Dannii Minogue unsure what to expect from Let It Shine final

OHMYGOSSIP — Dannii Minogue doesn’t know what to expect from the ‘Let It Shine’ final.
The 45-year-old singer is on the judging panel for the BBC singing competition – which aims to find five males to star in a musical based on songs by Take That – but has admitted she feels like a “spectator” on the show as she has no idea what will happen during the live final on Saturday (23.02.17).
Asked what audiences can expect from the show, Dannii said: “God knows! I’m there as a spectator as much as anyone else. Robbie Williams is coming on, he’s going to do a performance with Take That, all the girls in the audience will be going nuts. The bands that are performing for these winning spots will be working like crazy. They’re doing two numbers each, and I’m basically a spectator with the best seat in the house.”
Dannii – who is joined on the judging panel by Martin Kemp and the show’s creator and Take That singer Gary Barlow – was also pressed about the content of the musical, entitled ‘The Band’, but remained tight lipped.
She said: “I’m not allowed to say anything. Tim Furthers [the writer] explained the whole musical to me, and it’s really good. When he was explaining it to me I was actually laughing and bursting into tears. It’s not about Take That, but I can’t [say anything]! You’ll have to get Tim in here, or Gary.”
Meanwhile, Dannii admitted she doesn’t know the exact details of when the musical will hit theatres, but said audiences across the country will have a chance to see it before it takes up residency in London’s West End.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ on Friday (24.02.17), Dannii said: “I don’t know the exact date, but I know they will be touring around the country for a year, and then it comes into the West End.”

David Tennant: Julie Hesmondhalgh is 'utterly brilliant'

OHMYGOSSIP — David Tennant has praised Julie Hesmondhalgh as “utterly brilliant”.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress is set to star alongside the 45-year-old actor in the upcoming third and final series of crime drama ‘Broadchurch’, and David has praised her performance as Trish Winterman – a woman who has “suffered a serious assault” – as “heart-breaking”.
Asked what he could reveal about the series, which starts on Monday (27.02.17), David said: “What can I tell you? It’s a new case, so there’s new characters. [Detective Inspector Alec] Hardy and [Detective Sergeant Ellie] Miller are less personally involved initially, they find a woman on the steps of Broadchurch Police Station, and that’s how the series begins.
“Julie Hesmondhalgh, who you may know from ‘Coronation Street’, is utterly brilliant and heartbreaking as this woman who has suffered a serious assault. And we find her on the steps of Broadchurch Police Station and it kind of unravels from there, really.”
And David – who stars in the ITV programme as Alec Hardy alongside Olivia Colman’s Ellie Miller – also praised the show for being “honest”, as the small community is still “feeling the ripples” of Danny Latimer, who was found dead at the start of the first series.
Asked if the new case was connected to the previous series, the former ‘Doctor Who’ star said: “That’s still rumbling on. I think one of the things that ‘Broadchurch’ does really well is the actuality of what a crime would do to a small community is given proper respect.
“So the repercussions of Danny Latimer’s death, although it was several years ago in the story we’re now telling, the community is still feeling the ripples of that. You know, a small boy dies in a small community that’s not something that goes away, and I think that’s something that ‘Broadchurch’ has always tried to be honest to.”
Meanwhile David also confirmed that the upcoming series would be the last.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s ‘The Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ on Friday (24.02.17), David said: This is going to be the final series. This is it. There can be no more, this is it. Well you know, leave them wanting more.”

Dan Stevens 'delighted' with CGI in Beauty and the Beast

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Stevens is “delighted” with the computer technology used in ‘Beauty and the Beast’.
The 34-year-old actor took on the role of the titular Beast in the remake of the classic 1991 animated Disney movie, and has said he was pleasantly surprised at how detailed the facial expressions of his computer generated beastly counterpart turned out.
Speaking at the UK premiere of the movie at Spencer House in London on Thursday (23.02.17), Dan explained: “Very often it’s just a thought or a feeling or something that you’re trying to communicate through the Beast. The technology we used has brought such incredible sensitivity to the facial expressions of the Beast, I’m delighted. I can’t believe what they’ve managed to do. The way fairy tales have embraced this technology, and vice-versa, is amazing.”
And Dan – who has two children Willow, seven, and Aubrey, four, with his wife Susie Hariet – says it was “strange” for his children to see him as the character they love from the animated movie.
He said: “For my kids, this is going to be their definitive version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. They do love the animated version, but they loved coming on this set and they’ve loved watching this movie. It’s pretty strange for them to watch daddy as the Beast.”
Dan also said he felt a “responsibility” to his “childhood self” when taking on the role, as he’d enjoyed the original fairy tale as well as the animated production.
He said: “[I had a] responsibility to my childhood self who loved this book and this fairy tale, and I’ve read this to my children so many times. The number of times we’ve enjoyed the animated version as well, we just made this with such love for the original.”

Emma Watson: Beauty and the Beast remake offers more depth

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Watson says the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ remake offers “more depth” than the original.
The 26-year-old actress plays the role of Belle in the fantasy movie, which is a remake of the 1991 Disney animation, and has said the upcoming production gives the original story “more detail” and gives fans “more to enjoy.”
Speaking at the UK premiere of the movie at Spencer House in London on Thursday (23.02.17), Emma said: “I just think that if you love the original, then we really fill in parts of the backstory. There’s more depth, there’s more detail, and I think that if you’re a fan then there’s more to enjoy.”
And the actress – who stars alongside Dan Stevens as the Beast and Luke Evans as Gaston – say she connects with the character because of her ability to be “non-judgemental”.
When asked what makes Belle such a good person, the brunette beauty said: “For me it’s just that she’s so non-judgemental. She’s able to see past Beast’s exterior and even his bad temper, frankly, to see that there’s a vulnerable and loving man underneath. And I think people could learn a lot from Belle.”
Emma also dubbed the movie as “joyful” and “romantic”, and said the movie’s “universal” themes are what makes it a story that has stood the test of time.
She said: “It’s so joyful. It’s so romantic, it’s so funny, it’s so deep. It’s at moments really frightening, and I think it’s one of these films that is just really universal.
“It just fills you with joy. You go and watch it and you come out just feeling fuller for having seen it.”
Meanwhile, the star recently said she found it “really fun” playing the lead role as the iconic Disney princess because she was able to “pad” out her characters backstory.
She explained: “That’s the wonderful thing about Belle I feel like even in the original she was very progressive she was kind of a departure from a lot of the other Disney princess characters and so I think it was really just where in the moments I can fill in a bit more of her back story I can pad her out a little bit more, it was really fun to be able to do that.”

Luke Evans found Beauty and the Beast great 'fun'

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Evans found playing Gaston in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ great “fun”.
The 37-year-old actor took on the role of then main villain in the fantasy movie, which is a live-action remake of the 1991 Disney animated classic, and has said that whilst the character is “dastardly”, he thoroughly enjoyed stepping into the vain hunter’s shoes.
Speaking at the UK premiere of the movie at Spencer House in London on Thursday (23.02.17), Luke said: “You only take on a role like Gaston if you feel like you’re going to have fun playing him. Even though he’s dastardly and self-absorbed to such a level it’s extraordinary, but you know it’s fun. He’s a larger-than-life narcissist, but he’s also quite charming, so I tried to play both aspects as much as I could. And I hope people can laugh at him as much as hate him by the end of the film.”
And Luke has also hailed co-star Josh Gad, who portrays Gaston’s bumbling sidekick Le Fou, as a “joy to work with”.
He said: “Josh is funny whether he’s got a script or not. I mean he makes us all laugh, he was a joy to work with and we had so much fun. You can’t really have a Gaston without a Le Fou and vice-versa.
“They play off each other and they rely on each other for a lot in the film. Support, ego massaging, and being part of the gang.
“We had a lot of fun playing with that dynamic and given them much more depth than the animation has, and that was really fun to do as well.”
The Hollywood hunk says the romantic movie – which also stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the titular Beast – is “very special”, and something which he’s “proud of”.
He said: “This one’s been an especially long time in the process. It’s been like 18 months all together since we wrapped the movie, so we’ve all been dying to talk about it. We’re all very proud of it, it’s very special, and everyone we know who’s seen it has loved it already.”

Top Gear hosts put on strict diet

OHMYGOSSIP — The stars of ‘Top Gear’ have been put on a strict diet.
Matt LeBlanc, Rory Reid and Chris Harris have reportedly been told by show bosses that they must not “pile on the pounds” and they have been ordered to cut back on alcohol.
Of the show’s launch party, a source told the Daily Star newspaper: “Matt, Rory and Chris were steered away from the fancy cocktails, nibbles and pastries on offer at the event.
“They were telling people that they weren’t to pile on the pounds. They were able to tuck into the main meal, which was mostly greens and stuff, but not much else.”
It comes after Matt revealed he was incredibly excited about fronting the new series but admits it is “tough” because he feels “everybody is waiting for you to put a foot wrong”.
He said: “I’m excited. The show seems to be surrounded by huge controversy, and I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s because of the history of the show – but boy, being on that show is like being in a fish bowl.
“Everybody is after you. Everybody is waiting for you to put a foot wrong and that’s tough but, you know, I like cars. I know a little bit about cars. I can say some funny things about cars. Hopefully people will watch it.”
The team began working on the new series shortly after the last series wrapped but things were up in the air for a short time after Chris Evans decided to leave the show.
Matt revealed: “When it comes to what will be different in the show, they are still working out the rough edges about what will change because Chris had creative control on the show before. I’m not really sure what’s going to happen. [Producer] Alex Renton is in charge now and he’s a very competent guy. He’s a very smart guy and I trust him. We’ll see how it goes.”

Linda Gray hates fish and chips

OHMYGOSSIP — Linda Gray thinks fish and chips are “disgusting.”
The ‘Hollyoaks’ actress – who was born and raised in Santa Monica, California – was forced to chew on the traditional British favourite when she reprised her role as Tabby Maxwell-Brown in ‘Hollyoaks’ for the funeral of her grandson, Nathan Nightingale (Jared Garfield), in scenes that will air tonight (24.02.17), and has admitted she couldn’t help but turn her nose up at the greasy grub.
She explained: “By the time I actually got to eat one it was freezing and raining! I had a hot water bottle on my lap and then Richard (Linnell, who plays Alfie Nightingale) said, ‘Oh Linda I have thermals on underneath my trousers’ and I only had thin little stockings on! I had a hot water bottle on my legs; I think I was even sitting on a hot water bottle.
“So by the time I ate the chips they were disgusting! My reaction in the episode to those chips was not acting! Richard and I had a great time laughing about it.”
The 76-year-old actress made a cameo in the Channel 4 soap at the latter end of last year and bosses were over the moon when they persuaded her to return this year.
She said: “It was like coming back to my family, I loved it! It was lovely to see everybody again. David (Easter, who plays Mac), Lysette (Anthony, who plays Marnie) and I had lovely conversations about our families and David’s wife made me some chocolate cupcakes and we were just sharing things and catching up like old friends.”
Although Linda was best known for portraying long-suffering wife Sue Ellen Ewing in CBS’ ‘Dallas’ between 1978 and 1989, she has admitted she thoroughly enjoyed her time on ‘Hollyoaks’ and learnt to love the role of Tabby.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, she said: “I love playing Tabby. She is dysfunctional and she has her problems but no actor or person is one note. We have all flavours and colours and we can be happy one moment and sad the next, we go through various things. We are all human beings doing the best that we can.
“Tabby isn’t the warmest but she still cares and she deals with life the best she can although sometimes it’s not what the rest of us would do.”

ITV to launch new challenge show

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV are set to launch a new challenge show entitled ‘Cannonball’.
Bosses at the popular broadcaster are looking to emulate the success of their current physicality-based challenge show ‘Ninja Warrior UK’ and rival broadcaster BBC’s bonkers ‘Total Wipeout’ – which was axed in 2013 – by commissioning the new programme which will see contestants compete in a variety of water-based tasks.
According to The Sun newspaper, the show will include entertaining challenges such as attempting the highest and longest jumps possible from water slides whilst wearing fancy dress.
The publication also reports that the programme will be filmed in the warmer climate of the Mediterranean, so hopeful applicants aren’t put off by the idea of getting into freezing cold water.
A source told the newspaper: “‘Cannonball’ is a wacky idea for a show but it promises to be funny. It involves people throwing themselves around in a swimming pool and making fools of themselves.”
The idea for ‘Cannonball’ comes from an existing show named ‘Bommetje XXL’ which has already proved a hit in Holland, and was made by production company Talpa Media, bought by ITV in 2015.
Talpa Media are also the production company behind ‘The Voice UK’ – which ITV previously bought the rights to after it was dropped by the BBC – celebrity dance competition ‘Dance Dance Dance’, and Phillip Schofield’s new game show ‘5 Gold Rings’.
Whilst no air date has been confirmed for the show, ITV bosses are already looking for willing participants with applications closing on March 26.
An advert posted on the ITV website says: “We’re looking for brilliant, courageous, adventure loving contestants for our massive new water based challenge show filmed in a stunning Mediterranean location. No fitness skill required, you just need to be able to swim and willing to be… thrown in at the deep end! You don’t have to be a six packed, gym lover to win ‘Cannonball’.
“Daredevils, of all shapes and sizes can apply, no matter what their athletic ability – anyone can win. If you’ve got the guts to get wet, the glory could be yours.”
At time of publishing, no host has been confirmed for the show.

Chris McKay set to direct Nightwing

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ director Chris McKay is in line to helm a superhero movie focused on the DC Comics character ‘Nightwing’.
Warner Bros. Pictures is keen to expand the Bat Family’s presence in the DC Extended Universe and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, McKay is in talks to bring the story of the original Robin Dick Grayson’s transition to become Nightwing, the leader of the Teen Titans, to the big screen.
The script for the project is reportedly being written by The Accountant’s Bill Dubuque and it will be the first time Grayson will be seen in the DCEU as a lead character.
McKay’s animated ‘Lego Batman Movie’ has been universally praised and Warner Bros. are keen for him to bring his humour and understanding of the Batman characters to ‘Nightwing’.
The comic book history of Grayson mirrors the tragedy of Bruce Wayne’s as he was the youngest member of a family of acrobats, known as The Flying Graysons, His parents were murdered and Bruce then takes him under his wing and he eventually becomes his alter ego Batman’s sidekick.
Grayson was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and illustrator Jerry Robinson and first appeared in Detective Comics issue #38 in April 1940 as the original incarnation of Robin. In Tales of the Teen Titans #44 – which was published in July 1984 – the character retires his role as Robin and assumes the superhero persona of Nightwing, created by Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez.
Nightwing then headlined his own comics and although he has never featured as a character in a Warner Bros. film he has appeared in animated movies.
The ‘Nightwing’ project is the latest DC Extended Universe project being brought to cinemas by Warner Bros. following the release of ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Suicide Squad’.
The next release will be ‘Wonder Woman’ starring Gal Gadot on June 2, then superhero ensemble movie ‘Justice League’ on November 17 then ‘Aquaman’ starring Jason Momoa will follow in 2018.
Warner Bros. has also confirmed that ‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves is to direct ‘The Batman’, starring Ben Affleck as The Caped Crusader.

Doctor Who's spin-off Class gets the axe

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off ‘Class’ has reportedly been axed.
The teen show, which first appeared on screens in October last year, is unlikely to be recommissioned for another series after the eight-parter failed to pull in enough viewers, despite Peter Capaldi appearing as the Time Lord in the first episode.
A show source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘Class’ hasn’t been the success the BBC were hoping for. No decision has been made on a recommission.”
Producers had high hopes for the show, which follows a group of teens at Coal Hill School where Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) was a teacher, as they’d managed to snap up ‘Coronation Street’ favourite Katherine Kelly as alien teacher Miss Quill.
But, despite the first episode reeling in one million viewers on BBC iPlayer, the ratings had plummeted to a measly 300,000 by the time the series wrapped up in December.
‘Class’ is the fourth TV spin off for ‘Doctor Who’ after ‘K9 and Company’ in 1981, ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ in 2007 and, most recently ‘Torchwood’ from 2006 until 2011.
It’s not just the spin off that’s in for a shake up, as the main show will also experience changes later this year when Peter steps down as the iconic time-travelling scientist.
Peter – who became the 12th actor to take on the role in 2013 from Matt Smith – said: “I feel it’s time to move on. I feel sad, I love ‘Doctor Who’, it is a fantastic programme to work on. It can’t praise the people I work with more highly, but I have always been someone that did a lot of different things.”
Steven Moffat – who has worked on the show for seven years – will also had over the writing reins to ‘Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall after the festive special this year.
He said: “I’m sure I’ll miss it for the rest of my life and reminisce to very bored people about how I used to be something, I used to matter, then sob on their shoulder and get kicked out the pub.”

Emma Watson: Beauty and the Beast is unapologetically romantic

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Watson believes ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is “unapologetically romantic”.
The 26-year-old actress plays the role of Belle in the fantasy movie, which is a re-make of the 1991 Disney animation, and the star believes the film brings “pure joy” to the audience and leaves everyone feeling “fuller” after watching it because the plot line is centred around love.
Speaking about the movie, the brunette beauty said: “Pure joy this film, it’s un-apologetically romantic and sometimes we need that. And I thin particularly now we need that. You come out fuller than when you went in.”
And the star found it “really fun” playing the lead role as the iconic Disney princess because she was able to “pad” out her characters backstory.
However, Emma’s co-star Dan Stevens, 34, who was cast as the Beast felt there was pressure on him to do the film justice because he “loved” the fairy tale when he was growing up.
Speaking at the London premiere of the production to the Mail Online, he said: “The biggest responsibility I really felt was to myself. I loved this fairy tale growing up and fairy tales in general, and I like them well told, and the animated feature told it well. But every generation comes at a myth from a slightly different angle and maybe reads into it and we need these tales at different times.
“There is something very very important to tell children from this tale, many things and the thing I love about them is you really can read what you want about them but there are several timeless messages but yes you feel the burden of responsibility to carry them on.
“We made this two years ago, there are now certain scenes in it that resonate that we couldn’t have imagined two years ago, and it is strange. That’s the magic of fairy tales they tell a lot of truth.”

Matt Reeves confirmed to direct The Batman

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Reeves will direct ‘The Batman’.
The ‘Cloverfield’ filmmaker is “incredibly honoured and excited” to take the helm on the DC Comics blockbuster after Ben Affleck, who returns as the titular character in the movie, stepped down as director last month in order to focus on his performance.
Matt said: “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply.
“I am incredibly honoured and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
And confirming the news following weeks of speculation, studio bosses praised the ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ filmmaker and are confident they’ve found the right man for the job.
Warner Bros. president Toby Emmerich said in a statement: “We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of ‘Batman’, the crown jewel of our DC slate.
“Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.”
Meanwhile, Ben, 44, previously explained he stepped down as director in order to concentrate on giving the part of Batman the “passion” it deserves.
In a statement, he explained: “There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.
“Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Ben played the Caped Crusader for the first time in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and reprised the role in ‘Justice League’, which is released in November.
The ‘Batman’ is scheduled for release in 2018.

Cilla Black musical to open in Liverpool

OHMYGOSSIP — A musical about the life of the late Cilla Black will open in Liverpool this autumn.
The show is based on the 2014 three-part TV drama ‘Cilla’ and writer Jeff Pope has adapted his screenplay for the theatre, while the ‘You’re My World’ hitmaker’s son Robert Willis, revealed ‘Cilla, The Musical’ was the final project his mother gave her blessing to before she passed away in August 2015 aged 72.
He said: “Once the show had gone out on television, we talked to her about the possibility of doing a stage version.
“Jeff, who hadn’t written a book for a musical before, and myself went about looking at musicals, and we visited Liverpool and the Cavern. We had a lot of fun; and my mother was excited about it — though the success of the drama surprised her a bit. Initially, she couldn’t understand why anybody would be that interested.
“When there was such a great reaction to Sheridan [Smith] and the drama — and therefore to her — she was touched. She felt in her heart of hearts that she was a pop singer, and so despite how important TV was to her, she really felt that the drama highlighted her passion for singing.
“She was really made up, as she would say, that the drama did that; and people were coming up to her saying it was lovely — and I was really grateful that she experienced that before she died.”
And Robert admitted it was a very emotional decision in going ahead with the musical after his mother’s death.
He added: “When she died, naturally, all the plans went on hold. Now the dust has started to settle, we had to make a choice: is this something that we let go? Or continue with.
“We, all of us, felt it would be a sort of living memorial to her. Jeff had already written the script. It was something that would entertain and resonate. So we should go for it.
“It’s the last big connection that I have with her. I want to do it for her. It was the last project she wanted to see happen.”
The production will explore Cilla’s early life as a singer and how she became a star with the help of her future husband Bobby Willis, and music mogul Brian Epstein, and will end just before her spouse helped her become the highest-paid presenter on TV with shows such as ‘Blind Date’ and ‘Surprise, Surprise’.
According to Jeff, the show will concentrate more on the music than his TV programme did, featuring a number of Cilla’s songs such as ‘Alfie’ and ‘Liverpool Lullaby’, but also the early Merseybeat sound with groups like The Big Three, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, and The Beatles.
But Robert – who was also Cilla’s manager – insisted the music will feature in context to the story.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper columnist Baz Bamigboye: “We’re not suddenly having Cilla bursting into song over a cup of tea! It’s either singing in a club or a recording studio.”
Open auditions will be held in the coming months to find a lead.
Robert said of the role: “The key thing is to capture that energy she had: that joy for performing; that sincerity and vulnerability.”
The production – which will be directed by Bill Kenwright and Bob Thomson – will open at the Liverpool Empire on September 7 and Robert thinks his mother would have been delighted by the choice of venue.
He said: “It was a theatre my mother loved. Before she became well known, she would wait by the stage door and ask for autographs.”
After leaving Liverpool on September 16, ‘Cilla, The Musical’, will embark on a nine-date tour and there is hope it will eventually transfer to London’s West End.

Vicky Pattison will work less this year

OHMYGOSSIP — Vicky Pattison has vowed to work less this year.
The former ‘Geordie Shore’ star launched a successful presenting career after winning ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2015 but despite having some “amazing” experiences on ‘Ferne and Vicky: On the Road’ with Ferne McCann and co-hosting ‘I’m A Celebrity: Extra Camp’, she admits she didn’t enjoy them as she was always thinking ahead, so this year she’s only taking on projects she’s truly passionate about.
She said: “I had some amazing experiences last year but I couldn’t do it again.
“This year I’ve made a promise to myself to only work on things I feel truly passionate about. I had the chance to travel the world last year but I couldn’t enjoy it. I’d be somewhere amazing but all I could think about was what was coming up next.”
And Vicky admitted her busy schedule, combined with a desire to fit in, led to her piling on the pounds last year.
She explained: “I was completely overworked and that led to me becoming overweight, which really got me down. My schedule for ‘Extra Camp’ was so rigorous, I barely had time to work out.
