X Factor’s Grace Davies gets signed to Syco

OHMYGOSSIP — X Factor’s Grace Davies has reportedly been signed to Simon Cowell’s record label.
The 20-year-old star may have come second on the singing show last year – after Rak-Su took the champion spot – but the music mogul has seen huge potential in her and has agreed to sign her to his company Syco to release an original album.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Grace’s talent shone through on ‘X Factor’ – not only as a singer but as an excellent songwriter in her own right. Everyone is really excited about what she is going to be doing next. There is a genuine buzz around her and Syco weren’t going to let anyone else get the chance to sign her.”
Grace built up a huge fan base when she took part in the singing competition last year and she even managed to win over the heart of Robbie Williams.
The ‘Candy’ hitmaker sent the wannabe pop star a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a good luck charm before she competed in the final in December.
Speaking at the time, Grace said: “I got some flowers from Robbie Williams last night. I did, yeah. I’m like his biggest fan. I cried. Absolutely cried.”
Asked whether the flowers came with a note, Grace added: “Yeah, it just said: ‘Grace, babe you’re amazing, good luck in the final, Robbie.’ and I was like: ‘stop, stop.’ ”
Meanwhile, Simon, 58, also has high hopes for Rak-Su and is convinced they may become the new One Direction – who finished third in the 2010 series of the show, have gone on to sell more than 70 million records and in 2016 Forbes magazine listed them as the second-highest earning celebrities in the world – in the future.
He said recently: “There’s an awful lot of artists in entertainment who appear nice in front of the cameras but behind them they’re monsters.
“Not these guys. These guys have that same thing as 1D, a certain class.
“The group are so important to the show for that reason. When you have people like these guys who have ambition it’s great and there’s this wonderful afterglow.”

Amber Dowding gets TOWIE axe over ‘happy’ relationship

OHMYGOSSIP — Amber Dowding has hinted she was sacked from ‘The Only Way is Essex’ because she’s “happy” with Chris Clark and had no drama to bring to the show anymore.
The 24-year-old reality TV star has confirmed that she and her beau are among the seven cast mates to get the axe from the forthcoming series of the programme and, although she’s stressed she has nothing but “respect for the crew”, she’s implied that producers decided to drop her because she had no exciting storylines to bring.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: “We had a meeting and it was a mutual feeling that it was time to move on. I’ve got nothing but respect for the cast and crew.
“Chris and I are in a really good place. We all come to a time in our lives when you’re looking for what is coming next. I’ll miss the people on the show, I have genuine friends on ‘TOWIE’. Like Tommy and Georgia – they’re my genuine friends. I’ll miss seeing them on screen but I see them all the time anyway. In fact, there’s nothing I won’t NOT miss, but I’m looking forward to what’s coming next.”
However, the blonde beauty is adamant the door isn’t closed forever and producers have left the door open for her in case she wants to return in the future.
She explained: “That door isn’t closed forever – there is room to go back but for now it’s not for us. It wasn’t awkward and there are no hard feelings.”
And Amber is hopeful that other jobs in television will come her way now that she’s walked away from ‘TOWIE’ – but she’ll only accept challenging gigs from now on.
She added: “If I did more reality TV it would have to be something that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’d want to face my fears. I’d love to do ‘Bear Grylls The Island’ or ‘I’m A Celebrity…’. Something that would really challenge me.”

Louis Walsh wants Cheryl Tweedy to return to X Factor

OHMYGOSSIP — Louis Walsh wouldn’t mind if Cheryl Tweedy returned to ‘The X Factor’.
The Irish music manager hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with the ‘Call My Name’ hitmaker since he labelled her former band Girls Aloud “fat” over a decade ago, but the pair have seemingly buried the hatchet as he has admitted he wouldn’t have any issues with the brunette beauty if she were to reclaim her judging job on the singing show.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “If Cheryl comes back that’s fine. Look, we would agree to disagree on certain things but that’s what makes it good. We all get on.”
However, the 65-year-old judge has admitted he’d rather have Nicole Scherzinger – who has sat on the panel for the past two consecutive years – beside him when the show returns to screens this year because she has such a “strong work ethic.”
He explained: “Nicole is my favourite because of her work ethic. She just gets into it and you never know what she’s going to say, do or wear. That’s why I love her because she brings a whole new energy to it.”
Cheryl, 34, made a brief return to the show for Simon Cowell’s Judges Houses last year and wants her seat on the panel back permanently, but the 58-year-old music mogul is a little torn as he really likes the current judging line up, which includes himself, Louis, Nicole and Sharon Osbourne.
And, in order to satisfy everyone, he’s considering a five-piece panel this year.
He said recently: “Nothing’s a done deal and I do like this panel. But the good news is that now more people want to do the show than before. Is Cheryl keen to come back? She is, yes – I guess she is.
“I think I’ll go into the New Year and then see how everyone feels. In the past, I’ve had to beg people to do the show, and it wasn’t always that easy. People would do it for a season, and say, ‘Right, I’m not coming back.’ But now it’s easier to do the show, it’s much more fun. Maybe I’ll have five people on the panel.”

Samia Longchambon ‘breaks down’ when she sees footage of dead dog

OHMYGOSSIP — Samia Longchambon “breaks down in tears” when she watches old videos of her dead dog.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who plays Maria Connor in the long-running soap – was left devastated last year when her beloved pet pooch Sonny passed away and she has admitted it’s still a sensitive subject for her and she can’t help but well up when she sees clips of him alive.
She explained: “It was a funny old year, really, he was like my baby. I’d had him since I was 23. He went through the highs and lows of the past 11 years with me.
“He was the one little constant in my life and I always had Sonny by my side. Apart from losing my dad, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through. It was heartbreaking.”
Samia’s husband Sylvain Longchambon added: “He was one of the family and slept on Sam’s pillow every night.”
The brunette beauty said: “If we watch videos of him now, we still break down in tears. He was amazing with the kids. We have his picture up in the lounge so we see him every day.”
And, although they’re not thinking about getting another dog at the moment, the couple – who got married in 2016 – aren’t planning to add any more children to their brood, currently comprised of Freya, seven, and Yves, two, and will get another furry friend before having another baby.
Samia, 35, said: “We’re happy with our lot. We definitely don’t want to be outnumbered.”
Sylvain, 37, added to OK! magazine: “We’ll have another dog before we have another kid – and that’s not even on the cards.”

Holly Willoughby wants to ‘pause’ career

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby wants to “pause” her career.
The 36-year-old presenter has just reprised her hosting role on ‘Dancing on Ice’, is a team leader on ‘Celebrity Juice’ and fronts ‘This Morning’ from Monday through to Friday every week but, although she loves her television jobs, she has admitted she won’t be taking on anymore work as she wants to focus on her children Harry, eight, Belle, six, and Chester, three, because they’ll need her even more the older they get.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, she said: “I don’t really want to do more, I just want to pause everything and keep everything as is. Work is in a really lovely place and I’m really happy with ‘This Morning’.
“My biggest challenge over the next few years will be parenting my children as they get older. When they’re babies you’re constantly thinking about making sure they’re feeding right, that they get to those milestones, that they get to school.
“And then suddenly, as they get older, it’s their characters that are starting to build and I realise more than ever the weight of responsibility of making sure they turn out to be really good, kind human beings. My main focus over the next few years is churning out three very grounded, normal, happy, content children, teenagers and adults, eventually. That’s my greatest job I’ll ever do.”
But, luckily for Holly, she’s able to share her parental duties with her husband Daniel Baldwin – who she married in 2007 – so that both of them can continue to work.
She explained: “Marriage is something you have to look after and work at. It’s really important to do that and I’m very lucky that I count Dan as one of my best friends — he’s also a friend that I think is quite hot.
“If you get on and have the same interests, it makes the difficult times easier because you’re both approaching it from the same angle.
“So I’m very lucky, that’s all I can say. I never take him for granted, I really don’t, because I imagine it’s not easy at times but we do have a real understanding of one another. And he makes me laugh and that’s really important.”

Josie Gibson can’t sleep after attack

OHMYGOSSIP — Josie Gibson can’t sleep after she was allegedly attacked after a night out.
The 32-year-old TV star recently revealed on Twitter she’d been left with a bruised face after she ordered a man to get out of a taxi he was sharing with her and her friend after he sexually assaulted her pal on the way home from a New Year’s night out, and she admitted she’s still traumatised by the altercation.
She aid: “I haven’t slept in two days. It’s been absolutely horrific, we’re so upset.
“I still can’t believe it actually happened.”
Josie explained she and her friend asked the taxi to pull over when the man put his hand up her pal’s skirt, and the guy then started to “violently punch” her companion, before striking her when she tried to intervene.
And the former Big Brother’ winner is still suffering the effects of the blows she received.
She said: “I’ve felt faint and had a constant headache since it happened. I’ve got a huge black eye too. But my poor friend had it worse, she’s been in hospital and is traumatised.”
Josie was left even more upset when she posted pictures of her injuries and details of her ordeal on social media and received a number of abusive messages from cruel trolls.
She said: “I’ve had people saying I’ve made it up, that I drew the bruise on my face myself. I’ve been told I’m a crack addict and called every name under the sun.
“I’ve even had threats made towards me. It’s absolutely sick. Most of these comments have been from other women too, which is so sad.
“It’s made me wary of leaving the house. But why should I be intimidated and threatened into not standing up and speaking out.”
The terrifying encounter brought back traumatic memories for Josie of her own difficult childhood.
She told Closer magazine: “My brother’s father was extremely violent towards my mum for years. I have so many horrible memories of the violence I saw in my own home. He’d beat my mum regularly and I’d even have to call ambulances for her when it was particularly bad.”
Avon and Somerset police have confirmed they are investigating the incident.

India Willoughby evicted from Celebrity Big Brother

OHMYGOSSIP — India Willoughby has become the first person to leave the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house.
The newsreader – who is Britain’s first transgender television newsreader – found herself up for eviction alongside Johnny Mitchell earlier this week, but during Friday’s (12.01.18) live show it was revealed she had been unpopular with the public, who voted to boot her from the infamous abode.
Speaking to host Emma Willis after her eviction, she said: “I had so much more to offer, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles. It is like a hurdles race, there are obstacles in the house. I think I hit a really big one with the gender question.”
The 51-year-old star wasn’t shocked by the result though, as she had predicted her eviction whilst speaking in the Diary Room earlier in the programme.
India claimed she had “c**ked up” her time in the house after being the centre of a number of rows, including claiming she had a “phobia” of drag queens whilst in the presence of drag artist Shane Jenek – better known by his alter-ego Courtney Act.
She said: “My gut feelings are that I will probably be climbing that staircase. I think I’ve c**ked it up big time, those early outbursts have cost me.
“I’m annoying the housemates and it’s just becoming a bit embarrassing. I’m not an embarrassment on the outside. I have got good bants, I can chat. I think people see me as a Big Brother corpse at the moment.
“I’d really really like to stay, its always been my dreams to be on the show, nobody wants to be the first to go. I’m trying to get on with people, I even made up with Amanda. I should have come in and kept my gob shut, it was pointless kidding myself and I know that.”
‘Celebrity Big Brother’ continues daily at 9pm on Channel 5.

Natalie Portman in talks to star in Pale Blue Dot

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman is in negotiations to replace Reese Witherspoon in ‘Pale Blue Dot’.
The 36-year-old actress is being eyed to replace Reese, who walked away from the role in the Noah Hawley-directed movie in November last year due to a scheduling conflict.
‘Pale Blue Dot’ tells the story of an American astronaut, whose life starts to come apart after she returns home from a mission to her seemingly perfect life, according to Variety.
The movie – which is based on a script by Brian C Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi – centres on the idea that astronauts can lose touch with reality after spending lengthy periods of time in space.
Natalie has been working in Hollywood since she was a child, but the Academy Award-winning actress previously revealed that her dad was keen for her to pursue another path.
The brunette beauty studied at Harvard University, and her father Avner was keen for her to consider a career in academia.
Natalie previously explained: “I came from such a serious, academic family, where the only thing that was acceptable was to be very literate and educated – you become a professor or a doctor or a lawyer.
“My dad pulled me aside when I was 25 and was like, ‘I think it’s time for you to go to law school or grad school.’ Not that he was saying that acting was bad, but more that he was like, ‘I think you’ll be more fulfilled if you have something more – like a life of the mind.'”
Natalie admitted she was torn at one point about what to do with her career.
She said: “It took me a while, coming from that background [as a child actor before realising], ‘This is what I want, and this is what I love. I enjoy this.'”

Armie Hammer: Working with David Fincher is like a marathon

OHMYGOSSIP — Armie Hammer says working with director David Fincher is like running a marathon.
The 31-year-old actor worked with the acclaimed moviemaker on the 2010 hit ‘The Social Network’ and Armie admits it was an invaluable experience for a young actor like himself.
He explained: “It’s the first race you ever run is a marathon, and then every other 10K you run after that seems a little bit easier, you know?”
Armie worked with Italian-Algerian director Luca Guadagnino on the romantic drama film ‘Call Me by Your Name’, which also stars Timothee Chalamet.
And Armie has praised the director, saying he created one of the best on-set atmospheres he’s ever experienced.
He told Collider: “Luca intentionally fostered an environment that felt relaxing, and just languorous, and just enjoyable.
“It was one of the easiest feeling movies that we’ve ever worked on because Luca intentionally kept the vibe on set really relaxed and really true to the tone of the movie.”
Meanwhile, Armie also revealed he relishes the experience of making independent movies, because he’s afforded more freedom.
He reflected: “The thing about blockbusters is they’re movies made by formula. There are entire companies and corporations that are dedicated to figuring out what they think the audience wants, and what they’ve got to do for the movie, and all that stuff.
“Whereas a movie like ‘Call Me by Your Name’ doesn’t really have anyone doing that. It just lives and dies on its own artistic merit. You don’t have a lot of cooks in the kitchen. You don’t have a lot of downtime.
“You’re just kind of making this work, and going through it, and it’s a really great experience, to feel like you’re just plugged into the process of making a movie, as opposed to making something that if it doesn’t make $800 million, at least, then it’s a failure.”

Guillermo del Toro predicts change ahead for Hollywood

OHMYGOSSIP — Guillermo del Toro wasn’t offended when Natalie Portman called out the lack of female directors nominated at the Golden Globes.
As she introduced the nominations at the award show on Sunday (07.01.18), Portman referred to the “all male nominees” but Del Toro, who picked up the prize for helming ‘The Shape of Water’, thinks it marks a positive change ahead for Hollywood.
Speaking about female directors like Greta Gerwig and Patty Jenkins, who didn’t receive nominations in the Best Director category at the Golden Globes, Del Toro said: “I love them. What this season has told us is it’s time for everyone to say what they think, so let’s do it.”
Del Toro also picked up the Best Director award at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday (11.01.18) and is thrilled with all the success ‘The Shape of Water’ is having.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight backstage, he shared: “You take it in strides beautifully. When it happens, it’s great. Now, it doesn’t happen every time, so you learn not to go a little crazy. It’s beautiful.”
In his Golden Globes speech, Del Toro thanked a “few fantastic women” who he had worked with on the movie.
He told the audience: “I want to mention a few fantastic women sitting on this table. Sharon, Nancy, Ofelia, Sally, Kimmy and Vanessa. Without whom I wouldn’t be here … For 25 years I have handcrafted very strange little tales made of motion, colour, light and shadow. In three precise instances, these strange stories, these fables, have saved my life. Once with ‘Devil’s Backbone’, once with ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, and now with ‘Shape of Water’, because as directors, these things are not just entries in a filmography. We have made a deal with a particularly inefficient devil that trades three years of our lives for one entry on IMDb. And these things are biography and they are alive.”
The 2018 award season has been very successful for Del Toro and ‘The Shape Of Water’, with the movie leading the majority of nominations and also scooping a number of top prizes too.

Dame Helen Mirren won’t play the Queen again

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Helen Mirren won’t ever play Queen Elizabeth II again as she doesn’t want to be remembered as the monarch.
The 72-year-old actress has drawn the line at playing the British monarch twice as she worries people will think she and the Queen are the same person.
She said: “I wanted to kind of get away from that. I like to move forward, not back. It’s wonderful that I [portrayed Queen Elizabeth twice], it was wonderful that it was a success, but I didn’t want a headline when I’m knocked over by a bus to read ‘The Queen Knocked Over by Bus.'”
And Mirren absolutely loves Claire Foy’s portrayal of a young queen in the television series ‘The Crown’.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres show, she added: “I think the show is incredibly accurate. I think Claire Foy was brilliant. I sent her an email congratulating her. It was fantastic.”
Meanwhile, Mirren previously admitted she “cried” when she saw the costumes she had to wear to play the Queen.
She said: “The clothes are very important. I remember when I had my first costume fitting for The Queen, and they laid all of these sensible shoes out, kilts, barbour jackets, head scarves, and these sort of dresses … I cried. I thought, I can’t play anyone who’d wear these clothes. I just can’t do it.
“The Queen is completely uninterested in clothes. She’s not at all vain … It’s like a policeman wearing a uniform. She’s wearing her uniform. She doesn’t care what she looks like in it as long as it’s the right thing for the right moment. Forget what they look like. It’s what they feel like. And they’re made out of unbelievably beautiful fabrics and then lined with incredibly expensive silk, so when you put them on, they feel incredible.”

Gore Verbinski departs Gambit

OHMYGOSSIP — Gore Verbinski has left ‘Gambit’.
The 53-year-old filmmaker has departed the ‘X-Men’ spin-off movie just a few months after it was due to start shooting with the search now on for a replacement, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Following the news, the intended February 14, 2019, release date has reportedly been pushed back to June 7, 2019, but studio insiders told the publication that the forthcoming film should do better as a summer movie.
While Verbinski’s reasons for departing the motion picture have not been confirmed, sources told Variety that he has left the project due to “creative differences”.
Channing Tatum is due to star in the titular role and will also produce with his partner Reid Carolin through their Free Association production company, alongside Simon Kinberg.
Verbinski is not the first director to depart the film.
Doug Liman was supposed to helm the production but dropped out because he “never found a personal connection” to the film.
Liman had already replaced original director Rupert Wyatt, who left over budgetary disagreements, and there have also been reports of multiple script re-writes.
Joshua Zetumer has penned the script for ‘Gambit’, which won’t be the first time the character has been seen on the big screen.
He was portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in the 2009 film ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’.
Gambit – also known as Remy LeBeau – was created by writer Chris Claremont and artist Jim Lee and made his first appearance in ‘Uncanny X-Men Annual #14’ in July 1990.
His powers include being able to turn objects into projectiles, including his signature item, a deck of cards.

Stephanie Pratt is ‘happy to be free’ of Jonny Mitchell

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephanie Pratt is “so happy to be free” of her ex-boyfriend Jonny Mitchell.
The former ‘Love Island’ hunk only joined the ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ house a week ago but the ‘Made in Chelsea’ star isn’t surprised he’s been put up for nomination and could leave the abode as early as tonight (12.01.18) because he’s “extremely boring.”
A source told The Sun Online: “Stephanie hasn’t watched any of this year’s series – she’s been busy filming in LA and has wasted enough time on him already. Jonny has come across as extremely boring and one dimensional, it’s been no surprise that he’s up for nomination. She’s so happy to be free of him.”
Jonny’s friends claimed that he’d probably try it on with Stephanie’s friend and former co-star Ashley James in the house out of spite but she’s so far ignored his advances.
An insider added to the online publication: “Stephanie has been really proud of Ashley for remaining loyal to their friendship.”
Ashley’s flatmate and close pal Charlotte de Carle added: “Ashley is more than aware of Jonny because we are both good friends with Stephanie.
“She would never go there with him. She is not the type of girl to crush toes.”
And Ashley, 30, has made no secret of the fact she isn’t keen on Jonny, 26, as she had no qualms about putting him up for eviction during this week’s live face-to-face noms.
She said: “My second nomination is Jonny and not because of my loyalties on the outside because I did make it very clear I was nervous to begin with.
“But I’ve put everything aside and I just feel like, you’re the person, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, I feel like we have the least in common.”
Stephanie and Jonny split up just before Christmas over cheating allegations.

Maria Fowler claims TOWIE forced her to date Mick Norcross

OHMYGOSSIP — Maria Fowler has claimed she left ‘The Only Way is Essex’ because she refused to date Mick Norcross.
The 31-year-old reality TV star turned her back on the ITVBe show in 2011 because producers allegedly “encouraged” her to enjoy a romance with the businessman – who is 23 years older than her – and implied if she didn’t that they would find another girl willing to do so to take her place on screen.
Writing in her first post on her new blog, Maria said: “At this point in the show I was being ‘encouraged’ to date Mick Norcross on camera, if I didn’t do this I was reassured that “There are a lot of girls who want to be on the show who will”. I loved Mick- as a friend, he is a genuine nice man.
“I had a meeting with the TOWIE producers at the end of series 3, they asked where my role in the show was heading, I didn’t know, they didn’t know.
“I was spending more time back in my hometown Derby with my partner at the time Lee (where he was playing football), and I guess you could say that was it. I didn’t fight for my place on the show. I simply agreed that I didn’t have a role (if I wasn’t going to be dating cast members) and by mutual consent I left.”
Maria’s decision to leave the programme was also prompted by the fact false allegations that she had worked as an escort began to circulate online and, in 2013, she attempted to commit suicide.
She explained: “In that moment everything I had and everything I was fell apart, I felt like someone had ripped my soul out and had thrown it into a fire, I was existing and not living.”
However, after years of working on her self-esteem and managing her depression, Maria fell in love with her current fiance Kelvin Batey – whom she’s set to marry next year – and has 16-month-old daughter Evie with him.
She said: “It took me 3 and a half years (and a terrible relationship in between) to realise my worth, to find my calling in life and to understand what life is about. I did some stupid things, I made some mistakes. I thought being seen with other guys would get his attention. I thought being papped was important, I thought my worth was based on the number of followers I had. I thought partying was the answer. Only finally when i healed, met my partner Kelvin and became a mother did I realise the true value of myself and the meaning behind the next chapter of my life. (sic)”

Sam Matterface is new Dancing on Ice commentator

OHMYGOSSIP — talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface is the new ‘Dancing on Ice’ commentator.
Bosses of the skating series were on a frantic hunt to find someone to do the voiceovers for Sunday’s (14.01.18) live show after horse racing expert Matt Chapman resigned after just one week in the role following some heavy social media backlash.
But producers can now breathe a sigh of relief as the sports broadcaster – who used t be on Sky Sports News – has agreed to take over the reins from this weekend.
A source told The Sun Online: “Sam is a talented commentator. Anyone who listens to his talkSPORT commentary will know how enthusiastic he is and how he can have the audience in the palm of his hand. ‘Dancing On Ice’ fans will love him.”
Matt – who was filling the shoes of the late legendary broadcaster Tony Gubba – announced his decision to leave the show yesterday (11.01.18).
The pundit said: “I’ve decided to hang up my skates, leave the rink and return to the turf and I wish the show the best of luck for the rest of the run.”
Matt had spent months learning the moves and the 12 contestants – including Brooke Vincent, Kem Cetinay and Donna Air – in time for the first show last weekend.
However, his abrupt voiceovers and cheesy one liners didn’t impress viewers and many of them took to social media to beg ITV to sack him and find a replacement.
A source said: “Matt decided he couldn’t make his diary quite work as he thought.
“He’s a big character and a talented sports commentator but he had some mixed reviews in the first show, and he told ITV that perhaps it wasn’t for him after all.
“It was always going to be a big gig following Tony who did eight series before he died in 2013. After Sunday’s show Matt told producers they would have to look elsewhere for a commentator for the rest of the series.”

Dame Darcey Bussell went ‘stiff’ after retirement

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Darcey Bussell freaked out when she started to get “stiff.”
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge retired from ballet – a sport she’d done since before her teens – in 2007 with a performance at the Royal Opera House in London in order to focus on being a mother to her two daughters Phoebe, 16, and Zoe, 14.
But she quickly realised that her body was starting to seize up and she could no longer bend down without getting aches and pains shooting through her lower back.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Friday (12.01.18), Darcey said when asked by Eamonn Holmes whether she worried about turning into a “porker” when she gave up dance: “It’s an awful thing when you give up something that’s so ingrained in your body. Why would I stop it? And you do stop because it’s not a job anymore and suddenly I take up my routine as a mum which I love but I certainly realised that I was missing something – I was missing those endorphins – I need to keep moving, my body needs it and I worked out very quickly that I didn’t enjoy getting stiff, tight and bending over and getting back pain and suddenly I realised my body was stiffening up and going solid.”
But dancing has had somewhat of a negative effect on her body as the 48-year-old choreographer has had two operations on her ankle, torn her hamstring, snapped the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee and in 2014 had her hip resurfaced.
She added: “I had a resurfacing. I have no cartilage.”
And, although she’s no longer dancing professionally, Darcey launched a dance fitness brand called DDMIX (Diverse dance mix) back in 2016 because she wants to stay in shape.
She explained: “It’s all about getting out of breath. For me it’s all about well-being and the endorphins that lift you and that’s what I need. It’s just keeping my body strong and supple. I do it about twice a week.”
