Meghan Markle’s first royal gift

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle received an apron as her first official royal gift.
The former ‘Suits’ star – who is to marry Prince Harry on May 19 – was given the clothing item by a fan in Finland who had handed it to Prince William to pass on to his future sister-in-law.
According to the annual royal Gift Lists, published this week, The Duke of Cambridge was on a solo visit to the country when he received the gift “on behalf of HRH Prince Henry of Wales and Ms Meghan Markle”, and it was presented by an “individual”.
Other details about the apron are not known but it marks the first time Meghan has appeared on the audit.
Despite only being mentioned once, there are a number of gifts which she could make use of which were given to her future husband.
Harry received several his ‘n’ hers presents from a well-wisher while he was in Toronto for the Invictus Games in September, including two ice hockey pucks and leather passport holders.
The entry states he was presented with: “Two jackets, two leather holdall bags, two leather belt-bags, two leather zipped pouches, two leather passport holders, four leather wristbands, two ice hockey pucks, two baseball caps, two t-shirts and two sports polo shirts.”
William and Duchess Catherine’s kids, Prince George, four, and two-year-old Princess Charlotte, also did well out of a foreign visit when they received a whopping 59 gifts between them during their week-long visit to Poland and Germany.
The items included 17 soft toys, a dreamcatcher, there dresses and three toy trains.
Their mother was given a variety of presents over the year, including an oven glove, a cycling jersey and a hamper of local produce, while William was handed five Tintin figurines, framed photographs and two fabric gnomes.
Official royal gifts are allowed to be worn and used but the Royal Family do not pay tax on them, and the items are not considered to be their personal property.
What’s more, perishable gifts with a value of less than £150 can be given to charity or staff.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte love their Aston Villa kits

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince George and Princess Charlotte have matching Aston Villa kits.
The children of Prince William and Duchess Catherine – who are expecting a third child together – have their very own sports gear by their father’s favourite football team and love to wear them, according to nine-year-old Brian Mulonbi, who recently met Catherine during the couple’s official trip to Coventry.
The youngster said: “Kate told me that George and Charlotte love putting on Villa kits. I told her I am an Arsenal fan, so I don’t really like Villa kits.”
Whilst Taylor Mosley, also nine, said: “I said to them that I’m a Villa fan, because I know William is a Villa fan. He said he wants Sam Johnson to be our goalkeeper forever.”
Taylor added: “She said, ‘I have to be loyal to my husband!'”
William previously revealed that before Charlotte turned two last May, she was already a “very good footballer”.
Speaking at Wembley Stadium in north London to celebrate his 10 years as President of the Football Association, the Villa fan said: “She’s a very good footballer. You hold her hand and she kicks it. Very sweet.”
Catherine previously hinted that her favourite soccer team is Chelsea.
The Duchess bonded with one eight-year-old, named Rjay Bryan, over their support for the same club.
He explained: “We high fived because she supports Chelsea and I support Chelsea.
“I love people who support Chelsea.”
William admitted he thinks it’d be “fantastic” if his son follows him in supporting Villa.
Asked whether he’ll try to influence the team his son supports, he explained: “The responsible thing would be to say, to let [George] make his own mind up, but I think I might be quite biased.
“I haven’t quite worked out how to play that yet. Of course he can support whoever he wants, but if he supports Villa, it’d be fantastic. I’d love to go to the odd match with him in the future.
“It’ll probably end up being that [Princess] Charlotte is the Villa fan and George will go and support someone else!”

Unauthorised biography on Prince Charles to lift lid on household secrets

OHMYGOSSIP — An unauthorised biography on Prince Charles is set to lift the lid on household secrets.
Author Tom Bower is publishing a new tome about the first in line to the throne this March, and has claimed he has spoken to over 120 personnel as research for the book, which he claims allowed him to be “welcomed into the inner sanctum of Clarence House”.
And he claims readers will get an inside look at “a royal household rife with intrigue and misconduct”.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Bower said: “There are a lot of revelations. I was amazed how much new material there was. It’s got a lot of very, very new, untold information.”
However, despite his bold claims about the content of the book, insiders are said to be “very sceptical” as to whether Bower got such access.
One said: “Nobody on this side of the fence believes 120 people have spoken to him.”
A spokesperson for the palace commented on the fact they weren’t able to offer Bower a place to cover a day of the 69-year-old royal’s tour of Wales last July, which saw him given a guided tour of Royal Mint’s HQ in Glamorgan, South Wales.
A source claimed: “Bower asked permission in advance, but about two days before, they said it was full. Bower couldn’t believe they didn’t have space for one person behind a rope.”
But the palace said: “Bower was offered alternative engagements to visit – owing to there not being a space on that one occasion – which he declined.”
The book is set to document “Charles’ politics and his attitude towards his family” and how HRH – who is married to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – changed following the death of his ex-wife Princess Diana in 1997.
An insider concluded: “Until now all the books about Charles have been pretty reverential. They have all sought to get his approval. This treats him as a story, not as an object to be glorified.”

Duchess Catherine shows ‘caring’ side helping poorly pupil

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Catherine aided a young boy who looked like he was about to throw up.
The 36-year-old beauty came to the rescue of 10-year-old student Craig by providing him with a brown paper sickbag as he looked a little peaky as he met the Duchess of Cambridge at Coventry Cathedral on Tuesday (16.01.18).
Carole Flynn, one of the school’s mentor’s, told reporters: “Catherine came over and give him a sickbag, our little Craig. I think he was a little bit overcome.”
“He went quite pale. She came over to speak to him, and noticed he was not very well.
“She asked if he was OK. She bent down, and was concerned.”
Praising the “caring” brunette beauty – who is expecting her third child with husband Prince William – she added: “It was lovely of her. She really took time with him. You can tell she is a mum, and has got that caring side.”
Catherine – who already has four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte with William – was wearing the same bold pink Mulberry coat which she wore when she was pregnant with her daughter, with many royal fans taking to social media to guess that she is hinting at the sex of their unborn baby by dressing in the same item of clothing.
One wrote: “Pink for a girl perhaps?”
Catherine and William – who are due to welcome a boy or girl into the world in April – were visiting the city in the Midlands after it was named the UK’s capital of culture for 2021.

Larry King: Princess Diana would’ve loved Harry marrying Meghan Markle

OHMYGOSSIP — Larry King says Princess Diana “would’ve loved” Meghan Markle.
The 84-year-old TV and radio host – author of ‘People’s Princess: Cherished Memories of Diana, Princess of Wales, from Those Who …’ – says the late royal would be proud of her youngest son Prince Harry, 33, getting married to a “normal” girl.
Speaking on Sunday’s (20.01.18) airing of Game Show Network’s documentary ‘Cover Story: Meghan Markle – The Prince And The Game Show Model’, he says: “Princess Diana would’ve loved this. Would’ve loved this, and she wanted the monarchy to become more every day and having an interracial marriage in the monarchy of London is a great step forward.”
The flame-haired prince previously said his late mother would have approved of the former ‘Suits’ star.
The pair will tie the knot at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in spring, and Harry believes his beloved parent – who died in a car accident in Paris, France, in 1997 – would have been as “thick as thieves” with the brunette beauty.
Asked what Diana would have made of his bride-to-be, Harry replied: “Oh they’d be thick as thieves, without question.”
The former soldier admitted he felt his mother’s absence especially keenly during the landmark moments in his life, like the announcement of his engagement to the 36-year-old actress.
But Harry explained that because Meghan’s engagement ring features two stones from his mother’s collection, he can still feel Diana’s presence.
He explained: “I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends with Meghan.
“It is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news.
“But you know with the ring and with everything else that’s going on I’m sure she …”
But before the royal could complete his sentence, Meghan said: “She’s with us.”
Harry also believes his mother would have struggled to have contained her excitement at the announcement.
He said: “I’m sure she’s with us, jumping up and down somewhere else.”

Queen Elizabeth’s bridesmaids felt like The Spice Girls

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth II’s maid of honour says they felt like the Spice Girls in their bridesmaid dresses.
Lady Anne Glenconner still has her gown from the 91-year-old monarch’s wedding to Prince Philip in 1947 at Westminster Abbey in London.
Only two of them survive today, with Lady Pamela Hicks, another of the eight bridesmaids.
Speaking about the beautiful dresses, Anne said: “It’s very, very fragile. And it was all hand-embroidered.”
The girls also got to carry bunches of white orchids, lilies of the valley, gardenias and white roses at the ceremony, and being followed around by paparazzi made them feel like a member of 90s girl group.
She told The Smithsonian Channel: “We were rather like the Spice Girls.
“We were in all of the papers — the press followed us. We just felt like princesses.”
Elizabeth was able to take a close look at her dress when it went on show at Buckingham Palace back in 2007 to mark the couple’s diamond wedding anniversary.
Sir Hugh Roberts, director of the Royal Collection at the time, said: “This one is very personal to her and must bring back many extraordinary memories of that day. I think, as with everybody really seeing the dress again, she will have marvelled at the marvellous quality of the embroidery, and the marvellous way the dress was so particularly well suited to that great occasion.”
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip celebrated their anniversary on November 20.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will likely have small number of guests at wedding

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will likely have half as many guests as Prince William and Duchess Catherine at their wedding.
Royal expert Alastair Bruce has said that there is less “pressure” on the 33-year-old royal to invite extended members of the royal family because he’s not a “direct line of succession” like his elder brother, The Duke of Cambridge.
However, he added that it is up to the couple themselves how many people they’d like to attend their forthcoming nuptials at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, which can hold up to 800 guests.
Bruce told Town and Country magazine: “It’s very much a matter for the bride and the groom.
The thing about Prince Harry is that he’s not seen to be in the direct line of succession, and therefore the pressure on him to invite the long list of people, who had to be asked to the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is not present.”
Meanwhile, as their plans get underway, Prince William recently admitted Harry is yet to ask him to be his best man.
The 35-year-old prince is expected to take on the role at his brother’s wedding to Meghan Markle on May 19 but the flame-haired royal is clearly making his sibling wait to find out, and William joked it “could be a sensitive subject”.
He said: “He hasn’t asked me yet, just to clear that up. It could be a sensitive subject.”
William also admitted he is “trying to see what I can do” about being able to attend the FA Cup final in his role of President of the FA on the same date as his brother’s nuptials, when asked by former England star Rio Ferdinand if he will be able to go.
He made the revelation as he joined staff, volunteers, and supporters of charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) for a group discussion about their new Best Man Project initiative, to promote the idea men shouldn’t wait until a wedding to prove they are a great friend.

Prince Charlotte likes to show Prince George she is boss

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth says Princess Charlotte bosses her old brother Prince George around.
The British monarch let slip that the two-year-old royal very much runs the the Cambridge household, and likes to show her four-year-old sibling who is in charge at the home they share with their parents – Prince William and Duchess Catherine – whilst attending to duties at Sandringham House on Sunday (14.01.18).
Elizabeth, 91, was talking to 10-year-old Emily Clay, who she rewarded a signed copy of the bible for her hard work at school in religious studies.
The Eastern Daily Press reports that the young girl said she “looked after” her younger sister Hadleigh and their mother Ellen laughed: “It’s the other way around.”
The queen then smiled: “It’s like that with Charlotte and George.”
It comes after a source recently revealed that the toddler is “polite, but also fun and energetic”, and loves to engage in conversation with people.
A source said: “She’s very sweet and very confident – she’s always chatting away. She has beautiful manners.”
Charlotte was all smiles as she attended her first day of nursery a couple of weeks ago at Willcocks Nursery School in London, which her parents – who are currently expecting their third child – are said to have hand-picked because it will be an “ideal first step” in her education.
A source claimed: “They chose that nursery because they thought it would be an ideal first step for Charlotte’s education, and they were impressed by the team who work there.”
Catherine took pictures of Charlotte ahead of her first day and they were posted on the Kensington Palace official Twitter account.
The images were captioned: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share two photographs of Princess Charlotte at Kensington Palace this morning.
“The images were taken by The Duchess shortly before Princess Charlotte left for her first day of nursery at the Willcocks Nursery School.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle love binge-watching TV

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle love to binge-watch television together.
The royal couple are set to tie the knot in May this year, and it has now been revealed they love nothing more than cuddling up together on the sofa during the evenings and indulging in their favourite television programmes.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Harry, 33, and the former ‘Suits’ actress can’t get enough of shows like BBC’s ‘Feud’, ‘Spiral’ and ‘McMafia’, but that they are also huge fans of the popular streaming service Netflix.
An insider said: “They’re spending as much time as they can on their own together, with lots of casual suppers and TV.”
When they’re not watching their favourite shows together, Harry and 36-year-old Meghan also enjoy gorging on the finest dining London has to offer, with the pair often visiting Little House, in London’s Mayfair area, which requires a membership to get in.
One member stated the couple “share plates” of food, and added: “The lighting’s low and they don’t get bothered.”
The couple are set to marry on May 19 at St George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle, after announcing their engagement late last year with the release of several official photographs to commemorate the occasion.
Previously, body language expert Judi James claimed the photos showed how Prince Harry was “clearly openly happy” about his romance with the American actress.
She said: “Harry is clearly openly happy to let the rest of the world know how happy and in love he is and Meghan’s high levels of confidence seem to have allowed him to sidestep the normal formality of a royal romance and show a far more intimate side of their relationship.”
The love birds’ choice of date and venue for their marriage was announced by Kensington Palace in a statement in December.
It read: “His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018. Today’s announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.”

Prince Harry and Prince Charles clash over wedding plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Prince Harry has reportedly clashed with his father Prince Charles over some of the details surrounding his upcoming wedding.
The 33-year-old royal is set to marry his fiancée Meghan Markle in May this year, and whilst he is in the middle of planning the lavish event, he is reportedly refusing to accept help from his family, including his father, the Prince of Wales.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Prince Charles is keen for the engaged couple to hire is former valet, Michael Fawcett, as the wedding’s chief organiser, but the suggestion is said to have gone down like a “lead balloon” with Harry and Meghan.
A source told the publication: “The Prince of Wales thinks Michael is a wonderful events organiser. But the suggestion has created tensions.”
It comes after it was previously reported that the happy couple were opting for a “fun and quirky” ceremony, as neither of them want to follow the traditional “white and classic” wedding pitched to them by royal aides.
An insider said: “They want it to be fun and reflective of themselves as a couple and of their family and friends that will be there. It will still very much be a royal wedding – just not a traditional one.”
The couple will tie the knot on May 19 at St George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle, and were recently advised against holding their reception at Frogmore House, which is a mile away from the castle.
A senior royal source said: “They would have loved Frogmore for the party, particularly Meghan, who has called it ‘dreamy’, but they have been told St George’s Hall is far more practical.”
St George’s Hall is next to the chapel at Windsor Castle, but Frogmore was already said to be close to Meghan’s heart because they had their engagement pictures taken there and she took Harry for a romantic picnic at the venue last summer.

Princess Charlotte speaking Spanish

OHMYGOSSIP — Princess Charlotte is learning to speak Spanish.
The young royal – who is the daughter of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge – might only be two years old, but she’s already working on becoming bilingual, as her Spanish nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo is teaching her the language.
According to People magazine, the toddler – who started nursery school last week – is making huge strides in the language, and is already starting to pick up on the phrases used by her nanny.
Charlotte is said to be following in the footsteps of her four-year-old brother Prince George, who was able to count to 10 in the widely spoken language by the time he was three.
Speaking last year, their mother Duchess Catherine, 35, said: “She [Borrallo] said she is trying to teach Charlotte Spanish and said George can count up to ten in Spanish already.”
It comes after a source recently revealed that Princess Charlotte is “polite, but also fun and energetic”, and she loves to engage in conversation with people.
They added: “She’s very sweet and very confident – she’s always chatting away. She has beautiful manners.”
Charlotte was all smiles as she attended her first day of nursery last week at Willcocks Nursery School in London, which her parents – who are currently expecting their third child – are said to have hand-picked because it will be an “ideal first step” in her education.

Queen Elizabeth once subject of failed assassination attempt?

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth was once allegedly the subject of a failed assassination attempt in New Zealand.
The 91-year-old monarch was allegedly shot at during a failed attempt to take her life whilst in New Zealand in 1981, and a former police officer has claimed the event was covered up to “avoid jeopardising” future royal visits.
Tom Lewis, an ex-Dunedin detective sergeant, alleged to New Zealand news outlet Stuff that a troubled teenager – named Christopher John Lewis – shot at the Queen as she alighted her motorcade to greet a crowd gathered at the Otago Museum Reserve, and came yards from hitting her.
According to the publication, Tom also claims that the alleged incident was covered up by the police, who feared the close call would put a stop to royal visits to the country in the future.
Tom said: “You will never get a true file on that. It was reactivated, regurgitated, bits pulled off it, other false bits put on. The fact an attempted assassination of the Queen had taken place in New Zealand … it was too politically hot to handle.”
Christopher – who was 17 at the time of the alleged crime – took his own life in 1997 whilst awaiting trial for the murder of a young mother and the kidnapping of her child, and in a draft autobiography later published after his passing, he spoke of his meetings with government officials who swore him to silence.
He wrote: “If I was ever to mention the events surrounding my interview or the organisation, or that I was in the building, or that I was shooting from it – that they would make sure I ‘suffered a fate worse that death’.”
The teenager was taken to court for his alleged crime, but the charge was downgraded to possession of a firearm in a public place, for which he was jailed for three years.

Queen Elizabeth: The Coronation is ‘old fashioned’

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Elizabeth has revealed she believes the coronation ceremony is “old-fashioned”.
The 91-year-old monarch was just 25 when she became Queen after the death of her father George VI in 1952, and said that the traditional ceremony – which took place for her the following June – carried out to mark the start of a monarch’s reign is a “pageant of chivalry” which would be outdated in today’s society.
She said: “It’s the sort of, I suppose, the beginning of one’s life really as a sovereign. It is sort of a pageant of chivalry and old-fashioned way of doing things really. I’ve seen one coronation and been the recipient in the other, which is pretty remarkable.”
Queen Elizabeth also bemoaned the part of the ceremony in which the monarch travels across London in a golden horse-drawn carriage, as she revealed the journey is slow and uncomfortable.
Speaking of the ride in the four-tonne carriage – which travels from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey – she said: “Horrible. It’s not meant for travelling in at all. I mean, it’s only sprung on leather. Not very comfortable.
“Halfway around London. It can only go at a walking pace. The horses couldn’t possibly go any faster. It’s so heavy.”
During her coronation the Queen wore two crowns, the St Edward’s Crown, which she has never worn since, and the diamond-encrusted Imperial State Crown which she wears at formal occasions such as the opening of parliament when she delivers a speech outlining the government’s legislative plans.
And the monarch admits that the heavy headwear has it’s “disadvantages”.
Speaking for the BBC’s ‘The Coronation’ documentary which aired on Sunday (14.01.18), she said: “You can’t look down to read the speech, you have to take the speech up. Because if you did, your neck would break and it would fall off. So there are some disadvantages to crowns but otherwise they’re quite important things.”

Queen’s bra fitter loses royal warrant

OHMYGOSSIP — One of Queen Elizabeth’s lingerie suppliers have lost their royal warrant after revelations were made in a book.
Underwear firm Rigby & Peller have admitted they are “deeply saddened” by the decision to remove the title, which it held since 1960, but have opted against “elaborating further” about the announcement to “respect” the 91-year-old monarch.
They said in a statement: “The royal household warrants committee has decided to cancel the royal warrant granted to Rigby & Peller and Mrs June Kenton.
“Rigby & Peller is deeply saddened by this decision and is not able to elaborate further on the cancellation out of respect for Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Warrant Holders Association.
“However, the company will continue to provide an exemplary and discreet service to its clients.”
While the reason for the removal has not been confirmed by Buckingham Palace, it comes after director June Kenton’s book ‘Storm in a D Cup’ was published last year, in which she discusses her first meeting with the queen.
Following the royal warrant removal, the 82-year-old businesswoman told BBC News: “I had a letter, nothing else, just to say that the royal warrant was being withdrawn because they didn’t like what I had said in the book.
“I’ve never spoken about any customer who I fit in the fitting room, let alone the queen.
“I’m upset. I can’t be angry. I can’t be angry with anything to do with Buckingham Palace. I’m just upset that it happened.”
June and her husband Harold purchased Rigby & Peller for £20,000 in 1982, and they sold a majority stake in the company for £8 million in 2011.
