Guillermo Del Toro isn’t interested in scares

OHMYGOSSIP — Guillermo Del Toro isn’t “interested in scares” when he’s directing.
The 54-year-old filmmaker is gearing up for the release of his new horror movie ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ – which he produced and wrote the screen story for – later this month, but has said he usually doesn’t worry too much about “the scares” in his movies, because he opts for telling “fairy-tales” with “horror images”.
He said: “As a director, I’m not that interested in scares. I use my movies more like a fairy-tale. I do horror images, but like a fairy-tale. However, as a producer, I’m really interested in the scares with Juan Antonio Bayona in ‘The Orphanage’, and with Andy Muschietti on ‘Mama’, and this.”
Guillermo says scares interest him as a producer because he “enjoys watching” scary movies.
He added: “I’m very interested because it’s something that I enjoy watching. In this movie, you need to coax the audience with very elegant camera work and very good set-ups. There’s a high production value, too. Plus, I have lots of empathy with the characters.”
‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’ is based on the children’s book of the same name by Alvin Schwartz, and Guillermo says that whilst the film is a horror flick, it’s one the whole family can enjoy.
Speaking to SFX magazine, he said: “When I made the first ‘Hellboy’, I thought, ‘The audience that I really want for this movie is going to me able to tell me what they think 10 years from now.’ I was making that movie for kids and, sure enough, the people that grew up with it are the people who love it the most.
“However, the beauty of this project is the way that it’s a horror movie that can be watched with the family.”

Kevin Hart turns sights towards Uptown Saturday Night remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Hart is set to star in a remake of ‘Uptown Saturday Night’.
The 40-year-old comedian is poised to join forces with director Rick Famuyiwa to make a reworked version of the 1974 Sidney Poitier-directed comedy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Kenya Barris has penned the most recent draft of the remake and he is also expected to co-produce the project.
The original movie told the story of two friends who were robbed at a fancy nightclub.
One of the items they had stolen was a winning lottery ticket and the duo spend the rest of the evening desperately trying to recover the ticket.
Despite being one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars, Kevin previously claimed that fame isn’t “real”.
The stand-up star conceded that fame can be easily “snatched from you”.
He explained: “This s**t ain’t real. It can be snatched from you. Look at how many stars they build up to beat down.
“Look at Britney Spears when she was the hottest thing ever. Then Britney went through a meltdown and everybody is like ‘Well we don’t know about this f***ing chick here.’ Then she got back again and everybody was like, ‘We love you Britney!’ It was like ‘What?!’ You’re f***ing all over the place, people.’
“It’s not like your life changes because of the level of success that you have. At the end of the day people are people.
“If you come up to take a picture of me and I’m with my kids, I’m gonna politely tell you, ‘Hey man, I appreciate your support, but I’m on daddy time right now.’ As a person you should understand that.”

Jennifer Kent’s acting training improves her filmmaking skills

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Kent credits her “rigorous acting training” for making her a good filmmaker.
The ‘Nightingale’ director underwent classic training when she was younger and it gave her “a real respect” for writing and allowed her to be more “rigorous” with her actors too.
She said: “I think I had a very rigorous acting training, I had the best training as it was years spent devoted to the art of performance. I got to know the classics and all of the great writers and so you start to inhabit these incredibly complex characters. It gave me a real respect for writing and for story and for experience doing it and it makes me rigorous with my actors.”
And the 50-year-old actress turned filmmaker has been “attracted” to scary stories since she was a child.
She added: “I wrote this story called ‘Scottie and The Land of Terrible creatures’ and my mum gave it to me when I was thinking, ‘Am I ever going to make a film’ and she handed it to me this book that I made when I was a kid and it’s really the story of ‘The Babadook’ which is really bizarre. I’ve been attracted to scary stories since I was a kid, and one of the first films to hit me was Bambi, it was a dark film.”
Jennifer took the crafting of her new movie “very seriously”.
Speaking on Collider’s horror podcast, ‘The Witching Hour!’, she said: “I think ‘The Nightingale’ is a war film so I had a commitment that I made to telling that honestly and that involved a lot of research and for both films, love and kindness runs underneath everything that is going on. Especially with ‘The Nightingale’ I feel disturbed by the lack of empathy in our world and I see it vanishing and the importance of it so to get to that light you have to go through the darkness. It was very tough and I took it very seriously.”

Hobbs and Shaw spin-off movies in the works?

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ has been made with the intention of creating more spin-off movies, according to David Leitch.
The 49-year-old filmmaker – who has helmed the much-hyped new movie – has revealed his intention was always to help “build a world that was fertile ground for spin-offs”.
Speaking to Screen Rant, he shared: “My intention was – and I hope that the studio hears that – is that we wanted to build a world that was fertile ground for spin-offs.
“When I came on board, the idea was, ‘How can I immediately with this film, strike a pose to build out Hobbs’ and Shaw’s individual worlds so that they could do their own their own films?’
“But then also, characters in that world could have the ability to do their own, as well.”
Leitch added that with a host of big-name actors starring in ‘Hobbs & Shaw’, there is obvious scope to create a series of spin-off movies.
He said: “If you look at it, we have movie stars in this movie. Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, these other people we can’t mention.
“You realise that there’s potential for a lot of avenues for just the Hobbs and Shaw universe to go.”

Curtis Pritchard is a ‘ten out of ten’

OHMYGOSSIP — Maura Higgins says Curtis Pritchard is “a ten out of ten” in the bedroom.
The ‘Love Island’ star is glad she waited before having sex with the hunky star, saying it made her night of romance with Curtis feel even more “special”.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Maura shared: “I’d give him a ten out of ten.”
Maura wanted to sleep with Curtis during their time in the ‘Love Island’ villa – but, ultimately, she’s glad they waited to make love in more private surroundings.

“I’m basically retired. People think I’m Gaz who wants to get p***ed all the time. But I’m more likely to be in the queue for soft play than a club these days. I’ve only had one night out this year and I was home by 1am.”

“I wanted to be a dad. Being out of the TV bubble’s been amazing.”

Jack Whitehall learns of womanising ancestor who was killed by STD

As part of his appearance on ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, a show that traces its subject’s family tree, the stand-up comic that his discovered his promiscuous great-great-grandfather Richard contracted syphilis before he went mad and died. He also learned that Richard ended up passing the disease onto his wife, Caroline, and it killed her too.
Appearing alongside his dad, Michael, Jack said: “We are not particularly emotional people, but reading an account that’s as graphic and as stark as that, it’s very hard not to be affected by it.”
And the family event went as far to cover up the real cause of death and claimed Richard died in a pony and trap accident whilst his wife was “killed by grief”.
Elsewhere, the ‘Bad Education’ actor was then told that his great-grandfather inherited a whopping £10million following the deaths of his parents.

Love Island’s Anna Vakili ‘dodged a bullet’ by splitting from Jordan

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Love Island’ star Anna Vakili thinks she “dodged a bullet” by splitting from Jordan Hames before they both left the villa.
Jordan and Anna’s romance came to an abrupt end during an explosive row after Jordan decided to pull model India Reynolds for a chat to share his feelings for her whilst in a committed relationship with Anna.
Although the London based pharmacist was embarrassed and angry over Jordan’s actions at the time, now she has left the ITV2 dating show she now feels as though he actually humiliated himself.
In an interview with New! magazine, Anna said: “When he first did it, I felt like he was making an idiot out of me, but looking back I feel like he’s made himself look like an idiot. It was really upsetting and I was very angry, but it was a blessing in disguise and I’ve dodged a bullet.”
Anna did receive an apology from Jordan but she didn’t think it was “genuine” and she doesn’t want anything more to do with him.
She said: “I am disappointed in him. I think the way he’s acted is one of the worst ways I’ve seen anyone act in my whole life. He’s completely irrelevant to me now.”
The 24-year-old brunette insists her feelings for Jordan were 100 per cent real but she now thinks that he never truly liked her the same, but she is relieved that they didn’t make love in the villa before their acrimonious break-up.
When asked if they’d had sex, she answered: “No, and thank God I didn’t! It would have made it even worse. It was very hard not to, but I managed to resist and I’m so happy I did!”

Jack Farthing is pleased people want more Poldark

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Farthing thinks it’s the right decision to end ‘Poldark’ whilst viewers still want more.
The 33 year-old actor plays George Warleggan in the BBC One period drama and he and his castmates, including Aidan Turner as the titular character, are saying goodbye to the programme once series five has finished airing.
Jack insists it is better to end on a high than go on too long, especially as there is the potential to return in the future as there are more novels about the character by Winston Graham set in 18th century Cornwall.
Speaking to The Independent, Jack said: “It’s good that ‘Poldark’ is ending when people are still interested in it – that’s obviously a privileged position to be in, because things can go on for too long. Isn’t it amazing when a show like ‘Fleabag’ says, ‘Right, we’re done’? It’s so refreshing, it’s classy and it makes you appreciate the material that’s there. I’m glad that Poldark’s ending in a similar position, and it’s nice to end on a series that feels more Debbie (Horsfield)’s than Winston’s in a way.”
Jack has portrayed sneering villain Warleggan opposite Aidan’s knight in shining armour Poldark since the reboot began in 2015 and he hopes that viewers have seen many more sides to alter ego as the show has progressed.
Speaking about his role, he said: “Who knows if I’ve succeeded? But as the show goes on you see all these different sides of George’s grief and I wanted all of them to be grounded in reality, rather than if we were conjuring up some cartoon version.
“George is an actor himself, in a way. He’s presenting the world with this version of himself, of this powerful aristocrat, and the person he wants to convince the most is himself.
“When someone like that exists, performatively, I feel they’re always building up to a higher place so there’s a bigger fall waiting to happen. You can’t exist in character all the time, eventually you’ll expose yourself to the world.”

Stacey Dooley says romance with Kevin Clifton is ‘amazing’

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Dooley admits her romance with Kevin Clifton is “amazing”.
The 32-year-old television presenter began dating the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional after the pair won the 2018 series of the BBC ballroom show, and the star has gushed about her relationship with the BBC dancer insisting she is “happy” and feels “very lucky” to have him.
In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, she said: “Kev and I have agreed not to go into too much detail about our private lives because you can’t really indulge that and then ask for privacy.
“That’s why we’ve turned down interviews that have offered us tens of thousands of pounds. What I am happy to say is Kev’s amazing, I’m happy, life happens, I’ve got an amazing career and I’m very lucky.”
And Stacey thought she deserved to win the prestigious Glitterball trophy because she “worked really hard” to win the series, and had no idea how to do the “waltz” before starring on the show.
Opening up about last year’s ‘Strictly’ final, she said: “I thought: ‘Why not? Someone’s got to win it.’
“Yes! [I deserved to win] I worked really hard. I didn’t know how to waltz beforehand, I didn’t know what a ballroom frame looked like.”
The BBC Three star made her name making documentaries about serious social issues has also hit back at her critics who claim she has turned her back on serious topics since bagging the glitterball trophy, insisting it is “an unfair statement”.
She said: “Yeah, I think that’s an unfair statement. When you win ‘Strictly’, you can go down two paths. All the offers come in, and you can do very little work and put your name to things for lots of money, or you can go back to making documentaries in Syria and Nigeria and work really bloody hard.
“I said no to a lot of things I didn’t believe in. It’s not that I’m holier than thou, it’s just that it wasn’t for me. So I went back to the day job.”

John Barrowman to co-host I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp with Emily Atack?

OHMYGOSSIP — John Barrowman is reportedly in talks to co-host ‘I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp’ with Emily Atack.
Following the news that Scarlet Moffatt and Joe Swash quit the ITV2 show, it was reported that the former ‘Inbetweeners’ actress was being eyed for the role alongside Joel Dommett, who is staying put on the show, after winning over the nation with her “bubbly personality” during her stint in the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Of Of Here!’ jungle last year.
And now an insider has claimed Emily is set to be reunited with her campmate from the 2018 series – which saw Harry Redknapp crowned King of the Jungle – on the spin-off programme.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “Producers loved John and Emily together last year and were looking for formats for them once they left Australia.
“When the chance to do ‘Extra Camp’ came up ITV bosses thought it made sense.
“Joel can hold it together, as he’s done the show before, and the newbies can bring their own madness to the table. It’s all but a done deal.”
Joe announced his departure from ‘Extra Camp’ after a decade to spend more time with his family after he and Stacey Solomon welcomed their first child together, Rex, in May.
The father-of-two – who also has 12-year-old son Harry with his ex-fiancee Emma Sophocleous – wrote on Instagram: “I can’t believe I’m about to say this … For 10 incredible years I’ve been lucky enough to host my favourite show on telly. I don’t want to miss a second with Stacey and our amazing boys so 3 months in Australia just seems too [much] to bare this year.”
And ‘Gogglebox’ star Scarlett – who joined the spin-off show in 2017, after being crowned Queen of the Jungle the year before – revealed she is working on a mystery project with her family.

Luca Guadagnino to ‘direct and produce’ Lord of the Flies

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Call Me By Your Name’ director Luca Guadagnino is reportedly in talks to helm the ‘Lord of the Flies’ remake.
According to Variety, the Italian filmmaker has been in discussion with Warner Bros. – who won the rights to the original 1954 William Golding novel of the same name – to seal a deal which would also see him produce the project.
Back in 2017, plans were announced for an all-female cast but this is no longer said to be the case after a major backlash.
The plot follows a group of British boys who become stranded on a desert island and are forced to fend for themselves and organise their own mini-society, Scott McGehee and David Siegel were originally set to write and direct the adaptation and it was their idea to replace the key characters.
At the time, Siegel said: “We want to do a very faithful but contemporised adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys. It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behaviour they saw in grownups before they were marooned.”
The storyline sees the well-educated children descend into savagery with Golding’s three central characters – Ralph, Piggy and Jack – turning on each other, and McGhee had hinted that their movie will confront the stigma that boys are more likely to be aggressive than girls.
He added: “It shifts things in a way that might help people see the story anew. It breaks away from some of the conventions, the ways we think of boys and aggression.”
However, their plans came under fire from critics who said a female director should be assigned to the movie.
It’s not the first time the 1954 novel has been reworked for the big screen as director Peter Brook adapted it 1963 and Harry Hook in 1990.

Ansel Elgort teases Baby Driver sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Ansel Elgort says there is likely to be a ‘Baby Driver’ sequel.
The 25-year-old actor – who starred in the original 2017 movie alongside Lily James and Jon Hamm – has confirmed he has seen Edgar Wright’s script for the follow-on movie and believes it will be filmed under a different title.
Speaking about the script, he told MTV News: “He has shared it with me. Yes, I think it’s going to happen. I think there will be a ‘Baby Driver 2’. It has a different title, actually. You’re gonna have to have to ask Edgar that, though.”
Wright had previously teased a potential ‘Baby Driver’ sequel in a post to mark the one-year anniversary of the crime thriller movie’s release.
Alongside an anniversary-themed poster of the movie, Edgar wrote: “‘Baby Driver’ was released one year ago today. Had a wild ride with it in the last 365 days. so I thank you for all your beautiful responses, it means everything. And who knows, maybe he could get back on the road soon … (sic)”
James also previously admitted she relished the experience of working with Wright and her co-star Ansel, who plays the getaway driver Baby.
The British actress – who stars as Debora, a young waitress and Baby’s love interest – shared: “I think it’s credit to Edgar Wright – his script is really beautifully written and constructed and he’s really clever. He’s such an amazing storyteller and he does it through images and shots, so he makes us care for Baby and then Debora and then puts them together. He’s manipulated it all, so I think our chemistry is real – not to give too much credit away, we owned it – but I do think Edgar was very clever at constructing that.”
