Ross Kemp heading to prison for new TV show

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp is heading to jail for his latest documentary show.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star will be seen living with criminals in his new Channel 5 series ‘Ross Kemp: 72 Hours In’ in which will investigate what it’s like to be incarcerated alongside killers, gang members and drug barons in jails across the world.
According to The Sun newspaper, he said: “I’ve been to some of the world’s toughest prisons. I thought I’d experienced it all, but this time we’re going even further.”
Filming will begin this summer and Ross, 58, will head to different institutions across the globe including South America and Asia.
It comes after it was revealed Ross turned down the chance to make a documentary on the doomed Titan submersible which imploded in June killing everyone on board during a trip to view the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean.
Ross’ agent, InterTalent boss Professor Jonathan Shalit, revealed the idea was eventually shelved over safety fears. He told The Sun: “Their team checked out this OceanGate submersible and pulled out of using it, as it was simply not considered safe or fit for purpose. “They found other sub dives which have been safe and successful, but by that point Ross was so busy with all his TV shows that he was unable to commit the time. “I am just relieved not to have had my post note in history as the agent who killed Ross Kemp.”
OceanGate’s Titan submersible went missing with five passengers on board in June during a mission to view the Titanic. It was later revealed the five men aboard the mini-sub died instantly when it suffered a “catastrophic” implosion. They were named as billionaire Hamish Harding, 55, businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Suleman, 19, OceanGate chief Stockton Rush, 61, and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77.

Elizabeth Banks would love to direct Cocaine Bear sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Banks would love to bring ‘Cocaine Bear’ back to the big screen for a sequel.
The actress-turned-director stepped behind the camera to take charge of the creature feature – which follows the path of a black bear on a drug-fuelled rampage in a Georgia forest – and she had so much fun making the movie she has confessed she’d love to return for a follow-up.
She told Rolling Stone: “I loved how subversive, crazy, silly and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast … We had a lot [of] fun, and if I got the opportunity to surprise the audience and delight myself again, I would take it.”
Elizabeth added of the movie: “I’ve been very fortunate to work across a lot of genres and things that appeal to me. ‘Cocaine Bear’ also came to me during the pandemic. We were all locked away, and I loved the sense of fun inside of it. It was what I wanted to see. And it had this message about mankind’s culpability in nature’s demise. It spoke to me on a lot of levels.”
The movie is inspired by the true story of an American black bear that ingested a duffel bag full of cocaine dropped by drug smugglers in 1985 and the crew wanted the animal – which was designed by Peter Jackson’s Weta FX company – to look as a realistic as possible. Producer Chris Miller told The Hollywood Reporter: “It was very important to us and very important to Elizabeth to make sure that you really believe the bear, because if you didn’t then the whole movie is pointless. “They studied actual crazy things that bears do, bear movements and stuff, and then we goosed it a little bit.” Elizabeth previously acknowledged that she was putting her career at risk by making the bizarre movie. She explained: “‘Cocaine Bear’ is a ginormous risk. This could be a career ender for me.”

Francis Ford Coppola: Barbenheimer is a victory for cinema

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Ford Coppola has called ‘Barbenheimer’ a “victory” for cinema.
The 84-year-old filmmaker – who was a key figurehead in the New Hollywood filmmaking movement of the 1960s and 1970s – has lauded Greta Gerwig’s live-action ‘Barbie’ movie and Christopher Nolan’s biographical film about the physicist who was pivotal in developing the first atomic bomb for bringing people back to cinemas after a decline in bums on seats over the past few years.
During a Q+A with fans on his Instagram Story, Coppola was asked if he’d seen either movie, to which he replied: “I have yet to see them, but the fact that people are filling big theaters to see them and that they are neither sequels nor prequels, no number attached to them, meaning they are true one-offs, is a victory for cinema. (sic)”
The ‘Godfather’ helmer went as far as to call it “the verge of a golden age” in cinema.
In another post, he added: “My hunch is that we’re on the verge of a golden age. Wonderful and illuminating cinema seen in large theaters. (sic)”
The five-time Academy Award winner has previously explained why he’s not a fan of sequels and prequels, as well as superhero films.
He told GQ magazine last year: “There used to be studio films.
“Now there are Marvel pictures. And what is a Marvel picture? A Marvel picture is one prototype movie that is made over and over and over and over and over again to look different.”
He believes superhero movies “lack risk”.
Coppola previously claimed that Marvel movies are “despicable”, but later tried to clarify his original comments, admitting he simply doesn’t like “the idea of franchises”.
Asked to explain his feelings about superhero films, he told Deadline: “Personally I don’t like the idea of franchises, the notion that you can keep repeating what is essentially the same movie for financial gain – in other words, what is a formulaic approach.
“I feel that approach is taken to reduce the economic risk of movies, and I feel the ‘risk factor’ is an element that makes movies sometimes be great.
“Also, the formulaic film draws most available resources to them, leaving little for more daring productions, reducing diversity.”

Loose lips! Linda Robson worried she would get the sack from Loose Women after swearing on live TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Robson thought she would get the sack from ‘Loose Women’ after swearing live on air.
The 65-year-old star has been a regular panelist on the ITV1 lunchtime chat show for more than a decade but mistakenly thought a live broadcast of a competition segment in October 2022 was a rehearsal and after swearing out of confusion worried her time on the series would be up.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: “I’ve sworn a few times and thought I was going to lose my job. I once wheeled £1million in a shopping trolley with two security guards beside me. They told me it was a rehearsal.
“I said, Today is your last chance to win £1m in one go’ and then said, ‘I can’t f****** see it’ – meaning the autocue and we were live. They said as I didn’t swear aggressively – I didn’t say ‘f off’ to someone – I managed to keep my job.”
The former ‘Birds of a Feather’ actress will hit the road with her daytime co-hosts like ‘X Factor’ star Brenda Edwards, former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Denise Welsh and broadcast legend Janet Street-Porter as part of the ‘Loose Women Live’ tour when the show hits theatres across the UK in September and is “really looking forward” to it because she will not have to worry about her lanugage.
She added: “I’m really looking forward to ‘Loose Women’ Live’ I’ve got 11 out of 17 shows to do. There will be four ‘Loose Women’ on the stage and one guest every time. We’re all picking our own walk-on music and I’ll be allowed to swear!”

Loose Women editor Sally Shelford said: “We’re delighted the show is hitting the road for the first time with ‘Loose Women Live’!
“Having a live audience is such an important part of’ Loose Women’ and we can’t wait to be able to bring the show directly to our viewers in this way.”
Tickets for ‘Loose Women Live’ are on sale now.

Clive Myrie ‘gravitated’ towards George Alagiah in ‘overwhelmingly white’ BBC newsroom

OHMYGOSSIP — Clive Myrie connected with George Alagiah over race during their time at BBC News.
The 58-year-old journalist now fronts BBC shows like ‘Mastermind’ but recalled a time when he and late fellow newsreader George – who passed away last week at the age of 67 following a battle with cancer – felt “grateful” to be employed by the broadcaster and remembered how his tragic co-star fought for them to have equal pay.
Writing for HELLO Magazine, Clive said: “As people of colour in an overwhelmingly white newsroom we would gravitate towards each other. We’d share stories about our lives and work, and what it meant to both our families, who were immigrants to Britain long ago, that their sons worked for the mighty BBC. In 2017, when the pay figures of the Corporation’s highest stars were revealed, it was clear that neither George or myself, were anywhere near the top, despite all his success.0
“I remember speaking to him about the controversy at the time, and he said throughout his career, he’d never been aggressive in pursuing pay rises. I said I’d been exactly the same. It was because we both felt gratitude deep down, that the BBC was willing to employ people like us. We were lucky to have wonderful careers, no matter the pay. ”
Clive went on to reflect that the broadcaster “had a problem attracting and retaining ethnic minority staff” and acknowledged that numbers have “improved” but is still ongoing.
He added: “Nevertheless it was clear the BBC had a problem attracting and retaining ethnic minority staff, and in the years after the pay row, George, myself and fellow presenters Reeta Chakrabarti and Mishal Hussein, decided to join together to lobby the then Director General, Tony Hall, and his successor, Tim Davey, on how best to improve ethnic minority numbers in the newsroom. That work is ongoing, but George won’t be leading us. A kind and gentle light has been dimmed in our newsroom. Journalism has lost a giant.”
The ‘BBC News at Six’ host had been diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in 2014 and he underwent 17 rounds of chemotherapy to treat the disease. In October 2015 he announced that his treatment was over and returned to BBC One on November 10.
In 2017, the cancer returned and in 2020 the journalist revealed that it had spread to his lungs, liver and lymph nodes.
As his illness worsened, in October 2021, Alagiah made the decision to step down from his presenting duties.
His agent Mary Greenham confirmed his death in a statement, in which she sent her heartfelt condolences to his wife Frances Robathan and their two children, Adam and Matthew.
The statement read: “I am so terribly sorry to inform you that George Alagiah died peacefully today, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
“George fought until the bitter end but sadly that battle ended earlier today.
“George was deeply loved by everybody who knew him, whether it was a friend, a colleague or a member of the public. He simply was a wonderful human being.
“My thoughts are with Fran, the boys and his wider family.”

‘Absolutely terrifying!’ Vicky Pattison ‘nearly barbecued’ alive after her Uber exploded

OHMYGOSSIP — Vicky Pattison was “absolutely terrified” when her Uber exploded on the way to dinner.
The 35-year-old reality star was on the way to the exclusive Chigwell Turkish eatery Sheesh with her fiance Ercan Ramadan, 39, but was taken on a detour when the taxi that was taking them there began making “really horrible noises” on the road.
She wrote Instagram: “I actually don’t even know what to say about what’s just happened. It was absolutely terrifying.
“We were just driving along in this Uber, and Ercan saw that the engine management light was on, and then the car started making a really horrible noise on the A1.
“We pulled over, smoke out of the back of the car. The man was just like ‘stay in the car, it will be fine.’”
“It just burst into flames and you can see the whole car has exploded.
“Absolutely terrifying. The police come running over – ‘get back, get back’”.
The ‘Geordie Shore’ legend went on to reveal that the ride-share app even made her fork out “for the privilege” of almost being burnt alive in the incident.
Vicky said: “Thank you Uber charging me £50 for the privilege of nearly being BBQ’d – oh and literally being so unbothered when I repeatedly called in distress.”
Vicky – who since her time partying on the Newcastle-based reality show went on to win ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’, served as a panellist on ‘Loose Women’ and now fronts ‘The Secret To…’ podcast – admitted that “a good few” cocktails were needed to calm down but insisted that Uber apologised and refunded her.
She added: “It took a good few strawberry daiquiris to calm down, put it that way.
“For anyone invested in the story, Uber phoned me and assured me I’d be refunded and apologised for nearly turning me extra crispy and charging me for the privilege.”
The pair recently announced their engagement on social media.
Vicky wrote: “I choose you without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat… It’ll always be you.”

“I know that she needs and wants to make [her solo music] perfect. She wants it all to evolve at the right speed. It would be really selfish of me to say, Jade, let’s just get this out.”

Hollywood studios ‘already in stampede to make Barbie-style toy movies’

OHMYGOSSIP — Hollywood studios are reportedly already in the midst of a “stampede” to make ‘Barbie’-style toy movies.
New films based on the hit American Girl and miniature Polly Pocket dolls –both made by Barbie manufacturer Mattel – are said to have been given the green light.
The Mail on Sunday also reported ‘Emily in Paris’ actress Lily Collins, 34, is set to star in the first Polly Pocket movie.
It said the film is being written and directed by ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham, 37, and a source told the publication it will “be about a young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship”.
The plans come after ‘Barbie’ has taken nearly $545million and counting at the global box office.
A source said: “‘Barbie’ has set a fire under Hollywood. There is a stampede to cash in on other dolls.”
The insider added negotiations for the films are going on despite the actors’ and writers’ strike that has brought Hollywood to a standstill.
They said: “The deals are being done. As soon as the writers can write and the actors can act it will be full steam ahead. Mattel hopes to create a whole Mattel Universe, just like Marvel has.”
The Mail said Lena Dunham has already finished written the script for Polly Pocket, which will apparently eventually go into production once the
SAG-AFTRA union’s strike has been resolved.
Mattel is also said to be “desperate” for a sequel to ‘Barbie’, which starred Margot Robbie, 33, and Ryan Gosling, 42, as Barbie and Ken, but insiders say writer and director Greta Gerwig is not ready to commit to this.
A source said: “Greta can’t even start to think about a sequel after all the work and promotion she’s had to do for this first movie.
“Margot and Ryan are also on the fence. The first movie has been such a phenomenon that it’s going to be hard to top it.”

New ‘Paddington’ movie ‘shooting despite Hollywood strike’

OHMYGOSSIP — The new ‘Paddington’ movie is reportedly shooting despite the strike that has brought Hollywood to a standstill.
‘Paddington in Peru’ starring Ben Whishaw, 42, is said to be filming in the UK as part of a handful of productions which are going ahead amid the 171,500-strong actors’ and writers’ walk out.
The Independent reported: “The Paris and London-based Studiocanal, which produces ‘Paddington’, is not a member of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the body with which the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) union is in dispute.”
But it added a new Paddington cast member, Rachel Zegler, 22, left London after the strike was called and joined fellow actors on a New York SAG-AFTRA picket line, partly over fears AI will be used by studios instead of humans.
The UK industry is highly vulnerable to the strike since it has become the favoured location for streamers and Hollywood studios to locate high-end productions due to Britain’s flexible and skilled technical workforce.
But the SAG-AFTRA union is also giving “waivers” to allow some independent productions working outside of the AMPTP to continue.
An industry insider told The Independent: “It’s a confusing situation. People who support the strike are asking Equity if they should be working.
“Top-level actors can ride out the strike. But there are lots of skilled craftspeople on freelance contracts in the UK who have been sent home and don’t know when they can work again.”
British-based productions that have been halted amid the strike include Brad Pitt’s F1 untitled motor racing film for Apple+.
Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool 3’, ‘Wicked’ starring Ariana Grande and Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice 2’ are among the films due to be shooting in Britain which are also on pause.

Smack the Pony star Fiona Allen: I need my friends to be funny!

OHMYGOSSIP — Fiona Allen would “find it difficult” to be friends with someone who isn’t funny.
The 58-year-old comedienne – who is married to Michael Parkinson Jr and has Honey, Sofia and Felix with him – made her name starring in Channel 4 sitcom ‘Smack the Pony’ in the late 1990s alongside Sally Phillips but explained that she used to struggle with mothers at school who did not appreciate her sense of humour.
She told Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: ” I’d find it difficult. I used to get a thing with some of the school mums who had absolutely no sense of humour. A lot of them were into horses and one day, given that so many get shot during racing. I said, ‘Vet school must be really easy. Day one: this is a rocking horse. Day two: this is a real horse. The rest of the course must be gun etiquette.’ They didn’t think that was funny at all.”
Meanwhile, the former ‘EastEnders’ star went on to recall that she had “so much fun” during her time on ‘Smack the Pony’ and remembered a time when she had come up with the idea of incorporating a bull into the script and “fell in love” with the creature on set.
“We had so much fun. I came up with the idea of a bullfighter who fell in love with the bull. She couldn’t kill it and they ran away together to Wigan. The producers found a beautiful bull who’d won awards for his personality.
“I was terrified for an hour or two and then I just fell in love with him. I’d been holding his horn like we were holding hands for half an hour and the farmer came up and told me not to do that as they don’t like it. He could have told me earlier! And the bull nudged me (he wasn’t being awful but he was so massive and strong) and I thought my ribs were going to break. It was the best day of filming. The creativity on that show was fabulous. Sally (Phillips) and Doon (Mackichan) were just so funny, and when Simon Pegg was on I had to look at his forehead because he made me laugh too much.

I will see you there in a moment.” She goes down and waits for me. She understands. So some cats actually do understand.

Viola Davis quitting producing action thriller ‘G20’ in support of Hollywood strikes

OHMYGOSSIP — Viola Davis is stepping away from producing action thriller ‘G20’ in support of the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
The flick has received an interim agreement from the SAG-AFTRA union along with 100 other independent films, but the actress, 57, is not moving forward with filming.
In a move that is likely to set a precedent for A-listers supporting the actors’ and writers’ strike, she said in a statement: “I love this movie, but I do not feel that it would be appropriate for this production to move forward during the strike.
“I appreciate that the producers on the project agree with this decision. JuVee Productions and I stand in solidarity with actors, SAG/AFTRA and the WGA (Writers Guild of America West.)”
‘G20’ received a strike waiver despite the project’s affiliation with Amazon Prime Video, which is set to distribute the film.
The subject of interim waivers has been hotly contended since the SAG-AFTRA strike began two weeks ago as many see it as breaking the picket line.
Viola’s announcement comes two days after actor Sarah Silverman, 52,
slammed Hollywood stars for continuing to work on indie projects amid the strike – calling it an act of “scabbing.”
She said in a video posted to her Instagram: “We should see every movie star out there striking along because you have insurance because of your union. “You get residuals because of your union. All these things that you get because of your union, and you can’t stand with your union?
“So, I don’t know if I’m mad at these movie stars that are making these indie movies that are obviously going to go to streaming, or am I mad at SAG for making this interim deal for these indie movies?”
A raft of other indie films are still going ahead, with Apple TV+’s ‘Tehran’ and A24’s ‘Mother Mary’ and ‘I Dream of Unicorns’ are among the production that have received waivers from SAG-AFTRA to continue filming.
Actors such as Glenn Close, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Fanning and others are also still working under waivers.

Dame Judi Dench’s sight loss battle: ‘I can’t see on a film set anymore!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Judi Dench’s sight loss condition has grown so severe can no longer see on film sets.
The 88-year-old actress has previously opened up about having age-related macular degeneration, which causes a gradual loss of vision, and has now admitted it has deteriorated so much she can’t read scripts.
She told the Sunday Mirror’s Notebook magazine: “I can’t see on a film set any more. And I can’t see to read. But you just deal with it.
“It’s difficult if I have any length of a part. I haven’t yet found a way. Because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.”
Judi had previously revealed that she had to stop driving because of the condition but insists is not allowing her eyesight to hold her back.
