Paddy McGuinnes defaces Eamonn Holmes’ Manchester United mug

OHMYGOSSIP — Paddy McGuinness has defaced Eamonn Holmes’ Manchester United mug.
The ‘Take Me Out’ star will certainly be in hot water when the ‘This Morning’ host returns to present tomorrow’s (12.0118) brunch time show alongside his wife Ruth Langsford to find his ceramic cup – emblazoned with his favourite football team – spoiled after the cheeky comedian scribbled “BWFC” – to represent the Bolton Wanderers – across it.
Phillip Schofield – who presents the show alongside his co-host Holly Willoughby – stared at the mug as they kicked off Paddy’s interview on today’s (11.01.18) programme, before adding: “I’m looking at the cup that’s got Eamonn written on it.”
Paddy, 44, added: “Yeah they’ve given me Eamonn’s cup.”
Phillip, 55, replied: “You’re very honoured.”
But Paddy didn’t seem overly impressed about drinking from a mug that supports a football team that isn’t his own and he said: “But it’s all Man United. So I’m just going to alter things. I hope he’s watching this,” as he pulled out his pen from his pocket.
Phillip screeched: “He’s not going to be happy with you.”
Holly questioned: “What are you writing on there?”
Paddy said as he scribbled on the mug: “BWFC – Bolton Wanderers.”
Holly replied: “Oh my goodness me, he’s going to go mad.”
But Paddy was impressed with his artwork and said smugly: “There you are Eamonn, put that in you pipe and smoke it.”

Lauren Goodger’s whole face is ‘swollen’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauren Goodger’s “whole face is swollen” after she had a botched eyebrow wax.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star has been sitting with ice pressed against her eyes for the past few days because they’ve become so puffy that they’ve glued shut following an at-home hot wax that went wrong earlier this week.
Taking to her Twitter account this morning (11.01.18), she said: “It is mywhole face swollen .. much better than what it was .. im currently icing my eyes lol and the cuts clearing up .. I couldn’t open my eyes x (sic)”
The 31-year-old star has made no secret of the fact she likes to beautify herself on a regular basis – including fake tan and lip fillers – and recently admitted she’s thinking of having a gastric band fitted because she’s tired of fluctuating from a size 8 to a 14.
She said recently: “When I was doing my fitness DVD, I was so strict and I saw results. But I’m a sociable person and it made me miserable to stay in all the time.
“I fell off the wagon and I’ve put weight back on. I reckon I’m a size 12 now and I’m scared I might get bigger. I don’t know what else to do. Go back to the gym, diet, and hate my life? I’ve spoken to friends about liposuction or a gastric band. I’d do anything like that if it meant I saw results fast.
“I’m sick of yo-yoing. I know I can have the best body. I’m curvy and go in and out in the right places but I just need that head start.
“I’ve tried everything else so surgery seems like the right option.”
Lauren finds it tricky to lose weight because she feels like she’d have to stop socialising to stick to a diet.
She said: “I love my nights out. I used to be guilty of staying in a bit because I didn’t want to be photographed. But that’s not me. I need to socialise.”

Idris Elba starts filming S5 Luther

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba has started filming for the “explosive” new series of ‘Luther’ in London.
The 45-year-old actor – who plays DCI John Luther in the crime show – has admitted it feels “good to be back” in his home town and in his alter ego’s famous coat to shoot the forthcoming fifth instalment of the detective drama after three years away.
Idris – who spends a lot of time in the US now – said: “It’s good to be back in the coat.”
And writer Neil Cross has teased that the new series will be the “biggest, scariest, darkest and most thrilling” they’ve ever created as Luther and his new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday (Wunmi Mosaku) attempt to crack the case of monstrous killings.
Neil explained: “We missed John Luther. We missed some old friends. And we wanted to make the biggest, scariest, darkest, most thrilling series of ‘Luther’ there’s ever been. So that’s what we’ve come back to do.”
However, the new instalment won’t just see Luther crack a big case, the handsome detective must also face the ghosts of his own past and, whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him and change him forever.
Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, said: “It’s fantastic to have Idris Elba and the team back filming in London and we are thrilled that the exceptional Wunmi Mosaku will be returning to BBC One to join this already stellar cast. Neil Cross’ scripts for this fifth series of ‘Luther’ are explosive and fans won’t be disappointed.”
Hilary Salmon, Executive Producer for BBC Studios added: “There aren’t many shows where the first day of filming feels like an event but ‘Luther’ is certainly one of them. Thrilled to be in production with a new series of the show that has set the bar in terms of British television crime drama.”
‘Luther’ – a four-part series – will return to screens later this year.

Rylan Clark-Neal worries about job ‘every day’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark-Neal worries “every day” that he’ll be out of work.
The 29-year-old presenter – who shot into the limelight in 2012 when he took part in ‘The X Factor’ – has had a very successful television career over the past six years but has admitted he tries to take on as much work as he can because he’s terrified that he’ll break a leg and he won’t be able to make money for his family for a little while.
He said: “Of course I worry every single day – what if I break my leg and I can’t work or something? But fingers crossed things and touch wood, things are going well.”
And, although he gets excited when new opportunities come his way, Rylan’s husband Dan Neal – who he married in 2015 – makes him question the job before he accepts.
He explained to the Metro newspaper: “He’s my voice of reason. I’m in a lucky position where a lot of work comes my way and I’ll go: ‘This is amazing, I’m going to do it.’ and Dan asks: ‘Do you really want to?’ And I’ll go: ‘Actually yeah you’re right!’ There’s still that child in me sometimes that wants to everything I’m offered.”
Rylan has a jam-packed month coming up as he’s currently hosting ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’ and his new water show ‘The Wave’ will hit screens next week.
He said of the new series: “I’ll be honest, at first I thought it’s another one of those shows on water with people bouncing around. But when I saw there was a real game element to it and it wasn’t just who goes down the slide the fastest, I loved it. The release said it was one of the most dangerous shows and I thought: ‘What a load of b******s. Then when I turned up, I was like: ‘F**k it’s dangerous!”
And, although Rylan would like to see celebrities take on the challenge, he thinks the show will have to stick to civilians because W wouldn’t be able to afford the insurance.
He added: “I’d like to meet a celebrity brave enough. I don’t know if we could afford the insurance. I’d love to see those cocky celebrities.”

Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry set for reunion?

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Hollywood could be set for a reunion with Mary Berry on ‘The Great American Baking Show’.
The pair worked together on the first seven series of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ before Mary quit when the show moved from the BBC to Channel 4, and bosses of the US adaptation are said to be keen to recreate the judges’ British-based success across the pond.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “The Mary and Paul combo is a winning formula and American bosses are well aware of that.
“They saw how much of a success ‘Bake Off’ was on the BBC and are keen to recreate it.”
ABC Network President Channing Dungey is “excited” about how the US version is going and is hopeful about Mary, 82, joining the programme, but it is “depending on schedule”.
She said: “Audiences really get excited about the contestants and the way in which the show unfolds.
“The format is not that different from the British version but I think viewers respond to the hosts and the people we have here.
“We are excited about the way we are doing the show here in America.”
This comes after the third season of ‘The Great American Baking Show’ was pulled from air in December after Paul’s fellow judge Johnny Iuzzini was accused of sexual harassment.
The series had aired its premiere but it did not feature the remaining episodes and ABC announced the winner on its website.
Paul, 51, was making his debut as a judge in the third series having previously taken on the same role on the CBS version of the programme, ‘The American Baking Competition’, in 2013, but that was axed after one series.

Phillip Schofield thinks Holly Willoughby is ‘very bad influence’ on him

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield thinks Holly Willoughby is a “very bad influence” on him when they’re drinking.
The ‘This Morning’ hosts turn up to work the day after the National Television Awards every year with a stonking hangover following a night of boozy celebrations, and the 55-year-old silver fox thinks this year’s glamorous event, held on January 23 at London’s O2 arena, will be no different because his partner-in-crime encourages him to let his hair down and to get sloshed.
Speaking at the launch of Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo at the Royal Albert Hall, he said: “The last one we had no idea what was going to happen. The thing is if you plan these sort of things they’re never as good. We just go with the flow… and Holly is a very bad influence.”
However, Phillip has joked that he may not turn up to the awards this year because he’s up against Ant and Dec for the title of TV presenter of the year – which is chosen by the public – and he doesn’t think he has any chance of bagging the gong so he won’t do a speech.
He explained: “I don’t think I have a chance. There’s not really any point in me turning up. No. I certainly won’t think of a speech… there’s no point.”
But Phillip is just pleased that he’s been nominated for his own award – rather than with Holly – and is adamant regardless of who wins, they’ll still raise a glass or two together afterwards.
He added: “If one of us wins and the other doesn’t it absolutely will not ruin the drinking afterwards. The good thing about the category we’re in is that everyone whose nominated are all mates and we have all spent quite a bit of the summer in Portugal together so Brad [Walsh] and the boys, Holly and myself and all our families were there, so we all know each other really well so it’s really nice that the category is a category of mates.
“Ant and Dec have had a fantastic year and ‘I’m A Celeb… Get Me Out of Here!’ was as brilliant as always so you know they’ve got the best chance, but this is the first time in my whole life that I’ve been nominated on my own for an NTA so that in itself is great.”

Sam Gowland kept options open

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Gowland didn’t get in a relationship with Chloe Ferry straight away as he was “keeping his options open”.
The ‘Love Island’ star joined the cast of ‘Geordie Shore’ following his stint in the famous villa but whilst he’s incredibly happy with the 22-year-old television personality now, their relationship didn’t get off to the greatest of starts.
He said: “You know what it was, I went in there and for the first couple of weeks I was keeping my options open. Not in a bad way, but I’d just come in and I wasn’t going to put all my eggs in one basket, I just wanted to see what’s what. I did know I liked her [Chloe], but I wanted to get to know everyone else at first as well. But I knew she liked me because she started getting jealous, which is quite cute.”
But Chloe quickly fired back: “Right, don’t f**king show off because you got jealous at the house party when I was talking to your friends, so shut your mouth. He always has to sound like a proper lad, doesn’t he?”
And Chloe admits she was a bit of a “psycho and jealous” in the first few weeks of their romance.
She added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Obviously everyone knows now that me and Sam are together, but when you watch it, it wasn’t like that at the start – a love story – because there was a bit of a triangle going on. When that’s going on, everyone knows how much of a psycho and jealous I am, but this out of all the series this has definitely been my favourite and my happiest one.
“Obviously there’s going to be drama, but this is the happiest … You actually see me happy for once [on this series]. Well a little bit, at the start it’s a little bit rocky but you see at the end I actually kept my Prince Charming.”

Ore Oduba become a father

OHMYGOSSIP — Ore Oduba has become a father for the first time.
The 32-year-old sports journalist and his wife Portia welcomed a little boy into the world on Tuesday (09.01.18) and have named their “little blessing” Roman.
Taking to his Instagram account this morning (11.01.18), Ore uploaded a photograph of him cradling his new bundle of joy and accompanied it with the caption: “Cannot find the words to describe this feeling… Just thank you God for our little blessing. His mum is simply my hero. 09.01.18 the best day in our tiny family’s life. Roman, you are our world… and the world is all yours @portiajett (sic).”
Portia is yet to comment on the news but admitted earlier this month that she’s looking forward to 2018 because her and Ore have been blessed with the “greatest gift.”
Alongside a photo of her burgeoning baby bump, she said: “2017 thank you for giving me and @oreodubaofficial the greatest gift of all… BRING ON 2018! Happy New Year… #newyear #newbeginnings #newchapter (sic)”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ winner announced that he and Portia – who got married in 2015 – were expecting their first child together in July last year on Instagram.
Alongside a photograph of himself looking shocked as he held Portia’s baby bump, he wrote: “Not sure what I did to deserve this one. My best friend, the most amazing wife and soon to be the most amazing mum
“Been a pretty life-changing last 12 months, now @portiajett and I are preparing for our biggest adventure yet! Can’t hide our excitement anymore Starting a family has always been our dream. And no prizes for guessing.. THERE. WILL. BE. TEARS!!!! #babynews #pregnancyannouncement #tinydancer (sic)”

Olly Murs ‘practised’ for The Voice with reruns of the show

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs “practised” for ‘The Voice’ with reruns of the show.
The ‘Dance With Me’ hitmaker has joined the talent contest as a coach alongside returning panelists Jennifer Hudson, Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am, and to get himself used to hearing the contestants without seeing their faces, he used his own spinning seat at home.
He admitted: “You know, I practised at home. I put on last year’s show and sat with my back to it and spun around when I liked someone.”
The 33-year-old singer admitted he was “nervous” about returning to live TV following his 2015 stint as co-host of ‘The X Factor’, where he infamously announced who was leaving the show before it went to deadlock, but wouldn’t have taken the job if he didn’t think he could handle it.
He said: “I’m not going to say it didn’t cross my mind, because obviously that was a big moment in my career and I made a silly mistake – we all make mistakes at work.
“But this is completely different. I mean, of course I was nervous, I haven’t done live TV since, but I wouldn’t have taken this job if I didn’t think it was right.
“This is my chance to show people my opinions and give them constructive criticism, and not just be that cheeky chappy nice guy.”
While he has his back to the auditionees on the show, Olly – who is currently single – still can’t resist having a “little flirt” with the attractive hopefuls.
He admitted to heat magazine: “There’s obviously some attractive talent on the show but I have to be strictly professional. I’m here to coach them and find a star. Besides, Jennifer has me under lock and key. But I’ve had a little flirt or two – I can’t change who I am.”

India Willoughby slams LGBT community in Celebrity Big Brother rant

OHMYGOSSIP — India Willoughby caused tensions in the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house after claiming the men in the house would rather flirt with a gay man than a transgender woman.
The 51-year-old newsreader – who was Britain’s first transgender television newsreader – caused yet another rift between her fellow celebrities on the Channel 5 reality show on Wednesday (10.01.18), after she claimed the straight men in the house preferred to flirt with drag queen Shane Jenek instead of with her.
She said: “[The men would] feel more comfortable flirting with Shane because he’s a gay guy.”
Shane then quipped: “It’s also because of my demeanour. Not just because I’m a gay guy.”
In response, India – who is currently up for eviction – hit out at the LGBT movement, as she insisted the community has added “confusion” to her life and made her feel “drowned out”.
She said: “I think this is part of the problem being hitched to LGB. It’s the confusion element. I do feel that women like me have, sort of, been drowned out by the LGBT narrative that’s been going on.”
Shane – who is best known for his drag queen alter-ego Courtney Act – disagreed with India’s comments, claiming she wouldn’t be where she was without the help of the LGBT community.
He argued: “The LGBT has allowed you to be here to have this voice. The trans people were such a small part, one to three percent. And by lobbying, essentially, with the L, G and the B, and from 1969 to now, we now have an environment [where you] can be a news reader.”
That wasn’t the only bold claims made by India in the episode either, as she shocked her fellow housemates when she revealed she had been abducted by aliens, and was even able to provide proof.
She said: “I was abducted by aliens, seriously.”
The revelation didn’t impress former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe, though, who shut down the idea before giving India a chance to explain herself in more detail.
Ann said: “You were not abducted by aliens. You’ve got a very cynical audience, but tell us.”
India then continued: “I went to bed and I had this dream that I had actually been abducted, taken away, all sorts going on.
“And then the next day I woke up and these have never been explained – my mum spotted them – I have scars on my back.
“I’d never had them before. Nobody has ever explained them. They’re like lines.”
Fellow housemates Rachel Johnson and Malika Haqq seemed unconvinced by the claims, but India insisted martians were the “only explanation” for the mysterious marks on her back.

Martin McDonagh understands Three Billboards backlash

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin McDonagh understands the backlash of having a likeable racist police man in ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.
The 47-year-old filmmaker helmed the new comedy/drama starring Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell – who plays the racist police officer Jason Dixon.
And despite the film receiving critical acclaim, there has been a number of comments regarding Rockwell’s likeable character but McDonagh said the film isn’t “your typical Hollywood story about heroes and villains”.
Speaking to The Times newspaper, McDonagh said: “I understand what the backlash is about, the minor backlash that it’s having in certain places. But I just feel that it doesn’t really see the nuance of the story. This isn’t your typical Hollywood story about heroes and villains. It’s something a bit more messy and hopefully, more interesting.”
The film follows the months after the murder of teenager Angela (Kathryn Newton) and there is still no culprit.
As a result, her mother Mildred Hayes (McDormand) makes a bold move by painting three signs leading into the town with controversial messages directed at police chief William Willoughby (Harrelson).
When Willoughby’s second-in-command Officer Jason Dixon (Rockwell) gets involved, the battle is only exacerbated.
Both McDormand and Rockwell were nominated and won the Golden Globe for their roles in the movie and McDonagh admitted his lead actress was “the secret”.
He said: “Frances is the secret, to be honest.
“My other two films didn’t have a woman at the centre. But it’s not just that it’s a female lead, it’s that it’s such a strong one, and with such sadness to her backstory.”
Although not writing for a female character before in his previous films – ‘In Bruges’ and ‘Seven Psychopaths’ – McDonagh didn’t find it difficult because he is a man.
He said: “I don’t think so. But I do think that you have to think outside your male brain when you’re trying to write a really strong female character.
“If you’ve got empathy and humanity and some kind of skill then, hopefully, you’ll be able to come up with someone like Mildred.”

Christian Bale has regrets about Terminator Salvation

OHMYGOSSIP — Christian Bale wishes he could have “reinvigorated” the ‘Terminator’ franchise.
The 43-year-old actor starred as human race saviour John Connor in 2009 movie ‘Terminator Salvation’, which was due to be the start of a fresh trilogy.
However, the sci-fi movie received poor reviews despite grossing more than $371 million worldwide and the proposed franchise was shelved.
Bale spent up to eight hours a day with director McG when the film was being edited and he admits he has “enormous regrets” about the project.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Bale said: “I wish we could have reinvigorated [the franchise]. And unfortunately, during production, you could tell that wasn’t happening. It’s a great shame.
“There’s a perverse side to me, where people were telling me that, there’s no way on God’s Earth that I should take that role, and I was thinking the same thing. But when people started verbalising that to me, I started to go, ‘Oh really? All right, well watch this then.’ So there was a little bit of that involved in the choice. Do you remember that scene with Linda Hamilton where she’s going nuts in ‘Terminator 2’? We said, we’ve got to channel that at some point in the film, and that was the scene in which we were channelling it. Great lesson for me of, no matter how much you lose yourself in a scene, you do not allow yourself to behave that way. And yeah, of course, I’ve got enormous regrets about it.”
James Cameron created the ‘Terminator’ franchise with his cult classic 1984 movie and followed it up with blockbuster ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ – which when it was released in 1991 was the most expensive movie ever made.
However, the director was not involved in 2003’s ‘Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines’, ‘Terminator Salvation’ or 2015’s ‘Terminator Genisys’.
And recently a new ‘Terminator’ was revealed to be in the works with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning as the titular character – a T-800 killer cyborg – and Hamilton reprising her role as Sarah Connor.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but Tim Miller and Cameron are reportedly treating the film as a direct sequel to ‘T2: Judgment Day’.
In the original 1984 movie, Schwarzenegger played the villain but in the sequel his character was the hero.

Chris Hemsworth says Thor’s eyepatch is CGI

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth revealed Thor’s eyepatch is actually CGI.
The 34-year-old actor has portrayed the Norse God of Thunder in five movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and during the climactic battle in the third standalone movie, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, his eye is ripped out by his sister Hela – played by Cate Blanchett.
However, Hemsworth revealed the eyepatch kept falling off while filming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and eventually it was decided to use CGI instead.
Speaking to CinemaBlend, Hemsworth said: “It was … yeah, I remember being … with the eyepatch, the story unrolling, ‘Yeah, cool, this is interesting.’
“And then the day that we put the eyepatch on I was like, ‘This is ridiculous.’ The thing kept falling off, and we didn’t have the thing [gestures an eyepatch strap]. So it became a CG eyepatch, which I was stoked about. But I’m happy with that trade [for the wig]. It has its downsides. But the upside is that it’s an hour less in hair and makeup without the wig on. It’s a CGI one. Just four little dots on my face! Done.”
At the end of the third movie the titular character finds his home world of Asgard in ruins, and life isn’t set to get any easier for the character in the upcoming Marvel comics ensemble movie either.
Anthony and Joe Russo, who are directing ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, have announced the story picks up right where ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ left off, meaning the God of Thunder will still be picking up the pieces of his shattered home world.
Asked which character he was looking forward to seeing on the big screen the most, Anthony Russo, 44, said: “I’m going to pick Thor because Thor, we’re picking up his story from the end of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and at the end of that film as any fan would know his home planet of Asgard is destroyed, and so the character is in new territory so to speak, because his past has been torn away from him to a degree.”
The filmmaker also compared Thor’s storyline to that of fellow Marvel star Captain America, played by Chris Evans, in the Russo brothers’ first movie for the franchise, ‘Captain America: Winter Soldier’.

Karen Gillan wraps filming Avengers sequels

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Gillan has wrapped up filming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers 4’.
The 30-year-old actress stars as alien assassin Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is set to reprise her role in the upcoming third ‘Avengers’ movie, and to celebrate wrapping up filming, Gillan took to Instagram to share the news.
Along with a picture of a bracelet on her wrist, Gillan wrote: “After approximately one year of shooting, I’ve officially picture wrapped on ‘Avengers Infinity War’, parts 1 and 2! A monumentally inspiring experience. And thanks to the @therussobrothers our fearless directors for this badass ‘Infinity War’ bracelet.
“Now I must wash the blue from under my fingernails. For 4 days. #nebula #avengersinfinitywar #may4th (sic)”
The Scottish star recently revealed it is a painstakingly long process preparing for the movies as she sits in hair and make-up to get blue skin “stuck” to her face for numerous hours each day.
Gillan said: “I’ve been in there [Marvel Cinematic Universe] for a little while now, nearly five years playing this blue bald character.
“It takes four hours in the morning of having a skin stuck on my face.”
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will see the hero squad, which includes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Vision (Paul Bettany), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), join forces with the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ troop to save the Earth.
The two teams will have to work together to fight intergalactic tyrant Thanos, but they will also receive a helping hand from Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), as well as Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), which will mark the 28-year-old star’s debut in a Marvel production.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is slated to be released on May 4, this year.

Gary Oldman wants to work with Meryl Streep

OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Oldman would love to work with Meryl Streep.
The 59-year-old actor has starred alongside many greats of the screen over the course of his illustrious career, including Christian Bale in ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, Bruce Willis in ‘The Fifth Element’ and Sir Anthony Hopkins in ‘Hannibal’ as well as the plethora of stars in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies, but Oldman still has a list of actors and directors he would love to work with and Streep is at the top.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, Oldman said: “There are a few people on the list. I’d like to work with Meryl [Streep]. Never worked with [Martin] Scorsese.”
Oldman can currently be seen alongside Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James in ‘The Darkest Hour’ as World War II British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and at the weekend he won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama prize at the Golden Globes and he has also been nominated for the Leading Actor gong at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.
He said: “It’s not something I think about. Understanding [why] is the booby prize. Don’t even waste your energy trying.”
‘The Darkest Hour’ – which was helmed by Joe Wright – tells the story at the beginning of World War II as within days of becoming Prime Minister, Churchill must face one of his most turbulent and defining moments of the conflict: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, which could guarantee Britain’s independence and that of the Commonwealth.
As the Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion of the UK, Churchill must resist attempts by his own political party and an initially sceptical King George VI, to stand firm against the dangers facing his country and not buckle to the Nazis.
Although the iconic Prime Minister has been played before by the likes of Robert Hardy, Albert Finney and Richard Burton, Oldman admitted he was in “good hands” with filmmaker Wright.
He said: “I knew I was in good hands with Joe and then going back to the source material … it’s trying to put all that noise away and looking at the man. And what’s the worst that could happen? They’re not going to shoot me.”

Woody Harrelson wasn’t a big fan of Star Wars

OHMYGOSSIP — Woody Harrelson wasn’t “fanatical” about ‘Star Wars’ before accepting a role in the upcoming Han Solo spin-off movie.
The 56-year-old actor plays mysterious character Beckett in ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and when he first began filming he was shocked by the levels of secrecy on set as he wasn’t familiar with the obsessed fandom that surrounds the franchise.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Harrelson said: “I wasn’t fanatical but I did like ‘Star Wars’. And I thought it was cool to get to be a part of it. But I’ve never seen a more secretive group on my life. Literally, you can’t say anything. Instead of a script you get an encrypted e-reader. And off the set you cover yourself with a cloak because they don’t want your outfit to be seen in case a drone flies over.”
The movie – which has been helmed by Oscar winner Ron Howard – will focus on a younger version of the titular character Han Solo, with Alden Ehrenreich taking over the iconic role from Harrison Ford.
Han and Chewbacca will be seen first meeting Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) and they will also encounter Harrelson’s alter ego, who is believed to be a mentor to young Han who guides him on his journey to becoming an intergalactic criminal.
Harrelson can currently be seen starring alongside Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell in Martin McDonagh’s new movie ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.
The film has received universal critical acclaim and both McDormand and Rockwell won a Golden Globe for their performance in the black comedy.
But Harrelson said he never puts any thought into accolades when making a film he just wants to do the best job he can.
He said: “I don’t even put one moment of thought into that. All you can really hope for is that you make a great movie. The odds are stacked against you. So many things have got to converge to make it happen. After that you’ve got no control.”
