Egos blamed for Fifth Harmony split

OHMYGOSSIP — Egos have been blamed for the Fifth Harmony split.
Camila Cabello left the group last month and Jenny McCarthy – who is married to New Kids On The Block star Donnie Wahlberg – believes they will reunite in the future.
She told Billboard: “I have a feeling they will be back. Every group takes a little bit of a break.
“Egos kind of get in the way; everyone wants a say on their own creativity; and they need to break out and do their thing. Then they come back [when] they see ‘I need to get paid.'”
Meanwhile, it was recently claimed that Camila left Fifth Harmony because the remaining members – Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, and Dinah Jane – were jealous of her.
A source said: “This all [stems from] the girls’ jealousy. You’ve read this story a million times.”
It has also been reported that the feelings of jealousy between band members – who were put together by US talent competition ‘The X Factor’ in 2012 – have been evident since Demi Lovato named Camila as the one person who shone within the group.
Demi – who was a judge on the show at the time – said to the girls after a performance of Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’: “The thing is I know you guys have potential because I saw your performance at the judges’ homes, and that’s when you guys really shined.
“But tonight I feel like there was only one person that shined, and it really didn’t click for me tonight … right now there’s only one person doing it for me.”
After being pressed to name the member by host Khloé Kardashian, Demi eventually singled out Camila.
Despite leaving the group, Camila previously insisted she wished “nothing but the best” for the ‘Work From Home’ hitmakers.
She wrote in a lengthy note posted on Instagram: “As sad as it is to see this chapter ending this way, I will continue to root them all on as individuals and as a group. I wish nothing but the best for them, all the success in the world and true happiness. Just as I said to them during those conversations, and just like I try to encourage you guys, I want to lead by example when I say to each of you guys to be courageous in the pursuit of what makes your heart pound and what makes you come alive with purpose.”

Ed Sheeran teases new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is to release a new song on Friday (06.01.17).
The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ hitmaker took to his social media sites on Sunday (01.01.17) to share the announcement with his six million followers.
In the short clip, he held up a piece of paper with the writing: “New Music Coming Friday!! (sic)”, and he also captioned the video: “Hello 2017… (sic)”
It comes after the 25-year-old singer/songwriter changed his profile pictures to a shade of blue on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook on December 13, exactly a year after he went on hiatus, leaving fans guessing he is about to announce a new record.
Meanwhile, the flame-haired hunk will reportedly make one of his musical dreams come true when he tops the bill at the world-famous Glastonbury festival in Worthy Farm, Somerset, South West England in June.
And Ed’s signing has delighted the event’s organisers, Michael and Emily Eavis.
A source previously told The Sun newspaper: “Michael is delighted to get Ed signed up.
“It’s going to be a huge moment for the festival having him up there marking his comeback in front of a giant crowd.
“Ed’s always said headlining Glastonbury has been a big ambition of his.
“Topping his three sold-out Wembley Stadium shows last year will be tough, but this is as big as it gets.”
Ed will join previously-confirmed headliners Radiohead at the event, while Foo Fighters – who were forced to pull out of the 2015 festival after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg – are expected to be the final headliners.
And he is also rumoured to be performing at the Grammys held in Los Angeles in February.
A source added to the publication: “Ed became one of the world’s most in-demand musicians with his last album and the Grammys is the perfect place to make his return.
“Millions will be tuning in for his performance and he is planning to pull out all of the stops to really wow everyone.”
The ‘I See Fire’ singer’s last studio album was 2014’s ‘X’.

The 27-year-old star – whose last record was 2015’s ‘Everything is 4’ – is preparing for the release of his fifth album this year, which he has been working on at his home, and he has promised fans a number of exciting collaborations.
He told Billboard: “I’ve been recording at my house this time. And it’s just been a much more comfortable experience. And I’m excited to share with you all my ups, my downs, my highs and my lows. Also, got to work with a lot of amazing artists. 2017 is ours, Derulo Family.
“I’m looking forward to a fresh start [in 2017]. So much negativity in the world in 2016. We can start fresh putting love first. We can’t let our nation be run by racism, greed and abhorrence.”
However, Jason revealed he also plans to take some time for himself in 2017, following his split from Daphne Joy in August after six months of dating.
He said: “Life is short, so I want to experience as much as I can before my day and share those moments with the people I love.”
Meanwhile, it is likely that one of the collaborators on Jason’s new album could be Scottish DJ Calvin Harris as he previously revealed the pair were keen to work on music together once they can find some time in their busy schedules.
Jason said: “We’ve been in contact and Calvin and I are interested in working together for sure.
“But it’s just finding the right time and right song, we both have busy schedules, but I hope so.”
The pair were introduced by their mutual friend, DJ Hardwell, who has previously worked with both artists on separate occasions.
Jason said: “Hardwell and I did ‘Follow Me’ and I love the whole EDM vibe.”

Mel B and Professor Green releasing new music?

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel B and Professor Green are planning on releasing music together.
The 41-year-old Spice Girls singer is gearing up to reunite with her former bandmates Geri Horner and Emma Bunton – after Mel C and Victoria Beckham refused to rejoin the group in time for their anniversary reunion – but the star already planning her next venture with rap artist Professor Green.
The pair worked together on the set of UK television show ‘Lip Sync Battle UK’, and now have plans to start making music together.
Mel told The Sun newspaper: “We have spoken about working on some music together and it’s something we are going to work out.
“It would be pretty cool. I nag him all the time, I’m like, ‘Let’s do a song together’. And he’s like, ‘All right’. I keep on getting at him.”
Whilst Green, 33, added: “I’m gonna go and write something for us. We’re gonna find a day where we’re not doing ‘Lip Sync’.”
For Mel, the track would mark her first new release since 2013’s ‘For Once In My Life’, and she is even planning on flying the rapper out to meet her in LA for the special recording session.
She told the publication: “I have a studio in my house in LA so he’s going to come over there. We’ll write it together.”
Meanwhile Mel previously claimed the addition of Mel C and Victoria to the reunion line up – which sees them perform a proposed concert and potentially release new music to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their debut single ‘Wannabe’ and first album ‘Spice’ – was still “up in the air”, and hoped they would eventually be on board.
She said: “Who said they’re not going to possibly be involved? Until it actually gets going, everything’s a bit up in the air.
“Until we’ve got something to announce, it’s the same old, same old. We are looking to do something, it’s just a case of when.”

Sophie Ellis-Bextor's stressful record

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Ellis-Bextor found recording her new album “stressful”.
The 37-year-old singer – who has sons Sonny, 12, Kit, seven, Ray, four, and Jesse, 11 months, with husband Richard Jones – spent just 11 days in the studio working on ‘Familia’, and she admits making the LP with her youngest son in tow, while also looking after her band and caring for her family meant it wasn’t the easiest of experiences.
She said: “It was bonkers because we did that and I also had my baby in the studio, who was 13-14 weeks old at the time, and I cooked for the band every night so it was quite stressful.”
The album is a direct follow-up to her 2014 record ‘Wanderlust’ – which she worked on with musician and producer Ed Harcourt – as it also features songs based on the same witch character she had created for that LP.
Sophie explained: “When I started making ‘Wanderlust’, it gave me ability to write in a different kind of way, so the first song that Ed and I wrote was called ‘Love is a Camera’ and it’s about a witch and when she takes your photo she steals your soul and she lives in a spooky house on a hill and it was a lovely departure.
“So when we did ‘Familia’ we revisited her so this is the same character carrying on from the last album, she has been driven mad by all the souls that she has stolen. Writing about characters is like a brilliant spring board and inspiration.”
Away from her own work, the ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ hitmaker loves to discover new artists.
She said: “I love the War on Drugs album, I’ve listened to that loads. A band called C Duncan, who I saw at Glastonbury, I think that album was really lovely (sic)”.

Original Beatles manager dead at 86

OHMYGOSSIP — Allan Williams, the original manager of The Beatles, has died.
The 86-year-old original owner of Liverpool’s Jacaranda Club, where The Beatles played a number of their first gigs, has passed away at the age of 86.
A message on the club’s Twitter account read: “Today our founder and the man who discovered the Beatles passed away. Allan Williams, you will be missed.”
And a post on the club’s Facebook page added: “Today is one of the saddest days in our history.
“The Jacaranda’s original owner and the man who discovered The Beatles, Allan Williams, has sadly passed away at the age of 86. All of our thoughts and wishes go to his family and his wife Beryl.
“His legacy has allowed us to remain at the heart of the Liverpool music scene for almost 60 years and his memory will live on through every band that plays our famous stage.
“Allan, you will be missed.”
Allan worked with original members of The Beatles – Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison and John Lennon, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe – from 1960 to 1961.
Speaking in 2010, he said: “I was just glad to have been there in the 60s, at the start of it all.
“I’ve always been proud of The Beatles and proud and happy to have been just a small cog in the wheel of the most famous group in the world.
“A lot of people have told me ‘I would have loved to have been there’ and it was a lot of fun – but we didn’t know we were making history.
“It was such a good time, though, and I’ve got no regrets – they were exciting days. But no-one knew The Beatles would go on to achieve what they did.”

Pearl Jam's former drummer hits out

OHMYGOSSIP — Pearl Jam’s former drummer is still furious that he was not part of their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017 induction.
David Abbruzzese played with the ‘Better Man’ hitmakers from 1991 to 1994 until he was reportedly fired for disagreements with other band members, and he has blasted them for not taking a stand to support him.
He wrote on his Facebook page: “Pearl Jam has always seemingly had a perceived level of integrity and has been known to stand their ground & fight the good fight, but it seems the allure of being given this trophy is just too important for them to take a stand.
“I want to let you all know that ultimately, it’s gonna be okay.
“We still have the music and no amount of corporate conglomerate or ticky-tack b******t can keep us from enjoying the power of the music we love. The fact that we find ourselves fighting for the integrity of the validity of a segment of Pearl Jam history to be acknowledged is straight up beautiful. The reason we have to is what the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is supposed to have been built to celebrate; The love of the music.
“I have always thought that every award given to a band that celebrates the bands lifetime achievements should be awarded to every person that was ever a debt incurring, life sacrificing, blood spilling, member of that band. Maybe the Hall should reevaluate the need to put all the monkeys in the same cage in order to boost revenue, and instead let the history of the band be fully and completely represented as they were and as they are. …leave it up to the group to show their true colors as they celebrate their own history in a manner of their choosing.
“I don’t know. But whoever is ultimately responsible for the decision that deemed my work with Pearl Jam as an effort that was not important enough to grant me induction knows nothing of what we accomplished, and I am personally at a loss for words for how Stone, Mike, Jeff, Matt, Edward and Kelly Curtis are accepting of such an injustice.
“I am still proud to be a part of what Pearl Jam was. My point in all of this is to share the fact that what Pearl Jam once was, is what is still, and will always be Pearl Jam.
“I know things are tough. We need music, each other and the spirit of Rock & Roll now, more than ever before.
“Thanks for everything, everyone. I for one have not and will not ever forget the incredible power of the times we shared together (sic).”
The rules have changed for year’s nominations in that only certain individual members of each band will be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
For Eddie Vedder’s group, that means their current drummer Matt Cameron and first stickman Dave Krusen are listed, despite them having five drummers in the past including David.
During his time with the band, Pearl Jam released their second and third studio albums, ‘Vs.’ and ‘Vitalogy’.
As well as David, their former drummers Matt Chamberlin, who David replaced, and Jack Irons were not included in the Hall of Fame nominations profile either.

Sir Ray Davies honoured with knighthood

OHMYGOSSIP — The Kinks’ Sir Ray Davies has been honoured with a knighthood in the New Year Honours List.
The 72-year-old frontman has received the recognition for his services to music from Queen Elizabeth II, 12 years after he originally received a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2004.
Speaking about the honour, the ‘Lola’ hitmaker said in a statement: “Initially I felt a mixture of surprise, humility, joy and a bit embarrassed but after thinking about it, I accept this for my family and fans as well as everyone who has inspired me to write.”
Other stars also receiving honours included a damehood for Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour – who has been editing the US edition of the fashion magazine for 30 years – as well as a knighthood for comedian Sir Ken Dodd, for his services to entertainment and charity.
Ken said of the knighthood: “I’m very proud and I’d like to thank all the people who wished it for me because they’re the ones that made it (happen), so thank you very much.”
Asked if the honour was overdue, he added: “Oh no – my library books are, but this came as a complete surprise and it’s a wonderful feeling.”
For the ‘You Really Got Me’ musician, the knighthood comes after Ray expressed a wish to work with his brother and bandmate Dave, 69, again, despite years of feuding and he hopes the band can reunite at Glastonbury festival.
Ray said: “Dave and I will definitely work together again. And we want to play live.
“Maybe The Kinks could play Glastonbury?”

Steps to release new album in 2017

OHMYGOSSIP — Steps will release a new album in 2017.
The band – comprised of Claire Richards, Ian ‘H’ Watkins, Lee Latchford Evans, Lisa Scott Lee and Faye Tozer – are reuniting for a New Year’s Eve (31.12.16) gig at London’s G-A-Y club and will follow it up with new music in 2017.
A source told The Sun: “This reunion has been in planning for a long time with various ideas thrown about.
“But the one thing everyone could agree on was it’s time for Steps to release new music and inject some fun back into the scene.
“Obviously the band have all matured in the two decades since they found fame, and so has their music.
“But diehard fans won’t be disappointed – especially not when they’ll still be wheeling out their cheesy hits on stage.”
Steps split in 2001 and had a brief reunion in 2011.
Announcing their split in a statement, they said: “After five incredible years, we have decided it’s time to move on to new challenges.
“We have always said that when the time came, we would leave as good friends and go out while we were on top, as although we are very sad, that’s what we have done.
“We are looking forward to making our next plans but for now we just want to send our heartfelt thanks and love to all the people who have supported us – you truly are the best fans in the world.”
However, it was soon revealed that Ian and Claire had quit the band to start a career as a duo and admitted that it had led to problems with the other three.
Claire said previously: “We had our reasons for leaving and most of the stuff said about us is wrong.
“At some point you’ve got to say to yourself, ‘It doesn’t matter how much money I earn this year, I’m miserable’.”
Ian added: “We could have sold millions more albums, but it wasn’t worth it… there was no point in flogging a dead horse.”

Dan Auerbach to release second studio LP

OHMYGOSSIP — The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach is releasing a new solo album in 2017.
The 37-year-old guitarist-and-producer has teamed up with an array of rock legends including Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler for the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Keep It Hid’.
The record, which is yet to be named, is to also include a tribute to legendary producer Rick Rubin – who is famed for his work with the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Green Day and Johnny Cash – and has been recorded at his very own East Eye Studio along with a whole host of rock musicians.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine about the forthcoming record, which is still pending a final track-list, he said: “These guys tell me they’re genuinely thrilled to be here because we’re making records like they used to. I learned so much from these guys.”
The Black Keys have been on an extended hiatus for over two years now and as a band they haven’t put out anything since their biggest-selling album, 2014’s ‘Turn Blue’.
Auerbach says it has been hard to turn down paid projects, but insists the rock duo – which also includes drummer Patrick Carney – needed some time away to refuel.
He told the publication: “It’s hard to turn away money, but you have to recharge.
And asked whether he plans on touring his solo album, he didn’t say no.
He added: “How can you not?”
Aside from The Black Keys, Auerbach has his side project The Arcs, who dropped debut LP ‘Yours, Dreamily’ in September 2015, and he most recently recorded the track ‘Standing In The Rain’ for 2016 super-villain movie ‘Suicide Squad’.
His second solo release is expected to drop in spring 2017.

SiriusXM to launch George Michael channel

OHMYGOSSIP — A George Michael tribute channel is coming to SiriusXM.
The satellite radio station will dedicate one channel to the late star – who passed away suddenly from heart failure over Christmas – for a week in early January, in order to celebrate his life and music.
The channel, which will be called ‘Faith’, will feature his entire body of work, including his Wham! and solo hits and will run from January 4 to January 11.
It can be accessed via SiriusXM channel 13, online and through the SiriusXM app.
Meanwhile, George was supposedly planning a comeback next year with a new album and documentary about his time in Wham! but those closest to him said he was plagued with worry that his vocals wouldn’t be up to scratch anymore.
A source explained: “George was such a perfectionist and had seriously high standards when it came to music. His vocal ability was legendary in music circles but given increasing health issues, he knew hitting those levels would be tough.
“George had to be 100 per cent fit and firing if he was to return to the studio and sadly that was so far off. His friends knew this day (the day he died) would be coming but perhaps not as early as it eventually arrived.”
The ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker was initially planning to shake the music world last month with his new album ‘Listen Without Prejudice 25’ but his comeback was delayed until March next year because he was busy putting the “finishing touches” on his tell-all film about his time in Wham! called ‘Freedom’ and he wanted the releases to coincide.

Flume: I felt like a child meeting Beck

OHMYGOSSIP — Flume felt like “a kid” when he met Beck for the first time.
The 25-year-old musician admitted it was “surreal” coming face-to-face with the 46-year-old ‘Yellow Gold’ hitmaker – who he is a huge fan of – and he felt dwarfed in the star’s presence, though it didn’t help that he was dressed in “pink shorts and a cap”.
Fume – real name Harley Edward Streten – said: “One day I got a call from my manager and he was like, ‘Hey, do you want to go to Beck’s house today?’ I caught an Uber to his house and I knocked on the door, and there he is, it’s Beck, welcoming me into his house.
He continued: “It was kind of surreal, to be honest. I was wearing pink board shorts and a backpack and a cap, and I realized I looked like some kind of kid, just walking into this legend’s house, but he was really down to earth.”
Flume and Beck collaborated on the dreamy track ‘Tiny Cities’ for the Australian singer’s second album ‘Skins’ released earlier this year.
And though he acknowledged it was a huge step to get to work with the Grammy Award winner, the outcome of their music was more important to him than notoriety.
The Australian star added to the Chicago Tribune: “For me it’s about the music. I think the music I make has a unique style, and that’s my brand. I actually try to keep my face off a lot of things, like album covers. I would never have my face on an album cover. For me, it’s all about the sonic identity.”

Ed Sheeran to perform at Grammys

OHMYGOSSIP — Ed Sheeran is set to make his comeback at the Grammy Awards.
The 25-year-old singer took a break from the music scene in 2016 but is set to return to the spotlight at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles in February.
A source told The Sun: “Ed became one of the world’s most in-demand musicians with his last album and the Grammys is the perfect place to make his return.
“Millions will be tuning in for his performance and he is planning to pull out all of the stops to really wow everyone.”
And the Grammys will just be the start of Ed’s comeback as the star is set for a busy 2017, which will include headlining Glastonbury.
The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ hitmaker will reportedly make one of his musical dreams come true when he tops the bill at the world-famous musical festival in Worthy Farm, Somerset, next June.
And Ed’s signing has delighted the event’s organisers, Michael and Emily Eavis.

George Michael 'had three albums' worth of unreleased songs

OHMYGOSSIP — George Michael had three albums of previously unheard music.
The ‘Careless Whisperer’ hitmaker – who tragically died aged 53 at his home in Goring-On-Thames, Oxfordshire, on Sunday (25.12.16) – wrote a trio of records comprised of ‘Trojan Souls’, ‘White Light’ and a third unnamed dance LP, which was scrapped by his estranged record label, Sony, in the early 1990s.
On Wednesday (28.12.16), George’s boyfriend Fadi Fawaz shared a link to one of the shelved tracks that featured on ‘Trojan Horse’ entitled ‘This Kind of Love’.
The 43-year-old heartbroken lover of the music legend tweeted: “My Baby (sic)” alongside a link to a page containing the track and other music from George.
However, the singer’s former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley blasted Fadi’s actions and said that he had no right to share the music without George’s consent.
Andrew tweeted: “GM controlled all his output. I, nor anyone else have the right to transgress that principle.”
‘This Kind of Love’ was produced by Sir Elton John in 1991 and includes the lyrics: ‘Now everyone has to get over I know, but this empty house seems to get colder and colder. So won’t you stay here with me? Now that I found you. I can’t let you go.
“Don’t have to be so scared, don’t have to hide what you can, you just have to believe in this kind of love.
“Everybody’s telling me that these are dangerous times. For you and me, can’t you see baby?”
It’s believed George put aside his unreleased work because he recorded many versions of the songs but was never entirely happy with the results.
A source told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “George was a talented and brilliant musician but he could be obstinate and difficult because he was such a perfectionist.”

The xx felt 'pressure' recording 2012's Coexist

OHMYGOSSIP — The xx felt “pressure” recording their second album ‘Coexist’.
The ‘Crystalised’ hitmakers – comprised of Jamie Smith, Romy Madley Croft, and Oliver Sim – have opened up about their writing processes as they gear up to release their untitled third album, saying they were determined to get out of their comfort zone this time around as they overanalysed the process for their 2012 venture.
Oliver admitted: “There was so much pressure from ourselves about: What do people like about us? What makes us sound like us? What do we need to hang onto?
“When we’re thinking like that, at our worst, we can end up sounding a bit like a parody of ourselves.”
And 26-year-old Oliver also admits that a large part of the pressure came from his own struggles with alcoholism, and “fighting the idea of being an adult”, but says he’s now been alcohol-free for over a year.
He added: “I was going out a lot with the excuse that I was celebrating – ‘celebrating’ -the past few years.
“Just fighting the idea of becoming an adult. Some friends had started to mellow a bit, and I didn’t want to …
“And with alcohol, like a lot of things, it’s all or nothing for me. So right now it’s just nothing.”
Oliver says he feels “happier” without alcohol, but doesn’t know how to “celebrate and let go” once the band’s new album comes out.
He told Pitchfork magazine: “The times when I actually do have, like, a successful conversation, I feel really good about it and it stays with me as opposed to… kind of not remembering.
“While I’m struggling more now, I am actually happier.
“One thing I can’t wrap my head around, to be honest, which makes me a bit sad, is: How do I celebrate and let go a bit? Which I’m still figuring out. I’ve got lots of help.”

Selena Gomez working with Paulina Rubio

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez has collaborated with Paulina Rubio.
The 24-year-old singer will appear on the 45-year-old singer’s upcoming album, which features a variety of genres.
Paulina told Vanidades magazine: “My new album is like another member of the team, or the family. It will be a true warrior, has something from all genres, from band to pop, collaborations of DJ Snake and Selena Gomez. I tried to keep a key element: That the music is danceable.”
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Selena is working on her own music again after songwriter Justin Tranter – who collaborated with the singer on eight songs on her ‘Revival’ album – posted a candid picture of her in a recording studio.
Captioning the image of Selena putting on mascara, he simply wrote: “Music and love.”
It comes after the singer made an emotional acceptance speech at the American Music Awards in November after taking some time off after suffering “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” because of her lupus condition.
Speaking on stage, she said: “I think it’s safe to say most of you know my life whether I liked it or not. And I had to stop, because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside, and I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down. I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here. I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore …
“All I can say from the bottom of my heart is I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with people that I love, and I have to say thank you so much to my fans, because you guys are so damn loyal, and I don’t know what I did to deserve you. But if you are broken, you do not have to stay broken. That’s one thing you should know about me: I care about people. And this is for you.”
