Bergerac: Original Triumph Roadster is back

OHMYGOSSIP — Bergerac’s original iconic Triumph Roadster is returning to screens.
Jim Bergerac’s stylish 1949 red motor will feature in the re-imagined series of the BBC Jersey-based crime drama, which will debut in early 2025 on U and U Drama.
Damien Molony, 40, who is replacing John Nettles, 81, as the lead, said: “When people talk about ‘Bergerac’, two things immediately spring to mind – Jersey and the car.
“We’ve recently wrapped on filming, and I’ve had the best time stepping into the role of Jim Bergerac – I’ve even had the privilege of getting behind the wheel of the iconic Triumph Roadster.
“We couldn’t have re-imagined this series without paying homage to the original, and the car beautifully bridges the two.
“I can’t wait to share it with the fans.”
The show, which was created by the late Robert Banks Stewart and abruptly ended in 1991 after a 10-year run, will honour the iconic detective drama, but with a contemporary twist.
Unlike the original 80s hit, the new fresh talent series by Toby Whithouse, 54, will see one character-led murder mystery run across six episodes, in place of a new storyline in each episode.
Damien will be joined by Zoë Wanamaker, 75, as Charlie Hungerford; Philip Glenister, 61, as Arthur Wakefield; Pippa Haywood, 63, as Margaret Heaton; Robert Gilbert, 36, as Barney Crozier; Sasha Behar, 53, as Uma Dalal; Celine Arden as Kara; and Timothy Renouf, 35, as Julian Wakefield.
According to Tim, the “framework of the story is the same” with Bergerac getting back into investigating crime, but “it’s going to be grittier” and “probably a bit darker”.
John, who also starred in the ITV murder mystery ‘Midsomer Murders’, appeared on ‘BBC Breakfast’ last month where he revealed the brutally honest reason for his absence.
He said: “I got a lovely letter from them.
“They said will you come along and do a little cameo at the end?
“I thought, ‘No, because that would get in the way of the actual production. It would destroy, in some sense, the integrity of the production, I thought.’
“In any case, I’m too old, and I’ve retired. I’ve got to face up to that.”

Freddie Flintoff to reveal all about horror crash in Disney documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Freddie Flintoff is set to reveal all about his ‘Top Gear’ horror crash.
The TV presenter, 46 – who sustained serious facial injuries and broken ribs while filming the BBC show – has given award-winning director John Dower, 62, exclusive access to film his recovery for Disney+.
Produced by South Shore, the untitled documentary will also explore the national sporting hero’s incredible life and cricketing career – which saw him win two Ashes series with England.
It comes as the former country cricket captain has steadily been returning to screens, and he recently inked an agreement to host a reboot of the iconic ITV game show ‘Bullseye’ at Christmas.
The star sustained life-changing injuries after crashing a car while filming ‘Top Gear’ at Dunsfold Aerodrome, in Surrey, in December 2022.
It led to him stepping back from the show – which has now been suspended for the “foreseeable future” by the corporation.
The incident happened midway through the filming of ‘Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams’, which showed footage of the all-rounder a week-and-a-half afterwards.
He said in the clip: “[I] genuinely should not be here after what happened.
“This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already.
“Got to look at the positive side, I’m still here, I’ve got another chance. I’ve got a go at it … a second go.”
The BBC is said to have agreed a financial settlement with Freddie, worth a reported £9 million, The Sun reported.
He returned to the cricketing world as part of the England coaching staff, and was Head Coach of Northern Superchargers men’s team in The Hundred.

Coronation Street’s Whodunnit ramps up as character confesses

OHMYGOSSIP — Coronation Street’s Whodunnit ramps up another notch next week when one Weatherfield resident admits to striking Joel Deering.
Dee-Dee Bailey – who is played by Channique Sterling-Brown – looks set to confess to DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that she whacked her ex with a crowbar on the night of his death.
She will claim it was in self-defence and that he was alive when she departed the scene – but will it be enough to close the case?
Viewers have previously seen Joel’s wronged ex Dee-Dee break down as police ramped up enquiries.
Her own flashback revealed a haunted Dee-Dee reliving the moment she came face to face with Joel that fateful night.
Despite admitting to hitting him, it’s doubtful that will be the end of the case.
Kit has come under increased pressure to get a result, and he has even emerged as a potential culprit due to his recent reluctance to take advice on some lines of enquiry from fellow detective DS Swain (Vicky Myers).
A flashback on Monday night (04.11.24) saw the police officer delete a phone call while snatching a bottle of whiskey from the Rovers bar.
‘Corrie’ revealed the Whodunnit last month after evil Joel’s body was discovered in a river.
Viewers were shocked on October 14th when Joel’s body surfaced, and a postmortem revealed he died before he entered the water.
Several Weatherfield residents looked concerned as Kit announced Joel’s death was being treated as a murder investigation.
Kit began his investigation by informing both Lauren (Cait Fitton) and Dee-Dee, whose lives Joel tried to ruin, that he has been murdered.
Lauren has a strong motive after Joel tried to kill her unborn baby and frame her for the crime, and he carried out plenty of other violence and abuse against her.
But the first suspects were Ronnie (Vinta Morgan), uncle of Joel’s wronged fiancée Dee-Dee, and bully Mason (Luca Toolan), who has tried to turn his life around recently.

Strictly Come Dancing: Jamie Borthwick says training is taking a ‘toll’ on his body

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Borthwick’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ training is taking a “toll” on his body.
The ‘EastEnders’ star, 30, has been showing off his dance moves for seven weeks alongside his pro dancer partner Michelle Tsiakkas, 29, but the high scores do not come without some aching muscles.
He told new! magazine: “Rehearsals have been tiring for me, I’ve gone from zero to 100.
“I can’t say I usually get up and dance for eight hours a day!
“So, it does take a natural toll on your body. But I’m enjoying it.
“Surprisingly, I quite like the muscle aches now.”
The pair have topped the leaderboard in weeks five and six, but it is not the Jay Brown actor’s first time on the hit BBC programme.
He competed alongside professional dancer Nancy Xu in the ‘Strictly’ Christmas special last year – and won.
Jamie – who scored 31 points out of 40 in the latest episode – added: “I went to Sylvia Young Theatre School where we took dance classes, but my first Latin and ballroom [experience] was at the ‘Strictly’ Christmas show in December, which was two weeks of one routine.
“So, I wouldn’t say I’ve got dance experience by any means.
“But really, ‘Strictly’ is like snakes and ladders. You go up a ladder in the week, and then you go down a snake afterwards because on Monday, you’re back to zero again on a brand-new dance that you’ve never done before.
“Everyone on the show is just brilliant. Everyone’s fantastic.
“There are some really great, great dancers, so it’s a tough year, really tough.”

Doctors star Chris Walker feels ‘bereaved’ after soap’s axing as he gears up for emotional finale

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Doctors’ actor Chris Walker feels “bereaved” after the daytime soap was axed after 24 years, and he believes the move is a “crying shame for the industry”.
The 60-year-old star – who played police officer Rob Hollins since 2009 – was in tears shooting the last-ever episode of the BBC show, and the star admitted he will be emotional again on November 14th when ‘Doctors’ airs its final episode.
He told TV Times magazine: “I was – and still am to a degree – a bit bereaved, which I know might sound dramatic.
“My other half, Sharon, said to me, ‘It wasn’t just a job, it became your identity,’ and it’s very sad to lose that.
“And to not be with all the fabulous people who’ve become close friends.
“But life moves on.
“Nothing is forever and the BBC have made their choice, and that’s the way it is.”
Speaking about filming the last-ever episode, he said: “It was incredibly emotional, and I cried.
“Everyone in the building applauded each actor who came back to base for the last time.
“But it was also uplifting, because we all loved each other.”
Chris also believes Doctors’ axing will have a negative effect on the TV industry, because the Birmingham-based soap was a popular training ground for actors and crew members.
He added: “It’s a crying shame for the industry, because of the amount of training we gave people, both behind and in front of the camera.
“In fact, one of my favourite things was when actors came in and it was their first TV role.
“I remember my own first TV job in ‘The Bill’ in 1985.
“Eric Richard, who played Sergeant Bob Cryer, came up to me and said, ‘It’s OK, it’ll be fine.’
“I also did a film in the 80s called ‘The Fourth Protocol’ with Michael Caine, and he went, ‘Ello, Chris Walker, my name is Michael Caine.’
“I said to myself, ‘If I ever get into a position where I can do that, I will.’
“So I always made sure I knew the newbies’ names and said to them, ‘It’s gonna be OK, you’ll do well.’ ”

I’m A Celebrity: GK Barry dubs jungle ‘absolute hell’

OHMYGOSSIP — GK Barry says the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ jungle “looks like absolute hell”.
The 25-year-old social media influencer – whose real name is Grace Keeling – is going Down Under later this month as she takes part in the hit ITV reality show, but she has already shared her despise for bugs and sleeping outside.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It looks like absolute hell.
“I hate bugs. I hate sleeping outside. I’ve never done it.
“And so I think that would be a lot. But I feel like it would also probably be good viewing for other people.”
The star has racked up an audience of 3.6 million on TikTok since her first post in 2020, and has gone on to accumulate 1.5 million listeners to her podcast ‘Saving Grace’ since it launched in 2022.
However, she was embroiled in controversy after featuring adult content creator Bonnie Blue – who claimed she had slept with hundreds of “barely legal men” – on a now-deleted episode.
A source told The Sun newspaper that ‘I’m A Celebrity’ bosses have held “crisis” talks on how they “handle the backlash” when GK enters the show.
When she arrives in camp, she will follow in the footsteps of YouTuber Nella Rose, 27, who was the second contestant to be booted off the show last year, after 17 days in the jungle.
GK will be joined by other big names, including Wayne Rooney’s, 39, wife Coleen, 38, and ‘Loose Women’ panellist Jane Moore, 62.
‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!’ starts on Sunday, November 17, on ITV1 and ITVX.

Sebastian Stan urges people to watch Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice as US election takes place

OHMYGOSSIP — Sebastian Stan thinks people should watch ‘The Apprentice’ to truly “experience” the real Donald Trump as the US election takes place.
The 42-year-old actor plays the controversial businessman-turned-politician in the recent drama and has now argued people need to see the film so that they can discover the truth behind the man who may become the president once more depending on the outcome of Tuesday’s (05.11.24) poll.
During an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, he said: “I can sit here and tell you things you’ve heard already for, like, 30,000 hours, and it’s not really going to make a difference.
“You hear facts, we all hear information, but you don’t experience it. It’s the experience of being with this person for two hours, and seeing where he’s coming from, and really asking yourself at the end of this film, ‘Do you trust this person?’ Do you really trust that this guy is going to make a decision that’s going to be good for you or good for him?
“And let me tell you something: There is one paranoid, scared little man that’s still out there fighting the good fight to get into the membership club of Manhattan and be put on a plaque on a wall.
“He ain’t caring about your situation. It’s that he‘s got to get there first. And that’s just what the film is.”
‘The Apprentice’ – which also stars Maria Bakalova and Jeremy Strong – follows Trump in the 1970s as he becomes one of the most influential and powerful men in America under the guidance of right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn.
The movie received backlash from some viewers who accused it of purposefully misrepresenting the presidential hopeful, but Stan hit back at these claims and warned that “the scariest part is our own level of denial of reality”.
He fumed: “If you want to really know, it’s out there, it’s all been documented for the last 30, 40 years.
“There’s people that are going to say, ‘We don’t know what the truth is anymore.’ That’s the problem.
“He [Trump] has muddled it up so much … You can create your own truth at this point, believe what you want, and that’s what people are doing. But I think if you really care, you can still find it.”

Sir Ridley Scott: Gladiator II won’t get a director’s cut

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ridley Scott has insisted ‘Gladiator II’ won’t receive a separate director’s cut.
The 86-year-old filmmaker has frequently released his own version of his movies after they have left theatres – such as ‘Napoleon’ and ‘Blade Runner’ – but Scott has now revealed he won’t be bringing out an extended version of his upcoming historical epic sequel because he feels he has “earned the right to have the final cut”.
He explained to Collider: “I have the final cut anyway, so my cut that goes out usually is my fault. It is my cut. I’ll go around in circles. I won’t agonize because I cut during the film.
“I don’t get to the end and then start the cut — God knows that would take too long. I cut as I’m going, and I think it’s valid to cut as you’re going because you need to see how you’re doing and how everyone’s performing.”
The blockbuster – which stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen and Joseph Quinn – follows the former heir to the Roman Empire-turned slave who is thrown into the Colosseum to fight for his life and his people.
Mescal recently teased ‘Gladiator II’ – which lands in cinemas on 15 November – would outshine its acclaimed 2000 predecessor because Scott “had more resources at his disposal and put them to great use”.
At the Tokyo International Film Festival on Monday (04.11.24), the 28-year-old actor said: “There’s no better director for focusing on an audience’s sense of entertainment than Ridley Scott.”
Mescal’s co-star Washington – who previously worked with the director on 2007’s ‘American Gangster’ – added the cast had “complete trust” in Scott.
He said: “Obviously, we were in the hand of a master filmmaker so there was a complete trust in what he what he is doing.
“There were so many angles, so many cameras. I had no idea where the view was going to be, but it didn’t matter. With Scott in charge, he said, ‘It freed you to have fun.'”

Jane McDonald reveals she never wanted to depend on a man financially as she reflects on tough times

OHMYGOSSIP — Jane McDonald never wanted to depend on anyone else financially.
The 61-year-old star first found fame as a singer on the BBC docusoap ‘The Cruise’ and has since been a mainstay on British television but insisted that, o the advice of her mother, she never wanted to marry for money and wanted to look after herself in terms of earning money.
She told The Daily Star newspaper: “My mother always said to me, ‘Don’t depend on a man for your money.
“She came from an era where if she wanted anything, my father only gave her so much money a week, which was the norm at that time.
“But she always said, ‘Never ever depend on anybody else for your income!
“So instead of marrying the doctor, I wanted to be the doctor.”
But Jane – who was initially married to her former manager Henrik Brixen from 1998 until 2003 and then had a relationship with Eddie Roth from 2006 until his death in 2021 – found herself in trouble in the years after her initial success and at the end of her marriage decided that she had to be “in control” of things.
She said: “I thought to myself, ‘Right, this is up to me to make this work. You are in control of your own life.
“If you make a mistake that’s OK – learn from it and move on..
The ‘You’re My World’ songstress became a long-standing panellist on ‘Loose Women’ in the years after she shot to stardom, and has also hosted a string of travel documentaries alongside her music career.
Jane has now put pen to paper for her latest memoir ‘Let the Light In’ but admitted that she “hated” the writing process because she had to face everything again, although she is ultimately “pleased” with the tome now that it is done.
She said: “I hated it. I had to face all my failures again and I found that quite difficult. I’m not one that looks back – I’m a person who looks forward to the next thing as much as I possibly can.
“But I’m so pleased I did write the book because I’m sure in my own little way it may help people, who can say, ‘Jane’s been through this so I can do this as well.”

Daisy Ridley reunites with Cleaner director for new action thriller

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Ridley has been cast in new action thriller ‘Dedication’.
The 32-year-old actress is set to reunite with her ‘Cleaner’ director Martin Campbell, who previously helped the likes of ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘GoldenEye’.
As reported by Variety, the movie – which has been written by Dan Gordon – follows Major Billie Jean Parker, who has been relieved of duty after suffering civilian casualties in a high stakes mission in the Philippines.
The Marine Corps commander could lose her career, and after visiting her dying father – a former Marine – she goes to dedication ceremony at a school building being named in his honour.
However, Omar Romatas’ vengeful son Bento takes hostages, which forces Billie Jean into action with a series of traps and strikes.
Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser said: “What a thrill to collaborate with a director of Martin Campbell’s pedigree whose eye for big-scale action was on spectacular display in the Bond franchise.
“Daisy Ridley will perfectly embody the multiple facets of a fallen war hero who is forced into combat mode one last time,”
Highland COO Delphine Perrier described Martin as an “ideal director” for such a “complex and electrifying script”.
She added: “It’s fantastic to have Martin and Daisy teaming up again for ‘Dedication’.
“Martin is the ideal director to bring Dan Gordon’s complex and electrifying script to life.
“It’s a riveting story loaded with engaging characters and we look forward to introducing this powerful adventure to our global partners.”
‘Star Wars’ actress Ridley is also set to reprise her role as Rey again in ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’.
She recently told The Hollywood Reporter: “I feel like the new one/new ones will be so interesting.
“Time has passed and a lot has changed for me, personally, so it’ll be interesting to come back to someone who I know so well, but in such a different moment.
“For me to inhabit Rey again after all the time that we haven’t seen her, it’s actually scary, but it’s also exciting.”

Cillian Murphy insists he is ‘excited, not nervous’ about his first role since Oppenheimer

OHMYGOSSIP — Cillian Murphy is “excited” about his first role after ‘Oppenheimer’.
The 48-year-old actor enjoyed Oscar-winning success as the titular wartime hero in the 2023 drama and as he gears up to both star and produce in ‘Small Things Like These’ – which follows an Irish coal merchant in the 1980s who discovers secrets about his life – and is “not nervous” because the fate of a film is never sealed until after it is released.
He told Collider: ” I’m not nervous, I’m excited. A film isn’t finished until the audience sees it. So I’m very, very invested in what the Irish people think. And the book is so beloved here, and it’s on the curriculum. My young fella is learning it in sixth year. So I think a lot of people know what they’re gonna get going into it. But I also just think art is a good way of looking at these difficult times in history, in the history of any country. We’ve played this film in Berlin, obviously, and it did really well, and we played it in America, and there is a universality to it that people are really responding to, which is brilliant.”
The former ‘Peaky Blinders’ star doesn’t want to “tell people what to think” when it comes to art, and wants to leave audiences to decide themselves whether the film is “pure entertainment” or whether there is a moral to the story.
He said: “I’m very reluctant to ever tell people what to think. What happens with this film is that it goes to black, and then the credits roll, and people stay in their seats and they stay and they start chatting. Because the film only really starts where the screen goes black. People have many different points of view. I just want people to be provoked. It’s a provocation to say, like, ‘What do you think about this?’ And it can be just pure entertainment, or it can be something more. I like films that have a point of view and poke at you gently to say, ‘What do you think about this?'”

Katherine Ryan doesn’t know if she can ‘risk’ another miscarriage

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan isn’t sure if she is “willing to risk” another miscarriage.
The 41-year-old comedienne has Fred, three, and 23-month-old Fenna with her husband Bobby Kootstra as well as 15-year-old Violet from a previous relationship but has suffered three pregnancy losses in recent years so she isn’t sure if she can go through the process again in the middle of her hectic career.
She told OK! Magazine: “We’ve always gotten pregnant with the babies quite quickly. I’ve been pregnant five times in five years, but that also means I’ve had three miscarriages in five years and the likelihood of that increases as you get older.
“You have to find a balance between what you can personally stand and risks you’re willing to take. I’m working a lot and I don’t know if I could have a medical emergency like that while I’m in Lisbon on Thursday.”
The former ‘Taskmaster’ star was then asked about the prospect of having a child through surrogacy, but dismissed the idea because while she thinks that the concept is “wonderful”, she believes it would be “exploitative” for her to employ another woman to carry her baby.
She said: “It’s controversial to say but I wouldn’t want that labour – both literal and also the workload – to fall on another woman. I think surrogacy is wonderful. It’s beautiful for people who are really eager to offer it and for couples who need it but for me, I think it would be exploitative.
“We’ve taken this year to focus on the tour. It’s the first time I’ve toured in a long time without a newborn or pregnancy and these are things that working mothers in every industry have to consider.”

Channel 4 creating new game show based on concept of ‘flipping a coin’

OHMYGOSSIP — Channel 4 is reportedly creating a new gameshow that will see contestants make decisions by rolling dice.
The new programme is based on the concept of “flipism” and will follow a concept set out in previous works of literature as contestants deal with “unpredictable outcomes” as they make their way through the format.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “It follows an idea that has been explored previously, in ‘The Dice Man’, by Luke Rhinehart, where a character makes daily decisions based on the casting of a die.
“Or Danny Wallace’s book ‘Yes Man’, where he answered affirmatively to every proposition put to him and observed the often unpredictable outcomes.
“There’s also the concept of flipism, which is based on deciding things depending on flipping a coin.”
The insider noted that the production is still in its testing stages with a pilot but it is though that the show as a “good chance” of being commissioned for a full run.
The insider added: “Whatever method is chosen, it’s all about what happens when decisions are taken out of our hands and determined by something else entirely.
“At this stage, it’s just a pilot, but the concept is so intriguing it stands a good chance of making it to a full series.”
The production company for the show, Five Mile Films, has put out an appeal for contestants, who can take part as either individuals or as pairs.
It read: “Stuck in a rut? Want to change things in your life but don’t know where to start? Want to be braver, more decisive?
“We are making a pilot of a new TV series, where participants use dice to make all their decisions, big and small.
“If you think you could be getting more out of life, then get in contact.”

Loose Women star Judi Love reveals why she has no problem going on holiday alone

OHMYGOSSIP — Judi Love likes to go travelling alone for the sake of her mental health.
The 44-year-old comedienne – who has a daughter, 19, and a son, 14, from a previous relationship – is fronting ‘Judi Love’s Culinary Cruise’ for ITV and after filming the five-part travel series, admitted that she often takes herself on solo trips so she can resume her normal life having found “inner peace” in her time away.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “I have been on holiday a few times on my own. As a mum, and a single mum, as a woman in society, there’s so many things that we navigate through. As a woman working. There’s so many things that we navigate through, we’re always nurturing. It’s really important to find a space for yourself, obviously you’re doing it safely. I think it’s really nice that you can really be still, get your favourite book. Even if it just means you get to lie in or walk and take a bit of a view.
“My sister came with me and most days she was like ‘All the best’ and she was off out by herself. I will travel by myself, I will go to the cinema by myself. But definitely the solo trips, I find fantastic.
“It’s a real moment to get some inner peace, some self-reflection, time by yourself to come back to whatever it is whether you’re a mum at home, which is a full-time job, whether you’re like us on TV or doing a nine to five job. I think it’s important to find that space.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant worked in social care before carving out her career in standup comedy and joined ‘Loose Women’ after producers spotted a viral video of her on Instagram complaining about a roundabout.

Ariana Grande understands her pop star past is an issue with Wicked casting

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande understands the controversy surrounding her ‘Wicked’ casting because of her lack of acting experience.
The 31-year-old singer stars as Galinda Upland in the upcoming musical movie and has insisted she knew it would be a “challenge” to break people’s preconceived ideas about her given her pop music career.
Reflecting on her role during an appearance on the ‘Sentimental Man’ podcast, Grande said: “This is something I loved so much about auditioning for ‘Wicked’. It has to be earned.
“Anything on this scale, being a part of anything, it’s not just given because they know for one thing. So, it’s fun to kind of have the challenge of reframing people’s perception and doing the work to earn your way back into the other spaces.”
The ‘Thank U, Next’ hitmaker added she was somewhat wary about the potential backlash to her casting as The Good Witch, though emphasised that fans hadn’t seen the extensive training she underwent to prepare for the role.
She said: “I felt a little bit of the initial nervousness or the sort of preconceived notions about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver, or why I would be wrong or whatever.”
Even so, Grande knew that her pop career would have actively worked against her for more cynical observers.
She explained: “Going off of ‘Side to Side’, I probably would’ve said the same thing.
“I probably would’ve said, ‘Why the f***? Kill me. I’ve waited 20 years for this. Kill me.’ I would’ve said that — as a fan from the outside knowing of only ‘7 Rings’, probably — I’d say, ‘Well, that’s b******’ So, you know, I get it.”

I’m A Celeb: Louise Minchin found the sense of ‘being controlled’ ‘very intense’

OHMYGOSSIP — Louise Minchin struggled with the “sense of being controlled” on ‘I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!’
The 56-year-old presenter competed on the ITV1 survival show in 2021 when it had to take place in Gwrych Castle, Wales because of the COVID-19 pandemic and has now based her thriller ‘Isolation Island’ on the experience of being evacuated during Storm Arwen.
She told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “We were all evacuated in the dead of night and sent into little Airbnbs across north Wales.
“The storm was very dramatic. It took ‘I’m A Celeb’ off air. We were in one strange environment then thrown into another with no access to the world.”
“One of my vivid memories is waking up in the morning when it’s quiet, and you’re the only person awake, and then you sit up and you hear the camera whir and focus on you.
“So there’s a real sense of being controlled. For me, it was very intense.”
Louise has held on to the idea of a novel for a while, but she changed her mind about having her main character, investigative journalist Lauren, being in a newsroom environment, following her reality TV stints.
She added: “I’m a massive fan of reality shows. I love ‘I’m A Celebrity’, and I love that they always have a cast of characters, and I loved the idea of being able to make up my own cast of characters.
“The feeling I hope you get from the book is that feeling of intense scrutiny. You are being watched all the time.
“Everything you do and say is being watched. There’s a sense of claustrophobia and isolation from family and friends.”
Louise is best known for hosting ‘BBC Breakfast’ alongside Dan Walker but quit the early morning news programme just before her ‘I’m A Celebrity’ stint after almost a decade.
She has now dedicated her time mostly to writing, but has occasionally stood in for Lorraine Kelly on her eponymous ITV1 chat show.
As for doing more reality shows, Louise said: “I’m desperate to do ‘Race Across the World.
“It’s tough in a wonderful way because of the relationships we see forming.
“If the right show came along, I’d be very happy. But I’m also very happy writing.”
