Karen Gillan and Zoe Chao to star in comedy Let’s Have Kids!

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Gillan and Zoe Chao are starring in the comedy ‘Let’s Have Kids!’.
The pair have been cast in the movie that marks the directorial debut for Adam Sztykiel – who has penned the screenplays for films including ‘Due Date’ and ‘Black Adam’.
‘Let’s Have Kids!’ tells the story of lifelong best friends Emma and Phoebe (Gillan and Chao) who decide to have their first babies at the same time so they can navigate the challenge of motherhood together.
However, their friendship comes under strain when only one of them gets pregnant.
Sztykiel has written the script together with Ellie Knaus and the movie is due to begin filming this year.
Karen recently revealed that she wished to take on more dramatic parts after getting the chance to work alongside Russell Crowe in the psychological crime drama ‘Sleeping Dogs’.
The 36-year-old star – who is best known for her roles in ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ – told The Hollywood Reporter: “I don’t know if I really was looking for anything in particular, but I do want to dabble in the dramatic space a little bit more just because I’ve gotten to do a fair bit of comedy and genre stuff. So I wanted to exercise that [dramatic] muscle a little bit, but I was pretty open-minded.
“This just came along, and I always think a sure sign that I should do something is when I’m reading it and I start reading the lines out loud just because it’s fun. So it’s for no one’s benefit but my own, and that’s when I’m like, ‘Well, if I’m having fun doing this right now, I should probably go and do this for a job.'”

Alden Ehrenreich lands role in Weapons

OHMYGOSSIP — Alden Ehrenreich is the latest star to join the cast of ‘Weapons’.
The 34-year-old actor will feature alongside Josh Brolin and Julia Garner in the horror thriller movie from director Zach Cregger.
Details regarding the movie’s plot and Alden’s role are yet to be revealed but it has been described as an epic story that has a similar tone to ‘Magnolia’, Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 movie that had a cast including Tom Cruise.
The film is set to begin shooting in Atlanta in the middle of next month.
Ehrenreich played a young Han Solo in the 2018 ‘Star Wars’ origin movie ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and previously expressed a desire to reprise the part as he felt that he hadn’t explored the character fully.
Asked about a return, he told Uproxx: “If it was the right iteration and the right thing, I would love it. Because, for me, in the first movie you watch him become Han. I got to be Han Solo for the last 15 minutes of the movie, maybe. And so being Han Solo is the fun part.
“And I have no idea if there is ever a world where any of this happens, and if it happens, great, if it doesn’t, whatever.
“But it was really great to… that’s what’s appealing to me about it because in a way they built this sort of origin story for when he becomes who he is, but then that guy is the guy that’s really fun and it’s a ball to play that character specifically.”
Ron Howard directed the movie and admitted that a sequel was unlikely to be made after the picture bombed at the box office.
The ‘Apollo 13’ filmmaker said: “The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for ‘Solo’ is coming from the fans at this point.
“I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.”

Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez reveal plans for big move away from the UK

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez are planning to buy a home in Spain.
The 39-year-old actress is engaged to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Gorka, 33, and the pair are hoping to buy a “home away from home” in the European country by the end of the year, around the time of his debut as a judge on the Spanish version of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition.
Gemma told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “We want to get somewhere so that we always have a home from home. It would be nice to have somewhere that I can just take them with my family. It would help me with mine and their Spanish, and Gorka’s parents could drive down. It’s something we’re hoping to do by the end of this year. We love Spain.”
The former ‘Hollyoaks’ star has Mia, four, as well as eight-month-old Thiago together and insisted that they are “doing alright” since the birth of their second baby.
But Gemma joked a date night to themselves is being able to do the food shop in peace.
She said: “I think we’re doing alright. Everyone said twice the stress, twice the exhaustion, but it’s also twice the love and the lovely chaos. It’s just an understanding and we both know what the other person likes.
“We’re asked if we have date nights but we love being at home.
“The childhood punishment of going to bed early becomes adult pleasures. A date night for us, if my sister or mum can have the kids, is to do a big shop together in peace because you can’t do that with kids.”

Connie Booth will ‘sneak in’ to watch the Fawlty Towers stage show

OHMYGOSSIP — Connie Booth will “sneak in” to watch the ‘Fawlty Towers’ stage show.
The 83-year-old actress starred opposite her ex-husband John Cleese in the classic 1970s sitcom, but almost 50 years after the pair wrote the short-lived series, it will launch as a West End play on Saturday (04.05.24).
Connie’s second husband John Lahr has claimed she will see it at some point, but will keep a low profile.
He told the MailOnline: “She’ll be going to see it – probably not on opening night but she’ll be there.”
The actress has become something of a recluse in the last few decades and has not acted since she starred in a 1995 adaptation of Edith Wharton’s ‘The Buccaneers’.
Her theatre critic husband – who is the son of late ‘Wizard of Oz’ star Bert Lahr – insisted his wife will not be giving any interviews, but he can “understand” why people would be interested.
He said: “I understand people are interested – why wouldn’t they be? Connie is not giving interviews. She doesn’t generally do it anymore.”
A source added that Connie – who played Polly Sherman in the 12-episode series that was all set in Torquay’s most calamitous, fictional hotel – will in no way be using the opening of the play to return to the limelight.
The insider said: “She is looking forward to seeing it, but she likes to keep a low profile these days and stay very much out of the limelight!”
Just days ago, it was announced that the show would be making its way to the stage.
John, 82, said: “What a thrill to be bringing ‘Fawlty Towers’ to the West End for the first time – nearly 50 years since the show was first recorded, in December 1974.
“We’ve been involved in the casting process for some time, being constantly reminded of what a wealth of acting talent we have in Britain – sorting the very, very, very good from the merely very, very good.
“Finally, we assembled a top-class group of comedy actors who will bring the show to the Apollo Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.”

Love Island winners Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan are engaged!

OHMYGOSSIP — Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan are engaged.
The reality TV couple, both 25, shot to fame when they won ‘Love Island’ in 2023, and on Monday (30.04.24) evening the pair revealed they are now set to tie the knot.
Kai wrote on Instagram: “Introducing the next Mrs Fagan.
“Beautiful, Caring, Loving and Smart are just some of the words that describe you. I love loving you, I love you and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.”
The proposal came as a complete surprise to Sanam, who updated followers on TikTok with a video shortly afterwards in which she explained that all she knew was that she had to dress “cute and warm” for their date night, which took place on a punting boat.
She said: “So I’m currently about to get ready for a date night with Kai that he has set up that I know nothing about. All I need know is that I need to dress cute and warm. I’m getting ready in my mum’s house, I’m in my old room.”
Later, the reality TV star admitted she didn’t capture many videos of the magical moment, because she didn’t see initially thought it was just a “random date night” Kai had set up.
She said: “Okay, the biggest thing just happened! We don’t have many videos of the proposal but I did not expect or see this coming. I honestly thought it was just a random date night that Kai had put together but yeah, I am so shocked and happy!”
To finish the evening, the happy couple enjoyed a romantic meal out before heading back to a hotel room which had been kitted out with balloons, petals and a collection of photos from their time together.
Sanam added: “Did I just say yes to the cutest guy in the world?”

Made in Chelsea’s Tristan Phipps ‘in talks for Celebs Go Dating’

OHMYGOSSIP — Tristan Phipps is in talks to join the new series of ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The ‘Made in Chelsea’ star looks set to follow in the footsteps of his ex and fellow reality TV star, Olivia Bentley, who appeared in 2020’s eighth series of the E4 show.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “‘Celebs Go Dating’ bosses have a huge list of stars desperate to be on the show, but Tristan has stood out to them.
“He’s got the whole package – he’s good looking with a fun personality.
“He’s likely to be with a hit with the ladies at the mixers, and could even attract one of his celebrity co-stars, just like Olivia did.”
While filming the show – in which dating agents Paul Carrick Brunson and Anna Williamson help stars to try to find love – Olivia was romantically linked to her ‘Celebs Got Dating’ co-star Josh Ritchie.
‘Love Island’ stars Hannah Elizabeth and Finn Tapp, and Married At First Sight’s Georges Berthonneau have all been linked to the upcoming series.
What’s more, show dating expert Paul recently admitted he would love to see ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Susanna Reid on the programme.
He told OK! Magazine: “Someone like Susanna Reid would be great!
“She is someone who everyone holds in high esteem and everyone likes her, but no one really knows much about her private life.
“It’d be an honour to have Susanna on the show.”
Last year’s 11th series featured the likes of former ‘Love Island’ stars Chloe Burrows and Adam Collard, as well as model Lottie Moss, and TV presenter Vanessa Feltz.

Clarkson’s Farm star Kaleb Cooper ‘blames’ ITV show for ear issue

OHMYGOSSIP — Kaleb Cooper has blamed ‘This Morning’ for his ear injury.
The ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ star has been battling an earache, which occurred after he had to wear an earpiece for a live ‘This Morning’ appearance last week.
He wrote on his Instagram Story: “I’ve got an earache which I’m blaming on ITV, because when I did the This Morning interview I had to wear an earpiece to be able to hear them and since then I’ve had an earache [laughing face emoji]”
But 25-year-old farmer Kaleb admitted he was “in a mood”.
He also joked: “I might be in a mood at the moment!”
Kaleb shot to fame on Amazon Prime Video show ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, in which he helps former ‘Top Gear’ presenter Jeremy Clarkson to run his Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.
In February, Kaleb admitted he “didn’t know what to expect” when he started filming the show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he told stand-in host Christine Lampard: “I didn’t know what to expect, to be honest, I’m not an actor, I’m not on television and I’m just being for myself.
“That works for me because I just turn up to work, do my day-to-day job and get filmed while doing it. I didn’t know what to fully expect when we started but it turned out to be a great success and hopefully, we’re highlighting the farming industry.
“I think we work really well together, we’re good friends on and off camera. Yes, we argue quite a bit but if we argue one minute then two minutes later we’re fine!”
Kaleb also joked he had lost some hair since he started working with Jeremy.
He said: “He’s slowly getting there and I’m not going to say he’s the best because it hurts to say anything good about him but since working with him I’ve lost 34.4 percent of my hair.
“Very precise.”

Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith reveal real reason why Inside No 9 is ending

OHMYGOSSIP — Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith feel it is the “right time” to end ‘Inside No. 9’ while people are “still enjoying it and finding it surprising”.
The co-creators of the BBC Two cult comedy show – in which every episode features the number nine – feel fortunate to have made it to the apt number of nine series, but Steve admitted the show would be “dead” if it started becoming “predictable”.
He is quoted by OK! magazine as saying: “We feel really lucky to have got to nine.
“We don’t have any doubts that it’s the right time to leave it while people are still enjoying it and finding it surprising.
“The moment a show becomes predictable, it’s dead for us.”
Reece added: “We didn’t know we’d be doing it for 10 years.
“Every series was a surprise to us.
“We’ve done so many different things – a lifetime of ideas.”
He joked: “We just wish it was ‘Inside No 2’, then we’d have been done years ago!”
The ninth series features celebrity cameos from the likes of Steve’s ‘Benidorm’ co-stars Siobhan Finneran and Matthew Kelly, and he revealed the pair have been cooking up an idea for one of the episodes for a “long time”.
He said: “We’ve been talking about one episode called ‘The Curse Of The Ninth’ for a long time – it’s about a superstition in classical music that once you’ve composed your ninth symphony, you’re going to die.
“We thought it was good thematically to save this one for the ninth series – hopefully we won’t drop dead next week!”
The pair confirmed in December 2022 that the show will be “paused” after the ninth series.
Steve said at the time: “We feel it is a good time to pause ‘Inside No9’ after we finish filming series nine next year.”

Emmerdale announces special episode amid domestic abuse plot

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ is to show viewers two different perspectives of the same storyline in a special episode, amid a domestic abuse storyline.
The ITV1 soap opera will broadcast scenes on Tuesday 7 May that will depict two different viewpoints of the same dinner party, and the event unfolds in two halves.
Rhona (Zoe Henry), Marlon (Mark Charnock), Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Tom (James Chase) will reveal the intricate dynamics and simmering conflicts in their relationships.
Producer Laura Shaw said: “The dinner party episode puts a sharp lens on the relationships of the gathered people and gives the audience a unique view into their lives.
“Stepping away from the usual ‘Emmerdale’ format, it offers our viewers the chance to see how some relationships like Rhona and Marlon’s can very publicly unravel and fall apart, whereas other relationships, like Tom and Belle’s, can present in public as perfect and behind closed doors tell a very different, much darker story.”
Actress Eden – who has played Belle since 2005 – was “so grateful” for the opportunity to tackle a unique element of the soap, and teased there is “a lot going on” with her and her on-screen husband.
She said: “I’ve never done an episode like this and I’ve never really been part of a special episode in that way, with a focus on my storyline.
“So I’m grateful for the opportunity. I also think this episode is such a representation of Belle and Tom.
“There’s a lot going on and Belle’s not actually aware at this point of any of those things happening.
“So the viewers obviously see what Tom is doing and what Tom’s capable of.
“Belle knows something isn’t quite right, but whenever there’s any situation she completely blames herself and he does a great job gaslighting her into feeling that way.
“I think before this episode, all she wants to do is make him happy and keep the peace and just keep it calm.”
‘Emmerdale’ airs weekday nights at 7.30pm on ITV and STV with episodes available for streaming on ITVX and STVPlayer.

Russo brothers don’t blame superhero fatigue for Marvel flops

OHMYGOSSIP — The Russo brothers don’t think superhero fatigue is to blame for the recent struggles of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The sibling directors have enjoyed tremendous success in the superhero genre with movies including ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and argue that Marvel’s problems stem from a “generational divide” in how audiences consume films.
Joe Russo, 52, told GamesRadar+: “There’s a big generational divide about how you consume media.
“There’s a generation that’s used to appointment viewing and going to a theatre on a certain date to see something, but it’s ageing out. Meanwhile the new generation are, ‘I want it now, I want to process it now’, then moving onto the next thing, which they process whilst doing two other things at the same time.
“You know, it’s a very different moment in time than it’s ever been. And so I think everyone, including Marvel, is experiencing the same thing, this transition. And I think that really is probably what’s at play more than anything else.”
Anthony Russo argues that “fatigue in general” is to blame for the disappointing box office performances and cites the criticism of Westerns to show that it is an “eternal complaint” in the movie industry.
The 54-year-old filmmaker said: “The superhero fatigue question was around long before the work we were doing.
“So, it’s sort of an eternal complaint, like we always used to cite this back in our early days with superhero work.
“People used to complain about Westerns in the same way but they lasted for decades and decades and decades. They were continually reinvented and brought to new heights as they went on.”

Shonda Rhimes: Barbie didn’t need to be a feminist manifesto

OHMYGOSSIP — Shonda Rhimes argues that ‘Barbie’ “didn’t need to be” a “feminist manifesto”.
The ‘Bridgerton’ producer admits that she enjoyed last year’s blockbuster featuring Margot Robbie as the iconic toy doll but was disgruntled with the cultural discourse that put unnecessary expectations on the flick.
Speaking to Variety, Shonda explained: “OK, here’s what I’ll say. If you’re expecting a ‘Barbie’ movie, then I thought it was great.
“But I think a lot of people were expecting so much more, and then tried to make it so much more.
“There was nothing wrong with the movie; I thought it was totally delightful. But the weight people put on a movie about Barbie was very interesting to me.
“I’ve heard the song ‘I’m Just Ken’ in my house every single day because one of my kids sings it all the time. But, yeah, I think that people wanted it to be sort of this feminist manifesto that it doesn’t need to be.”
Shonda is not the only critic of ‘Barbie’ as pop star Shakira revealed earlier this year that her two sons “absolutely hated” the film as they found it “emasculating”.
The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer took her sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, nine, to see Greta Gerwig’s movie last summer but they didn’t enjoy it because of the themes of feminism and patriarchy and she agrees with the children.
The 47-year-old star told Allure magazine: “My sons absolutely hated it [‘Barbie’]. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent.”
Shakira added: “I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide.
“I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost.”

Tributes poured in for the TV actor – who was also known for his role as Jackson Jones in the prison drama ‘Time’ alongside Sean Bean and Stephen Graham – with several of his friends, former colleagues and co-stars rushing to pay their respects.
Author Paul Larkin tweeted: “Shocked and devastated to learn of the passing of Brian McCardie”, whilst producer Paul Larkin admitted he was “devasted” at the news as he remembered how they would both have discussions about the importance of mental health.
He wrote: “Shocked and devastated to learn of the passing of Brian McCardie. Brian was a brilliant friend and we had many discussions about mental health issues where he was a fantastic help to me. As well as that; he was a phenomenal actor. Sleep tight Brother.”
Director Alan Bowman Clarke posted: “I’m saddened to hear about the death of legendary actor Brian McCardie.
“I spoke to him a few times about projects and always found him genuine, passionate, generous and funny.
“I wrote a part for him in a future project. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”
The actor had also starred in an episode of ‘Outlander’ and had recently joined the cast of its prequel spin-off ‘Blood of My Blood’, where he had been cast as the chief of Clan Grant.
Away from acting, Brian was a keen writer and performed his one-man show ‘Connolly’ in London’s West End just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and also toured Ireland giving readings of his poetry.

Shirley Ballas feeling ‘blessed’ after getting cancer all-clear

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas feels “blessed” after getting the all-clear for cancer.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge, 63, previously revealed she had undergone biopsies after last week having a mammogram and has now told fans they have come back clean.
She said on Instagram: “Thank you to you all for your well wishes following my two mammograms, one ultrasound and three biopsies last week.
“I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear – there is no cancer present.
Referring to how she posted a picture of herself with a bandaged chest amid her tests, Shirley added: “Sharing the picture to my story last week very much triggered my emotions but I feel it’s only right for me to share both the highs and the lows of life.
“If I was able to help just one lady, then sharing my picture was worth it.
“I got my recall while on holiday and I immediately cleared my diary to allow for the appointment. I urge all women to do the same.
“Please do not put your mammogram, smear test or in fact any appointment off. They really can change your life. Who knows what may have happened if I put mine off? Get booked, get checked, get your body MOT everyone.
“With immense gratitude to friends, family and fans who reached out. I appreciate you more than you know. Love and hugs, Shirley x.”
Shirley – who had her breast implants removed in 2019 to make it easier for doctors to spot cancer – captioned her health update: “Thank you to you all for your well wishes following my two mammograms, one ultrasound and three biopsies last week.
“I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear – there is no cancer present. X.”
Mum-of-one Shirley, who had her musician son Mark, 37, with her dancer ex-husband Corky Ballas, 63, who she divorced in 2007 after marrying him in 1985 – has a family history of cancer, with her mum suffering colon cancer in recent years and two of her aunts and her great-grandfather dying of the disease.

Pregnant Megan McKenna rushed to hospital

OHMYGOSSIP — Pregnant Megan McKenna was rushed to hospital after suffering a “scary” allergic reaction to medication.
The 31-year-old reality TV star – who is expecting her first child with her fiance Oliver Burke – has revealed she developed a “painful” abscess and then had a reaction to the medication she was given to treat it and she ended up in hospital due to “bad swelling” around her tongue and neck.
In a post on Instagram, Megan apologised to fans for her social media silence and explained her health crisis. She wrote: “Sorry … I’ve been really unwell. I have an abscess which has been the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced and had an allergic reaction to medication I took for it.
“It all led to bad swelling in and under my tongue and neck which has been very scary.”
She went on to thank medical staff for helping her in her time of need, adding: “I can’t thank Birmingham City Hospital enough and the ambulance service for taking care of me this morning. The care I received was amazing.”
Megan insisted she’s now on the road to recovery and just wanted to keep her fans updated. She added: “I’m still recovering and still a bit swollen but I’m on the right medication to help it.
“I wanted to get back to your DMs as I know some of you have been worried about me. Thank you for checking in on me.”
The scare came just weeks after she suffered another adverse reaction to medication which led to her stomach swelling, and Megan previously admitted it left her scared for her unborn baby.
In an Instagram post, ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star explained: “My body is hypersensitive and it is more scarier having that because I worry about it affecting the baby but after speaking to the doctors at the hospital they said it can’t actually affect the baby having an allergic reaction.
“So that’s why I haven’t been on here but I feel so much better and I’ll be back cooking my [Instagram video] dinners for everyone.”

Amanda Holden lands ‘dream job’ with Netflix

OHMYGOSSIP — Amanda Holden has landed her “dream job” with Netflix.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge will reportedly earn £500,000 to host a new dating show for the streaming service, with ‘Cheaters: Unfinished Business’ offering a “conceptual twist” in that it follows eight former couples reuniting after one party was unfaithful to the other.
Amanda told The Sun newspaper: “Sometimes dreams really do come true. All my career I always wanted to host a show about love and relationships – and this is it.
“A series about second chances and unfinished business. I can’t wait to meet and help these couples work out whether they can forgive and forget. I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of it.”
The programme will introduce Amanda to a wider audience around the world.
A source said: “This is a massively exciting new chapter for Amanda, and she reckons the best is yet to come.”
The news comes a few weeks after the 53-year-old star was embroiled in a public row with Sharon Osbourne after she defended Simon Cowell in the wake of the criticism he received from the showbiz matriarch and their fellow former ‘X Factor’ star during their stint on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’.
But Amanda insisted the spat was a “storm in a tea cup” and she’s confident she and Sharon can put the situation behind them.
She said: “Sharon and I have met lots of times and always got on well. I’d like to think we’ll bump into each other again one day soon and have a laugh. I was protecting a friend when asked about the situation. It really was a storm in a tea cup.”
The former ‘Cutting It’ actress – who has to daughters with husband Chris Hughes – is also kept busy with her Heart FM show and partnerships with the likes of QVC, Lipsky and Revolution, and friends are in awe of her work ethic.
A source said: “Amanda is like a Duracell bunny – she literally never stops.
“When she’s not out running or doing some sort of athletic yoga, she’s networking, filming, partying or being a brilliant mum to her two daughters – not necessarily in that order.
“She’s also a fearless negotiator, and an underrated businesswoman. This whole thing with Sharon Osbourne didn’t bother her one bit – she’s fiercely loyal to her mates, and Simon [Cowell] has been excellent to her.
“She is also well aware that you never bite the hand that feeds you.”
