Carol Vorderman opens up about depression battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Vorderman says post-menopause depression left her unable to cope.
The 55-year-old TV presenter compared her depression to her devastation at the death of ‘Countdown’ co-host Richard Whiteley in 2005 and admitted that if it wasn’t for her children, Cameron, 19, and Katie, 24, she may have considered suicide.
She told The Sun: “Had I been in different circumstances, I could understand why people take their lives – because you can’t think of a way out.
“I couldn’t see the point of going on sometimes. It was a horrible place to be. I’ve been struck by grief, and experienced bad times. But this was different.
“We’ve all had crap times. I’ve had a divorce, various things go wrong, my mum’s had cancer.
“When Richard died I was struck by grief, but they were different because there was a reason for feeling low
“This time there was no reason. Nothing terrible had happened. And I was not just low, I was properly depressed. Really deeply depressed.”
However, after getting treatment, ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star Carol now feels better than ever and couldn’t be happier.
She said: “I’ve never had a moment, not a second since. Isn’t it crazy? It’s just a simple chemical imbalance, and that’s all it was.
“That’s a natural thing just because of ageing. Think how many people suffer just because of that?”

Paul Hollywood doubles salary with Channel 4 move

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Hollywood has doubled his salary by moving to Channel 4.
The TV star decided to make the move with ‘The Great British Bake Off’ when Channel 4 poached it from the BBC and, despite being blasted for his disloyalty, Paul believes he made the right decision.
He told The Times Magazine: “Would you work across the road? If you could double your wages, by going across the road to a rival, would you?
“I’d be happy for the BBC to release the figure to say how much I was paid, but I can’t do that.
“Do I deserve more money than I was on? I think everybody needs to get more money. Inflation has gone up. If I get more money, that’s great news. That’s great news.
“I don’t work for the BBC. I work for a production company that works for the BBC. Love Productions made Bake Off what it is today. They made that programme.”
Paul also says co-star Mary Berry’s decision to remain with the BBC made people label him the villain.
“Mary [Berry] will never be the villain. I will always be a villain. I was sort of expecting it. But when it hit me, it was like an express train. I haven’t murdered anyone. But I think the Yorkshire Ripper got less press than I did.”
And Paul admitted he was devastated when hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins snubbed a move to Channel 4.
He said: “It was like my parents had split up. It broke me in half. I love my job. I was gutted. I was upset that the girls had split and weren’t going to be with us anymore.”

Amy Schumer to star in Barbie movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Schumer is set to star in the new Barbie movie.
The 35-year-old actress’ character will be expelled from Barbieland for failing to live up to the perfection expected of its residents and will set off on a journey of self-discovery.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the live-action movie will be a “contemporary spin on beauty, feminism, and identity”.
The movie does not have a director yet but Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, and Amy Pascal will produce the film from a script written by Hilary Winston.
However, Amy and her sister, ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ producer Kim Caramele, are expected to rewrite the script.
Meanwhile, Amy recently revealed was told to lose weight before starring in ‘Trainwreck’ to avoid “hurting people’s eyes”.
She said: “The only change was that it was explained to me before I did that movie [‘Trainwreck’] that if you weigh over 140 pounds as a woman in Hollywood, if you’re on the screen it will hurt people’s eyes … I didn’t know that so I lost some weight to do that but never again.”
Meanwhile, Amy previously revealed she was told at her first audition that she should either lose weight or put on a lot of weight so she could be cast in the role of the “fat friend”.
She said: “At my first audition when I was 21, they were like, ‘You should either lose weight or gain a bunch of weight, like be the fat friend or the romantic lead.’ Can you believe they said this? But I feel like more than other people saying it, it’s a self-inflicted thing. We put pressure on ourselves and hold ourselves to this unrealistic standard …
“I want to throw my hands in the air after reading a mean Twitter comment and say, ‘Alright! You got it. You figured me out. I’m not pretty. I’m not thin. I do not deserve to use my voice … All my self-worth is based on what you can see. But then I think f*** that.”

Olly Murs wasn't allowed to be himself on The X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs claims he and Caroline Flack weren’t allowed to be themselves on ‘The X Factor’.
The 32-year-old singer and his 37-year-old pal were widely criticised for their hosting on the show last year but he insists it wasn’t entirely their fault as producers just wanted them to control the programme in the same way longstanding host Dermot O’Leary – who has returned this year – always had.
He said: “I had a fantastic time on the show but people were quick to judge.
“I think we probably got criticised as we pretty much said and did the same things Dermot did – and that’s not what we wanted to do. We wanted to be ourselves – to have a laugh and not read the script that often. We weren’t really allowed to do that. At the same time, we were coming into a very well oiled machine and to change the script on our first year was difficult. I feel the media treated us harshly but that is part of being on the biggest show in the country.”
Olly insists he never took his departure from the show personally as he didn’t want to return for this series anyway.
He told Closer magazine: “Simon Cowell and I get on great. I don’t take anything to heart and I had decided to leave the show anyway. I don’t know if they were going to give me the job.
“I’m sure they already had discussions with Dermot. I was happy to walk away.”
But the ‘You Don’t Know Love’ singer admitted he hasn’t had much contact with Caroline since their stint on the show ended.
He said: “To be honest, we haven’t spoken loads. We’ve had chats and odd messages.
“We spent big chunks of last year together – it was a very intense time.
“We’re still mates – she’s doing her thing and I’m doing mine.”

Matt Smith not handsome enough for Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Smith doesn’t think he’s “handsome enough” to play James Bond.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star insists he could never be a serious contender to play the iconic British spy – but he’d be right for one of the villains in the franchise.
He said: “Oh God, I don’t think I’m handsome enough… I’m more of a Bond villain.”
Playing The Doctor is just as iconic a role, and the 34-year-old star is accepting of the fact it’s what he will always be recognised for.
He said: “It’s always about The Doctor [when I get recognised]. I don’t get anything else and I’ve always known that’s how it will be for the forseeable future because of the cultural devotion – I’ve made my peace with that from the start.
“Maybe it will be something else in 20 years – if I’m lucky.
“I’m lucky to be associated with that show in the first place.
And Matt – who is dating his ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ co-star Lily James – insists that he never gets annoyed with being associated with just one part.
Asked if it annoys him, he told heat magazine: “No way. The Doctor gave me my career, it’d be a bit ungrateful if I started moaning about it now.
“‘Doctor Who’ has a lot of significance for its audience – you can’t sully that by reacting badly when someone wants to talk to you about it.
“You’ll never hear me complain about the tag, I’d be such a s**t if I did.”

Martin Roberts and Wayne Bridge leave I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Roberts and Wayne Bridge have left the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ jungle.
The ‘Homes Under The Hammer’ host and the retired footballer were booted out of the ITV show in a shock double elimination, leaving just four left to battle it out to be King or Queen of the Jungle.
Speaking after his exit, the television presenter, who placed sixth in the competition, said: “The people, the experience, how it affects you in ways you would have never imagined; it’s just surpassed all my expectations …
“It was always going to be a difficult thing to break into [when he came into the jungle late]. There were things I wasn’t expecting and it got quite tough quite quickly. It goes back to this thing about wanting to be loved and liked by people, which comes from being badly bullied at school. And when you go into a group of people, you overcompensate and if you’re just yourself then people get to [see the real you].”
Meanwhile, in his exit interview with hosts Ant and Dec, Wayne – who has 10-year-old son Jaydon from his previous relationship with Vanessa Perroncel and sons Parker, three, and Carter, 15 months, with his wife Frankie Bridge – admitted he was nervous about heading into the jungle and found it very tough being away from his children.
He shared: “I had such a good time but I was so nervous about coming in. And literally everyone in there has made it such a pleasure [to be there] …
“Definitely at the beginning, it was [hard to be away from the kids]. I spend every day with the kids and the missus and I found it really hard. I’ll probably get ripped when I get out of here for crying on television but it is what it is.”
Now they are out, Martin and Wayne are both backing Scarlett Moffatt to be crowned Queen of the Jungle.

Carol Vorderman has bronchitis in jungle

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Vorderman had bronchitis in the ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ jungle.
The former ‘Countdown’ host – who was eliminated from the competition earlier this week – secretly battled with a severe chest infection while she was taking part in the creepy-crawly show and her breathing got so bad at one point that she was administered antibiotics.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she said: “There’s a coughing virus going around, you will have heard it. Mine got worse and worse and worse then on Saturday I had sharp chest pains so I asked to see Bob (the show’s medic).
“It was like breathing through bubbles. Once I got the chest pains, I thought I need something. He immediately put me on really strong antibiotics, electrolytes and glucose tablets.”
And, although she was advised to get some shut eye in her hammock to help her recuperate, the 55-year-old star didn’t want to let on the public that she had a medically issue.
She explained “I was trying to do my jobs but they all kept saying just go to bed. I needed to just rest, rather than being in a rain forest. I was really unwell.
“It was a really bad proper chest infection. I’m still on the antibiotics now. You’ve got to remember you’re breathing in smoke the whole time.”
Despite her painful chest, Carol didn’t let her illness affect her banter with camp mate Joel Dommett as the pair happily flirted up a storm in front the cameras on numerous occasions.
However, Carol has admitted she is totally single and has accepted a £250,000 offer to sign up to a new dating site in a bid to find her Mr. Right.
She said: “I’m the new a*se of Toyboy Warehouse. Yes, sign me up.
“Am I looking for Mr Right? Funnily enough, no. I meet a lot of men but I’m very happy. I think it’s marvellous. I’m not out there looking for more occasional. I’m very happy as I am. I’ve had a few offers in my time. Some wanted, some not so wanted.”

Ryan Thomas: Adam and Martin Roberts could remain friends after I'm A Celeb

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Thomas thinks his brother Adam will remain friends with Martin Roberts once they leave the ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ camp this week.
The 32-year-old actor – who was known as Jason Grimshaw in ‘Coronation Street’ until his exit earlier this – has praised his younger sibling for being a “people’s person” and is adamant he’ll continue his bond with everyone he’s met in the jungle – even the ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ star – once the show wraps up at the weekend.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Friday (02.12.16), he said: “Adam is a people’s person. He will stay friends with everybody, even Martin.
“He’s just that type of guy and I don’t think he will be choose friends to be someone over anybody else, he just loves being around a group of people.”
But, although Adam is really laid back, Ryan thinks Martin – who has been moaning a lot since he joined the camp – could be starting to get on his nerves.
He explained: “That’s Adam as you see him back home (happy). I think the only difference is, people are lacking sleep, they’re hungry, they’ve got Martin so it becomes difficult doesn’t it. He keeps picking on my brother, so I’m not going to like him picking on him in there, we’re not calling a scone a ‘scon’.”
Ryan may be four years old than Adam, 28, but he has admitted he’s often mistaken for him and people think him, Adam and their brother Scott are triplets.
He said: “We’re not triplets, Adam and Scott are twins. Scott was half an hour younger because he got stuck at the top. I’m four years older but me and Adam seem to get recognised for each other a lot. He used to get recognised for me but I think people will know who he is now.”

Andrew Sachs 'failed' to secure Doctor Who role

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Sachs thought he was a “failure” because he didn’t secure the lead role in ‘Doctor Who’.
The late ‘Fawlty Towers’ star – who passed away on November 23 aged 86 after a secret four-year battle with dementia – was reportedly in the running to play the famous Time Lord before the part was given to Sylvester McCoy, who took on the seventh incarnation of the regenerating hero from 1987 to 1989.
According to Andrew’s page on database website IMDb.com, the star would “love to have done it”, and has branded his missed opportunity as a “sad tale of failure”.
A quote on the page read: “I was up to take over as Doctor Who but didn’t get the part. Sylvester McCoy played it, but at that time they put my name forward for it. Shame, I’d love to have done it.
“You can be very self-indulgent and go mad and do all the wonderful things, but the script or the director should pull you back and say, ‘Come on, stop fooling about, just stop acting, just do it, be in the spirit of the script’. I hope I would have done that, but I never got the chance. One of my sad tales of failure in life.”
Although Andrew didn’t land the lead in the popular BBC sci-fi show, he did take on the role of antagonist Skagra in the 2003 six-episode miniseries ‘Doctor Who: Shada’.
However, it was his role as Manuel in the comedy ‘Fawlty Towers’ alongside John Cleese that made him a household name, and the 77-year-old actor quickly took to Twitter to share his condolences at the news of his passing.
He wrote: “Just heard about Andy Sachs. Very sad…. I knew he was having problems with his memory as his wife Melody told me a couple of years ago…
“…and I heard very recently that he had been admitted to Denham Hall, but I had no idea that his life was in danger. A very sweet gentle…
“… and kind man and a truly great farceur. I first saw him in Habeas Corpus on stage in 1973. I could not have found a better Manuel. Inspired (sic)”

Great British Bake Off to return next year?

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Great British Bake Off’ may return to television screens next year.
Love Productions – the makers of the popular baking show – have opened the application process for five weeks as they hunt for a new set of potential bakers for the a new series of the show following its recent move from the BBC to Channel 4.
A spokesperson for Love Productions said: “The precursor to every series has been to find the next batch of wonderful bakers from the thousands who apply.”
However, Channel 4 may find themselves slapped with a hefty bill as the contract between the BBC and Love Productions states that nothing can air in 2017, except a celebrity version for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4, or they could sue them.
And it seems the BBC – who has screened the show from 2010 – are willing to take legal action if Channel 4 push their luck as a spokesperson told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It looks like Channel 4 are testing the water but rules are rules.”
Although Channel 4 have now bought the rights to the cooking show after they won the bidding war with a three-year deal worth an estimated £75 million, the BBC will get one more chance to see judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood back together as they’re screening a festive special called ‘The Great Christmas Bake Off’ this month.
The one-off episode will feature a selection of bakers from previous series as they join the two culinary legends in the famous tent for a sweet-smelling cooking session.
This will be the last time Mary, 81, will be seen on screen with Paul after she shot down Channel 4’s offer to move with the show out of “loyalty” to the BBC.
The 50-year-old silver fox, on the other hand, was clearly dished out an offer he couldn’t refuse as he has agreed to front the programme next year on his own.

Rosie Webster's shocking return to Coronation Street

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’s Rosie Webster is set to bring “a whole load of trouble” to her family’s door when she returns in February.
The beautiful model – played by Helen Flanagan – fled the cobbles in 2012 to star in her own reality TV show in America but, despite convincing her relatives that she has been living the high life for the past four years, it seems she has some dark secrets that follow her back to Weatherfield when her sister Sophie (Brooke Vincent) drags her back home next year.
A spokesperson for the ITV soap told the Radio Times Online: “Sophie lands back on the cobbles and, along with her holiday souvenirs, she has also brought back a surprise visitor for (her parents) Sally and Kevin – big sister Rosie.
“On the surface it looks like Rosie has been living the high life in the States, but all is not what it seems as yet again Rosie brings a whole load of trouble to the Websters’ door.”
However, although Sophie is trying to do the right thing by bringing her sister back from the States to see her parents Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Kevin (Michael Le Vell), it seems the garage manager may come unstuck over the next few months as the trouble Rosie has got herself into will have a knock-on effect on her innocent sibling.
Show boss Kate Oates said: “Rosie is such a colourful character – I thought it’d be great for Sophie. I wanted to see Sophie led up the garden path a little bit and to see her in a bit of trouble. And I think that Rosie will cause Sophie a lot of headaches.”
Helen – who left the show to focus on her health and has since had 17-month-old daughter Matilda with her partner Scott Sinclair – recently confirmed she was rejoining the long-running soap and couldn’t wait to get stuck in to her comeback scenes.
She said last month: “I’m so excited to be returning to Coronation Street and being part of the Webster family again.”

Felicity Jones learned kung fu for her Star Wars role

OHMYGOSSIP — Felicity Jones trained in kung fu to make her ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ character a “bad-ass.”
The 33-year-old actress is set to play the rebel soldier Jyn Erso in the upcoming spin-off movie, and has recalled the time she took to learn martial arts techniques in order to bring out the best in her action-filled role.
She shared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’: “I did a lot of Kung fu, I had a wonderful teacher called Master Yule, who was my kung fu teacher.
“I mean it was many hours of devotion and practice and doing it over and over again, and now I’m just wanting to make Jyn a bad-ass.”
Felicity then showcased her moves to the host as she re-enacted the scenes of her battling with the stormtroopers.
Meanwhile, the actress has also agreed with co-star Ben Mendelsohn’s claim that the upcoming film will be among the “top three” ‘Star Wars’ movies of all time.
Asked about Ben’s remarks, she said: “Yes, it is. It’s just a fantastic story and it was magical making it.
“The scale of it, I think, and being thrown around in a spaceship that’s on a really high gimbal and it’s rocking from side to side and then you and your cast mates are all hanging on to each other, and there’s a camera right up in front of your face, and you’re shouting to each other, ‘Come on, we got to get to hyperspace.’ It’s brilliant.”
But Felicity remained tight-lipped about whether she will feature in similar action scenes in the future.
She said: “We shall see, but I’m devoted to Jyn Erso and her quests. She’s pretty damn cool, I have to say.”

Elijah Wood: British humour is wittier than American

OHMYGOSSIP — Elijah Wood thinks there is “more wit” to the British sense of humour than American comedy.
The 35-year-old actor, who was born in Iowa in the US, has explained how his starring role in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series exposed him to Britain’s distinctive style of comedy.
He shared: “[‘The Lord of the Rings’] was one of the great experiences of my life. It created more opportunities than it hindered.”
Elijah said that the iconic series, based on the work of author J. R. R. Tolkien, had an added benefit he could not have foreseen.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “It exposed me to British comedy. The British actors working on it spoon-fed me everything from ‘The Day Today’ to ‘Brass Eye’ to ‘The Mighty Boosh’.
“It doesn’t adhere to the same needs of American humour. It doesn’t constantly require a laugh out of you. It’s more sarcastic. There’s more wit to it.”
Meanwhile, Elijah has thanked his “solid family base” for ensuring he never went off the rails after finding fame as a child.
He said: “I was lucky in the sense that I started work very young but had a solid family base provided by my mother. She instilled a strong sense of perspective and humility in me from a very early age.
“Also, that kind of excess has never interested me. But I don’t envy people who are suddenly thrust into fame, because there are no tools to understand how to deal with that.”
But in spite of his fame, Elijah admitted he is still frequently mistaken for ‘Harry Potter’ star Daniel Radcliffe.
The actor said: “I ran into somebody the other day and they said, ‘I love you in ‘Swiss Army Man’ [ which stars Radcliffe].’ I was like, ‘Oh, there we go again!’ I actually find it really amusing.”

Debbie Dingle set for explosive Emmerdale return

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Dingle is set for an “explosive” return to ‘Emmerdale’ in January.
The mechanic – who is played by Charley Webb – hasn’t been seen in the village since late 2015, when she fled with her children after learning her boyfriend Ross Barton (Michael Parr) had shot Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), but she’ll be back from France in the New Year and in need of help from her parents Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Charity (Emma Atkins).
A show spokesperson teased: “Debbie Dingle will make an explosive return to the village early next year, leaving chaos in her wake.
“Having spent the last year in France, she is now on the run – but who is Debbie running from? And how long will it be before Cain and Charity come to her rescue?”
Charley – who left the show to have her second child Bowie, now 11 months – previously admitted she expects Ross to be involved in her alter ego’s return somehow.
She said: “It [my return] won’t be too far away and I’m sure that Ross will be involved in her return. There has to be some Ross and Debbie drama in there.”
During her maternity leave, Charley enjoyed watching her fiance Matthew Wolfenden – with whom she also has six-year-old son Buston – play out David Metcalfe’s cancer battle on ‘Emmerdale’, and was very proud of him for getting rid of his body hair for the storyline.
She has said: “I’m really proud of him. But I said to him that it’s the least he could do for that story. To give that little bit back. So many people are going through it in real life, so it just doesn’t enter my head.”

Victoria to start shooting in February

OHMYGOSSIP — The next series of ‘Victoria’ is set to go into production in February.
Jenna Coleman – who plays the late monarch in the period drama – has revealed bosses have decided to hit the ground running with the next installment of the show following the success of the first in September and would like it on screen by August.
She told the Metro newspaper: “We start filming again in. It’s really exciting – there’s so much story. It’s a case of pacing it and working out where to go with it.”
And it seems there may be more series in the pipeline as the writer Daisy Goodwin still has ideas up her sleeve that she’d like to put into a script over the next few years.
Jenna explained: “We’re doing season two and then it’s a question of where we go from there. There’s no shortage of story. You don’t want to go through it too quickly. There are nine children to have, so there is a long way to go.”
Jenna previously admitted she was initially skeptical about taking on the lead role in the show, but has now admitted that it was the story that sucked her in to the part.
She said: “People know certain things about her but the first three years of her reign haven’t been told before on screen. It’s quite modern as well. It’s about a young girl who had a huge personality and was surrounded by people who expected her to fail.
“She was the most powerful woman in the world at 18 years of age when women didn’t even have the vote. It’s got huge appeal on top of it being a true story and a great love story – and what they’ve achieved, capturing the Victorian era with beautiful set designs and costumes, has been fantastic.”
The 30-year-old actress can also see a bit of Victoria – who was the Queen from 1837 until her death in 1901 – in herself because she’s so “flawed.”
She explained: “What I love about her is she’s so flawed. She’s not what you would expect when you look at the portraits of her. She’s also quite impulsive and very often wrong but extremely stubborn. She’s so fun to play.”

Lydia Bright to compete in The Jump

OHMYGOSSIP — Lydia Bright is set to compete in the new series of ‘The Jump’.
The ‘Only Way is Essex’ star has become the latest celebrity to join the forthcoming winter sports show, which will hit television screens in January, after she was persuaded by bosses to ditch her glitzy gowns and killer heels for a pair of thermals and snow boots.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It’s fair to say ‘The Jump’ isn’t the most appealing show for celebs to appear on — especially if they have work lined up afterwards.
“Their talent list would be far more high-end otherwise. But there are some celebs who’ll do anything to increase their profile – even if it means a spell on crutches afterwards.”
And the 26-year-old beauty will certainly have her work cut out as she will be up against previously-announced competitors England International footballer Robbie Fowler, England Rugby Captain Jason Robinson OBE, Spencer Matthews, Caprice and Vogue Williams.
Lydia’s signing comes just a year after her ex-boyfriend James ‘Arg’ Argent – who she has dated on and off since they were at school – took part in the competition but, despite his best efforts on the ice, he was eliminated from the show just two weeks in.
Although she can’t wait to get stuck in, Lydia is no doubt riddled with nerves as last year’s show was responsible for a number of celebrities experiencing life-changing injuries.
The last series saw gymnast Beth Tweddle break her back, ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Mark-Francis Vandelli fracture his ankle and Rebecca Adlington dislocate her shoulder.
The spike in injuries meant bosses were forced to revisit the risky format and discuss whether it was worth bringing it back for another series at the beginning of next year.
However, after bosses managed to persuade a good amount of stars to take part in the forthcoming series, producers were given the go-ahead to do another installment.
