Corrie confirm Jennie McAlpine’s return storyline

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Fiz Stape will return to Weatherfield to find Tyrone Dobbs has made a huge error involving her daughter Hope.
Jennie McAlpine recently returned to filming on the soap after being on maternity leave, and ITV have confirmed her comeback plot will see Fiz turn up at the school for an emergency meeting after Tyrone (Alan Halsall) forgot to enrol Hope for the new term.
With Tyrone trying to convince the Bessie Street head teacher to allow Hope to attend for the start of the academic year, the situation turns chaotic when his grandmother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) rocks up to the school armed with homemade banners to try to plead Hope’s case.
Jennie recently admitted she felt as though she was thrown in at the deep end upon her return to filming, rather than be eased in.
She said: “I’ve got out of the habit of [learning lines], but actually it is just like riding a bike and I kind of just did it.
“They do that to you at ‘Corrie’ – I think they do it on purpose, they’re a bit cruel to be kind – they just threw me right in, day one.”
Jennie – who has four-year-old son Albert and nine-month-old daughter Hilda with her husband Chris Farr – previously admitted she was nervous about being back on set, but bosses had reassured her that there wouldn’t be too much pressure.
She said: “It feels a bit like going back to school after the summer holiday, I’ve got butterflies. I’m worried I don’t have enough space left in my brain to learn all my lines. But the producers have promised I’ll be eased in gently.
“It’s probably a good thing Corrie doesn’t have a crèche. I’d always be disappearing from set to see her. We have a great support network around us too, who can help. We’re very lucky.”

Hollyoaks’ Nadine Mulkerrin pleased with ‘fitting’ exit plot

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadine Mulkerrin says her ‘Hollyoaks’ exit plot is “quite fitting” because there are comparisons to her first major storyline.
The 26-year-old star will depart her role as Cleo McQueen in the Channel 4 soap to go on maternity leave, and she is excited about her exit storyline, which will see her boyfriend Mitchell Deveraux (Imran Adams) grow closer to Scott Drinkwell’s (Ross Adams) drag alter-ego Anita Tinkle.
The plot is similar to her initial storyline when her love interest Harry Thompson – who was played by Parry Glasspool – struggled with his sexuality while they were together.
She said: “This is not Cleo’s first boyfriend to secretly like men. She went through a similar thing with Harry. That was my first storyline in the show, so it’s quite fitting that this will be my last one before I go out for maternity leave!
“I’m glad the other person in the love triangle is Scott, because he’s a character who you really root for as well. Cleo and Scott can never catch a break. Hopefully they won’t fall out, as I don’t want them to.”
Nadine is also hopeful the LGBTQ+ community will approve of the storyline.
She added to Digital Spy: “I definitely think the story will be explored sensitively.
“We want the LGBTQ+ community to like it, so it will be told in a way that’s respectful.”
Nadine is expecting her first child with her boyfriend and ‘Hollyoaks’ co-star Rory Douglas-Speed (Joel Dexter), who announced the news ahead of the British Soap Awards in June.
He wrote on Instagram: “That’s us THREE ready for the @thebritishsoapawards (sic)”
Nadine shared the same picture with an identical caption.
The post was also shared on ‘Hollyoaks’ official Instagram account, captioning it “BEST. NEWS. EVER. (sic)”

Olivia Colman wants Bond 25 role

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Colman wants a role in ‘Bond 25’.
The 45-year-old actress revealed that she’s tried getting a role in the forthcoming instalment in the James Bond franchise by asking her pal Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is currently polishing the script for the spy film, if she could write her a part.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly whether her ‘Fleabag’ co-star Phoebe could write her into the script, the ‘Crown’ star said: “Oh, trust me, I’ve tried! I’ve asked!”
The ‘Favourite’ star went on to speak about starring alongside Phoebe, 34, in the BBC Three sitcom ‘Fleabag’ and confessed that she begged the creator to let her appear in the show.
She said: “I think I begged Phoebe to be in it, when she was writing the first [season].”
Olivia plays the godmother of lead character Fleabag (Waller-Bridge) in the show, the former best friend of her late mother, who is now in a relationship with Fleabag’s widowed father and has a problematic relationship with both Fleabag and her sister Claire (Sian Clifford).
The ‘Peep Show’ actress went on to admit that prior to the script being written, she’d asked Phoebe to make her character a “total ****” and was more than happy playing the “baddie” in the show.
She said:”I will be eternally grateful to Phoebe, because she said, ‘What sort of things do you want to say?’ And I went, ‘Could you write me someone who’s a total ****?
“So she made up this person for me. Yeah. I always wanted to play the baddie and she’s written a really good one.”

Kym Marsh gives suppot to Faye Brookes

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh has given her support to Faye Brookes following her split from Gareth Gates.
The 43-year-old actress messaged her former ‘Coronation Street’ co-star when she heard she’d ended her engagement to the pop star but she thinks it is better the pair made the “brave” decision to call off their wedding rather than end things further down the line.
Writing in her column for OK! magazine, she said: “I sent Faye a text to let her know I’m thinking of her and I said I hoped she was doing OK.
“As sad as it is, it’s better to split before walking down the aisle with someone than marrying someone knowing it’s not the right thing to do.
“Sometimes the bravest and best thing you can do is walk away from the relationship.”
Faye and Gareth had a seven-year on/off relationship before getting engaged in January and it was recently claimed they had tried their best to “make it work” between them but ultimately decided just to be friends.
A source said last week: “Faye and Gareth are both extremely sad about their relationship ending. They still care very much about each other and want to remain friends, but the wedding has been called off. They tried to make it work but sadly it’s not meant to be.”
News of their split came just months after 31-year-old Faye insisted they will “never take each other for granted again”.
Speaking in March this year about their last split – which saw them separate in September 2018 – Faye said: “It was for the right reasons for sure. I feel like we’ll never take each other for granted ever again.
“Work took over and we ended up missing each other so much that we were missing life together.
“We are enjoying engagement but obviously I’ve been dreaming of this [wedding] day since I was a little girl.”

Will Young warned leaving Strictly was a risk

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Young was warned he was “risking” his career if he pulled out of appearing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Leave Right Now’ hitmaker experienced “a lot of nastiness” when he quit the dance contest after just three weeks in 2016 but admitted he shouldn’t have gone ahead with the show at all because he was “very ill” with mental health issues.
He told Event magazine: “I was just very ill. There’s no way I should’ve been doing that show. I tried to back out of it actually. Then got persuaded back by being told, ‘Will the BBC want to work with you? You’re risking a lot.’
“So I did it, but with panic attacks the whole time. I would keep going out for a cigarette and think, ‘I don’t really want to be here.’ Then I thought, ‘I don’t have to be here’, so I left.”
And the 40-year-old star is pleased he made the decision, despite the backlash he experienced.
He said: “It was so liberating, the best thing I ever did. You’ve only got one life.”
Will previously admitted he was so desperate to get out of ‘Strictly’, he looked into how he could get his legs broken so that he’d be unable to dance.
He said: “Mental illness is mental illness. I was unwell. In the weeks leading up to Strictly, all I could think about was how could I get out of doing the show. I knew I didn’t have the strength, that I wasn’t in the right place and that I would do myself real damage. I actually looked into the easiest way to break my legs so I couldn’t dance. That’s how bad it was.”

James Cosmo joins The Bay series 2

OHMYGOSSIP — James Cosmo, Joe Absolom and Stephen Tomkinson are among the stars who have joined ‘The Bay’.
The trio will be joined by fellow show newcomers Sunetra Sarker, Owen McDonnell, Steven Robertson, and Amy James-Kelly for the second series of the ITV drama, alongside returning cast members Morven Christie, Daniel Ryan, Lindsey Coulson, Imogen King, Art Parkinson and Taheen Modak.
Daragh Carville has also returned to pen the second series, which will see Lisa Armstrong (Morven) forced to do menial police work as she watches former newcomer Med (Taheen) go from strength to strength.
The screenwriter said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to the world of ‘The Bay’ and picking up the story of police detective Lisa Armstrong, as she faces massive new challenges both at work and at home.
“We are welcoming back our fantastic core team from series one – led by the extraordinary Morven Christie – we’re also welcoming in a brilliant cast of new faces.

Sky commissions comedy series Frayed

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Webb is to star in a new Sky original comedy series.
The ‘Peep Show’ actor and ‘Motherland’s Diane Morgan will appear alongside creator Sarah Kendall in ‘Frayed’, a six-part show telling the tale of the unravelling of a woman’s seemingly-perfect life.
The programme – a joint venture with ABC Australia – is set in London in 1988 and focuses on Simone Burbeck (Kendall), who lives in a mansion with her husband and children but when her spouse dies after suffering a heart attack while sleeping with a prostitute, her idyllic lifestyle unravels.
Homeless, broke and outcast by her friends, Simone and her family are forced to return to her family in Newcastle, Australia – where it turns out that everything about her life that she told her pals, including her real name, was a lie and her past begins to catch up with her, turning what she expected to be a temporary relocation into something more.
Sarah joked she was delighted to work on the show because it gave her “free flights” to visit her own loved ones.
She said: “I just wanted to visit my family in Newcastle but I ended up shooting a 6 part comedy here for Sky and ABC. I’m incredibly excited to be given this opportunity. And I also love free flights.”
Meanwhile, Sky bosses are delighted with the “ingenious” show, which will hit screens on 26 September.
Sky’s Head of Comedy, Jon Mountague, said: “We can all relate in some way to complex family drama, which is at the heart of this ingeniously written comedy. Sarah Kendall is an exceptional lead and I’m excited to add ‘Frayed’ to Sky’s line-up of original British comedy in 2019.”

Kate Hudson doesn’t miss making films

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Hudson hasn’t missed making movies.
The 40-year-old actress took a break from acting after the birth of her last child Rani Rose, 10 months, with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, and confessed that although she’s found it hard and doesn’t think she’ll ever stop making films, she has enjoyed stepping away from the industry.
In an interview with The Sunday Times’ Stella magazine, she said: “Yeah, I don’t know right now if I have missed making movies all that much. It’s hard. But I grew up on a movie set, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop making movies, whether in front or behind the camera.
“But it’s been nice to step away for a second and rediscover why I love it so much.”
The ‘Almost Famous’ star – who also has children Ryder, 15, with former spouse Chris Robinson and Bingham, eight, with ex-fiance Matt Bellamy – is the daughter of musician Bill Hudson and Hollywood star Goldie Hawn, and has explained that after being raised by her mother and stepfather Kurt Russell, she found life on movie sets normal.
She said: “To us, it was just Mom and Dad at work – it was normal.”
The ‘Bride Wars’ star went on to speak about her forthcoming role in ‘Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon’, where she will be playing a single mother who works as a stripper.
The Ana Lily Amirpour-directed movie has previously been described as “a mind-bending adventure set in the swampy neon-lit streets of New Orleans, and inspired by fantasy-adventure movies of the 1980s and ’90s” and Kate teased that this part is “very different” to her previous roles.
She said: “She’s a stripper, she’s a single mother and she’s crazy – in a great way. It’s a very different character to any I have played before.”

Sam Taylor-Johnson would never want to repeat Fifty Shades directing experience

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Taylor-Johnson would “never want to repeat” the time she spent working on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
The 52-year-old filmmaker, who is married to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 29, confessed that her intense experience directing the first instalment of the erotic drama film series, based on the novel trilogy by E.L James, is not one she wishes to repeat.
In an interview with the Sunday Times’ Stella magazine, she said: “Making that movie taught me so much that I didn’t want to learn and I would never want to repeat those lessons, but it did make me focus on what I do want to do.
“It was an intense; maddening experience – but then, would I have made this movie had not gone through that? It’s that thing of never looking back.”
The ‘Nowhere Boy’ director recently worked on 2018 drama film, ‘A Million Little Pieces’ – based on the novel by James Frey – which follows a young drug-addled writer coming to the end of his time at a detox facility.
Sam’s husband Aaron plays James and Sam revealed that after reading the book originally following its publication in 2003, she knew immediately that she wanted to transform the story into a film.
She said: “The impact on me did not diminish over time. I was an artist and wasn’t making films then, but I tracked it, and when I heard the rights had gone back to James. I got in touch with him and said, ‘I want to make the movie of your book.’ And he was very quiet, and said, “OK.”
“Then he said, ‘I wrote it as art – go and make art. I don’t want any money, I’m not going to be involved – unless you want me to; I’m not going to read the script. I just want you to make your version of it and be as artistic with it as you like. I may not ever see it, but I’m always available if you have any questions’.”

Amy Childs felt pressure to lose baby weight

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Childs felt “pressure” to lose her baby weight.
The ‘Only Way Is Essex’ star – who has two young children, Polly, two, and a 11-month-old son – admits she was in “no rush” to ditch her baby weight like other celebrities might be.
She said: “When I had the baby I was bordering size 14 – and now I’m a size 10. I still want to lose half a stone – but there is no rush. I’m not like the other celeb mums that rush to lose weight – enjoy your babies I say. My babies are older now so I thought it was time to get healthy for myself. I had all these mums saying ‘When are you going to lose your baby weight?’ – and I was just enjoying Polly. I was putting all my time into Polly, I didn’t really eat healthily or work out as much. I was a new mum. I think mums nowadays put so much pressure on themselves to lose their baby weight. But now the kids are getting older, I’m thinking I’m getting more time for me.”
And Amy has revealed she has been training a lot as of late, now her kids are a little older.
She told The Sun Online: “I am training a lot – I’m training four times a week. I’m eating really healthy – I’m on a really amazing diet. I used to skip it but now I’m eating breakfast, the most important meal of the day. There is no pressure for me to lose my baby weight – and that is an important message for all the mums out there. Enjoy your babies, they grow up too quickly. There are certain celebs, I won’t say any names, who have lost all of their baby weight. But my priority was being a full time mum and not really worrying about that.”

Shirley Ballas would marry boyfriend ‘tomorrow’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas would marry her boyfriend “tomorrow” if he asked her.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge – who has been married twice before – admits she has never experienced a feeling before like she has with Danny Taylor, who she met while starring alongside him in pantomime ‘Jack And The Beanstalk’ last year.
She said: “I would marry him tomorrow, if he asked me. If this is what love is I have never experienced it before.”
Shirley admits the pair were friends at first before hooking up a few months later.
She added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “I met him in late November and he was going through a difficult time with his ex.
“I met him at a difficult time in his life and we became friends first. We did not get together until February as a couple.”
The ballroom dancer was previously married to fellow performer Sammy Stopford from 1980 to 1984, and she later wed Corky Ballas from 1985 to 2007.
Shirley previously claimed her second husband Corky cheated on her – but insisted she “deserved it”.
She said: “During my time with Corky there was infidelity there and I just put it down to, ‘I probably deserved it,’ and it was karma.
“I think when you get married so young, every seven years it changes and your outlook changes and probably I should’ve waited to get married until I was much older.”
When asked to clarify if she believed Corky’s alleged infidelity was because she had cheated before, Shirley – who shares son Mark Ballas, 33, with him – replied: “It’s not about him, because we have a beautiful son together and I forgive him for anything that’s written about me.
“But I just thought perhaps it was karma.”

Charlotte Dawson: I’m like Les Dawson in drag

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlotte Dawson feels like her late father Les Dawson “in drag”.
The 26-year-old star – who recently landed her own show, ‘Love Squad’ – was only eight months old when her comedian dad died of a heart attack aged 62, and she feels “so much closer to him” now that she is following in his TV presenting footsteps.
She said: “I am him. I am my dad in drag, literally.
“I just think I’ve been born him, I’m just a miracle child that’s Les Dawson.
“My middle name is Lesley. Charlotte Emily Lesley Dawson, so I am.
“Because my dad hosted his own shows, like ‘Blankety Blank’, I feel so much closer to him because I’m actually hosting my own show.”
Charlotte is also following in the footsteps of the late ‘Blind Date’ host Cilla Black – who died in 2015 aged 72 – by presenting a dating show, and she believes the singer-turned-TV presenter would be “very proud” of her.
She said: “I think Cilla would be very proud, I’m obviously following in Cilla’s footsteps, and I’m so proud to be able to say that.
“I spoke to Cilla before she died because she was filming for my dad’s show, the hologram show that never was, and she said my dad would be so proud of me and she was as well.
“That was so nice to hear.”
Charlotte often thinks about her dad, admitting when she is feeling particularly low she likes to chow down on chips next to his bronze statue in St Anne’s-on-Sea, Lancashire.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, she added: “Whenever I’m having a down day I go to his statue, I have a chippy outside the statue and I just watch all his old clips on YouTube and on TV.
“I’ve got loads of home videos as well that my dad did before he died.”

Martin Roberts loses appeal

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Roberts has lost his bid to have a driving ban overturned.
The ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ star was forbidden from getting behind the wheel for almost two years in April after magistrates heard he refused to submit to a breath test when he was pulled over by police last November but he launched an appeal in which he argued having asthma meant he had tried but failed to complete two blows into a breathalyzer machine.
And Martin argued the one successful reading police obtained – which showed him almost twice over the drink drive limit – could have been contaminated for his medication.
However, the appeal against both conviction and sentence was rejected at Bristol Crown Court on Friday (16.08.19).
Recorder Noel Casey – who heard the appeal with two magistrates – said: “We accept the appellant suffers from asthma but not to an extent much greater than many other sufferers.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant described the ruling as a “terrible day for asthma sufferers”.
He told Bristol Live: “This is a bad day for me. But it is also a terrible day for asthma sufferers.
“How can it be fair that someone that has a lifelong history of asthma, that declares that asthma to police, is only offered a breathylser test that involves exhaling effectively – and is not offered any alternative way of providing a sample – such as giving blood or urine?”
And Martin has called for a change in the law.
He added: “My failure to provide a sample was for genuine medical reasons. I would have happily provided a blood or urine sample but was never offered the opportunity to do so.
“I believe the law needs to be changed to protect other asthma sufferers like myself from being prejudiced against in this grossly unfair way, by making it mandatory that they are offered an alternative way of providing a sample.
“This matter has caused me and my family unbelievable stress and worry and I am now being faced with a 23 month driving ban and a big fine – equivalent to being ten times over the limit and crashing into a street full of parked vehicles.
“Yet I wasn’t even in my car, or anywhere near it, when I was stopped by police.”
Martin has previously spoken of how he has battled asthma – a long-term inflammatory disease, which affects the airways of the lungs – since he was a child.
However, after a brief stint in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2016, he credited life in a camp with helping curb the condition.
He previously said: “I’ve been asthmatic since I was a child, and exercise reduces asthma, so at the start (of the show) I was walking down the stairs, getting the wood and water and stuff like that but gradually, and I haven’t put my finger on why, could it be the simple foods? Or the fact that there was no process foods, it was all rice and beans, could it be the fact we was outside, could it be exercise?”

Katya Jones will get Strictly Come Dancing partner

OHMYGOSSIP — Katya Jones will have a celebrity partner on the new series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 29-year-old dancer – who announced her split from husband Neil Jones over the weekend – had been rumoured to be facing demotion to a place in the professional ensemble following the controversy sparked when she was pictured kissing her dance partner Seann Walsh last year but it seems she’s got a reprieve after show bosses signed up more male contestants than originally planned.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Katya has got lucky.
“She was lined up for a back-up role following the controversy of the last series and accepted she would just have to ride this year out.
“But the way the bookings panned out, a space has come open and she’ll be part of the main series.”
It was claimed in April that the dancer had been offered a reduced role on ‘Strictly’ as “punishment” for the scandal.
A source said at the time: “Katya’s gutted. She knows she’s being punished. [Show bosses have told her] accept a reduced role as a back-up or walk away.
“Katya knows she is being punished for her actions and the scandal she caused.
“She feels BBC bosses are saying she can’t be trusted to act professionally with a celebrity.
“It is frustrating as she has put so much time and effort into the new series.
“But producers were adamant. While they let her stay in the cast they can’t condone her behaviour or all the drama she caused. No one is bigger than the show.”
Katya and Neil announced their six-year marriage had ended in a statement shared to Instagram.
They said: “Hi everyone. As our fans and loyal supporters you are really important to us and so we wanted to let you know some news. After 11 years we have made the mutual decision to separate.
“We will always love each other, just in a different way as friends. This will never change what a great team we make and we are really proud of everything we have achieved together.
“Our shared love of dance means we will keep working and dancing together as well as exploring individual projects. No matter what we do we will always support and respect each other.
“We wish one another every happiness and we will remain the best of friends. We are really looking forward to getting back to the ballroom and can’t wait to keep on dancing. Lots of love from us both xx (sic)”

Lorna Laidlaw would ‘love’ Coronation Street live episode

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorna Laidlaw would “absolutely love” to star in a live episode to mark Coronation Street’s 60th anniversary.
The former ‘Doctors’ actress has joined the ITV soap as Aggie Bailey, and she is hoping to be able to show off her acting talents in a live ep next year when the legendary show celebrates a huge milestone.
She said: “I would absolutely love to do that.
“That’s theatre isn’t it? I would absolutely be buzzing to do something like that.”
Lorna has “no idea” what’s to come for her alter-ego after the next couple of weeks, when Aggie has to deal with the revelation that her husband Ed’s (Trevor Michael Georges) gambling addiction has spiralled out of control.
She is quoted by Digital Spy as saying: “I’m going to be really honest, I have no idea what I’m doing.
“I literally have what I’m doing this week and what I’m doing next week and finding my way through the revelation of Ed’s gambling and trying to get things back together.”
Kym Marsh – who is departing the soap later this year – would love to see her co-stars take part in a live episode next year, too.
She said: “Jack P. Shepherd has hinted that ‘Corrie’ will do a live episode for the 60th anniversary next year. Nothing has been confirmed yet but I think that would be great.
“I was involved in the last live episode and it was an adrenaline rush. Going live can be daunting but it was such a brilliant thing to be a part of.
“Sadly I won’t be around for the 60th anniversary but I’ll certainly be tuning in.”
‘Corrie’ aired its first-ever live episode in 2000, with specials following in 2010 and 2015.
Jack – who plays David Platt – recently suggested the show should do it again to mark next year’s huge milestone.
He previously said: “A live, we’re doing a live! No, I just made that up! I assume it will be that!
“I love ’em… A lot of the cast get petrified which is understandable. I like the buzz of it. It’s really nice being on one of them, because everybody really gets an input, and feels part of it, much more than the day to day stuff.
“The night is amazing, with hundreds of people involved, and the after party. So yeah I like doing them. I’ve done three now. I was the first person on screen in the 40th one. I was kicking a ball.”
