Timothy Olyphant lost Star Trek role to younger rival Chris Pine

OHMYGOSSIP — Timothy Olyphant lost out on a role in the 2009 ‘Star Trek’ reboot to younger rival Chris Pine.
The 55-year-old actor has revealed he initially auditioned for the role of ship medic Dr. Leonard McCoy in J.J. Abrams’ movie but the director suggested he tried out for Captain Kirk instead – but he was eventually passed over in favour of Pine who is 13 years his junior.
Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused podcast prior to the Hollywood actors strike, Olyphant explained: “Here’s what I can tell you about ‘Star Trek’: I went in and auditioned not for Captain Kirk, but I remember reading with J.J. Abrams and he’s just a lovely, lovely guy. And just a lovely, lovely audition process. Somewhere in there, I was auditioning for Doc, he’s like, ‘I already got a guy for Doc, so I don’t need you for that, but I don’t have a Kirk’.”
Olyphant went on to admit his age may have played a part in the casting decision, adding: “I believe it was one of those things where it’s like they might have been prepared to hire me, but they wanted somebody younger, and [Abrams] was having a hard time finding somebody younger. And somewhere along the line, J.J. called and said, ‘I found a guy, younger, who’s really good’.”
However, there’s no bad blood between him and Pine. Olyphant said of the actor: “I have since then met Chris Pine and I am a huge fan of him both on and off screen. I love that guy. He’s a good dude. This sounds very show business-y, but I had the honour, we’re going to say honour, to go to the Golden Globes one year … and I spent most of the evening at the bar with Chris Pine. Just really adored him. What a good guy. I really like his work. He’s one of those guys who makes it look simple and easy.”

Danny Dyer taking inspiration from his ‘very messy’ stag do for latest TV role

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer’s used his stag do as inspiration for his latest role.
The 46-year-old tied the knot with Joanne Mas in 2016 and now that he is set to star as an exaggerated version of himself in new BBC Two comedy ‘Henpocalypse!’ – which follows a hen party night out as a male-killing disease breaks out – admitted that his own pre-wedding celebrations got “very messy.”
He told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “My stag weekend was meant to be sophisticated. We went to Port Lympne Safari Park and stayed in a treehouse, which was an animal kingdom and we were going to go on a safari. I didn’t see many animals, in fact, it got very messy. I did see some monkeys, though.
“It’s a nutty idea, basically a group of women go on a hen do and while they’re on their hen do in Wales, a disease breaks out that kills all men. ”
The former ‘EastEbders’ star – who quit his role as Mick Carter in 2022 after almost a decade on the BBC soap opera – went on to explain that in the comedy, the character of Jen (Kate O’Flynn) is left hallucinating about him and revealed that the part came about because the writer is a big fan of his.
He said: Jen is stuck lying in bed as she has got gangrene on her leg and that’s why all her friends leave her. She keeps talking about Danny Dyer and dreaming about Danny Dyer and so that’s when I make an appearance. I got an email from writer Caroline Moran asking me if I wanted to be in the series, she basically wrote this part because she loves me as an actor.
“She felt that I was sort of one of the character’s fantasies, so I play myself in a dream sequence I love the version of me that she’s got in her head because I’m very articulate and quite whimsical. I’m basically there to make Kate O’Flynn’s character masculine.”
‘Henpocalypse!’ will air on BBC Two on 15 August.

Jeff Brazier reacts to son Bobby’s Strictly Come Dancing signing

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Brazier is “really proud” of his son Bobby amid his budding TV career.
The 44-year-old presenter has 20-year-old Bobby with former partner Jade Goody – who died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 27 – and just months after the young lad made his debut on BBC soap opera ‘EastEnders’ as Freddie Slater, explained that he can see how much his son is improving with every episode.
He told The Mirror: “I’m really proud of Bobby and the attitude he has had since he’s been on ‘EastEnders’. He’s wanted to absorb as much from all the incredibly experienced actors around him. He’s made a really good start to his career, and I can see he’s proud of himself, too.
“I can see every time I switch it on that he’s got better. Every time I watch it I can see he’s better in the terms of the layers. I’m no acting expert, I can’t say how good he is, but I’m really proud of my son. He’s had an opportunity and he’s taken it.”
Meanwhile, Bobby has recently been announced as one of the celebrities taking part in the upcoming series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ alongside the likes of actor Nigel Harman and tennis star Annabel Croft.
But Jeff – who competed on ITV’s ‘Dancing on Ice’ in 2011 – warned that the Latin and ballroom competition would be “really difficult” for his son because there is so much to learn.
He added: “He’s going to get to learn a lot about himself. It’s going to be really difficult, he’s going to have to really dig in. There’s a lot to learn, then you forget it all and there’s another routine!”

Gemma Atkinson hits back at mum-shaming trolls

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson has taken to social media to hit back at mum-shaming trolls.
The 38-year-old actress – who gave birth to her son Thiago last month – has turned to Instagram to reveal the vile messages that she’s received from some social media users in recent weeks.
After visiting her doctor to collect a cream, Gemma said on the photo-sharing platform: “I had an appointment to pick that up and I’m still in these [maternity] dresses because the scars [from childbirth] rub, so I looked like a bag of rags.
“My mum was pushing the pram because it’s quite hilly where I live, I didn’t want to overdo it up-hill.
“When I came out the doctors I was looking at the medication ingredients list on my phone to see if it would affect my breastfeeding and get in my bloodstream – you know what I’m like.
“Anyway, I get a lot of DMs, some are lovely, some of them aren’t. I’ve already had one today saying Thiago shouldn’t be in the sun.
“I’ve had another saying how lazy I was letting my mum push the pram. I got another saying ‘you used to be fit and you’re still fat.'”
Gemma previously revealed that her body has become “different” since became a mum.
The actress – who also has Mia, four, with Gorka Marquez – told Women’s Health magazine: “My body doesn’t look like it did before. It’s changed after having a baby, but that made me more determined to do [the shoot] – my body is not better or worse, just different.
“Maybe it’s important to show that to other women? … I was always straight up and down, like a surfboard, but now I’ve got a bit of a waist. When I put on high-waisted jeans, you can see I’ve got hips. I reckon I’m about three percent J-Lo now, so I’m happy with that.”

Domhnall Gleeson set to star in Alice and Jack

OHMYGOSSIP — Domhnall Gleeson is set to star alongside Andrea Riseborough in ‘Alice and Jack’.
The 40-year-old actor and Andrea, 41, will both appear in the upcoming Channel 4 drama series from Victor Levin, the award-winning writer and film director.
Speaking prior to the ongoing writers’ strike, Domhnall said: “The only work I’ve wanted to watch and do since the pandemic is work about connection and love, and work with a sense of humour.
“‘Alice and Jack’ keep coming back to each other because they can’t help themselves – they find in each other something that they don’t have on their own. I think they’re soulmates, I think it’s bigger than just the two of them.
“Their story centres on connection and love in the most beautiful way and reminds us that we are always allowed to smile – even if it’s through the tears.”
The love story was filmed in various locations – including London and Gran Canaria in Spain – during the summer of 2022.
Andrea believes the story is “for anyone who could or couldn’t make the sacrifice that love demanded”.
The actress – who also serves as an executive producer on the project – explained: “We unite in yearning to see evidence of real love, and, too, are soothed to share with one another the ache of its inevitable imperfection.
“This story is for anyone who could or couldn’t make the sacrifice that love demanded, for anyone who battles and accepts the one who makes their soul soar, for anyone who longs to feel, who has felt, and who feels the tingling anticipation of love’s joy.”

Hot Wheels movie races ahead

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Hot Wheels’ movie is racing ahead with studio bosses reportedly launching a search for the right director.
The film – based on Mattel’s popular car toys – is being produced by ‘Star Trek’ moviemaker J.J. Abrams and the project is said to be moving forward quickly following the success of Mattel’s ‘Barbie’ movie which recently broke the billion dollar benchmark at the global box office amid reports the hunt is on for a director to take charge.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter “the studio is out to directors” despite the film not having a script in place yet.
Abrams previously opened up about the concept for the film, insisting it’s not going to be a shallow action movie based around car chases. He told the New Yorker: “For a long time, we were talking to Mattel about Hot Wheels, and we couldn’t quite find the thing that clicked, that made it worthy of what Hot Wheels – that title – deserved … Then we came up with something emotional and grounded and gritty.”
‘Hot Wheels’ is among a number of other Mattel projects in the works which includes a Polly Pocket movie which is being written and directed by Lena Dunham and a big screen outing for Barney the Dinosaur starring Daniel Kaluuya.
Mattel Films executive Kevin McKeon previously insisted the Barney movie won’t be what many are expecting, telling the New Yorker: “We’re leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids. It’s really a play for adults. Not that it’s R-rated, but it’ll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being thirty-something, growing up with Barney – just the level of disenchantment within the generation.”

Rebel Wilson hit in the face with a gun on movie set

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebel Wilson was hit in the face with a gun on the set of her new movie.
The actress recently revealed she needed stitches after suffering facial injuries during filming of ‘Bride Hard’ – which has been granted permission to continue during Hollywood’s SAG-AFTRA strike because it is an independent production – and now she’s opened up about the stunt which went wrong explaining she was accidentally smacked in the face with a prop weapon.
In a post on Instagram, she revealed: “I was shooting an independent movie in Savannah, Georgia. In the middle of a night shoot, my last scene of the movie, so I’d done all these kick-ass fight sequences and then just, in the last one, I got hit in the face with the butt of a gun.”
Rebel went on to say it was “such a shock” but insisted it was a “complete accident”. However, she’s pleased to report her stitches have now dissolved and her injuries are healing well.
She said: “I just wanted to say thank you for all your well-wishes. I’ve actually been healing quite amazing. The stitches have dissolved out … I hopefully will be totally, totally fine. It was really fun doing an action movie, but it can be dangerous at times. But I’m all good, so thanks, everybody.”
In the `action comedy, Rebel plays “badass secret agent” Sam who is tasked with “one of her hardest missions yet” – being Maid of Honour at her childhood best friend’s wedding.
Last week, the actress shared a photo of her battered and bruise face on her Instagram Story and wrote: “NOT the way I wanted to end this movie!. 3 stitches and in hospital last night after a stunt accident at 4am.(sic)”
‘Bride Hard’ has been granted an Interim Agreement to continue filming during the SAG-AFTRA strike because it is an independent production. The actors’ organisation – which is striking due to issues including the rise of AI and streaming revenue – explained in a message to members last month: “The Interim Agreement gives many of our journeyman performers and crews the opportunity to pay their rent and feed their families. This approach maintains our strength, solidarity and upper hand with the AMPTP until they yield to the deal we deserve. “The Interim Agreement is not a waiver. To be clear, it is a contract that includes all terms and conditions for producers looking to employ our members on their specific independent productions. “This Interim Agreement was created for several reasons, all of which are aimed at protecting the interests of our members, helping them successfully navigate the strike and demonstrating to the AMPTP that other producers are eager to work with our members under these terms.”

Dan Trachtenberg hints at Prey sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Prey’ director Dan Trachtenberg has hinted a sequel may be on the horizon.
The ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ moviemaker stepped behind the camera to take charge of the latest film in the ‘Predator’ franchise – which was a prequel to the four previous movies – and he’s now suggested ‘Prey 2’ could be a possibility because there have been some excellent ideas being thrown around about where to take the story next.
Speaking to ‘The Playlist’, he explained: “I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations. The studio, myself, the writer, and the producers about what crazy things could we do next. And I’ve never stopped, no one stopped thinking about how cool things could be going forward.”
‘Prey’ featured Amber Midhunter as a young Comanche warrior doing battling with the trigger-happy alien which made its debut opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 original ‘Predator’.
There were five ‘Predator’ films including ‘Prey’ as well as two ‘Alien vs. Predator’ spin-offs.
Dan previously admitted he wanted to make ‘Prey’ in the same vein as the great sci-fi movies of the past, telling SFX magazine: “I always think the ‘Predator’, ‘Alien’ and ‘Terminator’ movies, despite having different directors, all feel like they’re of their own little genre. “I think it’s in large part, mainly thinking of ‘Aliens’ over ‘Alien’, the action-horror mash-up, but with a real hankering for the military aspects feeling more authentic than not. “There’s always this authentic blend of where you’re rooted in the real world, then the introduction of the sci-fi element, that (John) McTiernan and (James) Cameron were so deft at.” The filmmaker continued: “I sort of wanted to take the same approach and be as authentic as we possibly could in a totally different way, in a more Terrence Malick way.”

Gal Gadot leaves her stunts to the experts

OHMYGOSSIP — Gal Gadot insists the only actor to do all their own stunts is Tom Cruise.
The ‘Wonder Woman’ star has admitted she doesn’t take part in every action sequence and insists it’s important to recognise the hard work and dedication of the experts who step in for actors on film sets – hailing their “dedication” to their craft.
In an interview with Flaunt given before the Hollywood actors strike, she explained: “When people say: ‘I do all of my stunts by myself: ‘I’m like, ‘Really?’ … [The only exception] is Tom Cruise, who really, really does them.”
She added: “I always try to celebrate my stunt women and men. The amount of work and the risk they take, the dedication – everything they give is just incredible. They’ve become like a second family to me. They should be celebrated because they really make us look like the best version of ourselves.”
Later in the interview, Gal addressed her surprise return to the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise in ‘Fast X’ despite her character seemingly being killed off in a previous instalment.
She explained: “I mean they [the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise] were the first to give me an opportunity in Hollywood. I still get emotional with the love from the fans.
“For years, I’ve been asked by so many different fans to ‘Come back, come back!’ And they even did a campaign for me to return. It was mind-blowing to me, and these are things I don’t take lightly. So, I was like, ‘Okay, maybe now it’s time, maybe now is the right time to return.’ It’s really exciting, and it feels right.”

‘I was devastated!’ Melvin Odoom on being axed from Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Melvin Odoom felt like he had “let people down” when he was eliminated first from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 43-year-old presenter didn’t have the chance to fight for his place in the 2016 series of the BBC Latin and Ballroom competition because pop singer Anastacia could not take part in the dance-off due to injury and was “devastated” to go out first because his mum is a huge fan of the show and his professional partner Janette Manrara had worked “so hard” with him.
Speaking on the ‘White Wine Question Time’ podcast, he told former ‘Loose Women’ anchor Kate Thornton: “When I got kicked off ‘Strictly’, I was devastated. I thought I’d let down so many people. My mum is a big fan of the show, Janette Manrara, my dance partner, was incredible. You know how hard they work and she put so much effort into me for those first few weeks on the main show so when I got kicked off, I felt like I had let them down. And obviously, for me, it was a weird situation because I was up against Anastasia, she didn’t want to do her dance-off so I never got the chance to really fight for my place. I think I’m alright, in the club. I’m okay! I wasn’t embarrassed but I felt like I let everyone down. Dancing in a club and dancing doing the Tango is two different things. It’s like a minefield.”
However, the former CBBC star was then asked to take part in the festive special of the show that same year and whilst he initially declined the offer, he explained that it was his sister Yonah who urged him to do it and helped him on his way to lifting the Glitterball Trophy.
He added: “I remember coming home and the BBC called me asking me to do the Christmas special. I said no. I called my sister and she said ‘You have to do it, you’ll smash it’ and I was like ‘Yeah but I was kicked off the main show’ and she said ‘You’re my brother, I know you’re going to do well.
“They didn’t get a chance to get to meet the real you’. She said to just go and do it. So I did. My sister would sit and watch all the videos with me. She learned Janette’s moves, not as well as Janette did, but she would practice with me every night after I’d practiced in the day, and that’s how I learned the routine. She just believed in me and I think because she believed in me so much I got the confidence back, and that’s how I ended up winning.”

Grant Coulson hopes to ‘inspire’ other men after coming out

OHMYGOSSIP — Grant Coulson’s friends have been “reaching out for advice” after he went public with his boyfriend Scott.
The ‘Geordie Shore’ star has received a “very positive” reaction to his romance, and he thinks it’s actually been “inspiring” for some of his male friends.
Grant, 31 – who previously had a fling with Chloe Ferry – told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “A lot of lads in the same position have been reaching out for advice, they’ve said it’s inspiring. The general reaction has been very positive.”
The TV star insists he hasn’t changed in order to fit a “label”.
He explained: “I’m just me – I don’t have to act or behave a certain way to fit a certain label.”
Grant also hopes that his experience will “inspire” other gay men.
He shared: “A lot of lads find it hard due to the stigma but I hope my story has helped inspire others who are feeling the same way.”
Earlier this month, Grant admitted that he’s been “hiding his real self” for years.
The TV star insisted that people are more open-minded than ever and that “no one’s really bothered” about his sexuality.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I think now I just feel more comfortable with who I am.
“For years I hid the real me and now I am finally happy, I feel like everyone needs to know the real me. I feel like I have been hiding myself for such a long period of time, it’s just a bit of a weight lifted off my shoulders.
“I think I have known for years but more people are more open to it now. It’s not the 1800s, no one’s really bothered anymore.”

‘We all make mistakes!’ Love Island winners Sammy Root and Jess Harding on ‘strong’ relationship

OHMYGOSSIP — Sammy Root always knew Jess Harding was the one on ‘Love Island’.
The 22-year-old project manager won the latest series of the ITV2 reality dating show with now-girlfriend Jess Harding, 22, towards the end of last month and explained that had they not endured some rocky patches on the show – during which they both “explored” with other contestants – they would not be as “strong” as they are now as a couple.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he told stand-in host Christine Lampard: “Everyone makes mistakes, I made mistakes, Jess did, everyone did in there but at the same time, I wouldn’t change a thing. At the end of the day, I was on ‘Love Island’, and me and Jess have known each other for a matter of weeks, which people forget. I explored. I was true to myself and explored everything possible. And after and during, it was still Jess the whole time.
“If it was smooth sailing, we probably wouldn’t be so strong. We both tried other things and it made us realise we wanted each other. It’s never smooth sailing for relationships on the outside.”
During the Casa Amor stage of the series, Sammy had decided to couple up with Amber Wise and Jess explained that she had to put on a “brave face” to get through it.
In the joint interview, she said: “Do you know what? Like, I think the excitement of Casa Amor, it was exciting. But knowing that he was single and knowing full well that he was going to couple up with someone else, it was a bit disheartening but I tried and I knew what I wanted so that’s why I came back on my own. I was true to myself and I can accept rejection, I prepared myself for the worst and put on a brave front.”

Lottie Lion slams airline for allowing kids to fly business class

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Apprentice’ star Lottie Lion has slammed an airline for allowing children to fly business class.
The 23-year-old star – who appeared on the BBC show back in 2019 – has taken to Instagram to blast the airline for allowing kids to travel in business class on her flight to Paris.
Alongside a photo of herself with her head in her hands, Lottie wrote online: “Not to sound pretentious or anything (but we all know I am) why the f*** are children allowed in business class?
“There’s a bratty 6 year old sat NEXT TO ME with the parents in the row in front. (sic)”
One of Lottie’s followers subsequently asked: “What are parents flying business class supposed to do with their kids?”
And the TV star replied: “I don’t know, put them in the luggage hold or something I guess.”
Meanwhile, Lottie previously took to social media to reveal that she rejected the advances of ‘Love Island’ star Hugo Hammond.
The businesswoman – who was invited by Hugo to join him for a night out in Bristol – shared: “We were buying quite a few drinks, having a bit of a dance, having a bit of a laugh. I think on the TV show I was on I was the black sheep, and so was he, so we had a bit of bonding over that.
“So then I went to sit down – we’d been together about three or four hours. As I sat down we’re having a bit more of a laugh and he went to kiss me. Now, despite the fact that we’re getting along quite well I said, ‘No, sorry I’m just not feeling that.'”

Adam Devine insists Marvel has ‘ruined’ comedy

OHMYGOSSIP — Adam Devine has claimed Marvel movies have “ruined” comedy.
The ‘Pitch Perfect’ star has blasted the impact humour in Marvel blockbusters such as ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ have had on the more traditional artform of comedy movies in Hollywood.
Appearing on the ‘This Past Weekend’ podcast, he said: “You watch comedies nowadays and you’re like, this is not a f****** comedy Where are the jokes? Where are the bits?
“There’s still good [comedy] shows, but movie comedy… it’s hard. My theory: I think Marvel ruined it.
“I feel like superhero movies ruined comedies because you go to the theater and you expect to watch something that cost $200 million to make, and comedy movies aren’t that.”
Devine insisted the issue is both artistic and financial, audiences drawn towards bigger blockbusters.
He added: “So you’re like, ‘Why would I spend the same amount of money to go watch a little comedy in the theater if I can spend that and watch something that is worth $200 million?’
“And they still make those movies kind of funny, like, ‘Oh my god, is that raccoon talking? This is hilarious!’ Which it is, but it’s not a real comedy.”
The 39-year-old actor – who is starring in new Netflix comedy ‘The Out-Laws’, from Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company – is saddened by the lack of genuinely funny movies being made each year.
He said: “Every studio used to put out several comedies a year. And there were like 45 comedies in the theater per year.
“So every week or so, there’s a new comedy in the theaters. Now, last year, there was like six or seven. It’s crazy.”

Major Coronation Street character to launch OnlyFans

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ character Ryan Connor is to launch an OnlyFans-style career.
The bistro waiter is played by Ryan Prescott, 34, on the ITV1 soap opera, and after becoming the victim of an acid attack earlier this year, the character will now reportedly turn to sex work as he starts up a profile on a website based on OnlyFans.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Ryan has had a tough year and he is soon going to be tempted into taking the easy money that comes with things like OnlyFans.
“But he will soon discover that not everything is as easy as it first appears. It’s a major storyline for Ryan and one that bosses know he is going to smash.”
However, Ryan – who is the son of former regular Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) – will turn to steroids in an effort to improve his social media presence, as the programme makes the effort to highlight the “real dangers” that come with using black market drugs.
The source added: “Ryan has been through a horrible time and his struggles aren’t going away. He’s always relied on his good looks to get him through life and now he’s struggling to come to terms with not having them anymore. He can’t do anything about his scarring but he can turn his body into a ripped gym-honed version of itself.
“However with everything that’s gone on, he’s going to try to take a short cut and use black market steroids to kickstart his body transformation.
“They come with huge downsides and Ryan’s going to be risking a lot just to make himself look better on social media.
“There a real dangers with using these black market drugs and Ryan will plunge deeper and deeper just for some online clout from his headless torso selfies.”
