Idris Elba’s ‘famous’ Prince Charles letter

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba felt “famous” when he received a letter from Prince Charles during his youth.
The Luther actor received a grant from The Prince’s Trust when he was 18 which set him on the road to Hollywood, and he will always remember the moment he was told the good news via a special note through the post.
Speaking on BBC’s ‘The One Show’, he said: “I am one of the kids that he helped out. I wanted to go to the National Youth Music Theatre, but I couldn’t afford it, my parents couldn’t afford it, and I remember someone said, ‘Prince Charles helps people out.’
“I was like, ‘Wow.’ Then I auditioned and I never forget, it was probably about two or three weeks later and my mum said, ‘You’ve got a letter.’ And it had the royal seal on it, and I was like, ‘Wow, Prince Charles knows who I am. Are you joking?
“The queen knows me. Wow, I’m definitely famous.’ ”
The 45-year-old star is now a Prince’s Trust ambassador, and doesn’t believe he would be where he is today without the grant.
He recently said: “If I pinpoint a time when I didn’t have any money, my parents didn’t have any money, I needed some help, The Prince’s Trust came through – The Prince’s Trust and my Auntie May.
“The Prince’s Trust gave me some money to go to the National Youth Music Theatre.
“And I remember if I hadn’t got that money, I wouldn’t have ever gone into that theatre show, I wouldn’t have had that experience of going into the National Theatre, and I probably wouldn’t be standing here today, that’s sort of the truth.”
The Prince’s Trust was founded by Charles in 1976 to help people aged 11 to 30 get jobs, education and training.

Prince Harry calls for nations to ‘redouble’ efforts in landmine campaign

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has called on world leaders to “redouble” their efforts to enable the world to be landmine free by 2025.
The 33-year-old royal is following in his late mother Princess Diana’s footsteps in campaigning for the eradication of the explosive devices, but he insists governments, foundations and individuals must “stiffen [their] resolve” to achieve such a goal.
Speaking in a recorded video message posted on The HALO Trust’s YouTube page for the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Mine Ban Treaty, he said: “Millions of people are still affected by mines, and there is much more which still needs to be done.
“The Mine Ban Treaty includes a commitment from the international community to clear the world of landmines by 2025.
“With just eight years to go, we must stiffen our resolve and redouble our efforts if we are to stand any chance of achieving this goal.
“I am delighted that the British government has taken the lead by increasing its funding to clear these terrible legacies of war.
“But without similar commitments across the world, the 2025 goal will not be achieved.
“Let us not meet again in another 10 years and hear that a new generation of children face being killed or maimed through innocent play.”
Harry also admitted it was a “tremendous achievement” that 29 states are now considered “mine-free” and a testament to the Mine Ban Treaty’s “ambition and vision”.
He added: “Together, the states, donors and non-government groups gathered here in Vienna, have made huge progress towards achieving a world free of mines.
“To date, 29 states have been declared mine-free – a tremendous achievement, and a testament to the Treaty’s ambition and vision.”
The Mine Ban Treaty, also known as the Ottawa Treaty, was signed in December 1997, just a few months after Diana’s death.
She had championed the final stages of the Treaty and in January of that year famously walked through a cleared minefield in Angola.

Prince Harry is appointed as new Captain General of the Royal Marines

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has approved of Prince Harry’s appointment as the Captain General of the Royal Marines.
The British monarch’s grandson is set to replace her husband Prince Philip as Captain General as the Duke of Edinburgh steps down from royal duties.
Prince Harry was with Prince Philip on Tuesday afternoon (19.12.17) as the pair celebrated both the incoming and outgoing Commandants General during a reception at Buckingham Palace.
It marks Prince Philip’s last duty as Captain General, a position he has held since 1953. He was given this role over six decades ago, taking over from the Queen’s father, King George VI.
A statement released from Kensington Palace on their official Twitter account reads: “The Queen has approved the appointment of Prince Harry as Captain General Royal Marines in succession to The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Harry accompanied The Duke in his final duty as Captain General today, as Their Royal Highnesses received the incoming and outgoing Commandants General @RoyalMarines at Buckingham Palace. (sic)”

Prince Charles ‘heartbroken’ by Christian suffering

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Charles feels “heartbroken beyond words” at the “pain and suffering” being endured by Christians who are persecuted.
The 69-year-old royal admitted Christians in Syria, Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries face “troubled times” and cannot believe such hatred goes on “in this day and age”.
Speaking at a service of prayers for persecuted Christians around the world at St Barnabas Church, Pimlico, central London on Tuesday (19.12.17), he said: “Such barbaric persecution is even more perverse and dreadful when as many Christians seem unaware.
“As someone who, throughout my life, has tried, in whatever small way I can, to foster understanding between people of faith, and to build bridges between the great religions of the world, it is heart-breaking beyond words to see just how much pain and suffering is being endured by Christians, in this day and age, simply because of their faith.”
The Prince of Wales also called on Christians “who enjoy the rights of freedom of worship” not to take such rights for granted.
According to Christian Today, he added: “As Christians we remember, of course, how our Lord called upon us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute. But for those confronted with such hatred and oppression, I can only begin to imagine how incredibly hard it must be to follow Christ’s example.
“It is so vitally important, in this season of Advent and throughout the year, that Christians in this country and elsewhere, who enjoy the rights of freedom of worship and freedom of expression, do not take those rights for granted; and that we remember, and do what we can to support, our fellow Christians for whom the denial of such rights has had such profound and painful consequences.”
Last year, Charles called for an end to the “appalling suffering” of Christians in Syria.
He said: “It is surely deeply encouraging, at a time when the members of the Syriac Orthodox Church in their homelands of Syria and Iraq are undergoing such desperate trials and such appalling suffering, that in Britain the Syriac Church is able to expand and gain in strength.”

The Prince of Wales releases official Christmas card

OHMYGOSSIP — The Prince of Wales has released his official Christmas card.
The 69-year-old royal and his 70-year-old wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, have taken to social media to share the imagery to accompany their festive wishes.
And the photograph, which captures a sweet photo of the couple – who married in 2005 – has been shared on the Clarence House social media sites.
In the picture Prince Charles can be seen sporting a smart, black tuxedo, with a crisp white shirt and black bow tie, while Camilla dons a glitzy gown.
And the card reads: “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year”.
Clarence House tweeted an image of the card perched on a Christmas tree, which was captioned: “Here is this year’s official Christmas card from The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. (sic).”
And the reason for the couple’s glamorous attire is because the photo was taken earlier in the year when they attended Camilla’s 70th birthday party.
The post continued: “The photograph was taken by Hugo Burnand at Highgrove in July during the private 70th Birthday party of The Duchess of Cornwall. (sic).”
Charles and Camilla’s Christmas card comes shortly after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared their family greetings image.
An adorable image of Prince William, with his 35-year-old spouse – who is pregnant with their third baby – and their two children, Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte have been shared on the Kensington Palace’s Instagram account.
The post read: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to share a new photograph of their family. The image features on Their Royal Highnesses’ Christmas card this year. The photograph shows The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their two children at Kensington Palace. It was taken earlier this year by @chrisjacksongetty (sic).”
The sweet picture captures the foursome co-coordinating in blue, as William, 35, dons a suit with a pale-blue tie to match Catherine’s blazer and skirt ensemble, as well as George’s pinstripe shirt and Charlotte’s printed dress.

The royal chefs ‘over 1200 mince pies’ over Christmas

OHMYGOSSIP — The royal chefs have to make “over 1200 mince pies” for every festive reception at each palace over Christmas.
The culinary staff who serve for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip as well as the other members of the royal family are required to make thousands of the sweet treats to serve at conventions, which takes place in Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace over the Yuletide.
In a post on Royal.uk, it read: “[Royal chefs Victoria Scupham and Kathryn Cuthbertson] Together they now have over 17 years experience inside the Royal Kitchens and will create over 1200 mince pies for each of the festive receptions held at the Palaces around Christmas time.”
And though that figure seems like an extraordinary amount Kathryn has insisted it is “doable” to make such large batches.
She said: “It’s probably thousands each but as long as you are organised, it’s doable.”
The crew make the filling for their mince pies “months in advance”, as “different variations” of the feast are created too.
The post read: “Royal Chefs also create different variations of the classic mince pie; one is slightly smaller than the traditional, with flaked almonds brushed with egg whites and icing sugar, ‘to add a bit of texture,’ says Kathryn. Another version is made with puff pastry.
“Everything from the mincemeat to the pastry is handmade by the small team in the kitchens at Buckingham Palace. The mincemeat is made months in advance and stored in the pantry.”
But the key to achieving the perfect mince pie is timing.
Kathryn said: “Give yourself plenty of time.”
Victoria added: “Pastry is not something that likes to be rushed.”
And the recipe for the sweet pie filled with dried fruit can be found on Royal.uk.

The 27-year-old royal – who is the daughter of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and his former partner Sarah, the Duchess of York – has helped to raise the whopping figure after she recently attended the Charge II gala and boxing event, which took place at London’s Royal Horticultural Society Halls, to help raise awareness about elephant and rhinoceros poaching across Africa, Hello! And those who attended the event also enjoyed an extravagant meal, which consisted of ginger poached lobster, a lamb dish, followed by a mouth-watering chocolate dessert.

Inbal Dror confirms she will design Meghan Markle’s wedding dress

OHMYGOSSIP — Inbal Dror has confirmed she will design Meghan Markle’s wedding dress.
The Israel-based designer has announced she was contacted by Kensington Palace to create the marital gown the former ‘Suits’ actress will wear when she ties the knot to fiancé Prince Harry next year, and the creative mastermind has already sent a sketch of the garment to Meghan to consider.
A spokesperson for the label told PEOPLE: “We received a request from the royal family to send a sketch.”
However, Dror and the newly engaged couple have remained tight-lipped about the details of the wedding dress.
The spokesperson added: “Unfortunately it’s a secret and I can’t give more details about the sketch.”
Dror has previously designed gowns for fellow celebrities, including Beyonce and actress Naomi Watts.
Dror’s designs are known to be ornately designed and regularly feature embellishment, as well as sheer panel detail and plunge necklines.
However, Dror’s garments are hard to find in the UK as they are only stocked in one boutique named Morgan Davies, although she boasts a flagship store in Tel Aviv, as well as more stockists in America.
This news comes shortly after fashion designer Victoria Beckham was said to be keen to make Meghan’s dress for her and Harry’s nuptials on May 19, 2018.
A separate source previously said: “Victoria’s dream is to design Meghan’s wedding dress – and she’s determined to achieve it. Victoria is a very savvy businesswoman. She knows that getting Meghan on board early on would be an all-round winner for her and her brand – it would be as good as receiving the royal seal of approval on her designs.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are ‘impressed’ with London’s Willcocks Nursery

OHMYGOSSIP — The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are “impressed” with the staff at London’s Willcocks Nursery.
The 35-year-old couple announced their two-year-old daughter was set to attend the establishment earlier this week, and it is believed Prince William and Duchess Catherine – who are expecting their third child together – settled on the institution, which is located in the Holy Trinity Church in Kensington, because they were blown away by the teachers who work there.
A source told PEOPLE: “They chose that nursery because they thought it would be an ideal first step for Charlotte’s education and they were impressed by the team who work there.”
And it has been reported the fees for Willcocks nursery will rack up to over £3,000 per term, which means just under £10,000 after one year.
And according to the Nursery’s official website, they strive to maintain its “ethos for high standards, excellence and good manners”.
The site reads: “The Willcocks Nursery is a traditional nursery school which strives to maintain its ethos for high standards, excellence and good manners”.
But it is believed William and Catherine’s decision has come as a surprise to some, as it was thought Charlotte would go to the same nursery as her sibling who started at Thomas’s Battersea in September this year.
Although George attended nursery on a part-time basis at first, it is rumoured Charlotte will be attending Willcocks Nursery full time from January 4, 2018.
Kensington Palace’s Instagram account shared the news Charlotte was set to take her first steps into education in the New Year on Monday (18.12.17) with a sweet photograph of the foursome posing for their annual Christmas card.
Alongside a photograph of William, Catherine, Charlotte and her four-year-old brother George, it read: “Their Royal Highnesses have also announced this morning that Princess Charlotte will attend the Willcocks Nursery School in London from January 2018 (sic).”

Windsor hotels selling out fast ahead of royal wedding

OHMYGOSSIP — Hotels in Windsor are selling out fast ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding next May.
Following the couple’s announcement on Friday (15.12.17) that they will tie the knot on May 19, 2018, at Windsor Castle, hundreds of fans and media teams flocked to popular hotel websites to book up accommodation in Berkshire area.
A search on the likes of Hotels.com and Booking.com for the night of Harry and Meghan’s nuptials showed a distinct lack of hotels near to the castle still available, but there were some still vacant in the surrounding areas.
Kensington Palace announced last Friday that the 33-year-old royal and the 36-year-old actress will tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in Berkshire, south east England, on May 19 – the same day as English football’s FA Cup final in London.
A statement said: “His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018. Today’s announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.”
Harry and Meghan started dating in mid-2016 and he popped the question earlier this year during a “cosy night in”.
Meghan said: “It was a cosy night, we were roasting chicken … and it was an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee … Yes. As a matter of fact, I could barely let [Harry] finish proposing.”
Harry added: “She didn’t even let me finish. She said, ‘Can I say yes’. Then there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger. I was like ‘ Can I give you the ring?’ It was a really nice moment. Just the two of us.”

Prince Harry showed Queen Suits clips

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry showed Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip clips of ‘Suits’ before they met his fiancee Meghan Markle.
The 36-year-old actress stars as Rachel Zane in the US legal drama series – which she has quit since getting engaged to the 33-year-old royal – and her husband-to-be showed his grandparents some scenes from the series to educate them in what she did for a job.
A friend of Meghan in Los Angeles said: “Harry had been beaming for months about his blossoming romance when he went to see his grandparents.
“And as he explained his feelings and pride about Meghan, he wanted to show the queen just what Meghan did for a job.
“Some clips were played from YouTube for her although Her Majesty does not have time to binge watch the series from the start.”
Displaying the footage for the queen and Philip is said to have helped Harry “show off” just how “successful” Meghan has been in her career.
The pal added to the Sunday Express newspaper: “Obviously he had spoken at length beforehand about all her charitable work and interest in causes that the pair shared.
“It was a very touching moment and a nice way for Harry to show off Meghan to them.
“The moment helped Harry to show his older family how successful his future wife had been in her career.”
Meghan is expected to spend Christmas with the 91-year-old monarch and Philip, 96, this year at Sandringham House in Norfolk, England.
The newly-engaged couple are expected to attend the traditional morning service at St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas Day (25.12.17).
Harry’s brother Prince William, his wife Duchess Catherine and their two children, George, four, and Charlotte, two, are also set to join in with the festivities.

Prince Harry interviews Barack Obama for Radio 4’s Today show

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry threatened to give Barack Obama “the face” if he gave long pauses in between answers during their radio interview.
The 33-year-old royal has pre-recorded an interview with the former US President for an upcoming segment on Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme, and in a sneak preview Harry was heard joking that he would warn Obama with a mock stare if he needed the 56-year-old politician to keep speaking.
In a video preview of their chat released on the Kensington Palace Twitter account, Obama said: “Do I have to speak faster? Because I’m a slow speaker. Do I need a British accent?”
Harry replied: “Not at all … but if you start using long pauses between the answers you’re probably going to get the face.”
Obama responded: “Let me see the face.”
Harry then put on a mock stare and Obama laughed, saying: “Oh OK, I don’t want to see that face.”
The flame-haired royal then returned to serious mode and explained some details about their interview.
He said: “As you know for the 40 minutes it’s going to be a 20-minute package for the BBC for Christmas. We hope to use the whole thing as a podcast afterwards.”
Obama replied: “It’s going to be fine … excellent.”
Harry then admitted he was “nervous” about interviewing Obama.
He said: “You’re excited about this, I’m nervous. That’s what’s quite funny.”
Obama offered him a way out, saying: “I’ll interview you if you want?”
But Harry politely declined.
He added: “No, no. Let’s keep it this way, I’d much prefer that.”
Harry will be the guest editor of the ‘Today’ show – Radio 4’s early morning news and current affairs programme – on December 27 when his interview with Obama will be broadcast.
A tweet on the official Kensington Palace account stated: “Prince Harry’s guest editorship of @BBCRadio4 Today programme on the 27th December will feature an interview with former US President @BarackObama. The interview focuses on their shared interest in building platforms for the next generation of young leaders.
“The conversation with @BarackObama includes his memories of the day he left office and his hopes for his post-presidential life, including his plans to focus on cultivating the next generation of leadership through the @ObamaFoundation.(sic)”

Inbal Dror to design Meghan Markle’s dress?

OHMYGOSSIP — An Israeli wedding dress designer is said to have received a request for a sketch from the Royal Family.
Inbal Dror is said to have been asked to provide a drawing, sparking speculation the bridal gown designer could be set to make Meghan Markle’s outfit for her wedding to Prince Harry in May next year.
A piece on the Jerusalem Post claimed: “Inbar Dror, a popular bridal fashion designer from Ashdod, received an official request for a sketch from the British royal family. (sic)”
It wouldn’t be the first time Dror has designed for a huge star though, as Beyonce worn one of their bridal designs in December last year.
A post on the official Inbal Dror Instagram account showed a snap of the ‘Single Ladies’ hitmaker wearing the outfit and added the caption: “Wedding dresses aren’t just for brides! Gorgeous Queen B wearing our gown to award show and look stunning (sic)”
This comes after fashion designer Victoria Beckham was said to be keen to make Meghan’s dress for her and Harry’s nuptials on May 19, 2018.
A source recently said: “Victoria’s dream is to design Meghan’s wedding dress – and she’s determined to achieve it. Victoria is a very savvy businesswoman. She knows that getting Meghan on board early on would be an all-round winner for her and her brand – it would be as good as receiving the royal seal of approval on her designs.”
The 36-year-old actress and the former Spice Girls singer are said to have bonded recently after Victoria – wife of former footballer David Beckham – gave the ex-‘Suits’ star London beauty salon recommendations.
A source said: “Meghan has been really pleased with Victoria’s beauty recommendations and has her to thank for meeting new friends in London.
“They have grown close and regularly text after Victoria told Meghan to visit Sarah Chapman, who bills herself ‘London’s most sought-after facialist’. Meghan trusts and appreciates her advice. She is even thinking about using Victoria’s hairdresser over the Christmas period.”

Prince William could attend FA Cup final after Harry’s wedding

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince William could attend the FA Cup final after watching his brother Prince Harry get married.
The 35-year-old royal heads to the showpiece event every year in his role as President of the Football Association, which sees him hand out the trophy to the winners, but his attendance is in doubt next year after Harry and fiancee Meghan Markle booked their wedding for the same date, May 19.
According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, Kensington Palace aides are said to be working with the FA to see if William – a big supporter of English football giants Aston Villa – can be at both events.
The football match is due to kick off at 5.30pm, and while the timings for Harry and Meghan’s big day are yet to have been revealed, their nuptials are expected to start earlier in the day.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “We have not gone into the timing of the wedding but made it clear that the wedding and the FA Cup final will not clash.”
One timing talked about as a potential for the 33-year-old royal and his 36-year-old bride-to-be’s nuptials is noon.
A Palace source told The Sun newspaper: “They were looking for a date that would work for as many friends and family as possible.
“We can’t confirm timings yet but are mindful it is Cup final day.”
The FA have admitted they are looking forward to the “special” day.
They said in a statement: “Everyone at The FA is delighted for HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with the announcement of their wedding at Windsor Castle next year.
“Saturday 19 May promises to be a wonderful day with such a special royal occasion being followed by English football’s showpiece event, the Emirates FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
“With millions coming together to watch both events at home and around the world, it will be a day to celebrate.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba thinks Meghan Markle will be a “role model for any woman”.
The ‘Luther’ actor has insisted the former ‘Suits’ star will be a “beacon” who can inspire people when she ties the knot with Prince Harry in May, and he thinks their union is “great”.
Speaking at a Prince’s Trust dinner at Buckingham Palace, he told Sky News: “Meghan Markle, as a person, regardless of her colour, is a role model. As a strong woman marrying into our Royal Family, she’s going to be a role model for any woman.
“The point is that of course our society is one of mixed heritage and it’s nice to see Meghan within the Royal Family. It’s great.
“And of course she’s going to be a beacon and of course she’s going to be someone that people look towards.
“Our country is built on our monarchy, we love our monarchy and it’s good to be connected.”

John Boyega jokes Princes were ‘cut out’ of Star Wars movie

OHMYGOSSIP — John Boyega has joked Prince William and Prince Harry were “cut out of” ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.
The 25-year-old actor – who portrays Finn in the sci-fi series – played a prank on national TV yesterday (14.12.17) when he pretended the royal pair were axed from the final edit of the motion picture.
When asked on ‘This Morning’ if the brothers played Stormtroopers in the hotly-anticipated movie, John replied: “They were but they were cut out of the film.
“I did personally apologise to them yesterday and said, ‘Sorry you were cut out of the film.’
“And Will was like, ‘I probably just need to work more on the skills.’ I was like, ‘Maybe bruv.’ ”
But it has since transpired he was playing tricks on the show’s viewers.
His rep told Mail Online: “I can confirm he was joking.”
Harry and William starred as Stormtroopers alongside the likes of Hollywood actor Tom Hardy and Take That singer Gary Barlow.
John previously admitted he was “sick” of trying to keep it a secret that William and Harry are in the motion picture.
He recently said: “I’ve had enough with those secrets. They came on set. They were there. I’m sick of hiding it. It think it was leaked, anyway.”
It comes after the ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ star admitted he’d grown tired of trying to deny the speculation surrounding the royal siblings’ involvement in the film.
He said: “There were images. Every time I get asked, I have to dodge it. I’m tired of dodging it. They were there. So was Tom Hardy.”
