Bear Grylls finds out he’s related to Robert the Bruce

OHMYGOSSIP — Bear Grylls has discovered he is related to Robert the Bruce.
The 48-year-old adventurer admitted it was “epic” to find out he comes from royal lineage, after he discovered a connection to the King of Scots while travelling to Scotland to take part in an episode of BBC’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, which will air in June.
Bear admitted he took part in the show for his mother, who was hoping they would be related to a royal.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “My mother has always really wanted me to do it, because she had hoped we were related to someone royal.
“She’s now 82 and my sister took me to one side and said ‘mate, you have to do it’.
“I have always loved Scotland, it’s where I met my wife Shara. As soon as I was told we were going to Scotland I thought that was awesome, because it’s where my heart has always been.”
Bear described Robert the Bruce, who defeated Edward II at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314, as “a clansman who rewrote the rules of conventional soldiering”.
He said: “He was an inspirational leader who spent time in the great outdoors, he came back transformed and renewed.
“It was epic for me to follow that, and to understand a connecting spirit through our lives.”
It took some convincing for Bear to sign up to the show after turning it down for over a decade.
He said: “I just didn’t want to do it. I don’t like doing TV and I didn’t have an aspiration to do the show.”

Vanessa Feltz: Rolf Harris groped me

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz was groped by disgraced TV entertainer Rolf Harris on live TV.
The convicted paedophile’s death, aged 93, was confirmed yesterday (23.05.23), and it was revealed he died from neck cancer.
Harris was convicted in June 2014 on 12 counts of indecently assaulting young girls between the 1960s and 1980s.
Following his death, broadcaster Vanessa, 61, has told how the Australian-born star groped her during a 1996 interview on Channel 4’s ‘The Big Breakfast’.
She divulged to TalkTV’s Drivetime show how Harris tried touching her up during a segment called ‘On The Bed’, when his wife was standing in the same room.
She said: “We crowded into the little tiny bedroom where ‘The Big Breakfast’ bed was because it was situated in a real lock keeper’s cottage.
“So a tiny little bedroom, there’s the bed, there’s me on it and Rolf Harris next to me and the cameraman, director, and Rolf Harris’ wife standing literally a foot away to the side of the bed.
“We go live, and I’m like, ‘Hello, guess who’s on the bed with me today? It’s the wonderful Rolf Harris’ … and I can hear this noise.”
Vanessa recalled the harrowing moment Rolf slid his hands onto her leg.
She added: “I didn’t know what to do because I knew that I couldn’t say, ‘Get your hand off my leg,’ or, ‘What the hell do you think you’re doing?’ or ‘Get off me,’ and I also couldn’t jump off the bed because I was all mic-ed up and it’s a live programme. I didn’t know what to do at all.
“I tried, as you can see, to put the cushion between, that was no good. I couldn’t move any further away because you can see I would’ve fallen off the edge of the bed … his hand meanwhile was getting closer and closer and closer and closer and closer.
“And then it got to the edge of my pants, my knickers, or whatever. My lingerie, and I knew, that if I didn’t do something immediately, it was going to be a proper full-on assault.”
Vanessa also recalled the incident on ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (24.05.23).
She said: “As I’m talking to Rolf, I can hear my dress scrunching, all the beads being scrunched up, as he started to grab the bottom of my dress and move it further, and further, and further, and further, and further up. With his wife literally maximum two-feet away, live on TV. I didn’t know what to do”.

Piers Morgan defends Phillip Schofield and hits out at ‘ruthless backstabbing within daytime TV’

OHMYGOSSIP — Piers Morgan has claimed there is “abyss-like depths of ruthless backstabbing” within daytime TV.
The 58-year-old TalkTV presenter has insisted Phillip – who announced his departure from ‘This Morning’ last weekend after 21 years – is “not the evil monster he’s being painted as” by some.
Writing about Phillip in his The Sun newspaper column, Piers said: “One thing’s for sure, what’s happened to him is further evidence that the abyss-like depths of ruthless backstabbing in the world of daytime television makes even the seething cesspit of Westminster politics seem like an oasis of loyalty by comparison.”
Piers infamously fell out with ITV bosses when he refused to apologise for on-air comments made about Duchess Meghan during his time as ‘Good Morning Britain’ host, leading to him quitting the show and channel.
Earlier this week, Piers claimed daytime TV is “infested by a pack of savages”, following Phillip’s ‘This Morning’ send-off on Monday (22.05.23), which was a segment lasting less than a minute at the beginning of the episode.
And Piers has now told of the “sneaky duplicity” he has faced by some, “but not everyone in daytime TV”, throughout his own career.
He wrote in the publication: “I soon worked out there was a direct correlation between the size of a daytime TV person’s beaming smile and unctuous ‘love your work, Piers!’ sycophancy, and their sneaky duplicity.
“These two-faced wastrels would billow constant adoring smoke up my a** to my face and bask in the reflected glory of the soaring ratings and awards that I brought in, but behind my back many of the same smiley, happy, nicey-nicey people were pouring toxic buckets of foul-mouthed manure over me.
“They just didn’t realise I knew.
“You can always tell the real weasels by the way they gleefully trash every other presenter in your presence – but deludedly assume you won’t think they’re doing it you too.”

Charley Webb backs Alzheimer’s Research UK’s search for a cure

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ star Charley Webb is backing Alzheimer’s Research UK’s search for a cure, to avoid heartache for her children.
The 35-year-old actress – who is best known for playing Debbie Dingle in ITV’s soap – is helping to raise awareness of the disease, after her mum Helen was 64 years old when she was diagnosed with dementia in 2015, and now requires round-the-clock care.
According to studies, new figures have revealed that one in two people will either develop dementia themselves or care for someone with the condition.
Almost one million people in the UK are living with a form of dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease the most common cause. Despite this, there are no treatments currently available in the UK to slow or stop the diseases that cause dementia.
As a passionate supporter, the soap star – who has sons Buster, 13, Bowie, seven, and Ace, three, with her ‘Emmerdale’ co-star and husband Matthew Wolfenden – stands behind Alzheimer’s Research UK’s vow to find a cure, because she does not wish her three children to suffer the same heartbreak she did.
She said: “The years since my mum developed Alzheimer’s have been the hardest of our lives.
“Every day is a challenge and brings difficulties which we struggle to come terms with. Even though my mum is still with us, I miss her so much.
“She was the head of the family and a working mum who was always on the go. My dad died when I was 15 and she had to play both the mum and dad roles. She was great. Mum now struggles to string a sentence together and gets very emotional, but she moved into a care home around four weeks ago and is settled.
“Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease and the more research we can do, the better – finding a cure is so important. It has such a devastating impact on families and the thought of my children going through what we did frightens the life out of me. Diseases like Alzheimer’s take over your life and I’ve missed chunks of my children growing up because I’ve been so focused on helping Mum.
“The incredible work of Alzheimer’s Research UK gives me hope that one day dementia will be a thing of the past, but the charity needs our help to get there. I’m proud to support the charity and I’d urge others to join me. Too many lives have been lost to dementia and a cure would mean the next generation don’t have to go through it. We need to put a stop to it.”
Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, added: “We’re so grateful to Charley for bravely opening up about her family’s heart-breaking experience of dementia and raising awareness of the desperate need to find a cure.”
You can support Alzheimer’s Research UK by donating, fundraising, volunteering and campaigning. To find out more about the charity and how you can help visit www.alzheimersresearchuk.org

Bob Mortimer wants to oil his body and grapple a bear as his final act

OHMYGOSSIP — Bob Mortimer has joked he would love to oil himself up and grapple a bear while nude as his last act before he dies.
The 64-year-old comedian has told of his desire to go out in a grizzly way by fighting a four-foot Romanian beast.
Speaking about how he’d like to expire on the ‘Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake’ podcast, he said: “First off I thought I’d like it quick, and then I thought, ‘No, be brave – make your last deed on earth a bit special.’
“So, I thought I’d have a fight with a bear, not the great big one, about a four footer, a Romanian.
“Have a fight to the death, it would be terrifying but I’ve always fancied my chances against a smaller bear, not a big lad.
“I’d go nude, oil myself up a bit so it couldn’t get a grip and I’d just fly at it. But I’m imagining it would destroy me.”
The father-of-two does not want to be cremated and would much rather be buried instead so that his family will have a place to visit.
Bob requested his lifetime achievements, such as peeling a hard-boiled egg, are engraved into his headstone.
He added: “My main two achievements are little achievements which I’m proud of is that I can split an apple in half with my bare hands and peel a hard boiled egg with a shell in one piece.
“I think that would be interesting to read on a gravestone.”
The funnyman also admitted he’d love to come back as a bench to haunt his co-star Paul Whitehouse.
He said: “It seems lazy, but it’s the right thing to do, which is to haunt Paul, because I get on his t*** – I really do. And I think he’d miss it.
“He might have other friends that do it, I don’t know but in case he doesn’t I’ll come back and haunt him so he can have a go at me.”

Jodi Benson defends The Little Mermaid story changes

OHMYGOSSIP — Jodi Benson has defended the story changes in the live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’.
The 61-year-old star voiced Ariel in the original Disney 1989 animated film and can understand why lyrics to songs such as ‘Kiss the Girl’ and elements of the plot were changed to reflect the modern world.
Jodi told Entertainment Weekly: “We’re talking about starting our (voiceover) sessions in ’86 (for the original film). It’s 2023, so we have to grow, we have to learn, we have to be aware of our surroundings.”
The ‘Toy Story’ actress is glad that Rob Marshall’s movie has been able to maintain elements of the original while also adapting for the modern era.
Jodi said: “We’ve got to be aware of our growth as humans and what’s important now and what maybe isn’t as important.
“Things change. We’ve got to roll with that. I think that Rob and John (DeLuca, producer) have done a beautiful job of doing that, and still paying tribute and honour to our original film.
“But you’ve got to have growth. It’s very important to stay relevant with where we are, what’s going on around us. We need to be aware. So the adjustments and the fine-tuning that they needed to do, it was a must, but it was done in a beautiful way, and I’m very, very thrilled with it.”
Halle Bailey has broken down racial barriers as the first black Ariel and Benson was grateful to have the chance to pass on advice to the star.
She explained: “It’s been great for me to be able to just love on her and support her and her family.
“She did it. She has told this beautiful story, and I’m just so thrilled for her.”

Jeffrey Wright open to James Bond return

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeffrey Wright would consider returning to James Bond.
The 57-year-old actor has played the role of 007’s friend Felix Leiter in three of the spy movies and is willing to feature again despite being killed in the 2021 flick ‘No Time To Die’.
Asked if he would come back for a Bond reboot, Jeffrey told Deadline: “Yeah. Or if there’s a ‘ghost of Felix Leiter’ moment, then I’ll certainly consider doing that.
“But at the same time, I had a great run on those films, together with Daniel (Craig), Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson and I’m very happy to let that be.”
The ‘Westworld’ star added: “I’d never expected to be a part of that franchise. I was an enormous geeky fan of the Bond films as a kid, as many of us were. I’m completely satisfied with what we did there. I’m happy to move on and let someone else be part of it.”
Jeffrey has reunited with director Wes Anderson on the new movie ‘Asteroid City’ and hailed the acclaimed filmmaker’s “unique” approach behind the camera.
The actor explained: “He has a very vivid vision for his films, clearly, and he asks a group of actors to come together that he believes can help him realise that vision.
“Because he has such a specific and personal signature, we all understand what he’s doing – and if we don’t, then we’re in the wrong place. We understand that we are there to be in service to him and to his ideas and his framework. I find that to be gratifying. Wes is unique.
“So, I seriously enjoy working with him because of his specificity and also because I think his films are genuine.”

Deadpool 3 production underway despite writers’ strike

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Deadpool 3′ has started filming amid the ongoing writers’ strike.
The Marvel blockbuster sequel – which will see Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as the wisecracking mercenary alongside Hugh Jackman returning as Logan/Wolverine – has begun production despite the Writer’s Guild of America in its third week of action in a bid to land a fairer wage from studios.
While many shows and movies have halted their schedules until the strike is over, actor Stefan Kapicic confirmed on his Instagram Story that production is underway.
However, while a script was most likely already written before filming, the process is still being heavily impacted by the WGA strike.
As reported by Collider, a contract between the writers and studio means the cast have to follow the script precisely.
Writers are typically available on set in case any adjustments are needed, but this won’t be the case.
It also means Reynolds, whose quips are an integral part of the role, won’t be allowed to improvise any lines at all while the strike is still going on.
The movie is set to be released in 2024, with fans excited to see Jackman back as Wolverine in a new environment.
Reynolds recently explained how he was desperate to get the ‘X-Men’ character involved in the ‘Deadpool’ franchise.
He told ET Canada: “We’ve wanted this for decades… it’s weirdly the perfect time.
“I never stopped (trying to get him to come back as Wolverine). I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years.
“I believe in timing, as much as hard work and luck and all those intersections that are supposed to meet. Timing’s the big one. I think he was ready. I think he was excited.”

ITV said: “Returning to ITVX and ITV2 in June, the Islanders must do their best to flirt, date and couple up in a bid to avoid being ‘dumped’ from the Island. With new arrivals, heads may turn, while others will prove their true feelings.
“From romance and heart-to-hearts, to betrayal, bombshells and broken hearts, there’s never a dull moment in the ultimate search for love. More texts, fire pit gatherings and challenges await the lovestruck Islanders, meaning there’ll be plenty for them to dish the dirt on in the Beach Hut.
“Twists and turns will follow every step of the way, with shock recouplings, unexpected breakups and dramatic dumpings.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger up for Marvel movie ‘if the role is right’

OHMYGOSSIP — Arnold Schwarzenegger would be up for a part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the role was “right”.
The 75-year-old star has hinted he could be set to follow in the footsteps of his ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ son-in-law Chris Pratt, who is married to Schwarzenegger’s daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger, 33.
Asked if he is open to a Marvel movie, he told Men’s Health magazine: “If the role is right!”
Last month, Arnold praised Pratt’s performance in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, in which he reprised his role as Peter Quill / Star-Lord.
He tweeted: “I saw #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 last night and WOW. @prattprattpratt, you crushed it. A non-stop, perfect mix of comedy and action. I loved it and I’m very, very proud of you. (sic)”
Arnold also recently praised son-in-law Pratt’s chess playing abilities.
He told ExtraTV: “In all fairness, I am a mediocre chess player… It is just that Chris Pratt has just begun playing chess, but he’s very, very focused. He’s very, very smart and he’s a quick, quick learner. I think he’s extraordinary. I was in the middle of a game, almost losing the game, so I had to stay focused. I had to visualize myself as the winner. I said, ‘Please, can you leave right now? I’m about to lose!’”
Pratt recently explained that while it has been “surreal” to have the ‘Terminator’ actor as part of his family, he has loved getting to know the “regular” guy behind the Hollywood action star and revealed that he has “never” been able to beat his father-in-law at a game of chess.
Speaking on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’, he said: “It is pretty surreal! I’ve gotten to obviously to know the regular guy and all of that, he’s a great dad, a great grandad, and a good father-in-law and he’s got a wealth of experience. It’s been very nice, he’s a great dude. We play chess a lot. I’ve never beaten him, he’s very, very good.”

Brookside star Louis Emerick admits to injuring girls in car crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Emerick has admitted to causing serious injury by careless driving.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the former ‘Brookside’ star – who played Mick Johnson on the soap – hit two 12-year-old girls with his Honda car in Wallasey in October 2022.
The CPS added that the 64-year-old actor “was not speeding but admitted that he couldn’t see clearly because of the sun so he should have slowed down”.
His sentencing is set for June 20.
The CPS said Emerick – who appeared in court under his full name Louis Emerick Grant – admitted two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving at Wirral Magistrates’ Court.
The actor’s representative said he was driving towards Wallasey Village when the two girls crossed Poulton Road at around 17:15 GMT.
They added his car cut the corner of the right hand bend, going into the “centre hatched markings” and striking the girls.
While he was “not seen to slow down or break”, they noted that his speed was not “excessive”.
Meanwhile, a breathalyser test didn’t show any evidence Emerick – who has also appeared in the likes of ‘Doctors’, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Silent Witness’, ‘Casualty’ and ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ over the years – had taken drink or drugs.
He was wearing prescription glasses which react to sunlight, and while he looked to his near side,he didn’t see them because of the sun in his eyes.
Following the hearing, district Crown prosecutor Linda Melia said: “[He] was not speeding, but admitted that he couldn’t see clearly because of the sun, so he should have slowed down.”
He has also contacted both girls’ familiesi to apologise, and shown remorse “through the investigation”.
She added: “He has been fully co-operative and remorseful throughout the investigation and has apologised on numerous occasions.”
And while there was no intent to “injure” the girls, Melia described the incident as a “lesson” in taking car behind the wheel.
She said: “It’s clear [he] did not mean to injure these girls, but the events of that day are a lesson that, when we are at the wheel of a car, care and attention are needed at all times.”

Neighbours stars April Rose Pengilly and Jodi Gordon returning for Amazon revival

OHMYGOSSIP — April Rose Pengilly and Jodi Gordon are returning for the ‘Neighbours’ revival.
The two stars – who play Chloe Brennan and Elly Conway respectively – are preparing to head back to the Ramsay Street set for the Amazon Freevee reboot of the beloved Australian soap.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (24.05.23), she tweeted: “We are excited to announce that CHELLY ARE BACK! @jodigordon and I will both be appearing in the new @neighbours, and will be back on set very soon.
“Thank you all so much for your support. We can’t wait to share Chloe and Elly’s next chapter with you!”
The couple reunited during the final episodes of the show’s original run, but there were suggestions the couple could be moving away from Erinsborough and setting up camp in Sydney.
The two actresses were both delighted to bring some closure to to their characters’ love story, and like many of their cast mates they were caught off guard when Amazon secured the show’s future after a heartbreaking goodbye.
April – who played Elly between 2016 and 2020 before returning for the emotional finale – previously said: “We were all just really shocked and confused!
“I’m so happy for all of you to have your show back and know you’re so excited, but it’s strange for us as we knew nothing about it.
“Apart from the Heritage 4, none of us have been asked to be involved yet. It’s like, all us cast and crew lost our jobs. Now the jobs are back! But maybe we don’t get the jobs.”
However, she later teased her comeback as she confirmed talks were underway about a return.
She told Studio 10’s Angela Bishop, Tristan MacManus and Narelda Jacobs: “There are conversations happening, I say that with a big smile on my face!”

Love Island bosses reveal updated duty of care guidelines

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Love Island’ will formally introduce a guideline to ask participants to pause their social media when they are on the show.
Show bosses used the ITV2 dating programme’s winter series earlier this year to trial the idea of Islanders not having family or friends use their social media handles and accounts for the time participants are on the show, to ensure their pals and family members were protected from trolling.
While outlining their duty of care procedures for the upcoming 10th series – which will begin on June 5th – this week, ITV have confirmed that suspending social media will be one of the extensive protocols, as will training in language and behaviour, and ongoing support before, during and after filming.
It comes after feedback from former Islanders, including series five contestant Amy Hart.
Speaking about her experiences with social media, she said: “I didn’t really take into account when I went into the villa that although my best friend was really excited to run my social media account, it was me that signed up to do the show, not my family and not my friends.
“But it was them that had to read the death threats and it was them that had to read the horrible messages.
“Whereas when I came out, I came out to a great reaction because of the way that I left, and they were the ones who had a hard time when I was in there.”
Tasha Ghouri – who appeared on series eight – praised the new protocol.
She said: “I think this is great and needs to be done.
“I believe it’s 100 per cent the right step in the right direction, I could see there was a lot less trolling and negativity.”
All Islanders will complete video training and guidance across a range of topics to include mutually respectful behaviour in relationships, behaviour patterns associated with controlling and coercive behaviour and language around disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, and microaggressions before they meet their fellow Islanders.
The welfare service offered to Islanders includes comprehensive psychological support, training for all Islanders on the impacts of social media and handling potential negativity, training for all Islanders on financial management, detailed conversations with Islanders regarding the impact of participation on the show, a proactive aftercare package which extends support to all Islanders following their participation on the show, and guidance and advice on taking on management after the show.
The Love Island Duty of Care policies and procedures are reviewed after each series and reflect feedback from former Islanders.
‘Love Island’ returns on Monday 5th June at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX, and on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player in Ireland.
