Paul Young defends Cheryl over copying claim

OHMYGOSSIP — Paul Young has defended Cheryl amid accusations she’s copied his song ‘Love of the Common People’.
The 62-year-old musician has spoken out after the former Girls Aloud star was met with a backlash for her track ‘Love Made Me Do It’, with critics claiming there is a striking similarity between the two songs.
However, Paul has played down the drama on social media, telling one of his Twitter followers: “I have to say, quite a few people have said this but I’m not getting it!”
Cheryl is listed as one of eight songwriters credited for the song, including Nicola Roberts and Natasha Bedingfield.
The brunette beauty is one of the UK’s best-known pop stars, but she recently admitted that her life could easily have gone down another route.
Cheryl – who was born in the city of Newcastle in North-East England – confessed: “One of my friends is now a primary school teacher, another friend moved away and had a family, but some just went down the line of drugs and unemployment. The area had the highest unemployment rate in the UK two years ago.”
Cheryl also claimed she would quit music if her big comeback proved to be a flop.
The 35-year-old star – who has a 19-month-old son called Bear with her ex-boyfriend Liam Payne – explained becoming mum has changed her outlook on life and has led her to view her career from a new perspective.
Speaking about her comeback single ‘Love Made Me Do It’, she said: “If it goes in at 80, it’s time for me to move on with my life. I’m not going to jump around working hard and spending time away from my son for that.”

Nicole Kidman was ‘lonely’ before meeting Keith Urban

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman was “very lonely” before she met Keith Urban.
The 51-year-old actress married Keith in 2006, five years after divorcing first husband Tom Cruise, and has said she felt so lonely before meeting the country star, that she made it her mission to “try and meet her partner”.
She said: “In my case, I went and met somebody and fell in love and had a whole different path in terms of what I wanted to do.
“I was very lonely and I didn’t want to be. So I went, ‘Okay, I’m going to try and meet my partner’, and that takes time. It can’t be working all the time and flitting around the world.”
The ‘Big Little Lies’ star now has daughters Sunday Rose, 10, and Faith, seven, with Keith, and couldn’t be happier with her “unbelievable blessings”.
Nicole – who is also mother to Isabella, 25, and Connor, 23, whom she adopted during her marriage to Tom – added: “I managed to meet a wonderful man and I now have two children out of that marriage which has given me incredible nourishment and unbelievable blessings to have them.
“It highlighted to me the idea that I needed to go and have more of a real life because I had an incredible artistic life, I just didn’t have the balance there.”
Nicole says she even considered quitting Hollywood when she settled down and started a family with Keith, but after her mother said she would “want to keep” her job, she realised she didn’t want to quit her career completely.
Speaking at her ‘Life in Pictures’ talk at Bafta in London, she said: “I’d had my daughter who’s now 10 and I was living in Nashville on a farm and I’d had the whole pregnancy growing vegetables.
“I said to my mother, ‘I’m done’. She was like, ‘Hmm, I think you’re going to want to keep your job’, and it was fantastic advice because as a woman, yes, you’re in this place now but it’s best to keep your toe in your career because I think you’re going to want to be able to go back to it.
“I’m so glad I have a very opinionated and strong mother who’s very wise. I bristle but I do listen to her.”

Stephen Fry: I’m very sensitive to criticism

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Fry is “very sensitive” to criticism.
The 61-year-old actor has admitted to having a love-hate relationship with social media and Twitter in particular, but Stephen also conceded that his sensitivity is “pathetic”.
Asked about his use of Twitter, Stephen – who has previously deleted his account before returning to the micro-blogging platform – told ‘The Graham Norton Show’: “I am on it but the difference now is that I don’t engage with it very much because of the comments and the unkindness. I am very sensitive. It’s pathetic after all these years, but I am.”
Stephen previously insisted he wished he could escape his own fame.
But the British actor – who starred alongside Hugh Laurie as part of the comedy double act Fry and Laurie – also conceded that his inability to turn down interviews has affected his acting career.
He explained: “People say I play myself. I think the trouble is I have no gift of being mysterious – I wish I could be like my friend Hugh, who just says no to interview requests. Hugh can do it, Clint Eastwood can do it, so when they are on screen you don’t know whether they are being themselves, because you don’t know who they are.
“Why can’t I do that? I can’t do it. I don’t have it in me. I do this w***y stuff day after day after day, being interviewed by you or, God help us, Pamela Stephenson or some other person, so when I play a character they go: oh, it’s just Stephen Fry in a beard. I’ve done that to myself, I think you could say.”

Mumford and Sons say new Delta defines career

OHMYGOSSIP — Mumford & Sons say their new album is the start of a new chapter.
The folk rockers – who consist of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane – have revealed that their new critically acclaimed album ‘Delta’ represents a defining moment in their musical career.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, keyboardist Ben said: “I think ‘Delta’ is as close to the heart of what Mumford & Sons is all about.
“Rather than being from something that we have been defined by, this feels like what we should be defined by because we’ve put a lot of effort into making this a statement.
“It feels closer than ever to us as people — and is us moving forward. It feels like a bit of a period that is about to begin.”
He explained that the group has also sought to improve and develop their songwriting, and he suggested they have matured together.
He added: “Our desire has always been to get better at what we do, with our music and our writing. We’ve changed quite a lot and I think we’ve grown up.
“We’ve grown together. We are on a wavelength. We are a hell of a lot less naive than we were ten years ago.”
Lead singer Marcus also echoed the sentiment that their new dark album – which deals with death, drugs, and depression – represents a new chapter and direction in their careers as they have gained confidence and wisdom with maturity.
He said: “I feel it’s the start of something, the next chapter maybe. Something happened while making Delta that gave us a new confidence of where we can go.”

Clean Bandit’s success is an ‘accident’

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit’s success is an “accident”.
The electronic band – which is made up of Grace Chatto and brothers Jack and Luke Patterson – rose to fame in 2014 and have already collaborated with huge names, including the likes of Jess Glynne, Demi Lovato and Zara Larsson, but Grace has now confessed that there was “never any plan” to be so successful.
Speaking about their fame, Grace told the Guardian newspaper: “There was never any plan, though. This was kind of an accident.”
The 32-year-old musician recalled a time when she “couldn’t even afford to get the tube” in London because she’d given all of her money to a radio plugger.
However, within just a few weeks, the band was massive, gaining traction on the radio and they were soon national – and then international – stars.
She said: “We couldn’t even afford to get the tube at that point, within a few weeks, Radio 1 was playing it and then, all of a sudden, all these lawyers and managers contacted us.”
The group have recently announced details of their second studio album, which features the likes of Ellie Goulding and Marina and the Diamonds.
But earlier this year, Clean Bandit revealed their ambition is to collaborate with Madonna after she lip-synced to their song ‘Solo’ on her Instagram account.
The British trio couldn’t believe it when they saw the video of their idol – who voiced the words to their track in celebration of LGBTQ + Pride Month – and Jack subsequently admitted they are now desperate to work with the American star.
He explained: “We couldn’t believe that. We’re big fans. We’d love to work with her … if she’s reading this.”

Clean Bandit scrapped Elton John collaboration from new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Clean Bandit’s collaboration with Sir Elton John didn’t have the right feel for their album.
The electronic dance group – made up of Grace Chatto, and sibling duo Jack and Luke Patterson – will release their second record ‘What Is Love?’ on November 30, and while they had teased a track with the ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker it hasn’t made the final cut.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Grace explained: “We realised there was a sound developing in a certain part of the Venn diagram of the album and we wanted to push that.
“It was kind of this tropical, plastic-y, mournful sound, whereas his songs were more from the ‘Rather Be’ world.”
The group – who have worked with the likes of Anne-Marie,
Zara Larsson, Craig David and Ellie Goulding on the record – previously praised the mood Elton brought to the studio.
Speaking earlier this year, Grace said: “He was so funny! He sat down at the piano and didn’t stop playing for the whole day, just constant ideas flowing. He was telling loads of jokes at the same time.”
Now, the cellist has opened up about another collaboration – ‘Solo’, which featured Demi Lovato on vocals – and admitted there was pressure from the label to remove a racy scene of Grace getting intimate with herself in the music video.
In the chat with the Guardian, she added: “I had kickback from the label saying: ‘What if children ask their parents what’s going on?’
“And I was like: ‘Well, that’s fine, if they do ask their mums, then they won’t find out from other things on the internet.’
“Those scenes were important for me to put in because seeing women masturbating is not something that happens in popular culture, unless it’s with a hetero male gaze.”

Abbey Clancy seeks to avoid fashion trends

OHMYGOSSIP — Abbey Clancy tries to avoid following “trends”.
The 32-year-old model has revealed she’s made a conscious decision to avoid chasing fashion fads, insisting she instead focuses on what makes her “feel good”.
Asked about the best piece of fashion advice she’s ever been given, Abbey shared: “Don’t invest in trends, invest in classic pieces, like a good leather jacket or a good blazer.
“I think trends change so quickly, I don’t think you should necessarily follow trends, you should wear what you feel good in, what makes you feel confident.”
Despite her glamorous appearance, the British beauty – who has kids Sophia, seven, Liberty, three, and ten-month-old son Johnny with husband Peter Crouch – has admitted to adopting a more “practical” approach to fashion over time.
Asked whether she prefers “glamming up or dressing down”, Abbey told the Belfast Telegraph newspaper: “It depends. I love to dress up. I’m from Liverpool, it’s in our blood to dress up, but now, having the kids and living in the country, I have to be practical.
“Doing the school run and going out for big walks in the countryside, which I love, and taking the kids to the park, I have to adapt my style – some of my Lipsy dresses would not be suitable for the park!”
Abbey also revealed she’s kept some of her vintage pieces for her daughter to eventually wear.
She said: “I’ve got loads of vintage clothes that I’ve collected over the years and I have also now started to keep all of my designer pieces or my one-off pieces for Sophia.
“I used to give all my clothes away to my friends or my sister and now I look at Sophia and she’s grown so fast – she’s only seven.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Coronation Street’s’ Catherine Tyldesley insists that fans will “love” her bestie Sair Khan on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’.
The 35-year-old former ‘Corrie’ star – who played Eva Price on the ITV soap from 2011 to 2018 – has revealed that she thinks her pal will do “really well” because she is “strong-minded and strong-willed”, and is always positive in a situation.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, Catherine said: “I think Sair will do really well, I see her as a ‘peace keeper’.
“She’s strong minded and strong willed, she always has a smile on her face, so I’m sure people will love her. I think she’ll do really well.”
The blonde beauty also confessed that she “could never” participate in the jungle competition because she thinks she’d be “terrible”, but admitted she enjoys watching John Barrowman, 51, and Anne Hegerty, 60, on the ITV jungle show.
She added: “I love watching ‘I’m a Celeb’. Hats off to anyone that takes part, I couldn’t do it, I’d be terrible!
“I think this year’s line-up is fab. At present everyone is really likeable and there’s a great balance and mixture of personalities.
“I adore John, we’ve never met but I’m pretty sure if we did he’d be my ‘spirit animal’.
“I’m also loving Anne and think the fact she’s even gone into that environment is testament to what an amazing, brave lady she is. I hope other people take inspiration from her.”

Harvey Virdi thinks her controversial Hollyoaks storyline ‘needs to be talked about’

OHMYGOSSIP — Harvey Virdi thinks her controversial ‘Hollyoaks’ storyline “needs to be talked about”.
The 43-year-old actress’ alter ego Misbah Maalik is at the centre of one of the show’s most contentious themes to date as her she and her family are targeted by a far-right group, and the star has confessed she thinks the topic needs to be discussed as not “many people are aware of it”.
In an interview with Digital Spy, she said: “I think we’re doing it because it’s something that needs to be talked about and I don’t think many people are aware of it – I know I wasn’t. I didn’t realise how prevalent it is.
“Finding out that these groups actively use social media to target vulnerable and lost people – and then try to influence the way they see the world – is actually quite scary. I think that’s why it’s really important for a show like Hollyoaks to try to raise that awareness.
“It’s a challenge because of the time we go out. We don’t air after the watershed. But it’s also exciting to explore something this serious in that 6.30pm timeslot, to make people aware.”
As for whether sensitive subjects should be off-limits for a soap opera to explore, Harvey believes that as long as the topic is explored with sensitivity then nothing should be out of the question.
She said: “Personally, I think the reason people become filmmakers, writers, actors or musicians is to try to explore these subjects.
“I don’t think there is a subject that is off-limits, but I think it’s a case of how it’s done and approached.
“If we all sat there and said these things are off-limits, nothing would ever be explored and we need to make people aware.”

James Jordan says Dancing on Ice has been the ‘hardest thing’ he’s ever done

OHMYGOSSIP — James Jordan admits ‘Dancing on Ice’ has been the “hardest thing” he has “ever had to learn”.
The 40-year-old dancing pro was announced for the series last month but despite the skills the star picked up on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ he has disputed claims that he’s at an advantage because he’s a dancer.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “I’ll be perfectly honest; at the beginning, I was petrified of it. I had all the hockey pads on and everything. I didn’t really enjoy it at the beginning.”
“I came home to [wife] Ola after training for the first couple of weeks, I was saying, ‘I’m really not enjoying it, it’s so difficult and I’m scared of falling’. I think that’s an age thing, as you get older you become more fearful of things.”
Although James struggled at the start of his training, he confessed that after he met his professional partner and spent more time “on the ice” he started to feel more confident about the competition.
He explained: “But the more time I spent on the ice, I started to be able to… I can go backwards now, do a few little turns and things like that.
“I met my partner, and since I’ve met my partner, it’s all become a little bit easier. I’ve put in a lot of hours.
“I’m one of these people who if I can’t do something straight away it really frustrates me. It has been really, really difficult.
“I’d actually say it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to learn. It’s so hard. It’s like having a couple of knives under your feet.”

Arlene Phillips finds Strictly return ‘hard’

OHMYGOSSIP — Arlene Phillips says returning to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ nine years after being axed from the judging panel is “hard”.
The 75-year-old choreographer was a judge on the BBC ballroom show for the first six series until she was sacked in 2009 and replaced with Alesha Dixon, 40, causing an ageism row, and now the star is returning this weekend to the dance competition because it’s where her “heart lies”.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Arlene said: “I did this because this is where my heart lies. I didn’t do this about resolving anything with ‘Strictly’.
“Was it hard for me to say yes? I’ve got to tell you, it was really hard. I’m not sure because I am supposed to be at an event anyway that day.
“But I am not sure, at the moment I haven’t replaced myself. So of course it would be very emotional to be there in the studio.”
The star is choreographing her own routine for Sunday night’s show (25.11.18) to David Bowie’s hit ‘Life On Mars’, and it is set to feature ten Candoco dancers alongside several eliminated ‘Strictly’ professionals, including Janette Manrara, 35, and 28-year-old Gorka Marquez.
Arlene was devastated when she was axed from the popular dancing competition and replaced with the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge, and the panel revamp sparked debate everywhere as the BBC received 951 complaints about its decision to replace her.
It was even discussed in the House of Commons by the Minister for Women Harriet Harman.
Speaking in an interview last year, Arlene said: “I’ve never really been given a real reason [as to why I was axed]. I don’t think I will ever know the answer.”

Dolce and Gabbana apologises for race row

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolce & Gabbana has apologised to Chinese customers for sparking a race row.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana – who are founders of the world-famous fashion house that has been making clothes for nearly 40 years – have recorded a message in Mandarin to apologise for the firm’s recent advertisement that offered instructions on how to eat typical Italian foods with chopsticks.
Domenico said: “Our families always taught us to respect different cultures across the world and because of this we want to ask your forgiveness if we have made mistakes in interpreting yours.”
Stefano said: “We want to say to all Chinese across the world and we are taking this apology and message very seriously.”
The scandal caused the brand to be pulled from a fashion event at the Shanghai Expo Centre.
In the video advertisement, a model dressed in a red gown tries to eat a large cannoli with her chopsticks.
It was posted on the brand’s official Weibo account – the popular Twitter-like social media platform in China – where the company has close to one million followers.
Social media users responded to the ad with accusations that Dolce & Gabbana was reinforcing cultural stereotypes and had no understanding of Chinese culture.
The row escalated after screenshots circulated of an Instagram user’s alleged chat with the designers, who supposedly used five offensive emojis to describe China and insulted the country.
Following the backlash, the company said that the account had been hacked and that the legal office was investigating the matter.

Stephen Graham and Thomas Turgoose star in new film

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘This Is England’ duo Stephen Graham and Thomas Turgoose star in a new short film for the smartphone brand Huawei.
The former ‘This Is England’ co-stars – who appeared in director Shane Meadows’ original 2006 movie as Sean and Combo respectively and reprised the roles in three TV miniseries between 2010 and 2015 – have appeared in a new tongue-in-cheek campaign by the smartphone brand, named ‘Recharge Your Mates’, which shows that ‘battery strife’ affects most of the UK population.
The tech brand completed their own research and found that one in five Brits were unhappy and stressed when their phone died, and they weren’t able to charge it anywhere.
The film sees Graham in an East London Snooker Hall who becomes frustrated that his phone has died, until a mysterious hooded figure enters (Turgoose), who is actually there to recharge his phone and save the day, using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro’s charging capabilities.
Huawei Director of Marketing, UK and Ireland, Justin Costello said: “We all know the perils of running out of a phone battery, and battery strife is an issue suffered by the vast majority of our nation.
“At Huawei this what we mean by meaningful innovative technology to solve problems like this, which is exactly what we’ve done with the new Huawei Mate 20 Pro – not only does it have incredible battery life, it also gives you the power to charge another phone wirelessly using its unique reverse wireless charging feature.
“With Christmas being one of the most sociable times of year, there is all the more scope for running out of battery, which is why we’ve launched the Recharge Your Mates campaign, so we can charge the nation when they need it most.”
Overall, three quarters of smartphone users said they’ve run out of phone battery and not been able to charge it immediately, with respondents feeling ‘disconnected’ when their phone ran out of power.

John Legend cooked a ‘dope’ macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving

OHMYGOSSIP — John Legend cooked a “dope” macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving on Thursday (22.11.18).
The 39-year-old musician – who has kids Luna, two, and six-month-old Miles with his model wife Chrissy Teigen – has revealed that he only had one job to do on the big day, but John is proud of his efforts.
Alongside a picture of his tasty-looking dish, John wrote on Twitter: “My only job for Thanksgiving dinner was this Mac & cheese. I won’t say how good it was (it was dope tho) but it disappeared fast. (sic)”
John also pointed his followers in the direction of the recipe he used for this year’s Thanksgiving meal.
He said: “My recipe is on Martha Stewart’s site. https://www.marthastewart.com/348566/john-legends-macaroni-and-cheese …. but double the seasoning and use whole milk. They made it healthier than I do. (sic)”
John and Chrissy are both known for giving their Twitter followers a behind-the-scenes insight into their lives.
In fact, Chrissy recently revealed sees the micro-blogging platform as her “connection to the world”.
She shared: “People are like, ‘Why do you have time for all of these strangers?’ But that is my outside connection to the world.
“I genuinely love doing it. I always have. I enjoy talking to people and feeling like I know them and having this conversation.”
Chrissy briefly abandoned Twitter after she received threats following a message she posted about gun control.
But the American star still has no intention of biting her tongue on issues she feels passionately about.
She said: “Our lives would be so much easier if we didn’t dabble in politics at all, but I don’t want that kind of life. For us, we are willing to take that risk, because we believe in it so passionately.”

Harry Judd’s lonely wife

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Judd’s wife feels “lonely” when he’s on tour.
The McFly drummer and his spouse Izzy have children Lola, two, and Kit, 14 months, together and the 34-year-old musician admitted she finds it tough having to fill the “void” when she doesn’t have the ‘All About You’ hitmaker around to help.
She said: “He’s just got back after such a long time on tour and you realise how lonely it is and all the things he actually does around the house.
“I admire parents who are doing it on their own.
“I definitely feel Harry’s void when he’s not around.”
But Izzy is able to seek advice and support from Georgia Jones and Giovanna Fletcher, who are married to Harry’s bandmates Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.
She said: “I was chatting to Georgia and G and we agreed that the most important advice is to trust your own instincts and try not to do what everyone else says you should do.
“Trust that you know your baby and believe in yourself.”
And the group love to get their children together for playdates.
Izzy said: “It’s surreal seeing all the little ones together. Lola’s the only girl but she fights for her place.”
Izzy has struggled with anxiety in the past and admitted her problem returned after the birth of her second child.
She told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “When Lola was born, it was just a relief she was here after going through a miscarriage and everything else. My anxiety was good in terms of the fact I only had to focus on her and her needs.
“I wasn’t able to look too far ahead because I was just taking each day.
“When Kit was born, my anxiety began to creep back in because I felt overwhelmed by being responsible for two children.
“When he was eight weeks old, he had bronchitis and was in hospital. I went back to doing more mindfulness because it helped me before and has definitely helped me since having kids.”
