Prince Harry wants to give back

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry wants to spend the “rest of his life” giving back to others.
The 33-year-old royal grew a little distant from his role as part of the monarchy after his mother Princess Diana’s passing but he now has come to terms with the “privileged position” he holds and wants to spend the remainder of his days helping other people and raising awareness of important issues.
He said: “I think what happened to my mum probably put me a step back, thinking, how could someone who did so much for the world and did so much for everyone else be treated like that by a certain institution?
“It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you understand the privileged position that you’re in, you go to spend the rest of your life giving back, and gaining the trust and respect of the general public.”
And the flame-haired royal – who is dating ‘Suits’ star Meghan Markle – knows that as a member of the royal family, he has a “bigger, longer platform” than politicians and wants to use his influence to raise awareness of important issues such as mental health, something which himself, his brother Prince William and his sister-in-law, the Duchess Catherine, have been keen to push to raise awareness of it.
Speaking at the Obama Foundation’s inaugural summit in Chicago, he added: “Because of the position that we’re in … you’re not in it for four years, eight years – you’re in it for life. Therefore everything we can do, we have a bigger, longer platform than politicians.
“In today’s world, you have to be involved with things that make sense to where your passions lie, rather than show up to a charity once a year. I don’t think that’s beneficial to anybody.”

Duchess Catherine’s tennis tips fro Judy Murray

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine is getting tips from Judy Murray on how to encourage Prince George to learn to play tennis.
The 35-year-old royal visited the Lawn Tennis Association on Tuesday (31.10.17), where she chatted to Judy – the mother and coach of tennis stars Andy and Jamie Murray – on how best to get her four-year-old son interested in playing the sport and not just “whacking the ball”.
Lawn Tennis Association coach Sam Richardson, who also spoke to the Duchess at the event, said: “She asked what kind of stuff George should be doing [at his age].
“He is interested in tennis but, being four, he just wants to whack the ball. She said she had also spoken to Judy Murray, who advised her to take the racket away and just focus on skills.”
And it seems like Prince George has something else to learn shortly as his father Prince William – who also has Princess Charlotte, two, and is expecting a third child with Catherine – recently revealed he was keen to teach his eldest son how to call 999 in an emergency after he met a girl who saved her mum’s life by doing so.
Speaking after meeting a girl called Suzie, who was just four-years-old when she rang 999 and told them about her mother’s symptoms over the phone and saved her life, he said: “I have a four-year-old called George and if I gave him a telephone I do not know what he would do. And do you know what I’m going to have a conversation with my George about what to do because of what you’ve done. It’s really important.”

Prince Harry: Diana is my ideal role model

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry’s late mother Princess Diana is his “ideal role model”.
The flame-haired royal has praised his late mom – who passed away in August 1997 after a car accident – for “putting her name towards some of the big issues” that hadn’t been addressed before.
Speaking at a summit in Chicago held by former US President Barack Obama, he said: “I think she had a lot in common with everybody, but she would also listen. She put her name and platform towards some of the big issues which had never been talked about before. We suffer from this illusion, or reality I suppose, where some problems become so big no one wants to get involved. She was the one who wanted to change that. I will always look up to her as my ideal role model. Everything she did was having an impact, it was making a difference.”
Prince Harry has been keen to follow in his mother’s footsteps and recently gave a speech when he encouraged young people to “look up from their phones” and go out and “change the world”.
He said: “The thousands of you gathered here are proof that today’s generation of young people is the most connected, most energised, and most confident the planet has ever known. You know that differences of opinion, of circumstance, of race and religion – are to be respected and celebrated.
“You know that in a clickbait culture, we cannot waste time sharing and drawing attention to things that make us angry, or that we know to be false. You all know that it’s great to ‘like’ things on social media, but that it’s more important to look up from our phones, to get out into our communities, and to take real action; to stand up for what you believe in.”

Queen Elizabeth’s 27 visits of Canada

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has visited Canada more than any other country during her reign.
The 91-year-old monarch became queen in Kenya in February 1952 when she discovered her father King George VI had passed away in his sleep, and since then she has been to Canada more than any other nation, heading to the North American country a massive 27 times.
However, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Elizabeth has visited the nation so many times seeing as she is the Sovereign of the constitutional monarchy of Canada, and all ministers and the armed forces swear allegiance to her in the country.
The queen has also headed to Australia on 18 different occasions, making it her second-most visited behind Canada, according to the Daily Express.
Elizabeth met with the Australian Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove just last month at her Scottish residence of Balmoral, and the pair bemoaned the “gloomy” weather.
He said upon meeting her: “The rain has been unceasing.”
She replied: “Yes, we were just saying that it really is rather gloomy today I’m afraid.”
Elizabeth met with Julie Payette, the governor general of Canada, in September, too.
While the queen has been accompanied by Prince Philip on many foreign engagements, he is unlikely to do so in the future after retiring from royal duties earlier this year.
A statement released at the time read: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision.
“Prince Philip will attend previously scheduled engagements between now and August, both individually and accompanying The Queen. Thereafter, The Duke will not be accepting new invitations for visits and engagements.
“Although he may still choose to attend certain public events from time to time.”

Prince Charles and Camilla indulge in PDA

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, indulged in a rare public kiss in Singapore.
The royal couple marked their reunion with a sneaky smooch after they both headed to their 11-day visit of Southeast Asia, which begins with the sovereign city-state, separately.
Charles flew over to Singapore on an RAF Voyager flight, and the Duchess of Cornwall made her own way over after enjoying a private retreat.
Charles and Camilla don’t tend to share a smooch in public and their latest public display of affection is thought to be only the third time they have done so with the other two occasions taking place more than 12 years ago.
They were spotted embracing at a polo match in 2005 ahead of their marriage, and four years previously they kissed in public at a Somerset House reception.
Following their public display of affection, Charles and Camilla received an official welcome at Singapore’s Presidential Palace to mark the first full day of their visit.
One of their first engagements was to meet Singaporean athletes and para-athletes, and Charles was presented with the Commonwealth Baton, which he will also see next April when he represents his mother, Queen Elizabeth, at the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Clarence Chew, 21, a member of Singapore’s national table tennis team, handed Charles the baton and revealed the 68-year-old royal asked him about the sport.
He said: “The Prince was asking about our sport and he said table tennis was a fast sport and an exciting sport.”
Swimming para-athlete Yip Pin Xiu, 25, added: “It’s great the baton has the queen’s message inside and it’s travelling all around the Commonwealth countries.”
Charles and Camilla’s Autumn Tour – which will also take them to Malaysia, Brunei and India – is at the request of the British Government and celebrates the UK’s partnership with Commonwealth Nations.

Queen Elizabeth to receive wedding cake recreation

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip will receive a recreation of their 9ft-tall wedding cake to mark their 70th anniversary.
The royal couple will be able to see the impressive calorific treat once again after chefs at Le Cordon Bleu spent months creating the incredible cake, which weighs 500lbs and includes 660 eggs and nearly four gallons of rum.
While it could’ve been their dessert for months, Elizabeth, 91, and Philip, 96, will only get to keep the top tier, with the bottom three sections heading to charities and nursing homes as well as pensioners at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, west London.
Head patisserie chef Julie Walsh admitted it was a tough task because there was no original template.
She told the Sunday Express newspaper: “The project had its challenges due to the sheer size and scale.
“Every detail had to be hand drawn to form a template because no original existed.”
While the royal couple’s impressive wedding cake has been recreated to mark their anniversary, the pair will not have a national celebration to see in the platinum event on November 20.
A royal source recently said: “Any celebration will be a private, family affair.
“There will be no public event.”
The pair previously marked their silver, golden and diamond wedding anniversaries with national services of thanksgiving, which were held at London’s Westminster Abbey.
However, a tune, ‘Royal Platinum Love Song’, has been composed by Russian Olga Thomas, and features Australian tenor Daniel Koek and soprano Joanna Forest, to mark the event, and double-headed platinum coins will be released.

Prince William to teach Prince George about Pride of Britain lesson

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William will teach Prince George to always call 999 in an emergency after meeting a girl who saved her mum’s life by doing so.
The 35-year-old royal had a chat with five-year-old Suzie McCash at the Pride of Britain Awards at Grosvenor Hotel in London on Monday night (30.10.17), and told the youngster her actions were “really important” and that he will educate his son to do the same if ever faced with a similar situation.
William – who also has two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with wife Duchess Catherine – said: “I have a four-year-old called George and if I gave him a telephone I do not know what he would do.
“And do you know what I’m going to have a conversation with my George about what to do because of what you’ve done.
“It’s really important.”
Suzie was just four years old when she rang 999 and explained her mother’s symptoms over the phone after her mum had collapsed and stop breathing.
Following her brave actions, the youngster was given the Child of Courage prize at the ceremony.
Moin Younis, 17, took home the Teenage Child of Courage award and enjoyed chatting to William about their shared love of football giants Aston Villa and their opinions on the current side.
The teenager – who has a rare condition which causes his skin to blister at the slightest touch – is quoted by the Birmingham Mail as saying: “We talked about our love of the Villa,
“We shared our thoughts about the current team and our hopes for the end of the season.”
Moin also described the Duke of Cambridge as “one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet”.

Prince William’s emergency services praise

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William praised the “inspiring” emergency services and Grenfell Tower survivors at the Pride of Britain Awards.
Alongside Holly Willoughby and her ‘This Morning’ co-host Phillip Schofield, William honoured the efforts of the London Fire Brigade, presenting them with the Emergency Services Award for their actions battling the tragic Grenfell Tower fire earlier this year, which caused an estimated 80 deaths.
Speaking at the event at London’s Grosvenor House on Monday night (30.10.17), William said: “We should all take a moment to understand and appreciate all emergency services personnel and what they achieve in their communities.”
Holly wrote on Instagram: “Honoured to stand shoulder to shoulder with the heroic firefighters of the @londonfirebrigade Awarded last night for their bravery at the horrific Grenfell fire… hugely deserved, we can not thank you enough. Also… Commissioner Dany Cotton … what an amazing lady you are, that’s true girl power! Xxx (sic)”
Presenting two Special Recognition accolades to residents and community helpers, he said: “Thank you for the hard work you’ve all done, the community spirit you’ve shown, the coming together as you did so quickly after Grenfell. I’m just so sorry that such an awful event ever occurred.
“It’s truly inspiring how you all rallied to help.”
William – who has son Prince George, four, and two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with wife Duchess Catherine – also praised the emergency services in Manchester, north west England, for their efforts following a terrorist attack in the city earlier this year.
He said: “I can’t say enough how proud I am of what you do on a daily basis.
“I genuinely don’t know how you see some of the things you see and I don’t understand how difficult it must have been for you.
“You take those scars home with you mentally and yet you come back the next day and you still do fantastic work.”
TV presenter Holly also admitted it was a “magical night” meeting the 35-year-old royal at the star-studded event.
In a caption attached to a picture of the presenting pair engaged in a conversation with William, Holly wrote on Instagram: “So this happened last night… thank you @prideofbritain for what is always a magical night…. (sic)”

Meghan Markle urged to heed the advice of the Duchess of Cornwall

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle should seek the advice of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall if she marries Prince Harry, according to a royal expert.
The ‘Suits’ actress – who, like Camilla, has been divorced in the past – has been dating the flame-haired royal since mid-2016 and in recent months, speculation has been rife that the duo will soon tie the knot.
But Robert Lacey, historical consultant for the hit Netflix series ‘The Crown’, believes Meghan could learn a lot from chatting to Camilla about the challenges of joining the royal family.
He told the New York Post newspaper: “Times have changed and the heat is off Meghan. She is a new recruit but, apart from being assigned a lady-in-waiting, it would be demeaning for her to get too much advice from courtiers.
“The best person to give Meghan advice would be her fellow divorcée, Camilla. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had taken Meghan aside for a strong gin and tonic and some helpful tips on joining the royal family.
“She’s a very funny woman who’s had it all thrown at her but survived.”
Meghan and the Prince have kept a low profile since they’ve been dating.
But in an interview conducted earlier this year, the brunette beauty insisted dating royalty hasn’t changed her.
Meghan – who was married to film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 until 2013 – said: “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception.
“Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

Queen Elizabeth’s security details found on USB stick

OHMYGOSSIP — A security breach at Heathrow Airport has revealed the route the Queen takes when flying.
The information has been discovered on a USB stick that has been found on the streets of London, according to the Sunday Mirror newspaper, which reports that officials fear the data may already have been shared on the dark web.
As well as revealing the route the Queen takes on a plane, the USB also details the extra security that’s put in place to keep her safe and the timetables of her guards’ patrols.
A source told the publication: “In the wrong hands this would represent a profound threat in terms of terrorism or espionage.”
It has been reported, too, that the USB drive was not password protected and documents weren’t encrypted, either.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Heathrow Airport said: “Heathrow’s top priority is the safety and security of our passengers and colleagues.
“The UK and Heathrow have some of the most robust aviation security measures in the world and we remain vigilant to evolving threats by updating our procedures on a daily basis. We have reviewed all of our security plans and are confident that Heathrow remains secure.
“We have also launched an internal investigation to understand how this happened and are taking steps to prevent a similar occurrence in future.”
Heathrow Airport is situated in West London and is one of the busiest transport hubs in the world.

Prince Charles and Camilla begin tour of Singapore

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall begin their four-day tour of Singapore today (30.10.17).
The royal couple are poised to meet a host of big names during their tour of the island city-state, including President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Prince Charles and the Duchess will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Istana on Tuesday (31.10.17), while they will also have an official dinner thrown in their honour by President Halimah.
The trip is Prince Charles’ second official visit to Singapore, with the British royal having last been to the city-state in 1979.
The future King’s appearance in Singapore comes shortly after Labour peer Tony Berkeley said he wants Prince Charles to pay more tax.
He tabled a Private Member’s Bill designed to bring the Duchy into line with other firms by forcing it to pay corporation tax.
Under the current set up, the Duchy provides an annual income to Prince Charles through different areas of land and property, which is valued at more than £1 billion.
And while Prince Charles voluntarily pays income tax on what he earns from the Duchy, he does not pay corporation tax at the moment.
Berkeley said: “There are too many royals on the public purse. There should be no more than two or three.
“My Bill would bring the Duchy into line with other successful commercial ventures. Charles should pay the same taxes as everyone else.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘are distant cousins’

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly distant cousins.
The 33-year-old royal has been dating the ‘Suits’ actress since mid-2016, but a genealogical investigation by the Mail on Sunday newspaper suggests that the loved-up couple are, in fact, distant cousins.
According to the study, the duo are related through a late 15th Century ancestor of the Queen Mother.
Meghan’s link to the British royal family stem from her father Thomas Markle, the award-winning cinematographer.
The research comes amid speculation that Prince Harry is poised to propose to the actress, with rumours suggesting the duo could tie the knot in 2018.
And last week, royal expert Katie Nicholl revealed Prince Harry had a crush on Meghan for “two years” before they met.
The brunette beauty first caught the Prince’s eye two years prior to their meeting, as he had been attracted to Rachel Zane, her character on the USA Network drama show.
Katie said: “He had a crush on Rachel Zane two years before he met Meghan and the reason I know is because I was having drinks with one of his friends.
“She told me she’d been on a night out with Prince Harry. He was single at the time, so she said, ‘Harry, who’s your ideal girl?’ And he said ‘Meghan Markle from ‘Suits’.”
Prince Harry orchestrated a meeting between the pair in July 2016 through mutual friend Markus Anderson, and whilst they met up with “seven or eight” people, it was the “perfect opportunity” for the two to talk.
Katie revealed: “He asked Markus if he could set up, not a date, but an opportunity for them to meet and that happened in one of the private rooms of Soho House.
“There were about seven or eight of them altogether and it was a perfect opportunity for Harry and Meghan to come together in a really informal environment and actually talk.
“She was funny, feisty, confident and she wasn’t swayed or knocked by the fact that he was Prince Harry. She thought he was terribly cute.”

Prince Harry has been mentoring Meghan Markle

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has reportedly been teaching Meghan Markle how to behave like a royal.
The loved-up couple have been dating since mid-2016 and as rumours of a proposal continue to swirl, it’s been claimed that the flame-haired Prince has been mentoring his girlfriend about the demands of being royalty.
British writer Katie Nicholl told the New York Post newspaper: “He knows how daunting this will be for Meghan and he’s keen for her to be relaxed in the company of senior royals.”
Meghan, 36, has already met with Queen Elizabeth and, according to Katie, he offered her advice on how she should address the British Monarch.
She said: “Harry will have made sure Meghan knew how to address the queen and how to behave in her presence.
“He calls her ‘Granny,’ but after Meghan had curtsied and called her ‘Your Majesty,’ she would have reverted to ‘ma’am.’ It seems strange to mere mortals, but it is how [Princess] Kate addresses her.”
Despite this, Ingrid Seward, the editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, has warned that Meghan – who was previously married to American film producer Trevor Engelson from 2011 until 2013 – could struggle to make the adjustment.
Reflecting on the challenges potentially facing Meghan as a royal, Ingrid explained: “She will always have to remember, in public at least, that she is royalty and certain behaviours are expected.
“It’s going to be difficult for her because she is an independent career woman who [won’t] really like being told what to do.”

Prince Harry left ‘broken’ after being pulled from Army

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry was left “broken” when he was pulled out of Afghanistan during his time in the Army.
The 33-year-old royal was taken out of the country 10 weeks into his tour in 2008 after foreign media broke a news blackout surrounding his presence there, and he has now admitted he was left feeling worried for his fellow soldiers, as he had no idea what would happen to them.
Prince Harry spoke as he was meeting with the parents of 21-year-old Morten Krogh Jensen, who was killed in the battle and whose body was flown back on the same plane the royal was on.
He told them: “I was broken. I didn’t know what was going to happen to them [his fellow British soldiers] and suddenly I find myself on a plane that’s delayed because a Danish soldier’s coffin was being put into the plane.”
The flame-haired royal cites the experience – in which he was also placed on a plane with several wounded British soldiers – as being pivotal in his decision to set up the Invictus Games, an Olympic style event which sees injured service men and women compete in various sports for their country.
Denmark’s Prince Joachim said of Harry’s meeting with Jensen’s parents: “This was an eye opener for prince Harry … This was a motivating factor for him to start pushing to establish the Invictus.”
It isn’t the first time Prince Harry has spoken about being taken out of Afghanistan, as he also detailed the event ahead of the Invictus Games in Toronto last month.
He said at the time: “As I was waiting to board the plane, the coffin of a Danish soldier was loaded on by his friends.
“Once on the flight, I was confronted with three British soldiers, all in induced comas, with missing limbs, and wrapped in plastic.
“The way I viewed service and sacrifice changed forever. And the direction of my life changed with it.”

Duchess Catherine to visit Lawn Tennis Association next week

OHMYGOSSIP — Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, will visit the Lawn Tennis Association next week.
The 35-year-old royal – who is currently expecting her third child with her husband Prince William – is expected to pay a visit to the London association on Tuesday (31.10.17), where she will meet with young people who are taking a keen interest in the sport.
Whilst there, Catherine – who has four-year-old son Prince George and two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with her spouse – will watch several on-court sessions, including a wheelchair tennis demonstration, and take part in the Tennis for Kids session, which is an LTA-run programme which teaches young children, aged five to eight years old, how to play and enjoy tennis.
The royal – who is a keen tennis player herself and often attends the Wimbledon tennis tournament – will also be briefed about the LTA’s latest activities and objectives, as well as having the chance to meet some of the UK’s top junior talents and members of the training teams including coaches, nutritionists and physiotherapists.
Catherine, who became royal patron of the LTA in 2016 when she took over the role from Queen Elizabeth, will also meet some of the apprentices taking part in the Coach Core scheme.
The scheme was set up by Catherine alongside her husband Prince William and his brother Prince Harry through their Royal Foundation, with the aim of supporting young people, aged 16 to 24 with limited opportunities, who want to become sports coaches.
Meanwhile, the brunette beauty spoke recently about her love for tennis, which she has played since she was a young girl.
She said: “I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up. It’s such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters, myself, it inspired me, when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn’t changed either, I think that’s what’s so wonderful.”

Prince Harry: People spend too much time online

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry thinks young people are spending “too much time online”.
The 33-year-old royal is concerned that the time young people spend on social media can be damaging to their mental health, as he compared the Internet to a “mental running machine” that cannot be stopped until the person decides to get off the websites.
He said: “People are spending far too much time online and it’s like a mental running machine that they can’t get off. You wouldn’t put your body through such a workout.”
But the flame-haired hunk doesn’t think banning young people from using social media will help the situation, and believes people just need to “talk” to one another more often to discuss their mental health.
Speaking during a visit to a mental health charity discussion held at one of Copenhagen’s leading chain of bakeries, Harry added: “It’s crazy and scary. I’m the last person to say ban it but people are suffering from mental fatigue and getting burnt out. We all need to talk to each other more.”
Prince Harry – who is currently on a royal visit in Denmark – also met ambassadors for Denmark’s One of Us charity, all of whom had mental problems in the past but are now helping others.
Speaking to the ambassadors, Harry – who set up the Heads Together mental health charity alongside his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Duchess Catherine – said: “In the UK we found people were scared to talk about their problems but that is changing fast and it’s now becoming normal for younger people to talk about mental health, whether it’s bipolar, depression or losing a relative.
“You have all been in a dark place but have come through and your experiences are invaluable to help others. You are proof that you don’t have to be a professional to make a difference and turn a negative into a positive.”
Ambassador Troels Torp said afterwards that speaking to the Prince was “great”, and praised the royal as “very kind and caring”.
Troels said: “It was great to talk to the Prince as I thought he was an equal. You could see he had been in a dark place once himself because of his mother and that’s why he can relate to us. He was very kind and caring and down to earth.”
