Leighton Meester: Gossip Girl wasn’t always the healthiest environment

OHMYGOSSIP — Leighton Meester doesn’t know if it was the “healthiest environment” growing up on ‘Gossip Girl’.
The 32-year-old actress was just 21-years-old when she landed the part of Blair Waldorf on the American drama series and she says it has “been interesting and helpful to look at it and examine it as an adult”.
She said: “I was young when I started ‘Gossip Girl’. A lot more people were suddenly around and I was being looked at. If you don’t have the right perspective, you could definitely be confused by people being that nice to you or judging you for behaviour that’s typical of a 20, 21 year old … making mistakes but having to make them very publicly. It’s been interesting and helpful for me to look at it and examine it as an adult and go, ‘I don’t know if it was the healthiest environment.'”
Leighton – who is married to Adam Brody – found it tough with the long days on set.
She added to PorterEdit magazine: “I would get to set at 5am and leave at 8pm. A lot of days I didn’t see the sun. Everyone has their own journey, especially in their early 20s, when they’re just figuring out who they are. Because of the success of that show, I was put in a place where that journey was sped up. I had to figure it out quickly and with not a completely developed mind to discern between what’s real and what’s not, who I can trust and who I can’t. I got really lucky and was able to very early find and stay friends with people who are true. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s sort of a time capsule.”

Zelda Williams shares late father’s advice

OHMYGOSSIP — Zelda Williams says the best advice her late father Robin gave her was to “be kind and work very hard”.
The ‘Dead of Summer’ actress feels very grateful to have had her dad helped her navigate her fame and she has learned from him that the most important thing is to be the “best thing in whatever thing that you’re doing”.
She told Entertainment Tonight: “As an actor it’s very different from the rest of it but it was always, you know, be kind, work very hard, and I think the concept of ego has kind of taken over for a lot of people in our industry where they think what they’re presenting has to be a particular thing for them. And truthfully, you’re not your audience so all that self-consciousness and all that – it gets in the way of you actually just being the best thing in whatever thing that you’re doing.”
Meanwhile, Zelda previously revealed she likes to celebrate her late father’s birthday “in peace”.
She said: “It’s that time of year again. Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the pain of certain anniversaries, moments full of memory that come round like clockwork and usurp all others, no matter how hard you may try to prepare for or avoid them. These weeks are the hardest for me, and thus, you’ll see me a lot less, if at all. For all the internet’s good intentions in expressing to me their fondness for dad, it’s very overwhelming to have strangers need me to know how much they cared for him right now. It’s harder still to be expected to reach back. So while I’ve got the strength, consider this my one open armed response, before I go take my yearly me time to celebrate his and my birthdays in peace. Thank you for loving him. Thank you for supporting him and his life’s work. Thank you for missing him. I do too.”

Meghan Markle and Serena Williams relying on each other

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle and Serena Williams have been “relying on each other a lot recently”.
The Duchess of Sussex and the tennis star have known each other for a long time but she says they grow closer and closer by the day.
She said: “We were actually just texting each other this morning. We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently.”
And Serena felt like she was “watching history” when she saw Meghan tie the knot with Prince Harry in Windsor Castle earlier this year.
She told Australia’s The Project: “I felt like we were literally watching history. I feel like in a few years, when I look back at that moment, it’s just gonna be so historic. It’s gonna be something people never forget. The whole service was really wonderful and most of all, I just wanted to see my friend be happy and I think that’s what happened.”
Meanwhile, Serena previously revealed she feels “proud” of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex after she launched a cookbook in support of the victims of the Grenfell tragedy.
The 37-year-old royal has written the foreword to a recipe book from cooks at the Hubb Community Kitchen, which is based in London.
Responding to the announcement, Serena wrote on her Twitter account: “I used to call you Meghan (and I still do) but dear Duchess of Sussex your first project “Together” a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you. It’s beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy (sic)”

Demi Lovato seen in public for the first time

OHMYGOSSIP — Demi Lovato has been spotted out in public for the first time since entering rehab.
The ‘Cool for the Summer’ hitmaker was photographed out and about near the rehab facility she is currently residing in, nearly two months after her near-fatal overdose.
She was seen talking to a lady with a coffee in hand and she couldn’t stop smiling, TMZ reports.
Meanwhile, a source previously insisted Demi is “working hard on bettering herself” whilst in rehab.
An insider said: “She’s working very hard on bettering herself and staying on the right path. Sobriety is the most important thing in Demi’s life right now. Demi has been fortunate to have her family and friends for support during this time. Demi’s mother and her ex, Wilmer, have visited her in rehab when they can.”
Demi’s mother Dianna de la Garza had previously confessed she was still “shaken” by the incident, but said her daughter is now “happy” and “healthy” as she works toward her sobriety.
She shared: “It’s still a really difficult thing to talk about. I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day. [Demi’s assistant called and] said, Demi overdosed. So, I was in shock. I didn’t know what to say. It was just something that I never, ever expected to hear, as a parent, about any of my kids. I just feel like the reason she’s alive today is because of the millions of prayers that went up that day when everybody found out what was happening.
“I don’t think she would be here if it hadn’t been for those prayers and the good doctors and Cedars-Sinai. They were the best. I couldn’t have asked for a better team of people to save her life. She’s happy. She’s healthy. She’s working on her sobriety, and she’s getting the help she needs. That in itself encourages me about her future and about the future of our family.”

Kristin Cavallari excited about The Hills reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Kristin Cavallari is “excited” about ‘The Hills’ reboot.
The ‘Very Cavallari’ star is thrilled that the programme is coming back and she would have “loved” to have been a part of it.
She told E! News: “I’m just as excited as everybody else to see it. I’ve been talking to Heidi and Audrina and so, I of course would love to be part of it. Heidi and I have joked about swapping an episode for an episode. I’ll have to bring it up with E! and MTV. But yeah, I’m really excited for them. I can’t wait to see it.”
The reboot of ‘The Hills’ will be called ‘The Hills: New Beginnings’, and it was unveiled at the MTV Video Music Awards last month. Heidi, Spencer and Audrina reunited on the red carpet at New York’s Radio City Music Hall alongside fellow ‘Hills’ stars Jason Wahler, Justin Bobby, Stephanie Pratt and Frankie Delgado.
A teaser for the show has already dropped, and sees footage of Los Angeles shown while Stephanie says: “It’s like we’re all growing up. It’s weird.”
‘The Hills’ was a spin-off of ‘Laguna Beach’ and followed Lauren Conrad as she tried to make a name for herself in the fashion world. But Lauren left in season five, and Kristin took over as the lead star.
Meanwhile, Kristin previously said she wouldn’t trade her time on ‘The Hills’ “for the world”.
She said: “It got me to where I am today … If I did watch them I would cringe. I think MTV played them a couple summers ago and my husband Jay put them on as a joke to mess with me. It was definitely cringeworthy – I know what I did! I know what happened.”

Nicola Thorp underwent treatment for early stages of cancer

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Thorp previously underwent treatment for the “really early stages” of cervical cancer.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star – who played Nicola Rubinstein on the ITV soap for a year until she departed in June – is pleased the likes of charities Cancer Research UK are spreading awareness of the disease, because she was “emotional” and “very confused” about cancer during her experience nearly 10 years ago due to a lack of information at the time.
She said: “I’ve had treatment for really early stages of cervical cancer. That is something that really is completely preventable now because of research in that area.
“When I found out about it I was emotional because I was very confused. There wasn’t a lot of information out there a while ago now, this was nearly 10 years ago.
“We have so many fantastic services that are available and they’re only available because of charities like Cancer Research UK.”
The 29-year-old actress is hoping to encourage more women to go for a smear test to try to catch any signs of cancer before they develop.
She added to The Sun Online: “I went for a routine smear test and was able to catch that in time. I had very early stages of developing stages of abnormal cells and they managed to catch it before it turned into cancer, and that’s not something that would have happened several decades ago.
“As a women’s activist as well I really try and push the message that women need to get their smear test.”
While Nicola has remained coy about a potential return, Kym Marsh – who plays Michelle Connor in the ITV soap – hinted in June that she wouldn’t be surprised to see the actress back on the cobbles at some point.
She previously said: “It was announced recently that Nicola Thorp is leaving the soap. I’m sure it’s not the last we’ve seen of her – she’s a great actress.”

Anjli Mohindra almost turned down Bodyguard role

OHMYGOSSIP — Anjli Mohindra almost turned down the chance to audition for ‘Bodyguard’ because she didn’t want to “perpetuate the seemingly Islamophobic narrative”.
The 28-year-old actress did eventually get the part of terrorist Nadia in the BBC One drama – which came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday night (23.09.18) when her alter-ego revealed she built the bomb which killed home secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) – after she decided to audition because the character “felt real”.
She wrote: “When I was first invited to audition for Nadia in Bodyguard, my response was simple: “I can’t do it”. I know I shouldn’t judge – I’m an actor and that involves breathing life into and humanising a character on the page – but I didn’t want to perpetuate the seemingly Islamophobic narrative (something which, when the first episode aired, viewers accused the show of doing).
“However, as my agent pointed out to me, you never know what’s coming with a Jed Mecurio show. Once I clocked the end game, I thought to myself ‘this feels closer to the truth’.
“These terror groups are funded, organised, even – however inadvertently – radicalised by people of power in the West. Being constantly excluded, alienated and persecuted can push people to extremes. Anyone (Muslim or otherwise) can be driven to inhumane actions if they’re constantly vilified and dehumanised.
“And THAT’s what made me sign for the part. This character felt real – she wasn’t a plot device. I was able to give her a personal backstory which I then felt compelled to bring to life. The role wasn’t black or white (or even brown) – it was multi-layered and complex. Just like life. (sic)”
Despite her initial concerns, the former ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ actress is pleased she signed up for the programme, which starred Richard Madden as personal protection officer David Budd, because she has received plenty of positive feedback.
In a piece for Stylist magazine, she wrote: “The response to the show has been overwhelming – it’s wonderful getting positive feedback from friends and overhearing strangers talk about it on the bus.
“Jed writes stories that grip you, play with your emotions and deliver the unexpected – the stuff of great TV drama – which has also opened up some much-needed debate.”
Bodyguard’s finale concluded with an average of 10.4 million viewers and a peak of 11 million, making it the biggest drama across all channels since 2011 and the biggest BBC drama since 2008.
Creator Jed Mercurio said: “I’m completely stunned by the exceptional response to Bodyguard which reflects the star quality of our brilliant cast led by Richard Madden and Keeley Hawes and our outstanding crew led by producers Priscilla Parish and Eric Coulter and directors Thomas Vincent and John Strickland.”
The show has also broken BBC iPlayer records with episode one the biggest of any programme ever on the catch-up service with 7.3 million requests to date.

Joe Simpson’s cancer battle brought him and Ashlee together

OHMYGOSSIP — Ashlee Simpson grew closer to her father after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The 33-year-old singer always had a stronger bond with her mom Tina when she was growing up, while her dad Joe had a better relationship with elder daughter Jessica but after the family patriarch was told he had the disease two years ago, the ‘Pieces of Me’ hitmaker did her best to spend as much time with him as possible.
In scenes from the latest episode of her reality show ‘Ashlee + Evan’, Ashlee said: “Jessica was more of a daddy’s girl and I was a mommy’s girl.
“I’ve been developing and growing my relationship with my father.”
And Ashlee – who has son Bronx, nine, from her marriage to Pete Wentz and daughter Jagger, three, with husband Evan Ross – admitted she feels “so lucky” to still have Joe in her life.
She said: “I have a different appreciation for you than I did when I was a kid, a stubborn kid, I’m so lucky to have you, daddy.”
During an emotional meeting, Joe spoke of how the condition had taken its toll on his health but admitted he agreed to undergo surgery for the sake of his family.
He said: “The biggest part is, because I don’t have testosterone, I just don’t have energy. So you have to power through.
“A year ago changed my life. I remember saying to my doctor, ‘What if I don’t have surgery?’ He said: ‘In six months you’ll be dead.’ I really wrestled with [having surgery] and saying I’ll see you guys later.
“I couldn’t do that to you and to your sister and to my grandbabies.”
Joe was declared cancer free back in July, two years after diagnosis.
He said at the time: “I feel good. I beat it. I have zero cancer. I went from Stage IV to cancer-free.”

Asia Argento was angry over Anthony Bordain’s suicide

OHMYGOSSIP — Asia Argento was “angry” with Anthony Bordain for taking his own life.
The 43-year-old actress – who has children Anna Lou, 17, and Nicola, 10, from past relationships – was left in a “hole” and felt she and her family had been abandoned following her partner’s suicide in June.
She told DailyMailTV: “The anger kept me alive because, otherwise, this desperation has no end, there’s no end.
“And then I was angry, yes, for abandoning my kids. But now it’s been replaced just by this loss, this hole that cannot be filled by anything.”
Asia previously paid tribute to the ‘Parts Unknown’ star’s “fearless spirit” and described him as her “rock”.
Tweeting after his passing, she wrote: “Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did. His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine. (sic)”
Asia – whose romance with the TV chef was first rumoured in February last year – also posted a cryptic snap of herself on Instagram earlier in the day.
In the now-deleted photograph, the actress was seen wearing a T-shirt that read: “F**k everyone.”
Asia captioned the image: “You know who you are.”
The chef’s body was found by his close friend, French chef Eric Ripert, in his hotel room.
And TV network CNN – which aired Anthony’s culinary travel guide ‘Parts Unknown’ – subsequently confirmed that he had taken his own life.
In a statement, the broadcaster explained: “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain.
“His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Anthony is survived by his 11-year-old daughter Ariane, his only child with ex-wife Ottavia Busia.

Julianne Moore doesn’t want to talk about ageing

OHMYGOSSIP — Julianne Moore wants to stop talking about ageing.
The 57-year-old actress finds it frustrating that she’s constantly quizzed about getting older and everyone’s life has a “timeframe” so she should just be left to get along with her life.
In an interview with Porter magazine, she said: “Oh my God. I’ve been talking about aging since I was 30, can we just be alive!”
“We’re all aging – children are aging. That’s what life is and we have to accept that there’s a beginning, a middle and an end. It’s important to remember there’s a timeframe, so we can be awake for it.”
The ‘Boogie Nights’ star also claims that as well as Hollywood being focused on age, they often label women as “strong”- and Julianne believes not every woman should automatically be put into this category.
She said: “It’s funny because right now, along with the aging conversation, there’s a ‘strong woman’ conversation.
“And I’m like, ‘Why is that an attribute that everyone has to have?’ People are complicated. Some people are stronger than others and some people are able to achieve their goals and others aren’t.”
Julianne – who has children Caleb, 20, and Liv, 16, with husband Bart Freundlich – is a strong supporter of the #MeToo movement and the ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ actress thinks the movement will change the industry for the better.
Speaking on galvanizing change in the film industry, she said: “When all the #MeToo stuff started happening, an older gentleman said to me ‘I’m really worried that people aren’t going to hire women anymore because of this.’ And I went berserk. I said, ‘You know what? We’ll hire each other!’ ”

Fadi Fawaz makes George Michael suicide claim

OHMYGOSSIP — George Michael’s former lover claims the late singer tried to “kill himself” four times.
The ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker – who died from natural causes in December 2016 – “wanted to die so badly” and he even tried to “stab himself” multiple times while in rehab, Fadi Fawaz has claimed.
He wrote on Instagram: “He has tried to kill himself 4 times, whilst in rehab he tried to stab himself 25 times. He never told me how he did it when he was taken for three days to Marylebone.
“I would say ‘aren’t you glad May 16th didn’t happen’, referring to one suicide attempt, and he would say ‘no’.
“He wanted to die so badly and it was powerful to hear him say it.
“I think life stopped for him a long time ago. Everyone wanted him because of what and who he is. “‘Everyone wants me alive’ is what he would say.(sic)”
And when the hairdresser found George’s body on Christmas Day two years ago, he assumed the ‘Praying For Time’ singer had finally succeeded in taking his own life.
He posted: “I thought that’s it, he finally did it and I finally saw him dead in his bed. I always begged him not to do this but he was so depressed. All he wanted to do was die.”
Fadi was initially reluctant to get into a relationship with George because of the ‘Faith’ hitmaker’s use of the drug GHB and admitted he regularly pleaded with the singer to curb the habit cos he feared it would kill him.
He said: “I was so against GHB, I used to say to him ‘I never want to find you dead in bed’. That was my biggest fear to find him dead in bed as a result of this drug.
“Every day for about 3 months whilst at the house in Highgate, I would come down in the mornings and find him passed out in the chair or on the floor near the fire with his tea.
“This was in 2012. I told him he could never handle ‘G’. I questioned why he was doing it as he started falling asleep whilst we were out in public. I was told that he also fell asleep in the studio.(sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew Wright plans to be a stay-at-home dad.
The former ‘The Wright Stuff’ host recently announced his wife Amelia – who he married in 2010 – is expecting the couple’s first child, a baby girl, after eight years of failed IVF attempts, and he has now revealed he wants to be his little girl’s main guardian when she arrives into the world in February.
He told the latest issue of HELLO! magazine: “I’m excited – and terrified.
“I’ve only ever held two babies in my entire life!
“Now I can envisage becoming the primary carer when Amelia returns to work.
“Every day we keep pinching ourselves because we can hardly believe it’s finally happening.”
After their seventh attempt to fall pregnant, Amelia admitted she felt her life “flash before (her) eyes”.
Describing the “terrifying” ordeal, she said: “I felt an explosion inside of me, and thought, ‘That’s it, I’m dying.’
“It was terrifying. I could see my life flash before me and knew that if doctors had waited to operate, I wouldn’t make it to the morning.”
However, after getting this far, they decided to give IVF another go.
She said: “I couldn’t bring myself to give it up.
“Without any expectation, I wanted one last shot.”
Announcing the couple’s baby joy on Twitter, Amelia wrote: “After eight challenging years of IVF, we are thrilled to announce that on our last roll of the dice, we got lucky and are expecting a baby girl. Woo hoo! @Matthew_Wright. (sic)”
The former tabloid journalist retweeted the announcement, and added: “Hope you enjoyed today’s show as much as we did making it: ta for all your kind words re @mrsameliawright and pregnancy.
“She’s been thru hell she really has. Feel super blessed to have such lovely followers xx. (sic)”
Prior to sharing their baby news, Matthew, 53, quit his job fronting ‘The Wright Stuff’ – with Jeremy Vine taking over the Channel 5 slot with his own titular current affairs show – after 18 years in the role.
The broadcaster now has his own weekday show on talkRADIO.

Jessica Biel creates activewear for all women

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessica Biel has unveiled her debut activewear collection and she believes she has created a line for all women to “feel good” in.
The 36-year-old actress – who is married to ‘Say Something’ hitmaker Justin Timberlake – has teamed up with yoga, fitness and wellness brand Gaiam for the range.
The collection is part of a multi-deal partnership and features a range of neutral colours and marble prints in leggings, tops, jackets and jumpsuits that will take you from training in the gym and studio, yet is versatile and comfortable enough to wear daily, and Biel admits that was her goal with the garments.
She said: “This is a really authentic partnership for me, yoga and wellness are a huge part of my personal life and have been for a long time. I wanted something that women could feel good in whether they are doing yoga, working out or just running errands, playing with their kids or simply lounging.”
Biel – who has three-year-old son Silas with Justin – made the deal last September to create the capsule collection with Gaiam and Sequential with the goal for her collection to suit women with “busy lifestyles”.

Celine Dion to end Las Vegas residency

OHMYGOSSIP — Celine Dion is ending her Las Vegas residency.
The 50-year-old singer has confirmed rumours she is to bring her concert series at Caesars’ Palace’s Colosseum to a close on June 8, 2019, 17 years after she first began performing regularly in Sin City.
Celine’s final run of shows will kick off on October 30 and she’s feeling “mixed emotions” about ending the current chapter in her career.
She said: “I definitely have mixed emotions about this final run. Las Vegas has become my home and performing at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace has been a big part of my life for the past two decades.
“It’s been an amazing experience and I’m so grateful to all the fans who have come to see us throughout the years. Every show we do at the Colosseum throughout this fall, and right up until the final one, will feel very special.”
The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker – who has performed 1,089 shows since beginning her first residency, ‘A New Day’… in 2003 – has been praised for “changing the landscape of entertainment” in Las Vegas.
John Meglen, co-CEO of Concerts West/AEG Presents, said: “What an extraordinary part of our lives these shows have been.
“Celine took such a leap of faith, made such a big bet on Las Vegas when she decided to perform ‘A New Day…’ all those years ago.
“And look what she’s done … she has changed the landscape of entertainment in Las Vegas. What she started, as a crazy idea that didn’t make sense to a lot of people, has now become the norm.
“Now everyone wants to perform a residency in Las Vegas! All of us have Celine to thank for really making Las Vegas the entertainment capital of the world.”
Tickets for the final shows go on sale on Friday (28.09.18).

Channing Tatum ready to go back to work

OHMYGOSSIP — Channing Tatum is “ready to go back to work”.
The ‘Magic Mike XXL’ star isn’t sure whether he will go back to acting, directing, producing or writing but is keen to head back to work as soon as possible.
He told Variety magazine: “I’m sort of ready to go back to work. I don’t know what I’m ready to go do yet, as far as, is it acting, is it directing, is it producing, writing … Maybe I’ll come and start interviewing people, I don’t know. I have no clue what I’m going to do, but I’m having fun though.”
Meanwhile, Channing previously insisted he doesn’t miss his life as a stripper.
He said: “I don’t miss anything about stripping. I stripped in Tampa for like 25 girls, at best. It wasn’t glamorous whatsoever, so there’s nothing that I miss about stripping. This isn’t stripping. This is a show … People in general are coming [to see ‘Magic Mike’] because they know the movies and they think they’re going to get something like they saw in the last film, and they’re going to get all that. But I think they’re going to get something else. We don’t do live shows. We don’t do that. With this, we didn’t have any rules so we just started creating crazy s**t and no one told us that wasn’t allowed. Vegas is almost like an altar. People come here to release. It’s kind of like church. They release all their worries and get crazy.”
