‘That video was not well-advised at all’: Nicola Thorp blasts Catherine Tyldesley’s response to cakegate

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Thorp has hit out at Catherine Tyldesley video response to cakegate.
Catherine, 39, has claimed she had “no idea” that party planners asked Three Little Birds bakery owner Rebecca Severs for a huge order for her 40th birthday party in Manchester in exchange for publicity with OK! Magazine.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday (02.08.23), she said: “Cakegate?! What? So, I had no idea those emails were being sent. I’m not working with the lovely OK! Magazine on anything that I am aware of. NVRLND are an amazing company, they’ve supplied with me performers in the past.
“They’re insane and they’ve been completely misrepresented in this matter. Utterly bizarre, I don’t really know what to say. I mean, I hope the cake lady got the exposure she was craving, whilst I’ve got journalists knocking on my front door whilst my kids are playing in the front room. Dead nice, that, babes, thanks for coming!”
However, Nicola, 34, – who along with Catherine has starred on ‘Coronation Street’ – insisted it was up to Catherine to make sure that everyone who worked for her was being paid.
Speaking on TalkTV, she said: “I feel sorry first and foremost for the cake woman. She’s brilliant.
“What she said is so clever. She was like, ‘I can’t pay my staff with heart emojis on Instagram’. She’s absolutely right. She runs a business.
“Why on earth should it be expected? Because this PR company are making money somehow. So they are getting money, they are just choosing not to pass it on to her.
“But it’s also not Cath’s fault, Catherine, because she wasn’t aware of it and I believe that because this is just the way these PR companies work.
“I agree, that video was not well-advised at all. She shouldn’t have been shooting down another woman. I believe strongly in this.
“What Cath went on to say in that video, was you know, ‘I use this company all the time and they have provided performers for me’ etc, etc.
“Well, it’s your duty as the person who is having the party done for you, to know that everybody who turns up is being paid.
“That’s a moral duty and also from a PR perspective, you would want to make sure that this kind of thing wasn’t happening.’
“I don’t mind it if you are approaching a big hotel chain and you’re saying, ‘Have you got a free night for my client?’, but it’s an individual’s business.”

‘There’s so many people who would love to see it come back’: Jennifer Ellison wants Brookside to return

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Ellison “couldn’t say no” to reprising her iconic role on ‘Brookside’ if the defunct soap ever returns.
The 40-year-old actress shot to fame playing Emily Shadwick in the Channel 4 show from 1998 to 2003 when she was just a teenager, but has also become known for several stage roles, including appearing as Roxie Hart in ‘Chicago’, and treading the boards in the UK tours of ‘Legally Blonde’ and ‘Calendar Girls’.
Despite being super proud of her stint on the Liverpool soap, Jennifer admits her three sons, Bobby, Harry and Charlie – whom she has with husband Robbie Tickle – don’t have a clue what it is.
Appearing on ‘Good Morning Britain’, she said: “‘Brookside’ was my soap. My mum and dad didn’t really watch soaps, but the Saturday Omnibus edition – I was all over that and so many people still are, aren’t they? And want it to come back!”
She continued: “Yeah, so many people. I get stopped in the street constantly and of all the things I’ve done, it’s ‘Brookside’ that people always talk about.”
She admitted: “My kids are like ‘What’s ‘Brookside’?’ and I’m like ‘It’s a Liverpool ‘Coronation Street’!'”
Jennifer added: “I think anyone who was involved in it … it holds such a special place in all our hearts, that I couldn’t say no. I’d feel like I was cheating all the people who’d given me the start in this industry.
“So yeah, I’d love to see it come back, it would be amazing. And there’s so many people who would love to see it come back.”
Meanwhile, another star of the show, Claire Sweeney, admitted last month that she thinks ‘Brookside’ should still be on air.
The 52-year-old actress landed the role of Lindsey Corkill in 1991, and she had no idea why the programme – which was noted for its hard-hitting depictions of rape, murder and was the first programme to show a lesbian kiss before the watershed – ended.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “I don’t think it should ever have been axed because it was so gritty. I don’t know what happened, it was a shame, such a shame. And ‘Hollyoaks’ kind of took over that place really and that went a lot more gritty. I don’t know if it would come back but there’s certainly an audience for it because when they showed the reruns on STV, it was the highest-rating shows.”

Gal Gadot to developer Wonder Woman 3 with DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran

OHMYGOSSIP — Gal Gadot is to develop ‘Wonder Woman 3’ with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Despite a report that suggested the third instalment in the series wasn’t moving forward, Gadot – who portrayed the titular superhero in the first two films (2017’s ‘Wonder Woman’ and 2020’s ‘Wonder Woman 1984’) – recently dropped a huge hint she might not be done playing the character.
She told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ at Netflix’s Tudum fan festival in June: “Things are being worked behind the scenes and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it.”
And now the 38-year-old star has practically confirmed the movie is going to happen.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, she said: “From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ together.”
In December, Gadot – who was thought to be in line for $20 million from the third film – admitted she was “so grateful” to have starred as such an “iconic character” in two movies.
She tweeted: “A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you (sic)”
Just days later, it was reported the third film in the franchise – which was to be directed by Patty Jenkins – was “considered dead in its current incarnation”, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
Gunn and Safran – who were appointed as co-chairmen and CEOs of DC Studios last year – and Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy were said to have told Jenkins the project didn’t fit in with the latest DC plans.
A week later, Jenkins insisted she did not “walk away” from the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise and told how she was “open to considering anything asked of me” in terms of making the third film.
In part of a statement released on her Twitter account, she wrote at the time: “When there started being backlash about WW3 not happening, the attractive clickbait false story that it was me that killed it or walked away started to spread.
“This is simply not true. I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now. (sic)”

‘What a bunch of insecure babies’: Marc Maron slams Barbie critics

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Maron says ‘Barbie’ is a “f****** masterpiece” and blasted its critics as “insecure babies”.
The ‘WTF with Marc Maron’ host was blown away by Greta Gerwig’s movie and hit back at those who slammed it for being “woke”.
He said on TikTok: “I saw Barbie and I thought it was a f****** masterpiece. And like, I don’t throw that word around lightly, but, Jesus Christ.
“It’s like it does a fairly amazing thing to create a sort of broad-based entertainment product that applies to the entire spectrum. I think primarily of women. And then just seep it in progressive politics and basic feminism in a way that’s funny, informative and well-executed in a context that is completely engaging is f****** monumental.
“It is intentionally, thoroughly explaining feminist ideas in a way that’s funny.”
Hitting out at the “insecure babies” who have slammed the movie, he said: “The comedy about men is inspired and the fact that certain men took offense to the point where they, you know, tried to build a grift around it in terms of their narrative as right-wing **** is so embarrassing for them.
“I mean, so embarrassing for them. Any dude that can’t take those hits in that movie, they’ve really got to look in their pants and decide what they’re made of. I mean, Jesus Christ, what a bunch of f****** insecure babies.”
Greta has previously responded to criticism of the movie, telling The New York Times: “My hope for the movie is that it’s an invitation for everybody to be part of the party and let go of the things that aren’t necessarily serving us as either women or men. I hope that in all of that passion, if they see it or engage with it, it can give them some of the relief that it gave other people.”

Christopher Nolan let ‘Oppenheimer’ actor improvise one of most sickening lines in film

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Nolan let James Remar improvise one of the most shocking lines in ‘Oppenheimer’.
The moment comes in a scene where Cillian Murphy’s J Robert Oppenheimer meets with the US Secretary of War Henry Stimson and other government officials about where to drop the atomic bombs in Japan.
Stimson – played by James, 69 – tells the group to avoid using Oppenheimer’s atomic bomb to strike Kyoto as that’s where he and his wife honeymooned.
Christopher, 53, told the New York Times: “There’s a moment where James Remar… he kept talking to me about how he learned that Stimson and his wife had honeymooned in Kyoto.
“That was one of the reasons that Stimson took Kyoto off the list to be bombed. “I had him crossing the city off the list because of its cultural significance, but I’m like, ‘Just add that.’
“It’s a fantastically exciting moment where no one in the room knows how to react.”
Revealing how each character in the film did a he amount of research besides reading the Oppenheimer biography ‘American Prometheus’, Christopher added: “Each actor was coming to the table with research about what their real-life counterpart had been.
“They had tons of homework to do. They had a great resource with ‘American Prometheus’.
“They then did their own research and what it meant for me, which isn’t something I’d ever really been able to do in the past.
“So, for example, with the scene in the section classroom with all the scientists, we would be able to improvise the discussion.
“The script is there, but they could come into it with passion and knowledge based on all of their own learning.”
“Oppenheimer” has become a box office powerhouse for Universal Pictures since its 21 July release date, crossing the $180 million mark at the domestic box office in less than two weeks.
It has also soared past $412 million worldwide, with critics saying the numbers are “staggering” for a three-hour, R-rated biographical drama.

Charlie Kaufman receiving honorary Heart of Sarajevo award at Sarajevo Film Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Kaufman is receiving the honorary Heart of Sarajevo award at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
The ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless’ mind screenwriter, 64, is getting the gong in recognition of his contribution to the art of filmmaking at the 29th annual event, which will run from 11 to 18 August.
It will also hold an open-air screening of 2002’s ‘Adaptation’, also written by Kaufman and directed by his long-time collaborator Spike Jonze, 53.
Jovan Marjanović, the festival’s director, said: “We are thrilled that, after 15 years, we are welcoming back to the (festival) one of the most significant, world-renowned screenwriters and directors, and honour him for his work and dedication to the art of filmmaking.
“Charlie Kaufman is an extraordinary filmmaker whose films, though filled with biting humour, compel us to contemplate existential depths of the human experience.”
Charlie was previously a guest of the festival in 2008 when he presented his directorial debut ‘Synecdoche, New York’ about a tortured theatre director played by the late Phillip Seymour-Hoffman having an existential crisis.
Charlie’s writing career kicked off in the early 1990s on the cult sitcom ‘Get a Life’, and he spent most of the decade writing for TV before moving into movies.
His screenplay for 1999’s ‘Being John Malkovich’ – about the actor John Malcovich discovering a portal into his mind – earned him nominations for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award.
He also wrote the screenplays for ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’, based on Chuck Barris’ autobiography, about the TV executive who claimed he lived a secret life as a US government assassin.
His meta comedy ‘Adaptation’ starring Meryl Streep, Nicolas Cage and Chris Cooper, was about Charlie’s struggles to stay original in his work and also earned him an Academy Award nod – with his ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ screenplay finally winning him the Oscar for best original screenplay.
In 2009, Kaufman won an Independent Spirit Award for directing ‘Synecdoche, New York’ and his animation ‘Anomalisa’ about a despairing motivational speaker was nominated at the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes and the Annie Awards.
His most recent feature was 2020’s surrealist thriller ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’ about a couple in the throes of a break-up, which he wrote and directed. The same year Charlie published his first novel, ‘Antkind’.

‘I’d be the campmate from hell’ The Chase star Mark Labbett would get ‘hangry’ on I’m A Celeb

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Labbett would get “hangry” if he went on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’
The 57-year-old star – who is best known as a quizzer nicknamed The Beast on ITV’s teatime hit ‘The Chase’ – explained that if he were to take part in the jungle-based reality survival show, he would end up cooking one of his fellow campmates out of desperation if he got too hungry.
He told The Daily Star newspaper: “I might be the campmate from hell. I get hangry, which is being angry because I’m hungry. And that is not good. I am a man who likes his food. I make no bones about it… my father was a butcher, so I know basic butchery. If somebody crosses me and it affects the food, I will have them up on a spit and roast them within five minutes.”
Mark – whose fellow quizzer Anne Hegerty reached seventh place on the show in 2018 – has in recent years switched to a healthier diet and lost 10 stone but joked that producers wanting to hire him for a spot on the show, should be mindful that he is a “psychopath” before giving him a chance.
He said: “If my attitude isn’t going to work, they shouldn’t hire me. I don’t want them getting me on the show then afterwards saying, ‘We didn’t realise you were such a psychopath!”
Mark is currently dating TV presenter Hayley Palmer and she recently revealed that he would like a shot at competing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and promised to even help him with his footwork if bosses of the BBC gave him a chance.
Hayley told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “He really wants to do ‘Strictly’ and I used to be a dancer as well, so I’d be able to help him!”

The 43-year-old comedienne was given a slot on the ITV lunchtime panel show in early 2020 and now feels so grateful to have the likes of Ruth Langsford, Janet Street-Porter, Katie Piper, and Frankie Bridge around her and is excited to be going on tour with her co-stars as well as hitting the road with her own show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, she said: “‘Loose Women’ is a ball, I love all of them. The beauty about ‘Loose Women’ is that I’ve got like 20 women to my hand that I could get advice, whether it’s from a health stance, parenting, financial, I’m so blessed with having these talented women on me. We’re now taking it on tour. I’ve got my ‘One Like Judi Love’ tour but then we’re doing ‘Loose Women Live’ in September. It’s gonna be a ball. Let’s call it ‘Loose Loose!’ It’s where we really get to connect, with all these women – and men!”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant worked in social care before carving out her career in standup comedy and joined ‘Loose Women’ after producers spotted a viral video of her on Instagram complaining about a roundabout and recalled believing she could succeed in entertainment after making patients laugh.
She said: “As much as I see that video now, it takes me back, but it brings me so much joy because [producers] Sally and Tom saw it and thought ‘You connect with other people!’
“I trained as a social worker and there was a time when I was doing some training in a mental health rehabilitation home, people with really serious psychosis.
“We were laughing and I was making jokes, we were all laughing, I remember standing there watching everyone laugh and just taking it in. It makes me emotional, one gentleman turned to me and said ‘Thank you, I forgot about my psychosis’.
“And that was one of the things that pushed me to just try. I’ve been through adversities in life and one of the things that got through it was laughing. It’s about taking those chances. If I never said to myself, ‘Okay, I don’t think this is the place that I’m supposed to be’, then I wouldn’t be here.”

Rob Rinder ‘truly moved’ by latest TV job

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Rinder was “truly moved” by his latest TV job.
The 45-year-old TV star has joined chef Monica Galetti as the new co-host of the BBC travel series ‘Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby’ in place of Giles Coren and was “truly moved” after seeing how communities in locations such as Morocco and Sri Lanka work together to provide an “amazing service” for tourists.
He said: “The sunrises and sunsets in every single place [were a highlight]. I met a person in every single hotel who gets you to think about the world in a new way and what more is there. I particularly loved Sri Lanka. I’ve been to some of these countries before but this time I have the gift of seeing communities who have been working alongside each other to help have a conversation about what their country and community can be, all around amazing service. I was truly moved.
“What surprised me is how talented, dedicated and invested the owners, employees and everyone we spoke to were. It was not just a hotel, but a community. Such as an Atoll that was destroyed by an El Nino, or speaking to a Berber community in part of the Atlas mountains who, before the hotel opened, were on the edge of economic catastrophe. Now, it’s an epicentre of community. What surprised me is how these hotels can forge part of a community and alter how not just a community runs, but who a person is.”
The former ‘Judge Rinder’ star was then asked about the “worst place” he had ever stayed in and revealed that whilst travelling as a student, he once found accommodation ina hotel that was once used as a prison.
He said: “Mostly when I was travelling as a student. I once stayed in a hotel which had previously been a prison and they hadn’t changed the décor during that time!”
‘Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby’ airs on Sundays at 8pm on BBC Two and is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Diane Kruger to receive Golden Eye Award at Zurich Film Festival: ‘I’m honoured and proud!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Kruger is set to receive the Golden Eye Award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival.
Famed for working with directors including Quentin Tarantino, Wolfgang Peterson and Robert Zemeckis, the 47-year-old is renowned as one of Hollywood’s finest character actresses and is probably best known for her roles as Helen of Sparta in 2004’s ‘Troy’, Bridget von Hammersmark in Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and Anna in 2009’s ‘Mr. Nobody’.
She said: “Thank you Zurich Film Festival for this wonderful recognition. I’m honoured and proud to be part of the impressive list of past honourees.
“I look forward to return to Zurich and celebrate with all of you in October!”
Diane will receive the Golden Eye Award on 2 October, with the Zurich Film Festival taking place from 28 September to 8 October.
Christian Jungen, Zurich Film Festival’s artistic director, said in a statement: “Diane Kruger is one of cinema’s most versatile character actresses. She not only becomes wholly absorbed in each and every role she takes on, but also imparts her characters with great depth.
“In addition to her powerful charisma, she possesses the rare ability to captivate audiences with her irresistible, somewhat enigmatic aura. Just like her idol Romy Schneider, Kruger also established herself in France, the motherland of auteur cinema, where she now enjoys considerable renown and widespread admiration as a star in her own right.
“And she is thrilling and thriving just as much in Hollywood, where she has wowed in blockbusters like ‘Troy’ and ‘Inglourious Basterds’.
“For these reasons, we are truly delighted to be welcoming Diane Kruger back to Zurich and presenting her with the Golden Eye for her services to cinema.”
Diane’s latest film ‘Visions’ is set to have its international premiere in Zurich.
Directed by Yann Gozlan, the psychological thriller stars the actress as a married airline captain whose life spins out of control when she encounters an old flame.

Adam Brody: ‘Method acting sounds f****** boring!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Brody has blasted method acting as “f****** boring”.
The 43-year-old ‘O.C.’ actor’s latest project was starring in Netflix’s remake of 1994 thriller ‘River Wild’ – that saw Meryl Streep’s rafting holiday take a deadly turn – but he said he didn’t use so-called immersive acting techniques in the movie reboot, like Jeremy Strong in ‘Succession’.
Adam – who plays a heavily-tattooed ex-convict who will stop at nothing to make sure he never returns to prison and who terrorises a character played by his real-life wife Leighton Meester, 37 – told the Variety podcast about the prospect of going method: “It sounds f****** boring more than anything to me It sounds ungodly boring, but hats off to them.
“Hats off to people that don’t watch their stuff, are Method… I don’t know, is it lacking that I can turn it off so quickly?
“I don’t know. I’m more comfortable this way. And it just seems so profoundly uncomfortable and also boring.”
Critics say Adam’s turn in the ‘River Wild’ remake is “terrifying” and he admitted about his scenes opposite his wife: “I tried to kill her for a fair amount of the movie. I wouldn’t have picked this for us.
“It came to me… fully formed from a friend to both of us, but this isn’t something I was looking to do together.”
When filming wrapped, Adam had to have surgery after an old shoulder injury flared during shooting.
He added: “I had an old injury from when I was 19. I had a torn labrum. My left shoulder would come out of socket a couple of times a year, but briefly.
“And I don’t have to put it back in. It just goes back in, and it hurts.
“I landed on the floor (while choregraphing a fight scene) and it came out really bad.
“It came out really bad, and each time it gets looser. I had surgery in November on it.”
