Daredevil director to helm X-Force

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Daredevil’ director Drew Goddard is reportedly helming ‘X-Force’.
The Oscar-nominated filmmaker has signed up for the huge task in bringing the Marvel Comics story to life on the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are responsible for creating the story for ‘Deadpool 2’ which will see Ryan Reynolds return as the wise-cracking anti-hero Deadpool and the sequel will be responsible for introducing the military mutant squad created by Marvel Comics.
‘X-Men’ series producer-and-writer Simon Kinberg previously revealed that both Deadpool and Cable – who Pierce Brosnan is currently the favourite to play – will both feature in the ‘X-Force’ film.
He said: “We are working hard on New Mutants, ‘Gambit’ with Channing Tatum, ‘Deadpool 2’ and the new ‘X Force’ movie where Deadpool is alongside Cable and other main characters.”
‘The Grey’ director-and-writer Joe Carnahan and Reynolds have been penning the ‘X-Force’ script together.
The X-Force black ops group has at times featured Wolverine, Psylocke, Cyclops, Deadpool himself, Domino, Cable and Colossus among many other characters.
Colossus and Domino have also been confirmed to be appearing in 20th Century Fox’s ‘Deadpool 2’.
Previously discussing their responsibility to set up the ‘X-Force’ movie in the sequel, Reese said: “There is a responsibility we have to the ‘X-Force’ universe, and I do think we will not disappoint the fans going into ‘Deadpool 2’ and then setting up ‘X-Force’ and beyond … Its purpose is not to set up ‘X-Force’. It will likely set up ‘X-Force’, but the drive of the movie won’t be our eyes on movie three.”
Wernick added: “We never want to let the tail wag the dog. We want to tell the best ‘Deadpool’ story we can. But I do think we have a responsibility to think about a larger universe in the way that Marvel does and start to put pieces in place … but we want to avoid that responsibility to the extent that it hurts us. We want to hint at things, we want to plan some characters, and we want to make some nods, but we’re very, very cognisant about making sure that ‘Deadpool’ is above all a ‘Deadpool’ movie.”

Emma Stone played tennis ‘every day for three months’ to prepare for ‘Battle of the Sexes’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Stone played tennis “every day for three months” in preparation for ‘Battle of the Sexes’.
The 28-year-old actress portrays the 73-year-old professional tennis player in the production, which is based on the sportswoman’s 1973 match against Bobby Riggs, and although the red head used to practice the sport as a child she was forced to train solidly with former tennis ace Vincent Spadea prior to picking up a racket in the upcoming movie.
Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper, Emma said: “I was very much a novice. We played every day for three months, which was nothing compared to a lifetime for Billie Jean.”
Emma also had sessions with Billie, who likened her movements on the court to dancing.
She said: “Billie Jean said: ‘Your footwork is going to be great!’ She’d throw the balls to me and I could move really quickly and she’d go: ‘You move like a dancer!’
“We would do little pieces at a time and so they’d shout out my numbers and I’d go to the positions and do my forehand, or backhand.”
But not only does the ‘La La Land’ star think her physical ability doesn’t match the sporting legend, but she also thinks their appearances are very different too.
She explained: “The physicality was huge.
“Billie Jean has these big, incredible hands. Mine are tiny by comparison.
“She has this stance. Like a gladiator going into battle, ready to enter the ring. It was wonderful understanding what it would feel like to be in a body like that.”
And Emma has revealed not only did she receive tips on how to serve from Billie, but she also learned that it is “ok to still be figuring” your life out.
She continued: “You can be confused about elements of your life. You can not necessarily be — quote unquote — ‘fully formed’. I can definitely relate to this, because I have so much growing up to do.
“I learned from Billie Jean that it’s OK to still be figuring it out. That’s difficult for a perfectionist,’ she says with a wry smile.”

Doctor Who spin-off axed

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off ‘Class’ has been axed.
The BBC has announced that it will not be renewing the show – which follows a group of teenagers at a school in London where the Time Lord’s former companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman, worked – for a second season.
BBC 3 controller Damian Kavanagh told Radio Times: “There was nothing wrong with it. I thought [lead writer] Patrick Ness did a great job, he explored an amazing world. In all honesty it didn’t really land for us on BBC3; some shows don’t and I have to make decisions about what we’re going to do from a drama point of view, and what we did after ‘Class’ was ‘Clique’ which worked really well for us.”
Patrick wrote on Twitter: “I’m not an unopinionated man, but all I’ll say re the Class news is how proud I am of that show & how lucky I am to have had the opportunity. What a great experience to make it… Would that things were different (sic).”
He added: “Ah, thanks for all the love about this, you beauties. And as I’ve said, pity no season 2: Weeping Angels planet, shirtless wood-chopping… (sic)”
The first series of the spin-off left fans with a cliffhanger after the fan-favourite villains from the main programme the Weeping Angels plotted world domination inside the school.
The first episode got one million viewers but by the end of the season, it had dropped to 300,000.
‘Class’ starred Katherine Kelly, Greg Austin, Sophie Hopkins, Vivian Oparah and Fady Elsayed and was the fourth TV spin-off from ‘Doctor Who’ following ‘K9 and Company’ in 1981 and ‘Torchwood’ and ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’.

Carol McGiffin furious she’s not invited back to Loose Women

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol McGiffin is furious she wasn’t asked to return for Loose Women’s 18th birthday special – because she thinks she’s the reason the show is the “success” it is today.
The 57-year-old presenter – who appeared on the programme as a panelist for 13 years – couldn’t resist taking to her Twitter account today (08.09.17) to vent her anger over the fact she wasn’t invited back as a guest for the show’s big celebration.
When someone asked if she would be appearing today, she said: “Don’t be daft Aaron, I only did 13 years and over 1,000 shows, why would I even be asked???!!! (sic)”
The episode saw the likes of TV legends Kerry Katona, Sherrie Hewson and Karren Brady – who have all been panelists at one time or another – make a return to mark the special milestone as well a look through achieve footage captured over the years.
However, when a fan contacted Carol to ask why she didn’t appear in any of the footage, she hit back: “You’re not the only one who noticed….it’s not like they didn’t have a lot of material to choose from! #1,174shows (sic)”
And she’s particularly baffled because she doesn’t know what she did to annoy them.
Asked what she’d done to get the snub, she said: “Dunno. Maybe it’s because We (the old gang) left and the show stopped winning awards? Who knows? X (sic)”
Carol then decided to make a sly dig at the series by asking if they miss her.
She said: “Happy 18th Birthday @loosewomen hope you’re not missing me too much!!! #LooseWomen18 (sic)”
But she wasn’t the only one noticeably missing from the show as Denise Welch – who appeared on the programme from 2002 until 2013 – had also been cut out.
One fan said: “No mention of @RealDeniseWelch or @McGiff on #LooseWomen18? Odd when a show forgets those who made it what it is today. Shame.”
To which Carol replied: “Sad, innit? x (sic)”
And Denise, 59, added: “Thank you all for asking. I’m in Greece having a wonderful time. But no, I wasn’t asked to be part of @loosewomen celebrations.
“It was time for me to leave 4 yrs ago but sad to have been airbrushed when you share your life for 10 years @loosewomen @McGiff (sic)”

This Morning bird poos on sofa

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark-Neal has confessed he can only do a poo if he is completely naked.
The 28-year-old TV star was forced to confess his odd toilet problem after being quizzed about his loo habits by Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford as he presented his showbiz news section on ‘This Morning’ on Friday (08.09.17).
Discussing the disastrous Tinder date that has been in the news which saw a young woman try and throw her unflushable stool out of the window with disastrous consequences, Eamonn, 57, spilled: “Rylan has a toilet phobia.”
His statement forced an embarrassed Rylan to then confess the trouble he has when it comes to sitting on the throne.
To do a number two the ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ host needs to take all of his clothes off and his peculiar plop practice means he can only empty his bowel when he’s at home and totally at ease.
He said: “To use the toilet I have to be completely naked, I just can’t do it otherwise, it just can’t happen. This is why I can only go in my own house. I think it started as a child.”
A shocked Ruth then asked: “What all your clothes? Everything? Not even a sock?”
Rylan, 28, then answered: “Yes, not even a sock! Why are we talking about this?! Let’s move on and talk about X Factor please.”

Shirley Ballas ‘dropped to her knees’ when she got Strictly job

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas “dropped to her knees” when she found out she’d landed the Head Judge role on the forthcoming series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 56-year-old dancer will replace Len Goodman – who walked away from the show at the end of last year – on the panel when the ballroom and latin programme returns to screens later this month but she has admitted she never expected to land the job and lost control of her legs when she received the phone call from producers.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’ on Friday (08.09.17), she said: “I was at work in Los Angeles in the studio and the phone went and I excused myself from the lesson and I just dropped to my knees when the lady said we want to offer you the job. So many great people went for the lovely role… and they chose me with my credentials.”
And the brunette beauty is certainly ready for the role as she’s been having lessons with Len – who worked on the show for 12 years – in the run up to the series launch.
Speaking of the former Head Judge, she said: “Len I’ve known all my life, I did some lessons with him, he’s a friend of the family, he’s knows my children. He’s just an amazing man and he’s a fan of me and I’m a fan of him.”
But her role isn’t just limited to giving her opinion on the competitors as she’ll also have to make sure her panel – including Bruno Tonioli, Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel Horwood – are kept in line.
She added: “If I can just keep Bruno on his space… I reckon I’ll have to have good peripheral vision because I will be dodging and ducking.”
And, although she’s going to be a nice judge, Shirley won’t go easy on the stars.
She said: “No, no… no, because you come into the show, you understand about what you’re signing up for I imagine. I hope so anyway. They have several weeks to prepare […] I’m expecting quite interesting things from the very beginning. I’m not expecting them to dance like world champions. But they’ll come in and we’ll start to see who’s serious, who’s nervous. It’s a competition for me, I take it quite serious.”

Davood Ghadami partnered with Strictly newcomer Nadiya Bychkova

OHMYGOSSIP — Davood Ghadami has been partnered with Playboy Playmate Nadiya Bychkova on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor – who plays market trader Kush Kazemi in the soap – is said to be the envy of several of his co-stars on the Latin and ballroom show after it was revealed he will team up with the professional dancer for the forthcoming series.
A show source said: “Everyone has been teasing Davood that he’s bagged the dancer everyone else wanted.
“Nadiya is drop-dead gorgeous. Who wouldn’t want to dance with her. She’s also a top, top dancer having been world champion twice.”
The 35-year-old hunk – who has two daughters, Eva and Grace, with wife Isobel, 36, who he married in 2010 – and Nadiya are said to be pleased with their partnership, and he is hoping she will be able to turn him into a top dancer.
The source added to The Sun newspaper: “Davood and Nadiya found out earlier this week and are chuffed with the pairing.
“He’s got a lot to learn and hopes she can teach him a thing or two.”
Davood was the second celebrity to sign up for ‘Strictly’ and admitted he is looking forward to learning a new skill.
He said: “Having the opportunity to take part in this year’s Strictly is such an honour.
“It’s going to be exciting, challenging and terrifying all at once and I am so looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and learning to dance. See you under the Glitterball!”
Davood will follow in the footsteps of several ‘EastEnders’ stars who have taken to the ‘Strictly’ dancefloor in the past, including Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann), who won the trophy in 2010.
Other Walford contestants have included Tameka Empson (Kim Fox), who was last year voted out second, and 2015 runner-up Kellie Bright (Linda Carter).

Brendan O’Carroll lands new TV show

OHMYGOSSIP — Brendan O’Carroll has landed a new TV series playing himself.
The 61-year-old Irish comedian shot to fame playing busybody matriarch Agnes Brown in the hit BBC show ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ but now he is set to star as himself in a forthcoming panel show called ‘Tell Me Something I Don’t Know’.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The BBC are really excited about the premise. It’s set to be a lively family show, which sees contestants play games and answer questions. Bosses know that ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ has a fiercely loyal following who can be relied on to tune in to see whatever Brendan is getting up to.
“There’s hope it will become a staple entertainment show.”
The show will be produced by Hungry Bear Media, the same company behind ‘All Round To Mrs Brown’s’ – a spin-off to the main show – which is set to return next year.
An advert was placed by the production company and read: “We’re looking to create a fun, exciting atmosphere in the studio and will be inviting members of the audience to come down and take part in the gameplay.”
Recently, Rory Cowan – who has portrayed Agnes’ son Rory in the comedy for 26 years – quit ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ because he was “bored”.
The 57-year-old Irish actor performed with his co-stars for the final time at London’s O2 Arena back in July after handing his notice into creator Brendan (Mrs. Brown/Agnes) the month before, and has admitted he decided it was time to bow out of the production because he got “tired” of the same format and wanted to try something new.
He said: “What was killing me was we were doing the exact same arenas in the exact same order we did two years ago. I would have known week-by-week where I’d be until 2022 – and it’s not like they’re different every year, it’s the same thing.”

Nadine Coycle begged Sarah Harding not to do Celebrity Big Brother

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadine Coyle begged Sarah Harding not to do ‘Celebrity Big Brother’.
The former Girls Aloud singer tuned in every night last month to watch her former band mate compete on the reality TV show and, although the blonde beauty went on to win the series, Nadine has admitted she was completely against her entering the house.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she said: “I was petrified. She called to tell me she was doing it and my immediate thing was, ‘Don’t. Absolutely not. Why? Stop this immediately. Retract, retract. Don’t do it. Just don’t do it. We’ll go on a holiday. I’m going to Spain, come.’ But she wanted to do it. And Sarah’s you know, if she’s got it in her mind she’s going to do something, she’s going to go and do it.”
Before she went into the famous abode, Nadine was the only member of the girl group to wish her luck and Cheryl Tweedy even unfollowed Sarah on social media.
Nadine, 32, said: “I’m not surprised, no.
“If you don’t like someone, just be genuine abut it. You don’t have to be anything else. I don’t think Sarah’s surprised either, it’s to be expected.”
Sarah’s erratic behaviour on the show became the hot topic of conversation but Nadine regularly jumped to her defence to confirm she was being 100 per cent “natural.”
She said at the time: “Inside info on Sarah, she is a very natural being. She dwells on of her feelings & acts on them. It is what makes her so unique.”
“#nofiler was made for Sarah!!!
“Those of us who know & love her know that. The support from you guys will mean the world to her!! Xx” followed by three heart emojis.
And she concluded by saying: “If I was there, no one would DARE utter a bad word to her!!!!! Xx (sic)” followed by three angel and kiss emojis.

Mollie King is nervous about tripping over on Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Mollie King is petrified of falling down the steps when she is introduced for the first time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 30-year-old beauty can’t wait to slip into her sequinned frocks and bust a move on the ballroom and latin show later this month, but she just wants to make sure she nails the opening part with glamour and grace.
The Saturdays star says she is hoping to be paired with a “strong man” because she will feel a lot safer with a dancing professional who can lift her at ease.
Speaking during a BUILD session, she said: “This sounds so stupid. You know at the start when they say like “Mollie King” and you’ve got to wave at the top of the stairs. You’ve got to look glamorous.
“And then you’ve got to walk down the steps. I don’t want to literally just tumble down them and then like get up and rearrange myself.
“I just really want to look really graceful doing that bit.
“And I don’t want to forget the routine. But that’s why I need a strong man.
“I just need somebody to keep me going with the right moves.
“If he is holding me there and he’s got me, I’ll feel a lot better that I am not going to spin off out of control. ”
The ‘All Fired Up’ hitmaker was determined to make room in her schedule to appear on the BBC One show and seeing her bandmate Frankie Bridge – who was a runner-up in 2014 with partner Kevin Clifton – on the live tour of the show made her want to do it even more.
Asked why she signed up, she said: “Why wouldn’t you want to sign up to be honest? I’ve always wanted to do it and when I saw Frankie do it and then when I went to see her do it on the live tour, that’s when I saw to management “right, guys, we’ve got to fit this in the schedule somewhere.”
Other than wanting to lift the glitterball trophy, Mollie is loving the sparkly outfits and can’t wait to start learning some movies.
She said: “You do end up as a family for sure … I’m loving the glamour of it, the sparkles, the sequins, the tan, yeah I’m loving it. I can’t wait to actually learn to dance now. That’s the bonus.”
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ begins on Saturday (09.09.17) on BBC One from 7pm.

Chloe Sims thought she’d be married by now

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Sims thought she’d be married by now.
The ‘Only Way is Essex’ star has decided to take each day as it comes from now on because five years ago she predicted that she’d be in a happy relationship.
Speaking to new! magazine, she said when asked where she sees herself in five years from now: “I have no idea. Five years ago I thought I’d be married off by now.”
But the 34-year-old beauty thinks some of her lack of love may be down to the fact that she doesn’t like to date people outside of the show because it’s easier on camera.
She explained: “It’s easier and more convenient to have a boyfriend on the show. I’ve had to face most of my dramas by myself.”
And when she is feeling a little down in the dumps, the blonde beauty turns to her close friend Diags because he manages to cheer her up when she’s feeling miserable.
She added: “He’s the light of my life. You can’t be miserable around him.”
Meanwhile, Chloe set tongues wagging recently when she said she didn’t want Calum Best – who she locked lips with last year – to date anyone else.
She said recently: “I’m looking forward to [watching] ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
“I know a handful of people on it, which makes it even better. My ex Calum Best is on.
“He’s always doing dating shows, which gives me the worst nerves.
“I have this weird thing that I don’t want him to meet anything else.”

Gemma Collins has ‘given up on love’

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Collins has “given up on love”.
The 36-year-old reality TV star has admitted love is “not on [her] agenda” at the moment because she only ever end up disappointed when the romance comes to an end, although the busty blonde insists she has not become a “hater of love”.
Speaking to the Metro Online, the ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star said: “Love’s not on my agenda right now to be honest, I’m kind of over it, it always ends up in disappointment with me.
“I’ve given up on love. I’m not a hater of love but having a man right now is not on my agenda.”
Gemma is set to return to the small screen on Sunday (10.09.17) when the new series of the popular ITVBe show airs, and she has revealed her busy schedule makes it hard for her to date someone, and having to balance her career with her love life is a “hassle” she doesn’t need.
She explained: “And I have got so much work on that actually I haven’t got time for one, not one that’s going to mess me about either. I just don’t need the hassle in my life.”
Gemma has previously dated fellow co-star James ‘Arg’ Argent, who will also return to the programme this weekend, but she has vowed not to enjoy a steamy sex session with her former flame again because she has “been there, done that, got the T-shirt”.
She said: “People say would you sleep with him again – but no, we’ve kind of been there, done that, got the T-shirt etc.
“I know he got the a***hole because I came out and spoke about it and he really wanted to get back with Lydia, but you know it takes two to tango.
“So he’ll be back, we love Arg.”
However, the television personality thinks Arg’s mother has the “hump” with her and she fears in the forthcoming episodes she will have to make amends with the 29-year-old’s parent.
She said: “Although he said his mum’s got the hump with me, so I might have to do a scene where I go and see his mother.”
Gemma has also been linked to a mystery man named JD, and although she would be “very comfortable” taking their romance to the next step, she is worried the age gap may prove problematic.
She said: “I really like him as a person and I like the family, and I would feel very comfortable in that situation and I think as you get older you look at the whole picture.
“But here’s the thing, he’s 30, I’m 36, he probably still wants to go out and have fun.
“So we’re good friends we spend time together but I don’t know if anything’s going to happen there and I’m not going to chase it either. I don’t want to lose a good friend.”

And it isn’t just the magic of the main movie that fans will get to enjoy, as a brand new mini movie, entitled ‘Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’, is set to be screened before the feature on both days of the exclusive viewing.

Carrie Fisher’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi performance was ‘beautiful’

OHMYGOSSIP — Carrie Fisher gave a “beautiful and complete performance” in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.
The late actress tragically passed away in December 2016 when the upcoming eighth instalment of the popular sci-fi franchise – in which she reprised her role as Princess Leia – was already “deep into postproduction”, and the movie’s director Rian Johnson has said that although the editing team didn’t change her scenes after her death, there’s an “eerie resonance” to the context of her performance.
Asked if he altered the movie after her passing, Rian said: “When she passed away, we were pretty deep into postproduction. When we came back to the edit room after New Year’s, it was so hard. We went through all her scenes. I felt very strongly that we don’t try to change her performance. We don’t adjust what happens to her in this movie. Emotionally, you can’t help re-contextualise it, now that she’s gone. It’s almost eerie how there are scenes that have an emotional resonance and a meaning, especially now. She gives a beautiful and complete performance in this film.”
For the 43-year-old filmmaker – who is a life-long fan of the ‘Star Wars’ franchise – working with the late actress and her co-star Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, to be a surreal but “touching” experience.
He added to the New York Times newspaper: “It took a while before I could sit across the table with Mark and not, every three seconds, think, I’m talking to Luke Skywalker. With Carrie, I felt we connected as writers very quickly. She spoke her mind, man. They both did. Anyone whose life is that weirdly tied to a character like this, where you drop a script in their lap and say, ‘Now it’s this,’ there’s no way it’s not a discussion. But they were both so engaged in the process, and trusting. The fact that both of them at some point said, ‘OK, even if this isn’t what I was expecting, I’m going to trust you’ – that was really touching.”
‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ also stars franchise newcomers Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver, and is expected to hit cinema screens this December.

Jared Leto confused about Warner Bros. Joker plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto is “confused” about Warner Bros. plans for The Joker.
The 45-year-old musician and actor starred as Batman’s arch nemesis in ‘Suicide Squad’ and is to reprise the role in the upcoming sequel as well as in a spin-off movie with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) – both to be produced by the entertainment firm.
However, the studio has also revealed that Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese will produce an origins story based around the villain with ‘The Hangover’ director Todd Phillips holding the reins – and Leto will not be starring in it.
Speaking to Demand Entertainment, Leto confessed: “I’m a little confused too.
“I love The Joker. He’s a great character and really fun character to play. But it’s a big universe and when you play The Joker, there’s no ownership there.
“You have the honour of holding the baton for a little while and then passing it off. There are other films that are in development and I’m excited to see what comes from them.”
The Joker has been the most represented Batman villain on the big screen.
Jack Nicholson portrayed the Clown Prince of Crime in the 1989 film ‘Batman’ helmed by Tim Burton – earning himself a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, whilst the late great Heath Ledger took on the villain in the 2008 film ‘The Dark Knight’, a performance which won him a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Oscar.
Recently, Leto admitted he was “proud” to be in the DC Extended Universe and praised his co-star Robbie and said she was “one of the nicest people”.
Leto added about his co-star: “It was an incredible experience! Everybody was amazing. Margot Robbie, one of the nicest people, one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with. I really loved working with her. I thought the scenes, and what we did together was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set before.
“Everything’s great in that world, and I’m really proud to be a part of it.”

Will Smith shares image of cast of Aladdin live-action remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Smith has confirmed filming for the live-action remake of ‘Aladdin’ has started.
The 48-year-old actor revealed he was playing The Genie in the Guy Ritchie reboot of the 1992 Disney-animated classic earlier this year and bosses have wasted no time getting started on production as he took to his Facebook account on Wednesday (06.09.17) to post a selfie of the new cast on the first day of shooting.
Smith captioned the shot: “We just started shooting ‘Aladdin’ and I wanted to intro you guys to our new family… Mena Massoud/Aladdin, Naomi Scott/Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kanzari/Jafar, and I’m over here gettin my Genie on. Here we go! (sic)”
The impressive cast also includes ‘Homeland’ star Numan Acar who is reportedly set to play Hakim – head of the guards and right hand man to the feature’s villain Jafar.
Former ‘Saturday Night Live’ star Nasim Pedrad has been chosen to play new character Mara, a handmaiden and friend to Jasmine.
‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’ writer John August has penned the script for the musical movie, which is believed to be non-linear in its structure, something that is a hallmark of Ritchie’s early work on movies like cult British crime romps ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’.
The story is based on the Middle Eastern folk tale of Aladdin who is granted three wishes by a genie who is captive inside a magic lamp.
The 1992 original animated feature – which saw the late great Robin Williams voice The Genie – won two Oscars, Best Music and Original Song for ‘A Whole New World’.
‘Aladdin’ has also been turned into a hit stage show playing at theatres all over the world.
The movie is just one of the many films that Disney are rebooting, as new versions of ‘Dumbo’, ‘Mulan’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘Pocahontas’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ are also in the works.
