EastEnders star James Bye suffers panto injury, carries on like a ‘trooper’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ star James Bye split his head open during the first scene of his Christmas pantomime performance.
The 39-year-old actor – who is best known as Martin Fowler on the long-running BBC One soap – was playing the Prince in ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ at Aylesbury Waterside when he suffered a nasty injury but bravely continued.
His castmate, Rhiannon Chesterman, posted to her Instagram Story: “Look at our brave Prince @jimmybye! Split his head open in the first scene, carried on, and decided to ‘make a thing of it’ so strapped up his arm for good measure. #Trooper.”
The soap legend also shared the post on his Instagram Story with an embarrassed emoji.
Meanwhile, James became a father for the fourth time in June.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star and his wife Victoria welcomed another baby boy named Rufus into the world on June 18.
The couple – who also have Edward, Louis and Hugo – shared a picture on Instagram of the sleeping tot and wrote: “Rufus Gray… 18.06.23… 8lb 1oz,” along with the news he was going to be nicknamed “Roo”.
Victoria added: “You kept us waiting for such a long time little one, but oh wow were you worth the wait. We’re absolutely over the moon, smitten kittens and just head over heels for you. Our precious little rainbow… and boy have you brought the sun with you. (Like seriously, we’re all melting).
“And erm, check out the hair! A little styler like your brothers already. It’s safe to say. We’re just in love. This first week has been a whirlwind of you. (sic)”
Victoria admitted it was a long labour with many “ups and downs” – but they couldn’t be happier.
She continued: “After a long induction, a long labour, lots of ups and downs and the drama along the way (oh don’t you worry I’ll be filling you in on everything… [red face emoji]) our hearts are near to bursting with the arrival of our precious baby boy…
“I just can’t believe I have him, here, in my arms, safely home and ours to keep for always. It still hasn’t sunk in… I’m definitely still in shock and I still can’t believe he’s mine.
“It’s been a long old journey to get him and now as he lays against my chest, whimpering softly, already starting to root for some booby time I feel like I’m the luckiest mama in the land.
“I’m soaking it all in. Letting my hair sit like a birds nest on my head, letting the washing pile up, letting the hours while away as I hold him, and sniff him (oh that smell) because I’ve waited so long for this moment. And I’m loving every second… xx (sic)”

David Suchet will never play Poirot again

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir David Suchet will never play Poirot again.
The 77-year-old actor portrayed the famous Belgian detective in TV series ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot’ from 1989 to 2013, becoming synonymous with the author’s literary character.
Suchet has had offers to reprise the role of Hercule Poirot once again but he is content with the 13 series and 70 episodes that he filmed.
In an interview with Candis magazine, Suchet was asked if viewers had seen the last of Poirot, to which he replied: “Played by me, yes.”
He added: “I was asked if I’d consider playing him in stories not written by Agatha Christie but I chose not to. The title of the programme was ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot’ and I portrayed the great detective in over 70 of those, every one she wrote that involved him.”
Suchet’s illustrious acting career – which has included television roles in ‘Maxwell’, ‘The Way We Live Now’ and ‘His Dark Materials’ and movies like ‘All My Sons’ and ‘Wing Commander’ – has resulted in him receiving several honours, including an Emmy Award, an OBE in 2008, a CBE in 2011 and a knighthood in 2020, but he didn’t get that honour until two years later because he had COVID.
Suchet says getting his knighthood from Prince William at Windsor Castle was the most incredible moment of his life, and he will be forever be grateful to Poirot for giving him such a wonderful career.
He said: “I’ve been knighted in plays on the stage, but nothing compares to the real thing. Aren’t I lucky? The things I’ve been able to do thanks to that little man.”
Although he is thankful for what the role has given him, David hopes his other work – which includes extensive stage plays – will also be remembered when is gone.
He said: “But while I know Poirot will dominate my obituary when the time comes, I like to think there’ll be a paragraph or two about my other work.”
Although his days solving murder mysteries as Poirot are over, David has no plans to retire from acting anytime soon.
He said: “I would never talk of retirement. I’d prefer to say that the telephone stops ringing.”

Claire Sweeney denies Strictly experience will help Dancing On Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Claire Sweeney insists her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ experience is “irrelevant” to ‘Dancing On Ice’.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress is preparing to strap on her skates for the ITV1 competition show in January and though she took part in the first series of the Latin and ballroom dance programme back in 2004, she doesn’t think the skills she learnt there will make any difference because she’s so filled with “fear”.
Asked if her ‘Strictly’ experience will help, she told Prima magazine: “No – whatever experience you’ve had, it’s irrelevant if you have the fear.
“I’m struggling to stop and I get nervous doing anything on my left leg because I feel my right side is stronger, so I said to the team, ‘Can I get a routine for someone who skates on a right leg and can’t stop?’ “
The 52-year-old star – who has son Jaxon, eight, with former partner Daniel Reilly – admitted her past skating experience is limited too.
She said: “I remember going to a rink when I was a kid and my brother had an accident so we never went again.
“I’ve had a go on one of those penguin skating aids at Christmas, and now I’m looking forward to being able to go to Somerset House and skate in front of my son.”
And Claire doesn’t think she’s got any chance of winning the show.
Asked if she thinks she can win, she admitted: “I keep telling myself I have no chance.
“Ryan Thomas is so good – the first time he got on the ice, he could skate backwards and Greg Rutherford is amazing.
“He played ice hockey as a kid, so he was fearless.
“But you never know, I’ll have my own journey.”

Zack Snyder promises ‘insane’ cut of Rebel Moon

OHMYGOSSIP — Zack Snyder’s R-rated version of ‘Rebel Moon’ is a “little bit more insane” than the streaming-friendly cut.
The 57-year-old director’s first in the two-part sci-fi series ‘Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire’ arrived on Netflix last week, with ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: Scargiver’ set to follow in spring, and both are rated PG-13, or 12A in the UK, and the filmmaker has also got “harder” adult-rated versions set to follow, but he’s very proud of both.
He told SFX magazine: “I’m super-proud of the PG-13 version. I don’t feel like it’s a lesser version.
“That said, just for my personal aesthetic, the harder R-rated version of the movie, the pokier version, it’s a little bit more insane, and that maybe doesn’t have as broad appeal. For me, it’s funner.
“But I really am super-proud of what we did with the PG-13 version.”
Although Zack thinks the films are “fun” for kids to watch, he didn’t have a young audience in mind when working on the project.
He said: “Is ‘Lord of the Rings’ for kids?
“Kids can enjoy it and it’s definitely fun for kids to watch, but it’s not necessarily geared towards kids.
“Even in the PG-13 incarnation of this film, it’s much more adult fantasy, it has an adult aesthetic.
“It was born out of Heavy Metal [sci-fi magazine] in a lot of ways, it’s aesthetic origins.
“It differs in a lot of ways from the other sci-fi stuff that’s out there.”

Alison Hammond falls asleep before midnight on New Year’s Eve

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond goes to bed before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The 48-year-old TV star doesn’t do any wild partying on 31 December and is happy to just wish people a Happy New Year whenever she gets up on 1 January.
In an interview with Closer magazine, she said: “I’ve missed midnight on New Year’s Eve for the last three years.
“I fall asleep at 10 o’clock and then in the morning, I say, ‘Happy New Year!'”
Despite proving a hit with viewers after joining ‘The Great British Bake Off’ alongside Noel Fielding this year, Alison still feels like “chopped liver” compared to judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
She explained: “It’s all about Prue and Paul. You could literally dance naked and no one would take any notice of you!
“That’s all anyone cares about – even when the celebrities come into the tent.
“We’re chopped liver compared to Prue and Paul. They are the stars. We know that and we’re humble enough to deal with it.”
The ‘This Morning’ star recently admitted she worries about her presenting skills.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “There are some times I think I’m going though the menopause because I’ll be sitting there and I’ve no idea what this piece is.”
Alison – who first came to the public’s attention when she appeared on ‘Big Brother 3’ in 2002 – is amazed by her career success.
She said: “I pinch myself hosting ‘This Morning’ and now this. I’m pinching myself all the time.
“My mum absolutely loved ‘Bake Off’. I can bake but I’m like Jamie Oliver – I chuck it all in and hope it works.”
But despite her success, Alison insisted she has no plans to move away from Birmingham to be based in London full time.
She said: “I put my house on sale and people were saying I’m moving to London but anyone who knows me knows Alison ain’t going anywhere.
“I love Birmingham. I don’t know what it is about the Brummies but I find the people are really warm.”

Holly Willoughby confirmed as co-host of Dancing On Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby will return to ITV as the host of ‘Dancing On Ice’.
The 42-year-old presenter quit her job as the main presenter of ‘This Morning’ back in October following her discovery of an alleged plot to kidnap her and following months of upheaval in the wake of her long-time co-anchor Phillip Schofield stepping away from the daytime show after more than 20 years after admitting he lied to bosses about an affair with a younger male colleague.
Speculation had been rife that Holly was not going to return to ‘Dancing On Ice’ for the 2024 series, but ITV have now confirmed to the Daily Mirror newspaper that she will host the figure skating show along with Stephen Mulhern, who is replacing Schofield, who has also departed that programme.
Holly and Stephen, 46, first worked together on CITV show ‘Ministry of Mayhem’, the series on which she met her future husband, producer Dan Baldwin.
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, said: “Holly and Stephen are two of our best loved presenters, so reuniting them 20 years after they first appeared on screen together to host ‘Dancing on Ice’ marks the start of an exciting year for the show. Celebrating 20 years since they first worked together on ‘Ministry of Mayhem’, Willoughby and Mulhern will preside over the action on the high octane skating show as this year’s celebrities compete to become champion of the ice. Judges Torvill and Dean, Ashley Banjo and Oti Mabuse are back on the panel.”.
Holly has rarely been seen since she quit ‘This Morning’ three months ago.
She announced her departure on her Instagram account admitting she had decided to say the “difficult goodbye” for herself and her family, which includes husband Dan and their children, Harry, Belle and Chester.
Her statement read: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to ‘This Morning’.
“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much. This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together. Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.
“Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.”
Holly referenced former presenters, husband and wife duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, who insisted the show belongs to the viewers rather than the stars who inhabit the sofa.
She added: “Richard and Judy said ‘we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers’.
“It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go. Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family.
“I will miss you all so much.”

A ray of sunshine! BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood marries partner Steve

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Kirkwood has married her partner Steve.
The BBC weather presenter, 61, and her ray of sunshine tied the knot in Buckinghamshire on Wednesday (27.12.23).
She told ‘BBC Breakfast’: “It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding. We are both so incredibly happy.”
In May 2022, Carol revealed live on ‘BBC Breakfast’ that she and Steve had got engaged.
The star was reporting from the Chelsea Flower Show at the time when her co-host Sally Nugent jokingly voiced some “concern” for her pal after spotting a ring on her engagement finger.
She said: “I’m a little bit concerned about you this morning. I don’t know how you’re managing to stand up with that giant rock on your left hand, Carol!”
Peering down at her hand, Carol replied: “Oh, that one? Thank you Sal! It is rather nice, I got engaged.”
Sally responded to the happy news by offering a “congratulations” on behalf of the entire team, before getting permission to “confirm to the nation”.
She said: “Congratulations from all of us! It’s the happiest news, we are so, so delighted. Congratulations.
“Can we confirm to the nation what’s happened?”
Carol – while giggling – agreed and called it “lovely news”.
She said: “Yes! I think you just have, Sal. Yes, I got engaged. We got engaged when we were on holiday. So it’s lovely news and we’re both thrilled, so thank you!”
‘BBC Breakfast’ co-host Jon Kay added: “We’re all thrilled, we’re all so chuffed for you Carol, on behalf of all the team here and everybody watching, I’m sure. Absolutely delighted.
“Are you looking for a spot for the marquee while you’re at Chelsea, yeah?”
Carol replied: “I’m taking note of all the flowers, Jon. But no, there’s no plans in fruit yet.”
The star hasn’t revealed Steve’s last name, but recently told Prima Magazine he was “always making me laugh”, and she described him as “extremely handsome”.

Coronation Street legend Bill Roache ‘renews contract again’ after playing Ken Barlow since 1960

OHMYGOSSIP — Bill Roache has penned a new one-year deal to remain on ‘Coronation Street’.
The 91-year-old actor – who has played Ken Barlow in the ITV1 soap since it was first broadcast on 9 December 1960 – has signed up for a 64th year on the famous cobbles.
It comes as Chris Gascoyne, who played Ken’s son Peter Barlow, departed ‘Corrie’ this week after 23 years on the show, and Alex Bain, who plays Ken’s grandson Simon Barlow, is also expected to leave the programme.
But an insider told The Sun newspaper: “There are big plans for the Barlows over the next 12 months.”
Last year, Bill admitted he wants to still be working in Weatherfield when he is 100 years old.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Someone said to me, ‘Look, Bill, you’re in the Guinness Book of Records, you’ve got the MBE, you’ve been in Coronation Street for over 60 years, what else is there?
“I said to him, ‘I would like to be the first centenarian who is still cast in an ongoing drama’.
“That’s my aim, to be 100 and still working on Coronation Street.
“While they want me and while I can do it I’ll continue to do it.”
In December 2022, Bill put pen to paper on a new deal to stay on ‘Corrie’, which was worth a reported £250,000.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper at the time: “Ken Barlow has been at the heart of Coronation Street since it started 62 years ago and that’s not changing any time soon.
“And as we’ve seen with his recent love triangle storyline, he’s no plans to slow down.”
The news came just days after Bill – who holds the world record for the longest-serving actor in a continuous role – received an OBE from King Charles for services to acting, and revealed the pair shared a joke about just how long he has been in the soap.
Bill said: “Charles was lovely – very friendly. He said, ‘Not still working are you?’ I said, ‘Yes, I just had two ex-girlfriends on the show’. He said, ‘Oh, that must have been work’, and I said, ‘May I wish you a long and joyful reign, sir?’ And he said, ‘Thank you, that will be a lot of work, too.’ ”

Gary Oldman condemns ‘mediocre’ Harry Potter performance

OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Oldman thinks his performance in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies was “mediocre”.
The 65-year-old actor joined the wizard franchise for the third film playing Harry’s godfather Sirius Black in 2004’s ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’ and reprising the role in three more movies, but Oldman has now admitted he’s not proud of his portrayal of the character.
During an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Oldman explained: “I think my work is mediocre in it.”
Oldman said he wishes he’d taken the time to read J. K. Rowling’s books on which the films were based like his late co-star Alan Rickman – who played Professor Severus Snape – it would have changed the way he portrayed Sirius Black.
He added: “Maybe if I had read the books like Alan, if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently.”
Oldman went on to joke his character was killed off too early, adding: “We [the cast] were all taking bets [on which character would die], you know, it’s Hagrid, and I was there going, no, no, no, maybe it’s Ron. And then you kind of open the script and you go, it’s me. I’m out of here.”
During the podcast, the actor insisted he’s often overly-critical of his own work but he thinks that’s a good thing.
He explained: “I’ll tell you what it is. It’s like anything, I think if I sat and watched myself in something and said, ‘My God, I’m amazing,’ that would be a very sad day, because you want to make the next thing better …
“It’s so subjective. It’s such a personal thing that you’re looking at that other people are not seeing … It’s not to disrespect someone who says to me, ‘Oh, I really love you in that movie,’ and I’m thinking, ‘I’m terrible in that movie. What are they talking about?’ It’s not that. It’s [that] they’re seeing something else.”

Vanessa Kirby ‘repressed’ herself for Napoleon

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Kirby had to “pull back [her] own personality” while filming ‘Napoleon’.
The 35-year-old actress stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix as the titular emperor’s wife Josephine and she felt she needed to “repress” herself in order to accurately portray the troubled empress, who was ousted from her marriage after being unable to bear children.
Vanessa told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “I felt like I had to bring less of myself and actually pull back my own personality a lot.
“Josephine was so enigmatic and unusual.
“She had to repress her feelings in order to survive, so that is how I approached playing her.”
Vanessa particularly enjoyed working with Joaquin.
She said: “I love him and it was so magic to play the special kind of intimacy and intensity between these two historical figures.
“I had a really good time.
“Even though it was a really dysfunctional relationship in many ways, they had this chemistry that was very potent.”
And the blonde beauty was thankful that the “playfulness” shared between the characters was echoed on set, making it easier when filming “an intense and brutal time”.
Vanessa added: “It was hard but we found we had to laugh sometimes between takes to get through that.
“We had to bring some lightness ot it because of the intensity of this world and the fact that Josephine wasn’t able to have a child.
“They loved one another as outsiders and they had this strange magnetism through all of their lives, even though they were living in the most extreme of times.
“We could never get hold of what it was about them exactly, but we had so much fun trying to figure it out.”

Dianne Buswell is not ready to have kids with Joe Sugg

OHMYGOSSIP — Dianne Buswell is not ready to start a family with Joe Sugg.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional has been romancing the YouTuber since they were paired up on the 2018 series of the celebrity dance contest and though the 34-year-old beauty thinks they will “definitely” have a baby together one day, she isn’t sure when that will be.
During an interview with Closer magazine, she said: “I think definitely for sure at one point we’ll have children.
“It’s something we’d both love, but we don’t know when just yet. We always say our kids are going to watch YouTube videos of us dancing one day, and that’s so cool!”
Dianne thinks it is “crazy” she found love through the show and she and Joe often wonder what their lives would have been like without it.
She said: “Joe and I will often sit there, thinking it’s crazy that it’s been five years since we’ve been together, we’re still amazed it all came from Strictly.
“We do wonder whether we’d actually have met if he hadn’t been on the show, I wouldn’t have got to know him!
“We still love to dance together. Joe loves ballroom and he’s always trying to do it with me in the kitchen. We’re going to have Argentine Tango lessons soon!”
Dianne made the final of this year’s ‘Strictly’ with Bobby Brazier and while they didn’t lift the glitterball trophy, she thinks the ‘EastEnders’ actor is destined for big things.
She said: “Bobby is so interesting – he may only be 20 years old, but he is such an inspiring person.
“He’s got a zest for life, a great head on his shoulders, yet is so humble. His younger brother Freddie is just as sweet, I’m like their older sister.
“Their dad, Jeff, really looked after me. Bobby would come in with containers full of delicious food and Jeff would’ve prepped two plates, forks, napkins – I swear I thought there’d be candles next!”

Hollywood star Alan Ford joins EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Hollywood actor Alan Ford has joined the cast of ‘EastEnders’.
The ‘Snatch’ star will head to Walford in the new year to portray Billy Mitchell’s estranged dad Stevie Mitchell.
Alan said: “I feel highly delighted to be playing a character close to my own age in this extremely popular television drama series.”
Stevie will rock up in Walford as the Mitchell family prepare to say goodbye to their Aunt Sal, who was played by Anna Karen, who passed away in February 2022 aged 85.
Billy – who is played by Perry Fenwick – and Stevie last saw each other off-screen 25 years ago.
Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders’ Executive Producer added: “It’s an honour to welcome the immensely talented Alan Ford to the cast of ‘EastEnders’ as he takes on the role of Stevie Mitchell.
“Whilst Billy has been a stalwart in the show for over 25 years, viewers know very little about his complicated childhood and the events that led him to grow up in care.
“Alan arrives in Walford as the Mitchell family prepare to say goodbye to their beloved Aunt Sal but it soon becomes apparent that he is not welcome in the family fold.”
Billy grew up in care from the age of 10, after Stevie took sole custody of his brother Charlie.
Alan is best known for his roles in Guy Ritchie movies ‘Snatch’ – in which he portrayed “Brick Top” Pulford – and ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’.
The star is also no stranger to the small screen, appearing in ‘The Bill’ eight times as eight different characters.
Alan has also starred in ‘Birds of a Father’, ‘Grange Hill’, ‘The Darling Buds of May’, ‘Doctors’, and ‘Casualty’.

Whoopi Goldberg’s cameo in The Color Purple was top secret

OHMYGOSSIP — Whoopi Goldberg’s cameo appearance in the new musical version of ‘The Color Purple’ was kept top secret until the film’s release.
The 68-year-old actress made her big screen debut in the original 1985 movie – based on the novel by Alice Walker – and won an Oscar nomination for Best Actress and it’s now been revealed she returned to make an appearance in Blitz Bazawule’s new musical take on the story, but the director went to great lengths to keep the cameo quiet.
He told Variety: “We had to be stealthy about her involvement from the beginning. Only key crew were aware that Whoopi was playing the role.
“We also never mentioned her in any press and she remained uncredited for the role.”
The actress played the lead role of Celie in the first film, and the character is played by Fantasia Barrino and Phylicia Pearl Mpasi in the new version with Whoopi returning to play a midwife who helps Celie when she gives birth and Blitz says the role was perfect for the returning castmember.
He added: “I always knew I wanted a connection between the original cast of ‘The Color Purple’ and the new cast. The obvious person was Whoopi because she’s synonymous with the title.
“We settled on the midwife because of its symbolic meeting.”
Screenwriter Marcus Gardley also explained the meaning of Whoopi’s role to the Los Angeles Times, saying: “She’s the one to not only encourage her during the birth, but it’s like she herself gave birth to the role and now we see her passing it down.
“It’s one of the most beautiful scenes because you see [Goldberg] looking upon [Mpasi] with pride and telling her, ‘You can do it’.”
Blitz went on to tell Variety about asking Whoopi to take on the part, admitting he was racked with nerves as he made the phone call. He said: “It was probably one of the most nervous calls ever.
“She was warm from the start and then she ended by saying, ‘Blitz, the only way I’m not going to be there is if I get hit by a bus.’ I broke out laughing. It was the best phone call ever.”

Patrick Dempsey works for fulfilment

OHMYGOSSIP — Patrick Dempsey would rather work for fulfilment than a hefty pay cheque.
The ‘Ferrari’ actor is happier to take on roles in independent films and work with the directors whose work he admires than accept a part in a major Hollywood blockbuster, even though he knows that would pay more.
Asked his acting goals, he told Radio Times magazine: “For me right now, it’s really to work with filmmakers in the category of Michael Mann and do independent films like [‘Ferrari’].
“That means you have to be very careful financially.
“But the role size doesn’t matter for me, it’s about the quality of the experience.
“Anytime you go after something for the money, it’s always a disaster.
“Yeah you get to buy more and pay more taxes, but you’re not happy. You know?
“That’s something that’s important to learn. And you realise the older you get and the more success you have, the less you need.”
Patrick recently praised ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ – on which he played neurosurgeon Derek ‘McDreamy’ Shepherd on the medical drama from 2005 to 2015, before returning five years later for the 17th season – for inspiring so many people to pursue a medical career.
He told ‘Good Morning America’: “[‘Grey’s Anatomy’] has really inspired so many people to go into the medical profession and has given me the platform to be able to do the Ferrari movie and to be able to have [the People’s 2023 Sexiest Man Alive title].
“I think that’s been the biggest gift coming out of that show, is to be able to do something positive and give back.”
