The Pope’s Exorcist sequel ‘in development’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Pope’s Exorcist 2’ is reportedly in development.
The horror blockbuster – which stars Russell Crowe as real life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth – has so far made $52 million at the worldwide box office from an $18 million budget, and now Sony is pushing on with plans for a sequel.
As reported by Bloody Disgusting, Crowe is expected to return as Father Amorth, although no further details are available at the moment.
The 59-year-old actor recently admitted he “got caught up” in his new role as the chief exorcist for the Vatican in the horror flick and explained that taking on the role of a real person was just “perfect” for him as a movie star.
He told ScreenRant: “I did ‘The Mummy’ with Tom Cruise nine years ago. So, I did dabble a little bit in the genre, but what caught me up man was the reality and the truth of this guy’s life.
“This is a real man, Father Gabriele Amorth, he had this incredible life with all these different experiences, but left behind 12 books that document his first person experience as the chief Exorcist for the Vatican.
“From an actor’s perspective, to be handed a treasure chest like that was just perfect.”
Crowe starred alongside 11-year-old Peter DeSouza-Feighoney in the movie and admitted his young co-star “scared” the adults on set with his performance.
He added: “I think Peter was fantastic. As a young actor, little boy, it’s his first ever job. It was interesting to watch him develop, because he’s obviously very nervous and stuff to start with.
“Over time, the course of production, I think he began to relish the days that he had the makeup on, and he was doing the extreme stuff, because of the sense of power he brought with him when he came onto the set.
“And he was scaring all the adults. Some days you’d be just dressed as the normal kid doing the scenes prior to possession, and I would notice you’d be a bit glum. And I would say to him, ‘You okay? What’s up?’ And he’d say, ‘I just prefer being the demon.’ ”

Beetlejuice 2 confirmed by Warner Bros.

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Beetlejuice 2′ is officially in development.
The news was confirmed during Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon 2023 panel on Tuesday (25.04.23), following reports that Jenna Ortega is rumoured to be in the running to star in the upcoming sequel.
The actress stars in Tim Burton’s Netflix series ‘Wednesday’ – which is based around the Addams Family character Wednesday Addams – and last month, The Hollywood Reporter suggested she could be taking on another project with links to the director.
Burton helmed the 1988 film – about a couple of ghosts who enlist a spirit named Beetlejuice to help them rid their home of its new inhabitants – and the report suggested he will be back to take charge of the sequel which is now expected to begin filming in London in early May or June.
Rumours of ‘Beetlejuice 2’ have been swirling for years but they intensified in 2022 with reports original stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder could be returning, and now it’s been suggested that Ortega could be lined up to play the daughter of Winona’s character.
However, Burton recently sidestepped rumours suggesting he might be in line to direct the next ‘Beetlejuice’ movie.
When asked whether he would be involved in a sequel, he told Deadline: “Nothing is out of the question”.
He added: “I only know if I’m making a film when I’m actually on the set shooting. I try to go back to the root of everything. It springs from a seed and then it grows, rather than out of these statements. I am working on ideas and things but it’s all very early days. We’ll set how it goes. How’s that for a non-answer?”
Last May, it was rumoured that Johnny Depp would be making his post-trial film comeback by starring in ‘Beetlejuice 2’.
Fans flooded social media with the claim after they noticed the 59-year-old actor’s name seemed to appear on a call sheet found when they searched for the movie on Google.
Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B were reported in March 2022 to be making the sequel for Warner Bros., though there was no confirmed news on casting or plot at the time.
In the original, Michael played the titular role, with the cast also including Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis.
The cult classic followed Alec’s Adam Maitland and his wife Barbara (Geena) who die in a car accident and find themselves haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house.
When Charles and Delia Deetz (Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara) move in with their daughter Lydia, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success and their efforts attract a spirit called Beetlejuice, whose help quickly becomes dangerous for everyone involved.

Linda Nolan has started planning her funeral

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Nolan has picked out her coffin and funeral songs after learning her cancer has spread to her brain.
The 64-year-old star was first diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2005 before being told she was tumour-free a year later but revealed last month that the hip cancer she had been diagnosed with in 2017 had spread to her brain.
Linda told the Mirror: “Brian [Linda’s husband] organised his funeral and it was amazing.
“Bernie [Linda’s sister] arranged hers. It’s easier for people left behind. I’ve gone into it a little bit. A Neil Sedaka song, Our Last Song Together. And I know the funeral people I’m going to use.
“Brian’s coffin was like a flight case, with ‘This way up’, ‘Fragile’ on it.
“Our auntie had a beautiful coffin with pictures of us around it.
“Then Maureen said, ‘Look at this coffin, it was made for you, it’s pink glitter’.”
When asked if she had chosen the pink coffin, she confirmed: “Absolutely. I am the blingy Nolan.”
While Linda is trying to remain hopeful, she admitted she fears that death is coming for her.
She said: “I think it’s a one-way trip now.
“I am positive, but I have my moments when I slide down the wall in a heap.
“What happens? Is it dark, are you on your own? I’m frightened of the unknown and being on my own, I have always been with people.
“I’m frightened to cry in case I don’t stop sometimes.”
And, Linda admitted it is particularly difficult as her sister Bernie died 10 years ago after her own cancer spread to her brain.
She said: “Bernie had cancer in her brain when she died 10 years ago this July, aged 52.
“They keep telling me not to compare my illness with Bernie’s, everyone is different. I remember with Bernie, she phoned me and said ‘It’s gone to my brain, ‘I’m f*****’. At the time there was only radiotherapy, and then it didn’t work. But for me there is a new drug, and hope.”

Alec Baldwin working on Rust documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Alec Baldwin is working on a documentary about the ‘Rust’ shooting.
In October 2021, the 65-year-old actor and producer was holding a Colt .45 handgun during rehearsals when it accidentally discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
Now, Baldwin – who resumed shooting the movie at Yellowstone ranch in Montana last week – is working on a documentary about the film with ‘Last Days in Vietnam’ and ‘Ethel’ director Rory Kennedy, Variety reports.
This is the second documentary about the tragic incident, as director Rachel Mason and producer Julee Metz are also shooting a documentary about Hutchins with the cooperation of her husband Matthew Hutchins.
Production on ‘Rust’ is expected to finish by the end of May.
Attorney Melina Spadone said: “The production will continue to utilize union crew members and will bar any use of working weapons and any form of ammunition. Live ammunition is — and always was — prohibited on set. Each and every one of us is wholeheartedly dedicated to sharing Halyna’s vision and paying tribute to her artistry.”
Souza said, “Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team is joining former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.”

Ben Schwartz says working with Nicolas Cage in Renfeld was ‘awesome’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Schwartz says it was “awesome” working with Nicolas Cage on ‘Renfield’.
The ex ‘Parks and Rec’ star loved working with the “incredible” star – who plays Count Dracula in the Chris McKay-helmed movie – alongside Awkwafina, 34, and Nicholas Hoult, 33, who plays the titular character.
The 41-year-old actor told HeyUGuys.com: “He’s so into it. Before the scene, he would go up to the side and get himself real pumped up, and then he’d walk on and it’d be so intimidating. He was amazing.
“So, he’s crazy that guy that I saw, you know, do ‘Raising Arizona’ when I was a kid is still so committed to doing these movies. He’s incredible. He gives it everything he has. It’s awesome.”
Ben – who plays mobster Teddy Lobo – admitted that his role was tough as he needed to be both the villain and funny.
He said: “It was so fun. I think it was all on the page and all what I had to do like, they had the drum part there and all I had to do is kind of push into the comedy a little bit more.
“It’s a fine thread to needle where it’s like, let’s not get too waka waka and let’s not get too serious.
“When you have those moments of pathos and you have those moments of this is a really bad dude, you feel it. And then on the inverse, when you have the moments of comedy, it’s just you know, it breaks. It gives you some levity in terms of what’s going on in the movie.”
The ‘Space Force’ star was allowed the “amazing” chance to flex his well-tuned improv muscle with the ‘Pig’ star.
Ben said: “So even in the audition for the role, if it’s not on offer, and I’m auditioning, I will ask the director, ‘Hey, is it okay to play with the words or whatever?’
“And there are some directors who are like, ‘No, it has to be word perfect’, and then there are some directors like, ‘Please, yes, we’re figuring out this character like anything you could do to like to add.’
“And so I love that and with Nic Cage, I even got to improvise when we’re doing scenes. I would lean him one way and he would follow me and he’d be amazing.
“So it’s like heaven. My improv background has really helped me int the projects I’ve done. It’s been really exciting.”

Joanna Page regrets having fallopian tubes cut

OHMYGOSSIP — Joanna Page regrets having her fallopian tubes cut after her fourth baby.
The 46-year-old actress – who has children Eva, 10, Kit, seven, Noah, six, and Boe, 16 months, with her husband James Thornton – took drastic measures to ensure her fourth child was her last, when she decided to have tubal ligation.
She told Woman and Home magazine: “When I was having my third, my obstetrician asked me about contraception plans and I said, ‘I’m having a baby, I’ll probably not have sex forever’.
“After Boe, the same obstetrician asked again and I’m quite impulsive so I said, ‘OK, you can cut my tubes’. Then, last month, as soon as I had my first period, I thought, ‘What a waste! I want another baby. I want another small one’.
“Deep down, I know that should be it. I’m too old now and it’s not fair on the others, but it’s the finality.”
Tubal ligation involves the fallopian tubes being cut, tied or blocked to permanently prevent pregnancy.
Joanna also revealed she and her husband have slept in separate bedrooms for 10 years, since they started having children.
She said: “Intimacy is important, but James and I don’t get any time together. For 10 years, we’ve slept with the children. Noah is the only one that now sleeps in his own bed.
“Eva and Kit are in with James and I’ve been in the spare room with Boe for the past year.
“James has been so understanding. He said, ‘It’s absolutely fine. This is a moment we’re going through where everything is about the kids’.”

Jamie Oliver credits cooking with saving his life

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Oliver says cooking saved his life.
The celebrity chef – who has children Poppy, 21, Daisy, 20, Petal, 14, Buddy, 12 and River, six, with wife Jools – struggled with dyslexia when he was growing up but said he knew he could always rely on cooking for a career.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Cooking genuinely saved my life. I would have been utterly miserable without it.
“Although school work was really hard, I was good at other stuff and that meant my mental health didn’t suffer.
“I knew there would always be a chef’s job for me and I would always be all right.”
Now, Jamie, 47 – who claims he didn’t read a novel until he was 35 – has written a book ‘Billy And The Giant Adventure’.
He said: “As a child I loved story time but I couldn’t read myself.
“I wasn’t lazy or stupid, I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t read a novel until I was 35.
“Cooking always came so naturally but writing and releasing a children’s book has been about celebrating everything I’ve struggled with.”
“I’ve always tried to put the kids to bed as often as possible and read to them.
“A few years ago it got to the stage where their reading was better than mine, so they asked me to make up a story from my head, which I did.
“In typical Jamie style, though, I’d forget where I was, so I started to record the stories on my phone.”

Paul O’Grady’s secret wife speaks out

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady’s secret wife has joked about their successful showbiz marriage.
The 67-year-old TV star – who died in bed last month from a cardiac arrhythmia – tied the knot with bisexual Teresa Fernandes, 73, in 1977 and “forgot to divorce” for 28 years.
Teresa told MailOnline: “We probably enjoyed one of the longest marriages in showbiz! Paul was a very special, close friend of mine, but we didn’t really love each other.
“I was lesbian and he was gay so the marriage would never have worked but we had a great time as friends and even though it was almost 50 years ago I have great memories.
“Of course I was sad when I heard Paul had died, he was always a good friend but I hadn’t seen him since the early 1980s.
“We just drifted apart at around the time he started to get famous, but I didn’t go to the funeral because it’s too far for me to travel.”
Speaking about the marriage, which she says was never consummated, Teresa said: “My mother was chasing me to get married, but my papers were always in order, I was never going to be kicked out.
“I even have a British passport now because I lived in the UK for so long but yes, my mother was always asking ‘when are you getting married you are almost 28’ so in stepped Paul to help me out and keep my mother happy.
“I told Paul what my mother was saying and he just turned to me and said ‘Look, if you need to get married, I will help you out’ and a few months later we were in the registry office at Harrow Road with friends getting married.
“We then had a little party to celebrate afterwards with some of his friends and mine and then that was it. We both carried on with our jobs but we never lived together or slept together.
“I told my mother I was married and she was delighted, we had intended to go to Portugal and have the ceremony but in the end the plans changed as Paul couldn’t get the time off work but a friend of his went so he didn’t lose the money for the ticket.
“My mother never met Paul and I think she would have figured out something wasn’t right but as far as she knew I was married.
“Paul told me he had never been married but he said he had a daughter from when he was younger and at first, I thought he was joking when he offered to marry me, but he really did help me out.”
Paul and Teresa finally divorce in 2005.
She said: “Of course I knew all those years I was married but I just didn’t really think about as I went on with my life.
“Paul always made me laugh and I always used to say he would make someone very happy and he was a lovely man, we had such a good friendship and it’s shame we drifted apart.”

Eurovision helped Rylan Clark get over divorce

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark credits the Eurovision Song Contest for helping him get over his divorce.
The 34-year-old presenter had to pull out of covering the annual competition for the BBC in 2021 because he was so devastated by his split from Dan Neal, but flying out to Italy for last year’s musical extravaganza was exactly what he needed to feel back to himself again.
He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “Last year I needed to get away from the UK and the Eurovision bubble was perfect for that.
“It was what I needed on a personal level. Being there was a full circle moment for me. It was like, ‘I’m back, I’m ready to go’.
“That’s why Eurovision is so important to me. If you cut me open, it’s there.”
But while Rylan enjoyed flirting with the locals in Italy, he’s vowed to behave himself this year because there’s more chance of him being recognised in Liverpool, where Eurovision will take place next month.
He said: “I can’t go s******* it about – I’ve got to be on my best behaviour. I’ll be pining for the nights out I usually have. But I’ll still go out.”
The ‘Supermarket Sweep’ presenter understands why so many people are passionate about Eurovision because of the way it draws people together for a few hours of “escapism”.
He said: “It gives people escapism. It’s one week of the year where we can all be part of this family.
“When you’re there, it doesn’t matter what country you’re from.
“If you’re gay or straight, if you’re black or white – none of that matters. Everyone is just together.”
Rylan will commentate at the semi-finals for BBC One, which will broadcast on 9 and 11 May.

Shaun Ryder’s hip ‘popped out’ in I’m A Celebrity… camp

OHMYGOSSIP — Shaun Ryder was left in agony when his replacement hip “popped out” on ‘I’m A Celebrity… South Africa’.
The Happy Mondays singer – who was runner up on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2010 – had only been in the all stars camp for two days when he suffered the medical mishap while sleeping.
But the 60-year-old musician “didn’t want” to see a doctor so just “pushed” the joint back in himself.
Shaun – who had his hip replaced in summer 2019 – said: “I had been in there two nights, and boom, f****** hell, my hip had come out.
“I pushed it back in myself. I didn’t want to see a doctor. Paul Burrell helped me out, he was a professional.”
The ‘Step On’ hitmaker was delighted to be back in the jungle.
He said: “I wouldn’t have swapped it for the world.”
Shaun has admitted he can barely remember anything about his first stint on the show.
He laughed: “I don’t learn anything because I don’t retain anything. That’s my problem!
“All I can remember about the (Bushtucker) Trials is eating a lot of penises, testicles and eyeballs!”
When pressed for his “best memory” of the show, Shaun added: “The camp life. I am not usually a sociable person but I enjoyed chatting to everyone around the campfire.”
The veteran rocker admitted he’d love to come face-to-face with John Lydon – who infamously quit the show in 2004 – on the all-stars programme.
When asked to name his ideal campmate he said: “My life hero, Johnny Lydon.
“He was the reason why I said ‘yes’ originally. I am keeping my fingers crossed he will be in camp.
“Anyone I don’t want to see again? I am not telling you in case you make sure she is there!”

Dexter Fletcher took Bohemian Rhapsody job to know what to not do on Rocketman

OHMYGOSSIP — Dexter Fletcher was advised to step in to direct ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ so he knew what to avoid on ‘Rocketman’.
The 57-year-old filmmaker stepped in to helm the last few weeks on the Queen biopic after Bryan Singer was fired and though he had begun pre-production on the Sir Elton John movie, producer Matthew Vaughn could see the benefit of him working on both projects.
Dexter – who was only credited as executive producer on ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ because of DGA rules – told The Hollywood Reporter: “The truth was that I’d been involved with Bohemian Rhapsody a couple of years earlier when it was at Sony, with a different actor attached. I got a long way through the process, in fact, and I was pretty much in the first week of pre-production when it fell apart.
“So I knew that material well, and I knew that Queen knew me, which was obviously very important for them because Freddie [Mercury] was their friend and dearest loved one…
“So when they had issues there, that opportunity came. I had just made ‘Eddie the Eagle’ for Fox, so Fox also knew me and understood how I worked. My friend Matt Vaughn brokered that idea as well.
“Matt had me in pre-production on ‘Rocketman’, and he candidly said to me, ‘You should go and do this, because then you can see what they’re doing and make sure we don’t do it on ‘Rocketman.’
“I knew they were different films, but the opportunity to stretch my legs as it were and have a foot in that world was too good to be true in a lot of ways. It was a real gift.
“So I committed as much as I could and took the time out of prep for ‘Rocketman’, but Matthew Vaughn really gave me the trust and the faith to do that and not undermine what we were doing so importantly on ‘Rocketman’.”
The former ‘Press Gang’ actor is still “somewhat bemused” that Taron Egerton didn’t receive an Oscar nomination for the movie, particularly after Rami Malek won for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Austin Butler was shortlisted for ‘Elvis’.
He said: “I don’t have the answer for that. I’m somewhat bemused as well, but that’s the nature of it, isn’t it? It’s what the competition was that year, and what other things were going on at the time.
“These things don’t necessarily follow an understandable or regulated pattern, and taste is subjective.
“So I’m not the best person to answer this because I genuinely believe that he should have been nominated, and I don’t think I’m alone in that opinion. So it’s a difficult one.”
Dexter also worked with the actor on ‘Eddie the Eagle’ and the pair are planning to make a third movie together.
The director revealed: “Taron and I actually have an agreement that we’re gonna do three films together, so we’ve gotta find a third one. We don’t know what that is yet, but there’s something out there for us.”

Hugh Grant turned down ‘big blockbuster’ films like Dungeons and Dragons

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Grant rejected “big blockbuster special-effects-type” films before agreeing to do ‘Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’.
The 62-year-old actor – who is best known for his roles in the ‘Bridget Jones’ and ‘Paddington’ films – portrays Forge Fitzwilliam, an ambitious rogue and con artist in the fantasy comedy heist flick, and he found it to be unexpectedly “charming and funny”.
Asked about it being an unusual role for him, he told SFX magazine: “I suppose I was a bit surprised as well. I have occasionally been sent big blockbuster special-effects-type things, but they’ve never struck a chord in me.
“So I wasn’t expecting much, but I found it completely charming and funny.”
The ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ star also confessed to being “slightly frightened” of his co-star Michelle Rodriguez, who plays a barbarian who was exiled from the Uthgardt Elk Tribe, but says she’s “a good hugger”.
Asked what he thought of his co-stars, he replied: “I’m slightly frightened of Michelle. I don’t know why.
“I think she’s gonna beat me up. No one has ever worn a costume better than she wears that costume. She’s from the streets of New York and I’m from the cloisters of Oxford … So she frightens me, but she couldn’t be nicer. Good hugger.”
The flick also stars the likes of Chris Pine, Rege-Jean Page and Justice Smith.

‘He taught us to eat fire’: McFly pay tribute to Paul O’Grady

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady taught McFly to eat fire.
The ‘Obviously’ hitmakers – comprising Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd – have partied with the likes of Liam Gallagher and Sir Rod Stewart in the past but don’t think they’ve ever had “crazier” nights than with the late ‘For the Love of Dogs’ host, who died last month.
Danny told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “We had two crazy nights out with Paul, ending up at a burlesque club. We got more and more excited and more and more drunk… it was amazing. He completely outpartied me.”
Dougie added: “Paul was your burlesque go-to man. He taught us all how to eat fire, too… it burns and it’s terrifying!”
Drummer Harry praised Paul for always being genuine and sincere and admitted they were grateful to count the Lily Savage star as one of their few showbiz friends.
He said: “A lot of celebrities are extroverts but as we’re quite quiet, we’ve not made many celebrity mates along the way.
“Paul was one we really had a chemistry with. We met on his TV show and he always made us laugh. He was genuinely interested in us.”
Paul shot to fame as pioneering drag queen Lily Savage in the 1980s and made regular appearances as her right up until the early 2000s, when he abandoned his alter ego completely in favour of carving out a career on screen as himself with his own self-titled chat show.
And Harry Hill recently praised the TV legend for doing “his own thing” when it came to his career.
He said: “He was his own thing. And then he rested his own thing. He created a whole scene, he didn’t come up through the comedy clubs that I came up in. He created a new thing and he was…I was full of admiration for him because he killed off that Lily Savage thing that everyone loved.
“I don’t know what he thought about it but maybe he realised it didn’t have the long-term [appeal]. And the fact about Paul O’Grady…what people loved about him, and what I loved about him, is that not just that he was funny but you loved him being himself which you probably never would have got with Lily Savage.
“This is why everyone is so kind of shocked and upset about it. He was a one-off, there’s no other word for it.”

Dani Dyer ‘petrified’ about having twins

OHMYGOSSIP — Dani Dyer is “petrified” of life with twins.
The former ‘Love Island’ star already has two-year-old son Santiago with former partner Sammy Kimmence and is now expecting two girls with footballer Jarrod Bowen and while she’s excited about expanding her family, she’s not ready for the extra level of exhaustion.
She told Fabulous magazine: “It’s such a blessing and I’m so grateful, but I’m not going to lie, I’m petrified!
“Sleep deprivation is the worst. It’s a form of torture in some countries and I can totally see why.
“You’re just so tired. Santi was a nightmare for a good five months. I used to rock him to sleep and think: ‘I am never doing this again.’
“It’s going to be tough, but I know it’ll get better when they settle. Whereas in the beginning [with Santi], I thought: ‘I’m never going to sleep again. This is it.’”
The 26-year-old beauty admitted she’s found this pregnancy tough because she’s also had to juggle the needs of her little boy.
She said: “The first trimester was really difficult. I was absolutely exhausted.
“I felt so sick and I couldn’t really eat much. One day, I cried because I was too tired to fold a towel!
“But it’s hard because you can’t say to your toddler: ‘I can’t be your mum today, I don’t feel great. Off you go.’
“Everyone told me: ‘Dan, enjoy your first pregnancy, because your second is going to be so different’.
“And it is, because you’re looking after someone else and if you’re tired, you still have to get up and go.”
Among Dani’s concerns about having twins is being able to tell them apart, so she’s come up with a few ideas to help.
She laughed: “I follow a lady on Instagram who still doesn’t know which baby is which.
“I know I’m going to keep their hospital bands on with their names, baby one and baby two.
“Then I’m going to paint one of their toenails. I’ll write in my notes: ‘This baby is called… and has a pink nail.’ Otherwise, they’ll go years and they won’t know who they really are.
“In the beginning I think I’ll dress them the same. But then as they get older, I want them to have their own identity, even if it’s the same jumper in different colours.”

‘Give him a limp?’: Matthew Rhys failed to win over James Bond producers with character suggestions

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Rhys missed out on playing James Bond after he suggested the suave spy had “a limp” or an “eye patch”.
The 48-year-old actor was invited to meet the Broccoli family, who produce the franchise, after Piers Brosnan had left the franchise but Daniel Craig hadn’t been cast, and things went badly wrong when the ‘Perry Mason’ star was asked what he would do with the character.
Asked if he had ever been approached about the iconic movie series, he recalled to The Times magazine: “I do remember a time just before Daniel [Craig] got it.
“[I went to the Broccolis’ office by Hyde Park], this incredible office, looks over the park. Very intimidating.
“We were just told to wear a dark suit and read ‘Casino Royale’.
“[It was] terrifying.”
Matthew told how the producers were sitting behind a table “with Hyde Park behind them”, which he described as a “power move” because he had to take a seat facing them all.
He continued: “Right, totally. ‘Ah, Mr Bond, come in.’
“And they said, ‘What would you do differently with Bond?’ And I just remember going, ‘Ah.’ I was so not anticipating that question. And then I was like, is it a trick question? Are they waiting for people to go, ‘I wouldn’t do anything. He’s perfect’?
“[I didn’t want to say] ‘Oh, it’s been a bit one-note for a few decades, hasn’t it? I think we can drop the misogynistic jokes.’
“[So I joked] I’d give him a limp. I said, ‘Limp?’ Nothing. ‘Eye patch?’ Nothing.”
He was then ushered out and the job went to Daniel, who starred in five Bond films until 2021’s ‘No Time to Die’.

Joaquin Phoenix had endless conversations with Ari Aster before agreeing to do Beau is Afraid

OHMYGOSSIP — Joaquin Phoenix spent at least four days discussing his latest movie, ‘Beau is Afraid’ – before agreeing to portray the titular role.
The ‘Joker’ actor stars as Beau Wassermann in Ari Aster’s new surrealist black comedy horror, and although he found the script to be unlike anything else he’s done before, he needed the director, writer and producer to pitch him further.
Speaking to Collider, the Hollywood star said: “The script was like wholly original, and that’s always exciting, right? I think I’m always looking for something that feels unique. But really, it was the conversations with Ari that I think made the difference between me doing it or not.
“I think more often than not, I make my decision, not based on a filmmaker’s previous work, but based on how they talk about the film that they want to make. And really, we spoke for, like, four days in a row or something, right? [To Aster] When you first sent it to me I feel like we talked for hours.”
Aster, 36, replied: “Yeah, but I mean, we had so many conversations that went over the course of months.”
Phoenix agreed: “Right, but I mean, there was this initial…”
Aster – who has also helmed the horror movies ‘Hereditary’ and ‘Midsommar’ – interjected: “No, no, no, you’re right. That first week we got on every day.”
Phoenix insisted that if a script doesn’t spark further conversation it’s not worth doing.
