Michael Shannon rejected ‘mindless’ Star Wars role

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Shannon turned down a part in ‘Star Wars’ as he didn’t want to be “stuck in a franchise”.
The 48-year-old actor was offered an undisclosed role in the sci-fi series in 2016 but said no as he considers the blockbusters to be “mindless entertainment”.
Michael told Empire magazine: “I’m always a bit wary about those giant movies. Because they take a lot of time and I don’t find them very stimulating to work on.
“I don’t ever want to get stuck in a franchise. I don’t find them interesting and I don’t want to perpetuate them. If I’m making something, I want there to be some kind of purpose to it – I don’t want to make mindless entertainment.
“The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We’re inundated with it.”
Despite his dislike of movie franchises, Michael reprises his role as General Zod in the new DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film ‘The Flash’ – although he did not expect to be back for another movie having first played the antagonist a decade ago in ‘Man of Steel’.
The ‘Nocturnal Animals’ star explained: “Yeah, I didn’t see myself playing Zod again, because he was dead. It’s actually one of the reasons I made ‘Man of Steel’ in the first place – it was a one-and-done. So I was pretty shocked to hear about the reprisal of the role.
“But I like the story that ‘The Flash’ is telling and I wasn’t there for a long amount of time – I was just there a couple of weeks – so it didn’t break my back to do it.”
However, Michael recently admitted that he wasn’t satisfied with his work on the film.
He told Collider: “Yeah. I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures.
“It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!’ It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt ‘Man of Steel’ was.”

Katie Piper had ‘nightmare’ during prison filming thanks to severe eye pain

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Piper was “really struggling” with severe eye pain while filming ‘Jailhouse Mums’.
The 39-year-old star – who is fronting the new two-part documentary about incarcerated mothers in facilities in the US – had surgery earlier this year to fix a defect in her left eye, and she admitted it was a “nightmare” during the shoot because she didn’t have access to eye drops.
She told the MailOnline: “It’s not great. It’s ongoing my eye for me. I had this infection since February which has never really stabilised.
“It was a nightmare throughout the filming of the prison show. I was really struggling and it was really hard to get eye drops into the prisons.
“It’s just one of those things that has never been a stable injury for me.”
The medical procedure is the latest in a raft of complications she has suffered after being the vicim of an acid attack in 2008, which left her blind in one eye.
She added: “I think if you’re going to have such a life-changing injury you’re going to know and accept those things don’t just heal and go away.
“It is the same for every burn survivor I have met at that level of severity of injury.”
The ‘Loose Women’ presenter – who is married to carpenter Richard Sutton and has daughters Belle, nine, and five-year-old Penelope with him – recently admitted she found it “difficult” to leave her own children at home in the UK, but knew it was nothing compared to what her interviewees go through as mothers in prison.
She told HELLO! magazine: “It was really difficult because you’d spend all day talking about children being separated from their parents, knowing you’re not seeing yours, and I remember feeling a bit guilty.
“I was going to see my children in a week or two, but some of these women are looking at 30 years until they see theirs.”
‘Katie Piper’s Jailhouse Mums’ begins at 10pm on Wednesday (21.06.23) on W.

Staged took inspiration from The Beatles documentary for final series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Staged’ took inspiration from The Beatles’ ‘Get Back’ documentary.
The popular BBC sitcom – which stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant as fictional versions of themselves as they initially tried to organise a stage show over Zoom calls – is coming to an end with the current third series, and David admitted they needed to find a “clever” idea to make the new episodes worth it.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “We needed an idea clever, creative and silly enough to be able to spin some new stuff.
“[Writers] Phin Glynn and Simon Evans came up with something, slightly inspired by the Beatles’ ‘Get Back’ documentary, that gave us reason to come back.
“We love doing it – that first series was such a huge tonic in the heat of lockdown, when we had a very young baby and were reaching the nadir of our day-to-day experience with home-schooling.”
The two actors first started filming the comedy during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, while the show featured appearances from David’s wife Georgia and Michael’s partner Anna Lundberg as well as writer/director Simon Evans, and there were also cameos from Hollywood stars including Samuel L. Jackson, Dame Judi Dench, Whoopi Goldberg, Ewan McGregor, and Cate Blanchett.
When it came to having his family involved and showing his actual home, David explained it was a matter of timing and the pandemic.
He said: “I don’t think it’s something we would have done, had circumstances not enforced it.
“We’ve always been – and I don’t apologise for this – quite overprotective of our family bubble, which comes from having our relationship scrutinised very early on and wanting to keep all that to ourselves.
“But we’ve been together for a long time and maybe we’re more confident about that now. We recently did our first photoshoot as a couple, which was very peculiar.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Doctor Who’ star recently confirmed ‘Staged’ won’t be returning for a fourth series.
He told The Sun newspaper: “We’ve had a wonderful time filming the series but have no plans to do more. It was a show borne out of a particular period of time – lockdown – when we were all in our houses communicating via Zoom, as our characters did in the show.”

Marc Warren enlisted stunt double to run for him on Van Der Valk

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Warren had a stunt double running for him on ‘Van Der Valk’.
The ‘Band of Brothers’ star admitted there’s an on-set joke on the ITV1 detective drama – which is currently airing its third and finale season – that he “doesn’t run”, but he insisted that’s because he doesn’t “run well on screen”.
The 56-year-old actor told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column: “”In terms of stunts, I have a great stuntman called Phil who doubles for me and I don’t tend to do a lot of that stuff.
“They always joke that, ‘Marc doesn’t run.’ I do run. But you know what you’re good at, and you know what you’re not good at, and you know you’re not good at.
“I don’t run well on screen. I’m not a good runner. You don’t want to see me running.”
Marc insisted when they were filming for the remake of the classic show – which originally ran from 1972 to 1992 – in Amsterdam, he “really did” his leg “in”.
He said: “I was staying in an apartment with three of the steepest flights of stars. And I do not know why, but it really did my calf in.
“I think it as using muscles that I wasn’t used to doing.”
And the ‘An Ungentlemanly Act’ star admitted footage of him running from working on BBC One’s 2009 series was “not pretty”.
Marc added: “I remember running once in ‘Hustle’ with Adrian Lester, who can run. And I watched the playback, and I was just legs everywhere. It’s not pretty.”
The former ‘Mad Dogs’ star recently insisted the last series of the show is the best yet as they’ve shed all “the things that don’t work”.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “I think anybody who enjoyed the first two seasons will enjoy this one because I think it does get stronger. It’s a show that’s learning, and we take what’s good, and we get rid of the things that don’t work, and hopefully, we’ve made it more entertaining.”

Sir Tony Robinson almost missed out on iconic Blackadder role

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Tony Robinson almost missed out on ‘Blackadder’.
The 76-year-old actor had many obstacles getting in the way of him shooting to fame on the beloved BBC historical comedy – which this year is celebrating its 40th anniversary – including industrial action and a chance the series wouldn’t even get made.
He told the Metro newspaper’s ‘60 Seconds’ column: “I rehearsed for six days with these guys and thought, ‘How lucky am I to have got this part?’ Then the producer came in, and there had been a lighting strike [by BBC staff], so they couldn’t do the show.
“So I went off and had a great job at the National Theatre. And then, when it was remounted, I wasn’t available to play Baldrick, so someone else did.
“Then, more months went by and eventually, there was this telephone call out of the blue from the producer saying, ‘Hey, we have the series,’ and I said, ‘That’s wonderful, will you congratulate Rowan [Atkinson] for me? But he said, ‘Remember you are going to be playing Baldrick!’ ”
Tony insisted he got cast because it “was such a rubbish part” but he wanted the role so he could be involved with people with backgrounds like co-stars Rowan Atkinson, 68, Stephen Fry, 65, and Hugh Laurie, 64, and co-creator Richard Curtis, 66, who penned the show with comic Ben Elton, 64.
He said: “I was only given the part because it was such a rubbish part, and all their mates had turned it down.
“I had always wanted to be associated with what I called ‘Oxbridge television’, with the bright young lads but thought there was no chance because I hadn’t been to university – I left school at 16.
“I got the script and thought it was great because I would be with these people, but as for the script itself, I thought it was rubbish.”
The ‘Walking Through History’ star detailed an encounter he had with some drunken fans in the immediate aftermath of a breakup which came “out of the blue”.
Tony recalled: “As I walked out of the restaurant, the last table had about ten people who were all p*****, and they went, ‘Heyyyy, Baldrick! Come down and sit, how are you doing, what is Rowan Atkinson really like?’ and I just sat there with my heart bleeding among this storm of enthusiasm and then just staggered off into the night.”

Bianca Gascoigne ‘signs up for Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bianca Gascoigne has reportedly signed up for ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.
The former ‘Love Island’ winner – whose dad is England football legend Paul Gascoigne – is set to head to New Zealand next week to film the upcoming star studded series of the intense military training show for Channel 4.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “Bianca is ready and raring to go. She loves challenging herself, and by signing up to SAS she knows she will be pushed to her physical and mental limits.
“Bianca has been on a lot of television shows but nothing as challenging as this, and she cannot wait to get started.”
It’s said the 36-year-old star knows some people will already have “preconceptions” about her, and she’s keen to prove them wrong.
The source added: “As a former model she knows there are people who will have preconceptions of what she is like.
“She wants to show them what she is made of on SAS and those close to her think she will surprise a lot of people.”
It’s said Channel 4 bosses are “sparing little expense” on the upcoming celebrity edition of the show after deciding to cancel the civilian version.
An insider recently told the publication: “With the axe falling on the civilian version of SAS, Channel 4 wanted to reaffirm its commitment to the celebrity version.
“So they’re sparing little expense to make it a bumper offering, including extending the series, which started with just five episodes in 2019, to eight.
“It just remains to be seen which famous faces sign up for the show.”
The celebrity edition was launched four years later in 2019 and given that it has a bigger audience than the original, bosses have decided to prioritise that version.
A spokeswoman said: “Due to the huge success of ‘Celebrity SAS’ we have shifted our focus to prioritise this strand.”

Jensen Ackles would love to play Batman in The Brave and the Bold

OHMYGOSSIP — Jensen Ackles is up for playing Batman but joked Pedro Pascal would beat him to the role.
The ‘Supernatural’ actor has addressed rumours he is being lined up to become the new Bruce Wayne and his Caped Crusader alter ego in ‘The Brave and the Bold’ as DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran take their on-screen universe in a new direction.
Speaking at the Jus In Bello Convention in Italy, he said: “Uh, I don’t know. Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you.
“I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes.
“Will I be mad when Pedro Pascal gets it? Yeah. God bless you, Pedro. You just keep killing it, buddy. Let me know when you pass on something.”
He insisted there are no discussions going on at the moment amid the continuing Writers Guild of America strike.
He explained: “Look, right now nobody’s talking about anything. There’s a strike going on in the entertainment industry, and until that gets solved, nobody is having conversations about anything.”
However, he joked that the decision to play Batman would be an absolute no brainer if the offer did come in.
He quipped: “Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time? Nah, I’m good.
“It seems like a lot of work, you know. You gotta put in a bat suit and be a superhero. I would love it. Sign me up.”
‘The Brave and the Bold’ will be helmed by ‘The Flash’ director Andy Muschietti.
In a statement, Gunn and Safran said: “We saw ‘The Flash’ even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan.
“It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame.
“So, when it came time to find a director for ‘The Brave and the Bold’, there was really only one choice.
“Luckily, Andy said yes… We couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”

Gal Gadot drops huge Wonder Woman hint

OHMYGOSSIP — Gal Gadot has hinted she may not have finished portraying Wonder Woman.
It was reported in December that ‘Wonder Woman 3’ was not moving forward, but Gadot – who was due to reprise her role as the superhero after starring in the first two films – has dropped a huge hint she might not be done playing the character.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ at Netflix’s Tudum fan festival: “Things are being worked behind the scenes and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it.”
In December, Gadot – who was thought to be in line for $20 million from the third film – admitted she was “so grateful” to have starred as such an “iconic character” in two movies.
She tweeted: “A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman.I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU.The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you (sic)”
Just days later, it was reported the third film in the franchise – which was to be directed by Patty Jenkins – was “considered dead in its current incarnation”, multiple sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
James Gunn and Peter Safran – who were appointed as co-chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios last year – and Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy were said to have told Jenkins the project currently doesn’t fit in with the latest DC plans.
A week later, Jenkins insisted she did not “walk away” from the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise, and told how she was “open to considering anything asked of me” in terms of making the third film.
In part of a statement released on her Twitter account, she wrote at the time: “When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread.
“This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now. (sic)”

Michelle Collins ‘honoured’ to return to EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Collins feels “honoured” to be back in ‘EastEnders’ after her character Cindy Beale returned from the dead on Wednesday night (21.06.23).
The 61-year-old star’s character died off-screen 25 years ago, but in last night’s episode of the BBC One soap she was revealed as Rose Knight, the long-lost wife of George Knight (Colin Salmon).
Michelle said: “For over 25 years I’ve constantly been asked ‘are you going back’ and now finally I can say I am!
“It’s an honour to be asked to reprise the role of Cindy Beale, a character that has really never left me, and just like the old days, where Cindy goes, drama usually follows.”
Cindy is returning to Albert Square alongside her ex Ian Beale, which will see the return of Adam Woodyatt to reprise his role.
He said: “It’s weird saying Ian’s back as it never really felt like he was gone, Ian still existed just not in Walford.
“Now that he is back, he needs to avoid Sharon cooking carbonara and his mum getting him cufflinks for Christmas!”
Chris Clenshaw, executive producer, added: “It’s an honour to not simply welcome back just one ‘EastEnders’ icon in the name of Adam Woodyatt, but to welcome Michelle Collins back to Walford to reprise her role as the legendary Cindy Beale after 25 years is somewhat surreal.
“Cindy’s been sorely missed from our screens, and we’re delighted that she’ll be returning to Walford, alongside Ian, permanently later this year.
“Now everyone knows that she is in fact Rose Knight, secrets are set to be revealed as viewers will learn about the circumstances surrounding their return, including the million dollar question – how is Cindy alive when she was declared dead in 1998 – and later this summer Ian and Cindy’s comeback will be nothing less than explosive for the Square.”
Cindy was known in Walford for her scheming and manipulative behaviour, which included several affairs during her tumultuous relationship with Ian.
She last appeared on screen in 1998, and viewers were led to believe that she had died off-screen while giving birth to namesake daughter, leaving her children Steven, Lucy and Peter behind.
Ian fled Walford in 2021 after his former best friend and wife Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) attempted to poison him in revenge for his involvement in her son Denny’s death.
Last year, Ian briefly returned for Dot Cotton’s (June Brown) funeral and took a phone call from a mystery person, who is now known to be Cindy.

Molly-Mae Hague departs PrettyLittleThing creative director role

OHMYGOSSIP — Molly-Mae Hague has departed her PrettyLittleThing creative director role to focus on motherhood.
The former ‘Love Island’ star, 24, has walked away from the position after 22 months, to turn more of her attention to her four-month-old daughter Bambi – who she has with her boyfriend Tommy Fury, 24 – but she will remain with the fashion brand as an ambassador.
Molly – who was reportedly paid £400,000 a month for the role – confirmed the announcement on her YouTube channel, telling viewers: “A lot of people have been asking me about PLT creative director, how’s the role going, how’s everything going with PLT, and everything is going incredibly with PLT… I will forever have the most insane relationship with PLT… they are literally my family. I am still working with them and doing collections and edits, but I have actually decided to step down as my creative director role.
“Over the last few weeks, I have realised that I’m only going to get this time once with my first-born child and I’m only going to get Bambi being four months old once and I feel like I’ve had to rearrange my life a little bit and lose some commitments that I did have.
“Myself and PLT have decided collectively that as much as the creative director role was incredible and I have literally loved being the creative director of PLT more than anything it was such an amazing chapter for me it has naturally come to an end.
“I am a mum now and I never really gave myself a maternity leave and I got straight back into work instantly because my work is my phone and showing my life is my work. The last thing I would want to be is in a role that I can’t fulfil right this moment.
“There is no drama, there is absolutely no tea … nothing has gone on.”
Molly’s departure comes just two months after the online outlet’s founder Umar Kamani quit to pursue new opportunities.

Brookside star Louis Emerick given suspended jail sentence

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Emerick has been given a suspended jail sentence after he hit two 12-year-old girls with his car.
The 65-year-old former ‘Brookside’ and ‘Coronation Street’ actor had admitted causing serious injury by careless driving on October 2nd, 2022, and he was handed a 26-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months, at Wirral Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (21.06.23).
He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and was handed an 18-month driving ban.
The court heard one of the girls suffered a broken leg, and the other suffered fractures to her left leg, right ankle, jaw, and nose, and four damaged teeth.
When asked how he would’ve felt if the girls – who cannot be named for legal reasons – hadn’t recovered from their injuries, he said: “God knows, my life would have been over. I would have been destroyed.
“I don’t know how I could have lived with myself if one of them had died.”
Emerick – who appeared in court under his full name Louis Emerick Grant – had not been speeding, and he did not test positive for drink and drugs.
He explained: “I think the sun was in my eyes and that was it.”
A mother of one of the girls insisted it was “an accident”.
She said: “We don’t hold grudges with the driver. He has been in touch and apologised.
“I realise it was an accident, I don’t want him punished for an accident.”
Natasha Williamson, prosecuting, admitted Emerick had called the emergency services following the incident and co-operated with the police, but said: “He should have slowed down if his view was impaired by the sun.”
Tony Nelson, defending, said: “He utterly and deeply regrets his error on the day in question.”
Nelson also told the court that Emerick – who played taxi driver Mick Johnson on ‘Brookside’ – had no previous convictions and had been driving for nearly 50 years with a clean licence.
Sentencing Emerick, Peter Mawdesley, chairman of the bench, said: “Since the accident you have clearly shown remorse and contrition and taken various steps to contact the victims and their parents.”

Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise plan Mission: Impossible films thoroughly

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher McQuarrie thoroughly plans the ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies.
The 54-year-old director is back behind the camera on ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ and explained how the notion that he and leading man Tom Cruise wing it during the making of the blockbusters is incorrect.
Christopher told Collider: “Tom and I never obsess about executing the plan. We always have a direction, we always have a place we’re going.
“In our trying to describe the process, in retrospect, it sounds as though what we do is just flying by the seat of our pants and making it up as we go along. That’s not an accurate description. You are definitely flying in a direction, you’re definitely prepared.
“You couldn’t be that cavalier without somebody getting seriously physically hurt. These things are planned within an inch of their life. Along the way, we see a shiny object and go for it.”
The new film is to be followed by the sequel ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ next year although the director is not certain as to how the blockbuster will end.
McQuarrie said: “I don’t know what the ending of ‘Part Two’ is, so I couldn’t tell you. I’m not being evasive. I could tell you that I know what the end of ‘Part Two’ is, but I can’t guarantee that that will be the ending when we get there.”
The filmmaker has expressed hope that his latest flick can eclipse the success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – which he produced.
Christopher told Total Film magazine: “We don’t see ourselves in competition with Bond or ‘John Wick’. We love those movies, and we admire those filmmakers, and we want to see those guys win. All we’re really doing is competing with ourselves.
“And coming away from ‘Top Gun’, we looked at the movie, and said, ‘We’re going to bury those guys. We’re going to crush ‘Top Gun’.’
“That’s how we look at it. Our only rivals are ourselves. You’ll see things in ‘Part Two’ that benefit entirely from everything we learned from ‘Maverick’.”

Jess Wright wants to make postnatal depression documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Wright wants to make a documentary about postnatal depression.
The former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star – who has 13-month-old son Presley with her husband William Lee-Kemp, 40 – wants to help other mothers by making a television programme about new mum mental health struggles.
The 37-year-old reality television personality told OK! magazine: “Knowledge is power. This is why I want to do a documentary, I want to know the ins and outs of it. I want to know the hows, the whys, if we can prevent it, if it’s chemical or if it’s environmental. I have so many questions, because for me, the more you know about something when you’re going through it, the more help you can get.”
Jess was always able to determine that what she was going through after giving birth was “100 per cent depression”, as she has previous experience with the condition.
She said: “I know what depression feels like and it was a form of that. I was open about it, I came out and told everyone because I wanted to help others.
“I’ve had people reach out about it, and I want to do more because it’s not spoken about enough and it’s something that needs to be addressed. So many women suffer in silence.”
The ‘Dance All Night’ hitmaker wanted to be clear that parenthood is “the biggest blessing of life” and didn’t want to come across as ungrateful.
Jess said: “Having a baby is the biggest blessing of life, so to then say that you feel down at the time that baby enters the world, it’s not nice.
“There are people that struggle to have children and also it makes it seem like you’re not happy that you have your baby. But that’s not it, it’s just a general feeling that consumes your body and your mind and you can’t control it.”

James Mangold was guided by Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones work

OHMYGOSSIP — James Mangold was heavily influenced by Steven Spielberg during the making of ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’.
The 59-year-old director has replaced Spielberg behind the camera in the final installment of the franchise and was always referring back to his iconic predecessor’s work.
Speaking to Variety, James said: “I wasn’t looking to make the movie my own. I would say I was looking to have a voice.
“You don’t want me doing a knockoff Steven, but I want to be playing from the same hymnal, using the same tools. I mean, I’m pitch-hitting for Babe Ruth. I at least have to use my own swing some of the time.
“But the reality is, every day I’m thinking of what he would do, how he would do it. In any way I could, I wanted to do the movie in his style. It didn’t feel threatening to me at all.”
James did often speak with the ‘Jaws’ filmmaker during the making of the flick about the “mechanics” of an Indy movie.
He recalled: “Steven told me, ‘Think of shooting an ‘Indiana Jones’ movie like you’re shooting a trailer – no scene can ever last too long.'”
Mangold knew that his picture would be compared to those that came before and was unsurprised when it got a mixed response from critics.
The ‘Logan’ director said: “When you’re in franchise land, it’s very hard for critical thinkers to overlook what I’m sure their editors want, which is the business prism of how does it rate to the other ones?
“I always thought if I were second or third best to one of the greatest films of all time, I’d be good. I mean, it all vaporises later. Either the movie will live or it won’t.”

Adele Roberts leaving BBC Radio 1 after ‘incredible 8 years’

OHMYGOSSIP — Adele Roberts is leaving BBC Radio 1 after “an incredible eight years”.
The radio presenter, 44, is officially departing the station and presented her last programme in May, after being open about her battle against bowel cancer, which she beat in June 2022.
Aled Haydn Jones, the head of BBC Radio 1, said: “She continually goes above and beyond for others and I want to say a huge thank you to her for everything.
“Whether it’s key workers during the pandemic on her show, other people’s health during her own diagnosis of cancer.”
Adele’s slot will be taken over by Sam MacGregor and Danni Diston, with the pair set to co-host the new Weekend Breakfast show when it relocates from London to Cardiff.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ star – who first joined the public broadcaster as a presenter on BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2012, before landing Radio 1’s Early Breakfast show gig in 2015 – first revealed she had cancer in October 2021.
Adele recently broke a world record when she became the fastest woman to complete the London Marathon with a stoma bag, which she has dubbed ‘Audrey’.
Upon finishing the race, she said: “We got the record. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh did we actually do it?’
“For ages I didn’t know my time because my watch broke and I couldn’t tell because I set off quite late … so I was just really hoping that I’d managed to do it.
“Thank you so much to everybody who was actually in the race, there was so many lovely people on the course and also everybody who came out to cheer even though it was raining.
“We did it, up yours cancer.”
Adele insisted her achievement proved “anything is possible”.
She wrote on Instagram: “We’ve just set a #GuinnessWorldRecord for the fastest marathon with an ileostomy … less then 12 months since I stopped chemotherapy. Anything is possible.
“For those warriors living with cancer, for all the incredible ostomates around the UK and for the heroes of the NHS. That was for you.”

‘I’m a human!’ Love Island’s Leah Taylor lashes out over Sammy Root’s ‘test’ comment

OHMYGOSSIP — Sammy Root chose to pair up with Jess Harding in a shock recoupling on ‘Love Island’.
The 22-year-old project manager had been flirting with social media marketer Leah, 27, on the hit ITV2 reality dating show when he and his fellow Islanders were notified that an immediate recoupling would take place, and left Leah in tears after commenting that she had been a “test” piece.
Speaking on Sunday’s (18.06.23) episode, she said: “It was really bad when all the boys were speaking and Sammy stood up and said ‘Yeah, we’ve had a little test!’ I was a bit like…sorry but he’s come and pulled me for every single chat. Of course, I was flirting back but he was the one giving me them vibes. You haven’t for a second since then just pulled me and been like ‘Oh by the way, just so you know, I’m fooling with Jess.’
“How are you gonna be that flirty with me and say all that stuff and then just stand there and call me a test? I’m a human! I was a bit like that. I just felt so horrible. It’s just rubbish, I didn’t want someone to just flirt with me.
“That’s just rubbish. It just makes me feel just rubbish. It’s a bit out of order that Sammy just stood up there and labelled me as a test. That’s so rude. I’m not here just to be someone’s test! I feel like, yeah, it’s just upsetting me!”
Leah was eventually coupled up with Mitch Taylor, who reasoned that she was “very down to earth” and quipped that she has a “good body” as well.
Zachariah Noble had been left single after Charlotte Sumner left the island on Friday so opted to pair up with Molly Marsh whilst Mehdi Edno decided to remain with Whitney Adebayo and Tyrique Hyde decided to return to Ella Thomas after a week of being coupled up with Leah.
‘Love Island’ continues tomorrow at 9PM on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player, proudly sponsored by Virgin Media Mobile.
The reality show can also be seen on ITV2.
