Alexandra Burke still cries rewatching her Beyonce duet on ‘The X Factor’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alexandra Burke still gets misty-eyed when she rewatches the duet she had with Beyonce on ‘The X Factor’.
The 35-year-old singer won the fifth series of the ITV show in 2008 after performing alongside the pop icon, 42, and has revealed she can’t revisit the episode without shedding a tear.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper’s 60 Seconds column, she said: “I still cry watching it.
“The fact I only found out I was duetting with her less than 24 hours before is a joke – it’s amazing that we even go through it and that she put up with me crying!”
The ‘Bad Boys’ chart-topper – who has two children, aged two and 10 months, with her footballer fiancé Darren Randolph, 37 – said she would “never forget” seeing a picture of herself with the artist at ‘The X Factor’ producer FremantleMedia’s building, and emphasised she can’t wait to show off the photo to her first-born when they’re older.
She continued: “I’ll never forget when I had my first baby and I went into ‘The X Factor’ producer Fremantle’s building and saw a picture of me with Beyonce.
“One day, I’m going to show my baby that photo … that moment was the creme de la creme.”
Looking at the programme itself, Alexandra said she had “the fondest memories” about appearing on the show.
She gushed: “‘The X Factor’ was a wonderful experience. I never though in a million years I would win.
“I went for it at 16, got told no, then went back and auditioned at 19.
“I just want my kids to see if you work hard and believe in what you want to do in life, it’s achievable.
“I’m a firm believer in that because I’m living proof.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the singer reflected on losing her mother, Melissa Bell, in 2017 during her stint on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Alexandra admitted the death of her mother was made “even harder” due to her involvement on “such a popular show”.
She said: “It was a bittersweet moment because obviously I wanted to do well for my family and for my mum.
“In week two, I did the Paso doble and I don’t know what happened, but judge Craig Revel Horwood said, ‘I saw your mum within you’, and I was like, ‘I know, I turned into a different person.’
“But I think I’ve learned to have thicker skin, or I’ve tried to at least.”

Paul Chuckle jokingly bids to be crowned next James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Chuckle is jokingly bidding to be crowned the next James Bond.
The ‘ChuckleVision’ entertainer, 76, has hinted he thinks he could be the perfect fit to fill Daniel Craig’s shoes as 007 after the actor stopped playing the part after his role in 2021’s ‘No Time to Die’ – sparking years-long speculation about who is set to be cast in the next installment of the franchise.
Paul commented on a photo posted on X of some of the A-list contenders for the role that asked: “Who should be the next James Bond?”
He uploaded a hand-waving emoji to the post, sparking a flood of mock-ups on social media of Paul as the spy – and in other Hollywood roles.
One fa of the idea of him taking over the role edited an image of Super-Man star Holland and superimposed Paul’s face on top.
Another supporter of the idea of Paul as 007 told him on X: “Got to be you”, while another said they hoped Paul would adapt his ‘ChuckleVision’ catchphrase into: “To me, to Q” for the next Bond movie.
Stars in the running to play the spy are said to include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cillian Murphy and Tom Holland.
Paul recently told how he tried to contact the ghost of his late brother Barry, who died in 2018 aged 73 after being diagnosed with bone cancer.
He said about performing solo without his ‘ChuckleVision’ co-star sibling: “I’d never been on stage on my own before, and I swear I saw him appear there, and he put the thumbs up.
“And I went on stage, and I was fine after that.”
Along with Paul and Barry, ‘ChuckleVision’ occasionally featured their older brothers Jimmy and Brian Elliott – professionally known as the Patton Brothers.
It ran for 292 episodes over 22 years, from 1987 to 2009, and in January 2018 was voted one of the greatest children’s TV shows of all time by a Radio Times panel of experts.

Helen Hunt is thrilled by the ongoing appeal of Twister

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Hunt is delighted that ‘Twister’ has stood the test of time.
The 61-year-old star played tornado-obsessed Jo Harding in the 1996 disaster film and is happy with the renewed attention resulting from the upcoming sequel ‘Twisters’ although is saddened that late co-stars Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman are not around to see it.
Helen told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s fun (to see ‘Twister having a moment). I wish… There’s two key actors who aren’t with us anymore who did it with me, so I wish they were here, and there was some kind of all-get-together version of it.
“Some people will say, ‘Did you at the time…?’ And the answer is almost always ‘No’. You don’t know that a movie’s going to be a success. But with this movie, I knew it was either going to be a big success or a big failure because this wasn’t some little art movie.
“So, the fact that it holds up is amazing. I’ve been in big movies, and you look back, and you have to cringe a little bit because technology’s come so far. But I don’t know that it’s come further than what Jan (de Bont) did with this movie.”
De Bont has no involvement in the sequel but thinks that it will lead to newer audiences watching his original “many times”.
The 80-year-old director said: “That would be great. That’s all I can say. And I hope they look at it… I mean, I don’t know anything about the new movie; I wasn’t involved and haven’t seen it yet.
“But if (people have) not seen this version, I can guarantee you that anybody who is willing to buy it, you will have a really good time. And I’ll bet you they will play it many times, too, not just one. They will play it over.”

Danny Ramirez cast opposite Joaquin Phoenix in detective movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Ramirez is to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix in a detective movie from director Todd Haynes.
The 31-year-old actor has been cast in the untitled film that has been penned by Haynes together with Phoenix and Jon Raymond.
Details regarding the plot are scarce, but the picture is said to follow two men – one of whom is played by Phoenix – who are intense lovers and leave California for Mexico.
Haynes’ regular collaborator Christine Vachon is producing alongside Pam Koffler.
Danny played the role of Lieutenant Mickey ‘Fanboy’ Garcia in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and expressed hope that he would be able to reprise the part in a third film in the action franchise.
He told Variety: “Obviously, it’d be amazing to be able to do a third film in this beautiful story. But, as we learned with the second one, it’s got to be absolutely right.
“Being cognizant of that, we’re excited at the prospect of everyone back in the air. I’m having withdrawals. And also playing Falcon (in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) at the same time. Me and the skies…”
The ‘Oh My Block’ star explained that working with stars such as Tom Cruise has helped him develop in all aspects of the film industry.
Danny said: “One of the biggest blessings of being in elite circles with the most brilliant minds in storytelling, is that you’re then endowed with all this knowledge that this small little group has, and they pass it down.
“So someone like Tom (Cruise), he is so accessible. If I have a pitch deck, I send it to him, he’s the first one to send me notes. Having that access then becomes a responsibility.
“My next step as a filmmaker is to be able to take that same knowledge that I’m learning and being able to pass it down, because experience is sometimes everything.”

Practical Magic 2 producer Denise Di Novi promises that sequel won’t ‘reinvent the wheel’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Practical Magic 2’ producer Denise Di Novi has promised that fans will be “very pleased” with the sequel.
A follow-up to the 1998 film was announced last month with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprising their roles as witches the Owens sisters and Di Novi has explained that the picture will draw heavily from the source material – Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel ‘The Book of Magic’.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “I think (fans are) going to be very pleased. We’re going to be very faithful. We’re cognizant to how important those characters and that movie are to so many people. We’re not going to reinvent the wheel.
“We’re going to draw from Alice Hoffman’s books, as the first movie did, and we’re going to be true to the chronology of how many years later it is.”
Di Novi explained how the crew will “be respectful to the characters, story, and locations” from the original picture and confirmed that the sequel will be released at some point next year.
She said: “It’s going to be in 2025, but I’m not exactly sure when. We’re just beginning the script, and Akiva Goldsman, who worked on the original and 10 million other things since then, is writing the script.”
Nicole confirmed that she and Sandra would be appearing in the sequel just days after the project was announced by Warner Bros. last month.
The 57-year-old actress told People magazine: “Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that’s that.
“There’s a lot more to tell which is why we go, ‘OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.’
“(We) found a way in.”

‘Friends making something cool’: Kevin Feige hails bond between Deadpool and Wolverine leads Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Feige thinks the bond between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will make ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ successful.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) chief has produced the long-awaited superhero blockbuster and thinks that the friendship between the two leading actors alleviated the “pressure” that comes with making such a major movie.
Asked what works well between the duo, Kevin told Variety: “It’s their friendship in real life. Sequels and big-budget franchise films have a lot of pressure and money and expectations.
“They work best when most of that subsides to the background and it’s just a bunch of friends making something cool.”
‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ was filmed in locations that left the cast exposed to the paparazzi but Feige felt it was a sacrifice worth making for the sake of the flick.
The 51-year-old producer said: “That was very important to us. We didn’t want this to be a green screen box for all of the locations. We want it to be out in the real world, and that always comes with potential tradeoffs.
“We were in a lot of secure locations and places that were far away from prying eyes – with the exception of drones. It was a new experience for me to have paparazzi drones flying over set.”
Kevin added: “Sometimes things look cool in a behind-the-scenes photo, but most often, they don’t look great. I think people are savvy enough over the years to know that’s not what it will look like in the movie.
“That being said, Wolverine in that yellow outfit looks cool from any angle, drone or shot through the trees.”

Ralph Macchio used to getting his ‘a** kicked’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ralph Macchio is used to getting his “a** kicked”.
‘The Karate Kid’ star, 62, was propelled to global stardom thanks to his role in the 1980s fight film, and has reprised his role as martial arts fighter Daniel LaRusso for ‘Cobra Kai’ – Netflix’s hit spin-off series from the franchise.
As it gets set to return to the streamer for its sixth and final series, Ralph told The Sun: “Back in the Eighties almost every scene involved Daniel getting his a** kicked, so I’m used to it by now.
“I’m always willing to take the hit. But it hurts, especially at my age, and it’s a little harder to do now than it used to be. I try to get through it with a lot of stretching.”
The 1984 ‘Karate Kid’ hit and its two sequels told the story of Daniel and other US teens who used martial arts to stand up to bullies, with fans
inspired by the relationship between the teen and his fight mentor Mr Miyagi, played by the late Pat Morita.
Ralph added about its legacy: “The movie is so often thought of as pop culture – crane kicks, waxing on – but it also has all these other deeper elements to it.”
‘Cobra Kai’ sees Daniel and his old enemy Johnny Lawrence as karate mentors teaching the art to a new generation of young students.
Its upcoming series, out on 18 July, sees Daniel unearthing disturbing details about his long-dead teacher Mr Miyagi.
Ralph added: “These clues to a past that don’t line up with the perfect mentor now add double meaning for Daniel.
“The deeper he digs, the more he goes on a downward spiral.
“Now he’s got to carry the burden of upholding that legacy. It’s a great story and it takes Daniel down this path that he has to come back from.”

Corrie bosses confirm Gail Platt’s fate as show gears up for her exit

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’ bosses have confirmed Gail Platt won’t be killed off when she leaves the programme.
The fan-favourite character – who is played by 73-year-old actress Helen Worth – will be making her exit from the ITV soap later this year after having been a mainstay on the show since her 1974 debut, and show chiefs have now revealed Gail will be given a “happy ending” when she leaves Weatherfield.
According to the Daily Star’s Hot TV column, executive producer Iain MacLeod said: “Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right.
“Gail’s exit is a brilliant story. I thought, ‘What do the viewers want to see?’
“Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and she disastrous marriages. So, we though what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that what we’re doing.”
The soap boss said Helen – who is due to start filming her final scenes in the coming weeks – had given the exit storyline her seal of approval.
He continued: “Helen loves the storyline.
“Recently, she described it by saying, ‘It’s the perfect ending for Gail’, so I can sleep soundly at night.
“You don’t want to inflict an ending on someone after 50 years that they’re not happy with.”
Iain teased the character’s departure from Weatherfield will send a major shockwave through her family, including daughter Sarah (played by Tina O’Brien) and son David (portrayed by Jack P. Sherperd).
He explained: “Gail’s happy ending will be part of loads of other drama for the rest of the Platt family.
“It will be a catalyst for some explosive drama with betrayals and twists. Her departure will leave something in its wake.”
Last month, Helen announced she would be leaving the cobbles before the end of 2024, with soap bosses revealing Gail would “bid farewell to Weatherfield in a major storyline for the Platt family”.
In a statement, she said: “I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.
“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

Alan Carr forced to face childhood trauma after old bullies come to his book signing

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr was forced to face his childhood bullies after they turned up to one of his book signings.
The ‘Chatty Man’ host, 48, revealed he had confront his difficult past after a group of his former tormentors arrived at one of his events asking if he could sign their copy of his 2016 book ‘Alanatomy: My Autobiography’.
According to The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column, he said: “When I did my autobiography, I did a signing in a local store. A couple of bullies were there and asked if I could sign their book.
“I don’t think the bullies realised they had an effect on me. They were like, ‘Oh, remember me?’, and I’m like, ‘Yes, how do you spell t***?’”
Alan is currently gearing up to the release of the second season of his show ‘Changing Ends’, which details his younger years growing up as the gay son of a Northampton Town football manager, Graham Carr, in the 1980’s.
Although his father was there at the time, the ‘Interior Design Masters’ presenter revealed his dad still asks him what will happen in the next instalment of the programme.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he said: “My dad loves it. He says, ‘Alan, what’s happening in series two?’ I say, ‘Dad, it’s your life. You’ve been there the first time round.’
“He wants spoilers in his own life. My dad is the biggest fan.”
The TV star also admitted he teased his mother Christine Carr that a man might have to play her in the show because she has “very broad shoulders”.
Despite the jeering, Christine arranged a meal for her and Graham to meet actors Nancy Sullivan and Shaun Dooley, who portray them in the ITV sitcom.
Alan said: “My mum was worried, and I was teasing her saying, ‘Mum, you’ve got very broad shoulders. A man might have to play you.’
“I was winding her up and saying all these people, ‘Chuck Norris, Hulk Hogan,’ but we had a lovely meal and she met Nancy, who plays her. I told her, ‘It’s not a hatchet job. It’s a lovely script.’”
The second season of ‘Changing Ends’ starts on ITV1 with a double bill on 20 July.

M. Night Shyamalan considers himself lucky to still be directing

OHMYGOSSIP — M. Night Shyamalan is amazed by the longevity of his directing career.
The 53-year-old filmmaker’s latest psychological thriller ‘Trap’ is due to be released next month and he is grateful to still be behind the camera more than three decades on from his debut picture ‘Praying with Anger’.
Shyamalan told Empire magazine: “Well, to be still doing this after 30 years is so exciting. They are original movies, but they are also from the same author. This is part of a longer conversation that pre-existed this and will continue after this. It’s so rare, to have this relationship with the audience.”
The ‘Sixth Sense’ filmmaker added: “You know, I’ve had number-one movies in four separate decades now. Which is absolutely insane, what I just said to you.”
Despite his success, Shyamalan takes nothing for granted when it comes to directing.
He said: “If ‘Trap’ was my last movie, I’d be so happy about that. It’s already beyond anybody’s wildest dreams?”
‘Trap’ is set a pop concert where police are attempting to snare a serial killer and Shyamalan explained that Josh Hartnett was the perfect actor to play the killer known as ‘The Butcher’.
The director said: “We had a generation of actors that were just stars.
“Josh Hartnett might be one of the rarest people because he is that kind of superstar. Honestly, I can tell you that no-one could have done the part better. No-one. Out of seven billion people.”
A trailer for the film proved popular with fans when it was released earlier this year and Shyamalan knows that a successful movie begins long before it comes out in the cinema.
He said: “The response (to the trailer) was so amazing.
“The story already starts months before you come into the movie theatre. As a storyteller, I have to be part of that. I was very careful.”

Skepta to be the subject of new documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Skepta will be the subject of a new documentary.
H.wood Group – the hospitality company co-founded by John Terzian and Brian Toll – has branched out into multimedia production and a “stirring documentary” about the British grime rapper is one of their big new projects.
The film will be co-directed by BAFTA nominee Hector Dockrill and produced by Terzian, Toll and Jeremy Allen for H.Wood Media, along with Dwight Okechukwu of 1PLUS1 Production.
Terzian said: “H.wood media is about telling the stories behind the personalities who shape culture and Skepta is undeniably the perfect subject for us.
“His story is one of modern identity, the immigrant experience of ‘growing up in a place that is not your home,’ mental health and finding one’s true self. His emotional and inspiring journey will resonate with audiences around the world, and we are honoured he entrusted us to tell his story and work with us on future storytelling.”
Okechuku said: “I am thrilled and excited about our new partnership with powerhouse h.wood media, based in Los Angeles. As we embark on this collaborative journey, I am truly excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead. I find Jeremy, John and Brian very inspiring and supportive. It’s a great pleasure to be working with partners that move so efficiently.”
Earlier this year, Skepta released his first short film, ‘Tribal Mark’, which he co-directed with Okechukwu and he revealed plans to expand it into a franchise.
He told Variety: “I hope that the next thing is the feature film. I want to do the first one, and then I want to step back so I can let another Black actor come and do it. We would love to have a fast forward of ‘Tribal Mark’ that goes into the future of his life, and it’s Denzel Washington. I’m shouting out to Denzel.”

Daisy Edgar-Jones addicted to stunts

OHMYGOSSIP — Daisy Edgar-Jones is addicted to stunts.
The 26-year-old actress – who shot to fame in ‘Normal People’ – had to perform a number of stunts in her latest blockbuster ‘Twisters’ and admitted she can’t wait to do more in future projects.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “It was so stunt heavy and I’d never done really proper stunts, so I was so curious to see how they were going to achieve a lot of the action sequences but I’m a bit addicted now, I’ve got the bug. It was so much fun. I mean we had a phenomenal stunt department who really just helped to immerse us in it, also keep us safe. Most of the stunts were sort of being battered by wind, rain and debris so it was definitely an interesting filming experience.”
Bill Paxton starred in the original ‘Twister’ movie with Helen Hunt in 1996 and his son James Paxton has a cameo in the new film, to pay tribute to his late father who passed away in 2017.
He said: “I just couldn’t help but think about Dad and what he would say, what he would think. He wanted to be a part of a sequel and he saw how special this franchise is and can be just in terms of making something eventful for people to go see in the theatres — something topical and important as well but also fun, a real return to classic blockbusters.
““I thought about it and I wanted to do something that was just representative of Dad’s spirit and be a conduit for that because I just want to honour him and the fans. This one is for him; I’ve been acting for 10 years professionally and I’ve a lead role in a western coming out later this year, but this one was for him.”

Gavin and Stacey star not approached about final episode

OHMYGOSSIP — The actor who plays ‘Neil the Baby’ in ‘Gavin and Stacey’ admitted he has not been approached about the upcoming Christmas special.
Oscar Hartland, 15, has portrayed Neil – the son of James Corden’s Smithy and Ruth Jones’ Nessa – since he was a baby, with his last appearance in the 2019 Christmas special and Oscar admitted he is upset because he has not heard anything about the upcoming final episode.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I’m disappointed. I was hoping to get the call. Neil must feature in the final episode because he’s Smithy and Nessa’s son, they can’t write him out. Neil would be 15, the same age as me.
“I loved working on the show although I obviously can’t remember my first spell as baby Neil because I was so young.
“But I had a great time working again when I was 10, especially as I had to have a month off school. All my scenes were with Ruth and she was brilliant with me, we got on really well.
“She was my on-screen mum and my off-screen mum too. She really looked after me.”
Speaking about why he thinks he was chosen for the role, Oscar added: “I was quite chubby then so I suppose I fitted the bill, Smithy and Nessa would have to have a chubby son.
“I think that’s why I got the part when I was a baby, I was chubby then too.”
Earlier this year, co-creators Corden and Jones revealed that they had written the final ever episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey’, which will air on the BBC on Christmas Day (25.12.24)

Jamie Borthwick for Strictly Come Dancing?

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Borthwick has signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 30-year-old actor – who has played Jay Brown on ‘EastEnders’ for the past 18 years – wowed ‘Strictly’ bosses so much during last year’s Christmas special that they signed him up for the main show.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Although an ‘EastEnders’ actor is on ‘Strictly’ every year, this is the first time a performer on the festive special has gone directly into the competition.
“Producers and viewers were blown away by Jamie’s dancing.
“It’s not clear yet whether he will take a break from the soap or if he’ll juggle dance rehearsals with doing scenes for the soap.”
It was previously claimed that Danny Cipriani is also being lined up for the new series of ‘Strictly’, after he impressed producers when he danced with Jowita Przystal on the Christmas special.
A source told TV Biz: “Danny proved he had the moves in the one-off special and ‘Strictly’ would love to have him back.
“It was an experience he enjoyed and Danny’s family and friends have been pushing him to say yes.
“Danny’s got ‘Bear Hunt’ on Netflix out next year so he’s free and able to take part. He’s coming back to the UK for a face-to-face meeting.”
It was also recently reported ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ host Martin Roberts has been offered a deal to take part.
A source told The Daily Star newspaper: “Martin is just waiting to sign his contract. It’ll be a dream come true for him – and a delight for viewers.”
And, Martin hinted at the news at the recent TRIC awards.
He told the newspaper: “I’m like a Ninja Mutant Hero Turtle – I just eat pizzas. Domino’s Mighty Meat. I’m the stomach of Domino’s, not the face of it.
“I should worry about what I eat because I had a health scare. I need to look after myself better.
“And certainly if I get this TV show later in the year. I’ll have to get super fit.”
A BBC spokesperson refused to confirm any casting reports.
They simply said: “We don’t comment on speculation.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May dissolve production company

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are dissolving their production company.
The trio have worked together for 21 years but after wrapping up filming on their ‘Grand Tour’ series, they have all signed off on the dissolution of their company W. Chump and Sons.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the company has “filed three documents with Companies House – declaring solvency, appointing a voluntary liquidator and making a ‘special resolution to wind up'”.
This would indicate that their TV partnership is over for now.
Meanwhile, James previously admitted he was surprised by their longevity in the business.
He said on ‘The Today Podcast’: “We’ve done it for nearly 22 years – a lot longer than we thought we would.
“I thought, when I started doing it in 2003 or 2004, that this was a bit of a laugh. Maybe it’ll last a few years. And, here we are, grey and wizened and sagging. And we’ve only just stopped doing it. It’s quite remarkable.
“You have to be grateful for the opportunity and thankful that it happened, and accept … you know, I don’t want to be the person in the pub who used to be on the telly.”
James subsequently admitted that he’s unlikely to reunite with Jeremy and Richard to make another motoring show.
Asked about the possibility, he replied: “We’re not going to make another series together about cars, no.
“Well, hang on. You should never say no, should you? I think it is pretty unlikely.”
