Phil Lord and Chris Miller to helm Artemis

OHMYGOSSIP — Phil Lord and Chris Miller will direct the ‘Martian’ follow-up, ‘Artemis’.
The directing duo have reportedly signed on to helm a movie adaptation of ‘Artemis’, the second novel penned by Andy Weir, who’s first novel ‘The Martian’ was developed into a blockbuster hit starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott in 2015.
Deadline first reported the news, and a source close to the production later confirmed the information to The Wrap.
Andy Weir’s novel is yet to be published and is set for a November 17 release date, but Fox and New Regency acquired the rights to create a movie adaptation back in May, following the huge success of ‘The Martian’, which was also distributed by 20th Century Fox.
‘Artemis’ follows the story of Jasmine Bashara – also known as Jazz – who dreams of getting out of her small town to build a better life for herself, except the small town in question is Artemis, the first and only city on the moon.
Jazz’s mundane life leads her to accept a life-changing and lucrative job offer, and she soon finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself.
For Phil and Chris, both 42, the movie comes as they previously quit working on ‘The Flash’ movie to take up the reigns of the highly anticipated ‘Star Wars’ Han Solo spin-off, which they also later dropped out of.
The duo – who previously found success helming movies such as ’21 Jump Street’ and ‘The Lego Movie’ – are currently penning the animated ‘Spider-Man’ feature, and have been rumoured to be returning to ‘The Flash’, although it’s unknown if this new project will replace their speculated work on the DC Extended Universe project for good.

The hit re-imagining of the Stephen King 1986 novel follows a group of youngsters who are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against terrifying clown Pennywise.

Although no casting has been announced for the adult sequel, 14-year-old Jaeden Lieberher – who stars as Bill the leader of The Loser’s Club – already knows who he would like to play his older character.
Speaking to Variety, Lieberher said: “I think Ewan McGregor would be interesting. I don’t want to offend him or anything, but he might be too old. I love Ewan McGregor, and I think he’s a great actor. I think he could play Bill very well.”
Recently, filmmaker Andres Muschietti revealed he wants Jessica Chastain to play an older Beverly in the ‘IT’ sequel.
The 44-year-old filmmaker said: “Jessi is an amazing actress and a very good friend and I would love her to play Beverly.
“She loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen.
“There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with, but it’s a bit too premature to say those names right now.”
‘IT’ – which stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise – is the highest grossing R-rated film of all-time beating the likes of ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Logan’.

Mark Hamill finds Star Wars intimidating and terrifying

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Hamill still finds ‘Star Wars’ “intimidating” and “terrifying”.
The 66-year-old screen legend starred in the original sci-fi trilogy as Luke Skywalker and reprised his iconic Jedi role in 2015’s ‘The Force Awakens’ and will play a major part in ‘Episode VII – The Last Jedi’.
Despite being in the franchise from the very beginning, Hamill revealed he thinks the franchise is “almost too high-profile” now.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Hamill said: “Everyone says, ‘Oh, it must be so fun coming back to ‘Star Wars’. Yeah, it’s fun but it’s also hugely intimidating and bordering on terrifying, because it’s almost too high profile for comfort.”
Over the course of his ‘Star Wars’ career, Hamill has worked with a number of different directors and for the latest film, Rian Johnson took over helming the production and Hamill said he never lost his temper.
Hamill said: “On something like ‘The Last Jedi’, it’s such a massive production. The complexity of it is just mind-boggling to me, and how Rian Johnson stays so even-tempered and amiable. I never saw him lose his temper, I never heard him curse of humiliate someone. You know, I’ve had directors that dress people down in front of the whole crew. I was so lucky to be able to have his guidance.”
The plot for ‘The Last Jedi’ has been kept a highly guarded secret but the film sees the return of Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Andy Serkis (Snoke).

Domhnall Gleeson confirms he will be in third Star Wars movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Domhnall Gleeson has confirmed he will be in the third ‘Star Wars’ movie.
The 34-year-old actor starred as the villainous General Hux in the 2015 J.J. Abrams movie ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, and will reprise his role in the upcoming production ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’, but recently admitted he didn’t know if he will be returning for the third instalment.
However, in an interview with The Times newspaper, Gleeson confirmed he will be returning in the third film after revealing he had to sign a “three-picture deal”.
Gleeson said: “Working on a film can be months, so you want to know what you’re doing. And with ‘Star Wars’ that applies more than anything, because you have to sign a three-picture deal. So, yes, I loved JJ’s work before that, and I was desperate to work with him. But why would I sign up for something when I didn’t know what it was? That doesn’t suit me.”
Abrams directed the first instalment of the new trilogy before Rian Johnson took over for the upcoming second instalment and eighth mainline movie, and Gleeson said Johnson has “brought a lot of himself” into the movie.
He said: “They just tell us to keep our damn mouths shut. Although what I will say is that Rian Johnson is a really interesting filmmaker and he’s brought a lot of himself to the film and that’s what’s going to make it different.”
‘The Last Jedi’ is set to feature a number of returning cast members, including ‘Star Wars’ legend Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Andy Serkis (Snoke), and the late Carrie Fisher as General Leia.

Andrew Garfield is looking for meaningful movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Andrew Garfield is always on the lookout for “challenging” and “meaningful” movie roles.
The 34-year-old British actor got catapulted to global fame by playing the titular superhero role in the two ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ movies and since then he has put in acclaimed performances in World War II biographical drama ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ and Martin Scorsese’s historical religious drama ‘Silence’.
Garfield admits his main ambition when accepting a role is the hope that it will have an impact on the audience.
Speaking to Time Out London magazine, Garfield said: “I’m looking for thing that are challenging and give something meaningful to the audience. If I can look at the majority of things I’ve done and say that’s the case, that makes me happy because I know that my heart’s in every one of them. What I’m looking for when I step into the cinema is a reminder of what’s important and what’s meaningful in life. Human life is so disposable now.
“This is a really sick time in Western civilisation, so I’m looking to be part of feeding an audience and a culture with something that thinks to bring us back together.”
For his latest film ‘Breathe’ – the directorial debut of Andy Serkis – Garfield stars in the real life story of paralysed polio sufferer Robin Cavendish, who defied medical opinion and survived until his 60s, despite being told he only had a few months to live when he was first left incapacitated by the disease.
Garfield admitted he was drawn to the film because he got to tell a “true story” about human beings.
He said: “I got to tell the a true story about the best of what we’re capable of as human beings: creating a community, taking care of each other and fighting for rights. Robin built a bridge between the disabled community and the non-disabled community, and reminded us we all deserve to live full and rich lives no matter what circumstances we live in.
Garfield had to wear prosthetic teeth for the role moulded from Robin’s son Jonathan, which helped in get into character for filming.
He said: “Robin had large, prominent upper teeth and Jonathan shares that with his dad. It did something different to my mouth and my voice, and it did something different to my psyche.”

Andy Garcia joins Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Garcia has joined the cast of ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!’.
The 61-year-old actor – who is best known for starring in ‘The Godfather Part III’ – has joined the highly anticipated sequel as an unknown character at the moment, Deadline reports.
Garcia will star alongside Meryl Streep, 67, Amanda Seyfried, 31, Colin Firth, 56, Stellan Skarsgard, 66, Pierce Brosnan, 64, and Dominic Cooper, 39, who are all reprising their roles from the first movie.
Jeremy Irvine, Alexa Davies and Lily James are also on board to play younger characters from the original movie.
Irvine, 27, will play the past version of Pierce Brosnan’s character, Sam Carmichael, and Davies will step into the shoes of a young Rosie Mulligan, who was portrayed by Julie Walters in the first film, with James playing a younger version of Streep’s alter-ego Donna Sheridan.
‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ scribe Ol Parker will be penning and directing the Universal Studios film, while Playtone Pictures, which produced the first installment, has jumped back on board for the forthcoming film.
The iconic musical focused on a bride-to-be Sophie Sheridan (Seyfried) trying to find her real father so that he can walk her down the aisle at her wedding to Sky (Cooper).
But she’s in for a shock when she realizes that there are three potential men that could be her biological dad.
It’s not yet known how bosses plan to push the story on but it’s thought they may decide to follow the angle of how Sophie’s mother Donna Sheridan (Streep) met the three men; Sam Carmichael (Brosnan), Harry Bright (Firth) and Bill Anderson (Skarsgard) in the years before the original story takes place.

David Oyelowo to star in Disney musical

OHMYGOSSIP — David Oyelowo is set to star in a new Disney musical movie.
The ‘Selma’ star will join forces with Moonlight’s Academy Award-winning writer Tarell Alvin McCraney who will pen a script for the upcoming project, titled ‘Cyrano the Moor’.
According to Deadline, the motion picture’s story will be a mix of two classics, ‘Othello’ – a famous tragedy written by William Shakespeare in 1603 – and ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’, an 1897 play penned by Edmond Rostand.
‘Othello’ tells the story of the titular Moorish general whose life is torn apart by his ensign Iago, resulting in the Venetian army man murdering his wife Desdemona.
Oyelowo is no stranger to the role of Othello having portrayed the part on the stage in New York last year alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig, who played villain Iago.
‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ tells the story of the titular main character, a talented poet and musician who has a large nose.
He lacks confidence due to his huge hooter and as a result he cannot bring himself to express his love for distant cousin Roxane.
In 1990, a film version of the play was made with Gérard Depardieu starring as Bergerac and Anne Brochet played Roxane.
Earlier this year, Oyelowo signed up to star in time-travel thriller ‘Only You’ in an unknown role.
The forthcoming film is to be directed by ‘Mean Creek’s Jacob Estes from his own script and will see Jeanette Bolturno, Jay Martin and Couper Samuelson executive produce.

Taron Egerton felt he was perfect for the Kingsman movies

OHMYGOSSIP — Taron Egerton always felt he was perfectly suited to starring in the ‘Kingsman’ movies.
The 27-year-old actor plays the role of Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin in the popular spy films, and Taron has admitted he thought his particular skill-set as an actor made him the ideal candidate for the role.
He explained: “I knew what it was going to be [perfect] in a sense. I had an instinctive feeling it was going to be something quite special.
“I remember feeling like you look down a path in life and everything is going to be conditioned by it. I felt like the years following the part went in a different direction. If I had ever felt a sense of fate it was in that moment. I believe in good fortune.”
Taron conceded that other, more famous and more talented performers were keen on the role.
But he felt that, in this particular instance, he was the perfect actor for the part of Eggsy.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he explained: “There were people that were every bit as good of an actor, some that are better and plenty that are more famous than me, but I felt like I was the person to play this role.
“I never apologised for believing that I was absolutely the right person to play this part.”
And Taron admitted he’s never felt so strongly about any of his other acting roles.
He said: “I just knew. And I’m not really anything like Eggsy, there was just something where I knew I needed to do it.”

Ore Oduba’s weekly dance lessons

OHMYGOSSIP — Ore Oduba wants to be a professional dancer.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ winner – who lifted the famous glitterball trophy last year when he pipped Danny Mac and Louise Redknapp to the post – fell in love with ballroom and latin when he competed on the programme that he’s still taking weekly professional lessons in the hope he can eventually turn it into a full-time job.
In an interview with the London Evening Standard newspaper, the 31-year-old hunk said: “I said during the show that I had to keep dancing and not waste this opportunity. Learning how to dance with the best in the world and then the show finishes – to discontinue would be a crying shame.
“I’m just trying to get better because this was more than just a show for me. I Iove dance and I never foresee a time when it won’t be in my life. I want to get better, I want to incorporate it into something I can call work, a career, somehow.”

Lord Alan Sugar: I made Piers Morgan a TV success

OHMYGOSSIP — Lord Alan Sugar thinks he’s the reason Piers Morgan has a television career.
The 70-year-old business magnate thinks the ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter owes him because he gave him his big break when he agreed to give him a spot on the ‘Comic Relief’ celebrity edition of ‘The Apprentice’ in 2007 to raise money for charity.
Speaking at the screening of the new series of ‘The Apprentice’ and Q&A, held at London’s Soho Hotel, Lord Sugar said: “It was me that launched his television career – seriously, absolutely serious.
“He actually phoned me up when he heard ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ was on, and he said ‘please can I do it?’ and that’s the first time he appeared on television.”
Lord Sugar fired the 52-year-old journalist for “winding people up” but he has claimed he later helped him storm to victory on the US version of the show to become Donald Trump’s “best business brain” in 2008.
He explained: “Afterwards, I coached him how to win the American ‘Apprentice’ – seriously, you should have been a fly on the wall when I did that.
“I was in Florida at the time and it was the live final that evening and I said to him ‘is it really live or is it a pre-recording?’ He said ‘it’s live’. I said ‘right, you’ve won. How you gonna win? Simple. You’re gonna put Trump into a corner where he cannot do anything other than choose you’. And that’s how it worked out.”
Lord Sugar and Piers – who are usually locked in war of words on social media – will come face-to-face next month when the multimillionaire appears on ‘GMB’.
He said: “I’ll be there on the 11th of October. I’ll get my boxing gloves ready. He hasn’t stopped talking about how he won the American ‘Apprentice’. It’s so boring. Susanna Reid yawns every time he brings it up and every time he mentions how much of a good friend he is of Trump, who incidentally hasn’t spoken to him since he won the election.”
‘The Apprentice’ will return to screens on October 4 at 9pm on the BBC.

Alan Halsall: Liz Dawn was like ‘family’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Halsall says the late Liz Dawn was like “family” to him.
The ‘Coronation Street’ star – who plays Tyrone Dobbs, the foster son of Liz’s character Vera Duckworth, in the ITV soap – has paid tribute to the legendary actress after she passed away on Monday evening (25.09.17) at the age of 77.
He said: “It’s quite daunting to come into ‘Coronation Street’ as a 16-year-old and then to be put with Jack and Vera, such iconic characters, so well loved. They were brilliant as actors and then you get to know the people behind the characters and learn to love Liz and Bill [Tarmey]. They were brilliant.
“Liz, first and foremost, was such a family person and that’s how she was with us on set. Off camera, we become like a work family. She was brilliant. She guided us so much as young actors, both on screen and off screen because she was such a beautiful person.”
And Alan went on to praise Liz for making him laugh time and time again.
He added: “Liz just had this amazing knack of being funny without knowing she was funny. She never knew what she said that was funny, which made it even funnier.
“We laughed so many times on set. Scenes that weren’t ever supposed to be funny in the scripts, we were constantly laughing. That’s the amazing ability she had as an actress and all that came from her as a person.”
And Alan’s co-star Samia Longchambon – who plays Maria Connor in the soap – felt so lucky to call Liz a “friend”.
Speaking to ITV News, she shared: “She was such a good friend and as Alan said, a mentor. She was my family and we obviously kept in touch when she left ‘Coronation Street’ and kept that close relationship so we just feel so lucky to have her in our lives.
“Obviously, it was an incredible experience to work with Liz, but to have Liz and call her a friend was even better because she was just such a beautiful, warm and generous person and I just miss her so much.”

Lord Alan Sugar: Celebrity Big Brother prey on ‘dead meat’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lord Alan Sugar thinks reality TV shows prey on the “dead meat” of ‘The Apprentice’.
The multimillionaire businessman isn’t surprised when he sees the losers of the show – such as last year’s rejects Jessica Cunningham and Karthik Nagesan – sign up to the likes of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ after their 10 weeks on television screens because their moment in the limelight is simply a “flurry” that will pass.
Speaking at the screening of the new series of ‘The Apprentice’ and Q&A, held at London’s Soho Hotel, Lord Sugar said: “It does happen and I think the fact of the matter is they have a little flurry afterwards and they just kind of fizzle out.
“The thing is when you appear on a television programme and you’re an ordinary member of the public – as they are – and then you see yourself on the television for up to 11 weeks and you’re walking around the supermarket and people start recognising you and their parents start recognising you and now you become a bit of a centre of attraction, there’s kind of withdrawal symptoms as when the programme stops, it’s like they do like all that, being recognised and stuff.
“If they’re a character, the producers of other programmes will pick them up and choose them – like a bit of dead meat – they just use them, play with them and chuck them out.”
But Lord Sugar’s aide Baroness Karren Brady doesn’t think the contestants sign up to ‘The Apprentice’ in order to get on television as they all want a thriving business.
She explained: “When they come on this show, they all want to win. They don’t come in to be on a reality TV show – they want what all those ex-winners have got: a thriving business, a future, most of them, this programme has changed their lives and that’s what they want. But when they don’t win that, they have to do something else.”
Although he’s aware what former contestants sign up to other reality TV shows afterwards, the 70-year-old business magnate doesn’t watch them on screen.
He quipped: “Claude [Littner, his other aide] does though.”
‘The Apprentice’ will return to screens on October 4 at 9pm on the BBC.

Coronation Street’s Rita ‘still has long way to go’ with brain tumour

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Barbara Knox has teased that there’s “still a long way to go” for her alter-ego Rita Sullivan following her tragic brain tumour diagnosis.
Fans of the long-running soap were concerned that the shop owner’s recent health scare would spell the end of the beloved character, but the 83-year-old actress – who has played Rita on and off since 1964 – has revealed that her character may not lose her battle with the disease but she does have a lot of “important decisions” to make.
Barbara said: “There is a long way to go yet in this storyline for Rita. As we follow her journey from the diagnosis to how she comes to terms with the uncertainty of what the future holds, she has some big decisions to make in coming weeks.”
And, although it’s a tough story to depict on screen, Barbara was thrilled when the soap’s boss Kate Oates approached her about the plans for her character.
She said: “When our producer Kate Oates talked to me about the brain tumour storyline for Rita, I was honoured to be tasked with taking on such an important story.
“I was determined to ensure that we got every aspect of the portrayal of such a devastating illness correct.”
And Barbara hopes the way she’s played the brain tumour storyline, which made fans initially think Rita has dementia, will help other people recognise the symptoms.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, she said: “Until I started working on this storyline, I had no idea that a brain tumour could cause someone to act in the way that Rita has been. It can’t just be me who was surprised by how it has affected Rita, so clearly not enough is known about brain tumours and their symptoms. It’s a frightening disease and my thoughts are with everyone affected by a brain tumour.”

Ruth Langsford’s Strictly Come Dancing nerves

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Langsford felt like her “legs belonged to someone else” when she was waiting for her slot on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘This Morning’ presenter made her debut on the BBC One latin and ballroom show on Saturday evening (23.09.17) but she admits her nerves got the better of her.
Speaking about her first night nerves, she said: “It’s like your legs belong to someone else … I ran into Michael Ball and he said welldone. And I told him, the terror, the nerves just completely got the better of me. And he said, you’ll never have first night on ‘Strictly’ nerves again.”
However, her professional partner Anton Du Beke insists Ruth is over the worst of it now.
He said: “Having done last Saturday night, that’s the biggest thing from the show going forward. There’s nothing like the nerves you get on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
“You think you’ve been nervous before – you think, oh in my life, I’ve been nervous – I promise you, sat on that sofa and when they go ‘dancing the waltz, Ruth Langsford’, she turned to me and went, ‘Who’s that?’ I was like, ‘It’s us!’
“There’s nothing quite like it but now you’ve done it, you can take it forward to next week … Unless you’ve experienced it, you don’t know how to deal with it and now you’ve experienced it, you’ll be fine next week.”
Having been on the show for 14 years, Anton is used to seeing how different celebrities deal with the build up to their performance and was able to assure Ruth that her feelings were completely normal.
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women on Tuesday (26.09.17), he shared: “It depends on who your celebrity partner is. Some people like to go first and get it out the way.
“Some people like to watch a bit and it gets them going. It’s always perfect position if you dance well. If you go earlier badly, then you have to sit through the whole of the show and think about it.”

Mike Nolan pretended to be related to Nolan sisters

OHMYGOSSIP — Bucks Fizz’s Mike Nolan pretended to be Coleen Nolan’s brother.
The ‘Making Your Mind Up’ singer made a joke about being related to the Nolan Sisters – including Coleen and her siblings Linda, Bernie, Anne, Maureen and Denise – but it stuck and for a long while, everyone was convinced Mike was related to the ‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing’ singers.
Mike revealed: “I’ll tell you what I said. They used to call you the Nolan brothers and then he said to me, this award should be picked up by a Nolan brother. I said, actually I’m their elder sister … Not that I did drag, what I meant was that you’re the Nolan brothers.”
To which Coleen retorted: “It was you not denying it! People were going, so are you related to them girls, and you said they’re all my sisters.”
And the 52-year-old television personality revealed it got to a point where, instead of denying it, she just went along with the mistake.
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, where she was interviewing The Fizz – Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston, Bobby McVay and Mike – Coleen shared: “But it stayed with us. And when we were on tour and you were on tour, you’d just had a massive hit single and people would go, ‘Oh your brother’s doing well, isn’t he?’
“It got to a point where I was so annoyed about going, ‘He’s not a brother,’ that I started saying, ‘Yeah, he’s doing great.'”

Anton Du Beke: Being a father is incredible

OHMYGOSSIP — Anton Du Beke says becoming a father is the “most incredible brilliant thing”.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star and his wife Hannah Summers welcomed twins – a boy and a girl – back in March and he just loves “every second” of raising his two children.
He said: “Anybody who has had children will understand, and you can’t explain it, but it’s the most incredible brilliant thing. I love every second of it. If I could get through the night without sleeping, I’d be happy to just sit there and look at them.
“I love everything there is to it. I love getting involved. I would get up and do the night feeds. I dance with them, I sing to them. We do everything. I love the bath time, changing them is great. It’s brilliant.”
And his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partner Ruth Langsford has revealed Anton will Facetime his wife and children at any chance he can get whilst they’re training.
Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, where she was joined by Anton, Ruth said: “When we’re training, every time I go to the loo, I come back and he’s Facetiming Hannah to look at the babies.”
Meanwhile, the 51-year-old dancer previously revealed the twins already have “two different personalities” as he admitted his “heart just explodes every time he sees them”.
He gushed: “I don’t know what it’s like to be a dad to a single baby, I know what it’s like to be a dad to twins, and it’s the best thing in the whole wide world, ever, I love every second of it, and they don’t feel like twins because we’ve got one of each, a boy and a girl, they’re just two babies.
“They have two different personalities already, I can’t even tell you, my heart just explodes every time I see them, I’ll miss them when I’m on the show, I miss them all the time. I just FaceTimed my wife so she could show me the babies and stuff, I miss them all of the time.”
