Martin Freeman didn’t have ‘fun’ filming with Amanda Abbington

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Freeman has admitted filming ‘Sherlock’ with former partner Amanda Abbington wasn’t “much fun”.
The 47-year-old actor split from the actress after 16 years together in August and though he still thinks the 45-year-old star is a “fantastic actor”, he found it tough shooting scenes as married couple John and Mary Watson quite difficult when they were in the midst of their problems.
He said: “She was and remains one of my favourite actors, I think she’s a fantastic actor.”
Asked how it was to work with her on ‘Sherlock’, he said: “Awful! No, it was good, I really love working with her.
“By the time of the last ‘Sherlock’ that we’ve done we were sort of in the midst of splitting up, so that wasn’t that much fun, but when we weren’t in that midst it was great.”
The former couple have children Joe, 13, and Grace, 10, together, and the ‘Hobbit’ star thinks they are managing to co-parent “pretty well”.
He told ‘Desert Island Discs’: “I always knew that people who split up can be civil and do it for the kids, it’s all right.
“I didn’t only want to be civil for the children, I wanted to be civil for us, because when you’ve loved someone for that long and they have been such an integral part of your life, what – that is supposed to not count now?
“That just didn’t make sense to me so we do we get on well and I think the kids see us getting on well, they are just loved by the same two people in different geography now.”
Martin praised the “rare” chemistry he shares with ‘Sherlock’ co-star Benedict Cumberbatch but claimed some fans feel “betrayed” that they haven’t taken their friendship further.
He said: “Probably nothing I’ve done, maybe nothing I ever will do, has resonated with certain parts of the world’s population the same way ‘Sherlock’ has, it just hit a lot of buttons for people.
“The reaction can be quite intense. So by the time we filmed the last ones there were some fans who were so adamant that John and Sherlock were gay, they knew it and they knew that Steven (Moffat) and Mark (Gatiss) were going to write an episode where we held hands off into the sunset together, and so when that didn’t happen there was a chunk pf people going, ‘This is betrayal’.
“Put it this way, they invest a lot in it and up to a certain point, that is delightful. Beyond a certain point, it’s more challenging.”

Taraji P. Henson’s acting dreams

OHMYGOSSIP — Taraji P. Henson always knew she wanted to be an actress.
The 48-year-old actress never had second thoughts about her chosen career path, particularly because she didn’t want to send the wrong message to her child.
Asked if she ever thought of looking for a stable job, she said: “Never. Time was ticking. I was in my 20s and you’re fearless then. I was waiting for my chance. I never turned an audition down. I didn’t care what it was for, I was just hungry. When my dad was alive, he wouldn’t allow me to quit. It wasn’t an option. Once I had my son, I realised if I quit, I’m teaching him to quit. There were times I got scared and my dad was there to champion me, like, ‘Hang in there, because you don’t see what I see, it’s coming.’ He’d seen my plays, he knew my talent. My mom and my aunt would send me money. There was no space to quit.”
And the ‘Empire’ star – who plays matriarch Cookie Lyon in the drama series – also opened up about feeling threatened when a man decided to “hit” on her during a flight.
She said: “A man hit me on the plane the other day. They think they know you and come and grab you. But Cookie is a character and I’m Taraji so I’m like, ‘Please don’t touch me’. I didn’t want to be that person but now my security flies with me in first. ”
The ‘Hidden Figures’ star has taken some time to find global fame and she admitted it’s “crazy” to have reached the successes she now has.
She told Marie Claire magazine: “It’s crazy. I’ve been working so much and then it’s like … Time magazine! My grandmother is 94 and about to witness her granddaughter getting a Hollywood star. That’s history!”

Zoe Saldana delighted James Gunn has been reinstated

OHMYGOSSIP — Zoe Saldana is “happy” James Gunn has been reinstated as director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.
The 40-year-old actress is “so proud” of Disney for backtracking on their previous decision to axe the filmmaker from the franchise over controversial jokes he made almost a decade ago resurfaced on Twitter and thinks the company have set a great example.
She said: “I’m proud of him. I’m happy that he’s coming back. I’m so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important.”
Zoe is also impressed with the way Disney has embraced representation and is delighted with the success of both ‘Captain Marvel’ – which features Brie Larson in the lead role – and ‘Black Panther’.
She told Entertainment Tonight: “I loved [‘Captain Marvel’] so much. I’m so proud of her, I’m so proud of Marvel Studios/
“I’m also so happy that the public received it and they really supported it, because that was the main part of this whole equation. We need to go and support these movies with female leads in order for our corporations to understand that there is business in investing in female narratives.
“It’s better representative of what America is today. It’s no longer that shift of, ‘Oh, can you allow this to happen?’ It’s more like you have to do it because if you don’t you’re neglecting 49 percent of your audience.”
After James was rehired earlier this month, the director took to Twitter to share a heartfelt message of thanks for the support he’d received.
He posted: “I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months. I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be.
“I deeply appreciate Disney’s decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all. I have been, and continue to be incredibly humbled by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love to you all.”

Christine + The Queens thinks music is becoming more progressive

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine & The Queens’ Héloïse Letissier believes pop can tackle LGBTQ subjects “without being questioned”.
The 30-year-old singer – who identifies as pansexual, meaning she is attracted to a person regardless of their sex or gender identity – feels the music industry has always been progressive but she thinks it’s becoming “more nuanced” and more able to discuss in depth issues surrounding sexuality and gender.
In an interview with Music Feeds, the ‘5 Dollars’ hitmaker said: “What is good is that they’re not really new conversations that are happening. When you think of like gender fluidity and exploration, we’ve had Prince and Madonna and stuff.
“But I think also what’s good is that it gets more nuanced as it goes. Janelle Monáe can talk about pansexuality and so can I.
“People actually asked me if I invented the word and I said ‘No! I didn’t invent it but you can just read on it’. It’s good that now pop can tackle those subjects without being questioned.
The ‘Christine’ singer went on to explain that although she’s glad artists are taking it upon themselves to discuss issues such as gender identify and feminism, she’s wary of these issues becoming ” fashionable in some way”.
She said: “Things are happening slowly but surely, and are getting more welcoming. But at the same time, I’m just being wary of it being branded at some point or it being fashionable in some way.
“Is it becoming too glossy? Is it being digested in a way that is profitable? Because if so, that’s a problem.
“I’m always more hopeful about the younger generation of performers like Billie Eilish or Lorde, who take feminism and address it really simply and normally.
“The newest generation are going to be really wonderful for that. They’re going to have conversations that are not shaped by profit. It’s refreshing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Keith Richards has admitted it is a “big disappointment” to be cancelling the Rolling Stones’ North American tour.
The ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ hitmakers announced on Saturday (30.03.19) they will be postponing a string of shows as 75-year-old frontman Sir Mick Jagger is in need of medical treatment, and the singer’s bandmate has sent his support to his pal while promising fans they will be back on the road soon.
Keith, also 75, tweeted: “A big disappointment for everyone but things need to be taken care of and we will see you soon. Mick, we are always there for you!”
Ronnie Wood has thanked fans for their messages following the news and also confirmed the group are hoping to be on stage again in the near future.
He tweeted: “We’ll miss you over the next few weeks, but we’re looking forward to seeing you all again very soon. Here’s to Mick ~ thanks for your supportive messages it means so much to us (sic)”
Meanwhile, Mick has admitted he is “devastated” to be “letting down” the band’s fans while he is treated for the unknown condition.
He posted on Twitter: “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this.
“I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”
As part of their North American stadium tour, the Rolling Stones – which also includes Charlie Watts – were set to kick off their run of shows in Miami on April 20, before finishing the 17-date run at Canada’s Burl’s Creek Event Grounds on July 29. There were also dates set for Chicago’s Soldier Field stadium as well as two shows at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. The band also were going to perform in Denver, Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Massachusetts and Foxborough.
Fans have been asked to hold onto their tickets as the band work out when they can reschedule the postponed dates for.

Stephen Graham’s near miss with police

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Graham was almost mistaken for a real criminal while filming ‘Line of Duty’.
The 45-year-old actor portrays villain John Corbett in the fifth season of the police corruption drama and had to make a quick retreat back to set while shooting a scene in Ireland that involved carrying “machine guns”.
He said: “There was one bit when we’d just committed a robbery and we shot off, and we were actually driving through the streets of Belfast with our balaclavas and machine guns in the car and we realised we’d better get back to set! So that was quite funny, but wouldn’t have been too funny if people had seen! It was all a lot of fun; it was a lovely environment to work in.”
Showrunner Jed Mercurio approached the ‘This Is England’ star for the role and admitted it was a “no brainer” for him to sign up.
He said: “I’m a fan of the show anyway; I’ve watched it from the beginning. It was really nice, he just phoned me and said: ‘I’m writing this character which I think you’d be great for, I’d like you to have a look at it, it would be a pleasure to work with you, I like your stuff and I’m a fan of your work and it would be really nice to have you on board and become a member of the family.’
“Which was a lovely thing for someone to say, a writer of his calibre and somebody who I admire as a writer and a creator.
“To say that they had me in mind when they were writing it is a hell of a compliment. So it was a no brainer. I said: ‘Yeah sure, I’d love to!'”
And Stephen didn’t even care how big the role was when he was offered it, he just wanted to be involved in the show.
He added: “I was already doing it, even if I was only in five pages! But I read it and I thought even in the first four or five pages that I could see me doing this, this is juicy.”

Caprice bans sons from showbiz careers

OHMYGOSSIP — Caprice has “banned” her sons from following in her footsteps and launching showbiz careers.
The 47-year-old model – who has five-year-old Jax and Jett with husband Ty Comfort – wants her boys to lead a more stable life and is determined to keep them out of the spotlight.
She said: “They’re the lights of my life – nothing in this world can make me happier than my boys. But I’m not sharing them with the world, I don’t show their faces on social media or expose them.
“They won’t be going into the spotlight, it’s banned. The showbiz world is an unstable business and it’s hard on the ego. You’ve got to be mentally strong. It’ll be school, university, and then law school for them.”
Caprice – who struggled to conceive and eventually fell pregnant at the same time as her surrogate – wishes she could have had more children.
She added: “Now that I have two children, I wish I could have had seven. I love being a mum more than anything. We went skiing as a family recently and I was standing on a mountain, watching my kids ski with Ty and I just thought, ‘This is when I’m at my happiest.”
While Caprice is very happy with Ty, she wishes she’d settled down earlier in her life.
She told Closer magazine: “If I could tell my teenage self two things, the first would be, ‘You shouldn’t have dated some of the guys you dated’. And the second would be to have children earlier. I should have started looking for Mr. Right at around 32 or 33 instead of going out with millions of toyboys then only starting to look properly at 39. Ty is my best friend in the whole world, I love caring for him and hanging out with my man. He’s my favourite person.”

Louise Redknapp felt like a ‘failure’

OHMYGOSSIP — Louise Redknapp felt like a “failure” when her marriage ended.
The 44-year-old singer split from football pundit Jamie Redknapp – the father of her sons Charley, 14, and 10-year-old Beau – in 2017 and despite her sadness at their split, she can acknowledge that much of their relationship was “incredible”.
She said: “Well, yes, you feel a bit of a failure. For 21 years, I was in a secure marriage. You know, through good times and bad times. A lot of those 21 years were incredible. And there were moments in those 21 years when I was sad. Not due to Jamie. Most of it due to me.”
The ‘Stretch’ singer previously admitted she felt she’d “lost herself” in her marriage but she’s come to realise that wasn’t Jamie’s fault as she should have spoken up to say she was no longer happy being a stay-at-home parent.
She told You magazine: “Who gets a second chance, you know? I just didn’t think it would ever happen for me. I am pleased I did Strictly, because without it I think I wouldn’t have had the courage. Any woman who’s hit her 40s will understand that.
“But I don’t blame Jamie. I wish, three years ago, I’d been able to just speak up. For a long time it was easy to blame him.
“But actually, in the past six months, I’ve thought, you know what, it was down to me to say, ‘Something’s not right. My self-esteem is really struggling. I’ve got no passion. I love my kids more than anything in the world. I love what I do, too, and I haven’t quite got the guts to go out and try to do it again.’
” I just didn’t speak up. I don’t blame anyone else for that. I wish I’d just gone, ‘Right, the kids are getting older, and I love my job and I’m going to give it a real go, and Jamie, if you don’t like it, tough. But if you do like it, let’s talk about it.’ ”
Louise is relaunching her pop career and admitted she is “really scared” about the future, but just wants to make the most of the opportunities that come her way.
She admitted: “I’m really scared. I’m scared about the future. Jamie and I have got to a really positive place with each other. But I don’t know what life is going to be like.
“I’m nervous about work and career and all those things, because I’m not young. And people are judgmental. The music industry has changed so much. I’m just now trying to understand, you know, iTunes and Spotify. It would be really nice for the music to do well enough to be able to do a tour next year.
“I hope people are going to like it but I’m well aware that it doesn’t always work out. So I’m just going to give it what I’ve got. I never thought this would be an option for me.”

Jay Ellis praises mentor Tom Cruise

OHMYGOSSIP — Jay Ellis has praised his “mentor” Tom Cruise.
The 37-year-old actor will appear opposite the screen legend in long-awaited sequel ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and he feels the 56-year-old star has done everything possible to make sure the movie will “exceed everyone’s expectations”.
He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “It’s going to be an amazing movie
“Tom is that dude…Tom is literally going to make sure that we go there, and that this exceeds everyone’s expectations. We’ve been filming for about six months now, and we’ve got a few more to go. It’s been an amazing ride.
“Tom’s been a mentor, Joseph Kosinski, our director’s, been amazing, Jerry Bruckheimer’s been amazing, the whole cast.”
And the ‘Insecure’ star promised the movie will “blow people’s minds”.
He added: “I’m going to tell you right now, we are literally going to blow people’s minds.”
Meanwhile, Val Kilmer recently promised the sequel will be a “great film” and he had had a wonderful time shooting with his old friend.
He said: “It will be a great film, I promise.
“This time around had me laughing with Tom like a high schooler. He’s so funny. I hope he’s saved the world enough to take a decade and re-establish himself as a great comedian as he has it in him.
“And [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer is exactly the same as 30 years ago when I met him. So humble and attentive and focused and excited just to be on a set.”
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is set 34 years after the original hit the big screen and will focus on modern drone warfare and explore the end of the dogfighting era.
Tom and Val are back as their characters from the original, Maverick and Iceman, while Miles Teller is to play the son of Goose – Maverick’s wingman who was played by Anthony Edwards in the original movie.

Ava Max’s new album will be ‘unapologetically pop’

OHMYGOSSIP — Ava Max says her new album will be “unapologetically pop”.
The 25-year-old singer – who has named her fans Avatars – reached number one in the UK and more than 14 countries around the world with the pop song ‘Sweet But Psycho’, which was released in August, and says her new album will have a similar sound.
Ava told the Wind City Times: “I am straight up, unapologetically pop. The album that is coming out this year is straight on what you expect with more ‘Psychos’. If you are not expecting more ‘Psychos’ then I don’t know.”
“It’s definitely more sonically the same.”
But Ava is proud that all her songs mean more than being just about “partying”.
she added: “The message is very strong and empowering pop songs. There will be songs that are a little bit more emotional. Most of it is all upbeat, pop anthems. They all stand for something. I don’t have one song about partying.”
The singer admitted she never expected ‘Sweet But Psycho’ to be such a major hit so quickly.
She said: “I didn’t know how fast this would take off because it went first in Sweden and went number one. It was released the same day globally. It first was big in Europe in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Now it is rising in the United States and Australia.
“I feel globally it’s been a remarkable success story. People are relating to it.”

Vampire Weekend find success bizarre

OHMYGOSSIP — Ezra Koenig finds Vampire Weekend’s continued success “bizarre”.
The ‘Harmony Hall’ hitmaker thought it was “improbable” anyone could like his group when they first started out, so is amazed they have kept their fans for over 10 years.
He admitted: “Vampire Weekend is such a bizarre phenomenon.
“We started out with songs called Mansard Roof, doing college dress-up, and it was improbable anybody would like that. I imagined people finding it curious, but to stick with it for a decade? It’s bizarre.”
The group’s upcoming new album, ‘Father of the Bride’ is the first mate without Rostam Batmanglij and though he and Ezra are “fans” of one another, he couldn’t commit to the group.
Ezra explained to Sunday Times Culture magazine: “We were each other’s first fans,” the frontman says sweetly in a slurred East Coast drawl as we talk in a London hotel. “But he was clear Vampire Weekend was one of multiple projects for him.”
While the record will be the group’s first album in six years, the 34-year-old frontman insisted there isn’t anything particularly negative about it taking so long.
He said: “Well, this wasn’t a six-year arduous journey. The simplest way to put it is: three years not working, a year of dipping my toes in, two of working really hard.”
Last year, Ezra and his partner, Rashida Jones, welcomed their first child into the world and the singer admitted that was one of the reasons why the record was delayed.
He said: “I’m still getting used to talking about family. We’d prefer never to talk about it, but, without detail, yes, this album could have come out sooner if I cared less about spending time with my family.”
But the ‘A-Punk’ hitmaker insisted the title of the record isn’t a reference to his personal life.
He said: “I came up with it too early for that, but I was clearly looking to adult themes. Even though I didn’t imagine when I chose the title that I’d be a father by the time it came out, I certainly wanted to look at responsibility and relationships, and those things happened in my life, too.”

Jamie Dornan and Amelia Warner welcome their third child

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Dornan and Amelia Warner have welcomed their third child.
The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ star’s wife Amelia made the announcement about their new arrival to mark Mother’s Day in the UK on Sunday (31.03.19).
Sharing a picture of three sets of shoes, confirming she has given birth to her third child, she captioned it: “So proud of these three glorious girls, it’s an honour being their mummy … feeling incredibly lucky today #happymothersday (sic)”
Meanwhile, Jamie – who has Dulcie, five, and Elva, three, with Amelia – previously said his role as a husband and father is “all encompassing”.
He said: “When I’m at home all I am is a husband and father and that is all encompassing. It’s the role I take most seriously in life … It’s been a big adjustment and it’s definitely harder and you get less time to yourself, but human beings are very good at adaptation. You have to just go with it and accept less sleep and accept less time in your hands and accept less reading of books and washing and all the usual things you do in a day.”
And Jamies feels “a healthy and lovely duty” to provide for his children.
He said: “I feel a healthy and lovely duty to provide for my kids, and I really like it. It suits me. Making my kids happy is a good thing for my wife and me to be driven by … We get frustrated at times, usually when travelling with the kids, but we’d never let anything boil and become a thing. We know couples who are plate-throwers, but that’s just not us. I’m glad it’s not us – plates are expensive … Certainly there’s never a day that I don’t tell her I love her.”

Kim Kardashian West won’t launch political career

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Kardashian West has no plans to launch a political career.
The ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ star thinks being President would “probably be the most stressful job in the world”.
Asked if she wanted to run for president, she told the New York Times newspaper: “No, I don’t think so. It would be probably the most stressful job in the world, and I don’t think that’s for me.”
Kim has been vocal about her political opinions as of late and she recently called for an end to the death penalty, appealing for “better solutions” that put “fairness and justice” first.
She wrote on Twitter: “For the last year, I have immersed myself in learning about the criminal justice system. I visited prisons, met with formerly incarcerated people, and helped with cases of individual injustice – including two death penalty cases. I have met with and am very supportive of Governor Newsom and his decision to help bring an end to the California Death Penalty. Racial bias and unfairness run deep throughout the justice system but especially when it comes to the death penalty. And we should not be okay with the risk that an innocent person could be executed. I hope we can turn toward better solutions that focus more on healing victims of trauma and prioritising fairness and justice.”
Kim – who has children North, five, Saint, three, and 14-month-old Chicago with husband Kanye West and is expecting another via a surrogate – previously visited US President Donald Trump and helped 63-year-old Alice Marie Johnson get released on Clemency after she was sentenced to life without parole for a first time non-violent drug offence.
And earlier this month, Kim agreed to pay five years of rent for Matthew Charles after he was denied housing upon release from prison, where he had been serving 20 years for a non-violent drug offence.

Dev Patel likes challenging roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Dev Patel likes “challenging” roles.
The ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star will pick his next movie based on how much of a challenge he thinks it will be for him.
Asked how he chooses his roles, he told the New York Times newspaper: “Something that feels like a challenge. I know it sounds so cliché, but it’s the truth. With ‘Green Knight,’ I had read the script, and what was so alluring was I couldn’t quite quantify what it made me feel – but it made me feel a lot, and I was slightly terrified of it. Then I got that amazing call after I’d met David that he wanted me for the lead. And after that initial excitement, you’re just drenched with fear of, now I have to actually do this. That’s kind of what happens with everything. It’s eagerness, curiosity and excitement, followed by fear and how the hell am I going to get through this?”
Meanwhile, Dev previously admitted he found his heartthrob status “very overwhelming” because he was an “awkward outsider” growing up and never had a girlfriend when he was in school.
He said: “It’s very overwhelming and strange because I’ve always been the dude that never got a girlfriend in school. I was kind of the awkward outsider. So not that it’s changed much but I’m still the same. I feel the same … Isn’t that insane! I feel so overwhelmingly grateful. I don’t know why I’m the recipient of so much luck and love. But it’s beautiful. It’s amazing. I’m just grateful.”
And Dev admits a lot has changed since he starred in his breakout role in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ nearly ten years ago and quipped he would like to “go back to that place of innocence”.
He said: “I was beautifully unaware of everything back then and now I’ve come through it a couple times. It’s more complex. It’s more emotions in my head. I actually would like to go back to that place of innocence.”

Issa Rae’s co-stars confirm engagement

OHMYGOSSIP — Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure’ co-stars have confirmed her engagement.
The 34-year-old actress sparked speculation she was set to tie the knot with Louis Diame when she was pictured with a huge ring in Essence magazine and now Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji have revealed they couldn’t be happier for her.
Jay told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “We all found out in different ways because we’re all on different text chains. We talk at different times, so we all found out at different times in different ways.”
Yvonne added: “We’re very excited for her… The reaction was all the same, like, ‘You out here in these streets getting married, boo!?’ That was the reaction.”
Meanwhile, Issa recently admitted she has always wanted people to “like her] mind” after learning when she was much younger that she wasn’t the “type” that guys she was attracted to were looking for.
She said: “As corny as it sounds, I want you to just like my mind.
“I think a part of it just came from figuring out that the guys I like, I’m not their type. Learning that early on made me realise there’s no point in valuing the physical, because it wasn’t going to get me anywhere. So what can I control, and what can I bring to the table? How can I be valued in this way?”
But the actress also admitted she was glad things never “worked out” with the “cool guys” she was attracted to when she was younger.
She explained in an interview: “I’m glad a lot of it didn’t work out. I was really into cool guys. I was into very high school muscular, college muscular dudes. I was just like, If I’m attracted to you, then what’s the problem?”

Maisie Williams made wrong predictions

OHMYGOSSIP — Maisie Williams unsuccessfully predicted who would survive the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’.
The 21-year-old actress – who plays assassin Arya Stark – sat down with her mum one evening before she received her scripts for the eighth and final series of the HBO fantasy drama to write down what they expected to happen in the last six episodes, but neither of them made the right calls.
she recalled: “I said, ‘Let’s predict the final series. You call who you think is going to be alive and who you think is going to be dead. So will I.’ And we did. And we were both wrong.”
Her co-star, Joe Dempsie – who plays Gendry, the bastard son of the late King Robert Baratheon – admitted one of the first things he did on receiving his scripts was to check to see if he’d won, died or survived.
He admitted: “At the top of every script there is a cast list for every character involved in that episode. A few of us were tempted to check if we were in the last one.”
And asked his fate, he simply said: “Look, Gendry’s the last surviving blood Baratheon. He’s got to have a pretty strong claim. But I don’t even trust the fact that I have the answers in my brain. It feels like you’re walking around with a secret that the whole world wants to know.”
But Kit Harington, whose alter ego Jon Snow is one of the favourites to end up on the iron throne, didn’t look at his scripts until the full cast gathered for a read through, and he delighted them with his reactions.
Emilia Clarke, who plays his on-screen lover, Danerys Targeryen, told the Sunday Times magazine: “Kit hadn’t even looked at the scripts before the read-through.
“He didn’t want to know, so when we all read it out loud, all of us together probably for the first time since series three, Kit’s reactions were insane. He was just gawping.”
The 32-year-old actor may have been gripped to the final scripts but he admitted he would have “sneered” at the idea of watching the show when it first began if he hadn’t been cast.
Kit said: “Had I not been in it, and someone had said, ‘Why don’t you watch that?’ I’d have said, ‘Dragons?’ I would have sneered at it.”
Kit – who is married to former co-star Rose Leslie – is proud of the “skill” he has developed in talking about the show without giving away any spoilers.
He said: “It’s something I pride myself on. Exciting people about it but not telling them anything is a skill that we’ve all developed in the ‘Thrones’ cast.”
