Sonic the Hedgehog director promises character redesign

OHMYGOSSIP — The director of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film has promised “changes” to the character after fan backlash against the trailer.
Jeff Fowler has logged onto Twitter to tell fans that he’s heard the online criticism “loud and clear” about the changes to the look of Sega’s iconic video game character in the upcoming live action/CGI film and says he will be working with Paramount to redesign the blue speedster as soon as possible.
The filmmaker tweeted: “Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear … you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast (sic)”
Among the most hated features of the updated Sonic character were his anthropomorphic teeth, blue fur and pointy nose and the overhaul comes six months before the movie’s early November release.
The film’s story will see a police officer in the rural town of Green Hills help Sonic escape from the government who is looking to capture him.
Neal H. Moritz is producing the CGI animation under his Original Film banner, while ‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller will serve as executive producer alongside Toby Ascher, and Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons will co-produce.
Jim Carrey is to play the villain Doctor Eggman Robotnik, who has always been Sonic’s archenemy in the video game series.
Sonic made his video game debut on the 16-bit Sega Mega Drive console, with the character created by Sega as a response to rival Nintendo’s hugely popular ‘Super Mario Bros.’ series of platform titles.
Sonic has previously appeared in a number of animated series including 1993’s ‘Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog’ and he had cameos in Disney’s 2012 animation ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ and 2018 sequel ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’.

Willow maybe rebooted as a TV show for Disney+

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Willow’ could be rebooted as a TV show on Disney’s new streaming service.
The fantasy film’s director Ron Howard revealed that he and ‘Star Wars’ creator and George Lucas – who produced and wrote the story of the 1988 fantasy classic – are working on a Willow TV series for Disney+.
Speaking to MTV’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Howard admitted that Jon Kasdan, a writer on his film ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ has been “hounding” him to reboot ‘Willow’ and he thought it was a “great” idea.
He said: “I think it’d be a great way to go, In fact, George always talked about the possibility of a Willow series, and it’d be great and more intimate.
“And built around that character and some of the others. And Jon Kasdan has, I think, an inspired take on it and it could be really, really cool.”
A source confirmed to Deadline that there have been conversations about the project at Disney+ not is has not yet been commissioned.
The original film was nominated for two Oscars and followed Warwick Davis as the titular farmer who plays a critical role in protecting a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her and take over the world.
However, Howard previously insisted that if there were to be a remake, the lead character would be more mature and wiser than he once was.
He enthused: “That would be hugely exciting … revisiting Willow as a character, now he’s older and wiser and perhaps even a better sorcerer, who knows by now, would be brilliant fun.”
This isn’t the first time Howard has hinted at a reboot and in May last year he tweeted and teased that he and Lucas were “seriously” thinking about it.
Replying to a fan asking for “More willow please”, he said: “We are seriously exploring it with Lucasfilm folks. Fingers crossed (sic)”

Michelle Pfeiffer to star in French Exit

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Pfeiffer, Lucas Hedges and Tracy Letts are set to star in ‘French Exit’.
The trio have joined the cast of the upcoming movie adaptation of the Patrick deWitt novel, which will be directed by Azazel Jacobs.
‘French Exit’ tells the story of a widow, her directionless adult son and an aging cat who she believes holds the spirit of her late husband. Facing financial ruin, the family embark on a voyage to Paris for a new beginning.
Michelle is set to play the widow, 60-year-old penniless Manhattan socialite Frances Price, Lucas will star as her son and Tracy will voice the cat, who Frances believes is the embodiment of Franklin, her dead husband.
Patrick deWitt has adapted the screenplay based on his novel.
Meanwhile, Michelle recently admitted she finds it increasingly difficult to find acting jobs she is “excited” by.
The 61-year-old Hollywood star took a five-year break from movies, returning with a slew of roles in 2017, and admitted she would rather enjoy her hobbies than take on work that doesn’t excite her.
She said: “I just look for [projects] I can get excited about. And honestly, that gets harder and harder because I also know what it’s like to not work so hard and enjoy my life, and I have other interests.
“But I also have always loved making movies and floating in and out of different characters . . . I love [how] with the film community, I feel really at home there, and I’m really incredibly lucky and grateful to have found my place in the world.”
And it seems she has felt that way ever since she returned to work two years ago, as she said at the time she believed she is “un-hireable” because she’s “picky” about her roles.
The ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ star also admitted she’d always make sure her work was suitable for the schedule of her two children – Claudia, 25, and John, 24, whom she has with husband David E. Kelley – and that it had an impact on her career.
She said: “I’ve never lost my love for acting. I feel really at home on the movie set. I’m a more balanced person honestly when I’m working.
“But I was pretty careful about where I shot, how long I was away, whether or not it worked out with the kids’ schedule. And I got so picky that I was un-hireable. And then … I don’t know, time just went on.”

Lucy Fallon for Strictly Come Dancing

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Fallon is set to sign up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 23-year-old actress will leave her role as ‘Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt – who she has played since 2015 – at the end of her contract in 2020, and it has been claimed that one of the reasons for her departure is her desire to take part in ‘Strictly’.
A source told The Sun: “Lucy is a huge fan of ‘Strictly’ and was invited to watch last year’s live show in Blackpool. When ‘Strictly’ bosses realised she was keen, they told her she’d have to quit ‘Corrie’ because of its ban on deals.
“Lucy took the plunge as she knows her acting career has more opportunities ahead than sticking around in Weatherfield.
“Talks have started between her representatives and Strictly bookers. Some male dancers already want to partner her.”
Lucy has admitted it was an “extremely difficult” decision to quit the show, and she thanked executive producer Iain MacLeod and “everyone at ‘Coronation Street'” for their support.
She wrote on Twitter: “Would’ve liked the chance to announce this in my own time lol… however, after the most incredible 4 years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.
“It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday. I’m so thankful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly. Thank you so much for your support and love… can’t wait to see what’s in store for Bethany this year. (sic)”
She later added: “Just to clarify, my decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street. I didn’t make it lightly and I am going to miss every single person there. Excited for my final year at the best place! Woo (sic).
Lucy’s decision comes after Faye Brookes (Kate Connor), Tristan Gemmill (Robert Preston) and Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) all recently announced they are leaving the soap.

Sheridan Smith sorry for accusing fiance’s mother of killing her dog

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheridan Smith has apologised for accusing her fiance’s mother of killing her pet dog.
The 37-year-old actress launched an extraordinary Twitter attack on her fiance Jamie Horn’s mother after her Pomeranian Panny died but later took to social media to retract her claims and apologise for her outburst.
In tweets which have since been deleted but which were obtained by MirrorOnline, Sheridan originally wrote: “FYI if I ever go missing look straight at Jamie and his nut job mum x she killed my dog so this woman is capable of anything. Also her son hates me like she does and they threaten me everyday x there it’s out there. God knows how this will end but I love y’all (sic).”
She later added: “Thought I would clear up my silly rant. Firstly I apologise to anyone I upset, I was hurt and angry but this is no one’s fault.
“It was an accident. Unfortunately my darling Panny was being looked after when another dog attacked her and as a result she died. I’m sorry for my outburst.”
Sheridan and Jamie got engaged three months after they met on dating app Tinder.
The star – who has moved to the countryside to live with Jamie – previously admitted she was stunned when the 28-year-old insurance broker popped the question.
She said: “I can’t believe it, someone’s going to have me! When he asked my mum for my hand in marriage, she said, ‘Are you sure you can handle her?’ I’m in a really good place, I feel really happy.”
And she said the pair have been discussing starting a family of their own.
She said: “I just never pictured myself as a wife and mother, but Jamie is making me so happy that we’re able to have these conversations about our future. We’ll see what happens.
It’s so different from what I used to get up to a couple of years ago.
“Sometimes I’m in bed by eight. Gone are the days of me falling out of the Groucho Club at three in the morning. I feel that it’s my little sanctuary, away from the madness. Having to care about things other than yourself is healing. Animals don’t judge you … I love being a farmer’s wife, though. And Jamie calls himself a farmer’s husband. We’re not married yet, but we’re enjoying being engaged and marriage is the next step.”

Ana de Armas’ first attempt at acting in English was ‘disaster’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ana de Armas’ first attempts at acting in English were a “disaster”.
The Cuban star became a household name when she moved to Spain and landed a role in TV show ‘El Internado’ but it wasn’t so easy when she relocated to Los Angeles and had to sharpen up her language skills in order to get ahead.
Asked by OK! magazine if she picked English up quickly, she said: “I had to. I saw actors like Penelope [Cruz] and could tell how hard it was to act in English, because it’s a different part of your brain.
“At first it was a disaster. No one understood me and I couldn’t understand the context of what I was reading.
“I remember phrases like, ‘I beg your pardon’. I had no clue what I was saying! But I knew emotionally what the scene was about.”
Ana – who has landed a role in the new James Bond movie – admitted it was “tough” when she first moved to the US because she felt “lonely” and experienced a lot of professional rejection.
She said: “It was a good exercise for my ego. It was tough at first, as it can feel very lonely.
“Everything in Los Angeles happens in a house, so if you don’t know anyone to invite you, it’s hard to get anywhere.
“Tehre was a period of frustration when in every audition I was told my English wasn’t good enough.
“Some people even said, ‘You could never compete with that’, pointing to a blonde American actress.
“Then I realised the best thing I have is nobody is me. Why would you want to be someone else? You can’t. They’re taken!”

Patti Smith found turning 70 ‘challenging’

OHMYGOSSIP — Patti Smith found the year she turned 70 “challenging”.
The ‘Because the Night’ hitmaker is writing a follow-up to her 2015 memoir ‘M. Train’, which will cover the year 2016 because it was a period she found so difficult.
She said: “[The book] covers the year 2016. A challenging year for everyone but personally challenging for me.
“It was a year of personal loss and the year I turned 70.
“When you’ve turned 70 your disciplines get sharper.
“That’s the advantage I have of living a longer life than many of my friends. I’m still searching, still curious.”
The 72-year-old star looks after herself because she is determined to work for as long as she possibly can.
She said: “I mean, the world is in a terrible crisis, but I love life, I love work, and I try to take care of myself the best I can so I can continue to work as long as I can.”
Patti is hoping to make a trip to England in the near future – because she wants to catch up on her favourite British detective shows.
She said: “I recently saw the first episode of the new season of ‘Endeavour’ and got to meet Shaun Evans.
“It’s killing me waiting for the other episodes.
“I’m surviving by watching ‘George Gently’ and ‘Vera’, with Brenda Blethyn. Oh, it’s fantastic.”

Ryan Reynolds’ Pokemon nerves

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds was nervous about joining the cast of ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’.
The 42-year-old actor voices the beloved Pokémon character Pikachu in the new movie and he admitted that the popularity of the gaming franchise left him worried about doing it justice.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “You’re sort of grappling with this beast. There’s a reason that Pokémon’s been a worldwide cultural phenomenon for so long and people are so passionate about it. But it was a great story and it worked whether you had Pokémon in it or not.”
And director Rob Letterman admitted he was also worried about getting the story right for the fans.
He said: “I’m nervous right now. I always am nervous. It’s something that people care a lot about; that people grew up on around the world. We put a lot of care and love into making sure it was right. And we worked very closely with the original creators in Japan to make sure we got it right.”
And Letterman knew Ryan was perfect for the role when he took a clip of the star from ‘The Proposal’ and placed his voice over an animated Pikachu.
He said: “Once I saw that clip, I was done. It’s a really hard thing to do. It really narrows down who can play that character. We wanted somebody with a big personality who could come out of this adorable, little character. But they also had to have heart.”

Kelvin Fletcher to join Dancing On Ice?

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelvin Fletcher is set to join ‘Dancing On Ice’.
The 35-year-old actor – who portrayed Andy Sugden in ‘Emmerdale’ between 1996 and 2016 – has impressed show bosses with his ice-skating videos and they are keen to sign him up for the new series.
A source told The SunOnline: “Kelvin is strong and he can skate. Producers have already seen videos of him skating already and are impressed.
“Kelvin’s name has come up a few times over the past weeks and they are keen on him.”
Meanwhile, Kelvin previously revealed he doesn’t watch ‘Emmerdale’ anymore because he wanted to “put some distance between” himself and the soap.
However, he admitted that the public “keep him up to speed” on what’s happening in the soap since he decided to call time on his Dales career so he doesn’t need to watch the soap.
He said: “I don’t watch as it clashes with my daughter’s bedtime and I needed to put some distance between me and the show but it doesn’t matter because everywhere I go, the public keep me up to speed.
“They ask why I haven’t visited Sarah (Andy’s daughter) or if I even know she’s ill. They’re very passionate both in person and on social media.
“I do keep up with how the show is doing in terms of awards as I’m still good friends with Danny Miller (Aaron Dingle) and Ryan Hawley (Robert Sugden, Andy’s brother). They’ve both continued to do so well as has Emmerdale over the past couple of years. It’s so well deserved and a long time coming!”
Kelvin admitted that playing Andy has left him wanting to explore as many “different roles as possible” and he confessed he’d love to star in a “historical drama”, because he’s a bit of a “geek”.
He added: “After playing the same character for so long, I’m just keen to do as many different types of roles as possible. I’m a history geek so I’d love to do a historical drama maybe but I just want to stretch myself as an actor.”

Sharing the happy news on her social media accounts, Kym wrote: “Last night was a night I will never forget. I became a “Loli” for the first time!!! My beautiful daughter was an absolute warrior and her partner and I were the best birthing team we could be!!! I was so honoured to have been a part of bringing him into the world. My beautiful grandson, I love you I will always love you and I promise to help guide you through life as best I can. Welcome to the world “Baby Hoz” #name to follow (sic)”
Emilie also shared the happy news on her own Instagram account, where she spoke of how the little one had “filled a space in her heart that she never even knew was there”.
She wrote: “Welcome to the world my precious baby boy …

Richard Madden: ‘All actors should be able to play all parts’

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Madden thinks all actors should be able to play all parts.
While there has been some criticism of straight actors playing gay parts, Richard has admitted that there is a need for more diversity onscreen but says ultimately the best actor should get the part.
He told The Guardian: “It’s a really terrible route to go down if we start restricting people’s casting based on their personal lives. We have to focus more on diversity and having everyone represented, but I’m also a firm believer in the best actor for the part.”
Richard plays John Reid, Elton John’s first manager and one-time lover in the upcoming biopic ‘Rocketman’ and he loved working with star Taron Egerton and director Dexter Fletcher because they were both “so prepared”.
He added: “And that’s how I like to be, as prepared as possible, so we get on set and we can just play. Even with dancing, the point is to prep to oblivion so that I don’t think about it and can get on with telling the story.”
Although Richard, 32, played romantic heroes early in his career, he has enjoyed taking on darker parts recently, such as in the TV drama ‘Bodyguard’.
He said: “I spent my 20s playing Romeo. Twice, literally, and then versions of it. So I was glad to move into my 30s and be in a place where I might be the villain. I’m used to playing a guy with a few bad characteristics. With that, you think, ‘What has made you this way?’ and you justify them. But what was interesting with ‘Bodyguard’ was realising that… sometimes people are bad. Or they’re good, but they change. This character was fun because he’s manipulative and snide in his tactics, and a b*****d. You’re being dark, and you’re not justifying it. I enjoyed playing that.”

Halle Berry did three years of martial arts training in six months

OHMYGOSSIP — Halle Berry crammed three years of martial arts training into six months ahead of filming ‘John Wick 3: Parabellum’.
The 52-year-old actress admitted she had never “worked so hard” in getting into shape for a role and thinks she’s at her best “mentally and physically” as a result.
She said: “You can’t normally get to the level I got to in five months, it normally takes people two or three years and I got all this training under the guise of doing my work.
“Seriously, these guys worked me so hard.
“I never worked so hard in my whole life for this character and this movie. I have never been in better shape, mentally and physically.”
And Halle – who has children Nahla, 11, and Maceo, five, from previous relationships – has been happy to show off the results of her tough workouts on Instagram.
She added: “Chad [Stahelski, director] got me into the best shape of my life, so why not show it off?
“… As an artist and as a woman who has something to say, social media has given me my own voice and my own outlet.
“I can show the world through my eyes but I can also choose what I do and don’t want to talk about.”
The ‘X-Men’ actress’ personal trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, has previously shared details of her tough exercise regime.
He said: “She pretty much had a checklist of things she wanted as far as her physique is concerned and we had a bulletproof battle plan … You better believing we are doing some boxing, some kick boxing, some Muay Thai … I’m definitely working on those skill sets with her and she’s also doing strength and conditioning.
“She’s using kettle bells, bar bells, dumbbells, working on the pull up bar, doing dips, sprinting pushing heavy things, pulling stuff. It’s just a really dynamic way to jumpstart anyone’s metabolism. I have never met anybody that works harder and trains harder and is just so resilient. She is getting faster, stronger and becoming more athletic. I’ve never met another person who can do it like her.”

Stacey Solomon wants X Factor job

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Solomon wants to be an ‘X Factor’ judge.
The TV presenter – who found fame as a contestant on the ITV show in 2009 – has revealed that she would love to return to the competition as a judge to replace Robbie Williams or Ayda Field, who are departing the show.
She told the Sunday Mirror: “I’d love it! That would be the ultimate dream job. I loved doing it and love being a part of it, so to be able to mentor and go through that experience again, but with somebody else, would be incredible.”
And even if Simon Cowell decides not to hire her, Stacey admitted she is still a huge fan of the show and would be happy with a return to the old judging panel of Dannii Minogue, Sharon Osbourne, Cheryl Tweedy or Louis Walsh.
She said: “I would just love ‘The X Factor’ to bring back the old judges, Dannii Minogue, Sharon Osbourne, Cheryl – even Louis Walsh!
“I really missed Louis last year. I’d love to see that lot back on. I think we could go back to the old school, even go back to the little audition room!
“But I’m always up for being involved. Without the ‘X Factor’ I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today. There’s just no way I would have had the opportunities I’ve had, so I love the show.”
Former contestant Louis Tomlinson returned to the show as a judge last year and won the competition with his act Dalton Harris. However, he is not expected to return this year because the show may clash with his album work.
Despite admitting he had an “amazing experience” on the talent show last year, the 27-year-old singer insists his main “mission” for 2019 is to release a solo record and hinted that if recording the programme is “going to get in the way” of his music he may not be back.
Louis said: “Simon hasn’t called me yet.
“I had an amazing experience on the show last year, but if it’s going to get in the way of my mission for this year, which is releasing the album, then it’s probably going to be less likely.”

Kym Marsh thought she was finished with love

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh was “done” with love before meeting her latest boyfriend.
The 42-year-old actress was set up with hunky army major Scott Ratcliff, 31, by her ‘Coronation Street’ co-star Antony Cotton and although she is happier than ever, Kym admitted that after two divorces and a string of broken relationships, she had given up on love before meeting Scott.
She told Fabulous magazine: “I’d kind of gone: ‘That’s me. I’m done. I’d reached the point where I just wanted a break from this nonsense. I wanted to go home and spend some time with my kids.
“We were messaging and then FaceTiming and spent two and a half hours talking every night, so we learned everything about each other. There was nothing to do apart from talk, so after three weeks I was like: ‘I know who he is.’
“Normally when you meet someone, you might think aesthetically he’s fit. After a few dates, you might end up in bed together. Whatever. But when did you get to know the person down the line?
“So the way we met was really weird, but it was a wonderful way of getting to know someone. And, yeah, by the time we actually met in person, I’d fallen for him.”
Kym is completely smitten with her new man and joked she is worried he will leave her if he ever realises how gorgeous he is.
She said: “Yeah, it’s love. He’s got a lovely aura about him. People want to be around him. And I love that he’s not got any idea how fit he is. When he finds out, he may leave me.”
Kym has children David, 24, and Emilie, 21, from her relationship with Dave Cunliffe, and Polly, eight, from her marriage to Jamie Lomas, 44.
She was also previously married to former ‘EastEnders’ star Jack Ryder.

Helen Flanagan to return to Coronation Street?

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Flanagan is set to return to ‘Coronation Street’.
The fan favourite – who plays Rosie Webster on the ITV soap – is being wooed by show bosses who are hoping she will return to the cobbles after her current maternity leave.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Things are pretty bleak behind the scenes.
“Bosses want to bring joy back, on and off screen. The plan is to bring back one or two high-profile stalwarts who are a hit with older viewers.
“They’re keen for Helen to sign after maternity leave. But producers will not budge on the gruelling schedule, and will continue the shock ‘modern’ storylines, even if they risk alienating older viewers.”
Helen and footballer Scott Sinclair – who already had daughter Matilda Jessica, three, together – welcomed their second daughter Delilah in June 2018.
Along with Helen, Kevin Kennedy is also set to return to the show, reprising his role as Curly Watts.
An insider said: “Kevin has previously said he wants to come back, so it’s about agreeing terms and finding the right story.
Kevin, 57, joined the show in 1983 and quit in 2003.
Helen’s and Kevin’s returns come after it was claimed that six more stars are set to quit, following the recent departures of seven of the cast.
In the past three months, Faye Brookes, Kym Marsh, Katie McGlynn, Lucy Fallon, Connie Hyde, Bhavna Limbachia and Tristan Gemmill have quit and now it has been claimed that six more stars could leave in the near future.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “I know of another half dozen actors who are considering their positions. The bosses have had a series of meetings to discuss the situation, but don’t seem to have come up with any concrete plans. They’ve got this old-school mindset of ”no one is bigger than ‘Corrie’.”
