OHMYGOSSIP — Director Rob Marshall says it would have been “impossible” to make ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ without Emily Blunt taking on the titular role.
The 57-year-old filmmaker – whose credits include ‘Into the Woods’ and ‘Chicago’ – was apprehensive about remaking the 1964 classic, which starred screen legend Dame Julie Andrews as the magical nanny, because he knows how much the original was adored and he felt the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ star was the only person able to do the part justice.
He told the latest issue of Empire magazine: “None of us would have touched a remake in a million years.
“The original film means a lot to all of us.
“I don’t know if we would have done this movie with Emily.
“I think it would have been almost impossible.”
Rob explained that the only way to approach the new film was by developing a story around Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) struggling to bring up his three children following the death of his wife and needing Mary to return to work her magic.
Speaking about the plot, which is based on the book series by P. L. Travers, he said: “For the kids (Michael and Jane, played by Emily Mortimer), things have also changed.
“They’ve almost become the adults now and their childhood is escaping them. So I thought, ‘Okay, there is a reason.’
“Mary Poppins comes back to help fill that hole in the family.'”
Emily credits Rob for helping ease her fears about living up to the iconic performance of Julie.
She said previously: “It was the most magical experience, because Rob Marshall is so loving and nurturing. He made it feel like an intimate experience and less of what I worried it would be, which would be to try and reimagine this character that is so beloved, and played by an iconic actress like Julie Andrews.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew McConaughey had nothing in common with his latest character.
The 48-year-old actor stars in ‘White Boy Rick’ as Rick Wershe Sr, whose teenage son ran a hugely successful drug empire in Detroit in the 1980s, and although he is a father himself, Matthew admitted he could find little similarities between himself and Rick Sr.
He told The Hollywood Reporter: “This is one of those where I go ‘I know who that dad is. He’s not me, so the only thing I brought was that I understand undying love for your children, and doing whatever you can do to keep the family together. After that, I hope there’s not many similarities.
“I’m usually drawn to characters that sort of ‘do unto,’ that follow through, by hook or by crook. Somehow, this guy has no follow through. Very much a Fredo. I’ve never played someone who loses so unanimously. He’s the runt. The doer in the family is the boy, White Boy Rick.”
However, Matthew loved taking on the role of Rick Sr – who passed away in 2014 – and felt the story needed to be told.
He said: “I’ve never had a role like this before. ‘Mama got hit by a train the day I went to jail’ kinda stuff.
“It was human, it was tragic, it was funny, but it was authentic, even if it were fiction.”
The film has been directed by Yann Demange and stars Richie Merritt as Rick Wershe Jr.

OHMYGOSSIP — Thom Yorke suffered writer’s block after ‘OK Computer’.
Radiohead released their critically acclaimed third album in 1997 but Thom admitted that he struggled to write music for some time afterwards.
He told Billboard: “I’ve had [writer’s block], and that was after ‘OK Computer’. Even then, I suffered from the sort of public side of it like the endless interviews, and the scrutiny, and it paralyzed me for a long time. But then what I did instead is I just started drawing and writing, so I didn’t really stop, I just stopped the music.
“It was the scrutiny. And the way people talked to me during that period I just found a bit too much. I hadn’t found my place with it yet, hadn’t found a peace with what had happened at that point. That took quite a while to sort of come to terms with it, where you say to yourself, OK, this is what I’ve been given, this is who I am, you know, it took a while.”
And he admitted that writing is a form of therapy for him.
He said: “That’s how I move across life, move through period of life, is finding reasons, or even if it’s just musically, finding a sound, or once I find it I’m moving on. I’m still alive. The process is still going on. I struggle when I can’t work. That’s when things go weird.”
Thom, 49, also revealed that although he has turned his talents to film composing for Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Dario Argento’s ‘Suspiria’, touring will always be a part of his life.
Asked if he will always tour, Thom said: “I would imagine so, yeah. Until such time as I can’t stand up.”
When questioned “With Radiohead?”, he answered: “Yeah. With whatever, yeah.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber is set to become a US citizen.
The 24-year-old Canadian singer – who is reported to have married Hailey Baldwin, 21, earlier this week – is applying for dual citizenship.
TMZ reports that Justin will retain his Canadian citizenship but is seeking to also become an American citizen as he lives in the US and has a deep appreciation for the country where he “became extremely rich and successful”.
Justin will have to subject himself to a background check by the FBI and fingerprinting and he will have to sit a citizenship interview.
If he is successful, he will attend an oath ceremony and pledge allegiance to the US.
Meanwhile, Justin’s manager Scooter Braun recently admitted he thought the star was “going to die” when he was going through a rough patch in 2014.
The singer suffered a string of negative incidents including arrests for assault, driving offences and vandalism between 2013 and 2014, and Scooter said he used to have a recurring nightmare in which the ‘Sorry’ hitmaker died during one of his escapades.
Scooter said: “There was a time when I would go to sleep almost every night – when he had the money to fly away from me – and I was worried every night that I was going to lose him.
“I thought he was going to die. I thought he was going to sleep one night and that he would have so much crap in his system that he would not wake up the next morning.”
Now Justin has turned his life around, and Scooter insists that it was the star’s own decision to get help.
He said: “I think he made a conscious choice for himself to change, I think for a year and a half I failed miserably trying to help him, because for year and a half he didn’t change … It wasn’t until one day he woke up and said, ‘Hey I need to talk to you, I don’t want to be that person anymore.’
“[He’s an] extraordinary young man who’s been given an extraordinary life. And he used to complain, and he used to fight it and that’s when he got into a dark place, but when he accepted his responsibility and took a hard look at himself and not what everyone was doing, that’s when he owned it and he got healthy.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ayda Field wants another baby.
Although the ‘X Factor’ judge and her husband Robbie Williams have only just welcomed their third child Colette ‘Coco’ Williams, Ayda admitted she is already trying to convince Robbie that they should have another baby.
Ayda, 39, told The Sun: “I wouldn’t say no to four. I’ve been asking for another one already. You have to ask. After that the shop would be closed. We’d be in a people carrier and we’d be done. It’s been a miraculous experience and I’m super-grateful and if I can convince him for four then drinks are on me.”
While his wife and children all want another baby after welcoming Coco via surrogacy, Robbie, 44, is not as keen as he doesn’t want to be an old dad.
He said: “Teddy’s asking for another one. Ayda’s doing subliminals, I just don’t know, I’m going to give it a few months to see how I feel.
I know people are having kids a lot older in life but when Coco’s 30, I’ll be 70.
“I’m 44 and my mum’s still here, she’s in her late seventies and I know how quickly life goes, and I’d like to be around for my kids.”
Before welcoming Coco, Robbie and Ayda already had kids Teddy, five, and Charlton, three, together.
The couple recently announced they had become parents for a third time after a “long and difficult” struggle to have another baby.
Taking to Instagram, Ayda wrote: “I spy with my little eye an extra little hand … So we have been keeping a very special secret! We are delighted to share with you that we have had a baby girl….welcome to the world Colette (Coco) Josephine Williams!!
“It has been a very long and difficult path to get here, which is why we have kept it on the down low. Family comes in all forms, and this little lady, who is biologically ours, was carried by an incredible surrogate mother, to whom we will be eternally grateful. OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Perry secretly spent the past three months in hospital.
The former ‘Friends’ star was rushed into a hospital in Los Angeles, California, in order to have an emergency operation to fix a gastrointestinal perforation, which causes severe abdominal pain and tenderness and can be fatal and has spent an extended period of time recuperating.
He tweeted: “Three months in a hospital bed. Check.”
Matthew’s representative confirmed the surgery last month, saying: “Matthew recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair a gastrointestinal perforation. He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals.”
A gastrointestinal perforation or ruptured bowel occurs when a hole develops in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract and can be caused by illnesses such as Crohn’s disease, colitis and appendicitis.
Although it is usually repairable, doctors have to work fast to prevent the contents of the gastrointestinal tract from spilling out into the stomach and causing an infection.
Once an infection develops, it can lead to sepsis and ultimately cause death.
Details on Matthew’s surgery are not known but he has been very open in the past about his struggles with alcohol abuse, which can contribute to digestive health issue.
The 48-year-old actor completed a 48-day programme in rehab for Vicodin addiction in 1997 after he turned to the drug to stop him from “drinking as much” as he was.
In 2001, he checked back into a rehab facility to recover from his use of Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines, and alcohol.
He said previously: “I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my life and a lot of wonderful accolades but the best thing about me is that if an alcoholic comes up to me and says, ‘Will you help me stop drinking?’ I will say, ‘Yes. I know how to do that.’ ”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Nadia Essex claims she has resigned from ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
The relationship expert was suspended from the show following allegations she was found using fake accounts to troll people online but Nadia says she has now resigned and will not go quietly.
She wrote on Twitter: “Today I have officially resigned From Celebs Go Dating.”
And she shared an old quote from actress Jameela Jamil, which read: “I just cannot stay silent any more. I don’t care if I’m going down – I’m going down in flames.
“I’m fine not to work in this industry. But I’m not fine not to stay something.”
While filming for the new series of ‘Celebs Go Dating’ – which features Olivia Attwood, Eyal Booker, Alik Alfus and TOWIE’s Chloe Sims – kicked off a few weeks ago, bosses are now on a frantic hunt to find a replacement dating expert.
Nadia’s suspension comes just weeks after new agent Paul Carrick Brunson was pulled in as Eden Blackman’s replacement following his decision to quit this year.
Nadia and Eden had reportedly been feuding behind the scenes on the last series, and she had implied that bosses should axe him.
She said at the time: “I think now there’s an opportunity to look at what works, and what maybe doesn’t and refresh it.
“In terms of going into the next series, we could make it something that’s phenomenal.”
Nadia reportedly hid behind fake Twitter profiles to slam Eden and to abuse her critics.
And ‘Celebs Go Dating’s Seb Morris has claimed that she made Eden’s life hell for over a year.
He tweeted: “Can’t say much at the min but feel very sorry for the person whose life she’s made a living hell for the past year or so.
“So there we have it! Feel so sorry for what you and your family have been through recently. She set up these accounts before Cape Verde and had the audacity to accept a glass of champagne off him on the flight!! You’ll be back stronger, mate. X.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Willis was near tears after ‘Big Brother’ was axed.
The bubbly TV presenter addressed Channel 5’s decision to cancel the show and its celebrity version on Friday’s (14.09.18) final launch night and Emma admitted she is devastated to see both shows end after 18 years.
Speaking to Rylan Clark-Neal on ‘Big Brother’s Bit on the Side’, she said: “This should be a positive thing because we should just f**king show everybody how great this programme is and we should love it and embrace it and give it the sendoff it deserves.
“I’ve also been here before when it finished, so I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, we buried it and then it came back to life’.
“It was brilliant actually, and all the changes that the production team have made this series for celebrity and the one we’re about to enter.
“I think they’ve taken all the brilliant bits from the past and brought them back and mixed them with something different for the future, because it’s been on for a bloody long time and it has to be different. So I think they’ve made, I’m getting emotional now too, they’ve made a brilliant mix.”
Speaking before the launch episode, Emma, 42, admitted she was shocked by Channel 5’s decision to axe the show but is still hopeful that it could be picked up by another broadcaster.
She said: “This is a very strange ‘What You Talking About Willis?’ today because normally it’s a ‘Yay! It’s the launch!’ of our civilian series. But the excitement comes with really a lot of sadness because we have all found out today that ‘Big Brother’ is no more on Channel 5. I feel like I’ve been through this process before. Well I have been through this process before because I worked on the last year on Channel 4 and we like … buried it. Like, genuinely. We had a grave for it and everything in the back garden and then the next thing we know is, ‘Oh wow, it’s coming back.’
“So, the news was a shock, if I’m honest, but I kind of still hold out hope that somebody out there, loves it as much as we all do still and will give it a home in the future because it has been on the TV for a bloody long time and you know it’s part of our popular culture. So it would be sad. It would be sad to see its end at the age of eighteen. It’d be lovely to see it come back for its twentieth anniversary.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonathan Ross claims he was BBC Radio 2’s first choice to replace Chris Evans.
The 57-year-old presenter told viewers of his ITV chat show that BBC bosses approached him to take over from Chris, who is moving to Virgin, but he refused because he didn’t want to do early mornings.
He said: “They asked me and I said, ‘no. I can’t do early mornings at my age because I’m lazy and rich’.”
However, a source at the BBC insists that Jonathan was never approached about the gig.
The insider told the Daily Mirror: “The BBC did not approach Jonathan Ross about presenting the Breakfast Show. The new presenter of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show will be announced in due course.”
Earlier this month, Chris revealed he is leaving BBC Radio 2’s ‘The Breakfast Show’, which he’s helmed for eight years after taking over from Sir Terry Wogan, at the end of the year, to return to his “spiritual home.”
He said in a statement: “In many ways Virgin Radio is my spiritual home. I see nothing but exciting and groundbreaking opportunities ahead. In a medium that is changing so quickly on a daily basis, the potential for growth is unprecedented.
“Our plan is, to give it all we’ve got, see where we can get to and have the most possible fun along the way. It makes me smile every time I think about it.”
The broadcaster hosted Virgin’s breakfast show from 1997 until 2001 when he was sacked by the Scottish Media Group, which bought the station in 2000, for “breach of contract” after he failed to turn up for work for the sixth day in succession.
The station, which Chris once owned, went on to be rebranded as Absolute Radio in 2008 before Virgin was given a new lease of life in 2016 when Sir Richard Branson relaunched Virgin Radio UK as a digital station.
Chris will front Virgin Radio UK’s Breakfast Show from early next year.

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Kendrick called former President Barack Obama an “a**hole” in an exchange which left him doubled over in laughter.
The 33-year-old actress has finally revealed what she said to Obama during a meeting in 2012 – when he was still the US president – which caused confusion after pictures surfaced showing the figurehead in a fit of laughter.
During an appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’, Anna admitted she actually insulted the president in a teasing manner, and managed to get a laugh out of him.
She revealed that Obama singled her movie ‘Up In The Air’ out for praise in front of around 30 people because of the way in which it “talked about the economy and the recession,” and when the pair met face-to-face later on, he apologised for “embarrassing” her with the praise.
Anna then claimed she responded: “Yeah, you’re such an a**hole.”
The ‘Pitch Perfect’ star then decided to make up a fictional character trait about people from her home state of Maine, and teased Obama for not knowing the made-up fact.
She told show host Stephen Colbert: “So I called him an asshole and scolded him for not knowing enough about the 50 states, so that was what made him double over with laughter.”
Meanwhile, Anna has recently been joking about the close bond she formed with Blake Lively on the set of their new movie ‘A Simple Favour’, including claiming Blake would “do anything” for her.
She shared: “Blake would do anything for me. She would give me a kidney. I’m not kidding.”
In fact, Anna has even joked about competing with Blake’s husband Ryan Reynolds for her affections.
She added: “You know what it is? Ryan’s an attractive, famous, successful man and you need to keep them on their toes.

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross “look out for each other”.
The happy couple – who have three-year-old daughter Jagger together – are currently starring in their very own reality show ‘Ashlee + Evan’ which details their life as a family, and have said their romance works because they both know what the other person needs.
Evan, 30, said: “We’re very different, but we understand each other and we look out for each other. We know how to work with each other to get through whatever we need to get through. And she’s way too hot to stay mad at!”
Whilst 33-year-old Ashlee – who also has nine-year-old son Bronx from her previous marriage to Pete Wentz – added: “We don’t hold onto things, which is good too. I love to keep that attraction part alive and fun. But with Evan, I don’t have to try. He’s the most handsome, fun person ever. He makes me feel so great about myself.”
Despite their close bond, Ashlee admits there was still “a little bit of hesitation” when it came to the decision to broadcast their lives on television, but says they’ve “grown” as people since filming the show.
Speaking to People magazine, the ‘Pieces of Me’ singer said: “There was a little bit of a hesitation about doing the show. But we wanted to show our music and for people to get to know us. And for me it’s been a long time. I’ve definitely grown as a person.”

The couple – who have two-year-old daughter Luna and son Miles, who is almost four months, together – have been an item for 12 years and after tying the knot five years ago, they have taken to social media to post glowing tributes to one another.
But neither of them could resist poking fun at each other in their posts – which were both shared on Instagram and both featured professional shots of the couple – as they each referenced the other’s career.

OHMYGOSSIP — Eddie Murphy’s 10th child will be a baby boy.
The 57-year-old actor is expecting another addition to his brood, which will be his second kid with long-term girlfriend Paige Butcher – who he has been dating since 2012 – who is due to give birth in December, and it has now been revealed the new arrival will be a boy.
Paige told TMZ: “It’s going to be a boy.”
And when asked if the pair were excited, the 39-year-old beauty added: “Yes, we are!”
News of Paige’s pregnancy was confirmed by the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ star’s representative last month.
They said: “Eddie Murphy and long-time girlfriend Paige Butcher are pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child in December.”
The impending arrival will be a brother or sister to Eddie and Paige’s first child together, two-year-old daughter Izzy, who was born in May 2016, weighing 7lbs 15oz.
The ‘Shrek’ star already has five children, Bria, 28, Miles, 25, Shayne, 23, Zola, 18, and Bella, 16, with ex-wife Nicole Murphey, who he split from in 2006 after 22 years of marriage.
The ‘Coming to America’ actor also has a 29-year-old son, Eric, 26, with Paulette McNeely, as well as a son Christian, 27, with Tamara Hood, and 11-year-old daughter Angel with Spice Girls singer Mel B.
Eddie previously admitted he “got lucky” with his children, because they are all so well behaved.
He said: “I really got lucky with my kids. There really isn’t a bad one in the bunch, everyone turned out to be really good people.”
The ‘Norbit’ star also previously said that all of his kids are “totally different from each other”.
He said: “You know what is funny? None of my kids are like me, and I’m sure parents say this all of the time, they are all totally different from each other.
“None of them are chips off the old block. They all have their own thing, They’re good kids.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tiffany Haddish would rather have money than her Emmy Award.
The 38-year-old actress picked up the gong for Best Guest Actress in a comedy series for her stint as a guest host on ‘Saturday Night Life’ during the glitzy award ceremony last week, but has joked that whilst she appreciates the accolade, she would rather have cash so she can “pay the rent”.
Speaking to E! News about her win, she teased: “I feel the same way I did when I wasn’t an Emmy winner. I don’t feel any different. I’m waiting for the check, you know, ’cause you know, when you win a trophy, when you’re like a NASCAR driver and stuff, you get like, flowers and a check, so I’m hoping that happens. I’m waiting for that to happen.
“Accolades, what is that? Accolades don’t pay the rent. I gotta pay for my grandma’s nurses and stuff so that would, a check would be nice. But it’s nice to have trophies, I guess. But it doesn’t matter if you don’t have a roof to keep ’em under, huh?”
It’s not the first time the ‘Girls Trip’ star has joked about her paycheque either, as she previously said she would love to try her hand at hosting the Oscars, but only if she got paid for it.
Speaking at this year’s ceremony – where she presented the awards for Documentary Short and Live-Action Short alongside Maya Rudolph – she said: “I would totally do it if we get paid! ‘Cause I didn’t get paid for [presenting tonight.]
“I didn’t get nothing. If I get paid, I’m down. ‘Cause, you know, I got bills to pay. I gotta pay for these dresses.”
During their time on stage, the two stars joked the ceremony – which was criticized in 2016 for its lack of diversity – was “too black now”.
Maya said: “But we just want to say, don’t worry. There are so many more white people to come.”
Tiffany added: “So many. We just came from backstage, and there are tons of them back there.
“And not just movie stars, there are white people walking around with headsets, white people with clipboards. I’m personally not a fan of white people with clipboards, because I’m always wondering, what are they writing down about me?”
