Brie Larson not shocked by Captain Marvel’s box office success

OHMYGOSSIP — Brie Larson doesn’t know why it was “so hard to comprehend” that ‘Captain Marvel’ made $1 billion.
The 29-year-old actress stars as the titular superhero in the film, which is the first female-led stand-alone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and although she is proud to have “normalised the concept” of a woman led action film making so much money at the box office she still feels “people need a reminder” that stories driven by women can be big successes.
Speaking at the Women in the World conference in New York City, she said: “We put unnecessary pressure on ourselves, I understand film history. I know that the film industry started with a majority of women. It started with women filmmakers.
“This weird idea that women maybe can’t open movies or are not important to storytelling or the female story is not high art, it’s bogus. I don’t want to for a second buy into it.
“I’m very grateful to have broken this glass ceiling of normalising the concept that women can also make a billion dollars. I don’t know why that was so hard to comprehend in the first place.
“It’s just like we’re human, whatever. If people needed this to be another reminder this decade [that minority groups can open movies and make a billion dollars] then great, I’m here, I did it.”
The ‘Room’ actress – who stars in ‘Avengers: Endgame – previously admitted that she hopes the film will spark a global conversation about the need for diversity and representation in Hollywood.
She said: “I’m just doing what I can do, based upon my experience and my one body, which is why representation on screen is so important. With films like this, that do end up going international, because a lot of the time, with smaller movies, you don’t know if they will or not, it means you get to have a really extensive conversation, and I’m so grateful that this film has so many pockets in it.”

Emily Atack ‘locked in theatre’ after comedy show

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Atack was locked in a theatre after reports of “people with machetes” outside the venue of her debut stand-up gig.
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star took to the stage for her first solo comedy show at the Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham on Thursday evening (11.04.19) and the ‘Talk Thirty To Me’ audience were told to stay inside after the performance while police were dealing with an incident.
Emily tweeted after the gig: “Birmingham.. I can’t tell you how special you made my first show. What a wonderful audience.
“I laughed (and almost cried) with you all. I’m sorry for that scare at the end, how awful?! hope you all got home safe! LOVE YOU ALL! (sic)”
A statement from West Midlands Police read: “Police received a call at 9.55pm last night (Thursday 11 April) to an unconfirmed report that people with machetes were outside the Old Rep Theatre, Station Street, Birmingham.
“Officers attended and there was no sign of any suspicious activity.”
Fans took to social media to praise Emily, 29, for both her stand-up skills and how she dealt with the incident.
One fan said: “There was a lock-in due to a police incident outside the theatre. Reports of people nearby seen with Machetes. (sic)”
Another added: “You handled a difficult situation very well and professionally – thanks for a good show.”
There have been no more details released about the scary incident, which came a day before she replaces Holly Willoughby on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, alongside her former ‘I’m A Celebrity’ camp mate John Barrowman.
John recently revealed the pair have been told to limit their naughtiness on air.
He said: “If you want to be naughty, you can be naughty – but within the limitations.
“We’re not going to do anything stupid or outrageous because we know the time slot. It’s not after 9pm, it’s in the morning, so there’s restrictions that we have.”

Elizabeth Banks: Kristen Stewart is ‘really funny’ in Charlie’s Angels

OHMYGOSSIP — Elizabeth Banks has teased that Kristen Stewart is “really funny” in ‘Charlie’s Angels’.
The 45-year-old star has directed and co-written the reboot of the famous franchise and insisted that the ‘Twilight Saga star – who will play one-third of the spy trio alongside Ella Balisnka and Naomi Scott – shows off a side of her that “you don’t often see in movies” because she is usually cast in drama roles.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: “I wanted Kristen to show off a side of herself you don’t often see in her movies, she’s really funny in this.”
The ‘Hunger Games’ actress went on to explain that it was important to her to show “women working together” in the forthcoming remake and insisted she didn’t want a movie about the lead character’s “romantic entanglements”
She said: “It was important to me to make a movie about women working together and supporting each other, and not make a movie about their romantic entanglements or their mother they don’t call enough.
“When I’m at work, I don’t talk about those things. I get on with my job. It felt important to do that for the Angels, to treat them with the respect their skill set demands.”
Elizabeth insists it is a “really exciting moment” for female-led movies in Hollywood with superhero flicks ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ becoming massive box office successes and she has written her three female leads to be “fun” as well as “real and relatable”
She said: “It’s a really exciting moment for female-driven films. Audiences are really looking for those inspirational stories about real and relatable characters, and I think the women in my movie are definitely real and relatable, but most importantly, I think they’re really fun.”

Zoe Saldana’s Missing Link voice took ‘two-and-a-half-years’ to get right

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Saldana took “two and a half years” to get the voice for her ‘Missing Link’ character right.
The 40-year-old actress appears in the stop-motion movie as Adelina Fortnight and revealed that this project took “a little more time” than any other animation she’s done before as the story was “continuously being shaped” by writer-and-director Chris Butler
Speaking at a ‘Missing Link’ media event in Los Angeles, she said: “It took a little more time than the animation projects I’ve been part of before. One animation I did in a year and a half, this one took two-and-a-half-years I believe of going back into the studio and recording her voice. Sometimes the tweaks were happening because Adelina and the story was continuously being shaped even though Chris Butler had a clear idea of what the story was.”
The family flick follows Mr. Link (Zach Galifianakis) a furry 8 feet tall mythical creature as he meets Adeline and explorer Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) who guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La.
The ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ star explained that it was the character’s accent which took so long to perfect as it needed to correctly portray her “dynamic” with other characters.
She said: “Her accent. At first Chris really wanted her to have a dense accent and then in our following recording session, he knew that he wanted to shave it off a little bit and still have Adelina feel comfortable navigating the English language and conveying her feelings. It was very important that her dynamic toward Lionel was evident. So, I liked those little adjustments that Chris continued to make for her.”

Bumblebee director ‘had’ to have Hailee Steinfeld play Charlie

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Bumblebee’ director Travis Knight always knew he wanted Hailee Steinfeld to play Charlie Watson because “she’s so damn good”.
The 45-year-old filmmaker told the studio that he “had” to cast the 22-year-old actress as in the prequel to Michael Bay’s sci-fi action series ‘Transformers’ as he felt the film would be a “challenge for any actor” so he needed “a great one”.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “I said to Paramount that Hailee Steinfeld has to be Charlie just because she’s so damn good. I knew it was going to be a challenge for any actor, so you had to get a great one.”
Travis went on to explain that the film – which follows Charlie as she befriends Autobot Bumblebee who is hiding on Earth – saw the ‘Pitch Perfect’ star acting alone because her robot partner is added via CGI and feels her “nuanced” performance was “extraordinary”.
He said: “Most of those scenes, she’s acting against vapour. Either there’s nothing there or there’s a stuffy, a tennis ball or some kind of a foam, plastic bust thingy. So, for her to give that kind of a performance with that kind of depth and nuance, it really is extraordinary.”
The director added that the pair has to “trust each other” while making the action blockbuster, and praised the star’s “exceptional” acting ability.
He said: “Hailee and I essentially had to hold hands, jump off a cliff together and learn how to trust each other in this process.
“We had an extraordinary working relationship, and I think you see that on the screen. It wouldn’t have mattered if she couldn’t pull it off, and she’s just absolutely exceptional.
“To be able to give that kind of performance when there’s nothing there, it’s amazing. It takes my breath away.”

Olivia Attwood joins TOWIE to support Chloe Sims

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Attwood has joined ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ to support her friend Chloe Sims.
The ‘Love Island’ beauty has filmed scenes for a cameo in the reality show after growing close to the longstanding cast member, and she will offer her support about her new relationship with Dan Edgar.
An insider told The Sun Online: “Olivia formed a friendship with Chloe when they appeared on ‘Celebs Go Dating’ together.
“The new series has so far proved to an emotional one for Chloe and she could really do with the additional support from Olivia, who’s never afraid to speak her mind.”
It’s thought she will be able to comfort Chloe as the star’s romance with Dan has split the opinion of other cast members who have been more sceptical.
However, Olivia has also known Shelby Tribble and Clelia Theodorou – who both first appeared on the show last year – for a long time, giving her more connections in the world of ‘TOWIE’.
The source added: “Olivia has also been close friends with Shelby and Clelia for years.
“The three of them met during their time as motorsport grid girls and they’ve remained good pals ever since.”
It’s been a tough time for Olivia lately, as it was revealed earlier this month that she has split from her boyfriend Bradley Deck just two months after moving to Manchester to be with the Blackburn Rovers footballer.
Confirming the break up in a very matter-of-fact Instagram post, she simply said: “Just to put any speculation to bed. Brad and I are no longer in a relationship.”

Emma Barton says running has ‘turned her life around’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Barton says training for the London Marathon has “turned [her] life around”.
The ‘EastEnders’ actress is to take part in the 26.2-mile race as part of the team Barbara’s Revolutionaries, who are running for former co-star Dame Barbara Windsor – who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014 – and the 41-year-old star and Barbara’s husband Scott Mitchell wish they had taken up running “sooner”.
She said: “It’s turned my life around. I have such a love of running now – both Scott and I have said we wish we’d done it sooner.
“I honestly feel as if I can take on the world after a run.
“All of my Pinterest boards used to be cakes and dogs, but now it’s running, strengthening and sports gear.
“It’s hilarious! If you speak to the others, they’re all the same.
“Gone are the days of handbags and sandbags.”
Emma admits she had no qualms about joining the team – which includes her co-stars Natalie Cassidy (Sonia Fowler), Jake Wood (Max Branning), and Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) – even though she “couldn’t run further than three miles at the time”, because she misses Barbara so much.
She said: “Barbara was so dedicated and we really miss her onset. She was so passionate about the business and had time and respect for everyone.”
While Emma had no reservations about putting on her running shoes, she isn’t sure her ‘EastEnders’ character Honey Mitchell would be quite so keen.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: “I don’t know if she’d want her make-up to run. I think she’d do it, though.
“Honey’s all for helping others.
“But she’d be dressed head-to-toe in all the brightest colours of Lycra imaginable.
“Not far off me in that way.”

Coronation Street’s Mikey North teases big 2019 for Gary Windass

OHMYGOSSIP — Mikey North has teased there is “a lot happening” for his ‘Coronation Street’ character this year – and wouldn’t be surprised if he is killed off.
The 32-year-old actor’s character Gary Windass is currently dating Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) but with the family’s record of deceased partners the star admits he will “probably” be bumped off soon.
He said: “It’s going to be a big year, there’s a hell of a lot happening for Gary.
“It’s kind of his big turning point; there is lots to come that will take us to all locations far and wide. It should be good. It’s kind of the next strand of the characters life really.
“I’ve always said, the amount of Platt’s boyfriends and husbands that have died, it’s probably got to be me next, but I’ve had a good run.”
Gary is up to no good after he was forced to start working for loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood), which was seen him target old people into taking out high interest loans, but Mikey recalls his character being “a bit of a bad lad” when he first stepped foot on the cobbles in 2008.
He added to The Sun Online: “I suppose when you look back at when he kind of first came into it, he was kind of a bit of a bad lad and a bit of a chav in some ways, a bit of a low life, so it’s kind of reverted back to his youth in a way.”
Despite being in a relationship with Sarah, Gary has fathered a child, Zack, with Nicola Rubinstein (Nicola Thorp), and Tina recently admitted she would kick her partner Adam Crofts out if he did that in real life.
She said: “Sarah assumes that Gary’s heart is in the right place and maybe she overlooks things that she shouldn’t. I definitely wouldn’t be as reasonable in her shoes.
“I’d be like, ‘Sorry? You had a baby with another person? Bye bye!’
“But she thinks they’re a good team and she knows that he loves her and wants to be with her, so she’s a bit more forgiving than she should be.”

Paul Chuckle to star in new series of The Real Marigold Hotel

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Chuckle is to star in the upcoming series of ‘The Real Marigold Hotel’.
The 71-year-old comedian flew out to India earlier this week with Dragons’ Den’s Duncan Bannatyne and former cricket commentator Henry Blofeld to film a new series of the upcoming BBC show, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper.
‘The Real Marigold Hotel’ follows a group of celebrities who travel to India to see whether they can find a more rewarding and fulfilling retirement than they have in the UK.
However, Duncan hinted in 2018 that he isn’t ready to retire just yet.
The 70-year-old television star said last year he had no plans to do so as he didn’t want to end up “having a lot of money and not knowing what to do with it”.
A recent spin-off series sent famous faces to Mexico with the same intentions.
But now the next series – which is based on the film ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’, which is set in India and featured Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith and Bill Nighy – is heading back to the country.
Paul – who suffered a devastating blow last year when his brother and comedy sidekick Barry Chuckle passed away aged 73 – has made a plea to appear on real-life shows in the past.
The actor previously said he is keen to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, and while he “can’t understand” why he is yet to be on the programme, he is hoping supporters will “tell ITV” that he would be a great addition to the series.
In response to a tweet from a fan who said he “has to” be on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ next year, he replied: “Tell @imacelebrity @ITV that (sic)”

Emily Atack’s poo problem on This Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Atack got pooed on by a lamb when she made her debut as a host on ‘This Morning’ on Friday (12.04.19).
The 29-year-old actress kicked off her presenting gig on the ITV daytime show with her ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ co-star John Barrowman in place of the programme’s regular hosts but she was left with a mess in her lap when the four-week-old animal decided to make a mess during an Easter segment.
Leaning in to pick up the lamb for a cuddle, Emily told John: “I’ve always wanted to pick up a lamb!”
But the lamb wasn’t too keen on her attention and made a break from her clutches, prompting her to exclaim: “Oh my God! I’m so sorry! I just dropped a lamb on television!”
The duo – who were filling in for regulars Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford – then admitted to viewers that the lamb had left excrement on Emily’s dress during a segment about household cleaning tips.
Emily asked: “Have you got any tips on how to get lamb poo out of a dress?”
John added: “She’s got lamb poo on her dress and I’ve got lamb wee on my leg.”
Emily then sniffed her hands before showing her co-presenter John, and saying: “It stinks!
The jungle pals were on the show because Eamonn and Ruth were enjoying a day off after filling in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield all week as they enjoyed a break from the programme.
Before sitting on the iconic sofa for the first time, Emily admitted it was a “dream come true” to get the gig.
She said: “I am absolutely over the moon to be joining ‘This Morning’ with my best mate John Barrowman over Easter.
“It’s a dream come true to be presenting one of my favourite shows. I look forward to being on the iconic sofa. We’re going to have so much fun.”

Miriam Margolyes refused ‘sex magic stunt’ in new BBC documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Miriam Margolyes refused to participate in a “magic sex stunt” which promised her a longer life.
The 77-year-old actress – who travels to America in her upcoming BBC Two documentary ‘Miriam’s Dead Good Adventure’ – was shocked when she was invited to take part in a sexual activity which is designed to prolong life.
In San Diego, the ‘Call the Midwife’ actress met a group of people who believe that “regular energetic orgasms” add on years to life and wanted her to participate in their X-rated ritual.
However, the star declined their beckoning, and said: “I don’t want to do this.
“This is not for me. My sexual energy is my own.”
The ‘Trollied’ actress – who loves chomping on raw onions and giant radishes – gets asked whether she prefers vegetables to sex, to which she replied: “If it was bad sex, I’d rather have a radish.”
Miriam decided to embark on the new show – which tackles the taboo of human mortality – because she openly admitted to being terrified about ageing and thinks English people should talk more openly about death.
Previously commenting on the nation’s treatment with passing, she said: “It’s unacknowledged and unwelcome. We don’t talk about it, it’s like a conspiracy of silence – and that makes it much harder.”
During her show, she also meets a group of people who believe they have found “the cure for death”, taking freezing cryotherapy baths.
One man from the group even invites her to his 500th birthday party, and Miriam is overwhelmed but claims she cannot “dismiss” their beliefs.
She added: “I can’t quite take it all on board but I can’t dismiss it.
“Precedence is against them though but they may have the last laugh.”

Strictly cast and crew back Anton du Beke to replace Darcey Bussell

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ cast and crew have backed Anton du Beke to replace Dame Darcey Bussell as the new judge on the show.
The 52-year-old professional dancer has been a huge hit with fans of the BBC One celebrity dance contest since it began in 2004, largely thanks to years of being placed with “novelty acts”
And as he’s never a “real contender” to win the coveted Glitter Ball trophy, he is a favourite to take over from the retired ballerina.
A source told The Sun Online: “Loveable Anton is the cast’s favourite choice to take over from Darcey as judge. Some on the show believe it’s time for him to hang up his dancing shoes and sit on the other side of the table.
“Anton is a well-loved professional but it’s felt by many that his glory years are over. He’s often placed with the novelty act and has no chance of getting near the Glitter Ball. He isn’t a real contender any more.”
This news comes after Darcey – who became a full-time judge on the show’s 10th series in 2012 – revealed she was stepping away from her spot on the panel alongside head judge Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.
The dancer added that she’s enjoyed “every minute” of her time on the show and insisted she’s not leaving because of “of any upset or disagreement”.
She said in a statement: “It has been a complete privilege for me to be part of ‘Strictly’, working with such a talented team.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time and will miss everyone from my fellow judges, the presenters, the dancers, the musicians, the entire back stage team, and especially the viewers of the show, who have been so supportive.
“I am not leaving because of any upset or disagreement at all, I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance, after seven truly wonderful years that I can’t imagine having gone any better.”

Richard Madden says Bodyguard’s inspired by real-life affair

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Madden says ‘Bodyguard’ was inspired by a real-life affair between a Government minister and their Personal Protection Officer.
The 32-year-old actor played Sergeant David Budd in the hit BBC series – a bodyguard who has an affair with the woman he’s protecting, Home Secretary Julia Montague, played by Keeley Hawes.
Richard explained that although many believed the relationship to be “very fictionalised”, military advisers – who worked on BBC cop series ‘Line Of Duty’ – revealed to him that in their experience “sometimes lines get muddied” and individuals end up in “different relationships” with their employees.
Speaking to The Los Angeles Times newspaper, the ‘Game of Thrones’ star said: “To prepare for the role I worked with a lot of military advisers on ‘Line of Duty’.
“People said it was very fictionalised, this relationship with the Home Secretary. But from them, without naming names, they said actually you do end up very close to these people and sometimes that line does get muddied and you end up in different relationships.
“It was interesting to know it was based on these protection officers who spend more time with their person than with their husband or wife and sometimes the line does get crossed.”
As for what’s in store for season two of the show, the ‘Rocketman’ star says producers want to “create something different” although he will still be “part of the story”.
He said: “We hadn’t intended to make a second one but the character is so fascinating.
“We want to create something different and do justice to season one. I will be part of the story. I want it to be as exciting as season one and to show something new.”

Jimmy Carr claims Big Narstie had nap on The Big Fat Quiz of The Year

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Carr has claimed Big Narstie took a nap when he appeared on ‘The Big Fat Quiz of The Year.’
The 46-year-old comedian recalled a time when the musician and ‘The Big Narstie Show’ host appeared on his own show early on in his TV career and had a little sleep during production.
Jimmy appeared on ‘The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show’ on BBC Radio 2 on Friday (12.04.19), where he said: “I like Big Narstie. He came on the Big Fat Quiz a couple of years ago. It was sort of the first telly he did and he was really funny on it!
“Although it was a 5 hour recording he had a sleep. He literally went to sleep in one of the parts. He had a little rest – he’s such a funny bloke! You can’t take it too seriously!”
Zoe added that she had heard this is not uncommon for the ‘BDL Anthem’ musician.
She said: “This is something I’ve heard about Big Narstie. I think Frankie Bridge was doing a show with him, and she turned around and he was having a little nap!”
The ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ host also opened up about how he had work done on his teeth and admitted he feels extra pressure to look good and take care of himself because he is on screen all the time.
He said: “I know people don’t like talking about dentistry but I had basically everything chiselled out.
“I got them done because I think its weird thing when you see yourself back on TV it makes you so much more vain than you otherwise would be.
“I’d quite like to have yellow to and be four stone heavier.
“But I’m on the telly and you see yourself and go ‘Oh no, I can’t eat biscuits!'”

Star Wars: Episode IX title revealed

OHMYGOSSIP — The final instalment of the mainline ‘Star Wars’ series will be subtitled ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.
The film – which was previously known as ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ – released its first trailer on Friday (12.04.19), and with it, the full title of the project was announced as ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’.
The trailer aired at the annual ‘Star Wars’ Celebration event in Chicago, and was introduced by director JJ Abrams, producer Kathleen Kennedy and key cast members including Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Kelly Marie Tran.
Footage in the trailer showed Daisy’s character Rey hugging John’s Finn, as well as wielding a lightsaber, dodging explosions and being told by Mark Hamill’s gravelly voiceover as Luke Skywalker that the future rests on her shoulders and that “no one is really gone”.
‘The Rise of Skywalker’ is set to bring an end to the nine-part mainline film saga, although further spin-off movies are still in development.
During the event, JJ confirmed the final film unfolds after the events of eighth instalment ‘The Last Jedi’, and teased a “great” storyline.
He said: “Some time has gone by. This is an adventure that the group goes on together. It’s a story that I think is one of the great things about the movie – the dynamic between the characters. They are just the most wonderful together.”
The film will also feature an appearance from the late Carrie Fisher – who passed away in 2016 – whose character Princess Leia will be implemented into the movie using discarded footage from the first two films in the new trilogy.
JJ said: “Princess Leia lives in a way in this film that is kind of mind-blowing to me. You don’t recast that part and you don’t suddenly have her disappear. The idea of having a CGI character was off the table. So we said ‘What if we could write scenes about her so it’s her performance?’
“Every day it hits me that she’s not here. It’s so surreal because we are working with her still, if that makes sense. She’s in scenes. She’s alive in scenes.”
‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ is set to hit cinema screens in December.
