry than one written by Paul Hollywood.
The 82-year-old chef replaced Mary on ‘The Great British Bake-Off’ back in 2017 and now stars alongside long-standing judge and fellow chef Paul Hollywood on the hit Channel 4 baking show but mused that the “great debate” about Victoria sponge recipes is always in the creaming method.
She said: “I’ll tell you what the great debate is always about with Victoria sandwiches – do you make it using the creaming method? Do you cream the sugar and the butter together? You either chuck all the ingredients in together, or you cream it first.”
However, her co-star Paul,56,- who has published a string of bestselling baking books over the course of his career – insisted that “either method” is acceptable before Prue interjected that she belives Mary’s method is “heavier” than most methods.
He said: “‘You can use either method. I’ve never seen the difference between the two and I’ve tried both. The creaming method is a good method to get into because it gets you used to making other cakes. In my book I use the creaming method but, to be honest, if I’m making one at home I just chuck it all in.”
In the joint interview, Prue told the Radio Times: “I always think the all-in-one method is Mary Berry’s method. I’d like to do a scientific test,’ she said. ‘I think the all-in-one method is a little heavier, a little more solid. But I’ll tell you what, Paul Hollywood, I probably lift up Mary Berry’s cake book a little more than I do yours. I use you for bread and Mary for cakes!”
‘The Great British Bake Off’ is set to return to Channel 4 for a new series on Tuesday 13 September at 8pm.

Nina Wadia would return to EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Nina Wadia “would go back” to ‘EastEnders.’
The 53-year-old actress starred as Zainab Masood on the BBC One soap opera from 2007 until 2013 and explained that even though it is almost a decade since she left, she still gets recognised for the role and would return because the programme is “very dear” to her.
She said: “I still get recognised. That hasn’t gone away. I left nearly a decade ago but when people meet me they say ‘Would you go back?’ I would go back, of course. I had so much fun. I would never say never, because you do not know where the next job is coming from. ‘EastEnders’ is very dear to me and I made so many friends there.”
However, the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star – who has been married to composer Raiomond Mirza since 1998 and has children Tia, 18, and 15-year-old Aidan with him – went on to explain that her time on ‘EastEnders’ eventually got “too much” for her because of how much time she spent away from her family.
She told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “It got too much for me. I wanted to do something different and freshen up again. It was a combination of that and making sure I spent a bit more time with my kids, because it’s a hard job to do as a parent – you spend a lot of time away from your family. My son was around seven and my daughter had just started her teenage years and I think they need you more when they get to that age. When they’re very little you can get a nanny or they can go to nursery but when they’re older, they start wanting you.”
Away from the soap, the ‘Outlaws’ actress has also served as a panelist on the ITV lunchtime chat show ‘Loose Women’ on a sporadic basis between 2005 and 2016 and would be “open” to a comeback but believes it would be a “very different experience” because of how much more honest she is these days.
She added: “I haven’t done it in years but I’m open to it and I think if I did it again it would be a very different experience. When I was younger, I felt reserved about what I could or couldn’t say but I’m at that age now where I don’t really care. I’m a bit more honest and a bit blunder!”

Jamie Campbell Bower wants to be a Bond villain

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Campbell Bower hopes to play a Bond villain.
The 33-year-old actor portrayed the antagonist Vecna in the fourth season of ‘Stranger Things’ and has revealed that he wants to be a bad guy in a future 007 movie.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jamie said: “I’m gonna be honest with you Josh, I’m gunning for James Bond. Not to play Bond, but to be a villain in Bond.”
Jamie explained that he wanted to be the first actor under the age of 30 to play a 007 nemesis and was jealous that Rami Malek got to star as villain Safin in ‘No Time To Die’.
He recalled: “And I remember before Rami did the film, I was like, ‘I’m gonna be the first person under 30 to do it’ and then Rami comes along and just like kills it and I’m like, ‘Dammit, I wanted to do that.’
Jamie has previously discussed how he felt “in charge” playing the sadistic Vecna on the Netflix hit ‘Stranger Things’.
He said: “As an actor, you’re sometimes fortunate enough to be given a position of power within scenes.
“It taps into a very interesting side of the human psyche, which is, ‘I’m in charge now’.
“It’s quite an enjoyable moment to go through – obviously there were times where I felt bad for my fellow team members. So we’d make sure they knew that it was me inside there, a gentle touch of an arm or just to look in their eye to say, ‘It’s me by the way, it’s OK’.”

David F. Sandberg denies Shazam sequel reshoot rumours

OHMYGOSSIP — David F. Sandberg has denied claims that reshoots are taking place on ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie has been delayed until March 2023 but David confirmed that the shift isn’t related to post-production changes on the blockbuster.
Answering questions from fans on Instagram, David said: “I’ve seen reports that ‘Shazam’ is being ‘retooled’ but it’s not true. The cut has been locked for quite some time and we’re doing final mix, colour and vfx right now.
“Everyone is happy with the film and we’re not going to work longer on it just because of the release date shift.
“They figured Aquaman’s previous date was better for us and that’s the reason we moved.”
Sandberg concluded: “Definitely not shooting more.”
The sequel will see Zachary Levi reprise his role as the titular character while Dame Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu will play villains Hespera and Kalypso respectively – which was beyond the wildest dreams of the director.
David, 41, said: “I mean, it’s a dream come true, first of all. I’ve been watching movies with Lucy and Helen, and now I get to work with them – which is just amazing.
“They’re just the best. When we had these parts, we were like, ‘Let’s try and get the biggest and best actresses we can.’ And we were able to, because they said yes. It’s amazing.”
The movie is a sequel to the 2019 flick ‘Shazam!’ and Sandberg explained that a second film was never in doubt.
He said: “The first movie just came out, and we were already having meetings about what’s the sequel going to be and trying to figure that out. Didn’t feel like there was ever a point of like, oh, is there going to be a sequel or not?”

One Foot in the Grave could become a West End musical

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘One Foot in the Grave’ could become a West End musical.
The classic BBC sitcom – which starred Richard Wilson as cantankerous pensioner Victor Meldrew and Annette Crosbie as his long-suffering wife Margaret – originally aired from 1990 until 2000 and could be making its way to the stage, along with a musical adaptation of ITV mystery drama series ‘Jonathan Creek.’
Creator and writer David Renwick said: “A few years ago I was approached by a theatrical production company about a ‘One Foot In The Grave’ transfer and a ‘Jonathan Creek’ adaptation.”
However, while the ‘Jonathan Creek’ adaptation initially had interest from the series’ original stars Caroline Quentin and Alan Davies, the ‘One Foot in the Grave’ production would be seeking new names to slot into the roles of Victor and Margaret and David drew upon the ‘Only Fools and Horses’ musical as a TV adaptation that was a “triumph.”
Speaking on ‘One Foot in the Podcast’, David added: “Alan and Caroline were very up for it, so that was a huge plus compared with ‘One Foot In The Grave’ where, of course, we’d be looking for new actors to take those roles on. One of the crucial things with ‘One Foot in the Grave’ is how to cast Victor and Margaret. Margaret wasn’t so much of a problem because I thought the ideal person to play Margaret would have been Annette’s daughter Selina [Griffiths] She sounds exactly like her and could replicate those mannerisms.
“Victor…we did try a few names out. Paul Whitehouse playing granddad in the ‘Only Fools’ musical is a tour-de-force and that worked really well. That is an example of a TV- to-stage transfer that was a triumph. Casting can be the life or death of any project. I don’t think we tried out many names. People like Harry Enfield who I think was busy.”
While there are no concrete plans for the shows as yet, David added that the scripts have been written and he hopes that the show could come to life “one day.”
He added: “The scripts sit there – maybe one day, who knows.”

EastEnders star Nigel Harman joins cast of Casualty

OHMYGOSSIP — Nigel Harman has joined the cast of ‘Casualty’ for a new storyline.
The 49-year-old actor – who is known for having starred as Dennis Rickman on BBC soap opera ‘EastEnders’ between 2003 and 2005 – has reportedly signed a one-year contract and will take on the role of “lovable rogue” Max on the BBC medical drama.
A TV insider told the Daily Star: “Nigel has signed a one-year contract with the show. It’s really exciting. Producers are thrilled to have such a big name joining the cast.
“Max is really going to ruffle feathers. He is a loveable rogue who isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. The writers have got some really big storylines planned for this character. He’s going to be at the centre of the action.”
‘Casualty’ bosses are said to be hoping the addition of Nigel will boost shows ratings.
Nigel will be joining a cast of fellow ‘EastEnders’ alums including Charles Venn and Shaheen Jafaregholi but his other notable roles include ‘Downton Abbey’, ‘Hotel Babylon’ and ‘Mount Pleasant’.
In a previous interview on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ Nigel discussed his time on ‘EastEnders’, after his character was embroiled an affair with adopted sister Sharon Watts – played by Letitia Dean.
Host Ruth Langsford said: “The storyline was quite shocking at the time, wasn’t it? You and Sharon…”
Nigel replied: “I think so, I think they worked it out that… I can’t really remember, but yes she was my adopted sister so I think legally it’s OK but we got married and all of that but – were we having a baby? Was she pregnant then?”

Phillip Schofield ‘never forgets how lucky’ he is after celebrating 20 years on This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield “never forgets how lucky” he is after celebrating 20 years on ‘This Morning.’
The 60-year-old star was chosen to front the long-running daytime show as a replacement for John Leslie back in 2002 and co-host Holly Willoughby opened the show on Tuesday (06.09.22) by surprising Phil with the news that it was a milestone anniversary.
Holly said: “We couldn’t start today’s show without mentioning something very special. Actually, it really is a huge achievement. Yesterday, we were doing our meeting, it’s always at the end of the show and it’s like, ‘What’s coming on tomorrow’s show’ and the producers went, ‘Did you know, it’s 20 years exactly since Phil officially started presenting on ‘This Morning?’ 20 years!”
The former children’s TV presenter then exclaimed that the time has gone so fast but admitted he “never forgets” how lucky he is because he didn’t audition for the job in the first place and was never formally offered the role.
He responded: “I didn’t realise! It’s gone like that!’ Wow, thank you, I haven’t heard anything about the auditions… no one’s ever told me I’ve got the job! I never forget how lucky I am, so thank you very much.”
The former children’s TV presenter – who initially fronted ‘This Morning’ alongside Fern Britton until she was replaced by Holly, 41, back in 2009 – was then shown a video montage of clips from his first day on the programme presenting a segment about the first series of ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’.
He said: “Oh my god, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that! That must have been the first series of ‘I’m a Celeb’… that’s mad. I was nervy as well. Fern [Britton] was so lovely looking after me!”
Holly – who at the time Phillip started on ‘This Morning’ was a model who had just begun her presenting career on CBBC – remarked that it was “weird” to see the old clips because he looked like the “new boy.”
She said: “Do you know what’s weird about that? Seeing you as the new boy. That’s so weird because it just feels like you’ve been here forever!”
‘This Morning’ airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
