Eva Longoria is drowning in scripts after directing Flamin’ Hot

OHMYGOSSIP — Eva Longoria has read “many scripts” as she looks for her next directorial effort.
The 48-year-old actress has made her feature debut behind the camera on the film ‘Flamin’ Hot’ and explained that the ideas she has been sent have struggled to match the quality of the movie about the invention of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Speaking to Variety, Eva said: “I will tell you it’s been very difficult. I’ve been sent many scripts already. I’ve been reading so much, but there’s nothing so far that has sparked in me the intense passion that I had for telling this particular story.
“I was asking my agent, ‘Do I have to feel this way about every story I want to direct? Because I haven’t felt it yet.’ He said that should be the bar.”
‘Flamin’ Hot’ tells the story of Richard Montanez – an executive at Frito-Lay who is credited with the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos – and Eva is convinced that the “underdog story” appeals to viewers of all backgrounds.
The ‘Desperate Housewives’ star said: “I will say that it’s just so impressive how this movie is resonating across cultures.
“It’s not just a Latino movie. It’s an underdog story, a perseverance story, a rags-to-riches story and American dream story. So when you see the territories and the reach, it’s really blown me away.”
Eva explained how she felt under pressure to deliver with the movie as female and Latina directors struggle to get second chances if the films are not up to scratch.
She said: “We – female filmmakers, Latina filmmakers – don’t have that luxury of failing.
“I couldn’t afford to fail, and we carried that with us every day on set. Everybody was in the room with me directing that movie. I did not do it alone. That really lifted me up to show up as my best self to deliver the best movie.”

Phoebe Waller-Bridge has a complex role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

OHMYGOSSIP — Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays a “complicated character” in ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’.
The 37-year-old star features in the new movie as Indy’s (Harrison Ford) goddaughter Helena Shaw and believes that her alter ego will be a divisive figure for audiences.
Phoebe told The Hollywood Reporter at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday (14.06.23): “She’s a complicated character, you don’t know if you’re supposed to love her or hate her.
“She has a nefarious agenda and she’s an enemy to Indy – well, she’s a friend, then she’s an enemy, then she’s a friend, then she’s an enemy.”
The fifth and final movie sees Helena accompany Indiana Jones to retrieve a legendary dial that could change the course of history and the ‘Fleabag’ actress was relieved that she didn’t have to be particularly “slick” during the stunt scenes.
Phoebe explained: “They didn’t want me to be too slick, which was a relief because otherwise I would’ve never gotten the part. I just had to be a kind of scrambled mess jumping from vehicles or jumping out of airplanes.
“So I was surprised that I could do it, but I didn’t do any of the super impressive stuff; that was Anna Stephenson, who was my stunt double. So whenever you go, ‘Wow!’ that’s Anna, whenever you go, ‘Ah’, that’s me.”
The movie is Harrison’s final bow as Indy and he is thankful for the “freedom” that the franchise has given him as a performer.
The 80-year-old actor said: “The success of these movies have really given me not only a chance to satisfy a broad audience, but they’ve given me a freedom; and because of their success, they’ve given me freedom in my chosen profession.
“And I’m grateful for that, I’m grateful for everything that’s happened to me. I’m a lucky guy.”

Brian Cox admits acting career has ended up with him being dubbed ‘The f*** off man’

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Cox says his acting career has ended up with him being known as “the ‘F*** off’ man”.
Despite spending decades acting on stage and screen, the 77-year-old says his role as sweary media tycoon Logan Roy in HBO’s ‘Succession’ has given him the same potty-mouthed image among fans – but he added the role has also made him a “cultural icon”.
Brian told Emily Blunt in a Variety Actors on Actors interview: “It’s a problem. I’ve been doing this for 60 years – for most of the time people are, ‘Were you in?’
“But now I am the ‘F*** off’ man. I am not knocking it.
“But at the same time it’s not easy to be a cultural icon. As they say in Scotland, it’s an awfully big job for one wee boy.”
Brian added his conflicting emotions about playing Logan may be shared by his kids.
He said: “It’s very hard, because my eldest son is an actor, he’s a very fine actor, actually. And I think it’s difficult.
“Especially now, this whole icon thing… it’s not an easy thing to carry around. I mean, people are always nice, don’t get me wrong, people always come up and they’re very gracious.
“But when they come in swarms, that becomes really tricky… but it’s OK.”
Brian said his fiery performances come naturally “because anger is always very close to me”.
But he added: “Unfortunately, I’ve played a lot of very not pleasant people. I don’t know why. I think I’m perfectly pleasant.”
Brian also admitted he couldn’t put on a brave face meeting his idol Meryl Streep, 73, who he said he wants to work with “before I snuff it”.
He added: “I met her once, and I said, ‘I never liked you.’
“And she went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘I never liked you because I was jealous.’ How can anybody be that good?”

BBC bosses ‘already planning more heartbreaking Best Interests-style shows’

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC bosses are reportedly already planning more heartbreaking ‘Best Interests’-style TV shows.
The four-part drama currently airing on BBC One is garnering praise from critics and audiences and tells of Nicci, played by Sharon Horgan, 52, and Andrew (Michael Sheen, 54) fighting in the courts to stop their daughter Marnie – who has a life-threatening condition – being allowed to die by doctors who think it is in her “best interests”.
A TV insider told The Sun: “There are so many variations on the topic of court cases concerning what is in the best interests of an individual.
“In the current series, it’s a child, but it could be elderly people, or people with disabilities, or other adults suffering from conditions where a court has to decide what is the best course of action.
“It’s a difficult topic but the BBC feels it in safe hands with Jack.
“It’s early days though, and there are so many parts to put in place.”
Niamh Moriarty, 16, who has a form of cerebral palsy called spastic diplegia, appears as Marnie in ‘Best Interests’ alongside Sharon and Michael.
Many have drawn parallels between the show and the tragic real-life case of Archie Battersbee, whose life support was switched off in 2022 following a battle between his parents and Archie’s medical team.
The Sun added new actors would likely be brought in for future shows on similar themes, but said the show’s writer, Jack Thorne, 44, would stay on.
Sharon told The Guardian how the terror she felt when her daughter contracted meningitis when she was young fed into her performance on the series.
She said: “While we thought we might lose her – as I was watching them trying to find a vein and get some antibiotics into her – I remember thinking, ‘I don’t care what happens – like, take off her limbs, whatever you need to do – just keep her alive.’”

She says on Friday’s (16.06.23) episode of ‘The Chris and Rosie Ramsey Show’ on BBC One: “We’re 40, we’re married and we’re very patient with each other – we communicate and we’ve lived these lives, but we have these f****** infants.
“I think we’re good parents and we’re very privileged but it kicks the living s*** right out of you.”
When asked directly how often she and Bobby have sex she added: “Not very often.
“I log it because I’m always trying to conceive! Day to day we’re back and forth about having more babies.
“I will never allow him to get the snip! I just really love kids. Look, I’m 40 this year, we’ll see!”
Katherine and Bobby were childhood sweethearts from their days living in Canada, but parted ways before reuniting in 2018.
The pair held a civil partnership ceremony in 2019 in Denmark, with Katherine telling ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’: “It was a lovely day. It’s perfect having a civil partner.
“We didn’t have a wedding, I didn’t need to put on a white dress and pretend to be a virgin, that ship has sailed!”

Dr Alex George wants another series of controversial ‘Naked Education’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dr Alex George wants another series of the controversial Channel 4 show ‘Naked Education’.
The former ‘Love Island’ contestant, 32, joined ‘Naked Attraction’ host Anna Richardson, 52, and presenter Yinki Bokinni, 34, for the six-part show that racked up more than 1,200 complaints to broadcast regulator Ofcom by April after it showed strangers stripped in front of teenagers.
Dr Alex said on his ‘Stompcast’ podcast: “I’d absolutely do a series two. What we did was fantastic. I think it’s been really helpful.
“I think ask this question in 10, 15 years time, would there be a negative reaction? I think society will have moved on so much by that point. People who are angry will go and be angry about something else.”
But his co-presenter on the Channel 4 show Anna said she feared the series could be looked at negatively in future.
She added: “I could equally throw that question back out there and say I did this 15 years ago and it was far more acceptable then than it has been now.
“So I dread to think in 15 years time if we did it again.”
Anna’s long-running Channel 4 dating show ‘Naked Attraction’ is returning for an eighth series in 2024.
The first episode of ‘Naked Education’, which aired on 4 April, racked up 930 complaints from angry viewers and rose to over 1,200.
Despite the backlash, Anna, has defended the educational series as she said it is good for body positivity.
She told TV Mag: “‘Naked Education’ is a body positive, educational series that is basically aiming to normalise all body types and champion everybody’s differences, so that we can accept that with our clothes off we’re all normal.
“I like to make shows that are controversial, that break taboos and that make a difference, and with every single show that I’ve done you can tick one of those boxes.
“‘Naked Education’ is sort of one step further than ‘Naked Attraction’, as it says: ‘Let’s normalise bodies, let’s have the conversation about what we go through and let’s actually educate the nation.’”

Eva Longoria convinced ‘Desperate Housewives’ would be ‘cancelled’ today

OHMYGOSSIP — Eva Longoria is convinced ‘Desperate Housewives’ would be “cancelled” today.
The 48-year-old played supermodel Gabrielle Solis on the popular ABC television series which ran from 2004 to 2012, but the actress believes its storylines – including murder and Gabrielle’s statutory rape of her 17-year-old gardener John Rowland (played by Jesse Metcalfe) – wouldn’t see the light of day now.
Eva told Entertainment Tonight: “I don’t know if we could do the show today. I think we’d get cancelled.
“I mean, not cancelled on TV but like cancelled in culture because it was so groundbreaking… we said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”
Eva recently said about being willing to return for a reboot of the show: “I’d be the first one to sign up. I’d probably be the only one.”
She added in a chat with Mario Lopez for Access Hollywood: “I miss Gabby so much! I miss being Gabby Solis.”
But she admitted series creator Marc Cherry, 61, isn’t up for a reboot, saying: “Marc wouldn’t do it, our creator. I’ve talked to him several times. He feels like, ‘Why now?’, like, for the sake of a reboot. He wouldn’t do it.
“He wants to know like, ‘What do I have to say with these characters that we haven’t already fully mined?’”
She added Marc said: “You know, I come from the generation of 24 episodes a year for a decade of our lives. Like, there’s no more six-episode per season stuff that there is now. This was like 24 episodes a year. We fully mined those characters.’”

Rob Brydon secretly impersonated Ken Bruce for entire Radio 2 talk show

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Brydon once secretly impersonated Ken Bruce for an entire Radio 2 talk show.
The ‘Gavin and Stacey’ actor, 58, was so convincing during the April Fool’s Day prank for a two-and-a-half-hour slot in 2011 Ken’s sister called him concerned he was drunk.
Rob said in an appearance with Ken, 72, on his ‘Brydon and’ podcast: “I find that sort of thing easy and so enjoyable, that’s the thing.
“Pete Serafinowicz did Terry (Wogan) and then one bit I started drifting towards Terry’s voice and had to try and get back to Bruce.”
During the prank, listeners and PopMaster contestants were treated to a slightly unorthodox version of Ken, with his sister calling to say: “He must be drunk, get him off there.”
The real Ken joined right at the end of the show, introduced by Rob’s fake Ken as his “brother Kenn, with two ns”.
Ken – who recently left his longstanding BBC Radio 2 slot for Greatest Hits Radio – said: “For the entire programme, an act of absolute brilliance if I may say, just real genius.
“Nobody in my family knew, just my wife, because I was home in the beginning of the show.”

Jess Harding did own Botox before appearing on Love Island

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Jess Harding did her own Botox before appearing on the show because she didn’t want wrinkles on TV.
The 22-year-old aesthetics practitioner was forced to take matters into her own hands because there was no one else available, but she has admitted it was a “horrible” experience.
She told OK! magazine: “The other day I did do my own Botox because no one was available.
“It was horrible but I had to do it, you can’t have wrinkles on telly.”
While Jess is no stranger to the odd enhancement, the Islander insists she doesn’t do anything “extreme” to her body.
She said: “I do have a little bit of Botox and filler. I just got it because when it’s your job it’s quite easy to just say, ‘Go on then.’
“A lot of the practitioners work together. I’ve had so many of my practitioner friends come to me, like, ‘Babe, can you just put it in my face?’
“To us it’s nothing, and people are spending hundreds and thousands.”
However, Jess is afraid of needles.
She added: “It’s easily influenced but I’m quite scared of needles, considering it’s my job.”
Jess is currently coupled up Sammy Root in the villa, after he entered the ITV2 dating show as a bombshell last week.
Prior to entering the villa, Jess insisted she is a “really good girlfriend”.
She said: “I think I’ve got quite a big personality and I’ve got a heart of gold.
“I can stand up for myself if I need to. I’m honest, and I love, love. I’m also a really good girlfriend.”
‘Love Island’ continues tomorrow at 9pm on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player, proudly sponsored by Virgin Media Mobile.
The reality show can also be seen on ITV2.

Lucy Boynton to star in ITV drama Ruth

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Boynton is to star in new ITV drama ‘Ruth’.
The 29-year-old actress will lead the cast of the upcoming four-part series, which will tell the gripping story of Britain’s last woman to hang, Ruth Ellis.
Lucy said: “Ruth Ellis’ story is a fascinating one.
“Both she and this complex case have always evoked a strong reaction, and with Kelly’s insightful scripts I’m looking forward to bringing a new perspective to both familiar audiences as well as those who are unaware of her mark on British history.”
The drama, which has been written by Kelly Jones, is set in 1955 and will premiere on ITV1 and be available for streaming on ITVX.
‘Ruth’ will be told over two parallel timelines, and will pose questions about what really happened in the months before Ruth killed her lover David Blakely.
The drama will see Ellis as a young nightclub manageress, her abusive relationship with Blakely, and her subsequent arrest, trial and the legal fight to reprieve her before she was hanged by infamous hangman, Albert Pierrepoint, in Holloway Prison, aged just 28 in 1955.
‘Ruth’ has been commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill and Drama Commissioner, Huw Kennair Jones.
Huw said: “There is so much more to the Ruth Ellis story than we think we know. Kelly’s scripts brilliantly explore not only how the emotional and physical abuse she suffered drove her to commit a terrible crime but also the desperate last-minute attempt to save her as she and her supporters battled an unforgiving Establishment.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Lucy Boynton and Silverprint Pictures to bring this compelling story to the ITV and ITVX audience.”

Anna Richardson to front slimming jab documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Richardson is to front a new Channel 4 documentary about the recent slimming jab phenomenon.
The ‘Naked Attraction’ presenter, 52, will aim to discover the truth behind Semaglutide and Liraglutide – also known as Wegovy and Ozempic – which have been approved for use by the NHS and are soon to be heading to UK high-street chemists.
Anna said: “Much as these drugs have been approved for treatment for those with type 2 diabetes or obesity, the dangerous hype around them, added to by celebrity endorsement, is rapidly going to lead to improper use in those who do not need it.
“This doc will be the first to uncover the myths and facts behind the new ‘magic bullet’ in the fight against obesity.”
Anna – who is collaborating on the film with Betty TV – will explore whether social media is compounding the craze, and see whether the risks are being communicated.

“I’m thrilled to have Anna on board to lead this timely and important documentary.”

Revealing the secret meaning behind the show, he’s quoted by The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column as saying: “There’s a very soft theme, which is male mental health.
“We don’t make a big thing of it, but what happens is I talk to men about things they might not generally want to talk about.
“We have a nice conversation and we discuss how they are or what they are up to.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star is already looking ahead to the next series, and he wants to make sure men and women are both included in the future.
He added: I want it to be everyone. We’re only doing four shows but next series we’ll do [men and women].
“It’s going to be great fun and I am really looking forward to doing more.”
The comic isn’t a stranger to long walks as last summer, he completed a seven-day, 100-mile trek along part of the South West Coast Path and raised around £110,000 in memory of his friend Sean Lock, who died of cancer in August 2021.

Naomi Ackie never had to learn lines for Mickey 17

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Ackie did not need to learn her lines for ‘Mickey 17’.
The 30-year-old actress has a part in the upcoming sci-fi film directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon-ho and was pleased to be given “freedom” by the man behind the camera.
Naomi told The Hollywood Reporter: “I can say that the way he works is incredible, and I was very happy.
“I think a lot of people already know this, but he storyboards his films, so you film in a way where you shoot scene by scene, frame by frame. We never shot a scene all the way through. We never shot a scene all the way through. We never had to learn our lines.”
The ‘Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ star continued: “There’s such beauty in how specific he is, and it gives actors so much freedom. What he asks of you in terms of what he needs is usually one note. It’s usually one note that opens up a world of other things.
“It’s genuinely incredible to watch a filmmaker like him do his thing because he’s so good at it, and, yet, he’s so relaxed that he makes it look easy.”
‘Mickey 17’, which also stars Robert Pattinson and Steven Yeun, is based on a book of the same name by Edward Ashton and Naomi explained how the director encouraged her to simply focus on the script.
She recalled: “I eagerly said that I would jump straight in and read the book that it is based on, but he told me not to read it. He said, ‘I want you to read the script.’
“It’s obviously based on the book but the script is its own thing, and he didn’t want me to be informed by the book. But he made it so that we were all pretty open to explore and just be playful.
“It was all so playful and fun. He creates an atmosphere where everyone felt like they could be silly and really explore what they wanted to without anyone saying, ‘You’re doing it wrong’ kind of thing.”

Andy Muschietti delighted that Tom Cruise liked ‘The Flash’

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Muschietti got a “confidence boost” after Tom Cruise praised ‘The Flash’.
The ‘Top Gun’ star is said to have contacted the director to express how much he enjoyed the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film and Muschietti values his praise – as well as that of the horror author Stephen King – highly.
Questioned on whether the good feedback added pressure, the filmmaker told GamesRadar+: “No. If anything, (we got) more confidence in the thing we did, because the movie was finished by the time (Cruise and King) saw it, so it was a confidence boost if anything.”
Andy’s sister Barbara Muschietti – who serves as a producer on ‘The Flash’ – felt the same way about the Hollywood icon’s love for the picture.
She said: “It’s a very cynical industry, and to hear people that really have no skin in the game, because they have nothing to gain, just say something that lovely – in the case of Tom Cruise, he called us, talked for 15 minutes, praising Andy, praising the film, and it just feels very good because we work really hard to make these movies.”
‘The Flash’ sees Michael Keaton play the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the first time in over 30 years and Andy held discussions with the actor as to how they could explain what had happened to the character in the intervening period.
The ‘It’ director said: “It’s always a thrill to speculate or imagine that that Batman will come back, but also the thing that was very exciting to me was basically filling the space of those 30 years where we haven’t seen what Bruce is up to.
“And that was part of my conversations with Michael Keaton, and it was great because we had a lot of fun creating that timeline where we don’t know what he did.”

Kristen Stewart is writing ‘stupid stoner comedy’ with fiancee Dylan Meyer

OHMYGOSSIP — Kristen Stewart is writing a “really f****** stupid” stoner comedy.
The 33-year-old actress – whose varied career has seen her star in everything from the likes of ‘The Twilight Saga’ and ‘Still Alice’ to ‘Spencer’ and ‘Happiest Season’ over the years – has been working on a new script with her fiancee Dylan Meyer.
Speaking to Rachel Sennott for Interview magazine, she said: “Design the s*** out of your process. That’s the only way to enjoy it.
“Me and Dylan are writing a movie. It’s a stoner girl comedy, and it’s really f****** stupid. I think you’ll like it.”
Stewart also reflected on the importance of working with people she actually likes after doing the opposite “for so long”.
She added: “But the reason I even thought of this is because our producer is our best friend.
“We’re starting a company. I’ve worked with so many people that I didn’t know and that I didn’t like for so long. It was definitely valuable, but also, f*** that.”
Her partner – whose father is Academy Award nominated screenwriter Nicholas Meyer – previously co-wrote ‘Moxie’ with Amy Poehler.
Stewart could also step behind the camera for the project, as she’ll be making her directorial debut with ‘The Chronology of Water’, which was prompted by the fear she has of bigger projects.
She explained: “I feel scared of anything big lately. There’s a weird hierarchy that makes me uncomfortable.
“This is the most clichéd, rote, expected, and completely genuine thing, but I just want to make a Cassavetes movie. I want my first movie to be a student film, even if it takes three years.
“I’m also not going to make a movie for more than $5 million, because it makes me uncomfortable and they usually suck. But getting people to agree to do that is so hard.”
