Daisy Ridley trained with Olympian for swimming role

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Ridley spent months training with Olympian Siobhan-Marie O’Connor for her new role as a marathon swimmer.
The ‘Star Wars’ actress plays plays the lead role in ‘Young Woman and the Sea’ – a biopic about Gertrude Ederle, an American swimmer who became the first woman to swim across the English channel in 1926, and spent months completing intense training in the Black Sea with British silver medal winner Siobhan.
Director Joachim Ronning told Variety: “I wanted to be on the ocean. I wanted to be in the real elements with Daisy Ridley swimming through the currents and cold water …
“[Daisy] started training for months and months, open water swimming with Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, the English Olympic medalist swimmer.
“They trained and she learned period swimming – how they swam 100 years ago.
“When she went into the water, she was tough. She never complained and was always going for it, and asking ‘Do you want one more?’ and her lips were turning blue.”
Daisy previously revealed the on-camera swimming was pretty tough. She told Deadline at the movie’s premiere: “I was really alone in the Black Sea, and I was really trying to keep pace with the camera.
“And then I was trying to keep pace with the boat and the camera boat. I trained for three months and then we were training during filming.”
The ‘Star Wars’ actress added: “And then we did the big swim at the end. So it was nine days in the Black Sea. It was overwhelming. It was cold. Each time, it was scary.”
Daisy explained she realised that all her hard work had paid off when she got to witness the finished movie.
She said: “You can see that it’s the open water. You can see that I’m there, and it adds to the majesty of the story. And also, it’s just a tiny part of what Trudy did, which is crazy.”

Iain Stirling: ‘Love Island is just a TV show!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Iain Stirling thinks ‘Love Island’ is all just “a bit of fun”.
The 36-year-old comedian has narrated the ITV2 dating series since its revival was launched in 2015 and when asked whether people really do find love on there, he insisted that it is all simply a TV show in the end.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “It’s getting there, people have got babies now. It’s quite a long list. I performed a role at Alex and Olivia [Bowen]’s wedding. They were the first to get married, they weren’t the first to have a child.
“It’s a television programme, so why are you getting so wound up about it? It’s a bit of fun. Some people come up to me and say ‘They don’t even love each other!’ Well, it’s a television programme.’ If you wanna be cynical, look at the general election coverage!
“That’s something to be cynical about. What do I know about anything? But I just think it’s a lot of fun and it’s on at 9pm tonight. Have a laugh. It’s a nightmare to know what to watch on TV these days, so just put on ITV2 or ITVX!
“It’s a dating show and it’s a lot of fun and you might end up pregnant!”

‘Love Island’ returns on Monday 3rd June at 9pm On ITV1, ITV2, ITVX, STV And STV Player, and in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player

Corrie legend Alison King reveals her daughter is set to follow in her acting footsteps

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison King’s daughter wants to follow in her footsteps and become an actress.
The 51-year-old soap star has 15-year-old Daisy with former partner Adam Huckett and revealed that she has enrolled her into the Actor Tribe school in Manchester, which holds masterclasses with the likes of Suranne Jones and Peter Kay.
She is quoted by the Daily Star’s HotTV column as saying: “There’s nothing Daisy loves more than to go to her acting school on a Saturday.
“She goes to Actor Tribe and there’s just nothing more inspiring than that.”
Alison starred in the Sky One football drama ‘Dream Team’ in the early 2000s and also made guest appearances on the likes of ‘Cold Feet’ and ‘Holby City’, but her big break came when she was cast as Underworld boss Carla Connor in the ITV1 soap opera ‘Coronation Street’ in 2006.
Having been with the programme ever since, Alison admitted that the job “means everything” to her because it gives her the chance to balance a regular workload with bringing up her daughter.
She said: “It means everything, being able to do this job – and being able to bring up my child and see her most nights and weekends is incredible. It inspires Daisy to follow the path she wants to take.”
Over the years, her character has had numerous lovers on screen and was married to Paul Connor (Sean Gallagher) when she first appeared but he was killed in a car crash and she later had an affair with his brother Liam Connor (Rob James-Collier) when he was engaged to Maria Sutherland (Samia Longchambon).
Following Liam’s death, she was briefly married to Tony Gordon (Gray O’Brien) – who had arranged his murder – then married Nick Tilsey (Ben Price) and later tied the knot with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) on two separate occasions, but broke things off with him towards the end of last year.
On the idea of Carla having another romance, she said: “I don’t think she’s ready for another relationship at all and she’s definitely not got her eye on anybody.
“I don’t think she’s thought twice about it. I think it’s the last thing on her mind.”

Dave Myers’ widow speaks out for the first time following his death: ‘He’s everywhere…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Myers’ widow Liliana Orzac still feels his presence “everywhere”.
The ‘Hairy Bikers’ star and TV chef passed away in February at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer and now Lili – who he tied the knot with in 2011 – has admitted that there is a “different layer” to her grief because she could turn on the television and see him there at any moment.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, she said: “Everybody who loses somebody in their lives misses them but there’s a different layer because if I turn on the TV, he might be on. There are cookbooks in the house everywhere. He is everywhere. It just transpires and rolls on into this beautiful thing.”
Lili recalled that she was running a hotel in Romania when she met the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ star and he ended up staying there by accident, but they soon forged a relationship over email while he filmed his hit culinary series with Si King.
She said: “I didn’t know he was the one. It took him two years to convince me! I was running a hotel and he just accidentally ended up staying there, they were booked somewhere else.
“The jewels that he threw at me at the beginning were words. We met when, he was on the very first series of ‘Hairy Bikers’, and after Romania, they traveled to Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, and India, all beautiful places and he used to send me these beautiful emails about the food, people, the cultures. So I had these wonderful emails about these wonderful trips and it just fascinated me.
“Then we thought we’d meet up and after he finished filming, we used to meet up for weekends in different places in Europe.”
Following his death, Lili – who has children Izabelle and Sergiu from a previous relationship – was inundated with messages around the globe from fans who were desperate to do something and now thousands of bikers are expected to travel from London to Dave’s hometown of Barrow-in-Furness on Saturday (08.06.24), all in aid of Cancer Research.
The ride will be headed up by Dave’s friend Jason ‘Woody’ Woodcock and his co-star Si.
She said: “After he passed, I had so many messages from all over the world asking how they could pay respect. People wanted to pay respect and loved him for that energy that he had always. “This idea came to do a motorbike ride in his memory, to celebrate his life. Right after he passed, there was this comment on socials that I picked up on. This person was saying ‘Dave, brave Dave. Dave should be the synonymous to joy, and zest for life’ So when we’re having a good day we should say ‘I’m having a Dave day.'”

Outnumbered Christmas special to see major shakeup to fan-favourite setting

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Outnumbered’ family house will reportedly be absent in the new Christmas special.
The BBC sitcom – which ran from 2007 to 2016 and starred Hugh Dennis and his now-partner Claire Skinner as Pete and Sue Brockman – was filmed at a terraced house in Wandsworth, South West London, but a source has claimed production for the upcoming festive one-off will take place elsewhere.
An industry insider told The Sun newspaper: “Locals are pretty gutted by the realisation as they always liked the association of the rather middle-class family being in their neighbourhood.
“It didn’t harm house prices either — the house in question is estimated to be worth around £1.7million.
“So although Mr. and Mrs. Brockman might have been sad at the kids leaving home, downsizing would have seen them laughing all the way to the bank.”
The 40-minute episode will follow the hardships the Brockmans face in living in a smaller home and parenting their adult children Jake, Ben and Karen, who are played by Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez respectively.
With filming set to get underway in November, Hugh has admitted he “doesn’t really know” anything about the special, which is also set to see Mr. and Mrs. Brockman become grandparents.
During an appearance on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “It’s great that it’s coming back.
“We are doing this 40 minute special but we don’t really know anything about it. We’ve read in the paper that we’ve got a grandchild but we don’t know who’s kid it is.”
The comedian added it would be “strange” to not see the Brockmans living under the same roof anymore.
He continued: “I’m really looking forward to it and we’re all looking forward to it. It’s going to be strange, isn’t, it because I don’t think we live together anymore as a family.
“There’s lots of different stuff to reflect and one of the great things about the show was to reflect life as it actually was.”

Madonna revives biopic plans after completing Celebration tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna is once again working on her biopic.
The Queen of Pop put plans for the film on hold last year as she embarked on her Celebration tour to mark four decades in music but has now revived the big screen project and is hoping to finalise the script with Universal Pictures this summer.
‘Ozark’ star Julia Garner is still set to play the ‘Vogue’ hitmaker and is said to have been secretly having singing and dancing lessons for the past year in preparation for the part.
Madonna believes that the success of music biopics ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Rocketman’ – about Freddie Mercury and Sir Elton John respectively – means that her movie will appeal to fans.
A Hollywood source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Madonna has only just finished her tour but in her mind it is on to the next project and fulfilling her dream of getting the biopic made.
“Julia is still her lead actress and they have remained in touch for the past year, talking through ideas. They are committed to creating some magic.”
The insider added: “Madonna feels that Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Elton John’s ‘Rocketman’ biopics have paved the way for her.
“She wants to make this more unique and dramatic than those.
“A range of secret meets are being organised with Universal Pictures to get the project nailed down.
“There is a lot of work on with locking down the rest of the cast, arranging shoots and completing the script but the hope is that they can start filming in the next 12 months.”
Madonna, 65, is planning to direct and produce the movie as she wants to be in control of her own story.
She said: “I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film.
“It was also a pre-emptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men.
“So I put my foot in the door and said, ‘No one’s going to tell my story, but me.'”

Denis Villeneuve ‘disappointed’ that Dune: Part Two still rules box office

OHMYGOSSIP — Denis Villeneuve is “disappointed” that ‘Dune: Part Two’ remains the highest-grossing film of 2024.
The 56-year-old director’s sci-fi epic is still the most successful film of the year despite being released in March and he thinks that it is a sad indictment of the film industry that none of the summer blockbusters have been able to surpass it.
Speaking after receiving the Academy Icon Award at the Canadian Screen Awards, Denis said: “I think we need movies that are theatrical experiences, that will fully embrace the power of the theatre, and I’m not just talking about ‘Dune 2’. Of course I’m talking about many movies.
“A movie like ‘Civil War’, for instance, is a strong example of a movie that absolutely used the power of the theatre. I was lucky that ‘Part 2’ did reach the audience, I wish it would happen more often, honestly.
“I’m disappointed to still be number one… I hope soon that there will be other successes at the box office. I hope, sooner or later, that this summer box office will be much better.”
Villeneuve used his speech to urge Canada to protect the film industry at a time when “culture” is more important than ever.
The filmmaker said: “We must never take things for granted. Canada must keep encouraging its artists in times when even the notion of truth is challenged.
“Culture is more than ever fundamental for the health of our democracy, and cinema being the most powerful art form ever created. I know I’m biased, I’m sorry.
“And we must take care of our film industry. Make it grow and make it flourish. We will all benefit from it.”

Sydnie Christmas reveals how she will spend her Britain’s Got Talent winnings

OHMYGOSSIP — Sydnie Christmas wants to spend some of her ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winnings on a singing coach.
The 28-year-old aspiring West End actress was crowned champion of the 17th series of the ITV1 talent show on Sunday (02.06.24) after wowing with a rendition of the Judy Garland classic ‘Over the Rainbow’ and ahead of her spot on the Royal Variety, admitted she wants to use some of her £250,000 prize to employ the vocal coach who guided her through the competition.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’, she said: “I still can’t…it’s sort of like not even about the money because this is just amazing.
“I loved my singing coach on ‘BGT’, Annabel Williams, she was amazing and I said to her ‘I can now afford you once a week!’ Absolutely. She’s made me a better singer in two months compared to when I went to college for three years!”
Sydnie – who earned a place in the semi-finals immediately after her first audition when judge Amanda Holden pressed the Golden Buzzer – also explained that she has had some interest from top agents but “cannot believe” that those who represent the top showbiz names are willing to take her on.
She said: “I’ve had some interest from some really good agencies and it’s just picking the right one for me. I’m hellbent on an agency just sorting things out. It’s so exciting.
“The people that are on their books, I just look at the page and wonder if I’m worthy to be with those people on that page. These are people that I’ve grown up watching.”
Her comments come shortly after an insider claimed that theatre producers are already showing major interest in casting the gym receptionist because she has the power to “super-charge” sales at the box office.
The source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “She is set for big things. Her name in any production could super-charge ticket sales, and there has already been a lot of interest.”

Jeremy Clarkson doesn’t understand why youngsters would want to be farmers

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson can’t fathom why young people would want to become farmers.
The 64-year-old TV star has been documenting the struggles of looking after his land and livestock in his Amazon Prime show ‘Clarkson’s Farm’, and has now admitted he doesn’t understand why youngsters would want to put up with the “mud, pain and sadness” of farming life.
In his column for The Sunday Times, he wrote: “God knows why a young person would look at my farming show and think, ‘Mmm, that’s what I want to do for a living.’
“Sure it’s fun to whizz about at harvest time, playing with heavy machinery and drinking cider, but for the other 50 weeks of the year, it’s mostly a smorgasbord of mud, pain and sadness, and it’s all topped off with a pay packet that would disappoint a Congolese miner.”
Last month, the former ‘Top Gear’ presenter released the third series of his farming show, which garnered a lot of praise for providing viewers with an insight into the difficulties of making end’s meet in the industry.
‘Countryfile’ host Matt Baker applauded Jeremy and the show, hailing it as “brilliant” for British agriculture.
He was quoted by the Daily Star saying: “For Clarkson to come into this world and question it and say, ‘What’s happened to this? Why is this like this?’ – those are brilliant questions that actually need answering. “He’s brought a whole new audience to rural TV.”
At the moment, ‘The Grand Tour’ presenter is filming for the next series of his farming programme, though admitted he and his team don’t know what will be included in the upcoming series.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “We’re doing series four now.
“And every single day when we meet for filming, we have a vague idea about what I need to do, but I can guarantee it will change because the weather has changed, or some fence will have fallen down.
“And you never know what you’re going to end up doing. As long as you get content, it doesn’t matter what it is.”

Toby Jones hails Post Office campaigner Alan Bates as a ‘hero’

OHMYGOSSIP — Toby Jones has labelled Post Office campaigner Alan Bates as a “hero”.
The 57-year-old actor played the sub-postmaster in the ITV drama ‘Mr Bates Vs The Post Office’ – which followed the Post Office scandal that saw hundreds of sub-postmasters wrongly convicted due to the faulty IT system Horizon – and he has now heaped praise onto Alan for fighting for justice for the victims.
At the Hays Festival, he told the crowd: “I get to play a hero. Really, someone who I think of as a hero. Someone in the culture who just doesn’t seem to be subject to the same forces that we all are.”
Toby then revealed Alan had been approached to open Glastonbury Festival, but turned it down to continue his campaigning.
He continued: “He can’t be bought. He’s asked to open Glastonbury: ‘No, thank you’. He’s asked to do these things, he doesn’t want to do any of that. He says, ‘I’ve got work to do’, which is to get that stuff done.
“He’s a hero and he doesn’t want any honours until he’s finished the job. And these are values that, I’m not going to say I grew up with, but I sort of remember being lectured about. About duty and about following things through.”
Although the programme went on to become a major success – winning the Jury Prize at the Broadcasting Press Guild’s award ceremony – the show’s writer Gwyneth Hughes admitted she thought the series would disappoint.
During an interview with Sky News, she said: “We’ve all been blown away by it [the reception].
“On the eve of transmission, our boss sent us all a comforting email warning us that it probably wouldn’t do that well, and probably not many would watch it.
“So we woke up [the] next morning and he literally thought he had misheard the ratings, and it just has got bigger and bigger.
“The whole thing is unbelievable, the story of the postmasters, and what happened to them was completely unbelievable from beginning to end and this is just the latest unbelievable chapter in the unfolding, ongoing story.”

Bob Mortimer admits he and Vic Reeves have ‘drifted apart’

OHMYGOSSIP — Bob Mortimer has “drifted apart” from Vic Reeves.
The comedian, 65, had appeared alongside his 65-year-old TV co-star, whose real name is Jim Moir, on a number of programmes – including the BBC gameshow ‘Shooting Stars’ – though the pair have not shared the screen since ‘Vic and Bob’s Big Night Out’ in 2019.
Now, Bob has revealed his misses working with his showbiz pal.
He told Richard Herring during an appearance on the ‘RHLSTP’ podcast: “I got on great with Jim, but no, we’re both doing our own little things at the moment.
“We had a lovely time, but you get older.
“I wish I’d done more with Jim, you know, when we were younger, because now, we have drifted apart.
“As I get older, I think of all the lovely people I’ve known and don’t see them anymore – it just seems to happen.”
Vic previously admitted he “never really speaks” to his comedy partner anymore.
During an interview with Radio Times, he said: “We never really speak much. Bob and I have never been ones for talking on the phone.
“[I’ll] see him now and then and have a chat about things.”
The comedian added people often assumed that his life was intertwined with Bob’s.
He said: “People have always thought that with me and Bob. ‘Do you go out in the evening?’, We always said no, we don’t.
“We see each other in the daytime, we film. We used to, when we were in our 20s, go out to the boozer, but we don’t really do that any more.”
Since parting ways, the comedian became preoccupied with his Sky Arts ‘Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir’ – which he presents alongside his wife – while his former ‘Shooting Stars’ host went on to helm the BBC reality show ‘Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing’ with Paul Whitehouse.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah plan to take Bad Boys across the world

OHMYGOSSIP — Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah hope to take the ‘Bad Boys’ franchise global.
The filmmaking duo have helmed ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’, the latest installment in the buddy cop franchise, and are keen to take Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s detectives Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett away from Miami.
Adil told Screen Rant: “It’s got to go international. We’ve not seen the ‘Bad Boys’ in London or in Paris or in Asia. So, we’re ready for it.”
The directors have returned to the franchise after making the 2020 film ‘Bad Boys for Life’ and the pair explained that getting behind the camera again on the series wasn’t always the plan.
They told Extra.ie: “Well, when we did ‘Bad Boys: For Life’, there was no plan (to return), because otherwise (‘Bad Boys 4’) would have been called ‘Bad Boys: For Life’. So, it would have been more useful.
“And then the movie was extremely successful and so we knew then, ah, yeah, we’ll go for another ride.”
The duo explained that it was easier to make this movie as they are now experienced in the world of high-profile Hollywood projects.
They said: “There was a big difference between the previous movie where we went from small Belgian movies and all of a sudden a big Hollywood project with big stars and Jerry Bruckheimer.
“We were stressing because it felt like something very surreal and imposter syndrome. And now, we have made the previous one, we made ‘Ms. Marvel’ (on Disney+), we have some more experience, so we were much more relaxed and we could focus just on trying to make the movie as funny and cool as possible.”
The pair continued: “And also, our friendship with Will and Martin just, you know, became much more personal. So now we could be totally super honest to each other and you feel that behind the camera and in front of the camera – the friendship and the love that we have for each other.”

‘That movie has not been fully nailed’: Paul Walter Hauser had doubts about joining The Fantastic Four cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Walter Hauser was hesitant to join the cast of ‘The Fantastic Four’ after the poor performance of previous movie adaptations.
The 37-year-old star will play an undisclosed role in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) picture and confessed that he had a sense of unease about the project as previous movies – including the disastrous 2015 film – have flattered to deceive.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul said: “Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not take the job. That movie has not been fully nailed just yet.
“But I really do think the combination of the screenplay, and the department heads that are working on the film, and that classy cast of really exciting actors – some of them known for a long time, and some of them having a moment right now – (make me feel that) this movie is special, and it was something I wanted to be a part of.”
Paul revealed that he was persuaded to join the project after discussing it with director Matt Shakman over dinner.
The ‘Cruella’ actor said: “Matt Shakman directed me years ago in ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’. To come back together and collaborate on this movie in some capacity, it’s really exciting. I’m excited to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Joseph Quinn is also appearing in the film as superhero Johnny Storm/Human Torch and recently dismissed fears that superhero fatigue could hinder the project’s performance at the box office.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Joseph said: “I think that with the story of the Fantastic Four, it feels like we want to get this right.
“There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me. And again, going back to who’s involved, Matt, of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and I’ve read it and the script is brilliant. It’s really brilliant. I’m delighted to have this opportunity.”
The ‘Stranger Things’ actor continued: “Superhero movies are movies about people. And if we’re invested in the people and the characters and the peril and the spectacle, then that’s why people go to the theatres to watch films. We’re not just in a penny; we’re in for a pound with this one. We’re going to go for it.”

Joey Essex becomes first celerity ‘bombshell’ to enter ‘Love Island’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey Essex is the first celerity ‘bombshell’ to enter ‘Love Island’.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ regular, 33, says he has become so desperate to find love he put himself forward to appear on the ITV dating show.
Joey – who entered the programme at the end of Monday (03.06.24) night’s episode – told The Sun about how series bosses launched a “military operation” to keep his arrival in the series secret: “I feel like Joey Bond, ‘the names Essex, Joey Essex. It felt like a military operation, not even the journey itself but the process of even getting through the application process and to this point.
“I got on the plane to Ibiza, I made sure I still wore my mask when I went out for dinner, and then we got the boat over to Majorca to a villa hidden in the mountains in the middle of nowhere.
“I’m extremely single right now, so I’m praying that I’m going to walk out of the villa hand in hand with the love of my life, that’s my main aim and all I care about.
“It’s difficult for me to meet girls on the outside as they judge me based on a persona so I think this experience will allow for people to see the real me.”
He added about his quest for love: “I just want someone to like me for me and now from what they see on TV.
“This is exactly why I’m going into the villa because you’re disconnected from the rest of the world and can focus on what actually matters on a far deeper level.”
Since ‘TOWIE’, Joey has racked up TV appearances on panel shows and on reality shows from ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ to ‘Dancing on Ice’.
He was previously engaged to Sam Faiers, 33, on ‘TOWIE’ before he quit the show after they split.
Joey has also dated ‘The Hills’ regular Stephanie Pratt, 38, with his most recent romance with his ‘Dancing on Ice’ skating partner Vanessa Bauer, 28, in 2023.
A day after Vanessa confirmed that they were dating, MailOnline confirmed that they had gone their separate ways.

Helen Worth on track to break Coronation Street appearance record

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Worth is set to break Bill Roache’s record number of ‘Coronation Street’ appearances.
The 73-year-old actress has made 4,453 appearances as Gail Platt on the soap since 1974 and her new £250,000 contract is likely to see her eventually overtake the 92-year-old veteran’s previously “untouchable” milestone of 4,773 episodes because her beloved character appears more frequently than Ken Barlow.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “’Coronation Street’ has some of the longest-serving stars across all of TV but Bill’s record was always thought to be untouchable. Helen’s deal means she’s within touching distance. It’s her involvement in so many big storylines that gives her such an appearance rate.”
Before landing the role of Gail, Helen had appeared ‘in episodes of ‘Z-Cars’ and ‘Doctor Who’ but the only other role she has played since starting on the soap is that of Molly Silknose in the 1981 animation film ‘Peter-No-Tail’.
Helen is the show’s second longest-serving continuous cast member behind Bill – who has played Ken since the very first episode aired on 9 December 1960 – and her character holds the record for the most marriages on the show, having been married a total of six times.
In 1979, Gail Potter married Brian Tilsley (Christopher Quinten) and had Nick (Ben Price) and Sarah Louise (Tina O’Brien) with him; the pair divorced in 1987, and remarried the following year but he died in 1989 after being stabbed outside a nightclub and later went on to have son David (Jack P. Shepherd) Martin Platt (Sean Wilson).
That marriage ended in divorce in 2001 when she discovered Martin had been having an affair with nurse Rebecca Hopkins (Jill Halfpenny) and she went on to marry serial killer Richard Hillman (Brian Capron), who died when he drove the family into the canal after killing two residents on the Street in 2003.
Gail married Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale) in 2010 but he died in a boating accident later that same year whilst trying to fake his own death in an attempt to claim insurance money, and she married Michael Rodwell (Les Dennis) in 2015, only for him to suffer a fatal heart attack a year later.
Gail’s other notable storylines over the years include finding out that daughter Sarah was pregnant at the age of 13 in 1999, and dealing with letters that were supposedly being sent to her by her late husband Richard, when it turned out they were in fact being sent by her son David.

Argylle director Matthew Vaughn ‘rattled’ by terrible reviews: ‘They were vitriolic’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Argylle’ director Matthew Vaughn was hurt by the “vitriolic” reaction to his movie.
The 53-year-old filmmaker was at the helm of the star studded spy comedy – which featured the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson – and he admitted the poor reaction from critics and many fans left him disappointed and “rattled”.
He told Empire magazine: “My guard came down on ‘Argylle’. We had done test screenings that had gone fantastically well.
“The premiere was a really fun night, and it was like going back to the ‘Snatch’ days where there was such excitement. And I started drinking the Kool-Aid.
“It’s a fun, feel-good movie, or I thought it was a fun, feel-good movie. We didn’t make ‘Citizen Kane’, but f****** hell, then the reviews came out and I’m like, ‘Wait, what have I done to offend these people?’
“They were vitriolic. I’m not saying the movie’s perfect by any means, but I didn’t think it was offensive. That took me by surprise.”
Vaughn even found himself visiting cinemas to try and discover where things went wrong.
He added: “I even went round to cinemas because I thought, ‘Maybe I’ve lost the plot now.’ It did rattle me.
“I’m genuinely scratching my head about that, because you can’t ignore it. It wasn’t like [just] a few bad reviews.”
