Duchess Catherine sparking 'change' by talking about mental health

OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is sparking “change” by talking openly about mental health.
The 35-year-old royal – who is married to Prince William – is the Royal Patron of children’s charity Place2Be, which aims to provide emotional support to children in schools, and Catherine Roche, the chief executive of the charity, has praised her work with the organisation.
She told People magazine: “[Duchess Catherine is causing a] major shift in attitudes to mental health, with greater understanding that [it] is just as important as our physical health.
“We can see how this is becoming an issue that is being publicly discussed — which is a real sea [of] change. [Her] commitment and understanding is making a huge difference to the level of interest that this previously neglected area is now receiving.”
And the charity executive also believes the royal – who has two children Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, 21 months, with her 34-year-old husband – “has a genuine passion” for helping end the stigma surrounding mental health.
She added: “It is clear that [she] has a genuine passion for, and truly understands, the importance of providing early intervention mental health support to children and young people, and the positive impact this can have on a child’s personal development.”
On Monday (06.02.17), Duchess Catherine and Prince William will attend Place2Be’s ‘The Big Assembly’ at Mitchell Brook Primary School in London, in aid of Children’s Mental Health Week which runs from February 6 to February 12.
A statement about the event on the charity’s website reads: “This Children’s Mental Health Week (6 – 12 February), we are encouraging schools across the UK to share our call to spread a little kindness with their pupils, families and staff.
“For the first time ever, this year we will give all schools the exciting opportunity to be part of a special Assembly attended by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
“Taking place on Monday 6th February, The Big Assembly will last approximately 30 minutes, and will include: Role plays by children around the theme of kindness, a choir performance, and a presentation of a ‘Kindness Cup’ to one pupil who has demonstrated exceptional kindness in their school community.”

Princess Beatrice attends Greek socialite wedding

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Beatrice has attended the wedding of two Greek socialites.
The 28-year-old royal was spotted at the lavish ceremony which saw socialites Filippos Lemos and Marianna Goulandris tie the knot at the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sophia near Hyde Park, West London, over the weekend.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the Princess wasn’t the only royal in attendance at the event either, as she was joined by royalty from across Europe including King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and his wife Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.
Also in attendance was King Constantine II of Greece, his son Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, and Pavlos’ wife Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece.
Chelsy Davy, the ex-girlfriend of Prince Harry, was also spotted amongst the wedding guests.
For Princess Beatrice, the outing comes just months after her and her sister Princess Eugenie were branded as “superfluous to national requirements” by television personality Vanessa Feltz, after their father Prince Andrew called for them to be allowed to take on full-time royal duties and be given new accommodation at Kensington Palace.
Vanessa wrote at the time: “I do not think these two women (whose only crimes have been against fashion) should be rewarded with a prominent position on the royal Firm, be given even more palatial accommodation at Kensington Palace and granted substantial incomes for ribbon cutting and tree-planting at tax-payers’ expense.
“Frankly B and E are superfluous to national requirements.
“We are perfectly served by the Magnificent Seven: the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, [Duchess] Camilla, Wills [Prince William], Kate [Duchess Catherine] and Harry [Prince Harry].”

Queen Elizabeth 2014 portrait reissued for sapphire jubilee

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth’s 2014 portrait is to be reissued for the 65th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
The 90-year-old monarch – who became the longest reigning British monarch in 2015 – is celebrating her sapphire jubilee on Monday (06.02.17), and a portrait photograph taken three years ago by photographer David Bailey is being reissued to commemorate the record breaking milestone.
The photograph features the Queen wearing a suite of sapphire jewellery which was gifted to her by her late father King George VI as a wedding gift in 1947 when she wed Prince Philip at the age of 21.
According to The Guardian newspaper, the jewellery includes a necklace which dates back to 1850 and features 16 sapphire jewels surrounded by diamonds, as well as a pair of matching sapphire and diamond earrings.
To compliment the original pieces of jewellery, Queen Elizabeth also wears a sapphire and diamond tiara and a bracelet.
Originally, the photograph was commissioned as part of the government’s 2014 ‘Great’ campaign, which aimed to promote the UK overseas.
The 80-year-old photographer said of the Queen at the time of the commission: “I’ve always been a huge fan of the Queen. She has very kind eyes with a mischievous glint. I’ve always liked strong women, and she is a very strong woman.”
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that Queen Elizabeth wouldn’t be celebrating the anniversary as it only serves as a “reminder” of her father’s death at the age of 56.
Royal historian Robert Lacey said: “She’s naturally shy and is the opposite of showy. And, of course, the anniversaries of the accession remind her of her father’s premature death.
“There is only so many of these landmark dates that people will want to mark. I’m sure she would rather people were asking why isn’t it being celebrated rather than, ‘Oh no, not another royal anniversary.’ She always plays safe – and that is a good instinct.
“The Queen is always wary of the commercial aspects, and doesn’t want to appear ‘on the make’ – though she doesn’t mind if charities use anniversaries to raise money. She’s got a well-developed sense of not wanting to exploit these royal anniversaries.”

Prince Harry 'adamant' on bringing Meghan Markle to Pippa Middleton's wedding

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry is reportedly “adamant” on bringing Meghan Markle to Pippa Middleton’s wedding.
The 32-year-old royal has been in a relationship with the American actress for almost eight months, and reportedly wants to bring her as his “plus one” to the wedding of Pippa – whose sister Catherine is married to Harry’s brother Prince William – and her racing driver fiancé James Matthews.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “Harry and Meghan are madly in love and he no longer wants to hide that from the world.
“He is close to Pippa and has been invited to her wedding and has obviously been given a plus one.
“Harry is adamant that he wants to take Meghan with him.”
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that the royal is “truly in love” with the 35-year-old brunette beauty.
A source said: “Harry is truly in love. They’re very serious.”
And the insider also claims that despite having not been together for very long, wedding bells of their own could be on the horizon soon.
They added: “Those close to Harry and Meghan wouldn’t be surprised if there will be an engagement announcement sometime this year.”
It isn’t the first time wedding rumours have circulated about the pair either, as Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. also claimed that marriage was “on the cards”.
Thomas – who arrested last month after allegedly holding a gun to his lover’s head following a drunken argument – said: “Marriage and kids is on the cards for Meghan and Harry and I still want to go to the wedding if they’ll let me.
“Of course I want to go to London and Buckingham Palace.
“Their relationship has been going from strength to strength and this drama is the last thing I wanted to happen. I want to tell Meghan I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart.”

Prince Harry 'never found out' if he saved lives in the Army Air Corps

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry “never found out” if he saved any lives during his time in the Army Air Corps.
The 32-year-old royal spent 20 weeks between 2012 and 2013 working for the component of the British Army rescuing injured soldiers during his second tour of Afghanistan, and says he “never” knew if the people he rescued managed to recover from their injuries as he was always “radioed to do something else”.
Prince Harry spoke about his time in the army as he met with ambulance crews in London during a visit to the headquarters of the London Ambulance Service in Waterloo on Thursday (02.01.17).
He said: “You land and then hand them over and then are radioed to do something else. You never find out how that guy or girl recovered, whether they did recover or they didn’t.”
And the young Prince sympathised with the members of the ambulance service, as he compared his time in the army to their own work life.
He added: “I understand what you go through and thank God you have got each other.”
Prince Harry has been vocal about his experiences in the armed forces in the past, having served a total of 10 years and completed two tours of Afghanistan, and previously urged for people to take notice and realise the huge “debt” we owe the armed services for their work in protecting the country.
Speaking last year about the Walking With The Wounded expedition, he said: “This extraordinary expedition will raise awareness of the debt that this country owes to those it sends off to fight – only for them to return wounded and scarred, physically and emotionally.
“The debt extends beyond immediate medical care and short-term rehabilitation. These men and women have given so much. We must recognise their sacrifice, be thankful, so far as we can ever repay them for it.”

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla attend British Asian Trust dinner

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have attended a dinner for supporters of the British Asian Trust.
The 68-year-old royal and his wife, 69, stepped out onto the red carpet on Thursday (02.01.17) as they joined 450 guests at a reception in central London in support of the charity which aims to transform lives by investing in making an impact on poverty in South Asia and the UK.
The royal couple were joined by host of famous faces from the worlds of entertainment, politics, business, and sport, including actor Hugh Bonneville, DJ Naughty Boy – real name Shahid Khan – and entrepreneur Michelle Mone.
The British Asian Trust was set up in 2007 by Prince Charles, alongside Asian business leaders, to take action against widespread poverty and hardship in South Asia.
The organisation has since helped develop programmes in education, mental health, and anti-trafficking, making a difference to the lives of more than three million people in places such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India.
As the president of the organisation, Prince Charles – who is the father of Prince William, 34, and Prince Harry, 32 – gave a speech to the guests at the event, which was hosted by BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Asian Network presenter Nihal Arthanayake.
For Duchess Camilla, the charitable outing comes as part of a busy week as she was named the Royal Patron of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home on Wednesday (01.02.17).
A series of posts on Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’ official Twitter account read: “We were thrilled to welcome The Duchess of Cornwall to our Old Windsor centre today as she was announced as our new Royal Patron …
“Her Royal Highness is already part of our #Battersea family having rehomed two Jack Russell Terriers Beth and Bluebell from the Home … We look forward to forging an even closer connection with our new Royal Patron over the coming years.”

Prince Charles calls for 'innovative' packaging

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles has called for an “urgent” change to plastic packaging as he made an impassioned plea to save the environment.
The 68-year-old royal spoke of the importance of finding an “innovative” way to re-design products and encouraging people to recycle in a bid to save the world’s oceans as he attended a meeting hosted by the International Sustainability Unit (ISU) and Business in the Community.
Addressing those who were in attendance, he said: “One critical part, as I see it, of the transition towards a circular economy, particularly in relation to plastics, is that of innovation and the need to re-think the way we design products. This would entail moving from a model that encourages a buy, use, throw-away mentality, to one that facilitates re-use, recovery and regeneration.
“We do need to consider, from the very beginning, the second, third and, indeed, fourth life of the products we use in everyday life. I appreciate that this is easier to say than do, so I was particularly interested to hear the key findings from the design workshop held in various locations across London this week.
“I have always been a great believer in the ‘Seeing is believing’ idea, so I very much hope that your ‘field’ visits left you feeling inspired to create new solutions within your organisations that are supported by your senior executives, many of whom – I am very grateful to see – are around the table today. Given how critical the design phase of a product’s life is to its later environmental impact, I can hardly overstate how important I think this work is and I know that my ISU. stands ready to help continue to facilitate these conversations.”
And the Prince of Wales – who is heir to the British throne – spoke of the importance of moving towards a “circular economy”.
He explained: “It is impossible not to re-state how urgent it is, in my view, that we move towards a ‘circular economy’, particularly when considering ways to address the seemingly unending flow of plastic into our oceans. We already know the extent of the damage that this is having on marine life today, and if current trends continue, the implications for the viability of the ocean ecosystem, on which humankind relies so heavily, are stark indeed.”

Prince Harry: It shows 'strength' to talk about mental health

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry thinks it shows “strength” to open up about mental health.
The 32-year-old royal visited the headquarters of London Ambulance Service in Waterloo, south east London on Thursday (02.02.17) where he spoke of the importance of talking through these issues.
He shared: “If people in the green uniform aren’t coming forward and talking about it, people driving blue light vehicles in general aren’t talking about it, then the rest of us aren’t going to talk about it.
“You guys are literally right in the thick of it, and to be able to carry on and operate at a really high percentage and be on your game the whole time, you need to come back and just get rid of all that – it’s unnecessary baggage.
“We’re all human, we’re not machines, despite a lot of people in certain jobs having to think and behave like machines in order to get the best out of you – I accept that – but it’s not weakness, it’s strength to be able to come forward, deal with it, move on and be a better person.”
Prince Harry, his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law Duchess Catherine are long-time supporters of reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
Prince William said recently: “Mental health matters to each and every one of us. It matters just as much as our physical health. The crews I have worked with, whether RAF Search and Rescue or Air Ambulance, must take their mental health as seriously as they do their physical health or else they would not cope – and, actually, that is true for everybody at some time or another in their life. There are times when, whoever we are, it is hard to cope with challenges – and when that happens being open and honest and asking for help is life-changing.”

Meghan Markle's royal romance gets co-star's seal of approval

OHMYGOSSIP — Patrick J. Adams has given Meghan Markle’s romance with Prince Harry his seal of approval.
The 35-year-old actor – who plays Meghan’s on-screen fiancé Mike Ross in ‘Suits’ – is “super excited” for his co-star with her budding romance but hopes the “madness” of dating a royal passes soon.
Speaking to E! News, he said: “I’m super excited for her. As you can imagine, it is a massive deal, obviously, if you hadn’t noticed. I didn’t wanna get involved. I just wanted to say, ‘I love you, I support you, I hope you’re happy. You seem really happy’. And if she ever needed anybody to talk to in the madness – because it is madness, it’s madness what the world puts somebody through when they’re going through this process.
“But if there’s anyone in the world who is designed to be able to deal with it and deal with it professionally, it’s Meghan Markle. I’m just super excited for her and I hope that all of the whatever, whatever, I don’t even know what it is, but all of the madness passes at some point and they can just get down to the business of enjoying each other’s company and hopefully not have to worry about this. But I guess being in this situation, it probably goes on forever.”
It comes after the flame-haired royal was spotted holding hands with Meghan, 35, as they walked through a busy London street after a date.
An onlooker told The Sun newspaper: “They tried to keep as low-key as possible and were sitting in a small snug area of the restaurant. But it wasn’t a private area and they were happy to be seen. Gary Lineker and a whole host of the ‘Made In Chelsea’ cast were also there, but they only had eyes for each other.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry listened in on a rap masterclass in Nottingham.
The 32-year-old royal politely declined to demonstrate his rapping skills as he joined pupils taking part in the Full Effect programme’s music and kickboxing lessons at the Nottingham Academy on Wednesday (01.02.17).
When asked if he’d like to show off his skills, he quipped back: “I’m wearing a jacket for a reason.”
Of the royal’s visit, 11-year-old Prince Newton, said: “It was a great feeling to be able to rap for the prince. I don’t think many people get to fist-bump him so that was amazing. I think he thought my bars were sick – we are Gs [gangsters] for life now.”

And Seren Russell, who is a youth worker for Full Effect, knows the visit from the flame-haired royal will have “inspired” the children.
He shared: “All the hard work you do all year round, the relationships you forge, it’s brilliant to show it off and celebrate it. Harry was getting into it! The talents that these kids have, everyone gets into it. He’s showing a genuine interest which helps elevate them and inspire them.”

You are unique. Nottingham is unique and together we can achieve remarkable things.”
And the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Mohammed Saghir, was thrilled to see the Prince back in Nottingham.

Prince Charles named 'king of balloon making'

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles was dubbed the “king of balloon making” as he visited a school in Hertfordshire.
The 68-year-old royal – who is first in line to the British throne – joined pupils at Yavneh College, a Jewish school in Borehamwood, where he helped to create crowns out of balloons.
With the guidance of Rabbi Avrohom Zeidman, the Prince joined pupils in blowing the long thin balloons up. Testing his blue one against the size of his head, he expertly tied the ends together to create the crown.
Rabbi Zeidman said: “I think this is an excellent royal crown. I will definitely give this to someone saying it was made by the Prince … I think the Prince was great, after one or two more hours practice he would be king of balloon making.”
The balloon crowns will be donated to Camp Simcha, a charitable organisation which aims to “improve the quality of life of children suffering from cancer or other life threatening illnesses”.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles – who is married to the Duchess of Cornwall and has Prince William, 34, and Prince Harry, 32, with his first wife, the late Princess Diana – attended a fundraiser for the World Jewish Relief earlier this week where he warned the “horrific lessons” of World War II are in “danger of being forgotten”.
He said: “The work of World Jewish Relief allows us to rally together to do what we can to support people practically, emotionally and spiritually, particularly at a time when the horrific lessons of the last war seem to be in increasing danger of being forgotten. In reaching beyond your own community you set an example for us all of true compassion and friendship.”
At the event, the Prince of Wales also met Holocaust survivor and former Olympic champion Ben Helfgott.
He shared: “To meet Ben, and others who, like him, have endured indescribable persecution, is to be reminded of the danger of forgetting the lessons of the past.”

Queen Elizabeth making sparkling wine

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth is making her own sparkling wine.
The 90-year-old monarch’s Windsor Estate will be launching a new Chardonnay champagne called the Windsor Vineyard 2014 after the first batch sold out within days last year.
Laithwaite’s are listing the Windsor Vineyard 2014 for pre-order, with stocks expected to be delivered in the autumn.
Describing the wine on their website, the company lists it as having an aroma of “delicate toasted brioche, apricot and citrus notes” whilst the taste has been described as “fine bubbles with bright lemon, stone fruit and toasty length”.
The sparkling wine is described as a “distinguished fizz” from “the rebirth of Windsor Great Park vineyard”.
The website reads: “Highly anticipated second release of a distinguished fizz that celebrates both the phenomenal rise of English Quality Sparkling Wine and the rebirth of Windsor Great Park vineyard …
“In 2011, we discovered a 4-hectare south facing plot in Windsor Great Park, with slopes down to Great Meadow Pond. It’s an ideal location, with gentle breezes, a moderate climate, well drained soils – all the attributes for a top-class vineyard. We planted Champagne’s classic varieties and harvested our first grapes in 2013. The result: a fine fizz with delicious rich toasty length.”
Whilst Laithwaite’s CEO David Thatcher shared: “We’re delighted Windsor Great Park has proved so popular among our customers and we look forward to releasing the second vintage later this year.”
Prince Philip has reportedly got involved in the vineyard and wants to keep a close eye on what is produced from the grapes.
Julia Trustram Eve from the English Wine Producers shared: “It is great to see another home-grown success. I have not been fortunate enough to taste any myself, but I have dropped a monumental hint with the maker that I would very much like to do so.”

Duchess Catherine's Valentine vist to RAF base

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine will spend Valentine’s Day visiting an RAF base.
The 35-year-old royal – who has Prince George, three, and Princess Charlotte, 20 months, with her husband Prince William – will meet air cadets from the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing Air Training Corps, who will be taking part in a skills development camp in their school half-term.
A statement from Kensington Palace reads: “The week acts as an initial ‘camp experience’ for cadets who are in their first six months of membership. Her Royal Highness will join the cadets as they view a Tutor aircraft, and participate in a personal development training session.”
The Duchess of Cambridge will also be given the chance to pilot her own aircraft in a flight simulator.
The visit marks the Duchess’ third visit to the RAF Air Cadets since she became Royal Patron and Honorary Air Commandant of the Air Cadet Organisation after taking over from Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
Whilst Duchess Catherine and Prince William won’t be spending Valentine’s Day together, the couple will be able to spend more time together in London after it was recently revealed the 34-year-old royal is quitting his job with the East Anglian Air Ambulance this summer.
He said in a statement: “It has been a huge privilege to fly with the East Anglia Air Ambulance. Following on from my time in the military, I have had experiences in this job I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and that will add a valuable perspective to my royal work for decades to come. I would like to thank the people of East Anglia for being so supportive of my role and for letting me get on with the job when they have seen me in the community or at our region’s hospitals.
“I would especially like to thank all of my collegues at EAAA, Babcock and Cambridge Airport for their friendship and support. I have loved being part of a team of professional, talented people that save lives every day. My admiration for our country’s medical and emergency services community could not be any stronger.”

Prince Harry puts guests at ease

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry puts everyone at ease when they meet him.
The 32-year-old royal – who is dating ‘Suits’ actress Meghan Markle – knows it can be a little “daunting” coming face to face with him and so does his best to “crack jokes” to lighten the atmosphere.
Trevor Rose, who set up the Full Effect programme in Nottingham which the flame-haired royal has visited on many occasions, said: “From start to finish, Prince Harry has been very supportive of our project and he has visited us many times. When you first meet someone like him it can be a bit daunting especially for the kids but when you speak to him he cracks jokes and the kids have a lot of respect for him.
“Managing a big group of young people, there are always going to be a few issues. They may want some food or a drink or have issues at home, but Harry is so good at noticing this and gets them involved.”
And royal enthusiast James Taylor believes the Prince is showing how “friendly and approachable” he is through these informal visits.
James told the Nottingham Post newspaper: “Prince Harry in the work he does puts an emphasis on supporting projects which are aimed at young people from deprived backgrounds and helping them to learn new skills. He has really helped raise the profile of the city and people take a real pride in him coming.
“The visits are also very good for him and the image of the royal family. People see him as a friendly and approachable person who can have a joke, and people warm to him because of this. It is not the formal approach that some might expect members of the royal family to make.”

Princess Diana's necklace to be sold for $12m

OHMYGOSSIP — A necklace worn by Princess Diana is being offered for sale for $12 million.
New York auction house Guernsey are accepting offers on the necklace and earring set, which was dubbed the Swan Lake suite after the late Princess wore it to the ballet of the same name in 1997.
The couple from Ukraine who own the set – which is described as the “gift of the century” – are hopeful someone will snap up the impressive jewels, which contain no less than 178 diamonds and five pearls.
A spokesman for Guernsey’s told The Sun newspaper: “Right now they are just entertaining offers. I can’t cite prices but obviously you’re aware of what it sold for previously.
“Markets change and I think the family feel that originally they picked it up for a bit of a song.”
The jewellery set was sold in 2010 for £500,000 and the owners are reportedly asking for $12m for the two piece set.
Princess Diana – who had two sons Prince William, 34, and Prince Harry, 32, with her then-husband Prince Charles before her untimely death in August 1997 – never wore the earrings as they were still being completed when she passed away.
However, she loved the necklace so much that she asked to wear it without the earrings before returning the piece of jewellery to the Crown Jeweller so it could be completed.
A previous listing of the item at the auction house reads: “The Crown Jeweler, aware of this special occasion, was pleased to offer Princess Diana his recently completed necklace for her appearance at the ballet. From the hands of The Crown Jeweler and the Garrard craftsmen came a stunning necklace replete with five matched diamonds …
“Following the performance, Diana returned the necklace to Garrard where it could be mated with the matching earrings still in the process of being fabricated. Tragically, Diana did not have the opportunity to view the complete suite, as in August of that year, the world lost one of its most cherished beings.”
