Holly Hagan is removing tattoo of Kyle Christie's face

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Hagan has started the process of removing the tattoo of her ex-boyfriend Kyle Christie from the back of her neck.
The former ‘Geordie Shore’ star has taken to social media to document the first step on her journey to remove the body art of her ex-boyfriend, which will take eight sessions to completely get rid of, after the former couple split following their appearance on MTV’s ‘Just Tattoo of Us’, which saw the reality star get the inking.
Speaking on her Twitter account about the procedure to undo the permanent marking, the 24-year-old wrote: “We’re one session down and around 8 more to go! (sic).”
However, the reality star has joked the portrait of her previous partner now looks like he has a “skin condition” because of the impact of the laser treatment.
She continued: “He currently looks like he has a skin condition. Thanks @skinsandneedles for the laser (sic).”
Holly and Kyle were invited to take part in the series by her friend and former co-star Charlotte Crosby who co-hosts the programme with her boyfriend Stephen Bear.
During the episode Kyle decided to tattoo his own face onto the bottom of Holly’s neck, and it has been reported his actions have caused Holly and Charlotte to fall out.
Speaking previously, the 26-year-old television personality and presenter said: “After Holly found out what her tattoo was and went home she didn’t actually speak to us properly for like three days.
“Anyone who watches the episode will freak out. Because if their boyfriends ever did this to them let’s just say they wouldn’t be your boyfriend for much longer.”
Since filming the episode Holly and Kyle have called time on their romance, however it is rumoured Holly knew she wanted to end her relationship before appearing on the show.

Lee Ryan was asked to star in EastEnders aged 16

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Ryan was asked to be in ‘EastEnders’ when he was just 16 years old.
The Blue singer will make his debut in Albert Square next week as bar manager Woody, but he could have been a familiar face to viewers long before now if the 33-year-old hunk hadn’t opted for a pop career instead.
He said: “(Casting executive) Julia Crampsie cast me for ‘Holby City’ years ago and I stayed in touch with her.
“When I was 16, she rang my mum and said she had a part for me on ‘EastEnders’ and my mum said, ‘Sorry, he’s just joined a band and signed to EMI’. Julia told her, well if it doesn’t work out, give me a call.’
“That band was Blue and it did work out.”
When it came to landing the role of Woody, Lee wasn’t even told he had an audition until a few minutes before, but he was happy to have it landed on him so suddenly as it meant he didn’t have the time to get nervous.
He said: “Julia didn’t tell me I was auditioning. She said to come in for a meeting with Sean O’Connor (executive producer), who I’d never met before.
“Then she turned around to me and said, ‘By the way, there is a part for you and this is actually an audition – there’s the monologue, you’ve got 10 minutes.’
“[But] it was actually good because it didn’t give me any time to have any nerves. I just thought, ‘Alright then – come on, let’s do it.’
“Then the next day, she rang me up and said I’d got the part.”
When he called his loved ones to tell them about his new job, they were all thrilled.
Lee told Heat magazine: “I was just walking into a boxing class [when I got the call] and I was jumping up and down.
“I rang my mum and she burst out crying, bless her. I’ve told the boys from Blue and they are all massively supportive.”

Bradley Walsh to undergo operation for blepharitis

OHMYGOSSIP — Bradley Walsh is to undergo an operation to help with his chronic blepharitis.
The 56-year-old game show host suffers from the incurable chronic illness, which has symptoms ranging from inflammation of the eyelids, crusty eyelashes sticking together and a burning, gritty sensation in eye.
Bradley, who also suffers from hay fever, appeared on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ on Tuesday (11.04.17), where he explained:”I have to take one 10ml tablet of loratadine a day, otherwise I really struggle.”
The ‘Chase’ host says his blepharitis is so serious that he has resulted to finding a more permanent solution.
He added: “I get bad blepharitis as well, I’ve got to have my eyes operated on to sort that out.”
Hay fever is a condition that affects an estimated 10 million people in England, and although it can affect people at any age, it’s more common in teenagers, something Bradley can identify with as he has suffered with the condition since he was a teen.
When asked about what kick-starts his hay fever, he said: “Cats, horses, dogs, dust. It really affects it however, if I take 10 ml of loratadine a day I’m fine.”
His health problems resulted in him sporting glasses on the show, a look not many fans will be used to and that when he is on ‘The Chase’ people ask him about his eye condition.
He added: “People don’t realise I’ve got seriously bad blepharitis.”

Brad Pitt's Ad Astra to film in July

OHMYGOSSIP — Brad Pitt’s new movie ‘Ad Astra’ will begin filming in July.
The 53-year-old actor is set to star in the upcoming sci-fi movie which will see him play the role of an autistic engineer whose father left when he was young to try and find extra-terrestrial life on Neptune. As an adult, Brad’s character is now tasked with travelling the solar system to find his father.
The idea for the movie was penned by filmmaker James Gray – who directed the recently released movie ‘The Lost City of Z’, which Pitt produced – who recently confirmed the impending shoot date.
When asked by Collider.com if ‘Ad Astra’ is his next project with Pitt in the starring role, Gray said: “Yes, yes, and yes. I’m terrified by it.
“The science-fiction genre is so tricky because there are elements of fantasy usually involved, and there are also fantastical elements. What I’m trying to do is the most realistic depiction of space travel that’s been put in a movie and to basically say, ‘Space is awfully hostile to us.’
“It’s kind of a ‘Heart of Darkness’ story about traveling to the outer edge of our solar system. I have a lot of hopes for it but it is certainly ambitious … It starts shooting July 17th, so not too far away. I’m filled with terror, but that’s fine.”
As of yet, no other details have been released about the project with no release date or further casting announcements.
Meanwhile, Gray recently dubbed Pitt as the “greatest guy”, despite missing out on the debut of ‘The Lost City of Z’ at the New York Film Festival last year following his high-profile split from Angelina Jolie.
Gray said of Pitt: “I’ve exchanged a lot of emails with him. I love him to death. I’ve been here, obviously, not there. I’ll see him soon. He is the greatest guy.”
“I owe him a huge debt. He was the one who sent the book [that inspired the film] to me and he’s the one who’s stuck by me for many, many years. And I’ve got nothing but love for that guy.”

Dwayne Johnson: Black Adam could become permanent DCEU character

OHMYGOSSIP — Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson thinks his DC Comics character Black Adam could join an ensemble movie “at some point”.
The 44-year-old actor was first cast as Black Adam for the upcoming DC movie ‘Shazam!’ – in which his character would be the villain – however slow development on the project and the rising popularity of Dwayne led studio bosses to give the character his own eponymously titled feature.
Now, Dwayne believes Black Adam could become a steady character in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) after he’s been established in his own movie.
Speaking to MTV News, Dwayne said: “We’ve had great discussions with Geoff Johns over at DC. This is a really fun, cool time for DC right now because they’re world-building. We’re seeing that with Wonder Woman and Aquaman. We have a few surprises down the line. So what we decided to do was to create a scenario where Black Adam has his stand-alone movie, and Captain Marvel, Shazam, has his stand-alone movie. We’re building our world that way, and then we can come together at some point.”
If Black Adam does become a steady feature in the DCEU, he could appear in a future ensemble movie, if the studio bosses decide to pursue a sequel to the upcoming ‘Justice League’, which sees Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) join forces to battle with the evil Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds).
Recently, ‘Justice League’ director Zack Snyder said said one of the most “rewarding aspects” of making the feature was working with the “complex relationships” that exist within the group of “larger-than-life characters”.
He said: “One of the more rewarding aspects of creating Justice League was having fun exploring the dynamic between this diverse group of larger-than-life characters with disparate backgrounds, ethics, and unique perspectives all trying to come together and work as a team.
“It not only offers an opportunity for great drama and complex relationships, but it also often results in great fun. It’s an exciting concept to explore and it only gets better when you add the component of our incredibly talented cast – their chemistry really adds to that dynamic.”
‘Black Adam’ has yet to be given a release date, but ‘Shazam!’ is scheduled for 2019 and ‘Justice League’ will hit screens in November this year.

Sonoya Mizuno joins Crazy Rich Asians

OHMYGOSSIP — Sonoya Mizuno is set to join the cast of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
The Japanese actress will join the previously announced cast including Constance Wu and newcomer Henry Golding in the upcoming movie based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan.
‘Crazy Rich Asians’ is loosely based on the childhood of the author, and follows the story of Rachel Chu (Wu) an America-born Chinese economics professor who travels with her boyfriend Nick (Golding) to his home country of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding.
Rachel then discovers the secret background of her boyfriend when she finds out he comes from an incredibly wealthy family and is the most eligible bachelor in Asia.
Mizuno will play the role of Araminta, the fiancée of Nick’s best friend Colin, who is a major fashion icon in Singapore.
The project is being directed by Jon M. Chu, who previously directed dance features ‘Step Up 2: The Streets’ and ‘Step Up 3D’, as well as the concert movie ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’.
Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, as well as Ivanhoe president John Penotti, are producing the feature, with Kevin Kwan serving as an executive producer alongside Ivanhoe chairman Robert Friedland.
The feature is being distributed by Warner Bros., who are sending in Courtenay Valenti and Jon Gonda to oversee the production.
Meanwhile, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ will mark the biggest role to date for Mizuno, who was formerly a ballerina before turning her talents to acting.
Previously, Mizuno had a role as the cyborg assistant Kyoko in sci-fi thriller ‘Ex Machina’, and was also seen as Caitlin, one of Emma Stone’s roommates in the hit musical movie ‘La La Land’.
‘Crazy Rich Asians’ has yet to be given a release date.

Peter Capaldi knew his time was up in Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi knew his time as the Time Lord was coming to an end.
The 58-year-old actor has portrayed the time-travelling scientist since 2013 after he replaced Matt Smith as the titular character but he has admitted he always knew his stint would be relatively short because he doesn’t like to do one thing for too long.
Speaking to Radio Times magazine, he said: “I’ve never done anything for any length of time. Even ‘The Thick of It’ was only 20 episodes over four years. I’ll have done 40 episodes of ‘Doctor Who’. I don’t think if I stayed on I’d be able to think of another way to say ‘this could be the end of civilisation as we know it’. I’ve always gone from one job to the other and seen what was around the corner and I want to get back to that.”
Peter confirmed he was stepping down as the iconic character earlier this year – shortly after Steven Moffatt announced he was leaving as the show runner – but the cast have teased that the forthcoming series 10, which will hit television screens on Saturday (15.04.17), will be one of the best ones yet.
Pearl Mackie, who plays the Doctor’s new gay companion Bill, said: “Series 10 is a lot to do with the relationship between the Doctor, Bill and Nardole [an alien played by Matt Lucas]. They’re all very different.”
Meanwhile, ‘Broadchurch’ creator Chris Chibnall – who will take over from Moffatt later this year – has already started work on the next series but is yet to choose who will take over from Peter as the titular character.
He said previously: “We’ll cast the role in the traditional way: write the script, then go and find the best person for that part in that script. You couldn’t go out and cast an abstract idea.”
Some viewers have called for a woman to be cast as the Doctor and, although he’s not giving it much thought at the moment, Chibnall has “a very clear sense” of what he wants.
He said: “The creative possibilities are endless, but I have a very clear sense of what we’re going to do, without even knowing who’s going to play the part.”

John Cleese to star in new BBC sitcom

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cleese is set to star in his first BBC sitcom since ‘Fawlty Towers’.
The 77-year-old actor hasn’t been seen on the channel since the comedy, in which he portrayed mega snob Basil Fawlty, came to an end in 1979 but all of that is about to change after he secured a part in the new BBC2 comedy ‘Edith’.
John has been cast as Phil, an old boyfriend of the titular heroine (played by Alison Steadman), who dreams of marrying the love of his life and moving out into the sun.
BBC head of comedy Shane Allen told the RadioTimes, com: “It’s a huge pleasure to welcome John Cleese back to the land of BBC sitcom – his last one did alright.”
Not much is known about the sitcom but it’s thought filming will kick off in June.
John’s new role will no doubt bring him even more attention from the younger generation, which will unlikely sit well with him because he hates being pestered.
He said previously: “I do get very irritated by people who come up and say, ‘Can I have a picture with you?’ Now this is someone you have never seen before in your life, who taps you and says, ‘Can I have a picture with you?’ I kind of say, ‘What? To commemorate the fact that we met three seconds ago.’ I think it is the celebrity culture. So I very nicely say, ‘Sorry I don’t do that’. And sometimes I say, ‘I don’t do that but why don’t you ask the guy over there?’ Because if somebody went up to you in the street and said, ‘Could I have a picture with you?’ You would say, ‘Urgh.’ ”

Lee Ryan films his EastEnders debut

OHMYGOSSIP — Lee Ryan has filmed his first scenes for his role in ‘EastEnders’.
It was only announced that the 33-year-old singer was joining the long-running soap earlier this month but there has been no time wasted as he’s already shot his debut as bar manager Woody and bosses have teased that he will “ruffle some feathers.”
His arrival will hit television screens next week but details on how and why he rocks up in Albert Square and takes over the Queen Victoria pub while Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) is away looking after his daughter Nancy in Bulgaria are being kept secret.
Lee said recently: “Woody is the best role I could have wished to play.
“He’s a brilliant character and it’s clear he’s been leading a full and colourful life. I can’t wait for people to see what he’s like for themselves.
“Everyone at ‘EastEnders’ has been so welcoming. I know some of the cast already so I’m sure we’re going to have a lot of fun.”
And, although he’s only just joined the programme, it looks like the Blue singer has already proved himself as executive producer Sean O’Connor is impressed.
He said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lee to Walford as ‘Woody’ Woodward.
“Woody is a man who has worked hard and played hard in bars, clubs and pubs around the world and has finally decided to stop wandering and put down some roots.
“He’s going to ruffle some feathers and obviously break some hearts so there’s a great deal to look forward to as soon as he burst onto the square. Lee is a perfect casting for Albert Square and we knew straight away we wanted him for the role.”
Lee isn’t the only member of the boy band to have a career change as his band mate Duncan James is now a regular in the Channel 4 rival soap ‘Hollyoaks’.

Harry Styles felt 'naked' cutting hair for Dunkirk

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles felt “naked” when he cut his hair for ‘Dunkirk’.
The former One Direction singer was known for his long curly locks, and has said his shorter look took some getting used to when he was forced to make the chop for his role as a soldier in the upcoming World War II movie.
Speaking on ‘Elvis Duran and the Morning Show’ on New York radio station Z100, the 23-year-old singer and actor said: “I felt very naked. When I first told my parents I was going to be in a World War II film, they thought that I was playing a lady on the train station waving the soldiers off, so we had to make the chop. But it was good! It’s very breezy.”
The news comes after ‘Dunkirk’ director Christopher Nolan recently refused to answer a question regarding Harry – who released his debut solo single ‘Sign of the Times’ last week – and his locks.
He said when asked if the young star had any concerns about cutting his hair: “I don’t want to get into it.”
Christopher also spoke about why he offered Harry the role, and said the former ‘X Factor’ contestant beat “thousands” of hopeful actors because he had exactly what the casting team were looking for.
He revealed: “When we put the cast together, we had some established names. But for the guys on the beach, we really wanted young unknowns. He’s not that unknown, but he’d never done anything as an actor before. So he auditioned. I auditioned literally thousands of young men with different combinations of young men. And he had it.”
Meanwhile the 46-year-old director previously said the movie – which features an impressive ensemble cast rounded out by the likes of Oscar-winner Mark Rylance, ‘Taboo’ star Tom Hardy, ‘Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy and Sir Kenneth Branagh – will transport viewers into the heart of the the British-led rescue mission in 1940 in which 330,000 Allied troops were rescued from the clutches of the Nazis.
He said: “I wanted to tell the story in the most visceral way possible, I wanted to take that audience and put them on that beach.
“At its heart, it’s a survival story. The enemy is closing in on the British on this beach with no escape. I wanted to put the audience in the story.”
‘Dunkirk’ is scheduled to hit cinemas in July.

Benedict Cumberbatch portrayal of Richard III of England in ‘The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses’ has catapulted him on to the best leading actor list, while Adeel Akhtar, Babou Ceesay and Robbie Coltrane will also be nipping at his heels in the hope of bagging the prestigious gong.
Sarah Lancashire has bagged a nomination in the best leading actress category for her role in ‘Happy Valley’ but will go head-to-head with Jodie Comer and Nikki Amuka-Bird.
‘Casualty’, ‘EastEnders’, ‘Emmerdale’ and Hollyoaks’ have all made it into the best soap and continuing drama category but rival show ‘Coronation Street’ was noticeably absent.

Ron Howard to direct and produce Hillbilly Elegy

OHMYGOSSIP — Ron Howard is set to direct and produce ‘Hillbilly Elegy’.
The 63-year-old actor and filmmaker will step behind the camera to both direct and produce the upcoming contemporary economic drama, which is based on the 2016 bestselling memoir of the same name by author J.D. Vance.
The book tells the tale of Vance – who was born in Kentucky – growing up in the Rust Belt, which is an area of the United States from the Great Lakes to the upper Midwest where deindustrialisation has caused economic decline, population loss, and urban decay.
According to Variety magazine, ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ documents “the everyday struggles of America’s white working class as they navigate through drug addiction, and social and economic challenges.”
Thanks to his grandmother, Vance learned to appreciate his education which eventually helped him rise out of poverty.
Imagine Entertainment secured the rights to the book following a bidding war, and will send in the company’s president Erica Huggins and chairman Brian Grazer to produce alongside Howard.
Huggins said of the project in a statement: “‘Hillbilly Elegy’ is a powerful, true coming-of-age memoir by J.D. Vance. Through the lens of a colourful, chaotic family, and with remarkable compassion and self-awareness, J.D. has been able to look back on his own upbringing as a ‘hillbilly’ to illuminate the plight of America’s white working class, speaking directly to the turmoil of our current political climate.”
No writer has yet been confirmed to adapt the book into a screenplay, and as of the time of writing no casting announcements have been made.
There is also currently no expected release date for the feature.
Most recently, Ron Howard’s directing was showcased in the documentary movie ‘The Beatles: Eight Days a Week’, and in the mystery thriller ‘Inferno’, which starred Tom Hanks.
Howard previously won an Oscar for Best Director for 2001’s ‘A Beautiful Mind’.

Deathstroke creator: Joe Manganiello is perfect for the role

OHMYGOSSIP — Deathstroke’s creator Marv Wolfman has said Joe Manganiello is the right person for the role.
The 40-year-old actor is set to take on the role of the fictional super-villain in the upcoming standalone movie ‘The Batman’, and has now received the seal of approval from Marv, who created the comic book character for DC Comics in 1980.
Posting a picture of the pair to his Facebook page, 70-year-old Marv wrote: “After a great lunch with Joe Manganiello, I feel more confident than ever that we got both the Slade Wilson the movies need and the Deathstroke great movies deserve.”
Despite being the perfect person to take on Deathstroke, Joe recently revealed that he almost bagged the role of iconic superhero Superman instead, but filming commitments to his supernatural TV series ‘True Blood’ kept him from securing the role for 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’.
He said: “I met with Zack [Snyder, the movie’s director]. I had an hour and a half long meeting with Zack, which is what was causing all the trouble … I went ahead and met with casting, and then they all brought me over to meet Zack. I met the producers, I met with Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull at Legendary, I met everybody – everybody involved – and then finally sat down with Zack for an hour and a half and had a big conversation about the character and where it was going, et cetera. Then they called the ‘True Blood’ costume shop for my measurements to build my suit and that’s what caused – that’s when it stopped.”
Joe isn’t too disheartened about losing the role to Henry Cavill though, as he said he’s “very excited” to be playing a villain instead.
He said previously: “I’m very excited. I just started kung fu, qigong and cutting with a live katana blade. That’s been a lot of fun.
“I grew up rooting for the villain. These characters mean so much to so many people and there’s a real opportunity to polarise an audience or have them walk away maybe not agreeing with my character but understanding why he does what he does. That’s a really fun challenge.”

Pearl Mackie 'almost ran away' from Doctor Who audition

OHMYGOSSIP — Pearl Mackie “almost ran away” from her ‘Doctor Who’ audition.
The 29-year-old actress plays Bill Potts – the Doctor’s latest companion – in the new series of the iconic sci-fi series, but Pearl has admitted she nearly spurned the biggest opportunity of her career because she was so anxious.
She told the Radio Times: “Just walking through the foyer was nerve-racking.
“I rocked up in my Afro and bright yellow trainers and a baggy T-shirt into this big glossy octagon foyer and they told me to wait in a room till they were ready for me … I almost ran away.”
Pearl’s on-screen character is, in fact, the Time Lord’s first openly gay companion on the show.
And ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Steven Moffat recently admitted that a character like Bill has been “too long coming”.
He explained: “I think people would say, ‘Why the hell did you not get around to it earlier?’ – and I would absolutely agree with them.”
Steven said Bill’s sexuality is “not a major plot strand” in the show and he also admitted he was surprised by the amount of attention it had attracted.
Steven said: “This wasn’t, as some people thought, some kind of press release we made – it was just mentioned by Pearl in an interview. I didn’t even know it was happening. I saw it on the internet!
“It’s not a major plot strand. It’s not even a minor plot strand. It’s just there. She’s not ‘the gay companion’ – she’s Bill Potts. She barely bothers to mention the fact. It only comes up when it’s relevant.”
Steven, 55, also said it’s important to not make a big deal out of Bill being gay.
He reflected: “It’s important that we don’t make a fuss about this in a children’s show which talks directly to them.
“We don’t young children who are boring and normal and happen to fancy their own gender, we don’t want to make them feel as though they’re some kind of special case because that’s frightening.”

Jim Broadbent bemoans lack of roles for older actors

OHMYGOSSIP — Jim Broadbent has lamented the lack of on-screen roles for older actors.
The 67-year-old star has claimed that fewer movies are being targeted at the older generation, meaning that actors such as himself are finding it increasingly difficult to secure attractive roles.
He explained: “You get the paper and 13 new films are being reviewed every week. If you’re lucky, two or three of those would appeal to the older generation.
“Actually, there are far fewer parts for older people, so I’m now part of a minority for the first time.”
Jim revealed, too, that he doesn’t understand American culture – which has meant Hollywood has never really appealed to him as a working environment.
He told the Radio Times: “Occasionally I’ve been asked to do American roles, and once or twice I have, but I don’t understand Americans.
“I don’t have any real feeling for American culture. I do have it with British culture. I understand what makes us tick. To a degree.”
Meanwhile, Jim has also expressed sympathy with those Millennial actors who are, increasingly, being forced to accept on-screen roles purely for money.
The award-winning star explained: “We’ve been very lucky in our generation – peace, home-owning, pensions – all these things that youngsters now aren’t going to have.
“But there’s a political energy now, an anger, that hasn’t been evident for a long time. Maybe all this is part of something breaking – a system that has to break to come back stronger.”
Despite his gripes, Jim is set to star in a big screen adaptation of Julian Barnes’ Booker Prize-winning novel ‘The Sense Of An Ending’, while he will also appear in the seventh series of ‘Game Of Thrones’ later this year.

Gordon Ramsay snubbed GBBO

OHMYGOSSIP — Gordon Ramsay has claimed he was asked to do the ‘Great British Bake Off’.
The 50-year-old celebrity chef has revealed he was approached by bosses at Channel 4 after they snatched the baking series from the BBC last year but he turned down the offer because he didn’t want to be Mary Berry’s “sloppy seconds.”
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, he said when asked if he’d ever tame his wild ways: “F**k, no! Tell me if I am, because I’ll get the f**k out of here. I’ll go back to Channel 4. They did ask me for ‘…Bake Off’, anyway.
“I’m not very good at sloppy seconds. I don’t want to be the male version of Mary Berry. I’m 30 years younger and more wrinkly than her anyway.
“I think [as] with ‘Top Gear’, we have an asset that is a crown jewel within a network. 14.5 million [viewers]: there will never be another cookery show with that number, ever again. For me, ‘…Bake Off’ is like the Queen: it’s something to be respected, listened to and cared for. Not sold off.”
The 82-year-old baking legend walked away from the popular programme “out of loyalty” to the BBC just days after it was confirmed Channel 4 had taken over.
Producers were then tasked with the challenge of finding someone to replace Mary and work alongside Paul Hollywood – who agreed to stay with the show following an impressive lump sum – and, after months of searching, they secured Prue Leith.
Although the 77-year-old restaurateur was thrilled with her new role, she was forced to accept round the clock protection out of fear that she would be “trolled.”
She said: “On the day that they announced who the line-up was, they wanted to send a close protection officer. My husband and a bunch of friends were going out to dinner to a really nice restaurant in London. I said, ‘Don’t be ridiculous, we absolutely do not need a copper standing there looking.’
“But they said, ‘No, no, no, we really must just to be on the safe side.’ What did they think is going to happen? I’m not likely to be trolled. This is a nice family show.”
However, the ‘Great British Menu’ critic had no other choice but to accept the security measures after she noticed the protection team had ignored her refusal and had already pitched up outside her Cotswolds home.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ will return to screens later this year with Paul and Prue as the judges and Noel Fielding and Sandi Tosvig – who have replaced loveable presenting duo Mel and Sue – as the new hosts.
