Doctors axed by BBC after 23 years

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctors’ has been axed by the BBC after 23 years.
The broadcaster says that the daytime soap had been affected by “super inflation in drama production” which means the show has become too expensive to make.
The final episode will air in December 2024 and the BBC said it will be working to give the show “the finale it deserves”.
‘Doctors’ follows the lives of staff and patients at a Midlands GP practice in the fictional town of Letherbridge and first aired back in 2000.
A number of A-list actors have featured in the programme early on in their careers – including Eddie Redmayne, Claire Foy and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The BBC said it faced a decision on whether to reinvest in the Birmingham site where the show is made or finance new projects in the West Midlands.
A statement said: “We have taken the very difficult decision to bring daytime drama ‘Doctors’ to an end after 23 years.
“With super inflation in drama production, the cost of the programme has increased significantly, and further investment is also now required to refurbish the site where the show is made, or to relocate it to another home.
“With a flat licence fee, the BBC’s funding challenges mean we have to make tough choices in order to deliver greater value to audiences.
“We remain fully committed to the West Midlands and all of the funding for ‘Doctors’ will be reinvested into new programming in the region.
“We would like to thank all the ‘Doctors’ cast and crew who have been involved in the show since 2000. We know the crucial role ‘Doctors’ has played in nurturing talent, and we will work to develop new opportunities to support skills in scripted programming.
“The final episode will screen in December 2024 and we are working closely with BBC Studios to give it the finale it deserves.”

Martin Scorsese had to curb Leonardo DiCaprio’s improvisation in Killers of the Flower Moon

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Scorsese had to stop Leonardo DiCaprio from improvising.
The iconic filmmaker has reunited with DiCaprio and Robert De Niro for new Western epic ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, and he has reflected on the actors’ respective approaches, with the former’s “endless” discussions and improvisation on set.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Scorsese laughed: “Then Bob didn’t want to talk.
“Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes a little bit.
“And we’d tell him, ‘You don’t need that dialogue.’ ”
The film marks the sixth time the ‘Gangs of New York’ star has worked with the legendary director, while the filmmaker has now teamed up with De Niro on 10 pictures.
However, this is the first time the actors have appeared together in a full length Scorsese movie.
The ‘Taxi Driver’ director teamed up with Eric Roth to pen the script for the film based on David Grann’s 2017 book of the same name – which focused on the FBI investigation into the murders of Osage Native Americans in Oklahoma throughout the 1920s – with DiCaprio originally lined up to play head investigator Tom White.
However, Scorsese ended up completely overhauling the script after two years, and changing the story’s focus to the character of Ernest Burkhart and his marriage to an Osage woman named Mollie.
After changing the script, Scorsese switched DiCaprio’s role – giving him the part of Ernest – while Jesse Plemons took on the role of Tom White, who became a supporting character.
And it was DiCaprio who felt the story should be told from the Osage community’s perspective instead of the bureau agents investigating.
Speaking to The Irish Times, the Scorsese said: “Leo came to me and asked, ‘Where is the heart of this story?’
“I had had meetings and dinners with the Osage, and I thought, ‘Well, there’s the story’.
“The real story, we felt, was not necessarily coming from the outside, with the bureau, but rather from the inside, from Oklahoma.”

Austin Butler hails Tom Hardy as one of most ‘intense’ actors he’s ever seen once ‘action’ is called

OHMYGOSSIP — Austin Butler says Tom Hardy is one of the most “intense” actors he’s ever seen at work.
The ‘Elvis’ star, 32, will appear alongside the ‘Venom’ actor, 46, in upcoming drama ‘The Bikeriders’, and said Tom switched from being charming and funny to a heavyweight thespian as soon as the cameras started rolling.
Austin told fellow actor Josh Brolin, 55, in a chat for Interview magazine: “After the spectacle of ‘Elvis’ and ‘Dune,’ and these characters that were quite different from me, to be able to go to something where – there’s an intimate sensitivity to ‘The Bikeriders’.
“It’s the roaring engines and the smell of grease that we got to be around. It was nice to go to something that felt more independent and play in that space for a bit.
“But one of the things I was thinking about earlier, when you were talking about that relaxation on set, was that Tom Hardy surprised me.
“I pictured him to be this grizzly bear, always serious. And really, he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.
“He’d be joking around until action is called and then go into being the most intense guy I’d ever seen.”
Josh replied: “It reminds me of the stories I heard of (Marlon) Brando, talking to the camera operator until the moment action is called.”
Austin added: “I learned a lot from Tom. It reminds me of you, where you can be in that relaxed place where you’re receptive to your environment, and then when the time comes, you can click into what the scene demands.
“That one was also great because I had a couple of weeks off from ‘Dune.’ I went back, and just started training on the motorcycles every day.”
Austin and Tim are the leads in director Jeff Nichols’ gang drama, which also stars 30-year-old Jodie Comer.
The film was inspired by Danny Lyon’s book and charts the rise and fall of a fictional 1960s Hells Angels-style motorcycle club in America’s Midwest.
Disney and 20th Century Studios were scheduled to open ‘The Bikeriders’ in cinemas on 1 December, but it has been taken off the calendar for now amid the SAG-AFTRA strike still bringing Hollywood to a standstill.

AJ Odudu reveals why she can’t replace Holly Willoughby on This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — AJ Odudu had ruled herself out of replacing Holly Willoughby on ‘This Morning’.
The ‘Big Brother’ presenter admitted she is more of a “night owl” and couldn’t cope with an early morning alarm to get to the studio in time for the 10am ITV daytime show.
She told The Sun newspaper: “I couldn’t cope with the early starts. I don’t do mornings.
“They have to be there at, like, 8am. I’m a night owl. But of course the idea is flattering.”
Holly recently announced she was stepping down after 14 years on the sofa, with ITV bosses now looking for a permanent replacement.
The 42-year-old star – who has Harry, 13, Belle, 11, and eight-year-old Chester with husband Dan Baldwin – wrote on Instagram: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to ‘This Morning’.
“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.
“Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.”
Holly referenced former presenters, husband and wife duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, who insisted the show belongs to the viewers rather than the stars who inhabit the sofa.
She added: “Richard and Judy said ‘we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers’.
“It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family.
“I will miss you all so much.”

Emma Tammi grew emotional over Five Nights at Freddy animatronics

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Tammi was “floored” when she saw the ‘Five Nights At Freddys’ creatures for the first time.
The filmmaker has taken the reins on the horror video game adaptation and though she had been there “every step of the way” of the Jim Henson’s Creature Shop work on the animatronics used in the film, she couldn’t help but get emotional when she saw their finished creations for the first time.
She told SFX magazine: “I had seen the design process and then the build process, every step of the way.
“So I had been gradually getting more and more excited and more and more invested into how these creatures were coming to life.
“But then when we actually got them up and running on their own for the first time, it was so exhilarating and unexpectedly emotional. I was floored.”
And Emma even felt the creations had a life and soul of their own.
She added: “I couldn’t have been happier with how they turned out and once they were walking and moving around, you could really feel a soul of these characters coming to life, which is incredible considering they’re inanimate objects.”
One cast member in particular developed a strong bond with the characters.
Emma said “We have one 10-year-old actress, Piper Rubio, and she was so in love with these animatronics that she would hug them every day when she got to set and hug them every day when she left set.
“To this day, she misses them. She absolutely created a bond with them that is beyond anything I could have expected or wished for, and was so deeply authentic. That was incredible to see.”

Shirley Ballas apologises for Taser comments

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas has apologised for suggesting women in the UK carry Tasers to protect themselves.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge said women should “become more vigilant” and carry the weapons – which shock people with a 50,000 volt charge – in order to keep themselves safe but withdrew her comments after discovering they are illegal in the UK.
During an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Women’s Hour’, she said: “All women in today’s society should become more vigilant. It’s important that people take care of themselves, maybe carry Tasers, things like that.
“My message goes out to all women, not just women in ‘profile’ it’s taking care of yourself, it’s educating yourself.
“What can you do if you were in a situation that happened to take hold of you, that you had no idea what to do.”
However, Krupa Padhy explained: “We must say that stun guns or tasers are prohibited weapons and it is an offence to possess them.”
Shirley later said: “I apologise for my comments. I did not know Tasers were illegal in the UK, and I do not encourage violence in any way shape or form.
“I wanted to get the message across that women should feel empowered to protect themselves, and incorrectly mentioned the use of Tasers.”
Shirley’s comments came after she revealed she was worried about becoming the subject of a kidnap plot, like former ‘This Morning’ host Holly Willoughby.
She told the Daily Star: “The news about Holly has made me a little bit nervous. Let’s just say, I travel everywhere with caution.
“I’m not free as a bird like I used to be. I’m always a little bit cautious about where I’m going, especially if I’m out on my own.
“I would be wrong to say, ‘I don’t worry about it.’ Of course you do. These are the times that we live in and I think it’s very sad.”

This Morning editor blindsided by Holly Willoughby quitting

OHMYGOSSIP — The editor of ‘This Morning’ reportedly found out Holly Willoughby was quitting just 20 minutes before she announced the news on Instagram.
The 42-year-old presenter had co-hosted the show since 2009 but sensationally announced she was leaving this week for the sake of herself and her family after an alleged kidnap plot.
And, Martin Frizell, 64, who has championed Holly during her time on the show, was reportedly left stunned by the news.
A source told The Mail On Sunday newspaper: “Despite Martin’s loyalty to Holly, he wasn’t in her inner sanctum when it really mattered. He sided with her throughout the difficulties with Phil [Phillip Schofield] and besides, it’s his show, but instead Holly dealt with Emma [ITV’s head of daytime output Emma Gormley], over it all.
“Martin always spoke so highly of Holly. He adored her and he was extremely loyal.
“It’s the talk of ITV that he was told so late on. It doesn’t exactly seem overly respectful. What a way to treat an editor.”
Holly’s decision to leave also left many staff members upset.
The insider added: “It has been one thing after another. It’s like a soap opera and that’s OK if you’re one of the highly-paid stars getting chauffeured to work and back, but if you’re grafting behind the scenes to keep things afloat, it’s incredibly frustrating.
“Holly decides to leave, she puts it on Instagram. Imagine how that makes you feel. There were tears. The team has been through so much in the last year. Many feel they are at the end of their tethers. It has been heartbreaking, and hard, to watch it all happen.”

Lisa Frankenstein gets release date

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ will be released on February 9, 2024.
The directorial debut from Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda Williams stars Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse and has been written by ‘Juno’ and ‘Jennifer’s Body’ scribe Diablo Cody.
Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest and Carla Gugino also star in the movie, which had its first teaser trailer released this week.
The film, set in 1989, follows an unpopular high school student who accidentally reanimates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm, and then begins to rebuild him into her dream man using a broken tanning bed in her garage.
Zelda previously shared about the movie on x (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “Zomb-com incoming! I repeat, zomb-com incoming!
“I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that!
“But it’s also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I’ve ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!”
She admitted this “wasn’t meant to be” her first feature film, with three other projects being scrapped before this one got picked up.
She continued: “Also, for anyone coming here to be like ‘THIS is your first feature?!’, it wasn’t meant to be.
“I had three films fall apart before this, because movies often do. It was discouraging, to say the least. But the fact this one survived and THRIVED to be my first? A f****** gift”.
Meanwhile, she noted the movie would be heavily influenced by 1980s cinema, right down to the actors playing high school students being noticeably older than their characters.
She added: “Also, because it’s already come up: this movie is a stylized 80s [and] involves a zombie. It is NOT reality and doesn’t pretend to be.
“Stylistically, the actors are NOT teens but are playing teens (and an undead guy) because that was how many of my fave 80s movies were. Zee End. (sic)”

Francis Lawrence regrets Mockingjay split

OHMYGOSSIP — Francis Lawrence regrets splitting ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay’ into two movies.
The 52-year-old filmmaker admitted if he had the chance to adapt the book again, he would keep it as a single movie, rather than two films released one year apart.
Speaking to PEOPLE about the movies starring Jennifer Lawrence, he said: “I totally regret it. I totally do. I’m not sure everybody does, but I definitely do.”
‘Mockingjay – Part 1’ was released in November 2014, with ‘Mockingjay – Part 2’ in November 2015 and although he said the team agreed the “two halves of Mockingjay had their own separate dramatic questions”, Lawrence has come to see that he made a mistake.
He added: “What I saw in retrospect — and after hearing all the reactions and feeling the kind of wrath of fans, critics and people at the split — is that it was frustrating. And I can understand it.
“In an episode of television, if you have a cliffhanger, you have to wait a week or you could just binge it and then you can see the next episode. But making people wait a year, I think, came across as disingenuous, even though it wasn’t. Our intentions were not to be disingenuous.”
However, he believes there was one advantage; he was able to include more of the source material across the two movies.
He said: “In truth, we got more on the screen out of the book than we would’ve in any of the other movies because you’re getting close to four hours of screen time for the final book. But, I see and understand how it frustrated people.”

Catherine Tyldesley and Shayne Ward’s dream cameos for The Good Ship Murder

OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine Tyldesley and Shayne Ward want Jane McDonald and David Tennant to star in ‘The Good Ship Murder’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actors co-star as First Officer Kate Woods and cabaret singer Jack Grayling in the new Channel 5 mystery drama and have high hopes for some celebrity cameos in season two.
Catherine, 40, told RadioTimes.com: “I’ve already got a lot of my friends who are like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe you went filming in Malta on a cruise ship! Is there a second series? I need to get on to my agent!’
“Like, a lot of actors all want to do’ Death in Paradise’ because of the location. And I’ve already got people asking me if we’re going again.
“It would be sacrilegious to not give Jane McDonald some kind of cameo – [even] walking past in the background, she’s got to get in there at some point.”
And Shane, 38, added: “I’ve already got a lovely rapport with [Jane]. So, I mean, she has to come onto the ship and do something. There’s no two ways about it.
“[It would be] an absolute dream to even be in a scene with someone like David Tennant. He can steal the scene a thousand times over, I’d just be grateful.”

Layton Williams says Strictly bosses are open to trans contestant

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC bosses are open to including a transgender contestant on ‘Striclty Come Dancing’.
‘Bad Education’ star Layton Williams, 29, has praised show bosses for including same-sex couples and said it would be “beautiful” if they include a trans person in the future.
Layton, who wore a skirt for the Viennese waltz routine to the ‘Grease’ soundtrack was asked if they would like to see a trans contestant on the show next year.
He told Metro: “That would be beautiful. I think producers are open to all beautiful people from all walks and that would be superb.”
Layton has also been overwhelmed by the support for his same-sex partnership on the show with Nikita Kuzmin.
He said: “A parent said something like “my two-year-old boy just goes, the boys, the boys!’ He gets excited when we’re on, which is so cute. Kids are so cute, they just see past anything and are so open-hearted with things like that. I’ve had teachers and parents just thank me for being that shining light to them.
“It’s been a really fab couple of weeks taking in that information and has given me the pump I needed.”
And Nikita is excited to be in a same-sex partnership after watching John Whaite and Johannes Radebe make it to the final two years ago.
He said: “To be honest, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do on the show, ever since I saw John and Johannes.
“They were absolutely fabulous, an iconic partnership.
“I was just like, I would like the same opportunity, and it’s been amazing so far. A dream come true!”

Karen Hauer and Eddie Kadi’s land low leaderboard score amid report she’s split from husband!

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Hauer and her celebrity partner Eddie Kadi came close to the bottom of the latest ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ leaderboard amid reports the professional dancer has split from her husband.
The 41-year-old and comedian Eddie scored 24 out of 40 on Saturday (14.10.23) night’s episode of the BBC One show after they finished near the top of the table on last week’s show, after it was reported she has broken up with Jordan Wyn-Jones, 34, following their wedding in 2022.
Karen – who is the longest-serving ‘Strictly’ pro – is yet to comment on the report, but a source told the Daily Mirror: “Karen and Jordan have had a tough time in the past few months and decided to split. It’s obviously very sad for both of them.
“But there’s no ill-will whatsoever. The split is amicable, and they wish each other the best.”
Speculation about Karen’s marriage started last week when she was seen at the Pride of Britain awards in London without her wedding ring.
In August, Karen revealed she and Jordan were having counselling to help them with their relationship.
She told Hello! magazine: “Counselling. You know what I think communication is massive but learning how to communicate, you know, so we get outside help.
“So whenever we’re having tricky moments or anything like that, it’s just seeing the vulnerable side of each other and understanding it and knowing that both of us are working on things because nobody is perfect.
“There is no such thing as a happy marriage or a happy relationship with the perfect couple.
“It’s about dealing with things the right way and not just running away from things, and I guess that’s what makes us tick even better and understand one another.”
Fans speculated Karen looked “upset” with the ‘Strictly’ judges’ score for her and Eddie’s American Smooth routine.
Week four of the BBC One show saw the 13 remaining couples performed a variety of dance routines, from Viennese waltzes to a paso doble.
At the top of the leaderboard on Saturday was theatre star Layton Williams and his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin.
Their cha-cha to Whitney Houston’s 2009 song ‘Million Dollar Bill’ impressed all four judges, and gained them three nines and a 10 from Motsi Mabuse, to make a final score of 37.
The show’s co-host Claudia Winkleman revealed their performance marked the earliest 10 awarded to a cha-cha in Strictly’s 21-series history.
Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman and his professional partner Katya Jones scored 33 for their salsa,
At the bottom of the leaderboard was Paralympian Jody Cundy and his professional partner Jowita Przystał, who received 19 for their salsa.
The ‘Strictly’ results show airs on Sunday 15 October at 7.15pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and will feature a performance from singer Beverley Knight.

‘Women hate women’: Kimberly Wyatt found competitive nature of Dancing On Ice tough

OHMYGOSSIP — Kimberly Wyatt found the atmosphere on ‘Dancing On Ice’ “horrible” because “women revel in a woman failing”.
The Pussycat Dolls singer came third on the show in 2022 and she and her husband Max Rogers have called for females to support one another because the competitive nature of the competition was unpleasant.
Kimberly said on the ‘Man Baggage’ podcast: “Women hate women. And there are instances where the women do not want to root for other women doing well.
“There are often times where women revel in a woman failing, which is horrible.
“There’s a competitive nature that’s born in women.
“We are born to compete to get a man, so I feel there’s this competitive nature between women that needs to be resolved.”
Max added: “You found that recently.
“The Dancing On Ice experience showed us how much work needs to be done with women supporting women.”
The 41-year-old beauty is learning to “speak up” to try and resolve conflict but she finds it hard to address how she is feeling about particular situations.
She said: “I have started finding ways to deal with the conflict, and part of it is you have to speak up about who you are. You can’t help who you are, we are all homo sapiens, built in many different ways for many different reasons. But you do have to have a space that is safe enough that you can be honest about it.
“So even in our marriage, we have spent a lot of time getting to a place over the years where I will just speak. That doesn’t make the conflict resolution any easier.
“But it means it is out in the open and we have to deal with it together, rather than me going to the studio and dancing it off then exploding a week later.
“I wish I could be more fiery and know exactly how I am feeling, and have a big blowout and be over it.
“But unfortunately I am not made up like that. I am a touchy-feely, emotional being who takes time to go through the layers of whatever.
“I’m a very internal person. I started dancing when I was seven because I had lots of traumas and I didn’t know how to enjoy the reflection, looking back.“

Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway wanted for This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway are tipped to be the new permanent hosts of ‘This Morning’.
The presenting duo – who currently front ‘Good Morning Britain’ once or twice a week together – are at the top of producers’ wish-lists following Holly Willoughby’s departure earlier this week.
Ben has already been filling in as one of the rotating hosts used since Phillip Schofield left the programme in May following his “unwise but not illegal” affair with a much-younger colleague, and show bosses think he and Kate have great chemistry.
A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “Ben and Kate are adored by the public when they host together. Fans love them.
“While the bosses love Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson, they know they need someone more heavyweight. Kate is a journalist yet is also funny and warm.”
ITV’s head of daytime Emma Gormley is in charge of finding the new hosts, and other names in the frame include married couples Matt and Emma Willis and Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty.
It is believed some executives at the channel are pushing for the idea of bringing in relative unknowns to front the show.
Holly announced she was leaving ‘This Morning’ after 14 years, days after a man was charged with soliciting to commit murder over an alleged plot to kidnap her.

Henry Selick wants Nightmare Before Christmas prequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Henry Selick is interested in making a ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ prequel.
The 70-year-old director helmed the classic 1993 stop-motion animated festive flick, which was conceived by Tim Burton, and though he insisted a sequel to the film is unlikely to happen, he likes the idea of exploring Jack Skellington’s back story.
He told People magazine: “[‘Nightmare…’] is a perfect movie [that] came out of the perfect time, only to grow into something far bigger over the years.”
“I think Tim in particular feels like, why mess with that?
“He certainly doesn’t need to make more money from a sequel. He has had so many other successes, and so far nobody’s come up with a great idea for a sequel.
“And I still think that Tim gets to decide. I don’t think there’s any idea that would convince him.
That being said, “It might be more interesting to do a prequel. There might be a more interesting story there about how Jack became the King of Halloweentown.”
And if a prequel came about, Chris Sarandon, who provided Jack’s speaking voice, would “absolutely” be on board.
He said: “To quote Henry, ‘F*** yeah.’ If there were a sequel, I’d be there in a minute.”
Henry previously revealed he and Tim weren’t on board for a sequel because Disney would want them to use computer-generated animation.
He told Collider: “(A) sequel has come up several times. Initially, (Disney) always said, ‘But it will have to be CG’. And that was a non-starter for me. It certainly was for Tim Burton.”
The ‘Coraline’ filmmaker did suggest that both he and Tim would be open to making a short film based on ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’.
Selick said: “The idea of a short has never come up in the past. I think Tim might be open to a short. It would have to be so refreshing… such a new take to justify making a sequel, but a short makes good sense.”

Todd Haynes ‘fascinated’ by Julianne Moore

OHMYGOSSIP — Todd Haynes finds Julianne Moore’s work “fascinating”.
The 62-year-old director’s latest movie, ‘May December’, marks the fifth time he has worked with the Oscar-winning actress because they share similar interests when it comes to the themes of their work, and he is always impressed by what she brings to the screen.
Speaking to Deadline’s Breaking Baz column, Todd gushed: “Oh, she’s singular in so many ways.
“There’s this interaction between something transparent and inexplicable, impenetrable about her … or not impenetrable, but there’s an interplay between something that you can’t entirely comprehend and then something you can see right though.
“And the way she navigates between the two is just a mysterious, fascinating thing that she brings to the medium. And I think she knows that the camera sees things that the human eye doesn’t see in the room, but the camera sees and the audience then sees it on the screen.
“So everything about this medium is built for things she understands and brings to life.
“And she’s interested in similar kinds of inscrutable subjects and characters as I am, and stories that are not easily resolved. And characters who are far from heaven, far from heroic.”
Natalie Portman, who also stars in and produced the melodrama, initially brought the script to Todd and it “really landed” with him and he liked the fact it made him feel “uncomfortable”.
He said: “I just thought the script was just remarkable. And it made me uncomfortable and made me question myself.
“Oh, the attitudes that you bring to these characters keep shifting, and neither of the women are ever redeemed by the story.
“And just when you think you know what you feel about a character or an event, something happens and you have to rethink it .
“That doesn’t happen in a lot of movies today. And that’s what movies are, as far as I’m concerned.”
