OHMYGOSSIP — Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Cassie Ventura have reportedly split.
The 48-year-old rapper went public with his relationship with Cassie in 2012 after years of speculation, but it now seems the pair have called it quits as sources say they hope to “remain friends” despite no longer being together.
An insider told People magazine: “The decision was amicable and they remain friends. Cassie is going to focus on her music and acting career.”
Sean – who also answers to Puff Daddy, Puffy, P.Diddy, and most recently Brother Love – met 32-year-old Cassie in the early 2000s when she signed to his Bad Boy Records, and was first romantically linked to her in 2007.
The pair have collaborated a few times together, including on his 2008 tune ‘Swagga Like Puff’ and her 2009 song ‘Must Be Love’.
Meanwhile, the ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ hitmaker revealed earlier this year that he would love to start a family with Cassie and father 10 children, after already having six kids with previous partners.
He said: “I love children. I’m trying to get 10. I could go to eight without a problem. Whatever is supposed to happen in the future is going to happen, but that’s something that I want. I would only have it with my girl of course.”
Sean is already father to Justin, 24, from his relationship with Misa Hylton Brim, Christian, 19, and twins D’Lila and Jessie, 11, with former on/off partner Kim Porter, as well as Chance, also 11, with Sarah Chapman.
Diddy also adopted and raised Quincy, 26, who is Kim Porter’s son from a previous relationship.
And the music mogul couldn’t be happier this his brood, whom he says he’s “very proud” of.
He said: “I’m very, very proud of them. [It’s] incredible [to watch them] grow up and actually be nice human beings. Because you know, it didn’t have to end that way. When you think about a lot of celebrity families, it gets a little weird sometimes.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Morbius’ will start shooting “early next year”.
Producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad have confirmed their next ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off will star Jared Leto as the titular villain and they hope to get filming underway in February.
Asked what their next project will be, Matt confirmed: “‘Morbius’ is the next one…
“The plan is early part of next year. We’re still working on it.”
Avi added: “More or less, February?”
The producers are delighted to have Jared on board for the film because, just like Tom Hardy in ‘Venom’, he’s passionate about the character but can be tricky to fit in new projects.
Avi told Collider: “This is the great thing for us now, that an actor like him, and an actor like Tom wanted to have their own character. But the character they love.
“Both of them, very hard to get them to do a movie. You actually cannot get them. We went in, we sat with them, and everybody told us, ‘Oh, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba.’ Nothing. That’s what he wanted to do. Tom. And Jared, too.
“We went to this place with them, and he just…good actors want to be different than what they are.”
Morbius the Living Vampire first appeared in the comic book series ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ as an antagonist in 1971.
The character started off life as a scientist but his life was turned upside down when he attempted to cure himself of a blood disease with disastrous results, leaving him with vampire fangs and a thirst for blood.
Morbius landed his own series, ‘Morbius, the Living Vampire’, in 1992 until 1995.
The new movie is yet to have a release date pencilled in.

OHMYGOSSIP — Keira Knightley once posed for a picture with a fan – who thought she was Britney Spears.
The 33-year-old actress admitted it was a very “weird” case of mistaken identity but she “quite enjoyed” being recognised as someone completely different.
She told ‘Late Late Show’ host James Corden: “In LA, I was in a shop… it was a weird one… I had my picture as Britney Spears, as well.
“I quite enjoy it. I’m much more polite, I think, when people think I’m somebody else.”
James quipped: “I would love to see that person with their friends.”
But Britney isn’t the only famous person Keira has been mistaken for, though she can understand some of the other comparisons.
She explained: “I’ve been chased through an airport as Natalie Portman. I’ve been chased through a park as Kate Winslet.
“Quite a few people have come over to me to ask me to, ‘Say hello to Daniel Craig’ for them because they think I’m Rachel Weisz…
And… Britney Spears!
“The other ones I get it – English actresses – but [not] Britney Spears!”
Keira is particularly unsurprised to have been mistaken for Natalie Portman “a lot” as she was cast as the ‘Black Swan’ actress’ decoy in ‘Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace’ in 1999 in due to striking similarities.
She confirmed: “I have had many pictures as Natalie Portman.”
While the ‘Colette’ actress doesn’t mind being mistaken for someone else, James insisted he wouldn’t be impressed if it happened to him.
He joked: “If anyone would ever think – not that they ever would – that I was someone else… I would be awful!
“If someone came up and said; ‘Wow, Matt Damon’s put on a few pounds! Will you sign this?’ I would be like, ‘Leave me alone, you ass hole!’ ”

OHMYGOSSIP — Duchess Meghan is “running on adrenaline” but “doing pretty well do far” on her royal tour.
The 37-year-old royal – who announced earlier this week she and her husband Prince Harry are expecting their first baby – had been feeling “a bit tired” but has vowed to continue with all 76 of her engagements of the 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga.
The former ‘Suits’ actress was speaking from Mountain View farm, in Australia, where she and Prince Harry were hosted by the Woodley family, who have been on the land for five generations.
Family member Emily Carroll said: “Meghan told me that she’s feeling pretty good so far, which is great, and that she’s running on adrenaline.
“She said they’re doing 76 engagements in 16 days, with maybe one rest in the middle. She’s made for this royal business, isn’t she?”
And Meghan even gifted her hosts with some hand-baked banana bread as a token of her appreciation
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Emily, 33, said: “She said if you go to someone’s house you always bring something, so she did.
“She said she was worried about the bananas, that she’d put too many bananas in it. But the Duke said there’s never too many bananas.”
The royal couple fawned over the family’s youngest member, 13-month-old Ruby, and the tot’s mother Emily admitted the toddler had missed her nap to spend time with the pair.
She said: “She’s normally in bed at 10.30am but we had to stay up for this. She’s done so well… They’re both great with kids.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Janet Jackson will receive this year’s Global Icon Award at MTV’s European Music Awards.
The 52-year-old singer – who also received the Icon Award at this year’s Billboard Music Awards – will be honoured at the star-studded ceremony on November 4 in Bilbao, Spain, where she will also perform a medley of her greatest songs, including her recent hit ‘Made for Now.’
Bruce Gillmer, global head of music and talent at Viacom and co-brand head of MTV International, said in a statement: “Her incredible artistry has opened doors for countless others while leaving an indelible impact on pop culture – well over three decades and counting.
“We’re thrilled to honor her as this year’s MTV Global Icon.”
The glitzy event will be hosted by Oscar-nominated singer-and-actress Hailee Steinfeld, and the ‘Pitch Perfect’ actress – who is nominated for Best Pop Act – will also perform at the ceremony.
She said: “The EMAs are a show where anything can happen. I can’t wait to host a night filled with incredible artists, performances, some surprises of my own – let’s do this, Bilbao!”
MTV bosses are “thrilled” to have signed up the 21-year-old star because they think her “incredible energy” is just what the show needs.

OHMYGOSSIP — Javier Bardem has hit out at the “public lynching” Woody Allen has received.
The 49-year-old actor insists he would have no hesitation about working with his ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ director – who has been accused of molesting his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven years old – again in the future, unless the “legal situation” regarding the allegations ever changes.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he said at the Lumiere Festival in Lyon, France: “At the time I did ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’, the allegations were already well known for more than 10 years, and two states in the U.S. deemed he was not guilty.
“If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind. But for now I don’t agree with the public lynching that he’s been receiving, and if Woody Allen called me to work with him again I’d be there tomorrow morning. He’s a genius.”
This isn’t the first time the ‘No Country For Old Men’ actor has defended the 83-year-old director.
Speaking after Colin Firth vowed never to work with him again, while
Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Hall pledged to donate their salaries from Allen’s movie ‘A Rainy Day in New York’ to the Time’s Up initiative, Javier admitted he had been “shocked” by Hollywood’s response.
He said: “I am very shocked by this sudden treatment.
“Judgements in the states of New York and Connecticut have cleared him. The legal situation today is the same as in 2007.
“If there was evidence that Woody Allen is guilty, yes, I would stop shooting with him, but I doubt it.”
And Javier – who has children Leo, seven, and Luna, five, with wife Penelope Cruz – isn’t the only star to defend the ‘Annie Hall’ director.
Alec Baldwin has branded his treatment “unfair and sad”, while his former partner Diane Keaton took to Twitter to support her former partner.
She posted in January: “Woody Allen is my friend and I continue to believe him.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood has blamed Katya Jones for “allowing” her kiss with Seann Walsh “to happen”.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge has compared the pro dancer and the contestant’s recently exposed smooch to a “teacher snogging a student”, and believes the 29-year-old performer – married to fellow pro dancer Neil Jones – is more to blame than the 32-year-old star, who has since been dumped by his girlfriend Rebecca Humphries.
Craig said: “I think I would put the ball in Katya’s court, she should not have allowed it to happen. One, she’s married, number two, he was in a relationship that is no longer, I’m talking as Craig Revel Horwood, this is not the view of the BBC, let me say.
“It’s a teacher snogging the student. It’s not the first time in anyone’s life, but these things do happen in real life.”
The pair came under fire from several fans of the Latin and ballroom show who called for them to quit the programme after their kiss was exposed, but Craig believes they were “brave” to remain in the competition.
He said: “I thought they were brave to come back on the show and do their dance of shame, as I put it.
“If you snog someone at the Christmas party that you shouldn’t have, like your boss, if you still want the job you’ve got to turn up on Monday, even if there are imprints on the photocopier or whatever.
“You’ve got to face the music and dance, and they did and I’m glad they did because they are there to be professional.
“Let’s not forget they are being paid to do the job, both of them.”
Craig also hit back at critics of the show who claimed before the latest series had got underway that it would be the “worst year ever”.
Speaking on ‘Loose Women’, he added: “People said it was going to be the worst year ever and it’s turned out to be one of the best, and it’s been in the press a lot recently.”
Seann and Katya both made public apologies after they were pictured snogging during a night out, and claimed the act was a “one-off mistake”, but his girlfriend Rebecca took to Twitter to reveal she had dumped him.
The pair returned to the dancefloor on Saturday night (13.10.18) to perform a Charleston routine and despite being the favourites to leave the competition, they avoided the dreaded dance-off, with Katie Piper departing the series.
Seann is now the 5/1 fourth favourite with bookie William Hill to be eliminated from the show this weekend, behind Ranj Singh (3/1), Kate Silverton (4/1) and Charles Venn (9/2).

OHMYGOSSIP — Shayne Ward has apologised after speaking out over his National Television Awards snub.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star admitted he felt “really hurt” and was “lost for words” after he failed to make the nominations longlist in the Best Serial Drama Performance category after the NTAs nods were announced yesterday (16.10.18) – but the 34-year-old star claims his tweet has been “misconstrued” by some.
Shayne – who also celebrated his birthday yesterday – wrote a statement saying: “I’m sorry if my tweet was misconstrued by some people.
It really wasn’t about me winning an award and being selfish or having an ego.
That ain’t me.
I really thought it was an important issue that I wanted to draw attention too again.
Some times the way we word stuff doesn’t always showcase our true meaning.
So I’m sorry again. Love to you all. x (sic)”
Shayne was disappointed to miss out on a nod for his role as Aidan Connor following a hard-hitting storyline which saw his character take his own life, and his latest message claims he intended to “draw attention” to the “important issue” of male suicide with his original NTAs reaction.
In a tweet last night, which now appears to have been deleted, he wrote: “This was the one I worked hard for.
It’s always a blessing to be put forward for a nomination And Im always humbled. But to have not even been considered for Best Serial Drama Performance for Aidan’s suicide has really hurt me.
“No nod for @RichardHawley1 too Lost for words. (sic)”
He also ‘liked’ some tweets from fans who praised his performance, including one who insisted he deserved some recognition for his portrayal of the storyline.
One fan wrote: “you defo should be at least nominated. My family has lost several members due to suicide. You deserve recognition for making it less taboo to discuss #rewardWardwithNTAaward (sic)”
Another supporter tweeted: “The problem with this whole @shayneTward not being nominated for an NTA for his portrayal of Aidan just shows, to me-a person who battles suicidal thoughts frequently (like today)- that everyone forgets eventually. You’ll always be an after thought. People care, only at the time. (sic)”
Shayne also shared his congratulations to his former ‘Corrie’ co-stars who were nominated for the Serial Drama Performance accolade.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kanye West will work to finish Ty Dolla $ign’s album when he returns from Africa.
The 33-year-old rapper has revealed that the finishing touches of his highly anticipated LP will be completed once the ‘I Love It’ rapper – who is currently working on his own upcoming record ‘Yhandi’ – returns from his trip to Uganda.
In an Instagram live video, he said: “The album is coming; I’m almost done with it now. Just putting the last, final touches on it. Me and Kanye are making it together. They left to Africa though. I’m doing my parts now, then when we get back together, we’ll finish it.”
Kanye, 41, travelled to Uganda to work on his ninth record with his wife Kim Kardashian West, 37, and while he was there the ‘Gold Digger’ hitmaker gifted the President of Uganda a pair of Yeezy sneakers.
The pair met with President Yoweri K. Museveni , on Monday (15.10.18) to discuss “tourism and the arts” and before they ended their brief meeting, they signed a pair of white sneakers for the leader.
The President of Uganda tweeted: “I welcome American entertainment stars Kanye West and @KimKardashian to Uganda. I held fruitful discussions with the duo on how to promote Uganda’s tourism and the arts.
“I thank Kanye for the gift of white sneakers. Enjoy your time in Uganda. It is the true Pearl of Africa (sic)”
Kim and Kanye have travelled with their five-year-old daughter North West but are believed to have left two-year-old Saint and nine-month-old Chicago at home.
The musician Surprised fans when he posted an impromptu performance from Uganda on his Twitter account over the weekend.
The controversial rap star returned to the micro-blogging platform over the weekend and has now posted a lengthy video of himself rapping while wrapped in the Ugandan flag.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonas Blue came close to beating Louis Tomlinson to a place on ‘The X Factor’ panel.
The 29-year-old DJ held secret meetings with show boss Simon Cowell, 59, about being a judge on the show – which is made up of judges Simon, Louis, Robbie Williams, and his wife Ayda Field – but later realised he couldn’t commit due to conflicting schedules.
He is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: “I was asked to audition for the role of judge. I met Simon and was interviewed. I went through the whole process but it didn’t work out because I had too many prior commitments with my DJ-ing.
“All of my DJ shows had been booked about a year in advance and I had to be there for filming days and I couldn’t make it work. It would have been fun.”
The ‘Rise’ hitmaker – whose real name is Guy Robin – has previously spoken of his desire to join the show as a judge, because he believed the programme needed revamping by adding someone who is “at the height of their career”.
He said: “I’d love to get involved. I think it’s a great show. I watch it but I feel as though it does need a current judge on it.
“Someone who is in the music business right now at the height of their career. I think that’s important.”
The record producer already has links to Simon’s label Syco, and is currently executively producing previous ‘X Factor’ contestants Four of Diamonds’ debut album.
He said: “I’ve been working hard with the girls on their album – it’s all separate to what I’m doing now with my record – it’s been a lot of fun.
“I think it’s time for a new girl group to come through. It’s been a bit quiet apart from Little Mix, so the time is right.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith don’t call themselves “married” so they can see themselves without expectations.
The ‘I Am Legend’ star previously admitted the couple refer to themselves as “life partners” and the ‘Bad Moms’ actress has now explained they want to relate to one another “as human beings” rather than being defined as “husband” or “wife”.
She told People magazine: “I needed a different form to dissolve all the expectations that I had of a marriage.
“I needed to do that to see Will outside of husband and see him as a human being.”
“We have all these expectations. ‘Oh, this is what a husband is. This is what a wife is.’ I started dissolving all the ideas and expectations and labels.”
The 47-year-old actress – who has Jaden, 20, and Willow 17, with Will and is also stepmother to his 25-year-old son Trey – has promised to explain more about their relationships when her husband appears on her Facebook Watch show ‘Red Table Talk’ later this month.
She said: “Will comes on the show for two episodes, and we talk about redefining our relationship, going from calling ourselves married to becoming life partners.
“I felt like there was a way to speak about that that was open and transparent. But there are still aspects that are private!”
Jada’s Red Table Talk has revealed a lot of intimate moments about life with her famous family.
In the first episode of the show, Willow even admitted her first introduction to sex was walking in on her parents when she was younger.
She said: “My introduction to sex was obviously walking in on you and Daddy.
“It was in Utah … not Utah. Aspen. I was going downstairs to get some juice and I saw for a little moment and I ran away. I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so crazy. What did I just see?’ The room, it was dark. You know what I’m saying? It was silhouetted.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Meghan Markle baked her own banana bread to take to a family in Australia.
The Duchess of Sussex – who is expecting a baby with her husband Prince Harry – brought the sweet treat with her as she met the Woodley family at Mountain View farm in Dubbo, Australia on Tuesday (16.10.18).
Emily Carroll, who the Duchess met alongside her 13-month-old daughter Ruby, said: “She said if you go to someone’s house you always bring something, so she did. She said she was worried about the bananas, that she’d put too many bananas in it. But the Duke said there’s never too many bananas.”
Meghan had baked the banana bread – which was quickly gobbled up by the guests – in the kitchens at Admiralty House, where she had stayed in Sydney the night before. The couple also brought with them a box of Fortnum & Mason tea, opting for the Royal Blend to match their status.
Meanwhile, during their walk about in Sydney, Meghan met her mini me and Prince Harry was only happy to snap a group photo of the mother-to-be and the little girl Sethunya Gibbons – who was wearing a shirt which read “girls can do anything”.
Someone in the crowd told Meghan they thought the girl looked like her, and she replied: “I was literally about to say the same thing. You remind me so much of myself when I was younger. And I love your shirt.”
And Sethunya spoke of the family’s excitement at meeting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
She told 2dayfm: “When Harry came over to me, he came over first, he said ‘girls can do anything’ because that’s what it says on my shirt. Then he asked me if I wanted to meet his wife so I said ‘yes’ and then he asked me if I wanted him to take a photo of me and Meghan.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Keuning has announced he is releasing his debut solo album early next year.
The 42-year-old musician – who is the lead guitarist of rock band The Killers – will drop ‘Prismism’ on January 25 and the LP is preceded by the single ‘Restless Legs’.
Speaking about the track, he said: “The lyrics speak for themselves. Got restless legs/And a restless heart,’ that’s just what came pouring out of me. It was all I could think of … No other subjects came to mind.
“It was all I had. The beauty of the words is they’re open-ended enough that you can relate them to your own situation.”
The ‘Mr. Brightside’ hitmaker announced last year that he would not tour with The Killers in support of their fifth studio LP ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ so he could take time away from the band in order to be with his family.
However, he will be performing two solo shows in the UK ahead of the release of his album on December 9 at Night and Day in Manchester and on December 10 at Dingwalls in London.
Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer have both stepped away from live shows with The Killers, but despite the pair’s reluctance to tour drummer Ronnie Vannucci and singer Brandon Flowers are both committed to playing concerts.
Vannucci previously said: “I don’t know why I’ve lasted on tour while Dave and Mark haven’t. All four of us have things going on in our lives, and all I can say is being in The Killers is conducive to where I want to be in my life. I feel very fortunate, because being in The Killers is the best job in the world. I’ve made tons of sacrifices, but I’d make any sacrifice to carry on doing this.”
After the duo pulled out of The Killers’ ‘Wonderful Wonderful World Tour’ they were replaced by Jake Blanton and Ted Sablay on stage, with musicians Robbie Connolly and Taylor Milne also added to the band’s touring line-up.

OHMYGOSSIP — Elle King’s “destructive marriage” led to her battling depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse.
The 29-year-old singer was at the “lowest point in her life” while wed to Andrew Ferguson – who she married in February 2016 after a whirlwind romance before separating in May 2017 – and she used drugs and alcohol to “numb the emotions” she was feeling – however eventually realised she needed to “cut all the darkness” from her life.
In an interview with People, Elle said: “I was in a destructive marriage; I was at the lowest point in my life. … I was not well. I couldn’t look people in the eyes. I literally couldn’t leave my house for weeks at a time.
“I was partying so hard to numb emotions that I couldn’t handle at the time. I realised it was just prolonging the inevitable of dealing with them.
“And what you have to do, unfortunately, is just feel them, and that sucks, I thought that by doing drugs it would buy me time to feeling better.
“And when that wasn’t working, I just realised I was in this other cycle, and that I was creating it myself. And I realised I needed to cut all the darkness out of my life.”
In September 2017 the ‘Ex’s and Oh’s’ hitmaker decided she needed to dial back her partying and sought out a PTSD specialist to help her overcome her mental health issues – and the musician thinks that “saved her life”.
She said: “There’s two ways out. You can take the bad way out or you can get help. I got help because I knew that I have felt good in my life and I knew I could get there again.
“If I didn’t get help, I probably wouldn’t be … I don’t know. I don’t wanna think like that.
“I think that reaching out saved my life. I don’t wanna think of any other outcome that could have happened.
“I feel like the more I talk about it, maybe it could reach somebody … reach somebody that feels alone.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel B is being investigated for allegedly hitting a male model.
The ‘America’s Got Talent’ judge was the subject of a complaint from Dujuan Thomas, who visited Los Angeles police on Sunday (14.10.18) to complain the 43-year-old star had hit her in the chest on Saturday (13.10.18) evening after a fashion show.
According to TMZ, Dujuan had walked the runway and Mel was in the audience, and when he ran into her backstage, he asked the former Spice Girls star to take a photo.
Though Mel agreed to his request, she allegedly lashed out after he asked for another picture because he didn’t like the first.
And the model told police he later ran into Mel again at the same hotel, and she allegedly hit him in the chest again when she recognised him.
The website obtained a video of the model following and recording Mel in a hotel corridor as she walked with a group of friends. When they noticed they were being followed, Mel abruptly turned around but the video then stops before any words are exchanged.
Dujuan didn’t need medical attention and hasn’t reported any injuries, but the case is under investigation and will eventually be transferred over to the LA City Attorney, who will decide whether to pursue a prosecution.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed Mel has lost an appeal and will face trial for defamation after being sued by her former nanny, Lorraine Gilles, for allegedly branding her a “homewrecker” and a “prostitute” in court papers relating to her divorce from Stephen Belafonte.
The ‘Say You’ll Be There’ singer had argued to the court that she had no choice but to name Lorraine in order to get a restraining order against Stephen – the father of her youngest daughter, seven-year-old Madison – but the court disagreed and sent the case to trial.
Mel – who also has Phoenix, 19, and Angel, 11, from previous relationships – appealed, but the Court of Appeal agreed with the original ruling.
It is not known when the trial will start, but the first hearing in the matter has been set for 4 February, 2019.
Lorraine, who now works as a waitress, is seeking unspecified damages and is suing for libel, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

OHMYGOSSIP — Neville Staple struggles to sing his famous hit ‘A Message to You, Rudy’ since the death of his grandson.
The former Specials singer was left devastated by the murder of his grandson Fidel Glasgow – the son Staple’s daughter Melanie – who was stabbed in Coventry on a Saturday night on September 1.
The Neville Staple Band performed at Coventry’s Godiva Festival the next day (02.09.18) and as well as giving a warning about knife crime Staple dedicated The Specials’ 1979 hit to his daughter and late grandson.
Staple struggled to finish the track that night and he is still finding it very emotional to perform that song on stage now.
Being interviewed for the seventh episode of online music TV show ‘Red Stripe Presents: This Feeling TV’, he said: “There is [a serious message in the music]. Singing those songs; ‘Message…’, ‘Concrete Jungle’. Once you’re on stage singing it, kind of, what’s happened to me … You do [think about]. But you’ve got to get the music to talk for you as well. Because I’m not a good talker. We won’t get stuck, or too emotional [referring to death of his grandson]. Like on stage, after my grandson died, I was introducing ‘Message….’ and I couldn’t finish it, so my wife, Sugary, had to take over. Because I get very emotional now.”
Next year marks 40 years of 2 Tone music in the UK and Staple and his wife Sugary believe that The Specials’ aim to highlight social deprivation and call for racial harmony have never been more relevant than they are today.
Speaking about the different generations that attend his concerts, Staple, 63, said: “It’s kinda great when we’re doing a festival and stuff and you get the kids singing along and you’re thinking how comes they know that song? But then when you dwell into it, it’s their parents that have been playing these songs and they just grow up liking it, loving it!”
Referring to whether or not 2 Tone can help to bring society together, Sugary added: “Yeah I think so. It’s more of a now or never. As you guys probably know, we’ve gone through a recent tragedy of our own, with knife crime and stuff. It’s this [2 Tone] that has given us strength and the message through the lyrics. We’ve got all the classics, the Specials songs that Neville does, his own songs, some that we’ve done together on the new album, all of that, they all talk about what’s happening around us. Which ska music has always done. You’ve got the fun party sound, everyone jumps and you can’t help but move, but there’s always important words in there.”
