Amandla Stenberg has role responsibility

OHMYGOSSIP — Amandla Stenberg feels a “responsibility” to only take on roles that serve a purpose.
The ‘Hate U Give’ actress wants to use her position for good and to be a positive role model, but she also wants to stay true to herself.
She said: “I feel a responsibility., but these are also the only sorts of roles I’m interested in.
“It’s probably something my mom instilled in me.
“When I was younger, the only roles I would have received would be like, ‘Daughter of a drug user’ or ‘overly sexuallised young black girl’. But she always said, ‘No, we don’t have to touch the roles you don’t want to play.
“I don’t really have interest in stereotypes of myself.
“Or putting myself in a light that robs me of the ability to do more activism.”
While the 20-year-old star believes it’s important to take “moral responsibility” and use her platform for good, she’s understanding of those that don’t follow her lead.
She told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “I think it should be everyone’s moral responsibility and not necessarily postulate it as really radical, because it’s what we should all be doing.
“I have friends who exist within marginalised intersections of identity who have no interest in speaking out. Because they just want the ability to exist. And in many ways, I think that’s enough.”
Amandla hopes ‘The Hate U Give’ helps to humanise the Black Lives Matter movement and wants her character, Starr, to help other young girls “feel validated” in the way she did when she first read Angie Thomas’ novel of the same time.
She said: “I felt like I had never seen anyone else like Starr in a book before. You know, a black girl who is multi-dimensional and nuanced and actually reflective of who we are as black girls and women…
“Hopefully playing [Black Lives Matter] within a personal narrative can help people understand the gravity of the situation. That we are a beautiful community who have experienced a lot.”

Chris Hemsworth: Parenting is hard

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hemsworth didn’t expect parenting to be so “difficult”.
The ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ actor – who has daughter India, six, and four-year-old twin sons Sacha and Tristan with wife Elsa Pataky – has had to change his life to accommodate the needs of his kids, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Asked the biggest challenge he’s faced in his life, he said: “Having children! It’s much more difficult than you think it’s going to be. You have to change your thinking and be completely there for them.
“But they have also taught me what real love is and what true responsibility means.”
While parenting has made Chris less selfish, he doesn’t feel the changes he’s made have been “sacrifices”.
He told Psychologies magazine: “Your life becomes more focused and you don’t have time to get distracted by unimportant things any more.
“You become a lot less selfish and suddenly you’re thinking almost exclusively in terms of creating the best possible life for your wife and children.
“But I don’t feel as though I’m giving up anything or making any sacrifices.
“I had my share of wild times when I was younger and that kind of stuff was never that interesting to me anyway.
“When I met Elsa, I was very comfortable with the idea that she was someone I wanted to share my life with and build something for the future.”
Though the 35-year-old star loves his work, he is also “very conscious” of his family responsibilities and tries to take good breaks between projects in order to be there for them.
He said: “When I was younger, I dreamed about having this kind of life and that’s exactly what I ‘m living now…
“I am more mindful of leaving enough time between projects to be at home with my wife and our children.
“I’m also fortunate that Elsa is totally supportive of me and knows that this is a very important time for me as an actor and understands if I have to go away for three or four months.
“But we also make sure we spend as much time together as possible.
“I am very conscious of my responsibilities as a father and I love my wife and children more than I can possibly describe.”

Jess Glynne doesn’t find love easy

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Glynne finds love “tricky”.
The ‘Hold My Hand’ hitmaker – who is openly bisexual – has been in relationships “for years” and admitted having her heart broken has made her much more cautious when it comes to gettting involved with someone else.
Asked if her past experiences have made her cautious in love, she said: “Yeah, I think it would for anyone. Love is tricky. I couldn’t live without it, but it’s not something I necessarily find easy.”
But Jess is currently single and enjoying being alone, though she is open to a new relationship.
She added: “I’ve been in relationships for years and this is the first time I’ve been single for a little minute. It’s quite nice to have a moment to yourself.
“If something was to come along, I’m never going to turn it away if it feels right, but just now, I’m content.”
The 28-year-old singer admitted being in the public eye has required a lot of adjustment and she feels “pressure” to be at her best at all times.
She said: “I think, entering this world, your life is kind of ripped from you, and it takes a lot of getting used to.
“For me, there’s a pressure to look amazing and happy all of the time. There are times when you’re tired and you’re not in the best mood and have spots on your face.”
But Jess doesn’t believe there should be pressure on women to look “sexy”.
She told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “I think girls feel the need to present themselves in a sexual way. But I also feel it’s nice to make yourself feel good. Girls are sexy human beings, so why not accentuate that? You can do it in a classy way, where you’re not overdoing it.
“But yes, there is definitely a pressure, which I don’t think is OK. If you don’t want to present yourself as a sex symbol, you shouldn’t have to.”

Mike Campbell reflects on Tom Petty’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Petty “couldn’t communicate” in his final days.
The ‘I Won’t Back Down’ hitmaker passed away in October 2017 at the age of 66 from an accidental overdose and his Heartbreakers guitarist, Mike Campbell, is thankful he had been given the opportunity to really “connect” with his friend on their final tour together.
He said: “In the hospital, lying in the bed, I talked to him a little bit.
“He couldn’t communicate, but maybe he heard me, I don’t know.
“It’s hard to put into words but I had an opportunity on the plane a couple of times towards the end of the last tour to connect, to say all the things I really wanted to say to him.
“We were able to touch base, to identify our bond and our friendship in a very powerful way.
“I feel fortunate to have had those moments with him, not knowing what was going to unfold.”
And Mike admitted he was stunned when he received an early morning phone call to say Tom had been rushed to hospital.
He recalled to Uncut magazine: “The last time I saw Tom he looked like an angel. I got the call at four in the morning you always worry when the phone rings in the middle of the night.
“My wife picked it up then said to me, ‘Tom’s in the hospital’. I said, ‘Tom who?’ It didn’t even occur to me it could be him, it must be some other Tom. That’s how shocked I was.
“I knew he had a little pain in his hip, but he hardly ever complained about it on tour.”
And Tom’s death came at a time when he still had a lot of musical goals to achieve.
Mike said: “We were looking forward. We talked a lot about what we were going to do after the tour. We had a lot of plans.”

Carol Vorderman: My 50s have been my best decade

OHMYGOSSIP — Carol Vorderman says her 50s have been the “best decade” of her life.
The 57-year-old TV star – who has kids Cameron, 21, and Katie, 27, with her ex-husband Patrick King – has insisted that being single after the age of 50 needn’t be a barrier to happiness.
She shared: “My 50s has been my best decade.
“A lot of single women in their 50s don’t want to settle down. We’ve brought up children and looked after elderly parents.
“The men we married in our 20s were largely men who wanted to be looked after, that’s specifically men from my generation, so the last thing we want is to be saddled with a bloke to look after!
“It’s like, ‘Hang on! I’ve done so much caring all my life, I just want a little bit of time to do what I want to do. A bit of me time.'”
Carol recently filmed a three-part series called ‘My Single Life’ for ITV’s ‘Lorraine’.
And next week, Carol will serve as Lorraine Kelly’s temporary replacement on the programme.
Looking forward to filling in for the presenter, she said: “It’s going to be an absolute joy. I’m going to have such a laugh.
“Lorraine is always smiling. You know as a viewer that the programme cares about you, it’s never nasty, but it’s entertaining and caring. I’m so looking forward to it.”
Watch ‘Lorraine’ weekdays at 8.30am to 9.25am on ITV, and vote for the show in the Daytime category at this year’s National Television Awards at www.nationaltvawards.com.

Spice Girls’ singing lessons

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel C has ordered the Spice Girls to take singing lessons.
Although Victoria Beckham is not joining the group’s reunion tour, Mel C, Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton are set to land around £12 million each for 13 British shows and Mel has reportedly asked her colleagues to work on their vocals for the gigs.
According to The Sun newspaper, Mel is worried as the group have not sang together in years and believes it is “crucial they take the performance side of the money-spinning return very seriously”.
Mel has also decided to oversee the musical arrangements and is helping the live band to update their classic hits.
It was claimed in June that a deal for a tour had collapsed after Victoria – who was known as Posh Spice – pulled out.
A source said at the time: “The Spice Girls are in disarray. While Victoria has always insisted she’d never tour, the others believed manager Simon Fuller would get her on board.
“They had a £150million proposal in the offing – with a headline performance at Wembley – and even Mel C, who had previously been reluctant, was signed up.
“With things still up in the air, there were a few heated debates between the girls and Victoria.
“Simon [Fuller, former manager] was brought in to convince her to take the offer but now he’s failed they feel he’s used them to put his name back on the map.”
But just a month before, Mel B had revealed the group had signed a comeback contract.
She said: “We are in the process of figuring stuff out, all five of us have signed with Simon Fuller. I don’t know what is going to happen or when but it is all very exciting. There’s going to be a bit of everything.
“If it was up to me we would go on tour immediately. Maybe we will, soon … I’ve always said we’re definitely touring, I think I’ve just been nagging them too much and once I stopped nagging them they all said yes, I just need to shut my mouth.

Norman Cook dating Zoe Ball’s pal

OHMYGOSSIP — Norman Cook is reportedly dating a friend of his ex-wife Zoe Ball.
The DJ – who performs under the stage name Fatboy Slim – is believed to have started dating Nicola Lokko, 41, who used to double date with Norman, 55, Zoe, 47, and her former partner, ‘Harry Potter’ actor Mark Williams.
A source told The Sun: “Norman deserves to be happy, but his choice of partner has upset the apple cart.”
Meanwhile, earlier this year, Norman – who has children Woody and Nelly with Zoe – revealed that he was “still wounded” following his split from Zoe.
Cook said he didn’t feel ready to get back out on the dating scene because he still hadn’t recovered from breaking up with the presenter in September 2016.
He said: “I’m single, I’m definitely not on Tinder. It’s been 18 years since I was in this situation. I’ve forgotten what the rules are. My heart’s not ready. My heart is still wounded to be honest.”
The estranged couple got married in 1999 and briefly split in 2003 when Zoe revealed that she had had an affair with Dan Peppe but their relationship ended for good almost two years ago.
And while Norman had struggled to move on, Zoe found love again with Billy Yates.
The pair dated for a year until Billy was tragically found dead at his home in London following a long-term battle with depression.
Zoe said recently: “He called me and his little face was there and at that moment my heart exploded with so much love and I thought that whatever it is we will get through this because I love him so much. I wish I’d told him that.
“He hopped on his bike and he cycled off and he blew me a kiss goodbye. That was the last time I saw him and I feel really grateful I got my goodbye.
“He was the life and soul of the room and working with him was brilliant. He was so well-read and he had a real scientific mind and I would be lost in the stuff he knew. To do something for him – the beautiful, loving man who’s life ended way too soon – I think it’s a really nice thing.
“I’m going to have to dig deep and it’s going to be emotional. There are times I really can’t believe he’s gone. I knew how much pain he was in but you just want to say, ‘Come on, stay with me and let’s find something positive and get you out of that headspace.’ It was [getting] harder and harder to do that.”

Cate Blanchett defends straight actors playing gay roles

OHMYGOSSIP — Cate Blanchett has defended straight actors playing gay roles.
The 49-year-old actress – who has four children with her husband Andrew Upton – played a lesbian character in Todd Haynes’ ‘Carol’ and believes sexuality should not affect what roles people can take on.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “It speaks to something that I’m quite passionate about in storytelling generally, but in film specifically, is that film can be quite a literal medium.
“And I will fight to the death for the right to suspend disbelief and play roles beyond my experience. I think reality television and all that that entails had an extraordinary impact, a profound impact on the way we view the creation of character.
“I think it provides a lot of opportunity, but the downside of it is that we now, particularly in America, I think, we expect and only expect people to make a profound connection to a character when it’s close to their experience.
“Part of being an actor to me, it’s an anthropological exercise. So you get to examine a timeframe, a set of experiences, an historical event that you didn’t know anything about. But also I’m about to play a character whose political persuasions are entirely different to my own, but part of the pleasure is trying to work out what makes her tick.”
Cate also revealed that it was difficult to get ‘Carol’ made, even when both she and Rooney Mara were attached to star.
She said: “The film, I think now would be made in a heartbeat, but eight years ago, it was a very difficult film to get up.
“Two women, both of whom are of lesbian-ish persuasion in the 1950s, which is like ‘who wants to go and see that? Only 12-year-old boys go to movies.’ Thank goodness we’re changing the demographic of the critics who write for Rotten Tomatoes.
“For me if something is difficult to make, it’s like a red rag to a bull. It makes me want to make it more.”

Madonna shares new song

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna has shared a clip of her new collaboration with Quavo.
The 60-year-old singer has joined forces with the Migos rapper and Cardi B for new song ‘Champagne Rose’ and she took to Instagram to share a snippet with her fans.
In the clip, she sings: “Drink me up Champagne Rosé/It’s my game/Please fill my cup Champagne Rosé/It’s my name.”
Madonna added the caption: “Favorite Drink ……………—- #champagnerose #quavohuncho.”
The track will feature on Quavo’s upcoming album ‘Quavo Huncho’.
Meanwhile, Madonna recently confirmed she is still working on her 14th studio album, which will be her first new record for four years since 2015’s ‘Rebel Heart’, and doesn’t expect the record to drop until 2019.
She said: “I’m finishing my record, which I’m going to release next year.”
Madonna insists she “cannot quit” making music, despite delving further in the fashion of beauty world of late, which has seen her release new skincare lines, as well as perfumes.
She added: “Yep, in between rose mist spray and serums, I’m actually making music. Can’t quit my day job.”
Madonna’s latest claims come just a few months after revealing she would be dropping a new record by the end of 2018, and that her tunes will feature a heavy Portuguese influence after she moved to Lisbon to help son David Banda, 12, pursue his professional football career.
She said: “I’ve just met lots of really amazing musicians, and I’ve ended up working with a lot of these musicians on my new record, so Lisbon has influenced my music and my work.
“How could it not? I don’t see how I could have gone through that year without being informed by all this input of culture.”
The ‘Like a Prayer’ hitmaker added that her new songs “will be collected in an album that will be released by the end of the year”.
In May, lyrics and details of the Queen of Pop’s new tunes were leaked online.
She had recorded a number of tracks at the time, to accompany her first new song in three years, ‘Beautiful Game’ – produced by ‘Die Another Day’ producer Mirwais – which she performed at the Met Gala earlier that month.

Craig Revel Horwood lashes out at Strictly stars

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood has lashed out at his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ colleagues.
The 53-year-old judge reportedly blasted his co-stars on the first night of his book tour in Oxford with Bruno Tonioli, Shirley Ballas and Tess Daly all in the firing line.
According to The Sun, he blasted co-host Tess’ questions as dull, saying: “The book is honest like me but on the telly I wear my judge’s hat. I can’t be myself.
“I like to joke about and do all that stuff. I might raise an eyebrow or two.
“In those ten or 20 seconds where I have to answer Tess’s quite dull questions actually . . . I tend to avoid them and not answer if I’m super honest.”
He also allegedly claimed co-star Shirley’s breasts are fake and is said to have claimed Bruno is stingy with his money.
Craig blasted contestant Seann Walsh and Katya Jones for their kiss – despite Seann having a girlfriend at the time and Katya’s marriage to Neil Jones – but praised ‘Strictly’ for helping some couples find love.
He said: “Katya was in the wrong. I think she should have went: ‘No, no, no. I’m your teacher.’
“Obviously Some relationships blossom. I mean who would have ever thought that anyone would want Kristina Rihanoff? But Ben Cohen did and she had a baby with him so that’s a success story.
“I call it the ‘Strictly’ blessing as if you are there in that sort of parallel world and you are your own person with your own thoughts and intentions that is what is wonderful.”

‘Guardian angel’ Louis Tomlinson saved X Factor contestant

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘X Factor’ contestant Anthony Russell says he would be dead without Louis Tomlinson.
The 28-year-old singer entered the singing competition last year but quit after he confessed to getting hooked on alcohol and drugs and says his “guardian angel” Louis reaching out to him and urging him to get help saved his life.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: “Louis is a godsend, I would be dead now if it was not for him. I think about it every day and pray for the kid every day, I owe him my life.”
Anthony – who was sacked from his job at Network Rail after showing up drunk – admitted his drinking had gotten out of control.
He said: “It got so bad I was drinking every day. I had a decent job on the railway but ruined it all when I turned up drunk and high, off my rocker.
“I’m always going to be a recovering addict. Since rehab Louis has called me. He proper cares. I need to make him proud.”
Meanwhile, Brendan Murray, 21 – who is also in Louis’ Boys category – has heaped praised on his mentor and says he knows exactly what the contestants are going through since he competed on the show himself in 2010 with One Direction.
He explained: “He’s been great. He’s been in the house everyday this week, it’s been amazing. He really does care about all four of us. He was in this position eight years ago so he knows how we’re feeling.
“I’m excited! At the moment I’m stuck on a song choice as I really want to make a good impression and I think it’s really important! I want to get it right in the first week!
“I’m still on a high from Judges houses, but I’m just looking forward to performing and singing every weekend. The competition is getting better every day at the moment so it’s going to be interesting!”
Armstrong Martins, 23, and Dalton Andre Harris, 24, complete Louis’ category.

Rami Malek ‘is sensational’ in Bohemian Rhapsody

OHMYGOSSIP — Rami Malek is “absolutely sensational” in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, according to cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel.
The 37-year-old actor stars as Freddie Mercury in the biographical drama and Newton has hailed his performance in the new movie.
He said: “I think the movie is fabulous. It is a real celebration of Queen and their music and Freddie Mercury’s genius.
“And I think it’s both truthful and celebratory at the same time, which is a rare and wonderful combination, especially in a period of history that’s not necessarily the most peaceful and tranquil.
“I think Rami Malek is absolutely sensational. At this point, I can’t actually imagine the movie or Freddie being played by anybody else. He so thoroughly inhabits the character, and it’s really breathtaking.”
Despite this, Newton still found Rami to be “terrifically easy” to work with.
Speaking about the actor – who also stars in the popular TV drama series ‘Mr. Robot’ – Newton told Collider: “Rami goes very deep into the character, but he’s very accessible, still, as an actor, when you are working with him on set. So he’s actually quite easy to work with as a performer. And he’s very savvy technically.
“I think that enables him to move in and out of character in a way that actually makes my job very easy. He’s terrifically easy actor to work with.”

Natasha Richardson’s son takes her surname

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson’s son has taken his mother’s surname.
Micheál Richardson was just 13 years old when his mother died following a skiing accident in 2009 and now the aspiring actor has officially adopted Natasha’s surname.
Natasha’s mother Vanessa Redgrave told the Daily Mail: “He’s taken, officially, the name of his mother. He’s Micheál Richardson, not Micheál Neeson.
“That wasn’t because he wanted to avoid his father’s fame, which is enormous. He wanted to hold his mother close to him — because she was a remarkable actress. Absolutely remarkable.
“Our quaint customs dictate we have to have a male name. I don’t object. Why not? It’s as good as any.”
Meanwhile, Liam previously admitted he tried to talk Micheál out of acting as he wanted to shield him from rejection.
Liam said: “I tried to talk him out of it. The profession is all about rejection, you know? You go out for this part and you’re rejected, and you’re not rejected because of your education, you’re rejected because of this. The space you occupy. You’re too tall. You’re too Irish. Your nose is too broken. You’re too this, you’re too that. So it’s – you want to save your kids from all that, you know?”
Although the ‘Taken’ star wasn’t keen on Micheál’s career choice at first, the pair recently worked together on thriller movie ‘Hard Powder’, and Liam admits it was “nice” to act alongside his son.
He added: “We did a film called ‘Hard Powder’. It’s a thriller. It’s got a dark comedic bend to it, as well. He plays my son, and he’s, it was good to act with [him]! We had two or three little scenes together and it was nice.”

Bruce Dern rushed to hospital after fall

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Dern was rushed to hospital following a fall while out jogging.
The 82-year-old actor was taken to hospital after the accident on Friday (19.10.18) and released a few hours later, his spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
No other news on his condition was released, although sources claimed he could have suffered a broken hip.
A source told PEOPLE: “He’s an avid jogger. He jogs every single day and this was likely a fall while jogging.
“[The injury] is probably a broken hip. He’s in incredibly good spirits.”
Bruce recently completed filming on Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’, replacing the late Burt Reynolds after he passed away last month.
Bruce reunited with his ‘Hateful Eight’ director for the movie, taking on the role of blind rancher George Spahn in the upcoming film.
Burt hadn’t shot any scenes for the project – which focuses on Charles Manson and his followers’ murder of actress Sharon Tate – when he passed away.
And his niece, Nancy Lee Brown Hess, admitted after his death he had been looking forward to working with Tarantino and fellow actors Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Al Pacino and Kurt Russell on the movie.
She said in a statement: “My uncle was looking forward to working with Quentin Tarantino (in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’) and the amazing cast that was assembled.”
Bruce previously worked with Burt on a number of different projects, including 1965 TV series ’12 O’Clock High’ and 2003 movie ‘Hard Ground’, which was directed by the late actor.
The new film tells the story of actor Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt), who are trying to make it big in Hollywood.
Dalton lived next door to Sharon Tate (Robbie), who was one of five people murdered by the infamous Manson Family cult in August 1969.
Speaking about the movie, Tarantino recently said: “It takes place during the 1969 Hollywood era at the height of the counterculture explosion, at the time of the hippie revolution.
“During the summer, little by little, block by block, we’ll be transforming Los Angeles in the psychedelic Hollywood of 1969.”
The movie is set for release on August 9, 2019, the 50th anniversary of the Manson Family committing the LaBianca murders.

Zara Larsson worries new single with encourage toxic relationships

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara Larsson doesn’t want her new single to encourage bad relationships.
The 20-year-old singer has returned with her latest track ‘Ruin My Life’ – based on wanting to go back to an unhealthy romance and has opened up about her own toxic relationship – but fears that young women may get the wrong message from her lyrics.
In an interview with Pop Justice, she said: “I can’t lie: I’ve been there when you’re coming out of a bad relationship and you just know this person is really bad for you, but you can’t help wanting to go back.
You’re like: “I know he’ll ruin my life, he’ll break my heart and I won’t be able to eat or sleep for three months, but I WANT IT NOW.
“I think everyone’s been there. Or after two drinks you can’t stop yourself sending the texts. But… I also argue against myself when it comes to songs. I’m very careful with things I say.
And I don’t want people – young girls and women – to listen to the song and… Like, I don’t want to be a girl who promotes bad relationships. ‘Just go back to him, it’ll be fine’. I don’t want to do that. But I do also want to be an artist who can express something I’m feeling or that I’ve been through.”
The ‘Lush Life’ hitmaker admitted that the new song was originally meant to be a duet; however, Zara wanted the first single on her new album to be a solo track.
She said: “I got the song sent to me – I wasn’t in the room when it was written – and I really liked it, but it was originally thought of as a duet.
“I love to collaborate with people but I just didn’t want it to be a duet. I wanted the first single from my new record to be just me.”
