Lee Daniels plans musical biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Daniels is working on a film about his life.
The ‘Empire’ creator thinks his story is “interesting” and will play out well on screen, especially because he is planning for the production to be a musical.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “My publicist will kill me, but I’m in talks about doing a musical film about my life. I’ve had a pretty interesting life. I’ve come from the projects. I’ve been homeless. It’ll have original music and sort of be like Fellini’s ‘8 1/2’ or ‘All That Jazz’.”
But his own biopic isn’t the only musical Lee is planning.
The ‘Butler’ director has been working on new TV show ‘Star’ with Queen Latifah, and having been influenced by ‘Paris Is Burning’ – which examined drag ball culture – for the series, he is now keen to make a musical based on the 1990 documentary film.
He said: “We’re shooting the second episode [of ‘Star’]. I just left a rehearsal for a vogue number.
“That performance that Teyana Taylor did at the MTV Video Music Awards? Well, we’re going to get down in the dirt with mine.
“You’ll see the girls with the gay boys voguing in a way [TV audiences] have yet to see. It will be very much like ‘Paris Is Burning’, which influenced me growing up. I told Queen Latifah that we should remake ‘Paris Is Burning’ as a musical.”
The 56-year-old producer-and-director has seen ‘Empire’ move into a third season but he admitted he was surprised by his success and left struggling during the first series as he and his team weren’t prepared for it to do well beyond a pilot episode.
He admitted: “We were not prepared for the hit. I was set to do the Richard Pryor biopic, and I didn’t think the pilot was going to get picked up.
“So then we had to scramble for story for 12 episodes. Then we were shocked when the ratings kept climbing and climbing. And then they picked us up for 18 episodes.
“You try writing 18 episodes of story and music. That s**t’s crazy! It was a tsunami hitting me.”

Mary Berry thinks Great British Bake Off will still be success

OHMYGOSSIP — Mary Berry thinks the ‘Great British Bake Off’ will still be a “success” when it moves across to Channel 4 later this year.
The 81-year-old baking star turned her back on the show, which she has judged on for six years, out of “loyalty” to the BBC after it was announced the rival broadcaster had snatched the rights to the series earlier this month.
But, although she no longer wants to be a part of the programme, she’s convinced her former co-judge Paul Hollywood – who has agreed to stay with the show when it moves to Channel 4 – will continue to make it a huge hit.
Speaking at the National Reality Television Awards in London on Thursday (29.09.16), she said: “It’s going to be different but I’m sure Paul will carry it on successfully.”
Mary’s exit came as a huge shock to fans because it came just days after hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins decided to walk away from the series, but she’s adamant she’ll never forget the “marvellous time” she had on the show.
She explained: “Mel and Sue are brilliant and we had a marvellous time on the programme and that’s how it will remain. You’ll never hear people swear. It’s a family programme. Mum, gran, everyone enjoys it and they all get down to baking afterwards. I’m proud of everyone. It gets 14 million [viewers] – more than the football!”
The future of the ‘GBBO’ has been hanging in the balance since it was revealed Channel 4 had bought the rights to the show for an estimated £75 million last week.
Channel 4 reportedly waded in with the three-year mega money deal after they found out negotiations between the BBC and Love Productions – the makers of the programme – had broken down.

Richard Hawley lives with Connor McIntyre

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Hawley lives with his ‘Coronation Street’ co-star Connor McIntyre.
The 61-year-old actor – who portrays factory boss Johnny Connor in the long-running soap – is “really good mates” with his co-star, who plays bad boy builder Pat Phelan, and has temporarily moved in with him in Manchester so he’s closer to set when he’s asked to shoot his scenes.
He explained: “I live with Connor McIntyre when I’m up here, so we do a lot together. We’re very much the odd couple! He’s a painter and an artist as well as an actor, so we do the odd gallery together, go watch operas – and have quite a cultured time. It completely baffles people when they see us out together but we’re really good mates.”
And, although he’s on set to work, Richard and his co-stars have a great time shooting scenes in the knicker factory, which his alter ego owns.
He said: “The factory is full of funny moments – because it’s full of comedians, generally speaking. Someones one of the crew will dangle a pair of knickers off the lighting man’s trousers. Yeah, there’s usually somebody with a bra or a pair of pants hanging off them.”
Richard’s character has only just taken control of the factory but he’s hoping Dolly Rose Campbell – who plays loud mouth Gemma Winter – will become an employee soon because he thinks she’s the “perfect fit.”
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, he said: “I love Dolly Rose Campbell, who plays Gemma. I think she’d fit in brilliantly. The other person is Liam [Bairstow, who plays Alex Warner] who’s lovely. I haven’t done much with him yet but he has a fantastic presence.”

Mark Wahlberg needs a good team around him

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Wahlberg insists he’s only as good as the people around him.
The 45-year-old actor has been winning rave reviews for new film ‘Deepwater Horizon’ and there has been talk of an Oscar nomination, but he credits the team he works with for helping him to shine.
He revealed: “Well, I come from the real world and you’re only as good as the people around you. That’s always been my philosophy. I don’t know if it’s because of my background in sports, but I want the whole team to be good.”
He also says that he always puts the movie before any individual ambition.
He told the Guardian newspaper: “I just do my thing. I’m thinking about the big picture, not my individual experience as an actor. I’ve seen actors who are like: ‘Oh God, this is my moment,’ and I don’t think it services the movie. You have to put the movie first.”
Mark – who has four children with wife Rhea Durham – says it’s important for him to remain grounded as he lives a very luxurious lifestyle.
He said: “Look, I live in a big house, I drive a fancy car. But I still feel like I’m gonna end up where I came from and as long as I can go there with my head held high and I’m welcomed back with open arms, then I’m OK.”
Speaking about his friends and whether they’re jealous of him, he added: “I think, my real friends are certainly happy for the success I’ve had. But I try to spread and share as much as possible.”

Johnny Depp to star in Murder on the Orient Express reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Depp is to star in the ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ remake – his first film role since his divorce from Amber Heard.
The 53-year-old actor hasn’t had the easiest time over the past few months as he’s been locked in a bitter legal battle with his now-ex-wife, but it seems things could now be on the up as he’s just been cast as Ratchett in the forthcoming revamped picture.
Depp jumped onboard the project after holding discussions with director Kenneth Branagh – who will also star as Detective Hercule Poirot – and reading the script penned by Michael Green that he’s adapted from Agatha Christie’s novel.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Daisy Ridley have also been added to the stellar cast and will portray Mrs. Hubbard and Mary Debenham.
Dame Judi Dench has been signed to the role of Princess Dragomiroff, while Lucy Boynton is Countess Andrenyi.
Branagh has almost picked out his entire ensemble but there are still a few major roles left to cast before filming kicks off.
Christie’s novel, which was published in 1934, follows the brutal murder onboard the famous train as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot attempts to solve the mind-boggling case.
Branagh told Deadline: “Christie’s ‘Murder…’ is mysterious, compelling and unsettling.
“I’m honoured to have this fantastic group of actors bring these dark materials to life for a new audience.”
James Prichard and Hilary Strong, both of Agatha Christie Ltd., will executive produce, while Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, Mark Gordon and Branagh will produce the film.
‘Murder on the Orient Express’, which was originally made into a film in 1974, will begin shooting in November in London.

Alan Carr engaged

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr is engaged.
The chat show host’s actor boyfriend Paul Drayton proposed in Indonesia last week during a romantic getaway and Alan wants his pal Adele to perform at the wedding.
He told The Sun: “The engagement only happened next week so I don’t know exactly what we’ll do.
“But a big old wedding and we’ll get Adele singing ‘Someone Like You’.”
Alan also shared details of the proposal, admitting that it didn’t exactly go smoothly but he couldn’t be happier.
Explaining that he thought he had pulled out a filling after he bit into the ring, which was hidden in his dessert, Alan said: “The man on the organ starts singing ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’
“Then the chef, all the staff came out and the manager and sang ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight?’ but they didn’t know the next lyric, so they just sang, ‘Can you feel the love tonight? Can you feel the love tonight?’
“So it was my idea of hell, but of course I said yes.”
Meanwhile, Alan reveals in his new book ‘ALANATOMY’, which is being serialised in The Sun, that Paul is an alcoholic so the pair will be having a booze-free wedding.
He said: “I want to be there for him because he’s the best thing that’s happened to me and I’ve got to support him and everything.”

Emmerdale's Holly Barton dead from drug overdose

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’s Holly Barton has been killed off.
In a shocking episode on Thursday (29.09.16), the troubled Holly – who has battled drug addiction – passed away following an overdose and her lifeless body was found by her devastated mother Moira and brother Adam.
The death came as a surprise to viewers as although it was recently revealed that Sophie Powles, who played Holly, had quit the show, details of her exit had not been disclosed.
Sophie, 27, only returned to the show in March but quit for a second time in August.
A source previously said: “Sophie has enjoyed returning as Holly but she never saw coming back as a full-time thing. So she’s back off into the real world again.
“She was looking at other roles after she was finished travelling, but Emmerdale asked her back and it seemed silly to turn it down, so she returned.
She’s already filmed her final scenes which are being kept under wraps. Her leaving the show is seen as one of the big storylines of the next few months.
“She’s a popular cast member and will be missed by everyone on set.”
Sophie first quit the show in 2012 in order to go travelling with her boyfriend Mark Walters.
She returned to the soap in March and revealed she was thrilled when show bosses approached her about reprising the role of drug-addict Holly, rather than recasting.
She said: “I think it would have been weird, you know, ‘What’s she doing in my house?’
“But luckily that didn’t happen, and I’m really grateful for this opportunity and to be working with some of my best friends again, cast and crew. It’s just the best place.”
Holly had been secretly dating local businessman Jai Sharma and he has yet to discover her death.

The ‘Our Girl’ actress and the retired soccer star are among those who will take part in the one-off celebrity special of the Channel 4 game show.
It has been 21 years since the show last aired on TV screens and Radio DJ Sara Cox, Paralympics champion Jonnie Peacock and comedian Josh Widdicombe will all take part in the special episode, which will be hosted by Stephen Merchant and air in the run up to Stand Up To Cancer.
The original ‘Crystal Maze’ series was presented first by Richard O’Brien and then Ed Tudor-Pole and aired for six seasons between 1990 and 1995.
Speaking previously, Stephen said of his new gig: “We wanted something extra special for the Stand Up To Cancer campaign this year, so we’re delighted ‘Crystal Maze’ will be returning for a celebrity one-off.

“Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole leave big shoes to fill, but I have size 14 feet, so I’ll do my best.”
Meanwhile, although it’s yet to hit screens, bosses are reportedly keen to make a new series of the high-energy contest, which originally ran between 1990 and 1995, if it proves a success.
A source said recently: “Channel 4 are hoping to tap into that nostalgia and believe viewers will jump at the chance to finally take on the show’s adventurous challenges themselves.”
At the height of its popularity the series drew in up to six million viewers per episode, making it the most popular show on Channel 4 at the time.
The programme famously featured four zones, Aztec, Industrial – which was later replaced by Ocean – Futuristic and Medieval, where the contestants took part in a series of challenges and games in order to win crystals, each of which gave them five seconds in the final crystal dome.
In the finale, the teams had to grab 100 gold tokens which blew around the dome, but lost one for every silver they also had.
Just 18 out of the 83 teams who took part in the show over the years managed to win.

Craig Revel Horwood is open to dating women

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood would date a woman.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge – who split from his partner Damon Scott after three years together in May this year – has admitted he feels ready for a relationship again even with a member of the opposite sex.
When asked during an appearance on ‘Loose Women’ on Thursday (29.06.16) if he would consider being heterosexual, the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ host said: “I’m not going to put myself out of any sort of department!”
But when it was suggested he should hook up with the chat shows panellist and fellow singleton Janet Street Porter, he quipped: “We’d make a fantastic couple.
“Imagine the home life. I’d be doing all the vacuuming and cooking.”
The acid-tongued dance critique has admitted he is desperate to find someone who is “genuine” and “honest” after his former partner accused the 51-year-old of battling with a drinking problem.
Craig said: “[I’d like someone] that doesn’t sell stories, kiss and tells and all that sort of stuff. There’s nothing you can do about it.
“There’s a side to everybody’s story and everyone’s broken relationship but I tend to not go and spout them all off.”
Meanwhile, Craig revealed he thinks the former Eternal band member, Louise Redknapp, could win the coveted Glitterball trophy.
He said: “The front-runners are Louise Redknapp – taking one look at her I thought she was safe and confident. Danny Mac is spectacular, but has he blown it too early? The people get those results in week one generally plain out and remain the same.
“Had he had slipped over and broken his leg maybe he would have got a few more votes.”
The professional ballroom dancer also thinks Ed Balls is a hot contender.
He added: “He [Ed] has the gift of the gab he is a politician, he is able to drum up the support of the public, I mean look at Ann Widdecombe, she couldn’t dance a step darling until week 11. I ended up in panto with her. I danced the charleston with her 42 times, I was in traction for five months, it was a wonderful relationship.”

Stephanie Davis will get a tattoo as a tribute to her baby boy

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Davis is set to get a tattoo as a tribute to her baby.
The 23-year-old actress – who is expecting her first child with her former boyfriend Jeremy McDonnell – has admitted she will undergo a “mummy make-over” when her son is born, which will see her get her “last” inking of either her child’s name or a “symbol of strength” to honour him.
Speaking in her column with OK! magazine about her forthcoming plans when she gives birth, the brunette beauty – who embarked on a relationship with the Irish model during this year’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ – said: “I’ve also already planned to get a tattoo for him.
“It will either be his name or a symbol of strength somewhere. But that will be my last tattoo.”
And the former ‘Hollyoaks’ star has revealed she will reduce her beauty treatments and ditch her long talons in a bid to be “practical” and capable of doing motherly duties.
She explained: “Before the baby gets here I’m going to remove my super long nails and just have them painted nicely so they’re nice and practical for everything I need to do as a mum.
“I’ll probably leave my hair the same as it’s close to my natural colour anyway. For me, my baby will become my world so I won’t be too fussed about staying on top of my beauty game.”
And Stephanie has admitted she doesn’t plan to be “too strict” on her first child because she doesn’t want him to “rebel”, but she wants him to have respect for women.
She said: “For me though, I’m not going to be too strict as I don’t want him to rebel. I want him to learn from his own mistakes and I’ll be quite easy going. I’ll be bringing him up so I want him to respect women.
“I can only try my best anyway, with all first-time mums you just have to learn as you go and hope that I do a great job. I just know we will be best mates and I can be the cool mum!”

Sam Mendes to produce Beautiful Ruins adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Mendes’ first post-James Bond project is a producer role on ‘Beautiful Ruins’.
The 51-year-old filmmaker is finished with 007 following the release of his second movie in the franchise ‘Spectre’ and he is now taking on the adaptation of the best-selling 2012 novel of the same name by Jess Walter which is set in Italy during the making of Hollywood classic ‘Cleopatra’.
‘Beautiful Ruins’ is based on a fictional Hollywood actress who travels to Italy in 1962 and falls in love with a hotelier and her story intertwines with the real-life love affair that ensued between Elizabeth Taylor (Cleopatra) and Richard Burton (Mark Anthony) on the set of the epic.
It’s understood Mendes has secured the rights to feature original footage from the classic movie.
‘Transparent’ scriptwriters Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue have taken over writing duties from Todd Field, who signed on to direct the project in 2013 but has since left.
The film is a far cry from the spy franchise Mendes helmed over the past five years having directed ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’ with Daniel Craig as Bond.
Mendes’ also has ‘James and The Giant Peach’ lined up and recently signed on to direct and produce ‘The Voyeur’s Motel’.
When he announced his departure from James Bond in May, the British filmmaker admitted loved the franchise but felt he had taken it as far as he could.
He said: “It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it. But I think it’s time for somebody else. I’m a storyteller. And at the end of the day, I want to make stories with new characters.”
Bond producer Barbara Broccoli is on the hunt to replace Mendes and the director thinks she’ll surprise the world when she makes her decision.
He said: “I can guarantee whatever happens with it, it will not be what you expect. That’s what she [producer Barbara Broccoli] has been brilliant at, and that’s how it’ll survive.”

The ‘Star Trek and Beyond’ director has been drafted in by the famed toy company and production studios, who’ve teamed up to make a movie about the popular kids toy car line.
A writer is yet to be assigned to the project and as far as anyone knows, a plot for the movie has not been decided, however, Mattel – the multinational toy manufacturer founded in 1945 – have given the green light to 15 film adaptations about their products with most of those centred on their Barbie franchise.
Hot Wheels cars were first released in 1968 and he line has spawned related video games.
Justin – who made the “Fast and Furious” franchise into a worldwide phenomenon is signed on to direct a ‘Warrior’ TV series inspired by Bruce Lee and a possible ‘Space Jam’ sequel.
But first the 44-year-old director will give his full attention to his big screen adaptation of the Manga comic book story ‘Lone Wolf and Cub’ set in his native Japan and hopes to have an all-Asian cast
Lin said: “For the last year and a half I’ve been on this ‘Star Trek’ detour, the greatest detour of my career. But I’m excited because ‘Lone Wolf and Cub’ is one of many projects that I can’t wait to go back and revisit in the next two weeks when we’re done with all the press.”
He added: “Five-to-10 years ago, they would have wanted Keanu Reeves to play the dad … I think the cool thing about it is that filmmaking has gone global. There’s many ways to make a movie and I think Hollywood has to evolve.”

Eva Green exasperated by femme fatale tag

OHMYGOSSIP — Eva Green gets “sad” when she’s typecast as a “femme fatale”.
The 36-year-old French actress plays the titular role of Miss Peregrine in Tim Burton’s new fantasy film ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’.
She portrays a magical, pipe smoking headmistress who can turn herself into a peregrine falcon.
Green was sold on the role when director Burton described the character as “Scary Poppins” and Green was very appreciative to take on a part that was so different from her usual alter egos like Bond girl Vesper Lynd from ‘Casino Royale’ or seductress Ava Lord in ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper about the movie, she said: “I love playing someone like this, who isn’t a love interest. I often get asked if I get worried about being a typecast as a femme fatale. But I have played so many other things! It makes me sad. Is that how people see me, as a dark kind of icy image? I hope not. I am not a Goth. I am a big geek!’
Green’s film credits include Bernardo Bertolucci’s ‘The Dreamers’, ‘The Golden Compass’, Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’ and horror TV series ‘Penny Dreadful’.
Although her career is flourishing, Green has not always been so confident.
She explained: “I was very, very shy as a child, so I felt a bit withdrawn and people always said I was strange. They still say that today. I’ve started thinking maybe I am. Because I am not confident to go to parties and do all that ‘lah-lah-lah, ha-ha-ha’, I have to be a bit violent with myself to do things like that. Of course this movie, Miss Peregrine, pushes you to celebrate your individuality and embrace it, but that can be difficult.”
