George Michael tribute show in doubt

OHMYGOSSIP — Plans for a George Michael tribute concert have been thrown into doubt because his family haven’t approved the show.
The late singer’s friend, Dame Esther Rantzen, had hoped to organise a musical performance in honour of the ‘Careless Whisper’ hitmaker – who was found dead on Christmas Day (26.12.16) last year – in order to raise money for charity, and will meet with his loved ones later this week in order to ask for the go-ahead.
However, insiders think there is only a “50/50” chance they will say yes.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “The most important thing about organising this is that the family approve of everything.
“Esther and the organisers didn’t want to jump the gun and start making arrangements before they had spoken with them.
“At the moment there is a big possibility it won’t happen because the family aren’t on board. The meeting will either make or break plans.”
Esther – who founded Childline, a charity George previously gave £2 million to from royalties from his single ‘Jesus To A Child’ – had hoped to stage the concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October.
She previously said: “It is still on the cards and we are still hoping it will happen, but we haven’t approached his family yet – we don’t want to be insensitive and we have been waiting for the right time.
“He was so extraordinary in his generosity to Childline – he absolutely got our vision – and we would love to be able to pay tribute to him in our 30th year.
“The idea we have at the moment is for the group of charities he supported to join together for the concert. That’s our hope.
“It would be a tremendous way of fundraising in his memory.”
A spokesperson for George confirmed there have been approaches about a possible tribute but insisted nothing has yet been given the go-ahead.
They said: “We have been approached but nothing’s been decided.”

Kendrick Lamar to release more music

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendrick Lamar has some more music coming out.
The chart-topping rap star only dropped his third album ‘Damn’ – the follow-up to 2015’s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ – last week but it doesn’t look like he’s planning to take a break any time soon as he has let slip that he’s got more content on the way.
The 29-year-old hunk let the cat out of the bag while he was talking to a fan at an in-store signing at Best Buy in Compton on Friday (21.04.17) afternoon.
He said: “I got more music. Ya hear what I’m saying.”
‘Damn’, which features 14 songs including ‘Loyalty’ with Rihanna and ‘XXX’ with U2′, was only dropped a few days ago but it’s already received rave reviews from fans.
Kendrick recently revealed the record centres on the idea of learning to accept situations he may not necessarily like, such as when a father has to watch his daughter date a boy for the first time.
Using the concept of parenthood to explain his thinking, he said previously: “One day, I may have a little girl … She’s gonna grow up. She’s gonna be a child I adore, I’m gonna always love her, but she’s gonna reach that one point where she’s gonna start experiencing things. And she’s gonna say things or do things that you may not condone, but it’s the reality of it and you know she was always gonna get to that place. And it’s disturbing.
“But you have to accept it. You have to accept it and you have to have your own solutions to figure out how to handle the action and take action for it.”

The Courteeners' daily rows

OHMYGOSSIP — The Courteeners argue every day.
The group members – Liam Fray, Daniel ‘Conan’ Moores and Michael Campbell – met when they were 10 years old and formed a band while still at school, but their familiarity means they constantly squabble about trivial matters.
Singer Liam admitted: “Me and Conan fight every day. It might just be a glare, I’ll have done something wrong, y’know, like used the last teabag or left the milk out.
“Does it get physical? No, no. But when we were in school together we’d fight all the time. Who won? Always him.”
Despite performing in front of huge crowds, Liam admits he is actually very “shy” and feels uncomfortable in social situations.
He said: “I get embarrassed all the time, I’m really bad at social situations – being around somebody’s house or even with my family.
“I can’t fully relax and I retreat a bit because I get embarrassed by the smallest things.
“Ironically, I’m very, very shy. It’s crazy, I get anxious about loads of stuff apart from standing on stage with a guitar around my neck in front of loads of people.”
The ‘Not Nineteen Forever’ singer always takes the time to reflect on how grateful he is for the success he’s had at the end of every day, but also needs his wind-down time to make a thorough list for what he needs to do the following morning.
Asked the last thing he does every day, he told Q magazine: “I know it sounds a bit cheesy but ever since I’ve been little, maybe because I went to a Catholic school, I’ll sit down and think how grateful I am for all this.
“But also, I’m a big list writer so I’ll write things down like, ‘8 o’clock – shower, 8.15 – coffee’. Like I’d forget to make a f**ing coffee. But if it’s on the list, I’d have to do it.
“So it’s great when you’ve had a few drinks and you wake up in the morning and you’re like, ‘What the f**k does that say?”

Sean Paul wows fans at London gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Sean Paul urged his fans to sing along with him during his gig in London on Friday (21.04.17) because he wasn’t feeling “100 per cent”.
The 44-year-old rapper wowed the crowd at the O2 Forum Kentish Town with a 90-minute set, although he admitted his voice “ain’t feeling it” and called on the audience to help him get through the show.
Speaking on stage, the musician said: “I don’t know if you realise I’m not 100 per cent tonight my voice ain’t feeling it. I want you to sing along with me.”
The Jamaican artist took to the stage to perform his 2002 hit record ‘Get Busy’, as well as ‘Give It Up To Me’ and ‘Like Glue’.
He also performed songs he has collaborated on with other artists including, ‘Got 2 Luv U’, which he joined forces with Alexis Jordan on in 2012, as well as the Beyoncé duet ‘Baby Boy’.
During his show, Sean thanked his supporters for remaining devoted to him throughout his career.
He said: “Thank you very much every day you’ve got down with Sean Paul.”
Sean continued to belt out his more recent hits including his collaboration with Sia titled ‘Cheap Thrills’ and he delighted the crowd with his own rendition of Ed Sheeran’s 2017 comeback single ‘Shape of You’.
Prior to his cover version he said: “I think it’s time to free it up. We like to freestyle.”
Sean went on to sing ‘Luv’, ‘No Lie’, ‘Punkie’ and ‘Tek Weh Yuh Heart’ before returning to his 2002 hit ‘I’m Still In Love with you’ featuring Sasha.
The vocalist praised his mother Frances and revealed he has “the deepest feeling of love” for his parent, before he sang ‘Rockabye’, which he partnered with blonde-beauty Anne-Marie on.
He said: “The deepest feeling of love I have in my life is the feeling I have for my mummy.”
Sean continued his set by singing ‘Crick Neck’, ‘Gimme The Light’ and his 2005 hit record ‘We Be Burnin’, as well as ‘Trumpets’ and his new 2017 record ‘Phone Flash’.
Before introducing ‘She Doesn’t Mind’, the star joked his manager was desperate to get him off of the stage, saying: “Ladies and gentlemen I’ve got a stage manager backstage and she said I’ve passed my time and I’ve got to go to the next city. Oh no. She said she doesn’t mind.”
Sean’s set came to a close with ‘Temperature’ before he thanked the audience for belting out his songs with him and he also praised their “good” taste in music.
He said: “Thank you for singing along with me tonight. Y’all like good music.”

Steps to 'pay homage' to videos on tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Steps are going to be paying “homage” to their videos when they go on tour.
The reunited group – comprised of Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer, Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans and Ian ‘H’ Watkins – are heading out on an arena tour of the UK this November and December and have promised their fans they can expect all the old hits and some special recreations of their memorable pop promos.
Some of Steps’ most famous videos include ‘5,6,7,8’ in which the gang are seen on the beach in yellow bikinis and swimwear, ‘Deeper Shade of Blue’ which saw the five guys don shiny blue pleather flight attendant costumes and ‘Tragedy’ which had the three girls dressed in bridal gowns at a mock wedding.
Discussing their 20th anniversary concerts in an interview on ‘This Morning’ on Friday (21.04.17), H said: “We always wanted to celebrate in some way. We were talking about a one-off gig at the Royal Albert Hall but now it’s turned into a tour at 22 arenas, a single, album and a tidal wave of love … We’re gonna give everybody what they want and we’re going to ask everybody for their ideas, tweet us, Facebook us and we’re going to pay homage to our old videos.”
Insisting they will be giving their fans all the hits, Claire added: “As a fan of music who goes to see concerts, I come away a bit disappointed if the act you’ve been to see doesn’t do all the songs that you love. We totally get that and we’re going to embrace it, it’s just choosing which ones we’re going to do.”
Faye admits the hardest task face the group is deciding which hits will have to be omitted from their setlist, but they may try and do all of their singles as medleys.
She teased: “We’ve got so many hits we’re so lucky to have had so many singles out there that for us it’s about trying to choose the ones were not going to add in actually. It’s really difficult, we’ve discussed about doing some medleys, but we’re definitely going to pay homage to some of our old videos which is going to be exciting.”
Steps are celebrating after learning their new album ‘Tears on the Dancefloor’ has rocketed to number one and Lisa admits the reaction to the LP has been overwhelming.
Lisa said: “We had a WhatsApp group and for two years we planned everything all in private, we went to the studio and recorded in secret. It’s just so exciting now, the album has gone to number one and I’m just overwhelmed.”
Lee added: “Someone tweeted it, I don’t know if it’s true, but someone said it went to number one in an hour.”

Kiefer Sutherland joins Glastonbury line-up

OHMYGOSSIP — Kiefer Sutherland is playing Glastonbury’s Field of Avalon stage.
The ‘Lost Boys’ actor and country musician joins the bill along with Busted, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Birdy and Scouting for Girls, who will perform at the iconic festival held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England between June 21 and 25.
A poster of the line-up was posted on the official Glastonbury Twitter account on Friday morning (21.04.17), along with the caption: “The @FieldofAvalon line-up for #Glastonbury2017 has just been announced – and it’s a cracker! (sic)”
The 50-year-old Canadian star released his only album ‘Down In A Hole’ in 2016.
Meanwhile, the event’s organiser Emily Eavis recently teased there will be several “secret sets” this year.
There are plans to celebrate 10 years of The Park stage, which has seen the likes of Guy Garvey, Ryan Adams and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man perform on in the past, with special and extremely confidential performances planned.
Emily – who manages the acts playing with her father Michael Eavis – spilled: “It’s 10 years of The Park, so there’s gonna be some stuff out there. I guess there’s a few artists who come and get a feel for it, who are going to try and doing something a bit off the beaten track. There will be a couple of those appearances, but I can’t give too much away on that side.”
With rumours still swirling about who could be set to perform this year, Emily insisted that many of them are “ludicrous” and suggested they still haven’t decided on who could bet set to storm the stage.
Pressed for who could be set to surprise festival-goers, she said: “Well, it could be anyone, couldn’t it? The rumours are ridiculous here. I think it’s something to do with all being fenced in and away, away from the outside world for five days. So anything’s possible.
“Any ideas about what’s happening in the outside world are so ludicrous and so all these rumours circulate. I don’t know what they could be this year, who knows?”
Headlining are Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters and Radiohead.
They’ll be joined by Katy Perry, Stormzy, Bee Gees legend Barry Gibb, The xx, Royal Blood, Biffy Clyro, The National, Chic, Major Lazer, Lorde, The Jacksons, The Flaming Lips, Emeli Sande, Halsey, George Ezra and Kaiser Chiefs and many more.

Gem Archer joins Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds?

OHMYGOSSIP — Former Oasis guitarist Gem Archer has joined Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, according to the band’s Wikipedia page.
The 50-year-old musician – who joined the ‘Supersonic’ rockers in 2000 after original guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs’ quit – is listed as the touring group’s rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist on the site with Tim Smith now listed as an ex-member, departing in 2017.
The move could anger Liam Gallagher, who formed Beady Eye with Gem and fellow ex-Oasis members Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock after Noel quit the group in August 2009 following a huge backstage bust-up with his younger brother.
Beady Eye eventually disbanded in October 2014 after releasing two albums, ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’ and ‘BE’.
As well as playing guitar in Oasis Gem also contributed several songs, including ‘Hung in a Bad Place’ from 2002 album ‘Heathen Chemistry’, which was the first track not penned by a Gallagher brother to feature on one of the group’s LPs.
Gem last performed with Noel in December 2015 at the Royal Albert Hall in London when he joined him for a special acoustic set of Oasis B-sides and re-worked classics, such as ‘Listen Up’, ‘Sad Song’, ‘Slide Away’ and ‘Wonderwall’ ahead of Noel’s performance with his full band.
That gig was preceded by a show at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln, East Midlands, in front of an intimate audience of just 200 fans.
The Lincoln show marked the first time that Noel and Gem had teamed up since they joined forces for Noel’s Teenage Cancer Trust show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in March 2010.
Although he quit Oasis, Noel remained friends with Gem and after the demise of Beady Eye he urged his brother Liam, 44, to keep working with the six-string strummer.
The ‘You Know We Can’t Go Back’ songwriter said: “If I was giving him (Liam) any advice, I think he should stick with Gem as his wingman, because they were great mates and Gem really understood him.”
Liam is currently preparing for the release of his debut solo LP ‘As You Were’ and has been busy in rehearsals ahead of his tour.
The rock ‘n’ roll star has also been pinching band members as he has swiped Pete Doherty’s bassist Drew McConnell for his shows.
Pete, 38, recently said: “Stressification on the band front, Drew playing bass guitar for Liam Gallagher’s new tour. (sic)”
The pair – who have been at loggerheads for years – have another person in common as they both have children by 90s indie rocker Lisa Moorish.

Royal Blood were hospitalised following debut LP

OHMYGOSSIP — Royal Blood were “hospitalised twice” after the release of their debut album for exhaustion.
The rock duo – comprised of Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher – have revealed they were forced to take a break after an extensive amount of touring and promotion of their critically-acclaimed 2014 self-titled record because of how intense it got.
Plus the ‘Figure It Out’ hitmakers’ sound engineer even lost his testicle on the road, though the pair didn’t say how.
Mike said: “We didn’t get any sleep.
“We all ended up ill and
we all got hospitalised twice. Our sound guy lost a testicle …
Ben said: “He’s alive and well. We won’t go to into it.”
Mike added: “What I will say is that he had it surgically removed and that night mixed the show. Drugged out. And
I don’t think it ever sounded so good.”
And, although they were running out of energy, Mike says they never felt depressed and even if they had felt like giving up on the band, they’d have left knowing they’d given it their all.
He explained: “The work and the schedule was insane, but there really wasn’t a low moment.
“We thought, ‘This doesn’t happen to any band ever, so let’s just enjoy it.’ If it ends tomorrow, at least we can look back on it and be like, ‘Well, we took everything we could have possibly squeezed out of this.'”
The end of the tour in October 2015 felt like the end of a chapter for Mike, as he recalled destroying his bass guitar by bashing it on a door as a symbol of the record cycle and supporting shows being done and dusted.
Mike told the latest issue of NME magazine: “Afterwards, I remember just slamming my bass into the door and it splitting into 10 pieces. It felt like the end of that album. We were ready to close that chapter. I genuinely didn’t smash my bass in a ‘this will be cool’ way; it was more like, ‘I need to destroy this machine and start again.'”
Now they are gearing up for the release of their sophomore effort, ‘How Did We Get So Dark?’, which has been inspired by R&B more than rock music as the pair admit they are more into Drake, Usher and Kelly Rowland than their peers.
Mike said: “I don’t really like a lot of rock music.
I mean, obviously I love a lot of it, but the tour bus is pretty spicy isn’t it? It’s pretty R&B-heavy. There’s a lot of things where you’d be like, ‘What the f***? You like that?'”
Ben added “Got a bit of Usher going on.
“The parties on the bus get wild. We’re all dancing to ‘Work’ by Kelly Rowland by the end of the night. I love Drake and all that lot. In their shows and their production, you can really get something out of it and put it into your own interpretation and music.”

Kasabian's album cured Tom Meighan's heartbreak

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Meighan says Kasabian’s new album made him “better” following his split from his girlfriend.
The 36-year-old rocker went through a sticky patch in 2016, when he suffered a secret meltdown and separated from his long-term partner Kim James, but he says ‘For Crying Out Loud’ allowed him to put the “s*** year” into perspective and he’s feeling much more positive about the future now.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, Tom – who has a four-year-old daughter called Mimi Malone with his ex-girlfriend – admitted: “I had a s*** year.
But sometimes s*** happens in life. You have to face the devil.
“It was just a moment in life and I’ll look at it and think, ‘Yes, that was s***’. But I’ve turned the corner. Now things couldn’t be better.”
On how the group – also comprised of Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews – are “stronger than ever” and how the record has made him feel rejuvenated, he continued: “No need to go into details but today I feel so alive.
“I’ve got my blue eyes back and I had red eyes for a bit. And I really think I’m better because of this album.
“We’ve had ups and down and s*** thrown at us before but you deal with it and personally, I’m back stronger than ever.”
The ‘You’re In Love With A Psycho’ singer says the group have become a solid family and are at their “very best”.
He added: “People forget we’ve been together since being boys. All of us have been through a lot. We’ve grown up together, we’ve got kids, we’re a family.
“And this album marks us being stronger than ever and at our very best.”

Celine Dion likens Labrinth to Denzel Washington

OHMYGOSSIP — Celine Dion says Labrinth reminds her of Denzel Washington.
The 49-year-old star is a self-confessed fan of the London-born rapper, and has claimed she can see similarities between Labrinth and the Academy Award-winning actor.
She said: “Labrinth, I mean it’s Denzel Washington. It’s like this guy does nothing and it’s like he doesn’t have to do anything. He’s an actor, he’s creative. I want Labrinth to write me songs.”
Celine also revealed she is a fan of Lady Gaga, saying the chart-topping star is impressively “convincing” when she sings.
She told The Sun newspaper: “There are a lot of singers I like but I’m enjoying Lady Gaga, her voice and all that. Her vocal and her presentation and the way that she sings, ‘Lord, show me the way’, (in ‘Million Reasons’). When she sings, she is so convincing.”
In addition to Gaga, Celine also admires Adele and revealed she would jump at the chance to work with her.
The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker said, in reference to Adele’s hit single ‘Hello’: “I was wondering if you could sing a song with me. Anywhere, any time … I saw her, I know her, I met her. I’m a big fan.”
In fact, Celine revealed she loves listening to some of the biggest pop stars in the world today, including Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran.
The music icon said: “Pretty much every night, my most favourite thing is to take my laptop and hook it to my speaker and scroll down to Lady Gaga to Adele to Sia to Justin Bieber to Ariana Grande to Ed Sheeran.”

Bono: I've learned how to sing recently

OHMYGOSSIP — Bono believes he’s “learned how to sing” in recent years.
The 56-year-old is known for providing the vocals for the rock band U2, but has said despite his voice being heard by millions, he only believes he found his hidden singing ability when the band started to rehearse for the 30th anniversary of their hit album ‘The Joshua Tree’.
He said: “I used to write songs that I couldn’t sing. And sometimes that was okay, because the straining for the note I couldn’t reach was part of the drama, but occasionally they would just like wreck the next show so I just left ‘Red Hill Mining Town’ off. But since then, I sing a bit better believe it or not, or at least I’ve learned how to sing. I was more of a shouter, coming from the punk rock tradition.”
And speaking specifically about ‘Red Hill Mining Town’ – which features on the album and is set to receive a special release for Record Store Day on Saturday (22.04.17) – Bono admits he originally hoped Joe Cocker would provide the vocals.
He added: “In my head, I always hoped that Joe Cocker would sing it. And in my head I was trying to pretend to be Joe Cocker but he has plenty of songs of his own.”
Meanwhile, the ‘With or Without You’ hitmaker admitted he felt “overpowered” when he sang the songs from ‘The Joshua Tree’ during rehearsals, as he was surprised at how “relevant” the tracks are 30 years on.
Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Chris Evans Breakfast Show’, he said: “The band love to rehearse, I’m not very good at rehearsing. I went in the other day and sang ‘The Joshua Tree’ for the very first time in 30 years and it was an overpowering experience, actually. I was really surprised at how the song sounded, how relevant with what’s going on in the world, there seemed to be a connection.”

Stormzy doesn't get the 'elite force in British music'

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy doesn’t understand why there is an “elite force in British music”.
The ‘Big Up Your Boots’ hitmaker has opened up about how black musicians are treated in the industry and how having his songs in the UK charts is breaking “the walls down” for grime and rap stars, who have struggled to get their songs on the radio in the past.
Speaking to the latest issue of The FADER magazine for their Diaspora Issue, he admitted: “I’ve never understood this whole thing of there being this elite force in British music, but on the side is grime and rap. There’s at least five or six artists in that elite of American music. Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, Kanye West and Jay Z will be there. In this country, it’s not like that. I just question s***. I ask, Why can’t I get played on that radio station? ‘Oh, they can only play it in the evening.’ But there’s a clean version, why can’t they do daytime? They might say something about the tempo of the song, or the feel of the song. So when I’m getting in the charts, it’s [so I can] break all the walls down, and say, ‘OK, what are you gonna say now? Why can’t you play me?'”
The 23-year-old rapper is determined to be the voice of this generation of black celebrities as he admits there aren’t enough of them, and he is not afraid to call out anyone who is treating others badly because of their race.
He explained: “A lot of places, I may be one of the few minorities in the building, or on the panel, or on the stage. I’m gonna be facing a lot more of these situations. In this country, there are not enough black actors or musicians. So when someone gets there, you’ve got to be the voice that calls out the bull***.”
