Lily Collins hit Prince Charles with a telephone

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Collins once hit Prince Charles with a telephone.
The ‘To The Bone’ actress met the heir to the British throne and his former wife, the late Princess Diana. when she was just a child but the meeting did not go well when she smacked Charles with a toy phone he gave to her.
Speaking on Vanity Fair’s In The Limelight podcast, she said: “I met the family but when I was barely walking. There are photos of me giving Princess Diana flowers and then trying to take them back from her.
“Apparently I was told that Prince Charles gave me a phone to play with and I proceeded to try to smack him with it. My mom was like, ‘Oh my God, we’re gonna get kicked out!'”
Lily, 28, met the royals through her famous father; musician Phil Collins.
Lily is Phil’s only child from his second marriage to American Jill Tavelman and in her recent memoir ‘Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me’, Lily said she forgave him for not “being the dad I expected”.
She wrote: “I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected.
“I forgive the mistakes you made. And although it may seem like it’s too late, it’s not. There’s still so much time to move forward.
“We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past.
“I’m learning how to accept your actions and how they made me feel. I accept the sadness and anger I felt toward the things you did or didn’t do, did or didn’t give me.”

Prince Harry to meet Melania Trump

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry will meet US First Lady Melania Trump at the Invictus Games in September.
Melania will lead the US delegation of 90 athletes who will compete at the Paralympic-style event for injured military veterans in Toronto, Canada, and she has praised its success.
She said: “In just two short years, the Invictus Games have allowed thousands of injured and wounded servicemen and women from many different countries to participate in adaptive sports competitions, something that should be lauded and supported worldwide. I am honoured by the opportunity to represent our country at this year’s games.”
This will be Melania’s first solo foreign trip.
When asked if she will also be meeting Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle, Trump’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said: “Stay tuned.”
Meanwhile, Harry, 32, recently unveiled his team for the third Invictus Games.
The team is being captained by former Army Major Bernie Broad, who is replacing 2016 captain David Wiseman.
Broad – who lost both his legs while serving in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in 2009 – said: “Since being medically retired from the Armed Forces in 2014, I feel that I have taken my foot off the gas and become quite complacent.
“I have always been a keen and competitive sportsman, so I kick started my fitness regime and now regularly swim, cycle and walk.
“I am looking forward to taking part in the Invictus Games as I see this involvement as a way to re-focus me physically and mentally and to re-engage in a full, active, competitive and fulfilling life.”
And Broad admitted to being especially proud at having been made the UK captain for the upcoming event.
He shared: “The Invictus Games are empowering and inspire all of us as competitors to be the best version of ourselves. It allows us to be judged on what we can achieve, rather than what we can’t.
“To simply be selected for the UK team was an amazing achievement. To then be further selected as the UK team captain filled me with such immense pride and it is a huge privilege to be given this honour. I definitely stood taller and my chest expanded quite a bit.”

Prince Harry’s secret jam sessions with The Killers

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has been enjoying secret jam sessions with The Killers for the past 10 years.
The 32-year-old royal is a huge fan of the US band and has become so close its members that he often catches up with them after UK gigs to party into the early hours.
Speaking on the Bizarre Life podcast, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr said: “He just showed up at a show one time and we got along. I mean, it’s been 10 years I guess. There’s been a lot of long nights.
“It’s safe to say we didn’t grow up with the sort of bedazzlement of having a Royal Family or anything, so I wasn’t educated in what it means to know these people first. Maybe that’s what made things cool. It was just like, ‘Hey, man’.”
And Harry is not the only member of Britain’s Royal Family who has hung out with the band.
Ronnie added: “There have been cousins and things like that from the family and they’re all just regular dudes and nice people.”
Earlier this month, Harry partied at the US group’s British Summer Time headline show at London’s Hyde Park, and looked to be having a whale of a time despite being without his girlfriend Meghan Markle.
Harry was spotted enjoying time with pals at the event, where he guzzled beer and took selfies with friends.
The Killers wowed the crowd with their huge hits, including ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘Human’ and ‘Mr. Brightside’.

No iPads for Prince George and Princess Charlotte

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Duchess Catherine have banned their children from using iPads.
The royal couple don’t want Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two, to become reliant on technology for entertainment and want to encourage them to use their imaginations.
A source told Us Weekly: “They’re very much seen as Mummy and Daddy’s toys, not for children. As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play, and encouraging an active imagination. They’re very much a normal family.”
Catherine, 35, recently spoke of her joy at seeing her children fall in love with nature.
The royal made reference to her kids in a speech she gave to mark the reopening of Hintze Hall at the Natural History Museum in London.
During her speech, the Duchess explained: “Like many of you here tonight, I remember visiting the Natural History Museum as a child, and being inspired with a love of nature.
“And now, as a parent myself, I am experiencing the joy all over again with my own children, who adore coming here, and it is not just to see the T-Rex mind you.
“Who could fail to be inspired standing here in this wonderful hall.”
Meanwhile, William, 35, recently revealed to England women’s soccer star Casey Stoney that George does not enjoy playing physical sports.
After a meeting with the future King, Casey shared: “[William] said at the moment he’s trying to teach George that football is actually a contact sport.
“But George doesn’t really like it when he’s palming him off and getting physical.”
Despite this, Prince William is apparently determined to improve his son’s soccer skills, while he is also eager for two-year-old Princess Charlotte to develop an interest in sports.
Casey explained: “He said he’s really encouraging his kids to get involved with sport.”

Prince William reveals highs and lows of air ambulance role

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William has spoken about the highs and lows of his work as an air ambulance pilot.
The Duke of Cambridge left his position with the East Anglian Air Ambulance this week, in order to focus more on his royal duties and during his two years on the job, William has seen tragedy and joy.
In a letter he wrote for edp24.co.uk, William said: “One of the first call outs I made was to a young man who had taken his own life; it was an incredibly tough day and had a profound effect on all of us, not least in my determination now to draw attention to this issue.
“Another rescue that sticks in my mind was to a young man who was involved in a road accident. His uncle in the car with him sadly didn’t survive, and I was sure that from what we were faced with he wouldn’t either – but thanks to the skills of our medical team he is alive today.
“We were first on scene and in such circumstances, we all had to pitch in to fight to save the young man’s life. It is days like this, when you know you have made a difference, that give you the determination to keep going.”
William, 35 – who is a vocal supporter of mental health charities along with his wife Duchess Catherine and brother Prince Harry – also praised the air ambulance service for looking after its staff following stressful situations.
He said: “I have seen at first-hand how our doctors, paramedics, police, fire and emergency services teams work together with such skill and professionalism in stressful situations.
“I have also been very fortunate to work with an organisation which recognises the stress its staff deals with and puts their welfare as such a high priority.
“You need to be physically and mentally fit to do this job properly and so we are encouraged to talk through the things we have seen, to share the trauma within the team.
“I now know though that there are things that cannot be unseen and experiences that our first responders deal with on a daily basis that they will carry with them for life.”

Duchess Catherine wears Diana’s jewellery

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine wore an item of jewellery belonging to Princess Diana to finish her tour of Berlin.
The 35-year-old royal was spotted wearing a beautiful pearl bracelet when she attended a reception at Berlin’s Clärchens Ballhaus.
The bracelet was designed by Nigel Milne in 1988 and the late Princess of Wales was pictured wearing it in Hong Kong back in 1989.
London-based jeweller Milne wrote on his website: “I am delighted to see in the national press that the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear one of her late mother-in-law’s favourite pearl and diamond bracelets on the Royal Tour in Germany last week. This is of particular interest to me in that it was designed by me and featured in our 1988/1989 jewellery catalogue.
“In 1988 we decided to produce some jewellery and donate the proceeds from their sales to the charity, BIRTHRIGHT. For personal reasons Cherry and I had become supporters of this charity, Sir George Pinker, Cherry’s gynaecologist, being its President and The Princess of Wales its Patron.
“The three items that we chose for our Birthright Collection were a pair of diamond bow and pearl drop earrings, a diamond half eternity ring and a three row pearl bracelet with diamond and pearl spacers and clasp. This is the bracelet that Princess Diana wore on several occasions including at the Birthright Ball in 1989 and with her iconic Catherine Walker ‘Elvis’ dress in Hong Kong and has now been seen adorning the Duchess of Cambridge!”
Milne went on to praise Princess Diana – who died in August 1997 – for being a “wonderful inspiration” to jewellers everywhere.
He added: “This look was very typical of the style of jewellery that we were making at that time. The Princess of Wales was the most wonderful inspiration for us jewellers in that she wore her jewellery with such style and panache. The choker necklaces that she used to wear spawned a whole fashion revival for this Edwardian look and I designed many variations on the theme and we sold quantities thanks to her!”

Earl Spencer felt like he was running out of oxygen during eulogy at Princess Diana’s funeral

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana’s brother felt like he was “running out of oxygen” when he delivered the eulogy at his sister’s funeral.
Earl Charles Spencer remembers looking over her coffin to see her sons Prince William and Prince Harry sitting there and felt he couldn’t breathe with the grief he was feeling.
He told People magazine: “She’d left me as guardian. I was looking directly at William and Harry across her coffin. In the final paragraph I had run out of energy, almost out of oxygen. I had to punch each syllable out of the base of my stomach.”
Meanwhile, Charles previously described the funeral as “really harrowing”.
He said: “I was lied to and told that the Princes wanted to do it [walk behind the coffin], which of course they didn’t … It was the worst part of the day by a considerable margin, walking behind my sister’s body with two boys who were obviously massively grieving their mother. It was a sort of bizarre circumstance where we were told you just have to look straight ahead. But the feeling, the sort of absolute crashing tidal wave of grief coming at you as you went down this sort of tunnel of deep emotion, it was really harrowing actually and I still have nightmares about it now.
“It was impossible not to connect with the emotion coming from the crowd. It was so powerful. Pulsing through us, I think. And it was so bizarre, there was a sort of crunching of our procession, the horses and the carriage and our footsteps, and then the incredible crashing emotion coming in from every side. It was really horrifying.”

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla wow crowds at Sandringham Flower Show

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla thrilled the crowd as they made an appearance at Sandringham Flower Show.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall spent time chatting with the public at the horticultural event on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, east England.
The pair were greeted at the event by the Essex Police Band, who played a tune as they made their way towards the crowd who had gathered where Duchess Camilla was given a posy of flowers by seven-year-old George Wood.
After chatting with the crowds, the couple went to meet some of the exhibitors at the event and spent around two hours walking around the flower show.
Ian Linner, nursery manager of Peter Beales Roses, said: “We are always so delighted to have them come. I have been coming here for 41 years. They are used to saying hello to us. Prince Charles said we had a bright display and the smell was very nice.”
Susan Brown from Grimsby attended the event with her two dogs, Emily and Amy, and the Duchess was seen leaning down to pet them.
Ms Brown said: “Camilla asked about my little girls and whether they were related. I have never spoken to them before. They are really caring people who love animals. Prince Charles is just like his mother.”
Sheila Clark has attended the flower show every year since the 1980s, travelling from Glasgow, Scotland.
She said: “I love seeing all the flowers. I used to come here when Prince Charles came with the Queen Mother.”
Sandringham Flower Show welcomes 20,000 visitors every year.
Speaking about the event, show chairman David Reeve said: “Fortunately we got off to a very good start. People got ahead on the show ground, which was down to a lot of hard work and preparation, which left us with a little leeway.”

Prince William completest last shift with East Anglian Air Ambulance

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William has completed his last shift as an air ambulance pilot.
The Duke of Cambridge is stepping down from his position with the East Anglian Air Ambulance so he can focus more on his royal duties, after two years of helping to save people’s lives by piloting the helicopters and paramedics to and from medical emergencies.
Patrick Peal, EAAA’s chief executive, said: “William has been an integral part of the team for the past two years. He is not only a fantastic pilot, but a much loved and valued member of the crew; he will be truly missed by everyone at EAAA. As one would expect, there has been a lot of excitement surrounding William and his work with the charity. To us, he has simply been another hard-working member of the team; one of eleven highly respected pilots who help us to save hundreds of lives each year.”
Prince William announced in January that he would be stepping down from the job and said it was a “huge privilege” to work with the East Anglia Air Ambulance.
He said in a statement at the time: “It has been a huge privilege to fly with the East Anglia Air Ambulance. Following on from my time in the military, I have had experiences in this job I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and that will add a valuable perspective to my royal work for decades to come.
“I would like to thank the people of East Anglia for being so supportive of my role and for letting me get on with the job when they have seen me in the community or at our region’s hospitals. I would especially like to thank all of my colleagues at EAAA, Babcock and Cambridge Airport for their friendship and support. I have loved being part of a team of professional, talented people that save lives every day. My admiration for our country’s medical and emergency services community could not be any stronger.”

Trespassers tried to rob Diana’s grave

OHMYGOSSIP — Trespassers have attempted to rob Princess Diana’s grave four times.
The Princess of Wales’ brother Charles, Earl Spencer, has revealed the late Princess’ burial site in the family’s Althorp estate has seen four “attempted break-ins” since her untimely death.
Charles said: “We’ve had four attempted break-ins towards her body in the last 20 years and I’m very glad we’ve seen all of them off. There are some odd people out there and keeping her right here is the safest place.”
The family had first planned to bury Diana in the family tombs at a nearby church but decided it would be “impractical” because the village would be “overrun”.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today: “Originally we were going to bury Diana in the family tombs nearby but it wasn’t to be. Both because it was impractical and because it would mean the local village being overrun.”
And Charles previously revealed he chose to bury his sister at their childhood home because he “wanted to keep her safe”.
He said: “It seemed natural [to bury her at home] as I wanted to keep her safe … There was such a whipped up feeling of emotion everywhere that I was very worried about where we could safely bury her.”
Meanwhile, journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan previously revealed he thinks Diana’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry are “ensuring the legacy” of their mother is “protected”.
He shared: “Many worried the royals wouldn’t survive her death. But they have, and aside from the wondrously consistent and calming majesty of The Queen, that is mainly down to her sons … William and Harry are now ensuring her legacy is protected, remembered and nurtured, and the Monarchy isn’t allowed to slide away into overly formal irrelevance.”

Princess Diana’s brother buried her at home so he could keep her safe

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana’s brother chose to bury her at their childhood home because he “wanted to keep her safe”.
The Princess of Wales tragically died in August 1997 and her brother Charles Spencer says it was a “natural” choice to have her buried in the grounds of the Althorp estate rather than at the family tombs at a nearby church so he could protect her.
He said: “It seemed natural [to bury her at home] as I wanted to keep her safe … There was such a whipped up feeling of emotion everywhere that I was very worried about where we could safely bury her.”
And Earl Spencer knows Princess Diana would have been proud of the speech he made at her funeral as she gave him “some sort of approval” when he read it to her body not long before she was buried.
He added to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I know people will think that I am some sort of fruitcake, but I do remember hearing almost some sort of approval then and then I realised then I probably had got some of the thoughts in order.
“I don’t feel I said many pointed things [in the eulogy]. I believe that every word I said was true and it was important for me to be honest. I wasn’t looking to make any jabs at anyone actually, I was trying to celebrate Diana and if by doing that it showed up particularly the press I think in a bad way, well, they had that coming.”

Earl Spencer was ‘lied to’ about her sons walking behind Diana’s coffin

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Diana’s brother was “lied to” as he thought her sons wanted to walk behind their mother’s coffin.
The Princess of Wales tragically passed away in August 1997 and the Charles, Earl Spencer has now revealed that the whole ordeal of Prince Harry, Prince William and himself walking behind the coffin procession was “really harrowing”.
He said: “I was lied to and told that they wanted to do it, which of course they didn’t … It was the worst part of the day by a considerable margin, walking behind my sister’s body with two boys who were obviously massively grieving their mother. It was a sort of bizarre circumstance where we were told you just have to look straight ahead.
“But the feeling, the sort of absolute crashing tidal wave of grief coming at you as you went down this sort of tunnel of deep emotion, it was really harrowing actually and I still have nightmares about it now.”
The roads were lined with thousands of people, who had come to pay their respects, and Earl Spencer says the “emotion” coming from the crowd was “so powerful”.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today: “It was impossible not to connect with the emotion coming from the crowd. It was so powerful. Pulsing through us, I think. And it was so bizarre, there was a sort of crunching of our procession, the horses and the carriage and our footsteps, and then the incredible crashing emotion coming in from every side. It was really horrifying.”
It comes after Prince Harry slammed the decision for him to walk behind his mother’s coffin as a young child.
He said recently: “My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television.
“I don’t think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don’t think it would happen today.”

Princes William and Harry didn’t know they’d be so candid in documentary

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Prince Harry told documentary makers that they didn’t actually “have that many memories” of their mother.
The princes were interviewed by Nicolas Kent and Ashley Gething for the recent ITV documentary ‘Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy’ and Kent didn’t realise how “candid” the pair were going to get about the loss of their mother, Princess Diana, who died in August 1997.
Kent told Vanity Fair magazine: “They prefaced their interviews by saying, ‘We don’t actually have that many memories of our mum.’ One of the [side effects] of grief and bereavement is that memories kind of get suppressed or obliterated, so I don’t think they knew, and we certainly didn’t know until we began the interview that they would be so candid. But quite quickly when we began the interview, you could almost begin to see the memories surface.”
In the documentary, Prince William and Prince Harry spoke openly about their relationship with their mother and Harry shared his “regret” at his last phone call with Diana.
He admitted: “As a kid I never enjoyed speaking to my parents on the phone. And we spent far too much time speaking on the phone rather than speaking to each other, because of the way the situation was. And the phone rang and off he [William] went to go and speak to her sort of for five minutes … I can’t really necessarily remember what I said, but all I do remember is probably, you know, regretting for the rest of my life how short the phone call was.”
Whilst William added: “At the time Harry and I were running around minding our own business, you know, playing with our cousins and having a very good time … I think Harry and I were just in a desperate rush to say goodbye, you know, see you later and we’re going to go off. If I’d known now obviously what was going to happen, I wouldn’t have been so blasé about it and everything else. But that phone call sticks in my mind quite, quite heavily.”

Princes William and Harry ‘ensuring the legacy’ of Diana

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William and Prince Harry are “ensuring the legacy” of their mother Diana is “protected”.
When the Princess of Wales tragically died in August 1997, there was worries that the royal family and the institution “wouldn’t survive her death” but broadcaster Piers Morgan believes they got through it thanks to Queen Elizabeth and her grandsons William and Harry.
Piers shared: “Many worried the royals wouldn’t survive her death. But they have, and aside from the wondrously consistent and calming majesty of The Queen, that is mainly down to her sons …
“William and Harry are now ensuring her legacy is protected, remembered and nurtured, and the Monarchy isn’t allowed to slide away into overly formal irrelevance.
“The soul-searching way they have recently taken to pouring their hearts out about everything from mental health to the death of their mother may not be everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, I’ll readily admit it’s not mine.
“But it perfectly resonates with most of the social media driven youth of today, who find the Princes both relatable and, crucially, relevant.”
And Piers went on to call the late Diana a “fascinating, complex and passionate” woman, who he admits made him feel “unusually nervous”.
Writing for the Daily Mail, he added: “Diana was one of the most fascinating, complex, passionate, sexy, scheming and unpredictable women I have ever met. She was also utterly fabulous …
“I found myself feeling unusually nervous as I arrived, and even more so when she asked: ‘Would you mind awfully if William joins us?’ What followed remains one of the most surreal experiences of my life.
“Diana was staggeringly open with me, about Charles, the Queen, and the many varied men in her life. It was clear that she found her ridiculous global fame both exciting and terrifying. ‘I sometimes dream of emigrating,’ she sighed at one stage, ‘but to where? Somebody would find me wherever I went.’ That was true.”

Prince Philip’s final engagement announced

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Philip’s final royal engagement will take place on August 2.
The 96-year-old royal is set to retire from his busy schedule as husband to the monarch Queen Elizabeth next month, and it has now been revealed the final time he will be present at a royal engagement will be for a parade at Buckingham Palace in honour of the finale of the Royal Marines 1664 Global Challenge.
Philip became Captain General of the Royal Marines in 1953 when he replaced King George VI after his death, and the parade will raise money for The Royal Marines Charity.
The special parade marks the final stretch of the 1664 Global Challenge, in which marines from around the country have run 16.64 miles each day for 100 days, totalling a distance of 1,664 miles. The number is symbolic for the naval fighting force, which traces its roots back to the year 1664.
A palace spokeswoman said in a statement that the parade would “bring His Royal Highness’s individual programme to a conclusion, although he may choose to attend certain events, alongside the Queen, from time-to-time.”
The news comes after it was revealed earlier this year that Prince Philip would be stepping down from his royal duties after the summer.
A statement released at the time read: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision.
“Prince Philip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying The Queen. Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements.
“Although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time.”
