Laura Whitmore’s dating show dropped after one series

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore’s dating show has been axed.
The 38-year-old presenter had provided the voiceover for a series of ‘Date My Mate’ – which saw singletons’ friends use an app to help them find their perfect match – for Prime Video, but the programme won’t be returning.
The news is the latest in a “disappointing hat-trick” for the presenter, after she left ‘Love Island’ due to “conflicting projects” and ITV axed her Sunday series ‘Laura Whitmore’s Breakfast Show’.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “’Love Island’ is a distant memory and she has ceased hosting her weekend show on ITV1, so this is a rather disappointing hat-trick of farewells.
“Laura seems to have tried a variety of projects after leaving the villa, including chat shows and documentaries, but it seems even the familiar territory of a dating show isn’t a safe bet.”
Laura previously admitted she still finds TV a “hard environment” to work in.
Speaking on the ‘Spinning Plates’ podcast, she told host Sophie Ellis-Bextor: “Television is a great environment to work in but it’s a really hard environment to work in and there is definitely ups and downs. It’s about kind of finding your own voice within that space.
“I’ve definitely worked on live television shows where sometimes personal stuff can be really hard behind the scenes but you still have to go in and do your smile and do your job. That can be really conflicting because you feel ‘This isn’t how I feel right now’, it’s the same probably for musicians who have had something really horrible happen and they still have to go up on stage and entertain because it’s not for them, it’s for the audience.
“It’s hard. I’ve constantly got these internal conversations with myself because I’ll go in to do something I really don’t want to do that day, but you know you have to do it. And then it makes you feel guilty because you know how lucky you are to do a job you love. It’s hard. I’m still navigating this industry and finding what makes me happy, and also pushing myself.”

Idris Elba wants Black Panther role

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba wants to be part of a new ‘Black Panther’ movie.
The 51-year-old actor has previously played the Asgardian named Heimdall in all of the ‘Thor’ movies, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, but after his character was killed off in the latter film, he’s open to a new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and called to be part of Ryan Coogler’s potential next project for the organisation.
After Lupita Nyong’o recently expressed her wish to have Idris join the ‘Black Panther’ cast, he told E! News: “I would love to be in ‘Black Panther’, yeah.
“It’s an amazing cast, amazing storyline, Ryan Coogler‘s amazing. The whole cast is incredible.
“Let’s make it happen.”
The ‘Luther’ star despaired at the idea of playing another villain, but admitted being the bad guy is always “fun”.
Asked if he’d play the villain, he replied: “Why I always got to be the villain? I mean, come on, why? But the villain would be a lot more fun.”
Despite Idris’ plea for a role, there are currently no plans in the works for a third ‘Black Panther’ film.
Idris recently joked he’s “more famous for not playing James Bond” than past actors who have had the role after being speculated as Daniel Craig’s successor for so long.
Asked about the frequent rumours on ‘The Chris Moyles Show’ on Radio X on Thursday (18.04.24), he said: “I have several times, several sort of half-a-million times.
“No, it was definitely one of the biggest rumours. I’m arguably more famous for not playing Bond than some of the actors who did!
“And you know, it’s been one that I’ve taken lightly at times. You know, everyone loves Bond. Such a fantastic character, and just to me, I found it as a compliment to be considered all those years ago.”
The ‘Molly’s Game’ actor insisted he’s too “ancient” to take on the role now, in the unlikely event it was offered to him.
When Chris said the idea of Idris as Bond was “not dead”, his guest replied: “Well, I mean yeah it is. The rumour has definitely done. And I mean, I’m ancient now. I don’t know what kind of Bond I’d be.”

Jenna Fischer filmed Mean Girls with a broken shoulder

OHMYGOSSIP — Jenna Fischer filmed ‘Mean Girls’ with a broken shoulder after taking a tumble during a skiing trip.
The 50-year-old actress – who plays Cady Heron’s mum in the new musical version of the film – has revealed she headed off on holiday during a break in filming and came back with a nasty injury but she had to continue making the movie.
She told PEOPLE: “I shot for one day on ‘Mean Girls’, and then I didn’t have to shoot for a month. And in that month I went on a ski trip and I fell on a sidewalk and I broke my shoulder.
“So I had to shoot the rest of the movie with a very newly broken shoulder.”
Jenna had to remove her sling to film her scenes and reveals there are some very obvious moment in the movie that show she’s unable to move her right arm.
She added: “If you notice in the opening shot of the movie, I’m out in the middle of a field and Cady is singing, and I have a crossbody bag on.
“And I’m holding my crossbody bag. The reason I’m doing that is because I had to take my sling off. That was serving as a sling for me.
“So if you notice in the movie I am exclusively gesturing with my left arm. It was the wildest experience. So a big part of my role in ‘Mean Girls’ was pretending I didn’t have a broken shoulder.”
She went on to reveal she’s still receiving physical therapy for the “complicated” injury which is taking a long time to fully heal.
Jenna previously updated fans in a post on Instagram last year, revealing she is having to continue rehab therapy for some time. She wrote: “Let’s start with the good news! I graduated to bands today in therapy, my fracture is healed, I can hold a full cup of coffee in my right hand again.
“The ‘still working on it’ news: can’t lift my arm high enough to shave my underarm, still sleeping in the rented recliner, still battling pain cycles.
“The ‘reality setting in’ news: Looks like about 6 more months of rehab before I can put my hair in a proper ponytail. Gains are small and slow going. No skiing this winter.”

Kirsten Dunst thinks assassinated president in ‘Civil War’ is any ‘fascist’ leader

OHMYGOSSIP — Kirsten Dunst thinks the president gunned down at the end of ‘Civil War’ is any “fascist” leader.
The actress, 41, stars as photojournalist Lee in ‘Ex Machina’ creator Alex Garland’s dystopian film that takes place in a war-torn US, and she has now clarified whether the president assassinated in its finale – played by Nick Offerman – is a representation of a Donald Trump-style president.
She told Variety: “It’s just a fascist president. But I didn’t think about Nick’s character being any certain political figure.
“I just thought this is this president, in this world, who will not abide by the Constitution and democracy.”
Writer and director Alex, 53, has said about his creation: “I had a very clear goal in my head, which is to not instruct the audience what to think but actually to prompt an exchange (of dialogue.)”
The movie traces Lee and a team of photojournalists as they travel across a conflict-ravaged US to try and get an iconic shot of the White House being stormed by resistance fighters.
Its violent finale was shot at the replica White House at 54-year-old filmmaker Tyler Perry’s Atlanta studio – the same place his character Madea once used to announce she was Trump’s fictitious communications director.
In ‘Civil War’, the president’s press secretary is shot and killed as she tries to negotiate his surrender.
After the president’s death, the film ends on a shot of a black-and-white photo of a group of Western Forces soldiers smiling as they stand next to the dead president.
Kirsten added to Variety: “This movie, after you see it, you want to talk about it for a while with people. And I think any movie that does that is incredible.
“The whole movie is open to interpretation. For me, there were things I just accepted that were unexplained.
“It allows the audience to fill in their own feelings about what they’re watching.”

Ellie Bamber joins Animal Friends cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Bamber has been cast in ‘Animal Friends’.
The ‘Willow’ actress will feature alongside Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Addison Rae and Lil Rel Howery in the film that will combine both live-action and animated characters.
The plot is being kept under wraps – although insiders are billing the film as an R-rated road trip adventure – and Peter Atencio is set to direct from a script by writing duo Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider.
The film is being produced by entertainment company Legendary, Reynolds’ Maximum Effort banner and producer Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios.
Meanwhile, Ellie is set to play Kate Moss in the biopic ‘Moss and Freud’ which tells the story of the supermodel’s decision to pose naked for the artist Lucian Freud – who will be portrayed in the picture by screen and stage veteran Sir Derek Jacobi.
Kate has been involved in bringing the picture to life with writer/director James Lucas and expressed her delight at the casting decisions.
She said: “As this is such a personal story of mine it has been essential that I be involved with James in all aspects as the project has developed.
“I am thrilled by the recent casting and excited that the film will begin shooting soon, I cannot wait to see it.”
The film is set around Freud’s London studio and will tell the story of the artist’s past as well as focusing on Kate’s position as a world-famous model.
The picture of Kate took nine months of sittings and it later sold in 2005 for almost $5 million. The pair remained close friends until Freud’s death aged 88 in 2011.

Dame Helen Mirren set to lead cast of The Thursday Murder Club

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley could be set to star in ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ movie.
The trio are wanted to fill three of the four lead roles in the movie adaptation of Richard Osman’s 2020 book, which is beginning to take shape with Chris Columbus set to direct the flick.
The ‘Pointless’ presenter’s debut novel tells the story of four pensioners who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases. When a shady property developer is found dead in suspicious circumstances, the quartet find themselves caught up in their first live crime.
Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners acquired worldwide rights for the film adaptation after a highly competitive auction that featured interest from 14 studios.
Osman had teased “insanely great” casting news on social media earlier this week.
The 53-year-old presenter wrote on the social media platform X: “Just been on a call with Amblin, and the cast for #TheThursdayMurderClub movie is insanely great, I think people are going to love it. Official announcements very soon, and can’t wait to share it with everyone.”
‘The Thursday Murder Club’ started a hugely successful series of books from Osman that have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide – including ‘The Man Who Died Twice’, ‘The Bullet That Missed’, ‘The Last Devil to Die’ and a planned fifth book to be released in 2025.
The ‘House of Games’ host previously revealed that he had had a desire to write a crime novel for many years.
Osman said: “I’ve always known how hard it is to write a crime novel and I have such respect for people who do it. I never felt I was in a position where I could do it properly and give it the time it deserved until about 18 months ago.
“I decided I would start it and once I got going I found that I couldn’t stop. But I decided I wasn’t going to tell anybody because I didn’t want to be that person who goes around saying, ‘Oh yeah, I’m writing a book’, but it never happens. When I got to the end I thought, well, there at least I’ve found out that I can do it. But I had no idea what people would make of it.”

‘Ilsa was becoming a team player’: Rebecca Ferguson on why she left Mission: Impossible

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebecca Ferguson decided to leave the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise because her character Ilsa Faust was becoming a “team player”.
The 40-year-old star’s alter ego was killed off in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ and she felt it was the right time to bow out as Ilsa’s “unpredictable” element was being taken away.
Rebecca told the UnWrapped podcast: “To speak very clearly – because I know a lot of people are sad about it, I’m sad about it – I had filmed three films. My deal was done. And I love her beyond words. Beyond words. I think she’s the most awesome, fantastic character.
“Ilsa was becoming a team player. And we can all want different things, but for me, Ilsa was rogue. Ilsa was naughty. Ilsa was unpredictable. There was a lot of characters coming in, not leaving enough space for what she had been.”
The ‘Dune: Part Two’ actress also explained that she no longer wished to commit so much of her time to making the films in the Tom Cruise-led action series.
Ferguson said: “Selfishly, that’s a lot of time to make a ‘Mission’ film. And unless you’re going to have a lot of screen time, that’s a lot of time sitting around waiting to film a huge movie that could take over a year to film. It’s dedication.
“There’s a moment where you think it needs to be worth it, not just to love the character and to embrace Tom and (Christopher McQuarrie) and the story. I want to work, man. I want to work. I don’t want to sit in a trailer and know that there’s maybe a scene in the credits coming.
“You have to literally jump when they say jump, and that’s why it’s amazing. You’re highly trained, highly skilled. It is so intoxicatingly exciting when you’re rolling, but there’s a lot of waiting. And the more characters that are brought in, the more waiting.”

Amanda Holden says Simon Cowell told ‘BGT’ judges to break show’s rules

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden says Simon Cowell told his ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judges to break the show’s rules this series.
The 53-year-old presenter returns on Saturday (20.04.24) night on the ITV show’s judging panel alongside boss Simon, 64, as well as Alesha Dixon, 45, and 68-year-old Bruno Tonioli.
Alesha has revealed “eight or nine” Golden Buzzer acts went through, despite the rules stating the judges are only meant to have one each.
Amanda has now said on ‘Good Morning Britain’ they decided they all needed more of the acts.
Presenter Adil Ray, 49, asked her: “What’s been going on with the Golden Buzzer this series? Is there a bit of a change or have you been buzzing more than once? You’re breaking all the rules!”
Amanda replied: “We’ve said this week, the rule book has definitely gone out of the window. But Simon always said there are no rules on any of the shows he’s done, that’s probably why I’m still there!
“(There were) nine Golden Buzzers in total. I think Bruno set the precedent last year when he just kept on pressing it.
“There was so much talent when we were in the southern part of England and Simon was so upset that, when we went to Manchester, there wouldn’t be any more Golden Buzzers.
“He said, ‘Everyone gets another Golden Buzzer – we cannot go to Manchester with no Golden Buzzers’.
“So we had more and it was brilliant!”
Alesha has also revealed Bruno pressed the Golden Buzzer so hard it broke, and also told Hits Radio about the she first act she sent directly to the final.
She added: “I often sit there and, you know, nobody wants to ugly cry on television, but I did have one of those moments because I just
couldn’t hold back.
“I always think if you’ve got that opportunity to give someone that special moment and so they can spread the message of what they’re doing on a bigger scale that feels like a really great reason to give someone a golden buzzer.
“So I’m really excited for you to see that.”

Rylan Clark ‘has raunchy sex show axed by Channel 4’

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark has reportedly had his raunchy sex show axed by Channel 4.
The 35-year-old presenter was fronting discussion series ‘Sex Rated’ but bosses are said to have ditched it after only one run.
According to TVZone, the show has been dumped “to make way for a new dating show they hope can be even wilder”.
Rylan talked bedroom antics on the E4 show with its guests, with one segment including them getting a merciless review on their sexual skills from previous partners.
The guests were from eclectic backgrounds, and they were after feedback and advice in order to find out where they were going wrong and how they could spice up their sex lives.
One of them, called Elizabeth, told how she loved outdoor sex so much she romped on a friend’s lawn.
Her partner at the time said she could orgasm 30 times, and she added one word – “bonkers” – could turn her on “again and again”.
It’s been reported TV bosses are now focusing on replacing it with a show called ‘Love Triangle’.
It will see six singletons searching for a partner out of two potential suitors, using text messages to make their choices.
They will be known as ‘Pickers’ and will choose one partner each to go on a blind date before they move in together to fast-track their romance.
Rylan told ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ about his sex show: “Channel 4 wanted to do a show that was sex positive, which I think is very important – you know I’ve been a single man now for two years.
“I believe you should be positive about things like sex, but wanting to have an entertainment spin to it but not horrible… I’ll ask you to rate yourself out of 10 for a number of different subjects to do with sex, and we’ll have a little chat and say, ‘Oh I rate myself an eight for this, a seven for this, a 10 for that’.
“Then we get two of your exes out that have also rated you as well and then we compare those numbers and then I’m sure everyone, me included, have all got different things we can work on in the bedroom.
“We then have our sex-pert Ruby, and we the do our sex-ercise.”

“The best thing about playing the character is that I am never, ever bored by him.”
Mark is returning to the show alongside cast members Tom Chambers (who plays Chief Inspector Sullivan), Claudie Blakley (Mrs Devine), Ruby-May Martinwood (Brenda) and John Burton (Sergeant Goodfellow.)

Glen Powell had Richard Linklater fooled with wacky Hit Man alter egos

OHMYGOSSIP — Glen Powell fooled Richard Linklater with his crazy ‘Hit Man’ personas.
The 35-year-old actor stars in the movie as Gary Johnson – an undercover police officer who adopts various alter egos as a fake assassin – and he delved so deeply into some of the characters that he got the director confused.
Speaking at a screening of the Netflix movie in New York City on Wednesday (17.04.24), Glen said: “My favourite part was, I was on set one day, when I was playing Tanner, the redneck guy with the missing back teeth, such a fun character.
“I was talking to Rick, and Rick literally interrupted the conversation, and he goes, ‘Where’s Glen?’ and I go, ‘I’m Glen! I’m Glen, man, let’s do this.’
“I would come out in character. I’m not like a Method guy, but on those days – I promise, I don’t take myself that seriously – I would come out, out of the van, and I would be full-on until we ended the scene in that character.”
Glen explained that he created many of the personas himself and that Linklater only saw them for the first time on set.
The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ star said: “In this movie, all the characters that I play, Rick didn’t get to see those until I performed them on set. That’s a lot of trust! I knew he was nervous about it, we just didn’t have time.
“He was like, ‘We should look at those characters beforehand, but (also), ‘We gotta handle this re-write first, we gotta do this, we gotta handle casting, we gotta get this location, you gotta go meet the mayor, whatever it is, to get the locations.’
“All of a sudden, we got to game day, and Rick’s like, ‘You got it?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I think I got it, we’ll see!'”

Josie Gibson lands new Iceland role amid huge rebrand for supermarket chain

OHMYGOSSIP — Josie Gibson’s new role as the face of Iceland has coincided with its decision to drop the word ‘mums’ from its strapline.
The TV host, 39, who gave birth to her son Reggie-James in 2018, will feature in its new ads – with the promos seeing a huge change in the supermarket chain’s marketing strategy.
After years of declaring “That’s why mums got to Iceland” in its ads, Iceland bosses will now feature the more neutral slogan of: “That’s why we go to Iceland.”
Executives say it reflects a “growing customer base” beyond mums.
Josie, who has been romantically linked to ITV presenter Stephen Mulhern, 47, said about the change: “I think the new tagline is great because Iceland is not just for mums.
“Even though mums love it, Iceland is for everybody.”
Former ‘Big Brother’ contestant Josie, who now features as a guest host if ITV’s ‘This Morning’, added her new role was “surreal”.
She added: “I remember shopping in Iceland when I was a little girl, so it feels incredibly surreal to be working with them as the face of the brand.
“I love that Iceland is a great British business always doing the right thing for shoppers. I admire and support their commitment to bringing the best value products and deals to its customers.
“Shooting the ad and meeting the team was so much fun and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Josie’s ad, which launched on Friday (19.04.24) shows her loading up on Iceland’s popular items and she will be featured over the next year, including at key shopping occasions such as summer and Christmas.
She has been linked with TV host Stephen after the pair were seen holding hands outside BBC Studios, and when asked by Mail Online if they were in a relationship, Josie said: “I’m in love with Stephen Mulhern. There you go. But story of my life, I don’t think he loves me.”
Josie broke up with ex-boyfriend Terry, who is the dad of her six-year-old boy, after they started dating in 2017.
Their split came five months after their son was born, with Josie also romantically linked with her 38-year-old ‘Big Brother’ co-star, John James Parton – but their romance lasted slightly less than a year after they left the reality show.

Kym Marsh joins cast of ‘101 Dalmatians’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh is “over the moon” to have been cast in the stage production of ‘101 Dalmatians.’
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress landed the lead role of Cruella de Vil in the forthcoming musical production from Douglas Hodge, inspired by the classic 1956 children’s novel ‘The Hundred and One Dalmations’ by Dodie Smit.
She revealed the news to her followers on Instagram, saying: “I’m over the moon to be joining the cast of ‘101 Dalmatians’ playing the iconic Cruella De Vil, has there ever been a more fabulous baddie?!
“Obviously she’s a million miles away from me in real life – and my dogs are very glad about that – but being able to bring to life my take on this renowned character is a real treat.
“Douglas and Johnny (McKnight) have written this brilliant new musical filled with songs I’m already finding myself humming under my breath.
“The ‘101 Dalmatians’ story spans generations and I’m sure young and old alike will absolutely love this production.”

“To be asked to be a Disney witch, which is what Cruella is, was thrilling to me.
“I had a wonderful vocal coach for Cruella, and I loved Joanna Lumley’s accent in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’.
“My coach knows her, and she had that very clipped way of talking.”

Richard Gadd relives horror stalking ordeal that inspired ‘Baby Reindeer’

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Gadd struggled to “shake-off” a female stalker who “heckled him at gigs” and “abused his parents”.
The Scottish actor and writer stars in the Netflix drama ‘Baby Reindeer’ playing a struggling comedian and barman named Donny who is stalked by a woman he meets at work.
It reflects Richard’s real-life stalking ordeal, and although the actor admits he is still recovering from his trauma, he says he’s now “miles away from where he was”.
He told the Metro: ”The legacy remains to a certain point. That’s what trauma does – it’s very hard to shake off. But I’m certainly miles away from where I was.
“I do watch ‘Baby Reindeer’ and think, ‘Donny, that’s not me.’”
The 34-year-old said his stalker bombarded him with thousands of explicit emails, sent him nearly a hundred tweets to his Twitter account and left him 350 voicemail messages on his phone.
But he eventually managed to get a restraining order in place and Richard is glad he can turn his negative experience into a positive.
He added: “Hopefully, ‘Baby Reindeer’ is received well, then the whole ordeal you went through is synonymous with something positive. Therein lies the catharsis.”
The actor adapted the seven-part mini-series for Netflix, and it also stars Jessica Gunning, Nava Mau and Tom Goodman-Hill.
He added: “My idea of what a stalker was, was that they are fundamentally, sort of, psychopathic characters. But it just wasn’t that case. I saw someone very vulnerable, really.
“Stalking, it is a mental illness, a mental state. It’s like, I guess, a fantasy addiction of some kind, and the person genuinely believes the reality in which they are living. It’s just not the reality as it is.
“And I hadn’t really seen that before… there’s a calculatedness to the stalkers, and a sinister, sort of, insidious intent.”

Lesley Joseph dressed like Birds of a Feather character to get recognised

OHMYGOSSIP — Lesley Joseph used to wear leopardprint so she’d get recognised.
The 78-year-old actress is best known for her role as maneating neighbour Dorien Green in ‘Birds of a Feather’ – which ran from 1989 to 1998 and 2014 to 2020 – and she told how during the early days of the show, she’d mimic her alter ego’s wardrobe in real life in order to deliberately attract attention from fans.
She told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “The first episode went out to millions of people and nobody recognised me in the street. So I said, ‘OK, I’m going to do something about this!’ and I went home, put on leopardskin and my make-up, and walked the street again. Then people stopped me.”
The veteran actress also recalled she realised how big the show had grown to be when she couldn’t even go to the loo without being stopped by autograph hunters.
She said: “The first time I realised how big Birds was when I was on the loo in a restaurant.
Somebody knocked on the door and put their hands under with a pen and paper, saying, ‘Would you sign this, please?’”
And Lesley will never forget her first meeting with co-stars Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke.
She said: “It was 1988 and we were taken to The Ritz. I’ll always remember Pauline was wearing trainers and Linda put sparkling water in her Champagne.”
Lesley has just been announced as a trustee of the Actors’ Benevolent Fund, which supports actors who cannot work because of illness, injury or old age, as well as young people trying to make it in the industry.
She said of the organisation: “It’s in everybody’s interest that the Government keeps the arts going. I know a lot of people that have had real problems and I just want to say that if you’re having a really hard time and your back is against the wall, this charity is there to help you.”
