Tom Cruise urges fans to see Barbie and other films in the cinema this summer

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise has urged people to head to the cinema this summer to catch films like ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’.
The ‘Mission: Impossible’ star took to Instagram to encourage people to see movies on the big screen despite the glorious weather, amid a challenging time for cinemas.
As well as paying tribute to ‘Indiana Jones’ legend Harrison Ford as the fifth film hit screens, Cruise said he’s looking forward to Greta Gerwig’s Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-starring live-action ‘Barbie’ film and Christopher Nolan’s biographical thriller.
He wrote: “This summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters. These are just a few that we can’t wait to see on the big screen.
“Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indiana Jones and creating one of the most iconic characters in cinema history. You have given us countless hours of joy.
“I love a double feature, and it doesn’t get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.”
The Hollywood star was seen in one picture in the post holding his Cineworld cinema ticket.
The cinema chain was hit particularly hard amid the COVID-19 pandemic and was facing closure, but it has been saved from bankruptcy.
Meanwhile, Tom recently hailed ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ is the perfect entry point into the franchise for newcomers.
The 60-year-old actor starred in the first ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie in 1996, and Tom believes the new film could help to attract new, younger viewers to the franchise.
He told Collider: “They could start with this film to see and understand that this is all real, all the action is real, it’s practical. This movie is an epic adventure.
“It’s so lush, filled with practical action and amazing locations.”
Tom believes the new film has a “very engrossing story”.
The veteran actor also hailed the movie’s star-studded cast, which includes Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg.
He said: “[The movie has] submarines, it has the desert, it has Rome, beautiful locations in Abu Dhabi, Norway, a train that we built, action on the train, and a very engrossing story with a really beautiful cast, an amazing, very charismatic cast.
“I think when you look at this movie, it really defines what I think about cinema and why because you look at this kind of cast, you look at a brilliant ensemble cast, and the kind of story is very engrossing.”

Evan Peters to star in Tron Ares

OHMYGOSSIP — Evan Peters has joined the cast of ‘Tron Ares’.
The ‘American Horror Story’ star – who portrays Quicksilver in ‘The X-Men’ movies – will appear alongside Jared Leto in the third film in the ‘Tron’ franchise.
According to Deadline, the motion picture could start shooting in August in Vancouver if there isn’t a SAG strike.
Joachim Ronning is to direct the movie, in which Leto will star as lead character Ares, a manifestation of the Tron program.
It’s not yet known who Peters will portray in the film, but he is expected to take on the part of either a gamer in the human world, or a soldier in the virtual realm.
In January, it was revealed Leto had signed up to star in the third film in the franchise, 13 years after the sequel, ‘Tron: Legacy’, was released.
It starred the original 1982 film’s lead actor Jeff Bridges alongside Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.
‘Tron: Legacy’ hit cinemas 28 years after the original film, which told the story of a computer hacker who is transported into a computer program called the Grid and forced to take part challenges.
The sequel was directed by Joseph Kosinski, but plans for him to helm the third instalment were scrapped in 2015 after years of development.
A further attempt to revive the franchise again in 2020, with director Garth Davis in charge, also floundered before getting off the ground again with a push from Leto, who is also listed among the third film’s producers, alongside Emma Ludbrook and Jeffrey Springer.

Love Island’s Molly Marsh: Zachariah’s Kady kiss snub was karma

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Molly Marsh thinks it was “karma” that her ex Zachariah Noble was snubbed for a smooch by Kady McDermott, just two days after she was dumped from the villa.
The 21-year-old musical theatre performer found it “quite funny” to see Kady – who has returned to ‘Love Island’ after first appearing in the second series seven years ago – pull away from Zachariah when he attempted to kiss her.
The non-kiss occurred all while Zachariah was wearing a bracelet given to him by his ex Molly, who left the villa on Friday (23.06.23) in a shock elimination.
Molly told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Seeing him now cracking on with Kady, I would’ve thought that I was more important than after two days wanting to go straight in for the kiss – that’s a lot quite soon.
“He’s kind of got to do this, he’s in there and he can’t just sit and wait for me.
“But I do think it was quite funny and karma has come around that Kady pied him.
“I think it was what he needed. Has he forgotten he’s got my bracelet on?!”
Since departing the villa, Molly has admitted she would wait for Zachariah on the outside, and she regrets not telling him that moments before she had to leave the ITV2 dating show.
She added: “I suppose I do feel a bit silly. I’d hope I was still in his mind but I don’t know if I am anymore.
“Zach and I spoke very quickly, we literally hugged each other. I wish I did say more to him, we hardly said anything to each other.
“That’s one thing I regret. It’s frustrating.”
Earlier this week, Mehdi Edno and Mal Nicol were eliminated from the villa in a double dumping.

Kate Garraway made ‘fool of herself’ after failing to recognise famous footballer after collecting MBE

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway made a “fool” of herself when she failed to recognise Gareth Bale after receiving her MBE at Windsor Castle.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter was accompanied by her husband Derek Draper at the ceremony on Wednesday (28.06.23), but she didn’t realise she was speaking to the Welsh star, and later made a faux pas with another famous footballer.
She said on ‘Good Morning Britain’: “After that lovely moment and, of course, the Prince of Wales is so lovely and makes everything very special for everybody.
“You obviously have a long wait for your moment and in beautiful state rooms and what you realise is apart from being ridiculously honoured to have one yourself, you’re with all these incredible people who have done have [amazing things].
“I was walking along pushing Derek through and we walked past somebody, a very dashing young man and a beautiful girl and I was taken with her and her lovely outfit so I said, ‘Congratulations.’
“As we went past, Derek said, ‘That’s Gareth Bale,’ and I said, ‘Oh was it?’
“Later, I spoke to a different group of people and told them, ‘I’ve just made a total fool of myself and not recognised Gareth Bale,’ and then started chatting to them, ‘Which of you are receiving [an honour]?'”
But Kate was unaware she was speaking to Liverpool and Scotland footballer Andy Robertson.
She explained: “I said, ‘I’ve just made a fool of myself’ and he said, ‘Well you’ve done it with me too.’ ”
Kate also revealed she has lost an important card that came with her MBE and explains when she is supposed to wear the honour.
She added: “You get presented by the lovely Prince of Wales and then as you go outside they take it off you and put it in a box.
“I said, ‘Oh, am I not allowed to wear it?’ And they said, ‘There’s a card inside which tells you the specific occasions you’re supposed to wear it.’ I’ve lost the card.
“So I’m just going to wear it all the time.”

Lin Blakley joins Emmerdale

OHMYGOSSIP — Lin Blakley has joined the cast of ‘Emmerdale’.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star – who played Pam Coker in the BBC One soap – is to star as Georgia Sharma, who was originally played by ‘The Bill’ legend Trudie Goodwin, in the ITV show.
Lin said: “How lucky am I to play such a strong character as Georgia.
“So different from roles I’ve played of late. I have enjoyed every single minute.
“Gorgeous cast and crew!! And the gorgeous Dales. Thank you, ‘Emmerdale’.”
No-nonsense Georgia is set to ruffle some feathers on the eve of her son Jai Sharma’s (Chris Bisson) wedding to Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).
Producer Kate Brooks said: “We’re thrilled to have an actor of Lin’s calibre step into the role of the formidable Georgia.
“A force to be reckoned with, she’ll have a secret for the Sharmas that could potentially blow their world apart.”
Lin appeared in ‘EastEnders’ from 2014 to 2019 and then returned for some brief stints.
During her main spell on the soap, Lin worked closely with Harry Reid, who portrayed Ben Mitchell, but when she returned to Albert Square she worked alongside Max Bowden, who took over the role from Harry.
In October 2019, Lin admitted she thought it might be “weird” working alongside a new Ben actor.
She told Digital Spy: “I loved Harry [Reid], he is a gorgeous kid and so is Max equally – he is a lovely actor. It just felt really natural as if I had worked with him before.
“Obviously I miss Harry, and I did think it was going to be weird, but it wasn’t at all.”
Lin also admitted she is grateful to ‘EastEnders’ for giving her the role as Pam, because the part “opened a few doors” for her as an actress.
She added: “I absolutely love everything about it. I’m glad they chose me because it certainly opened a few more doors for me as an actress.
“Coming back into the business at the end of 2003 I didn’t quite expect to do something like this.
“Being in people’s homes four nights a week. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for that.”

Huw Edwards’ social media fear

OHMYGOSSIP — Huw Edwards is wary about what he posts on social media in case it ruins his career.
The ‘BBC News At Ten’ anchor has reacted to the Gary Lineker controversy – when the ‘Match of the Day’ presenter was suspended for critiquing the UK government’s approach to refugees – by being more “careful” about what puts on Twitter.
The 61-year-old broadcaster is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: “I have to be careful about what I say. I can’t be in a position where I’m straying into something political.
“So I do far less on social media than I used to. I don’t go on social media unless I’m careful … and that includes what you like and what you might retweet.”
Huw admitted that he and his workmates used to be “very enthusiastic tweeters”, but they have now cut back on their use of the website.
He said: “I rowed back and lots of my colleagues have too. Lots of them were very enthusiastic tweeters at first, but they don’t tweet any more.”
The Tric Award winner acknowledged that people in his position were “right in the firing line” for everything you do and say due to the nature of the way the license fee funds the BBC.
Huw said: “BBC presenters are right in the firing line. People want to provoke you into saying something.”
The newsreader recently gave his social media followers a “reality check” when he shot down rumours he was departing the public broadcaster, amid a number of veterans leaving the BBC.
Along with a picture of him drinking some fizz with his mother Aerona, he wrote: “Reality check. A standard HR exercise by @BBCNews (one of many over the years) is just that. A standard invitation to consider applying for voluntary redundancy. Nothing more. As my mam says, don’t believe everything in the papers.”

Christine McGuinness: The thought of dating is my worst nightmare

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine McGuinness says the thought of dating is her “worst nightmare”.
The 35-year-old star admitted the idea of going on a series of dates to find a new man, following her split from husband Paddy McGuinness, 39, is “petrifying” because she has “never really done it” before.
The documentary-maker told the Daily Star newspaper: “The thought of dating is actually my worst nightmare. I’ve just never really done it.
“When I met my husband, we were friends first. I think that helped, it worked because I never had that pressure of, ‘What do I wear? Where do I go? What is the food going to be like? Will I like the restaurant?’
“The idea of dating, for me, is petrifying.”
Christine – who was diagnosed with autism two years ago – confessed that a “typical date” poses many “sensory” issues, like talking to strangers and eating in unknown venues.
She is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: “It’s sensory for me. A typical date, from what my friends would say, is you go for dinner, or you might have some drinks.
“I don’t drink and I don’t really enjoy eating in different places with people that I don’t know. Once I’m comfortable with someone, that’s lovely.
“But I don’t know how I am supposed to get to that point.”
The ex ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’ star admitted she receives a lot of messages on Instagram from men, but she is concentrating on her career and being a mum for now.
Christine – who has three children, nine-year-old twins Leo and Penelope and six-year-old Felicity, with Paddy – said: “My Instagram isn’t [dating app] Raya!
“Nothing has really changed. I don’t feel like a young, free and single person.
“Life’s good. I’m just very calm and peaceful and I don’t want anything to disturb that right now.”

Millie Court enjoys huge success with her Sagittarius Style company

OHMYGOSSIP — Millie Court is making more than £10,000 a week.
The 26-year-old TV star won ‘Love Island’ in 2021 and she’s subsequently achieved significant success through her own company, Sagittarius Style.
The business has been named after the necklace that Millie wore in the ‘Love Island’ villa and it banked £614,042 up till last December, according to The Sun newspaper.
Millie worked as a buyer for Asos before she starred on the ITV show. But the blonde beauty signed a multi-million pound deal to be the face of Asos after leaving the villa, and she subsequently agreed a six-figure deal with the eyelash brand Eyelure, too.
Millie – who won ‘Love Island’ alongside Liam Reardon – is also able to make huge sums through her sizeable social media following, which includes more than a million followers on Instagram.
Meanwhile, Millie and Liam recently rekindled their romance, nine months after they split.
A source told MailOnline: “Millie and Liam have been talking again, but it’s early days for them.
“They weren’t expecting to get back together after their break-up was so painful for them both, but months have passed, and they still couldn’t stop thinking about each other.
“Coming out of ‘Love Island’ was a whirlwind and now they’re just looking to take things slowly and see if they can rebuild their relationship, which may take some time.”
Liam subsequently confirmed the news and explained that they were making a concerted effort to “make it work”.
He told The Sun newspaper: “Of course, when people break up and get back together sometimes it doesn’t always work. But if you get back together and really make an effort to make it work, it can work.”

Jennifer Lawrence: It’s hard to make a comedy where you’re not offending people

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Lawrence thinks it’s hard to make a comedy “where you’re not offending people”.
The 32-year-old actress stars alongside Andrew Barth Feldman, Laura Benanti, and Matthew Broderick in the new coming-of-age rom-com ‘No Hard Feelings’, and Jennifer has predicted that “everyone” will be offended by the movie in one way or another.
The award-winning star told Sky News: “I think it’s time for just a good old-fashioned laugh. And it really is hard to make a comedy where you’re not offending people. Everybody in some sense will be offended by this film – you’re welcome.”
Jennifer plays the part of Maddie, an Uber driver who is facing bankruptcy after her car is repossessed.
The Hollywood star admits that she’s been keen to make a comedy movie for a while.
She said: “I was definitely always open to a comedy.
“I wouldn’t say I was like: ‘I really want my character to try to have sex with a young person’, but I just read it and it was the funniest thing I’d ever read.”
Meanwhile, Andrew Barth Feldman believes the movie does an excellent job of “continuing to push limits”.
The 21-year-old actor plays the part of Percy, who Maddie tries to seduce in return for money, and Andrew relished being part of the project.
He said: “We need to be able to engage with being offended.
“There was and is like a big over-correct because we realised there were so many things that we were joking about that we shouldn’t be … and I think this movie does a really good job of continuing to push limits while still engaging with the conversation that the things that these people are doing are wrong, and not a good idea.”

Eamonn Holmes gets pooch Maggie made into bronze statue

OHMYGOSSIP — Eamonn Holmes got his pooch Maggie made into a bronze statue.
The GB News anchor admitted his wife Ruth Langsford, 63, branded him “sick in the head” for him wanting to get his 14-year-old mutt taxidermied when she eventually goes to the great farm in the sky, and so he had to take a different approach.
The 63-year-old broadcaster told the ‘Oh My Dog!’ podcast: “I said, ‘Ruthie, she’s getting on and I think we should make an enquiry to the taxidermist to see if we can have her stuffed.’
“She called me sick in the head. So that was ruled out!
“One day, I was walking through this race meeting, and there was this display by a woman who had all these paintings and sculptures of animals.
“I thought, I’m not going to ask Ruth about this as it’ll be a straight no – so basically, she’s created a bronze statue of the dog. It’s the best money I’ve ever spent.”
Eamonn also admitted he couldn’t “resist” the opportunity to speak to “a dog psychic”.
He explained: “A dog psychic asked to see me once, said she had very important news for me, and I couldn’t resist this.
“This dog psychic came to the house and said, ‘Maggie wants to know why you don’t let her kiss you on the lips.’ I said, ‘Tell Maggie that’s a pleasure for a precious few.’
“Then she said, ‘Maggie also wants to know why you don’t bring her to the seaside. She loves the seaside.’ And I said, ‘Because f****** 65 miles away, that’s why. I love the seaside too, so there you go.”
The former ‘This Morning’ star confessed that he found “quite quickly” that the experience “wasn’t for” him.
He added: “I concluded quite quickly that the psychic doggie medium wasn’t for me.”

Paris Lees’ memoir What It Feels Like A Girl lands BBC Three adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Paris Lees is turning her memoir ‘What It Feels Like A Girl’ into a BBC Three series.
The Vogue columnist will write and executive produce an eight-part adaption of her autobiography – which tells the tale of her growing up in an East Midlands council estate in the 90s and 00s and her journey as a transgender woman – for the youth-centric channel, and she believes the commission proves that the LGBTQ+ community are “not shutting up”.
The writer said: “I’m excited, hysterical, thrown and overblown with bliss, but most of all I’m just having so much fun bringing this universe to life in a visual medium.
“It’s a primal scream – from the depths of a council estate – against a world that would prefer people who don’t fit the norm didn’t exist. But we do and we’re not going away, we’re not apologising and we’re not shutting up.
“This is a deeply personal project and I’m thrilled to be working with the BBC and the team at Hera who have been so supportive of both me and my creative vision.
“The fact Chris Sweeney is directing, well, I feel like I’m top of the pops. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’re cooking up.”
Director Chris added: “What a team to be making this with. Paris is a unique talent, Hera Pictures are an extraordinary bunch, and the team at the BBC have been so supportive of what is a truly special story. I’m very excited about this show.”
And Liza Marshall, the executive producer at Hera Pictures, hailed Paris as “a truly exciting talent”.
She said: “Paris is a truly exciting talent. She has created a daringly distinctive world, richly drawn characters that viewers will fall in love with, and a compelling story that will challenge perceptions.
“With Paris, the BBC and Chris Sweeney, we have found the dream team of creative partners and we could not be more thrilled to be working with them to bring this ground-breaking series to life in a way that is just as funny, gobby, joyful, heart-breaking, and thought-provoking as her original memoir.”

Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell swap Britain’s Got Talent for Bake Off for special occasion

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell surprised children at her daughter’s school by judging cakes at their bake sale.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ co-stars are more used to having their say on all sorts of weird and wonderful performers, but they took inspiration from ‘The Great British Bake Off’ as they tried out the bake goods on offer.
Speaking on ‘Heart Breakfast’ this week, Amanda said: “They asked me at my daughter’s school, would I go and judge some cakes, and I was like ‘Hmm I’m going to have to think about it’.
“So yes they had a tent, it was fantastically set up, all the kids making cakes. They were all sort of given sort of different themes. My favourite cake was a cross country run.
“It was a bright green cake and they’d made a run track out of chocolate drops and I thought there were turtles running on the track but they weren’t.
“They were humans and it had like a finish line, but that was one of my favourites.”
The 52-year-old star – who has daughters Lexi, 17, and Hollie, 11, with husband Chris Hughes – revealed she was in the middle of judging the cakes “on the appearance and sort of creativity and team effort” when ‘BGT’ boss Simon walked in as an added surprise.
She revealed: “They lost their minds, these kids! And he came in, armed with a fork and then we sort of decided the winner between us based on taste.”
There was an awkward moment earlier in the day when Amanda was faced with “an abomination” of a cake, although thankfully it tasted a lot better than it looked.
She said: “There was one sort of Christmas cake that looked an abomination, there were only two people in this team.
“And I did feel bad for them and it looked awful, and I thought ‘Oh my god I’m going to have to put my fork in that and eat that’ and it was actually a very good sponge.”

This Morning will celebrate George Michael on what would have been his 60th birthday

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘This Morning’ will pay tribute to George Michael ahead of what would have been his 60th birthday.
The late Wham! star – who died on Christmas Day 2016 – would have hit the milestone age on Sunday (25.06.23) and so two days earlier, the ITV daytime show will pay tribute to one of its most avid watchers.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper “George was a big fan of ‘This Morning’ and with both [Alison Hammond] and [Dermot O’Leary] being such huge music fans – particularly of the 80s and 90s – they are sure to provide a fun show.
“Viewers will be reminded of some of the heartwarming moments George did on ‘This Morning’, a look back at his career and legacy.”
George previously made an anonymous donation of £50,000 to a ‘This Morning’ Christmas appeal, and went onto strike up a friendship with Richard Madeley, who was hosting alongside his wife Judy Finnigan at the time.
The ‘Faith’ hitmaker also used to call into the show, and he at one point he secretly paid for viewer Jo Maidment IVF treatment after hearing her speak about her plight on air.
Her first round of IVF resulted in a miscarriage, and George anonymously sent her flowers from both himself and his assistant.
The following year, 2012, she used frozen embryos from the first round and gave birth to daughter Betsy, who was nicknamed the “This Morning miracle baby”.
When it came to paying for the IVF, George claimed to be a businessman and didn’t reveal his identity until he sent a card congratulating her on the birth of Betsy.
Jo will appear on Friday’s show with her daughter, as well as George’s longtime partner Kenny Goss, and singer Calum Scott will treat viewers to a rendition of one of George’s classic songs, while there will still be other segments not related to the late star.

Christopher Nolan: Oppenheimer can be seen as a horror film

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan thinks ‘Oppenheimer’ can be considered a “horror movie”.
The 52-year-old director has helmed the new blockbuster about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, and feels that it is darker than his previous projects.
Speaking to Wired magazine, Christopher said: “It is an intense experience, because it’s an intense story. I showed it to a filmmaker recently, who said it’s kind of a horror movie. I don’t disagree.
“It’s interesting that you used the word nihilism earlier, because I don’t think I’d quite managed to put my finger on it. But as I started to finish the film, I started to feel this colour that’s not in my other films, just darkness. It’s there. The film fights against that.”
Christopher revealed that the film – which has an all-star cast featuring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh – has had a profound impact on those who have watched early screenings.
The ‘Inception’ director said: “Some people leave the movie absolutely devastated. They can’t speak. I mean, there’s an element of fear that’s there in the history and there in the underpinnings.
“But the love of the characters, the love of the relationships, is as strong as I’ve ever done.”
Nolan confessed that he was “relieved” to have completed the movie as it had left him emotionally drained.
He explained: “I was relieved to be finished with it, actually.
“But I enjoy watching the film tremendously. I think you’ll understand when you see the film. It’s a complicated set of feelings to be entertained by awful things, you know? Which is where the horror dimension comes in.”
