Diane Morgan’s Mandy starts filming third series

OHMYGOSSIP — Diane Morgan has started filming the third series of ‘Mandy’.
The ‘Motherland’ star is working on a new season of her hit BBC comedy series – which she writes and directs as well as playing the titular role – as the beloved character battles her own experiences of the cost of living crisis with some poorly paid gigs alongside returning faces like Roger Sloman, 77, Alastair Green, 52, Michael Spicer, 46, Jackie Clune, 57, and Yuriko Kotani, 42.
In a statement of sorts, the 48-year-old actress joked: “All the quotes used in TV Press releases like this are written by Chat GPT now. This one certainly is.
“When you’re writing and directing and performing in something you can’t waste time thinking of some pointless quote just to show off.
“No one reads beyond the first words anyway; because they just repetitively say how thrilled and excited everyone is. No one’s reading this now, are they? Only a fool would do that. Come on, there must be a book you could be reading now instead of this nonsense.”
Meanwhile, the BBC gushed that they were “thrilled and excited” to be working with Diane again on the show which will include new stars Beverley Callard, 66, Nathan Foad, 30, and Robbie Gee, 53.
Josh Cole, the BBC’s Head of Comedy, added: “We are thrilled and excited to be returning to Mandy with the peerless Diane Morgan.”
Diane – who shot to fame playing the comedy character Philomena Cunk in ‘Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe’ – was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton and spilt about her battle to success.
She told the audience: “Ladies and gentlemen, I should not be here today. I shouldn’t. There’s been a dreadful mistake. I got a G in maths. A G! But I thank you for your generosity.
“Thirty years ago just outside this building, I bumped into Maxine Peake who is also a Boltonian and we had met two weeks earlier when we were both auditioning to get into Manchester Polytechnic for the acting course.
“Neither of us got in. It took us three long years to get into drama school and during that time I had various jobs, packing worming tablets, selling fish and chips and I was also an Avon Lady.
“Most of these jobs I’d been sacked from. I was fired from the Last Drop Village tea rooms in Bolton for not knowing what a cream tea is, I thought it was a tea with cream in it. But now I have an honorary doctorate! Unbelievable.”

Bradley Walsh gets pranked by the real Fanny Chmelar a decade after The Chase hilarity

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Walsh got pranked by the real Fanny Chmelar after classic ‘The Chase’ moment.
The 63-year-old host famously lost himself in fits of laughter over the skier’s name during an episode of the ITV quiz show, and he has been confronted by her at midnight in a joke for ‘Michael McIntyre’s Big Show’.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “As if he weren’t bewildered enough by being woken by Michael and the crew, he suddenly finds himself face to face with Fanny.”
Bradley was asleep in his hotel room when he got pulled from his bed by the skier 12 years after he was crying with laughter over her moniker.
The insider added: “He finds himself a surprise participant in the Midnight Gameshow on Michael’s hit show and as part of the experience he is suddenly confronted by the skier.
“As if he weren’t bewildered enough by being dragged from his slumber by McIntyre and the film crew he suddenly finds himself face to face with Fanny.”
The 37-year-old German skier is there in person for the prank, which was reportedly set up by Bradley’s son barney and wife Donna.
The infamous 2011 clip – which has been viewed more than three million times – saw the host laughing as a contestant was asked “In what sport does Fanny Chmelar compete for Germany?”
Even chaser ‘The Governess’ Anne Hegarty couldn’t stop herself from giggling, while she and quizzer Brynn Jones both incorrectly guessed she was a horse rider.
Bradley previously revealed he actually cheated to get the ITV show on air after betting producers he could beat one of the chasers to prove the contestants would stand a chance.
He told ‘Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp’: “What they didn’t realise was the sheets with the questions and the answers on were lying face down on my end of the desk, I could see the print through and I could read the answers backwards and I read them.
“So every time they come in on the head to head as if they were at the table, I’d smash both of them.
“And as I walked away, I took the piece of paper and put it on the the other table so no one saw it. So I’d actually cheated.”

Big Brother housemates will be punished for breaking the rules

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Big Brother’ contestants Hallie and Olivia will both face consequences for breaking the rules.
Host AJ Odudu, 35, has revealed that the pair will be punished for sharing secret messages between themselves about nominations, and the aftermath will be featured on Thursday’s (19.10.23) instalment of the ITV1 reboot of the revolutionary reality show.
AJ – who co-hosts the series with Will Best – said while presenting the companion show ‘Big Brother: Late and Live’: “I can confirm that we’ve only had a blooming rule break!”
She added that the infringement would not impact Zak and Henry being the second pair of housemates up for eviction after receiving the most amount of nominations from the rest of the gang.
She added: “Don’t worry, this didn’t affect the outcome of this week’s nominations.
“You’ll have to tune in tomorrow at 9 pm to find out how Big Brother will deal with these two. Punishment time!”
The pair will be made an example of after being found out spelling out secret messages on each other’s backs in regards to who they put up to get the boot.
While talking about their choices, Hallie started to spell out letters on Olivia’s back.
“N,O?,” Olivia uttered, to which Hallie responded: “Okay, stop spelling now!”
As Hallie wrote out two more letters on her back, Olivia added: “Yep, yep. Get you.”
The episode also included the two potential evictees finding out they faced the public vote about their future in the house after getting the most nominations.
Zak was put up by Hallie, Kerry, Chanelle, Jenkin and Henry and Henry faced condemnation from Dylan, Olivia, Noky and Jenkin.
The first housemate to be kicked out was Farida Khalifa who recently admitted she had had a game plan the whole time.
The 50-year-old makeup artist told The Sun newspaper: “I set out what I wanted to achieve and that was to gain followers and grow my business.
“You have to be smart. People might say I was all “me, me, me.” Well absolutely, why shouldn’t I?”

‘It was a disaster’: Wes Anderson learned lessons from Bottle Rocket failure

OHMYGOSSIP — Wes Anderson was forever “changed” by the failure of his directorial debut ‘Bottle Rocket’.
The 54-year-old filmmaker’s 1996 picture did not prove to be a commercial success – although it has since gained a cult following – and he explained that the experience taught him some valuable lessons.
Speaking at the Lumiere Film Festival in France, Wes said: “I had an idea of what I wanted to do, and no one could convince me that we shouldn’t do it, my confidence was the highest, then.
“When we finally made it and showed it to an audience, they hated it. I was so shocked, it was a disaster.”
The acclaimed filmmaker – whose credits include ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ and ‘Asteroid City’ – continued: “But that changed me: Had I known that before, I probably wouldn’t have made that movie, and I’m glad of that, because the blind confidence you have when you’re young, you need it!”
Anderson’s unique style can be seen in all of his movies but explained that it is never at the forefront of his mind when he begins work on a new project.
He said: “I think about what’s new for this movie, how do I make this movie the best it can be, how do I get the greatest collaborators together. And yet every time I make a movie, the first thing people say is: ‘You can sure tell who made this one!’
“I feel my movies connect to each other in ways that I don’t make an effort for them to, and I accept that about myself. But for me, each movie is a completely new adventure.”
Wes also revealed that he likes the cast of his films to live together during production to add more “emotion” to the creative experience.
He said: “It makes the whole experience much more emotional, and I think the actors like to be around other actors, and give themselves over to a project fully when there is a chance.”

‘I basically wrote off Hollywood’: Rick Riordan didn’t want Percy Jackson on screen again after film issues

OHMYGOSSIP — Rick Riordan “wrote off Hollywood” after being left frustrated by the ‘Percy Jackson’ films.
The 59-year-old author has never watched either of the movie adaptations of his work – ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’ and ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ – and refused to consider other takes on the books as the flicks had deviated from the source material so much.
In an interview with Variety, Rick said: “After the movie experience, I basically wrote off Hollywood for a long, long time. I really didn’t want to have anything to do with the film industry.
“There were many years of me saying, ‘I don’t want to engage. I don’t want to think about other adaptations. I’m done.'”
‘Percy Jackson’ is now returning to the screen in a Disney+ TV series that will premiere in December and Rick ultimately relented on his anti-adaptation stance.
He explained: “But when it started to become clear that something was going to happen with me or without me, I had a long talk with Becky, my wife. We said, ‘Well, if something’s going to happen, it’s probably best to give it one more shot.'”
The new TV series features Walker Scobell as the titular young demigod alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri and Rick is convinced that the small screen is a better fit for ‘Percy Jackson’.
The writer said: “My feeling was always that television was the better format for ‘Percy’, because it allows us a larger canvas to tell more of the story.
“And to be more faithful to the source material, which is what the fans of the books really would love to see.”
Rick felt that one of the “fundamental mistakes” made in the movies was to age up the main characters but he couldn’t be more pleased with the trio that will lead the TV show.
He said: “Having been through the production process, I totally get why they did that. It’s much easier to work with older actors.
“(But) once you have older teens, it’s a completely different dynamic. You lose so much of the wonder. The magic of being a middle grader doesn’t come across the same way. There’s a jaded teenage quality.”
Rick added of the new cast members: “They’re perfect, and they’ve only become more perfect.”

Great British Bake Off will send two contestants home next week

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Great British Bake Off’ will eliminate two bakers from the competition next week.
The Channel 4 show didn’t send any of the contestants home on Wednesday (18.10.23) night as Tasha missed the technical and showstopper bakes due to illness.
At the end of the episode, new host Alison Hammond said: “You’re all staying. However, next week, two bakers will leave the tent.”
It means the pressure is on when ‘Bake Off’ returns to its usual Tuesday time slot – having been delayed by a day becasuse of the ENgland v Italy Euro 2024 qualifier – with Pastry Week.
This week’s theme was all about chocolate, as Matty won Star Baker for the first time.
Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood admitted Cristy, Rowan and Saku were in trouble after their chocolate cake boxes failed to impress, but Tasha’s absence means they’re getting another chance.
Asked who was at risk of leaving, Prue said: “Definitely Cristy. Definitely Saku.”
Paul added: “I think coming into today, they weren’t doing particularly well. And, actually, both of them are much of a much.
“Saku’s was quite dry but the flavour was good, and Cristy’s [was] quite dry but the flavour was good – so they’re almost identical.”
However, Tasha not being involved in the last two challenges meant the judges were left with a tough decision when it came to eliminating someone from the competition.
Paul explained: “We have to decide whether someone should go or we leave it for another week, and that’s what Prue and I had to go through and sit through again and have a chat and see where we are.”
‘The Great British Bake Off’ returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday (24.10.23) at 8pm.

Christopher Biggins wants to die on stage

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Biggins thinks dying on stage “would be perfect”.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ star wants to continue working in the theatre until he perishes, and he’d be delighted to meet his maker “in the middle of an act”.
The 74-year-old entertainer told the Daily Star newspaper: “I won’t retire. I’ll go on as long as I can walk. If I died in the middle of the act, that would be perfect. I can think of nothing nicer.”
Meanwhile, the panto legend admitted that he would love to stay in the industry, but insisted his cue to leave would be if women begin taking on the role of panto dame – a role traditionally given to a man in drag.
He added: “I want to keep doing panto because the money is very tempting. I love it. It’s great.”
“I will leave pantos when they start to use women to play the panto dame. Things are changing so drastically. It would be a shame. It would be terrible.
“Who knows what will happen? There is still a market for the old-fashioned pantomimes. I remember when principal boys were women in fishnets slapping their thighs saying, ‘It’s 12 o’clock and still no sign of Dick.’ ”
Christopher will take part in Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre’s festive production of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’ alongside Ashley Banjo, 35, and his dance troupe, Diversity.
Michael Ockwell, the theatre’s CEO said in May: “What an exceptional cast we have this year. I am thrilled that panto royalty in the form of the one and only Christopher Biggins is joining us in a very special role, he is loved by audiences across the UK.”
And the former ‘Porridge’ star recently revealed that he has come across the paranormal after sensing a “terrible coldness”.
He said: “Do you know, I have just been asked to do a programme about ghosts. And I have seen a ghost – in a hotel.
“I was in bed, and there was a terrible coldness that came through in the middle of the night. And I woke up, and I saw a woman walking at the bottom of the bed. It was extraordinary.”

Paul O’Grady’s husband reveals late star’s final moments

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul O’Grady died sharing a joint with his husband.
The 67-year-old presenter passed away at home in March and Andre Portasio – who he married in 2017 – has told of the “very ordinary day” they had spent together in the ‘For the Love of Dogs’ star’s final hours, which included watching TV and enjoying a cannabis-filled cigarette.
According to The Sun newspaper, Andre told 320 guests including Gaby Roslin, Dawn French, Alan Carr and Amanda Holden at a memorial service at London’s Bloomsbury Ballroom on Wednesday (18.10.23): “We’d had a very ordinary day, just watching TV together at home, when Paul said he wanted to make a ‘cup of tea,’ and that was our little code for rolling a spliff.
“So Paul went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea, brought it back, lit it and started smoking it – and that was our last time together, the last thing we did. He passed away there in his chair.”
Andre also joked about Paul’s hatred of the cheap hotels when he had to travel for work.
A source said: “It was a very moving speech, with some lovely memories and stories – and everyone laughed a lot – but it was also surprisingly candid. It was just Andre’s way of dealing with grief and getting things off his chest.”
Paul’s friend Julian Clary also shared his favourite memories of his late pal.
He told the guests: “I went over to Paul’s for dinner, and he served me pumpkin soup. After that, the evening got a bit a wild – and I can’t remember very much.
“The next day, Paul called me and said, ‘How did you find the soup?’ and laughed hysterically.
“God knows what he’d put in it!”

Matthew Vaughn wants to remake Star Wars for new generation

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Vaughn wants to “reboot” ‘Star Wars’ for a new generation.
The ‘X-Men: First Class’ filmmaker would love to take the reins on a film in the franchise and admitted he loves the idea of taking the series’ most familiar characters and creating his own version of the story for a modern audience.
Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, he said: “I would say, for me, doing a ‘Star Wars’ movie is to play with the characters I loved.
“So if they said to me, ‘Do you want to reboot ‘Star Wars’ and actually have Luke Skywalker, Solo, and Vader, and you do your version of it,’ everyone would say, ‘You’re an idiot to try,’ but that would excite me.
“Why not [reboot]? Bond, do you mind Bond? I mean, you asked me who’s going to play the next Wolverine. Why are these [‘Star Wars’] characters so hallowed that from ’77, you can’t redo it for a new audience?”
Matthew believes moving away from the original characters in later spin-off projects has been a misstep for the franchise.
He said: “’Star Wars’ is the Skywalker family, and that’s where I think they’ve gone wrong. They’ve done brilliantly in the TV [shows on Disney+], but it needs an epic new film, and that’s what I would do.
“Everyone’s going to go bats*** crazy, but let’s bring it on, because if you want a new generation, make the movie for them. The old generation can hopefully make it well enough that they go, ‘Okay, I’m enjoying it.’”
The 52-year-old director also revealed he and comic book writer Mark Millar had pitched a “three-picture trilogy” on Superman to Warner Bros.
He said: “We pitched how to do a trilogy of Superman movies. Warners wasn’t interested. That’s as far as it went. Never came back around.”
The trilogy would have been inspired by Richard Donner’s films featuring the character.
Matthew added: “I think Donner nailed it.
“I think ‘Wonder Woman’ worked very well because it was basically a Donner Superman film, but reimagined as Wonder Woman. I would’ve done a modern version of the Donner [films].”
“Our big idea was the twist that Krypton doesn’t blow up. It does eventually. The dad was right, he just got his timing wrong. So when Superman’s grown up, suddenly there’s a mass exodus and then all hell breaks loose, and that was our idea.”
His main villains would have been “Zod and Brainiac, basically”, as well as Lex Luthor “until Krypton explodes”.

Deadpool 3 delayed from May 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Deadpool 3’ is reportedly being delayed.
The latest instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series was slated for release in May 2024.
However, according to Deadline, the film – which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman – is unlikely to make the May 3 release date as it was only halfway finished when production was halted in July due to the Screen Actors Guild walkout.
Since ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is further along, it’s been suggested that the film could move back to its original May 3 release date to fill the ‘Deadpool’ gap.
The film is currently scheduled for July 26, 2024.
Director Shawn Levy recently cast doubt on them being finished in time to make the release date.
He told The Wrap: “I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3.
“Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”
Meanwhile, the filmmaker has refused to reveal if the rumour that Taylor Swift has a cameo in the flick is true.
Appearing on ‘The Jess Cagle Show’, he said: “I love the proliferation of casting rumors on the Internet because I never have to say what’s real and what’s fantasy, so I’m just gonna go with the very cliché ‘no comment’ on all things casting in Deadpool 3.”

Steph’s Packed Lunch AXED after three years

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ has been axed after three years.
The daytime show hosted by Steph McGovern is being taken off air this December by Channel 4, so the broadcaster can “invest” in other regional shows outside of London.
In a statement, it explained: “With audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy.
“We remain as committed as ever to our mission to help level up the TV industry outside London and to our 50 per cent origination out-of-London target.”
Channel 4 added: “We will continue to build on the legacy of the show. Evolving what we do in line with our digital ambitions whilst continuing to reflect the lives of, and give a voice to, all our audiences across the UK and hope to work with Steph on other projects soon.”
The show airs weekdays at 12pm, and it’s not known what programme will replace the slot.
Steph is yet to comment on the decision, however, guest presenter and celebrity psychic Inbaal Honigman has reacted and has been left gutted.
She told the Daily Star: “All the Lunchmates are gutted at the news of Steph’s Packed Lunch not returning after Christmas.
“It’s been a supportive, inclusive and welcoming environment for us all, where we felt seen and heard. The show’s commitment to focusing on uplifting, empowering human-interest stories and its cheeky, irreverent tone, means that no matter our age, background or social standing, we were all made to feel as part of the family.
“Personally, I’ll miss the chaos of live TV so much. Going Live means that anything could happen, and any slip of the tongue would be watched by millions.”
Praising Steph, she concluded: “We all adore Steph, who is exactly the same in person as she is on TV. She’s used her platform to ensure everyone gets a voice, and she deserves every ounce of success that comes her way.”

‘The release date was really tough’: Justin Simien feels Barbenheimer overshadowed Haunted Mansion

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Simien is frustrated that ‘Haunted Mansion’ was released in the shadow of ‘Barbenheimer’.
The 40-year-old filmmaker helmed the Disney picture that came out just a week after the two blockbusters and thinks the scheduling contributed to the picture’s disappointing box office performance.
Justin told The Wrap: “I think the release date was really tough – I saw ‘Barbie’ coming from miles away. I was disappointed by some aspects of our release, but I was not really surprised.”
He continued: “There’s a lot of folks in the industry that just kept saying, ‘I don’t know’ and ‘That’ll probably not be as big as it sounds like.’ And I was like, ‘(Barbie) is going to be huge’.
“What ‘Oppenheimer’ did so well – the marketing for ‘Oppenheimer’ embraced the fact that ‘Barbie’ was coming with this gigantic, cultural juggernaut. I don’t know that our campaign necessarily embraced or acknowledged that we were essentially coming out in the shadow of what was clearly such a box office phenomenon.”
The SAG-AFTRA strike also started shortly before the movie was released, meaning that cast members including Tiffany Haddish and LaKeith Stanfield were unable to promote the project.
Simien said: “There was a lot of stuff going on with the strike… a lot of stuff that had nothing to do with the movie that I think really got in the way, and that was frustrating to see because I came up in publicity.
“If you had asked me and sat down with me… I would have seen some of these things coming. I’ll put it that way.”
Simien also claimed that audiences felt a Halloween release would have been more appropriate than a summer launch.
The ‘Dear White People’ helmer said: “I certainly have heard the feeling from a lot of folks, and I can’t say I disagree. This is a much better time (in October) to receive a movie like this.”

Richard Curtis has written a short sequel to Notting Hill

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Curtis has written a sequel to ‘Notting Hill’.
The 66-year-old screenwriter revealed that he has penned a short follow-up to the hit 1999 romcom starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant that would see the pair’s characters getting divorced.
Speaking on the Have You Seen? Podcast, Richard said: “Recently I wrote – I was going to do it for Comic Relief but it wasn’t good enough – I wrote ‘Notting Hill 2’.
“(It) was going to be a 10-minute special set in the divorce lawyer’s office with Hugh and Julia splitting up, and then they both realised they loved each other again.”
Curtis has written hit movies such as ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ and ‘Love Actually’ but opts against making sequels as they are “a tricky road to go down”.
He said: “I do think the second version of a romantic film is a tricky thing because what you do is you start with people who are together and you have to split them apart and then you have to put them back together again.
“The problem with dramas about marriages is that it’s always literally got to be about either divorce or murder and yet the situation with most marriages is that they just go on and on and on.
“Actually the most realistic versions… of how marriage potters along, often I think happens in comedies.”
The screenwriter – who recently vowed not to make “fat” jokes in his work again after being scolded by his daughter Scarlett – also described ‘Love Actually’ as an “atrocious” film.
Curtis said: “‘Love Actually’ is just, be it a good or – as my daughter would say, an atrocious racist, sexist, fattest film – it’s in fact nine romantic comedies done in 10 minutes each.”
