Halle Bailey to star in coming-of-age musical inspired by Pharrell Williams

OHMYGOSSIP — Halle Bailey has been cast in the Universal musical inspired by Pharrell Williams.
The 24-year-old star joins Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Kelvin Harrison Jr. in the untitled coming-of-age movie that is being directed by Michel Gondry.
The film is set in the summer of 1977 at Virginia Beach and takes inspiration from Williams’ childhood neighbourhood of Atlantis Apartments.
Gondry is directing from a script by Martin Hynes and Steven Levenson with Pharrell, Mimi Valdes and Gil Netter all serving as producers.
Halle played the lead role in the live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ last year and valued the cultural impact of being the first black actress to star as Ariel.
She told Deadline at the film’s premiere: “This moment means everything to me, I’m so grateful to be here.
“I just feel really honoured and I’m happy the day has finally come where we can all watch it.”
Bailey’s casting in the picture became a trend on social media when the trailer for the remake was released but she hoped that young people of colour would “see a reflection of themselves” on the big screen.
The actress said: “It means the world to me, especially for the beautiful babies to be able to see a reflection of themselves. I am just honoured to be a part of this and be one of the princesses now because for me it was Brandy as Cinderella and then Anika Rose as Princess Tiana.
“So the fact that I am getting to continue this and live on this legacy is really exciting and I’m just grateful.”

Rufus Sewell had to give a fair depiction of Prince Andrew in Scoop

OHMYGOSSIP — Rufus Sewell was determined to portray Prince Andrew “fairly” in ‘Scoop’.
The 56-year-old actor plays the scandal-hit Duke of York in the Netflix movie about his ‘Newsnight’ interview regarding his connection to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and set out to give a balanced depiction of the royal.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Rufus said: “It was resisting the temptation to slant one way or another.
“In the middle of it is a human being and humans are a strange mixture. People who do good things can be unpleasant, people who are nice can be evil, people who do terrible things can do good things. And people who do great things can occasionally do bad. It’s mixed up.
“(I endeavoured to) put everything, as I saw it, in there, including uncomfortable levels of positivity as well as negativity.”
Andrew’s disastrous 2019 interview with Emily Maitlis is a familiar tale for the public but Sewell’s co-star Keeley Hawes had a different task as she had to bring the relatively unknown Amanda Thirsk – the prince’s former private secretary – to life in the film.
The ‘Bodyguard’ actress explained: “On the one hand, that was a difficult part, and on the other, that was quite luxurious compared with what everybody else had to go through – that I was able to sort of create something of my own in Amanda.”
Keeley, 48, acknowledged that there is an additional acting challenge when it comes to portraying real-life figures on screen.
She said: “Obviously they’re aware there’s so much of this in the public domain – this is a story we’re allowed to tell.
“And, yeah, it’s always difficult showing real people, living or dead, because even if they’re no longer with us, their families are, and you have a responsibility to someone.”

Speaking on the ‘Should I Delete That?’ podcast, she said: “We’ve had to have panic buttons put in. I was getting descriptions of how I and my children should die. The most horrific things. When we go out, we’re careful..”
The ‘Nadiya Bakes’ star recently explained that she “never expected” the success that came her way after her victory on the BBC programme.
She told OK! Magazine: “I never imagined I would be where I am today. I am loving every second. When I wrote my first cookbook I thought, ‘Well, this is the first and only cookbook I will ever write,’ and here I am, still writing cookbooks. So that is pretty special. I don’t take it for granted. kept saying to everyone in the crew, ‘You guys have a much harder job than I do.’ And they were like, ‘You realise that none of us can do what you do? Like none of us can do what you do.’ I’m like, ‘That’s not true…’ And a few years ago, it dawned on me that you can’t do this unless you’re good at it. I have to believe I’m good at it. I can’t run on luck forever!”

Stacey Solomon could become a major star in the US

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Solomon could be about to crack America.
The 34-year-old presenter has carved out a successful career in the UK since she appeared as a contestant on ‘The X Factor’ in 2009 and currently fronts ‘Sort Your Life Out’ for the BBC but now that she is to take the reins on the Reese Witherspoon-produced ‘Renovation Rescue’ for Channel 4, insiders have predicted that she could also become a household name across the pond.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Renovation shows are a mega business in America. There are entire channels dedicated to them.
“And they love Brits. ‘Bake Off’ is popular in the States because Americans love Paul and Prue’s Britishness.
“‘Grand Designs’ is also very popular in America because of Kevin McCloud.
“They think viewers will fall for Stacey’s English charm, and the Reese connection is a big enabler.
“They launched a UK arm of ‘Hello Sunshine’ to create formats that could sell in Britain first then around the world. It’s all set up.”
Towards the end of last month, ‘Loose Women’ panellist Stacey was left shocked to learn that she would be working with Hollywood star Reese on the project.
She told MailOnline: “Oh my God, what an amazing feeling to be asked. I was genuinely like, ‘How does she even know me?’ I still to this day don’t know how they found me. They just said they wanted me. Maybe some of her researchers and her team had seen the show. Well, they would have had to, I guess, to know anything about me.
“I haven’t actually met her. She wrote a message to say how excited she is and we’re hoping to FaceTime her on the day the show goes out. She seems pretty busy changing the world for women in our industry, so that’s OK, I’ll let her off for not coming to Bradford to see us shooting an episode!”
In ‘Renovation Rescue’ Stacey helps couples who have been abandoned by untrustworthy tradespeople.
She said: “Don’t get me wrong, there are always going to be jobs where the professionals are needed. I can’t build a house myself.
“There are so many amazing tradesmen out there, but they’re hard to find and if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can end up spending loads of money and never getting anything back, which is just devastating.”

Loose Women’s Kaye Adams reveals the one body part she is still proud of

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaye Adams is “proud” of her strong bladder.
The 61-year-old journalist – who is best known as a long-serving anchor on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ – revealed that her bladder is “excellent” and that it is the “only thing” she has left to brag to friends about because she doesn’t have to get up in the middle of the night to use the toilet.
Speaking on her ‘How to Be 60’ podcast, she said: “The only thing that I’m still proud of is my bladder. I’ve got an excellent bladder. My pelvic floor is shot to bits but I can sleep through the night and now I have friends of a similar age who talk about getting up in the middle of the night. Instead of boasting about my arms or my boobs or whatever I tell them that I have got an excellent bladder.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant had been to a Pilates class just before recording her podcast and explained she had a sudden realistion that she could no longer see her ribs so when she got home she stood in front of her mirror naked trying to spot them.
She said: “I was at my Pilates during the week, and I was doing very well, very proud of myself because I’m at least double the age of anyone else in the class and I kept up pretty well. But of course, all of the other young women have got their crop tops on. And there’s no way I’m going for a crop top.
“So did the Pilates, all good, feeling good and all the rest of it and you do a stretch at the end. I’m looking at all the young girls with all the crop tops thinking ‘F****** hell, you’ve got ribs!’
“I have not seen my ribs…I can’t remember the last time…I can feel them, I just can’t see them.
“I came home, had a shower and was standing in front of the mirror naked with my hands in the air trying to see my ribs. And I couldn’t see them. When I brought them down, the gravity was quite painful!”

Love Island star Casey O’Gorman reveals why he is no longer a ‘serial dater’

OHMYGOSSIP — Casey O’Gorman hasn’t been on a date since leaving ‘Love Island’.
The 27-year-old reality star took part in the hit ITV2 dating series in January 2023 and returned for the ‘All Stars’ version of the show earlier this year but revealed that is no longer a “serial dater” because of the pitfalls of being in the public eye.
He told OK!: “I used to be this serial dater and would go on dates two or three days a week before I went on ‘Love Island’, but now I’ve not been on one since I came out of the villa.
“I don’t really like to anymore unless it’s something serious and with a girl I like. Otherwise, we get seen at a restaurant and someone takes a picture and then it just fizzles out, or I get seen with a girl and it’s like ‘sparks romance rumours.”
But Casey – who was coupled up with the likes of Lana Jenkins during his initial stint and then with Eve Gale for a period of time on the ‘All Stars’ version – is keen to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Islanders by appearing on shows like ‘Celebs Go Dating’ in a bid to find romance.
He said: “I think I would. I know people, like Josh Ritchie who’s done ‘Celebs Go Dating’ and he said it’s good fun.
“And I feel like I’d love something like that because at the end of the day any chance in getting myself a girlfriend that’s something that might benefit me, and maybe something were I’m paired up with someone by dating experts that could maybe be better for me.
“I’ve never had a dating specialist organise a date for me before so why not give it a go? I mean anything’s better than my current situation now.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ralf Little didn’t want to leave ‘Death in Paradise’.
The 44-year-old actor bowed out of his role as DI Neville Parker on the hit BBC mystery series in scenes that aired towards the end of March after four years on the show but admitted that he would have been happy to stay for a lot longer.
Speaking on ‘BBC Breakfast’, he said: “This last series was always going to be my last series, I had talks with the BBC, and with Red Planet, the production company and we all agreed that it just felt… if it was in my heart, like if it was just a heart decision, I’d have wanted to do it for 20 more years.”
However, the ‘Royle Family’ star knew that his character’s journey had come to a natural conclusion and admitted that the way he was written out felt “right” in the end.
He added: “But just for the show, and… for my character Neville, it just sort of felt like his story… it deserved to be sort of finished and his sort of journey… sort of deserved to be completed and he deserved a nice happy ending and so it just felt right.”
Ralf recently admitted that he had “no idea” when he signed up for the part whether viewers would take to him in the role at was surprised that he ended up staying for as long as he did.
He said: “My time on Saint Marie has come to an end – what an end! New adventures await Neville, and he got to sail away into the sunset with his best friend. Who knows what happens for them
next! I want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who watched and supported the show when I arrived four and a half years ago.
“Coming into a series beloved by millions was a huge responsibility and I had no idea whether viewers would take to my interpretation of Neville’s character, and indeed to me.
“It was quite a relief that the response has been overwhelming, and it’s been an absolute privilege and a pleasure to bring Neville Parker to all of you and to share his quite profound journey with you. “I can’t thank you all enough for the support over the last four and a half years. ”

Rita Ora debuts Queen of Hearts costume for Descendants: The Rise of Red

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora has unveiled her Queen of Hearts costume for her role in ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’.
The 33-year-old star showed off her red gown for the part she will play in the musical fantasy movie, which will be released on the streaming service Disney+ in July.
Rita portrays the antagonist of Lewis Carroll’s famous novel ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and her alter ego is the mother of the film’s lead character Red – who is played by YouTube star Kylie Cantrall.
An Instagram post shared jointly by the ‘Anywhere’ singer and Disney was captioned: “All hail the Queen of Hearts. Descendants: #TheRiseofRed, a Disney Original Movie, is available July 12 on @disneyplus.”
The ‘Descendants’ series began back in 2015 and centres on the children of villains from Disney classics as they rebel against the evil antics of their parents.
It is the latest acting role that Rita has taken on – after she featured in the ‘Fifty Shades’ franchise and the fantasy flick ‘Wonderwell’ – and she previously explained that she doesn’t want to “limit” her creativity to just music.
She said: “I’ve had 13 top ten singles in the UK without being born here, and only hard work got me here — along with the support of my family, friends and fans. So I’m determined to keep going. I want to do more films, more TV and more fashion.
“I want to create on all platforms because I grew up watching my idols like Madonna, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, Cher and Marilyn Monroe. They showed you don’t have to stick to one thing, you can do everything. Creating isn’t limited to one department — and that’s what I love about what I do.”

Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde join forces for Avengelyne adaptation

OHMYGOSSIP — Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde are teaming up for a movie adaptation of ‘Avengelyne’.
The ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ filmmaker is set to direct the superhero picture about the comic book character from ‘Deadpool’ creator Rob Liefeld with Margot producing alongside her LuckyChap Entertainment partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.
Simon Kinberg, a writer and producer on the ‘X-Men’ movies, is also set to produce the film – which will be pitched to studios and streamers in the coming weeks.
It is not yet known who will take on the role of Avengelyne, an angel who fights against evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters.
Previous attempts to make a film about the character were unsuccessful, with Gina Carano attached to star in a 2013 adaptation while a 2016 version directed by Akiva Goldsman failed to get off the ground.
Margot, 33, has produced successful movies including ‘Promising Young Woman’ and ‘Saltburn’ for LuckyChap and explained that she is tempted to get behind the camera and direct a film herself in the future.
Asked when she could helm a picture, the ‘Barbie’ actress told Variety: “I don’t know. The tricky thing is, as much as I say I’m strict about saying no as a producer, I also get so excited with all the things that I could produce that it ends up taking all my time.
“And as an actor, I get to work with so many brilliant directors and watch them do it – it’s like having a front-row seat to the best master class in the world. So it’s really tempting to keep doing that. But directing is a dear ambition of mine.”

Vivian Oparah thinks she’d ‘enjoy the challenge’ of portraying The Joker

OHMYGOSSIP — Vivian Oparah wants to play The Joker.
The 27-year-old star – who was nominated for the Leading Actress BAFTA for her work on ‘Rye Lane’ – has always been “obsessed” with the late Heath Ledger’s depiction of the DC villain in ‘The Dark Knight’ and thinks she’d enjoy the “challenge” of taking on the iconic role.
She told Rolling Stone UK: “I’m obsessed with Heath Ledger’s performance.
“But I feel like playing a heightened comic book villain who somehow still feels normal, but has the weirdest physicality, would be a real challenge.
“I’m often described as ‘the Trickster’, like, that’s my archetype. So, I think I could slip into it really well.”
And the ‘Dead Hot’ actress is also keen to take on more “fantastical” roles or a sci-fi project.
She said: “I can definitely see myself stepping into more fantastical worlds like the ones Yorgo Lanthimos creates.
“They still feel super grounded. I’d step into a ‘Star Wars’-like universe because I’m a sci-fi and fantasy geek at heart.
“But I also enjoy the intimacy of human-to-human connection and grounded, quiet stories.”
Vivian is also keen to step behind the camera in the future.
She revealed: “I’ve been writing a lot. Stories were my first love.
“Maybe directing when I get a little bit older. I’m still a baby.”
And that’s not all, because after releasing the song ‘FOUL’ as Vivian Forever last year, the ‘I May Destroy You’ actress is also keen to work on more music.
She said: “I’m finding the time to make it. Music has been more of an anchor for me the past year than something I’m working on career wise.
“The dream is to write, star in and do the score for a film. We’ll see how that all pans out.”
Rufus Sewell’s “feelings of distaste and horror” about Prince Andrew’s behaviour are “quite clear”.
The xx-year-old actor portrays the disgraced royal in ‘Scoop’, a movie documenting the prince’s infamous ‘Newsnight’ interview with Emily Maitlis about his friendship with late paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, and while he hasn’t made any “final judgements” about Andrew himself, he hopes his thoughts are clear in his performance.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: “I haven’t made any final judgements about him as a person when I’m doing it.
“My feelings of distaste and horror about things that he may or may not be guilty of and my own personal feelings in the performance are quite clear.
“But I’d rather my performance speak for me.”
Rufus felt his “discomfort” in playing the role had to be “different” to that experienced by the prince.
He said: “My discomfort has to be different from Andrew’s discomfort.
“So much of his discomfort is about having to disguise the fact he feels betrayed and wounded and afraid.
“Though I can’t speak with any authority, I believe the fact that he feels tremendous guilt about certain things but also a tremendous sense of victimisation.”
The actor was fascinated by the “misdirected truths” told by Andrew in the original interview.
He said: “One of the things that was most interesting is how often he was telling the truth.
“And a lot of what he’s trying to do is re-explain. There’s a lot of misdirected truths there.
“So you can say, for example, ‘I have no memory of someone.’
“And that might be true, but not for a good reason.”
Rufus joked he was happy to take on the role because he knew he won’t be recognised in any of King Charles’ honours lists.
Asked if he has made peace with the fact he’s unlikely to be offered an honour now, he said: “I came to peace with that a long time ago.
“So, I may as well play Andrew.”

Jennifer Lopez’s ‘unfiltered’ documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Access to Jennifer Lopez was “unfiltered” for her documentary ‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’.
Director Jason Bergh has worked with the singer and actress for years and he revealed she was generous with her time and access but her best friend also filmed some of the more intimate moments.
He told Variety: “It was implicit, which comes when you work with someone for so long. I also give a lot of credit to Ana Carballosa, who is Jennifer’s best friend. She had a camera too and was there for things I couldn’t get. Access was unfiltered and then in the edit we decided if something served our story or not. Sure, it’s revelatory, but we’re very relaxed with each other.”
Jason was also given access to Jennifer’s husband Ben Affleck and manager Benny Medina and praised both for being so open.
He said: “Medina! I call him Uncle Benny because he’s been such a huge supporter of mine. The whole camp is very big on story – making sure we have a beginning, middle and end. Ben is amazing too. He’s a great filmmaker who understands the process and is extremely supportive. I had to pinch myself, honestly. I moved out to Los Angeles 20-something years ago, and always have dreamed of being in this position.”
‘The Greatest Love Story Never Told’ is a documentary about the making of Lopez’s 2024 visual album ‘This Is Me … Now’ and Jason worked hard to help Jennifer stay ‘unguarded”.
He said: “There are two very powerful moments in ‘This Is Me … Now,’ for the songs ‘Broken Like Me’ and ‘Rebound.’ When we were shooting ‘Broken,’ you could hear a pin drop. There are 100 people on set, but there she is, just digging this pain out of herself. This raw emotion through dance and music. I am an emotional dude, and you can’t help but be drawn in with her in those moments. As a documentarian, I had to be very cautious about how I document those moments because I want her to stay unguarded. I shot with longer lenses and from further distances, and worked my way in.

Toy Story 5 gets release date

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Toy Story 5’ will be released on June 19, 2026.
The first movie in Pixar’s franchise was released in 1995, with the fourth film dropping in 2019 and Disney has now announced that the fifth will be released in 2026.
All four movies so far have featured Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced in February 2023 that there would be a fifth movie but did not give any details.
However, in November 2023, Allen revealed he and Hanks had both been approached about reprising their roles.
Speaking on ‘The Tonight Show’, he said: “Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on and actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles. They’re not saying anything about it…You wonder if four was too many. Is five going to be too much?
“According to the scuttlebutt, the writer that’s doing it wrote one of the better ones and said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it.’ It could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it.”
In the fifth movie, Buzz and Woody will need to be reunited after the fourth film ended with them going their separate ways as the pull-string cowboy toy left the rest of the gang to stay with Bo Beep.
Allen has an idea for how to bring the gang back together though, and he thinks their first human owner Andy could be the key.
He told That Movie Dweeb: “I don’t know if this is where the story is going, but what if the whole story was through Andy as an adult?
“[He] has children, and they just happen to be online, and the kid goes, ‘Have you ever seen this toy?’
“And Andy sees that Buzz has got a hand missing and they’re selling these vintage toys, and Andy goes and gathers all the toys up.
“He has to go out and find each one of them and put them back together, bring them back to his house, and start the whole thing over again with his son…
Spinoff ‘Lightyear’ – which told the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy – was released in 2022 and voice starred Chris Evans.

Netflix splashing out for Bear Hunt success

OHMYGOSSIP — Netflix is splashing out £10million to secure huge stars for new reality show ‘Bear Hunt’.
Holly Willoughby will front the celebrity competition show, which will see famous faces face off against survival expert Bear Grylls in various challenges in the South American jungle and Netflix bosses are sparing no expense to make it a success.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “On similar celebrity-led challenge shows like ‘Strictly’ and ‘I’m a Celeb’, the line-ups often vary from little-known people to established stars.
“Netflix are determined their collection will be largely killer, with very little filler. They’re not scrimping on paying six-figure fees and aren’t afraid to cough up more for the biggest names.
“They’ll be shelling out an eight-figure sum in all, so the cast will be one of the most expensive in reality TV history.”
The show will air on the streaming service next year.
Netflix previously announced on Instagram: “Introducing Bear Hunt – this new action-packed competition show sees a group of unlikely British celebrities dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for one of the world’s most fearsome predators… @beargrylls! Hosted by @hollywilloughby – coming to Netflix in 2025.”
Holly then shared the post on her Instagram Story with the caption: “Breaking News”.
A source told The Sun newspaper the show was a “significant challenge” for Holly as it will mark her first show away from terrestrial television.
The 43-year-old star was first mooted as host of the show in January.
A source said at the time: “Bear is working with a production company for Netflix. They want Holly to host.
“A group of celebrities will be put into a jungle where they will have to tackle a series of challenges.
“She is very glamorous and an accomplished host.
“Holly is open to offers. She won’t be rushing into anything and will be carefully cherry-picking her next projects.”
It won’t be Holly’s first time presenting in the jungle, after she co-hosted one series of ITV’s ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2018 alongside Declan Donnelly, temporarily taking the place of Dec’s regular co-presenter Ant McPartlin.

Hannah Waddingham in talks for Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Hannah Waddingham is in talks for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Ted Lasso’ actress – who is a close friend of judge Anton Du Beke and his wife Hannah – has reportedly been approached by BBC bosses about taking part in the 2024 season and is said to be seriously considering it.
A source told The Mirror: “Hannah would be an incredible signing for ‘Strictly’ this year, and so far things are looking very positive.
“She loves the show – she has heard so much about it from Anton and Hannah, as she is a close friend to both – and is keen to do it. It’s just a question of whether or not it’s possible to fit it into her schedule – obviously it’s a very big commitment, and she is incredibly in demand at the moment.”
‘Game of Thrones’ actress Hannah, 49, won an Emmy in 2021 for her role as Rebecca Welton in AppleTV’s ‘Ted Lasso’.
She co-hosted the Eurovision in May with Graham Norton and Alesha Dixon and went on to become the face of the M S Christmas advert.
She also performed at this year’s BAFTAs.
The source added: “Hannah is fast approaching national treasure status, and the ‘Strictly’ bosses know she’d be a smash hit with fans. So they are doing everything they can to make it work on their side, and hoping that they can encourage her to sign on the dotted line – it would be a real coup for them to get her on board.”
