Deadpool and Wolverine explains why the movie is not called Deadpool 3

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ will be a “two-hander character adventure”.
Director Shawn Levy has explained the highly-anticipated sequel – which will see Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their respective characters – is not called ‘Deadpool 3’ because it’s being framed as team-up outing rather than another entry into the ‘Merc-With-A-Mouth’s solo series.
During an interview with ScreenRant, he explained: “As far as crafting the ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ story, I just felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two massive movie stars in their most iconic roles.
“It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not ‘Deadpool 3’. It’s a different thing that’s very much Deadpool and Wolverine.
“And it’s not trying to copycat anything from the first two movies. They were awesome, but this is a two-hander character adventure.”
The filmmaker has had “audience joy” in mind throughout making the movie – which is due for release in July – and he hopes everyone will have a “great time” watching it.
He said: “I’ll tell you that the guiding thought in crafting the movie was audience joy. That was always the North Star. Yeah, it’s going to be gnarly.
“Yeah, it’s gonna be funny. That’s a given. But we wanted to build a great time at the theatre for audiences, and that’s our goal.”
Shawn added early screenings of the flick proved to be “extremely, extremely promising”, though he felt the pace needed to be “tightened” up a bit.
He explained: “We have had some early screenings that were extremely, extremely promising.
“I wouldn’t say that there were any big surprises, but you feel where the pace wants to tighten, you feel where you can afford to slow down and have a deeper, more durable character moment.”

Sharon Gaffka urges young people to register to vote

OHMYGOSSIP — Sharon Gaffka has urged young people to register to vote.
The former ‘Love Island’ contestant wants fans to use their voices and make sure they can be heard in the upcoming elections after new research showed young Brits are more likely to vote for reality TV stars than politicians, with 7 in 10 Brits aged 18-34 having participated in a television vote over the last 12 months, but 41% of those aged 18-24 have never voted in an election in the past.
The survey also found less than half of citizens aged 25-34 believing voting for an election has more of an impact than voting for a reality TV show, and Sharon wanted to reassure young people that they can make a difference.
She said in a statement: “You voted for me to go on a date with Chuggs Wallis so now it’s time to vote for something off the screens, your democracy. I know it may feel like your vote doesn’t make a difference, but – just like in the Villa – it really can. It’s as simple as voting for Love Island, simply head online to register and it can be done in a matter of minutes.”
The 27-year-old former civil servant can understand why voter apathy is high among young people but she wants things to change.
She wrote on Instagram: “Growing up, the message was clear: politics wasn’t for “people like me.” But who were they referring to? Was it my race, my gender, my age, or perhaps a combination of all three?
“You don’t need a political degree to recognise why young people often feel excluded from the political process. The absence of youth voices results in policies being imposed on us, regardless of whether they serve our interests.
“I’ve been in countless conversations and voter apathy among young people is a recurring theme. But as we approach the impending general election, it’s crucial to challenge this perception. We do care about politics, and our voices do count.
“That’s why I’m thrilled to announce my partnership with @mylifemysay on the #YouAlreadyVoteSoVote campaign! Together, we’re empowering the staggering one-third of young voters missing from the electoral roll, to register, vote, and effect change in the upcoming election.”
Other stars backing the My Life My Say campaign include ‘Big Brother’ presenter Will Best, ‘Love Island’ stars Molly Marsh and Kai Fagan, and Twist and Pulse dancer Ashley Glazebrook.
Dan Lawes, Head of Partnerships at My Life My Say said: “Voting numbers are drastically down – especially in the 18–34-year-old age group. And the real irony is this group already vote. They love to vote. Their voting has changed hundreds of lives, whether it’s for someone to have a ‘voice’ on talent shows, for contestants’ ‘safety’ from evictions or for stars to eat weird things in the jungle – so we need them to vote when it really counts, in elections.”
A display featuring disruptive recreations of well-known Reality TV icons is currentlylive at the Outernet in London to encourage young passers-by to vote before Tuesday’s (!6.04.24) deadline.

Clay Milner Russell quits EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘EastEnders’ star Clay Milner Russell has quit the soap.
The 24-year-old actor – who plays Bobby Beale on ‘EastEnders’ – has decided to walk away from the long-running BBC show in order to pursue other career opportunities.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Clay’s a talented actor and he’s ambitious.
“He was never going to stay in ‘EastEnders’ forever. He’s loved playing Bobby but he became an actor to play all kinds of roles and he wants to do that.”
Despite this, it’s been suggested that Clay – who joined ‘EastEnders’ in 2019 – could still return to Walford one day.
The insider explained: “The door is being left open but for now it’s a definite goodbye.”
Clay – who was nominated for an Inside Soap award back in 2020 – is determined to try his hand a variety of roles over the coming years.
The source shared: “Clay is a young actor so he wants to use these years to try his hand at other roles.
“He absolutely loves working on ‘EastEnders’ and has made such great friends on the show so it was really difficult for him to make that decision, but having been a part of the show since 2019, he now feels like the time is right to explore other options.”
The London-born actor succeeded Eliot Carrington as Booby back in 2019. But an ‘EastEnders’ spokesperson has confirmed that he will exit the soap later this year.
The spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Clay will be leaving ‘EastEnders’ later on this year, and we wish him the best for the future.”

Netflix to spend ‘£1m’ on security for Bear Hunt

OHMYGOSSIP — Netflix bosses are reportedly planning to spend around £1 million on security while filming ‘Bear Hunt’ in Costa Rica.
The new reality show – hosted by Holly Willoughby – will feature 10 celebrities being trained by survival expert Bear Grylls and embarking on a series of challenges and TV bosses are said to be recruiting a top team of ex-special forces security guards to protect the cast and crew.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Netflix are investing huge sums in creating a show which can rival ITV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity’, by bagging big names and choosing a tropical location.
“But keeping Holly and everyone fully protected in Costa Rica is the priority. That means hiring specialist teams of guards, many of whom will be ex-military and special forces experts.
“They’ll also need specialist vehicles, safe accommodation and a secure location in which to film.”
The famous faces taking part in the show are expected to fly out to Costa Rica later this month ahead of filming which will take place throughout May.
Among the names rumoured to have signed up is former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson, who’s said to be hoping the show will help relaunch her solo career.
Netflix bosses are rumoured to have splashed out around £10 million to secure big names for the show.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “On similar celebrity-led challenge shows like ‘Strictly’ and ‘I’m a Celeb’, the line-ups often vary from little-known people to established stars.
“Netflix are determined their collection will be largely killer, with very little filler. They’re not scrimping on paying six-figure fees and aren’t afraid to cough up more for the biggest names.
“They’ll be shelling out an eight-figure sum in all, so the cast will be one of the most expensive in reality TV history.”

Melissa Barrera satisfied with how Scream arc ended

OHMYGOSSIP — Melissa Barrera feels like her ‘Scream’ character arc gave her “closure”.
The 33-year-old actress played Sam Carpenter – the daughter of 1996 ‘Scream’ movie killer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) – in 2022’s ‘Scream’ and its sequel ‘Scream VI, but she was fired from upcoming flick ‘Scream 7’ due to her publicly pro-Palestinian stance.
Her character’s story dealt with the idea of whether the connection to her father meant Sam was always meant to be a murderer, but she was seen throwing her father’s mask onto the concrete below.
Speaking to Collider’s Perri Nemiroff for ‘Ladies Night’, she said: “I feel like I’ve gotten closure. My head is clear.”
She added: “I feel like the ending of [Scream VI ] was a very good ending, and so I don’t feel like ‘Ugh, I got left in the middle.’
“No, I think people, the fans, were wanting a third movie to continue that arc, and apparently, the plan was a trilogy, even though I was only contracted for two movies.
“So, I did my two movies, and I’m fine. I’m good with that. I got two – that’s more than most people get.”
She noted that in the world of television, actors have to “move on” when shows get cancelled, and insisted it’s the same for Hollywood.
She explained: “When you’re on a TV show, and it gets canceled, you can’t harp on things, you gotta move on.
“That’s the nature of this industry too, I get excited for the next job, I get excited for the next skin I get to put on. It’s exciting to create a different character.
“So yeah, I feel good. I did what I set out to do. It was always meant to be two movies for me, ’cause that was my contract, and so everything is perfect.”
Barrera will next be seen in Universal movie ‘Abigail’, which sees her reunite with ‘Scream’ directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli.
‘Scream 7’ won’t feature her or Jenna Ortega, who played her on-screen sister Tara Carpenter and has left the franchise due to scheduling conflicts with ‘Wednesday’ filming.
However, ‘Scream’ legend Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott despite previously quitting the film series in a row over her pay.

Simon Cowell ignores Britain’s Got Talent producers

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Cowell has started ignoring ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ producers and loves breaking the rules.
The 64-year-old music mogul and his fellow judges – including Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli – enjoyed a newfound sense of freedom for this year’s auditions, and have been gleefully pressing the golden buzzer multiple times despite the fact they’re each only meant to do so once per series on the ITV talent show.
As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper, Simon said: “I love that there aren’t any rules on the show any more.
“It is kind of like being back at school, because the teachers keep coming in saying, ‘You know, can we try and keep the golden buzzers down?’
“And they know we’ve got absolutely no intention whatsoever of doing that.”
And while the producers have to at least attempt to keep the judge’s in line, Simon thinks they are “secretly” enjoying the chaos.
He added: “I think they secretly love when it happens. But they have to try and keep us in check. But I don’t think it matters.”
Amanda, 53, admitted this year’s auditions were “slightly chaotic” and laid the blame on Simon himself.
And Alesha said: “You have to embrace spontaneity and embrace what people are feeling.”
Earlier this year, Simon’s 10-year-old son Eric and Amanda’s 12-year-old daughter Hollie hit the buzzer for Japanese act Haribo during auditions in Salford.
Simon said at the time: “That was my son and Amanda’s daughter, egged on by the audience.
“It’s like father, like son and like mother, like daughter. More rules have been broken this year than any other year.
“This has never happened before – I might get fired.”
Simon previously suggested the one-buzzer rule may have to be scrapped.
He told the crowd at auditions: “I’m very excited, we don’t know who is going to come on and we’ll meet people together.
“This year there’s just one rule: be as naughty as you want.”

Alison Hammond had to get her hands dirty on For The Love of Dogs

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond was happy to clean up pee and poo on ‘For The Love of Dogs’.
The ‘This Morning’ star is the new host of the hit ITV series after the death of longtime host Paul O’Grady – who fronted 11 series until his death last year – and she has been getting her hands dirty during filming at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column, she said: “They’ve been a couple of wees to clean up… and some poos.
“But I don’t mind. I’m in there, sorting it out.”
And despite the occasional mess, she has loved throwing herself into the work.
She added: “Every time I know I’m going to Battersea it’s like I’m having a therapy day because it’s one of the most beautiful days that you could ever imagine to have.
“It’s just a lovely place to be. I didn’t realise how wonderful that place is.”
Although getting to know the abandoned dogs can be heartwarming, there are still some challenges.
She explained: “Sometimes it’s sad news and they lose limbs or face other life changing surgeries, but seeing how they thrive afterwards and that they’re okay and how much love and attention that the Battersea staff put into these dogs is just incredible.”
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ host previously insisted she “can never replace” Paul on the show, but she will do her best to live up to his legacy.
She said in a statement: “I am very aware that I can never replace the iconic Paul in this wonderful series.
“But if I can continue to shine a light on the brilliant work done at Battersea and help to tell the stories of these beautiful dogs, then it will be an absolute privilege to give it my all.
“I can’t wait to share the joy of their searches for new loving forever homes and hopefully make lots of furry friends of my own along the way!”

Jeremy Clarkson vows ‘revenge’ on cricket with unusual new business plan

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson wants to get revenge on cricketers by selling his wood to make cricket bats.
The ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ star has revealed the land on his 1,000 acre Diddly Squat farm is ideal for growing the kind of willow trees used to make bats, and he has claimed it’s the perfect venture after being forced to play cricket at school.
Writing for the Sunday Times newspaper, he said: “I see people playing it sometimes when I’m in Surrey and my lip curls in an involuntary, animalistic display of rage.
“You know how your dog behaves when it sees a stranger walking past your host? Well, that’s me driving through Chiddingfold.
“But now I’ve worked out how I can get my own back. I’m going to take all of their money.”
The former ‘Top Gear’ host joked he would “hurt” cricket lovers in their “wallets” as an act of revenge against the sport as a whole.
He added: “So stand by, cricketists. I’m going to hurt you, but not like you hurt me [at school].
“I’m going to hurt you in your wallets. I’m going to become the cricket bat king of Chippings Norton and I’m going to bash your credit cards until they look like Steve Martin’s in ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles.’ ”
He insisted “demand is huge in India and Pakistan”, explaining that while some players “use bats made from Kashmir willow”, most people “prefer the English variety because it’s lighter”.
While Jeremy hated playing cricket in his schooldays, he recently complained about being “forced” to work out at a gym by his personal trainer.
He wrote in the Sunday Times last month: “I was in a gym, being forced by a man in skin-tight shorts to pick things up so I could put them down again. So my life satisfaction score was about minus a million.”

Mark Gatiss still keen on Sherlock film

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Gatiss is still holding out hope for a ‘Sherlock’ movie.
The 57-year-old star co-created the hit BBC mystery drama – in which he also played Mycroft Holmes – alongside former ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Steven Mofatt, and after four three part series and a special, he is keen to bring the show to the big screen.
He told Deadline: “We’d like to make a film, but trying to get everyone together is very difficult… You’ll have to ask Benedict [Cumberbatch] and Martin [Freeman].”
The series – which was set in the present day when it aired – was based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic literary detective stories.
Benedict played Sherlock Holmes, with Martin starring alongside him as Doctor John Watson.
Gatiss previously admitted the idea of turning the show into a film was “the natural thing to do”, but he insisted it’s not so simple.
Last year, he told The Guardian newspaper: “People think you can just wave a wand. It’s incredibly difficult to get people interested and get films made.”
He recalled a conversation with Edgar Wright about ‘Ant-Man’, which he wrote the script before leaving over creative differences despite putting “eight years of his life” into the project.
Gatiss pondered: “Eight years is not short of a decade. Add a few of those up, you’re dead and you’ve made four films.
“But, also, we were genuinely interested in making them for TV because we love TV.”
He added: “We would love to make a Sherlock movie. It’s the natural thing to do.”
In the meantime, ‘The League of Gentleman’ star Gatiss is set to write and star in new Alibi drama ‘Bookish’, which will tell the story of a bookshop owner who helps the police solve crimes.
He will star as Gabriel Book, who is described as an “erudite and unconventional” sleuth using his thousands of books to give him the knowhow required to solve crimes.

Joe Cole starring in action-thriller He Bled Neon

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Cole is leading the cast of ‘He Bled Neon’.
The ‘Peaky Blinders’ actor will take on the central role in the feature film debut from music video director Drew Kirsch – who has co-helmed the videos for the Taylor Swift songs ‘You Need to Calm Down’ and ‘Lover’ and has also worked with artists including Shakira and John Legend.
A synopsis for the action-thriller picture reads: “After his estranged brother’s mysterious death, Ethan’s (Cole) journey to Las Vegas for the funeral unravels a dark web of crime, forcing him to confront his past as he delves into the city’s gritty underworld to uncover the truth, risking everything he holds dear in the process.”
Tim Cairo and Jake Gibson are writing the script from an original story by Nate Bolotin, the co-founder of producers XYZ Films, which is inspired by his experiences growing up in Sin City.
The movie’s score will be composed by Grammy-nominee Zhu along with Joseph Trapanese while XYZ will be handling global sales on the project ahead of the forthcoming Cannes market.
He said: “We are thrilled to have assembled such an amazing team that believes in the potential of this project, with a singular vision from Drew Kirsch and with a spotlight on the wildly talented Joe Cole leading the cast.
“We are also fortunate to have such brilliant music and soundscapes of Zhu and Joe Trapanese, which will truly bring this film to life.”

Keanu Reeves lends voice to Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Keanu Reeves is to voice Shadow in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’.
The 59-year-old star has joined the cast of the film series based on Sega’s successful video game franchise and is to feature alongside Ben Schwartz, James Marsden and Jim Carrey.
The first footage from ‘Sonic 3’, slated for release in December, was revealed at CinemaCon last week and disclosed that the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Carrey) was depressed after the events of the second film but recaptures his mojo with the creation of Shadow the Hedgehog.
The character was first introduced in the 2001 video game ‘Sonic Adventure 2’ and has extraordinary speed and Chaos Control powers that allow him to manipulate both space and time.
He is initially seen as the anti-Sonic but later becomes an ally to the blue protagonist in the games.
The ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ franchise launched with a successful flick in 2020 – which was then surpassed by the 2022 sequel – and producer Toby Ascher recently revealed that he wants new releases of the movies to become “Avengers-level events”.
Ascher, who has co-created the new Paramount+ TV spin-off series ‘Knuckles’, told Paste: “We got really excited about the idea of expanding our characters in our world into television, specifically, because it gives us a platform to really do character studies.
“We knew that, with Shadow coming into ‘Sonic 3’ and some of the bigger things that we want to do, the ‘Sonic’ franchise on the movie side is going to be these Avengers-level events.
“They’re going to be these big, exciting stories that have a lot of different characters.
“And so what television did for us is it gave us time to go into some of the more supporting characters in depth and really build them out in cool ways.”

Zara McDermott spotted Leonardo DiCaprio while filming new Ibiza documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara McDermott spotted Leonardo DiCaprio while filming new documentary ‘Ibiza: Secrets of the Party Island’.
The 27-year-old TV star explored the area for the BBC programme where she has looked at the wealth and celebrity guests the destination attracts, and she saw the Hollywood legend arrive on the island.
She said: “I think there is an image that a lot of people want to try and achieve. The island used to be seen as quite a ‘hippie island’ with a lot of natural beauty and over time it’s been seen as a place where you can go and be free, leaving your inhibitions behind.
“I think it’s quite a unique experience that you don’t really get anywhere else. You can really feel that when you’re there.
“I also believe that social media has influenced the image of the island and money also plays a big part. Global celebrities are coming to the island now like Leonardo DiCaprio who was two yachts down from us when we were filming. With that, I think it drives a different type of clientele.”
Zara emphasised that there is a “huge V.I.P. culture” in Ibiza that is drawing more and more A-listers to the island.
She explained: “Many people say the beauty of Ibiza is that you can be in the same nightclub as an A-lister and just be an ordinary tourist rubbing shoulders with some of the most rich and famous people in the world.
“I think there’s a huge V.I.P. culture that is driving more celebrities to the island because it has wealth and offers a V.I.P. lifestyle.
“That can then create a cycle which attracts the super-rich which then creates a bigger demand for people to come to Ibiza to experience that V.I.P. culture for themselves even if they can’t afford it.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star admitted that the obscene amount of wealth on display “really shocked” her.
She said: “The level of wealth really shocked me. I was told about people willing to pay an extraordinary 30,000 Euros for a table at their favourite club.
“When you see large amounts of money being handed over in person and start counting how many people are on the beach or in a club, you start to think how much money can be made there.”

Dawn French insists cancel culture has made her a coward

OHMYGOSSIP — Dawn French feels like cancel culture has turned her into a coward.
The 66-year-old ‘Harry Potter’ star defended J. K. Rowling – who had sparked controversy and fierce backlash with her opinions on transgender rights – and argued cancel culture has “wiped out any margin for error” by forcing people “into corners”.
During an appearance on the ‘Happy Place’ podcast, she said: “We’re all talking about inclusivity and favouring difference and all the rest of it.
“And that’s all great, I love the idea of that, but that’s not how we’re living.
“We’re living the opposite of that – we’re massively intolerant, quick to blame, litigation, trolling and all of this dreadful stuff which has got nothing to do with understanding how other human beings operate.
“We are people who know we make mistakes, we know we have shortcomings, we know we have all this stuff but because we are expected to present ourselves as perfect and only celebrate all the perfect things it just wiped out any margin for error.
“But it’s impossible if what we’ve got to do is hunker back into our positions, defend them by spitting and being furious and then blaming and cancelling.
“I genuinely think we’re being forced into corners where I can smell my own cowardice. I don’t like that – I’ve never been cowardly, I hope, but I’m starting to be that because I’m being circumspect about what I will support or not in case it causes trouble.”
‘The Vicar of Dibley’ actress added she felt she needed to “learn” about the transgender rights issue after speaking with the ‘Harry Potter’ author, though insisted “it’s very powerful” for young people to say “I don’t know”.
She explained: “I went, ‘oh, okay’, because I know J.K. a bit.
“And she said, ‘yeah, because she used this terminology and we’re not doing that, it’s unacceptable’.
“I said, ‘oh, oh, I don’t even know that term. What is that?’ And she went, ‘you need to catch up, Dawn.’
“‘You need to catch up’ – people can’t be constantly teaching you how to be because this is not okay, and you need to catch up. And I left it thinking, okay, do I need to catch up? Is that right? I do need to catch up. And that is true, but I also need to be taught – I need to learn.
“It’s very powerful to say [‘I don’t know’], especially when you don’t know. That’s better than pretending you do know. It’s certainly better than forming an opinion about something you don’t know.”

EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick suffers with ‘terrible health anxiety’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Borthwick has revealed he suffers with “terrible health anxiety”.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor has opened up about an often overwhelming fear of being unwell – which started with his teenage emetophobia, a fear of vomiting – and revealed he has undergone therapy to help him cope with the anxieties.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I have terrible health anxiety. I’m a massive hypochondriac.
“Every day, I wake up and go, ‘What’s wrong with me today?’ ”
Thankfully, seeing a professional has helped him “become equipped” to deal with his struggles, although they don’t “fully leave you”.
He explained: “The therapy sessions have really helped me. But I don’t think these things fully leave you.
“You just become equipped to be able to deal with it. I’m far from perfect, but I’m certainly in a much better place than I was 10 years ago.”
His fears came to the fronfront after his dad Simon, 57, and uncle Charlie were both diagnosed with prostate cancer, while one of his cousin’s is currently undergoing treatment.
According to Prostate Cancer UK, the illness is more common in those with a family history of the disease, with symptoms generally involving changes to urination habits, including a difficulty starting to wee, a weak flow, or needing to go to the bathroom more frequently.
Although these symptoms don’t necessarily mean you have cancer, it’s important to get checked.
Jamie’s father and uncle both got the “all clear”, but the actor was worried when he suffered with prostatitis, which is an inflamed prostate caused by an infection.
He recalled: “I was really worried and health anxiety kicked in because I thought I had prostate cancer. Thankfully, I just had an infection.”
The soap star will be in character as Jay Brown – who he has played since 2006 – when he runs the London Marathon this weekend for Prostate Cancer UK, and he won’t let his father’s diagnosis hamper his love for life.
He added: “I have a responsibility to myself to live my life to the fullest because everything can change.”

Jimmy Carr ‘nearly didn’t make it’ after terrifying health battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Carr has revealed he “nearly didn’t make it” after being diagnosed with meningitis.
The 51-year-old comedian was still a toddler when he found himself “close to death” while being treated for the disease at a hospital in Ireland, and surviving the illness gave him an appreciation for life.
Appearing on the ‘Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake’ podcast with Kathy Burke, he said: “You’ve got to be cruel to be kind … I think that is the first thing I ever said that my mother thought was funny.
“I had meningitis when I was a child. So my first memory is a lumbar puncture in Limerick in the General [hospital].
“I was three, I think, and… I was always told it was very close to death.
“The doctor sort of went, ‘It’s going to be very painful.’ And somehow I’d heard the phrase, and I went, ‘You’ve got to be cruel to be kind,’ in a little child’s voice.”
The ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ host’s love for being alive came from that experience, as his family told him how he almost died.
He added: “And I kind of appreciated that thing of life, because I was always told, ‘Oh, you nearly didn’t make it.’ ”
According to the NHS, meningitis is an “infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord (meninges)”.
They health organisation adds: “It can affect anyone, but is most common in babies, young children, teenagers and young adults.
“Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.”
As part of his appearance on ‘Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake’, Jimmy also reflected on how he’d like to die.
He quipped: “I want my kids and the people that love me to [be able to tell a story like], ‘Oh, Jimmy died… funny story. He flew to South Africa and he went on one of those great shark cage experiences and he forgoed the cage. He said, no cage for me, thanks. I’ll just jump in there with a fish.’
“And I was ravaged by sharks. That would be a way to go.”
He has actually been up close with a reef shark in the past, after one “flipped around” to face him while he was with a friend in Key West.
He said: “We’d been swimming with these small sharks all day and we slightly misjudged the size of this thing. It was enormous and it flipped around and came at us.”
