Prince Harry documentary coming to ITV

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV will broadcast a documentary about Prince Harry this December.
The 32-year-old royal will be the subject of a one-off TV feature, which will follow the flame-haired royal’s “unforgettable” journey back to Lesotho in Africa where he started the charity Sentebale in 2006.
According to the press release, viewers “will bear witness as the Prince travels through the beautiful and challenging scenery to remote locations with his deeply personal aim of discovering the stories that he wants to tell to the world”.
Head of Factual Entertainment at ITV, Sue Murphy said: “It’s fascinating to observe Prince Harry from boy to man, to see him following in his mother’s humanitarian footsteps and to witness his undeniable commitment and passion for his work in Africa.”
Royal fans will then witness the moment Harry is reacquainted with Mutsu, a teenager he met during his first visit trip the country in South Africa in 2004.
The pair, who have kept in touch, last met in June when The Basotho Youth Choir performed at the Sentebale charity concert at Kensington Palace.
Mutsu traveled to the UK with a choir of five other boys and six girls, all helped by Harry’s Sentebale charity, to perform in a special fundraising concert, which will be headlined by Coldplay.
Harry founded Sentebale along with Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso, to help children affected by HIV and AIDS.
Meanwhile, one of the focuses of the film, will be showing how Harry developed “such an understanding of their problems, many of whom have been victims of the HIV and AIDS epidemic”.
Big Earth Productions’ Russ Malkin added: “It was compelling to have access to Harry when he was clearly so relaxed and candid about his commitment to his work in Africa.”
An interview with the prince and ITV’s Tom Bradby will also be shown, during in which they talk about Harry’s decision to start Sentebale and what he hopes to achieve with the charity in the future.
Harry’s documentary will air on ITV on Monday December 19 at 9.00pm.

Prince Harry promote Invictus Games

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry recorded a special message about the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto.
The 32-year-old royal appeared on large screens at BMO Field before kickoff at the 104th Grey Cup final on Sunday (27.11.16).
In the clip, he said: “Hello Canada! I know you are all eagerly awaiting the kickoff of the 104th Grey Cup, but I just wanted to steal a moment of your time.”
The flame-haired hunk also used the moment to remind people to pay tribute to soldiers and their loved ones who have fought for their country.
He continued: “I cannot think of a better way to mark 2017 than by paying tribute to the soldiers and their families who have served their country so bravely.
“I hope you all will get behind the Canadian team and join us next September.
“I guarantee you’ll be entertained, moved and inspired by the very best of the human spirit.”
Harry’s Invictus Games will take place in Toronto, Canada from September 23 – 30, 2017.
The British royal will bring his sporting contest for injured service personnel and will feature up to 550 members of the armed forces from 17 countries, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mike Burns, CEO of the Canadian event, said: “It’s where a lot of the competitors were engaged in combat or peacekeeping missions.
“We’re not just putting on a traditional sports competition, it’s meaningful therapy.
“It starts when they get selection by their countries to compete.
“I’ve heard on more than one occasion ‘these games have saved my life’.
“It seemed more needed to be done…there’s no ticker tape parade for those who’ve come back from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Speaking about Harry, who has previously held the games in London and Miami, he said: “He’ll be there a few days earlier, he’ll want to see the venue and preparations and will attend from the opening to closing ceremonies.”

Prince Harry stayed on unknown island after ship broke down

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry was forced to spend a night on a mystery island in the Caribbean after the ship he is living on broke down.
The 32-year-old royal had to travel in a rib to the unknown location where he stayed on Sunday night (27.11.16) before returning to Royal Fleet Auxiliary boat Wave Knight in the early hours of Monday morning (28.11.16).
However, despite the technical glitch, Harry made his first engagement in Grenada on time.
A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said: “Prince Harry and the tour party remained on Wave Knight until midday.
“The ship was still not able to leave St Vincent so the party travelled by rib to a nearby island where they arrived after 1pm for lunch.
“Wave Knight was not able to sail until early evening. As a night transfer was not possible, Prince Harry stayed in accommodation on the island and returned to Wave Knight early this morning (28.11.16).
The RFA support for the tour continues to be excellent and we are hugely grateful for all the crew’s work yesterday.”
Other than being stranded, Harry is said to be enjoying his time on board the Royal Navy boat and has loved eating with the crew.
A source recently said: “He is really liking life on board, he took to it immediately and he is enjoying getting to know the crew and talking to everyone he meets. It is a reminder of his days as a serving officer in the Armed Forces.
“He is eating his meals with the team and the officers on the ship, in the mess with the other sailors.
“It is very traditional fare, a standard English breakfast and good, no frills food for other meals when he is on board.
“The Prince does not get any special treatment and nor would he ever want any from the crew.
He has, though, been given the captain’s cabin, in line with standard protocol when the ship hosts a member of the Royal family or a senior naval figure, and he is incredibly grateful for that.”

Duke of Westminster's memorial service

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a memorial service for the late Duke of Westminster on Monday (28.11.16).
The royal couple joined Lady Edwina Snow, the duke’s daughter, Prince Charles and 1,400 mourners at the memorial service at Chester Cathedral in northwest England.
Edwina led tributes to her late father – who died on August 9, from a heart attack – by reading out a poem, which was titled ‘A letter to my father’, and was full of motivational advice that her dad, Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor had given her over the years.
She read: “You taught me so much. Fight for what you believe in. Don’t ever give up.
“If you are knocked down, dust yourself off … and get back on your feet.”
Prince William, 34, also did a reading of the Garter Prayer from the Order of the Grater and was joined by Lady Natalia – the duke’s widow, who is also his godmother – and other guests including Princess Eugenie, the Duke of Kent and Duchess of Cornwall.
The 64-year-old royal sadly passed away after being rushed to Royal Preston Hospital after having the heart attack at his Abbeystead Estate in Lancashire, Northwest England.
A touching tribute on the Grosvenor website describes Gerald as a “down-to-earth guy” who regularly indulged in a Diet Coke and smoking and was a workaholic.
The message reads: “He was a passionate country man, committed soldier, an excellent shot, a true entrepreneur and, importantly, he went out of his way to be courteous and humorous with all people, regardless of status or wealth.
“Distinctly down-to-earth, the Duke of Westminster was rarely seen without a Diet Coke and a cigarette (later electric).
“Not much of a sleeper, one might expect emails from him at any hour of the night and an average week would see him up and down from home in Chester to London and all over the world to visit soldiers, businesses, charities and rural estates while representing and promoting numerous organisations.”
The father-of-four was the sixth duke and his son Hugh, 25, will inherit his father’s entire estate and take his seat in Eaton Hall in Cheshire.

Prince Charles wants solar panels on Buckingham Palace

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles reportedly wants solar panels to be fitted at Buckingham Palace. The royal residence is to undergo a refurbishment costing £369 million and The Daily Express reports that the Prince of Wales is keen for the ancient property to be made environmentally friendly.

The 68-year-old royal, who is a huge environmental campaigner, is believed to have played a major part in ensuring the palace will have energy efficient features like his own homes, Clarence House and Highgrove.

It comes following the news that Queen Elizabeth has been urged to foot the bill for the renovations. A petition of more than 100,000 people was signed demanding the 90-year-old monarch pay for the repairs, which will take 10 years to complete. The campaign called 38 Degrees is headed up by Mark Johnson, who feels more money should be spent on education and health care rather than the upkeep of the royal residence in London.

He said: “There is a national housing crisis, the NHS is in crisis, austerity is forcing cuts in many frontline services. Now the Royals expect us to dig deeper to refurbish Buckingham Palace.”

Several MPs have also had their say on whether public money should be spent on the project. Labour shadow business secretary, Clive Lewis said: “I think the Queen could contribute quite a bit towards that – she’s one of the wealthiest people in the country. Why not?”

Meanwhile, Royal finances expert David McLure has said he feels Elizabeth should dig into the funds she receives from the Duchy of Lancaster’s Estate.
As the Sovereign, she is expected to rake in £17.8 million next April. He said: “No-one is saying there isn’t an enormous backlog of palace repairs.
“But given the pressure on the public purse at the moment I would have thought they could do it bit by bit out of the existing grant they receive.
“The other option is that The Queen could dip into the money she receives from the Duchy of Lancaster and contribute a few million pounds.
“Yes it’s not a private residence, but as a gesture she could do that.”

Prince William supports Prince Harry’s relationship

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William has shown his support for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship. The 34-year-old royal fully respects his younger sibling asking for privacy because he feels hasn’t been able to protect the ‘Suits’ star, who he has been dating for six months, from the online trolls she has faced since the couple’s romance was made public.

A spokesperson told The Telegraph newspaper: “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”

A source also told the publication that Harry, 32, would have consulted William and the rest of the royal family before releasing his statement on privacy and the intrusion of press.

The insider said: “They don’t issue statements like that without talking to each other, and they talked about the Meghan Markle statement extensively in advance of it being put out.

“The Duke was as alarmed as anyone about what was happening with Meghan.”

It comes after reports that William was “deeply unhappy” with his brother’s statement.

Harry’s statement published via Kensington Palace read: “His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public … the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”

Prince Harry’s ship breaks down delaying Caribbean tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry was left stranded after the Royal Fleet Auxiliary boat he is living on broke down. The 32-year-old royal is staying on the vessel during his two-week stay in the Caribbean, however, his trip came to a halt on Saturday (26.11.16) when RFA Wave Knight failed to start.

However, It’s said the rest of the tour will not be affected by the “technical” glitch and they are hoping to resume their trip to the island of Grenada so Harry can continue his royal engagements on behalf of Queen Elizabeth.

A spokesman for Kensington Palace said: “Today, day eight of the tour, was a designated travel day. The journey from St Vincent to Grenada was due to take six hours and the tour party planned to stop along the way for lunch.

‘Due to a technical problem, RFA Wave Knight was unable to leave St Vincent as planned. Prince Harry and the tour party remain in the country and went to a nearby island for a private afternoon.

“Contingency plans are in place and there is no current expectation the second half of the tour will be impacted by the technical problem.” According to the Daily Mail, a Royal Navy spokesman added: “RFA Wave Knight experienced a minor technical issue. This has not caused delay to the royal tour, or affected the operational commitments of the ship.”

Prince Harry forced to salute Fidel Castro

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry was forced into saluting Fidel Castro.
The 32-year-old royal, awkwardly and out of respect, marked a minute’s silence in memory of the late dictator – who died at the age of 90 – at a private reception held by the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grandaines, Ralph Gonsalves on Saturday (26.11.16).
Harry stood in silence as the host of the lavish event, Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, penned a heartfelt tribute to the former Cuban leader.
While he graciously bowed his head for Castro in the Carribean, back home in England, Conservative MP Alec Shelbrooke said that it should have been made clear that it was not “fair” that Harry was made to observe the silence for the “murderous” politician, who governed the Republic of Cuba for 47 years as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976.
He said: “Castro was a murderous dictator. He is dead, and good riddance.
“This endless stream of people excusing him, especially Labour MPs like Jeremy Corbyn, is ridiculous.
“It is very unfair to put pressure on members of the royal family to take part in this kind of tribute.”
And fellow Conservative, Michael Fabricant added to the Daily Mail newspaper: “I am no fan of Fidel Castro, who was more of a tyrant than an enlightened leader. But I am a fan of Prince Harry. It must have been an awkward moment for him but hey, what else could he do?”
Fidel’s brother Raul Castro announced the news of the dictator’s death.
In a statement, he said: “I say to the people of Cuba, with profound pain I come here to inform our people, our friends of America and the world, that today, 25 November, 2016, at 10:29 pm, died the chief commander of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.”

Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Margaret Rhodes dead at 91

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth’s cousin and best friend, Margaret Rhodes, has died. The 91-year-old former lady-in-waiting to the Queen Mother passed away on Friday (25.11.16) after a short illness and Buckingham Palace says the monarch will not be commenting because it is a “private matter”.

A source told the Sunday Express: “The Queen will be devastated to have lost her best friend. She grew up with Mrs Rhodes and they had so much shared history. They remained close throughout the Queen’s reign and Her Majesty continued to be a regular visitor at Mrs Rhodes’s Windsor home until very recently.

“One of the disadvantages of the Queen having such a long life is that she has had to say goodbye to so many dear friends and relatives. It is such a sad loss for Her Majesty, Mrs Rhodes’s family and everyone in the royal household. She was an extraordinary woman.”

Margaret was the youngest daughter of Sidney Elphinstone, the 16th Lord Elphinstone and his wife Lady Mary Bowes-Lyon, whose sister was the Queen Mother.

Mrs Rhodes was one of Queen Elizabeth’s bridesmaids when she tied the knot with Prince Philip in 1947 and also attended her coronation in 1953.
Speaking about the latter event, she said in 2012: “We had only just recovered from six or seven years of deprivation and blackouts and rationing – it was like the sun suddenly coming out behind a lot of very dark clouds and I think everybody felt that with a new young Queen, a whole new era was opening up. It was somehow exciting.”

Mrs Rhodes’ husband Denys died in 1981. She is survived by her four children; two daughters, Victoria and Annabel, and two sons Simon and Michael.

Duchess Camilla presents Meritorious Service Medals

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Camilla presented a Meritorious Service Medal to a solider in Aldershot, Hampshire on Thursday (24.11.16). The 69-year-old royal – who is married to Prince Charles – was a VIP guest at the Normandy Barracks and as well as handing out the decoration – which is a silver coin for distinguished service, or for gallantry – to Warrant Officer Richard Brown, the Duchess of Cornwall laid a posy of flowers on the 4 Rifles Memorial Wall, which contains the names of those killed on the frontline in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Camilla was also tasked with presenting five medals for long service to servicemen and spread Christmas cheer in her speech to the soldiers and their families.
Speaking at the event, she said: “What a pleasure it has been to come to these new barracks, everyone seems to be very settled here.

“The partners of those serving abroad are doing a job of supporting each other.”

Earlier in the day, Camilla reopened a children’s cancer ward an hour up the road in Southampton.

The 69-year-old royal – who is married to Prince Charles – visited the Piam Brown unit at Southampton University Hospital, which has undergone a £1.7 million renovation.

Prince Charles on 'appalling suffering' of Christians in Syria

OHMYGOSSIP — The Prince of Wales has called for an end to the “appalling suffering” of Christians in Syria.
The 68-year-old royal attended the consecration of the Syrian Orthodox Church in west London where he gave a speech.
He said: “It is surely deeply encouraging, at a time when the members of the Syriac Orthodox Church in their homelands of Syria and Iraq are undergoing such desperate trials and such appalling suffering, that in Britain the Syriac Church is able to expand and gain in strength.”
Prince Charles, who was joined at the ceremony by Archbishop H.E. Mor Athanasius Toma Dawod, added: “May the congregation of this Cathedral, and all the members of the Syriac Orthodox Church, wherever they may be, be blessed with the kind of courage and faith that can ultimately transcend the unbearable misery and anguish that have been so cruelly inflicted upon you, your loved ones and your brethren.”
Charles – who is married to Duchess Camilla – has been vocal about the threat to the Orthodox Christian Coptic church in the Middle East region in recent years.
He has also met with Christian Syrians and Iraqis who have been forced to flee their homes because of the rise of Islamic State.
The Grand Imam, Professor Dr Ahmad Al-Tayyeb and the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby have previously held separate bilateral talks.
A formal relationship between the offices of the two religious leaders was officially established in 2002 in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in a bid to encourage links between the two faiths.

Prince Charles' restaurant recruiting new staff

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles’ restaurant in Scotland has been oversubscribed with bookings.
The 68-year-old royal opened the Rothesay Rooms in Ballater in Aberdeenshire, Scotland – which was hit with flash floods last December when the River Dee burst its banks – last month and Robert Lovie, who is heading up the project, says they are having to increase staff numbers as a result of its popularity.
He told the EveningExpress: “The amount of bookings we have taken for tables at The Rothesay Rooms since we announced the opening date last week have proven that the restaurant will be a welcome amenity for the local community in Ballater.
While we have already employed several local people to work in both the restaurant and the Highgrove Shop, we are still recruiting and would welcome applicants from anyone that has an interest in food and hospitality.”
The building, situated on Netherly Place, used to be a Co-op supermarket and has transformed the area thanks to the princes’ Ballater Flood Appeal, which has so far raised £160,000 since it launched at the beginning of the year.
Asked how the idea came about, the Prince of Wales said he got the idea from local butcher Barry Florence, who said to him, “why don’t you put a Highgrove Shop in Ballater?”
Charles previously explained: “That is what really started this whole idea. It was entirely due to my going into Sheridan’s butchers to see how they were getting on.
“There has been a lot of effort in the last six months or so since the disastrous floods that did so much damage to poor old Ballater.”
The new kitchen will open its doors to the public on Friday (25.11.16).
According to Guy Fenton, who will be the head chef initially, Charles wanted the project to be about “sustainability” and using locally-sourced produce.

Duchess Camilla reopens children's cancer ward

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Camilla reopened a children’s cancer ward in Southampton on Thursday (24.11.16).
The 69-year-old royal – who is married to Prince Charles – visited the Piam Brown unit at Southampton University Hospital in Hampshire in south England, which has undergone a £1.7 million renovation.
Speaking at the opening event, she said: “I think this ward will make a huge difference and I am very proud to be here today.”
The Duchess of Cornwall was invited by Mr Curbitt and his wife Onnalee, who lead the fundraising campaign with the help of Southampton Hospital Charity.
Camilla’s trip to the hospital comes weeks after she visited the first dedicated children’s hospital in the United Arab Emirates, the Al Jalila Children’s Speciality Hospital in Dubai yesterday.
Camilla was blown away by the facilities.
At the time, she said: “It is a very good facility, it is brilliant.”
Sheikh Mohammed ordered the hospital to be built in December 2008 as a gift to the UAE to celebrate his daughter Sheikha Al Jalila’s first birthday, and work commenced the following year.
Camilla took a tour of the medical facility and met up with some of the kids who were receiving treatment, including Noora Fahad Fayez Mubarak, 13, who has kidney failure.
The duchess told her: “What a lovely smile you have.”

Prince Harry enjoying sleeping on Royal Navy tanker

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has been reminded of his Army days while living on a Royal Fleet Auxiliary boat.
The 32-year-old royal is staying on the vessel during his two-week stay in the Caribbean and has been getting stuck into life on board by eating with the crew members and not getting the VIP treatment despite staying in the captain’s cabin.
According to The Daily Telegraph, a source said: “He is really liking life on board, he took to it immediately and he is enjoying getting to know the crew and talking to everyone he meets. It is a reminder of his days as a serving officer in the Armed Forces.
“He is eating his meals with the team and the officers on the ship, in the mess with the other sailors.

He has, though, been given the captain’s cabin, in line with standard protocol when the ship hosts a member of the Royal family or a senior naval figure, and he is incredibly grateful for that.”
However, the only downside to living out in the Caribbean sea is that he has had no phone signal and is unlikely to have been able to keep in contact with his girlfriend of six months, Meghan Markle.

Royal family get LEGO treatment

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Duchess Catherine have been turned into LEGO for Christmas.
The royal couple and their two children, Prince George, three and 18-month-old Princess Charlotte, were honoured with their very own scene made out of the famous interlocking plastic bricks at LEGOLAND Windsor.
They are seen posing outside Buckingham Palace donning festive knitwear and are seen with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, who have hats and scarves.
Prince Harry is also there in his very own Christmas jumper.
It took a team of LEGOLAND Windsor staff 306 hours to complete the Christmas in Miniland, which will be on display during the theme park’s Christmas Bricktacular season, which kicks off on December 3.
Meanwhile, this year William and Catherine will join the Queen at Sandringham for the festive period.
And while George and Charlotte will be spoiled with gifts by friends and family, William recently said he wants to teach his children that it is the simpler things in life that are more important.
He recently said: “The materialism of the world I find tricky sometimes. I would like George and Charlotte to grow up being a little bit more simple in their approach and their outlook. I would like them to grow up with more simple aspirations.”
