Lisa Faulkner ‘didn’t expect’ to like EastEnders stint

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Faulkner was “scared” about starring in ‘EastEnders’.
The 46-year-old actress had a great time in Albert Square portraying James Willmott-Brown’s (William Boyde) daughter, Fi Browning, on the BBC One soap in 2017, but admits she “didn’t expect to like” her stint on the show.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Lisa said: “I have to say I loved it. I didn’t expect to like it at all.
“I don’t know why. I was scared about doing it but they’d asked me to come and play this character and it was such a great character that I couldn’t refuse.”
While Fi left Walford in December 2017, Lisa has still managed to cling onto a part of ‘EastEnders’ because she has come best pals with Luisa Bradshaw-White (Tina Carter) since appearing on the show, and confessed she “definitely wouldn’t say no” to reprising her role.
Lisa added: “But I went in and I loved it. I became good friend with Luisa Bradshaw-White, who has become one of my closest mates.
“I had such a lovely time doing it. If they did ever say, ‘Would you like to come back and do a bit more Fi?’ then I definitely wouldn’t say no.
“It’s such a lovely place to work and everyone was so nice.”
The former ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ winner previously admitted she is keen for her alter-ego to appear opposite Letitia Dean’s character Sharon Mitchell.
She added: “I loved working with Letitia Dean so it would be great to work with Sharon.
“[I] loved ‘EastEnders’ and would love to keep acting.”

Karen Elson never thought she was ‘drop dead gorgeous’

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Elson never thought she was “drop dead gorgeous”.
The model-turned-musician – who made her debut when she was photographed for the cover of Italian ‘Vogue’ on her 18th birthday – has revealed that she became a model because she wanted “to escape” everyday life and would compare her look to women in 1980s British music and fashion magazine ‘The Face’ when she was younger.
Speaking to Vogue UK, she said: “There was this one girl who was really into make-up – she was a bit of a goth, actually – and she said to me, you could be a model. And I thought, maybe I could. I wanted to get out, I wanted to escape as quickly as possible and that seemed like the way.
“I took a chance on myself, and sometimes you’ve got to do that. I have tenacity in spades. I didn’t look in the mirror and go, I’m so drop dead gorgeous I could do this, it was more like… I read ‘The Face’ and I’d flip through and think, I am that girl.
“I’m that off-kilter beauty that nobody would think was beautiful but then you see it in that magazine and it’s something. I knew from a young age that I was not meant to be where I was.”
The 39-year-old beauty – who has children Scarlett, 11, and Henry, 10, with ex-husband Jack White – also confessed that she was bullied a lot when she was younger, however admits that it’s given her a thicker skin which makes her “appreciate” the way she looks now “more than ever”.
Karen added: “When I was younger it was definitely difficult. I was called so many names. But as I’ve got older it’s the thing that has helped shape the life that I live and I appreciate the way I look now more than I ever did. What makes a person beautiful is mercurial.
“It’s an alchemy of things. It’s the soul, it’s the way you engage with the world. I’m not beholden to the way I look. I get morphed into so many people. Bullies are threatened by something they don’t understand. All those characteristics that were off-putting growing up turned out to be my strength.”

Lucy Watson ‘doesn’t really get spots’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lucy Watson says she is “lucky” she “doesn’t really get spots”.
The former ‘Made In Chelsea’ star is known for her vegan lifestyle and writing her own plant-based cookbook, Feed Me Vegan, however Lucy revealed that since cutting out animal derived products, she has more “energy” and “feels lighter”.
Speaking to GLAMOUR UK, she said: “I have been lucky with my skin as I don’t really get spots unless it’s because of hormones. My friend has eczema and she went vegan and her eczema has completely cleared up.
“They say that dairy is linked to skin problems. I have more energy and feel lighter, and feel less bloated.”
The brunette beauty was vegetarian from the age of five but admitted she started her vegan journey because she wanted to live a “cruelty-free lifestyle”.
The 27-year-old star added: “[Since quitting dairy] I became a vegan for ethical reasons. I grew up on a working farm when I was younger and quickly became vegetarian when I learned about what happened to animals, and how they are killed for me. I didn’t realise when I was a child.
“So I went through a bit of discovery there. I used to think that veganism was really crazy. I didn’t realise how cruel the diary industry was. As this didn’t really feature in the farm I grew up in. Learning that chicks and calfs were being killed I thought I can’t just be a vegetarian anymore. I just want to live a cruelty-free lifestyle”.
Lucy also confessed that she uses recopies from her cookbook daily and recommends her easy and quick white bean and chorizo stew.
She said: “The breakfast from my recipe book I recommend is the fry up, which is tofu scramble, potato hash and avocado, which is a real go-to or flaxseed crepes because crepes are what I used to eat every morning before school and they are exactly the same as the original.
“For lunch I would recommend a broccoli pasta, which is really delicious, or the blackbean quinoa soup if you are trying to be healthier. They are both quick and easy to make and delicious.
“My favourite go-to dinner is the white bean and chorizo stew; I love it so much. If you prepare it and leave it in the oven for 2 hours you can go and do what you need to do, and you can come back and it’s ready.”

Jameela Jamil felt ‘gross’ having skin airbrushed whiter

OHMYGOSSIP — Jameela Jamil’s skin was airbrushed whiter in photos early on in her career.
The ‘Good Place’ star has admitted it makes her feel “gross’ when she sees the Photoshopped pictures that made her skin appear lighter and her body skinnier, but she didn’t realise she had a choice.
She told Red magazine: “When I first started out in this industry, I didn’t know I was allowed to say no to airbrushing. I was given a whiter face, a little English nose and perfect skinny thighs.
“It makes me feel gross. I’m sorry to anyone who ever saw pictures of me like that and wanted to be thin like me.”
The 32-year-old – who is a campaigner for body positivity – constantly worries about her weight and appearance, though she is no longer obsessed with weighing herself.
She added: “I still suffer from body dysmorphia. I can’t get rid of it. Something’s wrong with my brain and I will rally against it for ever.
“I don’t weigh myself any more and I sort of judge my size on how my clothes fit because I know that I’ll never be able to see myself properly.”
Jameela recently admitted she thinks airbrushing should be made illegal.
The former T4 presenter says it’s a crime against women, describing the technique – which is used to correct perceived flaws – as “anti-feminist”.
Jameela continued: “It is ageist. It is fat-phobic. It looks weird. It looks wrong. It’s robbing you of your time, money, comfort, integrity and self worth.”
The British star – who plays the role of Tahani Al-Jamil in the American TV series ‘The Good Place’ – thinks it’s important to show imperfections.
She said: “We need to see spots. We need to see wrinkles. We need to see cellulite and stretch marks.
“If not, we will become almost allergic to the sight of them, even though we all have these things on our own bodies. We need to be honest with ourselves and with each other so that we can all be free.”
Meanwhile, Jameela previously claimed that speaking out about inequality has probably harmed her career.
Despite this, the outspoken star – who has voiced her opinions on a wide range of issues over the years, including sexism and dieting – won’t stop speaking out against inequality in Hollywood.
She said: “The funniest thing is when people are like, ‘You’re just saying all this stuff to further your career.’ Are you in insane? I’m biting all the hands that could possibly feed me. But I won’t go away.
“I’m sure that this has cost me. I would earn much more if I didn’t keep slagging off industries that pay a lot of money.
“But I can’t live with hypocrisy. I want to work with brands that are on women’s sides.”

The former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star will be appearing on the upcoming 11th series of the ITV skating competition – which will see Jason on the judging panel, alongside Olympic duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and Ashley Banjo – and Gemma insists the veteran judge “can’t back up” his comments with “actions”.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she said: “I find him highly amusing. I really like him, yes he’s definitely going to say stuff about me and Jason Gardiner can’t actually skate.
“Jason can have all the chat, but he can’t back it up with the actions.”
The 37-year-old star – who previously walked off ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2014 after just three days – has offered to lift her professional skating partner Matt Evers on ‘Dancing on Ice’, which would be a first for the show.

The 42-year-old presenter – who has been hosting the show since 2014 – claims she was promised one of the special seats, which the coaches sit on while listening to budding performers, but is yet to be gifted the furniture.
She told OK! magazine: “On my first series I was promised one of the chairs and I still haven’t got it, even six years later.”
Emma – who is married to former Busted star Matt Willis, with whom she has daughters Trixie, two, Isabelle, nine, and seven-year-old son Ace – is ecstatic that Olly Murs, will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Jennifer Hudson will be on ‘The Voice’ judging panel this year, but she feared the 37-year-old beauty wouldn’t be back.
She said: “Will and Tom are pros at this now, they’ve done it for so many years.
“Jen just settled in brilliantly, I was so scared she wouldn’t come back when I heard that she was doing the US version again, but she stayed true and came back, which is lovely.
“And Olly? Olly was just brilliant last year so there was a no brainer.”
However, Emma – who presented ‘Big Brother’ for five years before it was axed last year – admits she still gets nervous before shows, despite her experience.

Kym Marsh to be called ‘luscious Lolly’ instead of granny

OHMYGOSSIP — Kym Marsh will be known as “luscious Lolly” when she becomes a grandparent.
The 42-year-old actress can’t wait for her 21-year-old daughter Emilie Cunliffe to give birth to her first grandchild, but insists she doesn’t want to be known as “grandma” or “nanny”, so she has chosen the name Lolly instead.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’, she said: “I’m really excited about being a grandparent but there’s no way I’m being a grandma, or granny, nanny or any of those things.
“We looked on a website and found alternative names and I’m going to be Lolly.”
‘This Morning’ co-host Eamonn Holmes then said: “Lolly – you certainly will be the most glamorous granny out there. A luscious Lolly.”
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress replied: “Luscious Lolly? I’m going with that one.”
Kym joked she “forced” her daughter to undergo a pregnancy test after Emilie let slip that she was late and had a stomach ache while she was “casually” doing her mum’s nails one day.
The ‘Corrie’ star – who gave birth to Emilie’s brother David Cunliffe, 23, when she was 19 – said: “She just dropped it into conversation while she was casually doing my nails one day.
“She said, ‘I have a bit of a tummy ache but I’m late,’ and I was like, ‘How late?’ And she was like, ‘Well, so many weeks.’
“And I was like, ‘Emilie, do you not think we should do a test?’ But she was scared. So I kind of forced her.”
Emilie added: “It sounds really strange but the house we had at the time had this downstairs bathroom and it sounds like you locked me in like a ‘Harry Potter’ cloakroom.
“We did this test and immediately she looked at my belly and went, ‘Hello.’ ”
Singer Emilie admitted was shocked to discover she was expecting, but she cannot wait for her new arrival.
She added: “It was such a shock at first. The initial thought of being pregnant is so scary.
“But once I got past the scary part we were well up for it.”

Saoirse Ronan says playing Queen Mary gave her ‘strength’

OHMYGOSSIP — Saoirse Ronan says playing Mary Stuart gave her “strength” as an actress.
The 24-year-old star plays the titular role in historical drama film ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ and has revealed that being asked to lead the movie by director Josie Rourke helped her in both a “personal and professional sense” as she was thrown into a world that was alien to her previously.
In an interview with the Daily Mail newspaper, she said: “Making the film was brilliant for me in a personal as well as a professional sense. I was being prepared to be thrown out into the world in a way I hadn’t been before. With that comes fear. The fear of having to make decisions that hadn’t really been laid on me before.
“The kind of decisions that weren’t going to make that person over there happy, but one that’s right for me. Honestly playing Mary gave me that strength.
“Ultimately when it came to work, I always knew what I wanted to do and what I didn’t want to do. But it’s very easy to say this is the thing I want to do, and hard to say this isn’t what I want to do.”
The central plot of the movie is the fractious relationship between Mary and her cousin Queen Elizabeth I – the ruler of England and Ireland who is played by Margot Robbie – and the 1569 conflict between their two kingdoms.
Saoirse says the dynamic and differences between her character and Margot’s alter ego were fascinating to her.
The ‘Lady Bird’ star said: “One essentially wants anything that a man has been afforded; lovers, the ability to rule, a family, friends, being able to enjoy her life and art and music and drink and whatever else.
“And then, there’s Elizabeth, who’s the one who ends up having the longest reign because she cuts herself off from anything human that will get in the way.”

Sandra Bullock thinks streaming has changed film for the better

OHMYGOSSIP — Sandra Bullock thinks streaming has changed the movie industry for the better.
The 54-year-old actress stars in Netflix’s acclaimed thriller ‘Bird Box’ and she thinks that “streaming has elevated the bar” in terms of opportunities for actors and allowed more work for “women and people of colour”.
In an interview with The I Paper, she said: “Cinema is not going anywhere, streaming has elevated the bar. Before, if you were a superhero, you were able to get a movie made; anything else was not getting made. Now, with streaming, we have all kinds of work available. The movie business is changing, and providing so many more opportunities for women and for people of colour.”
The ‘Ocean’s 8’ star went on to explain that she feels the industry is changing in all ways and said she saw a notable difference in attitudes towards women before and after filming the all-female heist flick.
She said: “We started that film before #MeToo and we ended it during. I saw a noticeable difference.”
Despite changing attitudes, the ‘Proposal’ actress also noticed a difference while filming ‘Bird Box’ due to the presence of a female director, Susanne Bier.
She explained: “Because the boss was a woman, I did see a lot of fear in our crew members. The men were walking on eggshells so I said ‘Guys you’re allowed to joke I’ll tell you when you’ve gone too far.'”
The spine-chilling drama follows a pregnant woman in a dystopian future, where people are forced to wear blindfolds to avoid witnessing their biggest fears, and Sandra has shared the thing she fears the most.
She confessed: “It’s something happening to my kids. Becoming a mother has made me much more fearful.”

Kevin Hart evaluating hosting Oscars again

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Hart has confirmed he is “evaluating” hosting the Oscars again.
The ‘Night School’ star initially refused to say sorry for past jokes made on his Twitter account because he had done so years ago, and decided to step down from his role hosting the Academy Awards in February.
However, during his appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, he revealed he is going to think over their conversation and will let the chat show’s host – who previously hosted the prestigious ceremony in 2014 – know what he decides to do.
During a clip of Friday night’s (04.01.19) episode, Kevin said: “You have put a lot of things on my mind.
“Leaving here, I’m promising you I’m evaluating this conversation. This is a conversation I needed to have. “I’m glad that I had it here. And I’m glad that it was as authentic and real as I could have hoped that it would be.
“Let me assess, just to sit in the space and really think and you and I will talk before anything else. That’s my plan.”
The 39-year-old star – who has 13-month-old Kenzo with wife Eniko Parrish and Hendrix, 13, and 11-year-old Heaven with ex-wife Torrei Hart – accepts that his previous homophobic tweets were “wrong” and says he wants to do the right thing by his children.
He said: “I’m wrong for my past words. I said it, I understand that. I know that. My kids know when their dad messes up, I’m in front of it because I want to be an example so they know what to do.”
Ellen rang up the Academy pleading them to reassign him to the role and claimed they gave a positive response.
She said on a show: “I called the Academy today because I really want you to host the Oscars.
“The Academy is saying what can we do to make this happen.”
Recalling what the Academy told her, she said: “We want him to host, whatever we can do, we’d be thrilled.”
Kevin’s decision to publicly say sorry for his comments came after he chose to step down from hosting duties, a decision which was said to have puzzled some Academy members.
An insider said: “A lot of people at the Academy scratching their heads because he did what they wanted him to do so really he didn’t need to quit in that case.
“Everyone has noticed that it’s not like the Academy just pivoted to someone else; Kevin is clearly well aware that the job is still wide open. But meanwhile, he has needed to do his own clean-up work in terms of his image after all of this.”

Fleur East thinks her fans want something new

OHMYGOSSIP — Fleur East thinks fans are “ready for something new” four years after she released ‘Sax’.
The 31-year-old star is back with new single ‘Favourite Things’, the follow-up to her huge debut track – which hit number three in the UK Singles Chart back in 2015 – and she has insisted she isn’t nervous about matching the success of her first big hit.
Appearing on ‘This Morning’, she said: “I think there’s been enough time since ‘Sax’ for people to be ready for something new.
“I think I’ve matured as an artist – I’ve still got that feel-good energy but it’s in a different kind of way.”
The star – whose debut LP ‘Love, Sax and Flashbacks’ also came out in 2015 and followed her ‘X Factor’ runner up stint the previous year – thinks fans will react well to her latest tune.
Describing the track, she added: “It’s very anthemic, quite tribal – it’s got a lot of influences from West Africa where my mum is from, in Ghana. I feel like it’s more connected to me.”
‘Favourite Things’ is Fleur’s first release since leaving Syco Records in October and later joining new label Hunter Corp Records.
She recently admitted she found it “really tough” not being able to deliver the music she had made to her fans, who began labelling her a “flop” online.
Fleur said: “So ultimately, on social media, the fans were going, ‘you’re a flop. What are you doing? Where’s your music? We voted for you to release music, what is this?’ And that was really tough, and I was very, very… very low after that.
“And that’s another thing, ‘oh Fleur’s been dropped, Fleur’s a flop’. All that stuff, that’s really horrible to hear. And it’s like ‘guys, there’s so much more to this story’. I just kept thinking, ‘I want to release the music’. It’s not as easy as people think’.”

Ed Sheeran will face court over plagiarism claims

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran will face court over claims that he plagiarised Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’.
The 27-year-old musician previously denied that his 2014 single ‘Thinking Out Loud’ imitated the 1973 hit – however his bid to dismiss the lawsuit over his own song has been rejected, meaning a jury will decide whether or not he is guilty.
It has been reported District Judge Louis Stanton made the decision as he believed there were “substantial similarities between several” of the two works’ musical elements.
According to the BBC, the US judge went on to asses similarities between the tracks including bass lines, percussion the “aesthetic appeal” to listeners.
Stanton added that jurors “may be impressed by footage of a Sheeran performance which shows him seamlessly transitioning” between the two songs.
The pop star’s defence team have argued that the songs differ where Ed’s track is a “sombre, melancholic tones, addressing long lasting romantic love” while ‘Let’s Get It On’ is a “sexual anthem”.
The action has been brought against Ed, Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Atlantic Records by the estate and heirs of the late producer Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the track with Gaye.
This isn’t the first time Ed has been accused of copying the iconic single, as in 2016, heirs of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the song with Marvin – both of whom are now dead – claimed the two tracks were “strikingly similar”.
The lawsuit states: “The defendants copied the ‘heart’ of ‘Let’s’ and repeated it continuously throughout ‘Thinking’.
“The melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of ‘Thinking’ are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of ‘Let’s’.”
At the time, Ed denied the allegations and no further action was taken.

Eddie Redmayne recalls bubblegum-flavoured first kiss

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Redmayne only remembers the “taste of Hubba Bubba” bubblegum from his first kiss.
The 36-year-old actor has opened up the first time he locked lips and revealed he wast just nine when he shared a smooch with a Swedish girl.
In an interview with W magazine, he recalled: “It was at a school when I was about nine years old and the school that I was at, next door was a Swedish school. My friend was Swedish and there was a Swedish school disco and played a game of spin the bottle and if it landed on a girl, then I was gonna have to kiss them in the middle. It did land on a girl and I kissed her and I just remember the taste of Hubba Bubba. That’s my memory.”
The ‘My Week With Marilyn’ star was joined in the interview by Rami Malek, who revealed he was “very young” when he had his first kiss, because he was “jealous” his twin brother was more popular with the ladies than he was so he acted on it.
He told Eddie: “I was very, very young, and I have an identical twin brother and he did really well with people across the board and girls, as well, and I got a little jealous, you know, that he’d had his first kiss.
“He’d had a couple first kisses and I hadn’t.
“I thought, ‘You know, let’s never use this twin thing to our advantage.'”
However, when it comes to having any special skills, Eddie simply said he’s always “early” for everything.
He said: “I’m incredibly good at being early. I’m always the person who gets to the airport like a good four hours early.”
Rami admitted he’s a last minute person, adding: “If we’re going on the time thing, I manage to get to the airport about a minute or two before the plane actually takes off. I’ve never missed a flight.”
The ‘Theory of Everything’ star – who has nine-month-old Luke and two-year-old daughter Iris with his wife Hannah – says his spouse is much like Rami, always late for things, and recalled a trip they made before they were married, which he admitted could have ended their relationship then and there, when his wife held up their EasyJet flight for being late.
He remembered: “When I first went on holiday with my wife, before we were married, we were going to Italy and it was agreed that we would meet on the plane because I knew that our burgeoning relationship would not last because she’s the antithesis [of me].
“She’s like sensationally late all the time.
“And I’ll never forget, we were flying to Florence and I got on this EasyJet plane and I was sitting in the back surrounded by like three Irish monks and a nun and they were like, ‘Ladies and gentleman. I’m afraid this plane can’t take off because there’s one passenger that’s late.’
“Then my wife comes in. If we had met in the airport, I think the relationship would have died before we even started. But fortunately, there were some calming Irish monks.”
