Stephanie Davis' son's umbilical cord falls off

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Davis’ baby son’s umbilical cord fell off today (20.01.17).
The 23-year-old actress cried with happiness when the stump attached to her little one’s belly button, which connects the placenta to the foetus, dropped off – exactly a week after he was born on January 13 – and he marked the occasion by peeing on her.
Taking to her Twitter account on Friday (20.01.17), the brunette beauty said: “OFFICIALLY ONE WEEK OLD!Celebrated by his umbilical cord fallen off and a big wee on mummy Tears of happiness My world! My baby boy (sic).”
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ star was discharged from hospital three days ago with her little bundle of joy, whose name is not yet known, and she squealed with excitement at the fact she and her newborn can now start the first chapter of the rest of their lives together.
Taking to her Twitter account earlier this week, the brunette beauty uploaded a black-and-white photograph of her carrying her baby in his car seat as they made their way out of the maternity suite at a hospital in Liverpool alongside the caption: “We did it little one… By far my favourite chapter yet… (sic),” followed by a red heart emoji.
Stephanie gave birth to her son on January 13 following a gruelling 48-hour labour and, although mother and baby were said to be doing well, doctors requested she stay in so that she could keep an eye on her and her brand new beautiful addition.
Her representative said at the time: “We can confirm our client Stephanie Davis today gave birth to a baby boy in Liverpool. Mother and baby are doing fine.”
Stephanie didn’t have the easiest of pregnancies as she was struck down with acute morning sickness in the first and second trimester and then she experienced some bleeding, which she feared was a sign of her losing her baby, in the third trimester.
However, doctors quickly established that her baby was fine and she had colitis.
Stephanie then started experiencing Braxton Hicks – irregular practice contractions that can be felt around mid-pregnancy and increase in frequency and strength as the pregnancy progresses – and pressure at the bottom of her stomach last month.
And things are set to get even more complicated for the actress as her ex-boyfriend Jeremy McConnell – who has denied he’s the father of the baby – is determined to have a paternity test done as soon as possible in order to know if he’s really the dad.

Nicholas Lyndhurst joins new theatre show

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicholas Lyndhurst has joined a new theatre production.
The 55-year-old actor – who is best known for playing Rodney Trotter in ‘Only Fools and Horses’ – will star alongside Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Carousel’ at the London Coliseum from April 7 this year until May 13.
The production will follow the story of Carousel Barker Billy Bigelow (Alfie) as he falls in love with Julie Jordan (Katherine) but little do they know that their romance will end in tragedy over a decade later after they found themselves caught up in an armed robbery.
This is the first time Nicholas has returned to the West End since 2011 when he starred in Trevor Nunn’s production of ‘The Tempest’ at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
But he’s no stranger to the stage as his other credits include Allan Davis’ ‘The Straight and Narrow’ at the Wyndham’s Theatre, Peter Hall’s production of ‘The Dresser’ at the Duke of York’s Theatre and ‘The Foreigner’ by Larry Shue at the Albany Theatre.
With a impressive screen and stage career, it’s hardly surprising that Nicholas’ 16-year-old son Archie, whom he has with his wife Lucy, wants to follow in his footsteps.
He said recently: “When Archie said he wanted to be an actor, I said: ‘I can’t offer any advice other than please don’t do it.’ He said: ‘Daddy, I just want to entertain people.’ I told Lucy: ‘If I ever hear him say the f-word – ‘famous’ – the deal’s off.’ He never has.”
However, Archie has since starting working on a kids TV comedy and the veteran sitcom star is shocked at how great his son is on screen.
He said: “He’s filming his second series for CBBC, ‘So Awkward’. I wish I’d been as good as him at his age. I became a different person overnight when I had my son – terrified. You could call me a helicopter parent, but now I’m learning to back off.”

Ricky Whittle caught up in sex tape scandal

OHMYGOSSIP — Ricky Whittle has been caught up in a sex tape scandal.
The 35-year-old actor is desperate to carve out a movie career in the US this year but is convinced his big dream is now in tatters after raunchy footage of him performing a consensual explicit act on a mystery woman was leaked online this week.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It was a consensual act which was filmed in private, so to discover it has leaked on to the web has really taken him by surprise. He’s done what he can do to try to have it pulled down. But there’s no telling how many people may have saved it or shared it. It’s very concerning — and people are only just discovering how widespread this practice is becoming.”
The embarrassing leak couldn’t have come at a worse time for Ricky as he’s currently working on a lead role in the US series ‘American Gods’ alongside Ian McShane.
Neil Gaiman – who has turned the novel into a series – said at the time: “I’m thrilled that Ricky has been cast as Shadow. His auditions were remarkable. The process of taking a world out of the pages of a book, and putting it onto the screen has begun.
“‘American Gods’ is, at its heart, a book about immigrants, and it seems perfectly appropriate that Shadow will, like so much else, be coming to America.”
His career has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years, considering the handsome star made a name for himself playing hunky policeman Calvin Valentine in the early-evening soap ‘Hollyoaks’ from 2006 until his alter ego was killed off in 2011.
During his time on the programme, Ricky agreed to take part in the BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and came runner-up alongside his professional partner Natalie Lowe.

Suranne Jones to star in new thriller

OHMYGOSSIP — Suranne Jones is set to star in a new thriller.
The 38-year-old actress has agreed to portray the female lead Claire alongside ‘This is England’s Stephen Graham – who will play a troubled alcoholic called Nelly Rowe – in a forthcoming series titled ‘Gone’ on Sky Atlantic.
The show, which is set in and around a south London housing estate, follows Nelly (Stephen) as he battles to prove his innocence of a horrific crime and teams up with his former lover Claire (Suranne) in a bid to find the real culprit.
Sky have also ordered a final series of the crime drama ‘The Tunnel’, which stars Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy as French police detectives Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann respectively, and will focus on the idea of tighter border control following the recent Brexit vote, which saw the UK withdraw from the European Union.
Sky drama boss Anne Mensah told The Sun newspaper: “I’m really excited about these two brilliant dramas coming exclusively to Sky Atlantic.
“‘Gone’ exemplifies the originality we aim for, while in ‘The Tunnel: Vengeance’ we return to our incomparable English and French detective duo.”
It looks like Suranne has a busy year coming up as she’s currently gearing up to shoot the second installment of the highly popular drama series ‘Doctor Foster’.
However, she recently admitted that she was initially opposed to the idea of another installment, in which she plays a doctor called Gemma who is left devastated when her husband cheats on her with a younger model, because she didn’t know where to take it.
She said: “I’ve read episode one and I’m due two and three. At first I didn’t know whether there should be a series two but then I wanted to look at the aftermath of a divorce as I don’t think there’s been any of that on TV…”

Michael Greco to join Casualty

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Greco has confirmed he’s joining BBC’s ‘Casualty’.
The 46-year-old actor – who was renowned for playing Italian stallion Beppe di Marco in ‘EastEnders’ between 1998 and 2002 – will make a return to television screens this year when he takes on the role of Phil Paterson in the hospital drama.
Taking to his Twitter account on Thursday (19.01.17) night, he said: “Am delighted to be joining the cast of @BBCCasualty Such an amazing show that’s maintained such incredibly high standards (sic),” followed by a black heart emoji.
And, although he’s been away from the spotlight for quite a while now, Michael has been inundated with offers about potential roles but was forced to turn some down.
He tweeted at the time: “Never a bad thing having to turn down work when you’re working. Keep on moving 2017. Love ya already.” Followed by praised hands emoji.
But his sights are set on a much bigger goal – to perform at the National Theatre.
He said: “An ambition of mine to appear at the NT. My favourite theater in the world.”
Back in October, Michael, 46, went public with his romance with ‘Hollyoaks’ actress Stephanie Waring, 38, and she supported his return to television.
She said: “I think he should go back to ‘EastEnders’. I watched it when he was in it years and years ago and I loved watching him on it. He’s back to work as an actor now and back in the UK, he’s been in America for a few years.”
And Michael would be open to an offer to portray the character again but he’s never been asked by bosses to go back.
When Stephanie asked him if he’d like to go back to Walford, Michael said: “Well I’ve never been asked to go back. You never say never, never close any doors. Who knows I mean I know so many characters come back to ‘EastEnders’.”

Anne Hathaway in talks for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Anne Hathaway is to star in the ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ remake.
The ‘Les Miserables’ actress is in talks to join the previously-cast Rebel Wilson in the upcoming twist on the con-artist comedy, which will now be called ‘Nasty Women’.
The film will see the gender roles reversed from the 1988 saga – which starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as two men competing to swindle an heiress, played by Glenne Headly, out of her fortune – as Anne and Rebel play two cultured scam artists competing to take billions from a naive tech prodigy.
As with the first movie, ‘Nasty Women’ is expected to show differences in class between the two con artists.
Jac Schaffer – who has been working on ‘The Shower’ for Anne – is writing the script for the film, but it doesn’t yet have a director.
‘Nasty Women’ is the second gender-reversal movie for the Oscar-winning actress as she’s currently filming ‘Ocean’s Eight’, a female take on the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise, alongside the likes of Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Awkwafina, Sarah Paulson and Rihanna.
Kim Kardashian West – who was robbed at gunpoint in October – and her half-sister Kendall Jenner also have cameo roles in the heist saga.
The movie is directed by Gary Ross and sees Matt Damon reprise his role as Linus Caldwell from the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise.
Matt stars alongside newcomers Damian Lewis – who rose to fame in ‘Homeland’ – ‘The Late Late Show’ host James Corden and Richard Armitage.

Ruby Rose's career challenge

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruby Rose’s “biggest challenge” is to convince movie bosses she can play a traditional role.
The ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ actress – who identifies as gender-fluid insists her life is “very privileged” because there are few major problems in her life other than producers not being able to picture her as a “Stepford wife”, a term associated with passive female partners.
She said: “My biggest challenge is to convince a network or studio head that I can play a Stepford wife.
“So I have no challenges. I went from being underprivileged to being very privileged.”
The ‘Orange is the New Black’ actress can’t believe how much big screen success she’s had in the last few years, with four movies – ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’, ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’, ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ and ‘Meg’ all slated for cinematic release this year – and doesn’t mind how busy that means she is as less than two years ago she’d never worked on a film.
She told Net-a-Porter’s The Edit magazine: “I haven’t had a day off in forever
“It’s only when I slow down that I realise. I have pinch-me moments, like, ‘Is this my life?’ Because I’ve got four films coming out in 2017, and 18 months ago, I hadn’t even made one.”
Up next for Ruby is a role in ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ and the 30-year-old star- who owns an electric guitar and a few ukuleles – is determined to hone her musicianship before starting work on the comedy.
She admitted: “I can’t play electric yet, but I want to do it for real, you know?”

Binky Felstead 'always' wanted big family

OHMYGOSSIP — Binky Felstead has “always” wanted a “big family”, according to her mum Jane.
The 26-year-old television personality recently announced she is expecting her first baby with on/off boyfriend and ‘Made In Chelsea’ co-star Josh ‘JP’ Paterson, and despite her mum Jane expressing “total shock” at the news, she believes her daughter will be “very maternal”.
Jane said: “A short while ago I suddenly found out I am going to be a grandmother! Total shock of course for both of us!
“What a wonderful gift this is! I can’t express how happy I am!
“Binks has always loved children; being very maternal she always saw herself having a big family – in the future!
“The future is a wonderful thing because you can let it sort itself out; because we have absolutely no control.”
And Jane has promised her daughter that the bundle of joy will bring her “undreamed happiness”, but has warned her of the “extreme tiredness” that comes with motherhood.
She added to MailOnline: They are both overcome with joy; and suddenly the future they planned – if they had planned one (which I doubt) – is turned on it’s head.
“They are going in a whole new exciting direction which will bring them undreamed of happiness – as well as extreme tiredness (and penury!)”
“I can be on hand if needed… and I feel I just might be!”
Whilst Binky and JP are not officially together at the moment, they do go on “dates” but insist they won’t be rushing their relationship for the sake of the baby.
JP said recently: “Where we’re both being very mature is with the fact that you should never get back together just because there’s a baby in the picture.
“It has to be for the right reasons.
“We love each other a great deal and there’s no pressure – but you do have to take the past into consideration, where there have been a few hiccups. We’re just taking it very easy.”

Celebrity Big Brother housemate to get eternal immunity

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ housemates will be asked to grant someone “eternal immunity” during Friday night’s (20.01.17) live eviction show.
‘Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit On The Side’ host Rylan Clark-Neal has confirmed the return of the eternal nomination, which caused outrage in the house last year when Stephen Bear was elected to receive the punishment by his housemates.
Explaining what would happen, Rylan said: “The housemate who wins the eternal immunity will choose one housemate to be up for eternal nomination. Which means … it is the first eternal immunity and eternal nomination of the series.”
It comes only days after former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional James Jordan was evicted from the house on Tuesday night.
Speaking after his exit, he said: “Of course I’m gutted. I’ve said to everyone, ‘Of course I’d like to stay. I’m having a laugh.’ But at the same time, if I come out, I get to see my wife so it’s win win.
“Jedward have got a massive following so they’re like a big power in the house. James is just a true gentleman. Myself and Coleen [Nolan] spent a lot of time with him in the smoking area and he’s just a gentleman. He’s adorable. He said, when we were in hell, that he was happy to go but then he said his highlight of the whole series was when all his housemates saved him and he got a bit tearful. He’s just amazing.”
Earlier in the week, Jasmine Waltz also left the famous abode after her housemates chose to evict her and save James Cosmo and Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt.
Speaking to host Emma Willis, she admitted: “I wasn’t expecting it. It was such a brutal weekend and even prior to that, it was so brutal for me.
“I was so sick and so miserable and crying every day and so sad and then boom, straight into hell … My first reaction was, ‘I’m so disappointed.’ I thought these were my friends and they had my back … I definitely had said to a couple of them that this isn’t for me, ‘I can’t handle it. I don’t want to do this anymore.'”

Dev Patel's weekly Google Maps lessons

OHMYGOSSIP — Dev Patel had to have weekly Google Maps lessons for his role in ‘Lion’.
The 26-year-old actor received technology lessons twice a week so he could look like a professional when he was scrolling through Google Earth as Saroo Brierley in the movie.
He said: “I actually had to have Google Maps lessons twice a week, because I’m so bad. On the schedule there was weight training, accent training and then ‘Dev’s one hour of Google Maps’. I’m just bad with technology.”
And Dev has also confessed to watching Australian MasterChef so he could perfect his accent for the role.
He told Australia’s The New Daily: “This was a big stretch for me – it’s hard. In my first audition I’m sure I sounded like Crocodile Dundee. I watched a lot of Australian MasterChef for my audition. I love it, it’s a great show.”
Meanwhile, Dev previously admitted it took eight months to get his Australian accent spot on.
He said: “A lot of effort is what it took. Eight months of effort in fact with the genius of a dialect coach from Sydney, Jenny Kent. I was really lucky that the production gave me that comfortable lead up to take that time to do that.”
Dev worked alongside Nicole Kidman, who plays his character’s adoptive mother in the film, and feel she “really opened up” for the movie.
Speaking about his co-star, he added: “I feel Nicole just really opened up … for this one. She is such an icon and to have her in this movie takes it to another level.
“I have a mum who I am very close to and when I read this script I knew my mum would be really proud of it and she was a couple mess when she saw it.”

James Mangold: Logan feels like 'the end'

OHMYGOSSIP — James Mangold “worked very hard” to make ‘Logan’ feel like “the end”.
The 53-year-old director is at the helm of the upcoming ‘X-Men’ movie – which centres around Hugh Jackman’s famous clawed superhero The Wolverine – and has said that whilst there will “always” be room for more stories in the franchise, he believes ‘Logan’ ties up many loose ends and says “what needs to be said”.
Asked if the movie provides a definitive conclusion to The Wolverine’s story, James said: “There’s always a way to tell more stories, but the fact is we worked very hard to craft a tale that makes you feel like this is the end and that we’ve said what needs to be said.”
James also praised the huge success of last year’s ‘Deadpool’ movie which – despite being packed with crude humour and colourful language which made it unsuitable for children – became the most profitable movie in the ‘X-Men’ franchise and “made the studio feel a lot better” about the risks James wanted to take with ‘Logan’.
He added: “I was already writing this movie before ‘Deadpool’ came out but I will say that what ‘Deadpool’ did is it made the studio feel a lot better about taking the risk I was asking them to take. They saw there was a marketplace reward for being different.”
And the director said his decision to make a “grown-up” superhero movie came as he wanted to create a movie that reflected the “adult nature” of the character.
He told Fandango.com: “I can’t please everybody because there are so many aspirations people want for these movies. But I think the one that I share and that is universal is the desire to see the intensity, the darkness and the adult nature of the Wolverine character.
“Much of the Marvel library is full of adult characters with adult themes that don’t always get to be explored because they’re making four-box movies for children as well. I think we’re making it very clear that we’re making a grown-up movie.”

Marnie Simpson is back with Lewis Bloor

OHMYGOSSIP — Marnie Simpson is back together with Lewis Bloor.
The ‘Geordie Shore’ babe would be open to appearing on the trashy reality TV show ‘Ex on the Beach’, which sees past lovers hook up on camera while holidaying abroad, if she hadn’t recently agreed to give her relationship with the fitness guru another go.
Speaking to MTV, she said: “If I was single I would definitely, definitely, definitely do ‘Ex On The Beach’. I think it’s right up my street.
“I’ve always been the kind of girl who likes to go on dates and likes being wined and dined – and I am a bit of a drama queen so I would just do it.”
It seems the on/off couple didn’t take long to patch things up as just last week the 25-year-old beauty was complaining about their long-distance love but admitted at the time that she still very much had feelings for her then-former flame.
She said recently: “It’s just so hard because we live so far away from each other. We both care about each other so much and it didn’t end on bad terms. We’re still speaking every day and we’re trying to come to an agreement on what’s best to do, but it’s just so tough being in the public eye. There’s nothing else I can really say – I just don’t know.”
As well as her love life, Marnie’s health has been up in the air as she was rushed to hospital last month with stomach ache, which doctors think is related to her bladder.
She explained: “I’m having more tests because the doctor thinks I might have a bladder condition. Drinking too much can make it flare up so I have to be really careful when I’m filming ‘Geordie Shore’.”

Olly Murs is 'gutted' Xtra Factor is cancelled

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs is “gutted” that ‘The Xtra Factor’ has been axed.
The ‘Troublemaker’ singer fronted the spin-off alongside Caroline Flack between 2011 and 2014 before taking over as host on ‘The X Factor’ – the main show – for a year in 2015, so it’s hardly surprising that he’s devastated the series has been chopped.
Taking to his Twitter account on Thursday (19.01.17), he said upon hearing the shocking news: “Awww what!!! Woke up to the news Xtra Factor is no more! Gutted! Some of the best memories on that show with Cazza & the crew!! #thatsright. (sic)”
Bosses decided to cut the sister show – which was broadcast after the main show on ITV for 12 years – in favour of making their online content “bigger and better”.
A spokesperson said: “‘The X Factor’ is our biggest ITV entertainment show in terms of online engagement.
“We have taken the decision to move away from a linear switchover show and instead focus our efforts on our digital platforms, in support of the main show.”
But the news hasn’t sat well with last year’s presenters Rylan Clark-Neal or Matt Edmondson – who were determined to get sacked after the last series – and they’re adamant they’re not to blame for the programme getting pulled as it had been going downhill for ages.
Rylan said: “After an amazing series I just want to say what an honour it was to finally host The Xtra Factor alongside the lovely Matt and naughty scamp Roman (Kemp).
“I propose a wake alongside Matt, Roman, Rochelle, Melvin,Sarah, MattR, Caroline, Olly, Konnie, Fearne, Holly and Ben where we can all wear black and mourn as one. God bless Xtra and all who sailed her. Sleep well girl. (sic)”
But producers are adamant the decision to cancel ‘The Xtra Factor’ had nothing to do with any of the hosts.
‘X Factor’ executive producer Richard Holloway, who is the managing director of Thames TV, said: “We’ve had great fun making the show and would like to thank Rylan, Matt and Roman for their fantastic and entertaining work on the last series. We now look forward to focusing on making great content for our social platforms in support of the main show.”

Jennifer Ellison told lose weight or 'never work in the West End again'

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Ellison’s agent told her she’d “never work in the West End again” if she didn’t get back her pre-baby figure.
The 32-year-old actress – who starred in the hit musical ‘Chicago’ before having her six-year-old son Bobby in 2010 – was devastated she was turned down for a lead role and given the shocking ultimatum.
Jennifer shared: “I’ll never ever forget it, but I was going for my first audition (since Bobby) and it was a big West End show, and I was like, ‘should I go? should I not?’ and i though, ‘go on Jen, just do it.’ It was the part of a type-cast blonde, really slim, but I went and I fitted into a dress I hadn’t fitted into for ages, and I got myself a pair of sloggis underneath, mu husband was going to me, ‘you look fabulous, you look gorgeous Jen.’ I came out, got papped, on my way out with my spanks showing, I was on the front of all the newspapers.
“I got a call from my agent and he said to me, ‘sometimes we have to do things in our client’s best interest, and he said, ‘This is feedback from the casting director. They’ve said if you ever want to working the West End again, for this type of role, you have desperately got to lose weight and get back to your ‘Chicago’ figure.’ Well I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach. I was like to Rob, ‘Why did you tell me I look gorgeous!'”
Despite their insult, Jennifer – who was a size 18 at her biggest – refused to name and shame the casting director but explained what drove her to gain weight.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’ on Thursday (19.01.17), she added: “I was always a dancer, I danced all my life, I went from being a West End star, leads in Chicago, and I had the baby, got post natal depression.
“I got to a size 18, I was in self destruct, I almost felt like, I’m a mum, I don’t have to care about me, I don’t have to care about what I look like.
“I was coming home from work, I was having a glass of wine, and everyone knows those big glasses turn into half a bottle and then a bottle.”
Jennifer recently lost a stone and a half after she took part in new show ‘Sugar Free Farm’ and admitted her new figure has given her tonnes of energy.
She added: “It makes you realise you don’t need what you’re eating. I was absolutely flabbergasted at how little calories we need to function.”

James Jordan's heated rows with Calum Best

OHMYGOSSIP — James Jordan clashed with Calum Best numerous times over his mother Angie Best while they were locked up in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house together.
The former ‘Strictly come Dancing’ professional – who was given the boot from the reality TV show earlier this week – has revealed he locked horns with the 35-year-old actor while trapped inside the infamous abode but the scenes never got aired.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’ on Thursday (19.01.17), he said: “I know there was three occasions where me and him and quite big arguments, and none of them were aired.
“I think there’s another side to him. I believe there’s another side to him. First one was over his mum [Angie] when she had to turn the egg-timers late at night – and he flipped at me about that. I said ‘it’s not me that’s done that, it’s ‘Big Brother’ who’s told her she had to do that’ and we had a massive argument about it.
“When Coleen [Nolan] said to him, ‘Oh you’d be my one night stand but I’d want to marry Jamie.’ Because he was in a bad place at that time – she said ‘you’re the kind of person I’d want to marry’ , because Jamie was upset about something. But then he [Calum] acted like a little baby and was getting all upset about it. And I was like ‘I’d find it a compliment! I’ll be your one night stand!’ You know what I mean? So I find him very sensitive and he wants to be this cool dude but I just think…yeah. I mean he’s got gentlemen written across his knuckles – and I think that’s just to remind himself maybe.”
And it wasn’t just Calum who was on the receiving end of James’ acid tongue as he also got embroiled in a war of words with Kim Woodburn on more than one occasion.
He said of the professional cleaner: “I think it’s the way you deliver something. You can have an opinion, you can be opinionated…but she just attacks people for no reason. And then she has all these low blows. As you get older you should be more chilled out because you know more about life. She just seems angry all the time.”

Lionel Richie to produce Sammy Davis Jr. biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Lionel Richie is to produce a Sammy Davis Jr. biopic.
The ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ hitmaker is going to bring Sammy’s life story to the big screen and it will be based on the 1965 memoir ‘Yes I Can: The Story Of Sammy Davis Jr.’ which was co-written by Sammy, his wife Jane and author Burt Boyar.
The movie has finally got the go ahead after a long-running legal battle with the executors of Sammy Davis Jr.’s estate which dates back to 2012 and was focused on who owns the rights to the project.
Five years ago it was alleged that one of Sammy’s daughters had sold the rights to two different companies and one of her sisters filed a $35 million lawsuit in response which was thrown out of court.
In 2015, a film, TV series and documentary about Sammy’s career were announced but none of them came to fruition.
Now all outstanding issues have been resolved and all of the late entertainer’s heirs, including his youngest son Manny, will work on the project along with producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mike Menchel and Lionel.
Announcing the film, the former Commodores star said in a statement: “It’s an honour for me to bring the life of one of my idols and friend to the screen. I’m so grateful to be working closely with the Davis family on this and couldn’t be happier to be moving forward on this passion project.”
Sammy was an acclaimed dancer and singer and was part of the famous Rat Pack super-group of entertainers popular in the 1950s and 1960s which included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop and the collective regularly performed on stage together and all appeared in several movies including ‘Ocean’s 11’ and ‘Sergeants 3’.
Even though Sammy was one of the world’s most popular stars when the Rat Pack performed in Las Vegas he was made to stay and prepare offsite because of racial segregation in the US.
Despite his huge success, Sammy’s life was tinged with tragedy; he almost died in a car accident in San Bernadino, California, in 1954, an incident which resulted in him losing his left eye. While he recovered from his injuries he studied Judaism and became a Jew in 1961. He died from throat cancer in 1990.
